The $8,000 Drag Race! Should You REALLY Spend More for the High Output 2023 Chevy Colorado?

hey Andre I'm a little bit confused we're here at the drag strip but we brought two pretty much identical truck yeah one's a GMC and one's a Chevy but they're the same truck in essence no they're not the same they're both turbocharged yes but one has a high output engine and the other one doesn't all right so what's the horsepower on these two trucks they're both 310 yeah they're identical no one has more torque the high output has 430 pound feet of it I get it now so we're gonna see which one what is up with that what are you doing here well I brought another time with another four-cylinder turbo but this one is hopefully a little bit more sporty so you want to play Do Ya yeah so I think what we should do is I want to take Andre on in his um yellow green thing and then um we'll let you two race all right let's go for it dude are you up for it uh two two liters two liters baby you've got more displacements I have 2.7 let's do it [Music] well Tommy really you so you brought a convertible Camaro well Andre I wanted to give you a shot at this drag race so this is admit immediately the porkiest slowest Camaro probably on the market but I still think it's going to be quicker than that Colorado but I think you're maybe thinking differently huh well midsize trucks used to be kind of you know working vehicles for the most part or off-roaders they've been kind of slowish but they're turbocharging all of them now including this Colorado so I have a lot of torques 390 pound feet of it yeah I mean you've got nearly a hundred pound feet more torque than I do I've got 295 so this Camaro is probably a two liter four-cylinder it has an 8-speed automatic 275 horsepower and I weigh 3 600 pounds in this convertible form actually I I think I weigh a thousand pounds more but let's see what it does get more horsepower than I do yeah I have 310 so I have more horsepower lots more torque but I weigh more than that level drag race comparison I've gone into sport mode I don't have sport modes rear wheel drive obviously my friend I called you over here because although I have a truck and you have a car they share one part what's the part Andre what's this oh you got Camaro vents yes that means I'm sporty right that's at least 20 horsepower Andre three two one go good launch Audrey kind of fell asleep at the launch on the gearing on this car is far superior off the line uh didn't have a very good start [Music] I'm just crushing them although the best of the battle so it seems to be no no no 15.90 of course we are a mile above sea level so that is really going to hurt these vehicles even with the turbo charging and I um because I was thinking I'm in two-wheel drive and I did not have a good start maybe yeah all right let's give it one more go let's go so fast the camera fell down [Music] so Tommy even when I tried to break torque it a lot it's trying to control my launch but I just turned traction control off so I'm thinking that this will help me all right my friend [Music] it's not a great sound well they tell me it sounds better from the front as the turbos pulls up [Music] ready all right let's do it [Music] foreign between the two he is now in the Running Oh yes that's a lot better oh but the lighter weight Camaro is just barely pulled ahead at the higher speeds 50 miles an hour into the Camaro traction control disabled was key getting more torque to the ground 83 miles an hour and across the line performance finish that was 15 15 5-2 the time was 91.8 miles an hour for me really good launch very even launch Andre what'd you run there I ran the 16.88 and 88 miles per hour I almost went back in time 10.52 so um the Camaro uh just barely eked out the the lower displacement or the lower power 2.7 I'm curious what's going to happen when we raise the high power versus yeah maybe power because the horsepower is the same right so um let's get that canyon in here we'll let my dad drag race here yeah I'm really curious about that [Music] all right Andre so identical horsepower but uh how about torque well you have the high output version of the 2.7 liter turbo which means you have 40 pounds feet more of torque basically 10 percent more 430 for you 390 for me so the difference between torque and horsepower is I'll give you two analogies you pick which one you like right there's a classic analogy horsepower represents how fast you're going when you hit the wall and park represents how far you go through the wall I don't like those I mean drag racing horsepower basically means top end speed and torque means how quickly you get off the line trucks are about 50 18 pounds apart so they weigh identical amount Arrow Auto mode yeah me too all-wheel drive Auto engaged come on oh it's close yes [Music] bye bye Andre maybe Roman fell asleep and what [Music] and there goes the torque advantage oh yeah how is he pulling away and oh all right Andre how'd you go well I did 17.06 at 85 miles per hour I went 16.22 at 87.9 miles an hour wow that was a huge difference dude did you break the rocket pretty hard or how did you launch it yeah you want to try the rolling race yeah let's do a rolling race okay I'll call it out so let's uh turn around and then basically the way it works was we'll get up to 30 miles an hour across the line and then just forward [Music] all right all right 30 miles an hour number 22 okay I'm at 30. catch up to me you're behind me okay three two one go come on kick down yeah work really does make a huge difference once again GMC wins the race geez uh did your transmission kind of kick down right away and I can't tell really this this this transmission is so smooth it's even hard to tell when it shifts I guess I could be looking at my uh if there if it tells you I don't even know if it tells you Andre it does not tell you anymore um but I couldn't actually tell my transmission kicked down but something happened uh but anyways it looks like GMC has the upper Edge yeah something happened I won come on speed up to 60. let's go to the brake test [Music] all right [Applause] [Music] okay we're coming in hot all right 55. but I'm at 60. wow dude um I think this is why I got off to a better start in the first drag race I think my tires have more grip apparently all right let's see what the difference is all right wow what is it 120 feet the GMC Canyon wow that's um pretty incredible for a big truck I remember when 120 feet was like performance car territory am I dating myself no no you're not dating yourself because a Camaro had a similar result in the car video yeah if you want to terrain uh who would have thunk that mug terrains would do better is there a weight difference between the two trucks they're almost identical dude I mean 15 pounds more your truck weighs yeah so I've okay Vin Diesel but there's an asterisk okay without cruise control who needs cruise control anyways I seriously though uh I think that we did show the value of paying extra for the more torquey engine yeah the GMC Canyon 84 you see here is eight thousand dollars more than the Colorado so 49 000 versus 41 000. and how much is that Camaro it's about 34 Grand if you want to go fast clearly a
