2023 Land Rover Defender Price Review | Cost Of Ownership | Petrol Hybrid | Features | Practicality

it ladies and gentlemen this is the Land Rover Defender as you know we have we are defending world champions of the of the Rugby World Cup but yeah let's get started in this review I drive out of McDonald's I then drive to yfm Studios cool stuff I then buy a spring pop Jersey and then I drive to a petrol station to put some Petrol in my Defender and then I talk about electric cables with extreme and then I drive the Land Rover Defender to an electrical charging station to put some electricity in it more on that later by now I'm sure you have a lot of questions so let me answer the first one this is the Land Rover Defender 110 p400e x Dynamic HSE it comes with a 2 liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine now I know someone is thinking a 2 liter Petrol in this big Land Rover what surely there has to be more to the story than that and yes there is this is actually a petrol electric hybrid so you've got the petrol engine and you have some batteries to provide you with some electrical power as well but I'll come back to that a little bit later first let us appreciate just how cool the defender looks look at it it says I am important take me seriously respect me well done Land Rover well done speaking of respect in other cars you have to scare people out of the Fast Lane you either have to do this yes I'm honking in the calm recording this in or you flash them drive on their Bamba that type of thing here people do it out of respect they see you in the review mirror and they let you through you're wondering but right now you're not even driving in the fast lane yes I'm driving like a rich person at the speed limit adaptive cruise control the car is handling everything for me I'm enjoying my air suspension seriously I don't know how Land Rover does it but their air suspension is like nothing else all cars should have air suspension in terms of comfort this is as good as it gets now let's talk about the performance in terms of power this produces 297 kilowatts and 640 newton meters of torque it will do 0 to 100 in 5.6 seconds which is very impressive for a Calvin size this thing is a rocket it's fast in fact when you accelerate rate all the passengers will be pulled back to their seats you can't resist the power it's it's powerful guys it's 297 kilowatts is no joke it makes me wonder what the V8 is like but that's a story for another day and on the topic of stories you might be wondering what's the story with the stickers well it turns out that the defender is a worldwide partner for the Rugby World Cup that's happening right now so when I first received the car was thinking why does it have stickers people think I'm driving a company car you know stickers but yeah so the sponsor if you've been watching the World Cup you must check the Billboards there you'll see Defender and it just so happens where the defending world champion so I decided to go out there and get myself a springbok t-shirt I couldn't find the one I wanted there is no stock anywhere I wanted this one let's see how quality is wearing you know the one with the colors it looks cool but there was nothing unless you are a child the only sizes available are are for children come on Nike make more t-shirts what's hard you know people are going to buy them anyway so I ended up buying this one this is the fan t-shirt so I got this one and the reason I'm bringing this up is simply to motivate you to support the boys I'm not saying go buy a t-shirt no just support just watch be excited it's not a lot of things we're world champions at so this is something to brag about you know you don't need to know anything about rugby I don't know that much either I know you spear someone they spear you you run you jump across the line you kick the ball in fact I don't even know how the points work but that shouldn't stop any of us from supporting our team support local rugby guys is the right thing to do and if you're watching from your own country support your own team as for me though personally me Mina I'm supporting the spring box and yeah the defender this car is beautiful in a neighborhood like this it's at home now a lot of Land Rover Defender reviews usually focus when it's off-roading aspects I'm just trying to show you what it's like to live with I would say that's important because at its price you could actually buy a house not the houses you're currently looking at other houses anyway let's take a quick look at the interior as you'll notice the interior of that Defender is different from the interior in the Range Rover because this is meant to be rugged first things first you have wireless apple carplay and wireless Android auto this specific infotainment screen is small I prefer the bigger one that you saw in the Range Rover you have your climate control switches over there in fact all the buttons you need in this car are right there your air suspension your terrain respawns it's all within your reach that is your gear stick someone says it reminds him of another vehicle over there are your USB ports and that is your 12 volt socket and as you can see there are plenty of storage spaces in the defender you also have your folders and as I lift the armrest I'd like to let you know that you have a spot for your wireless charging and a refrigerator those three are all part of the comfort and convenience pack it's an optional extra coming back to the fridge I decided to put it to the test so I'm 16 minutes away from work and for the last 15 minutes I've had my McFlurry in here because this car has a fridge so we'll see how it is by the time I get to work well check back on the McFlurry a bit later first let's take a look at the back seats as you can see you've got a grab handle to help you climb into your vehicle at the back plenty of leg room all of it is there in terms of your comfort you've got rare events and you also have your own climate control this specific car has two USB ports and if you'll notice no fancy carpets here just normal rubber mats because this is meant to be rugged leather seats very comfortable you've got your Center armrest and slots for your cup holders and as a shout out to the old Defenders you'll notice it also has those two top Windows over there a nice touch from Land Rover if you're wondering oh Mr how much what if I have a baby what will I put my baby you can put your baby anywhere you want except the driver's seat of course in fact you can even put your child seat in the front seat just remember if you put a rear-facing seat to disable the airbag your seats are also electrically adjustable not only that your front seats are actually also heated and cooled so if it's hot you can cool yourself if it's cold you can warm up yourself warm up yourself moving on let's get to the part you've all been waiting for electricity now as you know there are different kinds of hybrid vehicles they are self-charging hybrids that don't need to be connected to anything and then they are plug-in hybrids like the car you're looking at right now so to charge up your vehicle you can either charge overnight at home if you live in a flat this car is really not for you just buy the diesel or the petrol but alternatively when you go to the mall you can always charge up your vehicle obviously you won't find this at every mall but certain malls do have it if you're wondering how will I know where to charge my vehicle don't stress the thought of everything in the navigation system of your Land Rover Defender it gives you the nearest charging stations to you so you can pick the one you want and take a drive there and then charge your vehicle one thing you should note though the GPS won't always be accurate about the exact location of the charging station so when you arrive you might need to do this we are straight below okay so we have another parts so unless you're familiar with the mall just ask for directions because when I went to Mall of Africa I didn't ask for directions and I never found the charging station I checked about three parkings at Mall of Africa until I gave up and just went home so over here I was at sandton mall I'm a bit familiar with that mall so I knew exactly where to go I for anime big fan of hybrid vehicles because if you run out of electric charge you can still continue on with your internal combustion engine with a fully electric vehicle when your charger is done it's done Baba it's finished so anyway the car came with that card so you just tap that card and once you see the blue you know your vehicle is charging so for those of you who are wondering how long does it take to charge as you are now seeing on your screen it takes around 1 hour 7 minutes after one hour and six minutes I came back and it was at 98 so we are all good and ready to go so the batteries gave me an extra 40 kilometers of EV range so there's different ways to use it driving on just the petrol engine when I didn't have any charge I was averaging around 13.1 liters to the hundred when you drive it as a hybrid you'll get different kinds of fuel consumption I got around 8 liters to the 100 because I was mostly using the engine but if you are driving around and it's mostly using the batteries your fuel consumption will be low lower than five lower than 4 liters to the hundred and if that's still not enough for you as you're seeing on your screen you can drive it as a fully electric vehicle it'll still get up to speed it'll still go to 120 the only difference is it's taking energy from the battery and not from your petrol tank so as you've seen I got a range of around 40 kilometers So in theory if you live close to work you can always just drive on your electric power drive back home and then charge it overnight or you could just drive it as a hybrid and lower your fuel consumption it works either way a common request I always get is show us the car at night so here is Your Land Rover at see where you're going even in stage 6 load shedding you'll see where you're going speaking of seeing where you're going whether it's by day by night it's a drive-through or just a normal parking the cameras on the defender are excellent you'll see exactly where your car is so you have no excuse you have no reason to scrape any walls or climb any Pavements now before we get to prices as I mentioned earlier I went to yfm In the Land Rover yeah defender on air go to have a discussion about autonomous vehicles and I know a lot of you missed that interview because I didn't tell you in time but don't stress I'll be live in studio again towards the end of September and I will give you the dates but while I was at yfm I actually got to do a lot of cool and interesting things well first of all I got to meet the crew and I also go to play some Gran Turismo and when I was done I got to show the team the Land Rover Defender and these were their reactions you know then what's outside it's digital yeah I mean do you tell there's a camera on top yeah it's a screen yeah if you don't want the screen brightness even good yeah 22 inch these are beautiful I love the ribs yeah I know it is I'm in my queen as well yeah I like this it's much to the today but yeah overall it just looks like um and as you've just seen they were really impressed with the Land Rover Defender and so am I in fact I'm sure after watching this review a lot of you want to go right ahead and buy it well it'll cost you 2 million 198 900 Rand on finance you're looking at 42 989 rent per month over six years at 12 interest and a full tank will cost you 2 209 rent at the current fuel price and if you somehow got an insurance premium of 5500 Rand it would bring your total cost of ownership to 50 698 Rand oh and that was calculated on the base price before any optional extras anyway you get a five-year 100 000 kilometer maintenance plan and a five-year 100 000 kilometer warranty your Hybrid battery also has its own warranty which is eight years but before you leave there are a couple of things I didn't mention you've got a a proper panoramic sunroof it just looks cool well done Land Rover we have that that is the coolest feature I have seen in any car so far you can activate and deactivate the chart lock from the front seat so you don't have to open doors and twist anything it's there and the other thing I didn't tell you is the boot by the way I've decided to name this car kolisi you know after Sia khalisi anyway over there is your boot just bear in mind this vehicle has some batteries and electrical stuff going on so that's your boot space it's not too bad could be better over there is your bag and inside your bag you'll find your charging cable in case you want to charge at home let me know in the comments would you give a plug-in hybrid a chance or you're still okay with petrol or diesel Defenders personally of course I would go for the V8 but yeah I think with this cars it depends on the type of Lifestyle you have for some people this is perfect low fuel consumption stay close to charging stations or can charge from home wait for it wait for it Defender so yeah let me
