[Music] I'm Yuri I'm job and we're going for a [Music] drive the allnew 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road without launch control he shift before red line on its own it's pretty okay it's [Music] [Applause] okay horsepower and torque 278 horsepower 37 lb feet of torque from a 2.4 L 4cylinder turbo I think I'd rather have the six-cylinder is that what yri you speaking or is that what the audience is speaking uh just generalize it just just try to move the conversation okay so we've previously driven the Canyon which the Colorado also has the new four-cylinder turbo I'm going to say it right away I think we both prefer that powertrain over this one they're both four-cylinder turbos but that one just felt better torque here and this comes stock with the four-cylinder turbo no six-cylinder option and there will be a 4-cylinder hybrid option which boosts the power even more yeah so this is the I force we're going to get the I force Max coming later with the TRD Pro as well and then you can also get this car in a manual transmission but this is the automatic version you know whatever this is a pre-production model we're very happy to get what we can that's right and we've been pretty spoiled driving TRD Pros basically all of our life uh thank you Toyota for that so this is our first TRD off-road so Yuri what do we get with the off-road multi-link rear suspension stock yeah so all the new Tacomas get uh multi-link rear this one gets billstein shocks now they are external reservoirs which Toyota is very proud of however unfortunately in our testing right now they're quite stiff bumpy as heck my wife would be very mad at me if this was our family car yeah and I previously complained about the multimatic dampers in the uh Canyon being a little bit too stiff and even in everything else that we've tested these are stiffer than that well by the way did you say everything comes with multi-link rear suspension I did you're get a leaf spring can't you uh in America not in Canada okay that's like Sr SR5 yes yeah with a color match cladding too yeah yeah we don't get that in Canada all right driving half on the dirt Yuri test o stiff not as not as comfortable as the other one that we drove no exactly but like still pretty good on gravel like not as bad not not that bad no and then driving it through field it was okay yeah I guess that's what it's for TRD off-road is for like slum off-roading then TRD Pro is for more off-roading and then there's uh TRD like Trail killer or something coming out Trail killer uh Trail Hunter uh there's like a pre-runner version anyway there's I think 21 different models of this car that you can get in the states there are less in Canada thankfully cuz 21 is way too many yeah it's kind of like ordering a Bronco it's it's kind of ridiculous but okay before we go on to this stuff you know me I like talk about the looks of it could we talk about how it looks compared to the previous gen I think it looks awesome they didn't screw anything up no I think they absolutely killed it this thing looks fantastic I am in love with the way this looks for a midsize truck I think their marketing was tacom and then also badass badassness badassness they want make look badass I mean it does look cool it's like it's got uh body lines that like really blend with each other like they did say in marketing but it does it all kind of like swoops in together looks really cool I mean there's like an orange color which looks better for the TRD off-road and then TRD looks cool the uh Trail Hunter looks I think even better and then the SR SR5 just looks like normal work truck yeah but this one overall does look really really good I like the front end not too crazy we have our lower air dam removed because they all come with that which is removable for aerodynamics I like I like the way that looks yeah but you can't take this thing off road with that I Stu off road anyways and then we got cool headlights cool tail lights uh also cheesy tail lights that look like they are put on in the aftermarket yeah so below the tailgate there's a brake light that is also a turn signal that looks like it's you know kind of like yeah it looks like it's kind of from eBay Little Part Source yeah I don't know shout out Ebay I like it and then like the Body Lines everything looks like everything just looks good I like how the fenders fender flares aren't color matched on this version yeah and I love how everything is like really chiseled out the way that the bed kind of comes in and cuts in at the bottom it makes it look really aggressive I like those little dams at the front in the bumper uh the bed is got like a weird liner it's not like a rugged liner no it's I don't I don't know how much I trust that for Stuff very smooth yeah but like I guess this isn't like the most expensive at all no we are driving essentially the base TRD off-road there are TRD off-road versions above this like a premium in Canada and what Toyota did which was really cool with this generation is they kind of gave it a little spoiler at the back of the cab and it looks it makes all the difference for the overall side profile yeah and then it's cool that the cab can come in like a twodo version as well with like storage at the back at launch it's only this yeah at launch saying in general the info is out there yes and then we have the six- foot bed and then as you move up through the grades you get like a 5ft bed and stuff and since there's so many different variations you probably want to get yours before someone else gets yours go to tsp. truecar.com to find your perfect Tacoma discounted price offers okay so overall looks wise do you like the look of this more than the GMC version the Chevy version or even like a Ford anger uh I think I like this looks wise the most but very close tied to the Colorado yeah I think this is the best looking like I'm not crazy about Toyota trucks or or Tacomas at all like I I don't fully understand the hype but I do think it looks cool and like it a solid step yeah I think all the new Toyota stuff that they're coming out with looks great did absolutely nothing wrong looks wise and even these wheels look sick they're like TRD Wheels I don't know if there's TRD off-road wheels or they're different but of course they are e the TRD Pro getes real Pro Wheels this is the TRD amateur they they look sick yeah they do and what would be the Continental recommended tire for any Tacoma the terrain contact at hope you guys all have your winter tires on yes absolutely or your at tires and go Offroad and before you drive I just want to point out how cool it us that they made blue panels on the interior okay that is totally unexpected really cool totally unexpected super super super cool like why are people so against colors and this is like an unoffensive like Satin Color like compared to like fake car fiber or fake wood or whatever Yuri I don't see an ounce of gloss black in here not one not one ounce nothing holy Toyota hey pre-production materials may not be final fit and finished in their discussion of the finer points of plastic my old chaps forgot to take a listen to the [Music] outside not bad for a four popper Cheerio before I launch it the most important part of this all new model seating position they have raised the seat and it's no longer uncomfortable my knees are not in my chest I'm going to break boost it now just okay but that's cuz traction's off hang on hang on let's try it again traction fully off brake boost traction off got a little bit of tire sque back there but that was better way better yeah it's just before Red Line yeah well [Applause] whatever I'm just saying we don't have paddles um so this power trrain isn't the greatest but it's also not the worst it is definitely an improvement over the V6 in terms of power it's got like uh I think 52 more torqu than the last one so that is quite a bit same horsepower which is kind of interesting it's nice it is better than the last one I will say that I I got the car this morning after driving in rush hour traffic which was the biggest nightmare ever I don't do that anymore and just zoned out I didn't even floor once it was just like Pleasant powertrain and then we've got an 8-speed automatic no CVT nonsense in here and it does feel pretty good do we even enough paddles no we've got sport s on the uh the sh up and down oh that that's close enough yeah and back that seating position it is nice I did still bang my knee when getting in on like this part right here because my seat is closer and then uh first thing you got in you're like oh let me adjust the steering wheel to where I like it you is already at the full like it doesn't go high enough but there's enough Gap to go higher yeah so I actually don't hit my knees where Yuri does I hit my knees on the steering wheel because I can't raise the steering wheel high enough which is a weird problem to have for me okay speaking of uh sitting down do you fit in the back behind yourself not at all I I actually fit 5'8 like really great behind myself everywhere so not for tall people if you're tall get a tundra yeah or even the the canyon I feel like had more room than this in the back do you feel like if you're born tall everything costs $30,000 more when you get older no at least cars though right like your car choices are severely limited by your height they're not limited I just deal with everything but back to that engine so it sounds a little bit coarse from the outside it almost sounds like a like a turbo [Applause] [Music] diesel like you can hear a little bit of spool you hear like cl cl clack like a little bit yeah it doesn't sound uh as gas as I thought it' sound no it's it's not that refined however what is cool is you can actually hear the turbo from inside like a little bit of spool and a little bit of blowoff here and there kind of cool I like that there's no pumped in or fake stuff no like nothing at all so I'm going to FLIR now it's it's definitely decent power that extra torque really helps and I'm sure the I force Max will actually probably be perfect and better than the canyon cuz there is no version that is higher in the canyon can a hybrid really be better than a gas even though it has more power power it can the brake pedal going to do like just move out of your way when you try to stop it like brake pedals are weird these days the second I see an orange cable I P yeah there are no orange cables in this engine bay the next thing I want to talk about is how big the steering wheel is I think it's too no it is too big for this interior to the point that I feel like it's almost like a tundra steering wheel in here and it kind of takes up a lot of room in here I feel like a slightly smaller steering wheel would have been the choice in here don't you feel like like the cabin was roomier in the canyon and exactly it's I think it's like things like that steering wheel and certain sizes of like the grips and stuff like I think it just kind of gives you the sense of the cabin being small knees are like this close to every single thing I would love I mean that's normal for me I know I would love to see you get in an accident and like and then like inspect your knees after yeah just paint me like those uh those whatever Mar tummies yeah yeah we're going to cover your knees and pink paint and we'll see how much ends up on the uh on the thing yeah but overall I do really like driving this thing um I don't think I love driving it as much as that Canyon 100% yeah and this is not even the top trip we didn't we didn't drive the Colorado or whatever so like we don't know exactly we have to keep keep saying Canyon cuz yeah I know the price is different yes that the Canyon's the luxury version okay back to steering wheel you like the buttons no no piano black there either no they work buttons I've gotten totally used to Toyota's new system of controlling the gauge cluster the digital system is actually really good and then in the gauge cluster that's where your settings are for all your uh like a safety stuff and this is all the new safety stuff like the other cars that we've driven recently from Toyota and it does have adaptive cruise Lane centering but I swear to God in like driving on the highway for 40 minutes I had to tug the wheel like 30 40 times because even with your hands there it'll still tell you to put your hand there and it like my wife would also kill me for that like why is it beeping why is it beeping they just need to turn down the sensitivity a little bit and then you can use these buttons to control the gauge cluster modes which there are several different digital layouts and they all are pretty cool Standard current Toyota stuff yes they even have a Mode called tough but sport is pretty cool it's like gears yeah I feel like I'm in an LFA you actually see a red line that you can't hit yeah that's right and then uh we also have physical controls for our climate down here we've got heated seats which is amazing the seats get real high you're only on one I'm on three and my butthole is on fire and then we don't have a heated steering wheel but I'm sure you get one in a higher trim okay can I talk about this thing yes smaller infotainment than the bigger one which I actually like the size cuz I can reach easier to get every everywhere only has a volume knob and it's a small tiny volume knob like in a c across where I think the upper TRD trims have like big volume knob in the middle they made this infotainment like without the bar sticking on the left which we always talk about like to get from carplay to Ser X7 whatever they've they've Toyota has convinced me I'm just living in carplay yeah that's what I've been doing got the serus XM app I don't even use serus XM through the car anymore yeah they they got me and then this being the lower trim we don't have the cool new 360 cameras the higher resolution or anything like that but we have a backup camera very clear unbelievably clear which G me high hopes for the 360 camera stuff in the future stuff and it is a wireless only carplay but we got this tray right here so I think this will be a actual wireless charger that the phone seems to kind of stay in place and then we got this big old shifter which I really like uh we've got our four low four high and two high the but the button for that is very cool whoever designed that you got you deserve a raise and then we've got this drive mode dial which controls a your drive modes your tow Hall modes your DAC crawl and your MTS all your off-road stuff so when you click those buttons that dial then controls everything within those modes shout out cool animation team yes the tow Hall is my favorite one and then we've got a locking rear diff and blank buttons next to it and some of those blank buttons do some cool stuff in the upper trims like you can disconnect your stabilizer bars I think that comes on the TRD Pro and then I think it's an option on this one by the way you know it's a nice option what's that the lumbar in the driver seat yeah it does exist forward and back not up and down but like still pretty all right and this being a TRD we also have skid plates under the truck so you can take this thing Offroad and the best for last Yuri cliche corner with full traction off in rear wheeel drive mode which you had to come to a stop to do yeah uh let's see okay it's it's fine actually the multi-link is pretty good yeah this is pretty good for a truck can you can you skid it out a little I'm sure I can yeah watch this hey and that's like open differential mode nothing crazy yeah it would be fun in Winter yeah so I mean this handle's pretty good I think it'll be a pretty good daily driver other than the stiff suspension yeah which would make it Pap like on the 407 the rich people Highway it was like bumpy yeah okay uh other cool stuff lots of room right here we got cup holders that'll definitely fit pretty much absolutely anything and more cup holders back here and let's check the visors three two 1 yes Full Pass thank you Toyota and in front of our visor we also have what looks like a dealer installed dash camera which is very very nice sorry I said Toyotas which triggered the infotainment and a few more truck bed things we actually have like proper AC power back there which is nice nice and then we have USBC back there as well too which is like interesting that's cool you can charge your cell phone back there without having a whole brick you know what would be the most malicious thing ever [Music] what why would you suggest that who thinks of that stuff I'm just saying you you know what else I thought of is you know [Music] how what do you think of this stuff I'm just like my head is like what could go wrong if I do this something wrong with your head yeah um how about Towing Towing 6,500 lb which is pretty good for a size of this truck like it's not a massive truck that's more Towing then you get out of like a unibody truck like a ridgel line or something yeah yeah that's trck which is why people want actual truck truck yes or like a Maverick yeah yeah Maverick is Maverick's more of a Civic than a origal I think and the last thing that I want to touch on are these interior materials and overall look still very plasticky very Toyota more rubber though look feel that yeah like it it is better than the last one but if you threw me in here without knowing what the last one looked like be like okay I guess it looks kind of newish the design the shapes the colors I think the blue makes it if it was not blue yeah then it wouldn't be as cool but you know what would really help this interior I know instead of tuxmat go to tuxmat dcom thest stray pipes to see what they have for your car they do not have mats for this truck at this time but I'm sure they will in the near future I'm sure you don't have this truck either at the time that you're watching this when it came out all right so if I did want to get the truck how much would it cost hit me with it this one TRD off-road trim starts at $50,605 1800 American buckaroos buaro or the highest price for the TRD off-road is 58350 Canadian or 43,4 us awesome so would you recommend this right now or waiting for a TRD Pro TRD Trail hunter or some other like cool variation of something that will exist later H I don't want to be that guy but I kind of want to say you're going to bad snob it TRD Pro it just hunter or nothing I feel like the TRD Pro suspension is going to solve my suspension issue with this and then you also get the I force Max more horsepower I think it's going to solve my two major problems with this yeah that's it it's a good truck it's a good update it's we've only exclusively driven TRD Pros so I'm so used to that you know I like the looks I think did a great job and uh yeah shut up [Music] a
