2023 CHEVY COLORADO: HIGH OUTPUT ENGINE DEALER INSTALL PROCESS

welcome back to the channel so today's an exciting video I'm going to walk you through the process of getting your l3b high output engine calibration with your dealership they can do at any Chevy dealership now and the way this is going to work and I'm going to put a set of instructions so you can see it pause it read it but I'm going to go through it real quick with you um just so you know what you need the dealer to do specifically after I go through these instructions I'm going to go to my dealer get it done and do an after ride review of how it went if there was any problems any hiccups and um if it was as smooth as it should be okay so you have to pay for it it came with my truck but all the Chevy dealers didn't know what to do but Chevy did just release something very awesome it is a service bulletin a tsba technical service bulletin bulletin number 23-na-081 release date is May 2023 and this service bulletin tells your dealership step by step what they need to do I'm going to read it through you can pause it on the screen um it'll be up prior to me being here so all right so brand Chevy model Colorado 2023-2023 engine l3b means you need the um the turbo plus engine for that all right how are they going to get this engine calibration step one obtain the VIN from the vehicle for reprogramming step two call it techline customer support tcsc at 1-800-828-6860 to receive an rwq ECM reconfiguration step three they're going to flash the ECM calibration and complete the setup process using the SPs the service programming system number four the labor for download in the reflash of the module is to be charged to the labor operation under warranty information five this engine calibration is included with the vehicle transaction price and you will be provided a SPS warranty claim code upon reprogramming completion so the TSB outlines exactly what you have to do and we're going to go see how easy it is to do that stay tuned I just want to clarify a few things before everyone runs out to get their high output engine celebration there are two things that need to have been selected beforehand one you're going to need the turbo plus engine which is labeled l3b and then number two you would have had to have selected the tune option um coming right off the line because it provides it its own lpo code which will oh I'm sorry if I get these terms wrong um essentially GM will know that there's an rwq code for Activation so the way it works is as long as those two items uh are had beforehand coming off the line they'll be able to move forward turning your turbo plus engine to the high output engine through an ECM flash um I could be wrong I don't believe that if your engine did not come with that stuff right if you have the the l3b but you did not have the lpo dealer installed option for the tune you may not be able to get it yet because it did not come with its own rwq you need to check with your local dealers but I know for a fact that if you had the l3b engine lpo dealer installed option for the high output engine calibration it will in fact have an rwq code that if you present this TSB the dealer will be able to follow it step by step and reflash your ECM moving your uh torque up from 391 to 430. I hope this helps I just wanted to add this in there in case everyone starts running out make a few phone calls first if you know your truck didn't come with the tune GM is planning on releasing an add-on for trucks that did not come with that tune which means it wasn't an lpo option and there would be no rwq for Activation so just double tap with your dealers but for those who came off the line with the l3b engine the turbo plus and the dealer installed option to get that uh that torque bumped up with the tune you all are good to go out to your dealer and present this TSB to fix that and they're going to make your turbo plus into a high output all right we're on the way to the dealer let's go ahead and use our fancy remote start go down The Stairway to Heaven you know this foreign [Music] all right y'all here we go all right y'all I'm over here at Rick Hender Chevy um gave them the TSB number and they went ahead and took the truck over here Rick Ender so they're gonna give me a call once it's done once it's done I'll do a follow-up with you guys to make sure that it they did what they needed to do there's no issues does it feel different does it drive different but we're almost there so should take a few hours they have to follow that TSB line by line to get the authorization code to actually complete the tune for that PIN number because it's part of the warranty so I'll follow up right when we're done hmm alright everybody welcome back okay so we are done so I just got the truck back and I'm going to go ahead and take it home I'm gonna try to do this the best I can and we're going to see how it performs I do have the AC on is very hot here so I'm gonna see if I if it's noticeably different um so everything looks the same on my screen obviously you're not going to see that what you're going to see is in the paperwork so it's going to tell you that you know codes have been activated um reprogrammed and I'll get on it a little bit to see um if we can feel that what is it 50 pound torque difference we may not be able to but just knowing that it's done uh the work that I paid for it came with it so the truck had the rwq already with it um so we're gonna go ahead and get on it a little bit once I make this turn just like I had said in the uh before you know you just have to bring him to the dealer show them the TSB and their techs just need to follow it and they should know what to do from that point pretty self-explanatory and pretty easy um I'm not sure why it was such a big deal to for GM not to already have that information available for the dealers so um running good I'm sure they took it for a spin to make sure everything was running correctly so we're gonna make this U-turn I'm just gonna get out I'm gonna see if I if I notice that torque increase 50 pounds quite a bit not a lot of modifications can even give you 50 pounds of torque and a lot of you Gearheads out there will know exactly what I'm talking about not a lot of Strat uh just bolt-on parts are going to give you 50 foot pounds of torque just like a lot of bolt-on parts aren't going to give you an increased horsepower so let's see if that um torque is in the low end uh once it's like this is a long light once we get out of here oh yeah yeah that pickup is quick you know it could completely be a placebo effect but to me it feels quicker you know it feels like it's it's a little bit better on that pickup which would make sense it has that a little bit extra torque in there for Poland whatever you want to do off-roading um yeah it really it really just pulls you out it actually I don't know if that was on purpose with the lock my seat belt I probably don't ever hit it that hard often yeah it's pretty cool that they can just you know do something so simple and Flash that ecule drivers in Virginia man that's I know you guys [Music] are crazy and give it another go here can't quite yet you can [Laughter] yeah it's so you can feel it's got more pull I guess um push for the rear wheel drive trucks but it's uh yeah it seems to be a little more reactive um again it went from 391 to 430 it doesn't seem like a big difference but it is a pretty big difference here let me get up there I'm about to get on the highway and then we can kind of see what that obviously I've been punching it so my my MPGs probably won't be very good but I can get up to highway speeds in just a second so we can see here [Music] but yeah it's um the pedal is is more sensitive to the touch some people will be able to recognize that some people may not foreign [Music] [Laughter] [Music] great so it seems like it was literally as simple as that um follow the steps in my first part of my video go to the dealer present the TSB let them know that you'd like the work done now this is for vehicles that came with this order from the factory keep that in mind um I don't know yet if it's available for non rwq coded vehicles yet [Music] [Laughter] as it picks up it's
