very good place to be in but you know they will be in that tough spot where they have to figure out all right you know how do i win this out but for now looking at the game in front of you i know joe has probably prepared for this matchup you know i feel like especially with the trick room or excuse me the tailwind pokemon on collins side of the field uh you're pretty used to seeing this matchup and i'm wondering if he's just gonna go with a pretty straightforward game plan into game one just to figure out okay what is this information you know how do i play around this and hopefully a gastrodon finally making an appearance on stream as well yeah i think there's a decent chance here and you asked for it i believe joseph is actually going to leave that gastronomic with the incinerator in the landry in a format with restricted pokemon we actually i don't see any restrictives this feels like bgc 2018 or format like that and so yeah one of the big questions here first of all is who's incinerous faster right so we'll be able to tell based off the intimidate could be a speed tie but you know both players know how fast their incentives are so they'll have some sense of who's actually faster the colin gets his intimidate off first this is you know the dual intimidate lead would really shut down the uh groudon but no groudon lead and then the wider which is a big reveal there yeah usually white herb is run at this format to uh stop the intimidate from sticking so this landris as a result free to go on the offense you still do have to worry about like an ice beam or a yawn maybe from that gastrodon but gonna be able to do big damage right off the bat absolutely and i do apologize actually joseph does have venusaur in his team i'm very excited for that i think the graphic was wrong earlier when it showed a real boom and so beautiful skin there it did yeah it was like you know what i heard you i'm here so you know the thing with the evil tall gastroes elite is it's like probably expect evil tall uh or sorry instant gastro as elite is you expect evil tongue groudon in the back right and so colin might already have some sense of what all four pokemon are and so the wider appear is interesting no dynamaxx options so joseph may be baiting a max play colin does not get baited into it actually just goes for a rock slide here which is going to be some pretty consistent damage onto an evil tall especially considering that evil toss the pokemon wants the max and that's a huge parting shot doesn't get baited into a fake and on turn one colin basically says i'm gonna ignore your gastrogon gastron in that position like you mentioned could go for a yawn you could ice beam you could max quake but joseph plays a little bit passive there and colin with an excellent turn one play there yeah it's interesting to see how colin reacted to that real passive lead from joe when you think about it the incineroar and the gastrodon would only really be able to set up stuff for the future you know you can set up maybe another intimidate or like a parting shot you can set up a yawn but colin just recognizing that going for rock slide consistent damage vgc favorite move right there and uh using the opportunity to get that exhaustion in as well without any damage yeah so right now colin definitely has a speed advantage right it's interesting you could even consider dynamaxing the landers right and you know just go for bikini that blade here onto evil i think if you're joseph you definitely want to consider switching back into the incinerator i mean it's against two physical attackers and so there's evil tall pivoting out immediately and there's a cigarette coming back in the big question now i have is the gastrodon right like are you able to successfully get a yawn off do you just go for an ice beam in earth power gastro's actually very good into both of these pokemon right now yeah and i think this is gastron's strength right now in this metagame it's able to really sit in front of a lot of the threats and just be like yes i'm gonna take you know about 50 of my health from whatever attacks you throw out but i can threaten with earth power i can threaten to put you to sleep i can throw it to ice beam there's just so much it can do it's such a fantastic pokemon but another titan of vgc that lander is going for the dynamaxx and going to be able to do some big damage first the playroom will connect with that gastrodon bringing it down to roughly half its health and an airstream from that lander is looking for that knockout survive does not find it but will give a speed speed boost to itself and that's option for the next turn let's see so what does gastron go for here there's a lot of potential attacks it's just going to be terrific power onto lasagna that's really consistent damage right so if you intimidate really paying dividends here and this is why incineroar has just been such a common pokemon in every vgc format so now you've pivoted incineroar in you can go for something like a fake out on tazashian the gastro is pretty low hp so you could consider protecting it you could even switch it out into say your evil taller crowd groudon here and you know if you're calling you're thinking okay well because of the intimidate now things are a little bit tougher i don't think you really want to max quake gastron because if it switches into evil tall that could be really bad so maybe you quake the incinerator slot instead well a sacred sword first into that incineroar we'll bring it down to just below half of its health followed up by a max quake going to activate that chukka berry on to the incineroar but it probably won't be enough you know even at minus one attack that incineroar will be knocked out by that max quake also will boost the special defense of the landorus therian and that zashan meaning the zashan could survive a second earth power from that gastrodon now it's all going to depend on targeting here and uh gastrodon does go for that earth power will connect with that exhaustion but that one special defense boost was enough yeah one really interesting thing there was like incineroar just switched in right so you could just fake out for karazashian but i think what joseph was reading into was zoshkin protecting so he was like okay i know i shook a berry here i can take a max quake go for a parting shot on your landers conserve the incineroar colin says i'm going to call you out on that i'm just going to go straight out on the offense here and the thing is like even if you fake out plus power exhaustion i still get a decently powerful max wicket to ensign then if you knock out the zashi and i get a free switch into whatever's in the back as well so right now the main advantage for joseph is that at least he hasn't dynamax but he certainly has taken a lot of damage across the board right so i'm curious like does evil sucker punch here because if you do you can actually knock out someone if not both of your pokemon will get out to bed and that's a big problem yeah and i have to wonder as well you know while landorus is at full health you know certainly it does have a speed boost but it has been intimidated this might be a good opportunity for colin to consider maybe a max guard and then switching it out to try and get it back out on the field looking at joe's pokemon that are left on his side of the field i would assume that it was the groudon in the back but it looks like joe is opting to go for dynamaxx this turn which makes me wonder if it is going to be that proud on as gastrodon uh this one is for you all you gastrodon fans out there we're getting a dynamaxx gastrodon already in this game one wow okay yeah i'm certain like i'm curious to see where this goes right because uh behemoth blade is going to go out into the volatile now landrus is going to be able to get some damage off into gastro but this certainly won't be a ko and okay i saw colin here actually doubling up i think onto the evil tall slot trying to cover for the evil tall dynamax and so castro says you know what uh if i don't dynamax here i might just faint and i've just like lost way too many resources and if you look at colin's team right there's like dual intimidate and so the idea here is okay i dynamic stallion i get the quake off and you know kyogre actually can't deal very much damage exhaustion so even though this castle on such low hp it's actually okay right because it's like where's the damage coming from after this turn exactly and gastrodon as well you know speaking of damage if it is that kyogre as colin's last pokemon will be able to use the storm drain ability and boost its special attack we'll also get some nice passive recovery from this leftovers you know it's possible that gastrodon will just be able to find just enough time you know get those boosts and go for big damage especially if gastrodon has access to something like max hailstorm now you have to wonder that's going to do so much damage to landris as its dynomax will be running out yeah and i think this is one of the tough things for colin right like the decision to uh drop real a boom because real boom is really valuable to gastrodon right that will basically just win against gastron but it feels very weak into a team with incineroar can't do much to venusaur or evil talk pretty good into crowd on is the thing right so colin deciding to go with the dual intimidate here but uh joseph by actually playing more towards the special attackers has been able to kind of mitigate the intimidate so you know that gastron dynamics felt a little bit scary but joseph may be feeling comfortable saying first of all i've intimidated you second of all you also have to cover for evil dynamics in here and so you know colin doesn't get very much damage onto it now despite gastro being a relatively low hp it's actually in a really solid spot right you can now just consider protecting the evil talk going for a hailstorm onto landers or a quake onto incinerator and if you win the weather war by getting a knockout or if you get a knockout here you're the weather against kyogre that's a big deal exactly and you know that kyogre will really struggle to find damage at that point but for now rockslide will connect with both pokemon on joe's side gets the flinch onto that eval tall parting shot will tell us what that last pokemon is for colin and whether or not there will be a weather war this is such a fast set to watch because both players are bringing in incineroar and they're like i'm not gonna click fake i'm just gonna click party shop who needs fake out right uh that is a brutal flinch for uh joseph's m though because you know if the evil tool does not flinch there it can maybe knock out the landers with something like a dark pulse or a foul play castro here will also actually get an attack off so it's going to be hail storm and i would expect this to actually just get the knockout on to landers but let's see actually with the special defense boost from earlier able to survive and so i think you know joseph that's why i was disappointed right here you probably doubled up until landers to just get the knockout onto it and so it's a big big flinch there because if you get the ko um and you know there's a parting shot onto gastrodon as well it's further decreasing special attack but if you get the ko there you win the weather war and suddenly uh it's groudon against like incen plus kyogre with the sun up and then like you still have gastronomy alive as well and so uh big flinch there now landers with the pressure to rock slide the thing is kyogre can't really do very much to gastro here other than maybe click ice beam yeah i mean one thing that we could consider is given that gastrogen is at minus one special attack you might be able to get away with a water spread move for this turn just bringing gastrodon back up to neutral it's not going to make much of a difference in the landorus damage calc at this point you know landorus is just going to be knocked out regardless so if if it benefits you maybe you can do that or maybe you just use fly to get your landorus out of the way so kyogre can do what it does best dark pulse from that evaltol will connect with the kyogre and deal a decent chunk of damage ice beam though kyogre's move of choice will connect with that yveltal for the knockout and gastrodon big question here is did it target that kyogre or did it go for a second max hailstorm into that landorus spot oh quake into the kyogre so again we're not going to be looking at a knockout here but that special defense boost is really going to help this gastrodon out as uh it's done a fantastic job of just sort of finding that anchor and giving joe's team that bulk that he was really looking for yes it's interesting because joe now does have to switch into the groudon so he'll actually effectively like lose the weather from collins and landers obviously can't do anything here so you know your play is basically i would say to switch kyle go out into anywhere to reset the weather but the question is how do you actually like do enough damage in this end game right because like the thing about landers is that it's really strong dynamics a lot weaker outside of dynamics right you're relying on like rock slide or fly you could earthquake but then you would damage yourself and then insider is not a huge damage dealer here either so like brillo boom over incinerator he would have actually put colin in a much better position but choosing the right four pokemon here's so hard because like you're trying to cover for everything and uh you know colin wanted to bring into the cover for dynamaxx groudon so yeah this next turn it's like you know landers obviously it's locked into a move colin can neither protect the coyote you could go for an ice beam freeze or switch out the kyogre and uh go from there yeah it's gonna be a switch here which i think is the best option yeah you want to have that weather on the field especially if you're going to be looking to those water type attacks or possibly i guess an ice beam sort of like i mean it doesn't benefit from the weather but you certainly can weaken your opponent's fire moves if it comes to that gastrodon going for a protect not wanting to take damage from this incoming fly colin does target that gastrodon for the attack groudon's precipice blades will not attack landorus but does connect with incineroar and reveals another shuckaberry i think that's the most popular item we've seen on incineroar this entire weekend and it makes such a difference right because it allows you to take press displays and max quicks with a little bit more confidence and so to me this game has very much been about the gastron so far now you have switched an instant it does have a fake out into boat slots right and you did intimidate the groudon as well so you could switch out landers into kyogre go for fake out one of the big questions still is how do you knock out gastron right it's either through like an ice beam or maybe an earthquake from landers after you reset the intimidate uh landers right now doesn't really have too many great offensive options uh so one interesting thing here is you know this colin go for the switch out into kyle gurd you try to bait your opponent into knocking out so you get a free switch in uh it feels like i don't know like if i were in calling in common shoes i feel forced to honestly switch out right now uh the gas run with leftovers by the way getting so much recovery each turn as well but colin's opting not to go for the switch here not wanting to lose the kyogre at any damage a second protect from that gastrodon will keep it safe from a fake out on the incinerator lander is going for earthquake going to deal damage to both the groudon and the incinerator now we already saw the shuckerberry consumed which means that incineroar is in a lot of danger but will not be knocked out this turn instead heat crash from that groudon will pick up the knockout on landorus so the decision there from collins and was okay i'm not gonna switch because kyogre is like the way i can knock out groudon right now so i need to get the free switch into it uh and so you know if you switch into kyogre there you do risk like just taking some damage interesting enough it would have been a heat crash the kyogre actually to survive but it's hard to you know go for that with confidence because gastron could maybe pressure you with damage as well there was the fake out there as well so cairo comes out safely now uh and so it can go for an origin pulse right um if i you know it's like this groudon potentially survive with an assault vest here we're gonna have to see it is just gonna be origin pulse so first of all does it connect on groudon the answer is going to be yes does it get the knockout against an assault this groudon i would think so but let's see it's gonna be close and it does knock out that groudon it's just this gastrodon remaining throat chop from incineroar will deal a nice chunk of damage to that gastrodon going for a yawn into the kyogre so now gastrodon can go for a protect the next turn to make sure the kyogre is put asleep but i think one more throat chop from that incineroar should be enough to knock it out assuming that gastrodon's leftovers don't really make a difference here oh yeah it's close i mean gastro can go for you should go for the protect here right kyogre falls asleep then the question is the subsequent turn do you feel like you can guarantee pick a throw chop it's actually going to be super super close it's been a very intricate end game and honestly and uh great decision to go for the yawn there rather than to you know just go for a nerd power for example this way you make one pokemon completely useless and so this is a big turn if you're joe and you don't think you're going to survive at throw chop you can opt for the double protect or you can say you know what i'm just going to go straight for the earth power right now yeah and i also have to wonder too you know if the kyogre isn't knocked out quick enough and it's allowed to wake up you also have to worry about those ice beam freezes which could make or break this game but no double protect let's throw trucks asleep here's the throat chop from that incineroar it just just barely gets that knockout and game one goes to colin joe just barely barely barely missing out in what was a really close game yeah i mean that was so fun because i think both players were just like making like really interesting plays like uh and like not going for obvious fake-outs at any point a lot of parting shots around all across the board colin actually decided to just go for the earthquake to get the chip damage onto the groudon even though he damaged his own incinerator put himself in a position where then kayaker could finish things off with an origin pulse there and so you know it's interesting because kyogre grounded you expected to just pick up the knockout but it's all this is such a common item on groudon that uh you know if you haven't a special defense investment you know and kyogre who doesn't have max special tech investment there's a chance brown can survive in that situation and so really interesting match there would like the gastro max was nice but in the end like didn't really get that much off um and yeah i mean that was just a really thrilling battle because i think both players just opted to take very kind of unconventional routes throughout the whole game yeah and i'm curious going into this game too if you're joe um it felt like the gastrodon dynamax was very um it felt like it was a response right it wasn't so much that joe was like you know making a decision like this is my strategy it was more like i'm just responding to how collins played this game it's been very uh unexpected for me i'm gonna go for the gastrodon dynamax try to catch my opponent by surprise um do you try and go for that strategy again or do you just try and lock into maybe in a veltal dynamax a little bit early on before you have all that chip damage down when evaltol can do what it does best i think if you're joe if you want a max gastron you got to do it a little bit earlier uh not when it's at like one third of its health right if you dynamics in the beginning of the game it can be really valuable but then the way colin gets around the adjustment is maybe you drop in cinema and you bring willowboom instead right real boom didn't come out in that last game you're still able to win the match up but really could be a very critical pokemon in this set specifically for colin especially because gastrodon was actually pretty tough to break that yeah and so the other interesting play for both players is like maybe you just now click fake out a little bit more frequently with incinerator because at both times they were like just opting for parting shots a lot more i think the stressful thing about maxing evil toes it's like just very weak into the trio of landers and kyogre right you've got to worry about max rockfall from landers which you know is whiter as well so intimidate doesn't help out as much against it you've got to worry about both making the blade and potential play rough from zashian and then kyogre even can do a lot of damage right and then so you look at joe's team it's like okay where are the max options you've got where'd you like you know that feels really weak into landorus and such a big pokemon in the last one that doesn't feel great castrol is really good right it's good against everything that's not named really booms you could just go for a max earlier there yeah you've got the evil you've got the ground i mean joe has a lot of max options on his team and he needs to basically get more out of dynamax um because the impressive thing is that the max came out really late in that last game and it was still really really close right yeah so yeah i'm curious who do you who do you up to dynamaxx i don't know i mean i think if i were in joe's shoes i probably would stick with the gastric on a second time i feel like the veltol has enough pressure on the field that like colin won't be able to have that really boom out in the lead spot like you have to bring it in the back and it has to be something that you wait until the evoltol has you know sort of cleared and got knocked out uh before you reveal it and go on the offense with it so if you do something like a evil tall gastrodon lead and just go for that gastrodon maybe turn two dynamax maybe try to get a yawn in there if you can um yawn is a big deal right it is it is i mean forcing your opponent to either go to sleep or switch their pokemon out uh can be such a shift in momentum like it's a very very good tool especially knowing that landers is in lumbery yeah that can change everything because like landers got a lot of value in that last game right so you're just spitballing some potential lead ideas for joe here like you could go insane evil talk you could go in some gasher again i think joe's hesitance and maxine gastro in the early game is definitely justified because let's say you max and you target the wrong slot right let's say you hailstorm landers and landers just switches out into incineroar that's a really rough first turn yeah let's say you quake into azashin protect like the idea is like if your gastronomex gets stalled out and it doesn't actually pick up more than like one knockout you're in a pretty tough spot right um one other thing that joe does have on his team is you know that venusaur uh and so yeah we've talked about it a lot still talking about it here i i think it is tough to bring out into a team with leo landris and zashian yeah uh but you know when you have sleep powder right like that's also a big big deal and the other interesting option is dynamaxing groudon immediately because yes kyogre is scary but even a single max quake on a dynomax groudon allows you to actually take a water type attack pretty well right and then so it's like kyogre uh isn't really going to want to dynamax in front of groudon when there's gastro uh and so you could maybe just back i think like the tough thing for joe here is it's like once you commit your dynamics you really need to get a lot of value from it then like uh colin just has so many switches for it feels like a lot of like the potential max options yeah i mean the other thing that i think you mentioned in passing is if that groudon is also a salt vest on top of a possible dynomax plus max quake i mean that's so much bulk against the kyogre it almost allows you to ignore that weather match up for a turn like you know not for the entire game not for more than like two turns probably but you do have that one opportunity to go for precipice blades and not necessarily care about how much damage you're going to take in return because you know barring a critical hit or something you'll probably be okay yeah i'm just like trying to think you know in joe's position you just saw the interest land at incineroar land risk lead and so it's like you the gastro is actually decently uh decently good against that right like do you want to really lead groudon into that probably not and uh you know evil tall doesn't feel amazing either and so yeah i think a yawn from gastrodon early on would definitely be powerful and that could actually drastically change the outcome of the game all right well you heard it from here uh let's go see what these trainers are going to do for their adjustments starting off game two colin incineroar and landorus once again eva tall this time for joe and the incineroar so this is interesting because you know let the landers on the opposing side does have the white herb um but basically what joe's committing to now is like okay like this this screams to me like i'm going to look towards dynamaxing evil tall early and maybe go for max airstreams uh what however is also interesting is the dynamic of these intimidates right collins and cena are going off first before joseph's and so like if you're calling right now turn one you can just go for like a dynamax fake out and then a max airstream uh joseph can counteract that with by dynamaxing volton airstreaming yourself right and so i think joseph recognizing okay i just want to get more damage out off across the board and i personally expect evil tall to dynamax here but you could also protect evil taller switch it out into like the groudon in the back yeah i'm very curious to see if we're going to have like a turn one dynamax from both these trainers because it felt like game one you know things were a bit slower you know maybe not going immediately for that dynamax option for going the fake outs for parting shots and what have you both these trainers are certainly in a position now where if they wanted to they could easily go on the offense for some of that big damage but instead this is a great play colin's switching in that zoshen for the incineroar now that joe's intimidator is on the field dawson should have the opportunity to take advantage of that intrepid sword as joe also switching out that incineroar for the gastrodon so once again making a lovely appearance and uh looks like we're getting some dynamics in on the action as well with that landorus yeah i mean the idea of switching exhaustion here is that if you can max airstream next to it even if evil tall dynamax is at max airstream's exhaustion is still faster than evil till the next turn and whereas like landorus you know against max speed evil would actually be slower so colin's saying okay even if you max the evil tall here max restroom is going to kill landers and this ensures that maiz auction will be stronger but no dynamics here just the foul plate immediately off into landorus that's a huge amount of damage landrus is gonna get a full powered max airstream off and it's gonna be into the evil tall slot as well so that is now dangerously low in terms of hp yeah and that zashan will love that speed boost as it will ensure that it is still the fastest pokemon on the field uh joe certainly could go for a bit of a defensive play here and maybe protect that ebeltall and try and get a yawn off on this gastrodon but the combination of the zashen and the landorus together i mean if colin just decides to double into that gastrodon i would imagine it would just get knocked out at this point yeah your only counterplay then is uh the same play from the first game which you switch out into incineroar here but we're just gonna see a dynamax immediately that's the other way to kind of get around getting knocked out immediately uh and so you know evil tell maybe can get another foul play off on the way out this is what we were saying though right you got a dynamic gastrodon a little bit earlier joseph recognizes that and so uh you know since colin already led with vincent landry i feel like the odds of really booming the last one is relatively slim so i think this is a great adjustment by joseph recognizing gastro is already pretty good here let me just play a little bit more aggressively with it immediately yeah and it being at full health means that it will connect a max quake for certain with that's auction or another max hailstorm with the landorus first max quake from landorus into the evaltol expecting a switch doesn't find it now that landorus is knocked out by a max hail storm yeah so colin they're always like okay you're going to switch evil town and incinerator i'm just going to ko your incendiary with this double up but joseph's like nope i'm not going to switch and uh colin gets punished really heavily for it you know the the thing there is even if colin reads into like the evil protect and doubles up on a gastrodon your best play is then maybe a max quake and a bikini blade that would be a lot of damage but that does feel uh overly risky especially people just switches out into incineroar so this is a really fun set to watch i think because blow players are just making like really aggressive predictions on certain turns and uh this time around i think joseph in a much better spot and if there's no real boom in the back it's like suddenly how do you deal with this gastrodon right that's why i was saying okay if you expect joseph to play more aggressively gastrodon colin then maybe drops the rule of boom or drops the incendiary boom but that isn't the case and so the game's not over yet but that might be an adjustment comment thinking about going into game three he still has to stare down this gastronomy can just max quick max quick max quake right now that's very scary yeah and even i i feel like your best bet is just to try and keep that zostian as safe as possible but college is going on the offense sacred sword is enough to knock out that evil tall so it will be this incineroar with the parting shot into the gastrodon going to drop its special attack one stage which will certainly help out but that's not damage and assuming that this is going to be that kyogre as the last pokemon on collins side of the field we're in a situation that's very similar to game one in terms of pokemon but just the amount of health that gastrodon has i feel like is really just this key distinction that puts it in gastrodon's favor absolutely i think one thing that's also really interesting here is that the parting shot goes off right and so you actually have to bring out kyogre first then groudon comes out so suddenly you've lost the weather war if you're calling right and so it does sting a little bit to eat that special attack drop from parting shot uh but you're gonna get the max quake off here it's still pretty good damage across the board collins like wincon right now uh against the gastrodon is essentially like a late game play rough from the zashian right zombie now takes a huge chunk of damage joseph now is able to get a free switch and groudon and now you can just pressure with precious blades and max quake and not really have to worry very much right so groudon comes out this is such a big this is why i like knocking out landers early on was a big deal because that's your switching into ground type attacks now it's like okay a position got on perfectly i've won the weather war you're pretty free to just click precious blades and max quake right now exactly i mean if that incineroar gets uh caught in the way of a max quake or a precipice plate it's going to take huge damage if it gets both of those attacks it'll probably just knock it out despite the shucker berry and uh you know you you mentioned that zashan with the play rough is going to be the play to try and win the game but you have to get to that point and i just don't see colin able to hold on for that long but you know this intimidate will help it will drop that groudon's attack by one stage and you know good old precipice blades can always miss for now ice beam from that kyogre will connect with the groudon and deal a nice chunk of damage to it it is super effective i always hold my breath because i'm like there's that brief pause which you know means that it's not just a double connect immediately uh it can either be a miss or a sugar berry right i know talking talking about nerves i mean that's a big one when you're in this position for sure uh we'll connect with both pokemon on call inside of the field and that max way from the gastrodon not enough to pick up the knockout on that incineroar but certainly within range of another precipice blades or max plate for the next turn so now you know gastron has all these increased stages of special defense so it's like kyogre is doing no damage really with ice beam it's basically down to exhaustion player up but joseph still has you know uh the incineroar waiting in the back as well and so this one it's like okay instead working click fake out onto one pokemon you can switch kyogre out or you can pivot the instant out but uh you know earth power and press displays once again into the instance that's pretty guaranteed if you're joseph you can even consider just going for a yawn onto like kyogre slot keep forcing colin to switch out pokemon basically at this point and gastron still hasn't taken any damage right and that's the thing like if you're able to knock out the landorus before it even you know gets an attack off in a gastrodon and you didn't bring real boom suddenly it's a lot harder to deal with so the upside for colin is that he at least has conserved that zoshi and can angle for a player off onto the gastronomy put the incinerator in the back for joseph that's pretty difficult to deal with and so the ground type attacks are just so good yeah when you're playing a kyogrez team i feel like you really have to have your gastrodon plan in play and you know if your gastrodon plan is trying to get the freeze off the ice beam unfortunately that's not really going to work out most of the time precipice blades will secure the knockout on that incineroar kyogre slowly slowly whittling down its health and gastrodon going to add some more damage on top with another earth power uh bringing kyogre right into the red yeah so you know colin now is going to be able to bring out the zashian but first i mean once they you still don't have the weather war one and you can't knock out both pokemon immediately here which is the other problem yeah uh especially because of the special defense boosts right so a lot of options for joseph at this point right you could just protect the gastrodon switch groudon out into incineroar and then just like fake out birth power for example uh and so from collins and you know how do you win this game ice being critical hit maybe uh i don't even know if a plus one player of chaos a gastronome depending on the investment so that's the other tough thing right now yeah i mean i think that would be great information for game three because i think it'll dictate whether or not you bring the incineroar again versus where you maybe bring that uh boom instead but we're not going to get that information from this turn as gastrodon protecting zashan playroof doesn't connect because of it this kyogre going for the ice beam also into the gastrodon meaning this groudon free to go for another precipice blades will connect with both one on the opposing side of the field and knock them both out and now game three yeah i mean i i think um basically joseph recognized oh my gosh gastrodon was so good for me even when i dynamaxed it with one third hp so why don't you just dynamax a little bit earlier this time right so basically now if you are in collins position you need better answers to gastron so like really boom is one right what is so interesting is i can see joseph not even bringing gastrodon in game three because he now expects colin to make the real boom adjustment how do you expose the real boom adjustment you go towards like dynamaxx evil tall instead right yeah and so there's a lot of mind games here right like i think like both players know okay you kind of need real boom right now because you have no answer like astrodon otherwise uh and so you know just call and just go for the safe option of bringing really boom and then the the extra mind game is to just joseph say you know what i know you're bringing rilla boom real boom completely validates gastrodon i'm just going to drop it for this final game yeah and i think if you were to drop the gastrodon and then replace it with a real boom of your own i feel like that would also be super interesting to see play out as just as collins real boom can attack with you know priority grassy glide into a kyogre or into the gastrodon then the grill boom on joe's side of the field can also you know attack priority into that kyogre and it's it's a tough matchup i mean gastrodon i feel like has really allowed these teams that are built around groudon in particular to just have a very comfortable match-up into a situation that otherwise you'd really struggle with absolutely yeah and actually i think the rule of boom that's on the graphic is supposed to be a venusaur here right right oh my goodness it's faked out again yeah so it is interesting i mean like venusaur low key could be an interesting max option i think the problem with it is it's not like it's you're still so weak into max airstream from landorus but um the other interesting question is like from colin's end max quake as an attack on landers is also pretty valuable just to boost your special defense right and so uh like one adjustment you can make if you're calling is you just drop the incendiary you bring willow boom in the back instead you go with a heavy aggressive lead immediately something like landorus plus oshie immediately with willow boom in the back and kyogre in the back that's certainly one angle a tornado is i don't think you really need in this matchup but you normally bring it for like tailwind pressure but i don't think tailwind's actually super important here and i i i just really want to know what joe does here did he just you know play towards the gastroc did you drop it completely this time well no gastrodon as a lead again wow landorus collins side of the field yveltal incineroar on joe's side of the field no grass type pokemon yet but you know what a lead it seems like all three games we've been seeing these pokemon pop out very early on so what's the adjustment you make move wise to sort of accommodate this yeah it's so interesting to see colin actually lead with the same thing again i wonder like maybe brilla boone once again just isn't in the back and this could be an extra level of mind games both these players are so good that maybe colin thinks that joseph just isn't going to bring gastroen this time around he's like you know what i'm not going to bring the real because i know you're not going to bring gastrodon so you know similar position as we've seen previously i think my favorite thing about these players in all of the games is like they don't click fake out with incinerator they just go for parting shot immediately right and so last time we were in this position evil talk just went for the turn one foul play to get the chip damage on to max hill storm so from collins and you know you could consider just going for a protect here and then parting shotting with your incineroar um into you know either pokemon here or once again just go for the dynomax once again just go for that dynamax on collins side of the field probably gonna be that landerus given that it is the first pokemon to dynamics on the field and uh really has a fantastic matchup against both this evil tall and the incineroar on joe's side of the field but the big question is how long will it be on the field four no dynamics from joe instead foul play from that event going into the incineroar this time around and that lander is following up with a max airstream to that e belt i'll get that speed boost and match the threat of a max airstream from an early dynamax on joe's side of the field so colin possibly thinking a couple of turns ahead with that move the incineroar though happy to do what it does best parting shot giving colin the opportunity to adjust uh maybe try and send in the zashen again a lot of possibilities here i i wouldn't like there was one option for colin to actually drop one of his restricteds like drop the kyogre and bring really boom in instead right and so i'm curious if he has decided for that option because right now it's like what what does this lead really do differently right from previously because it's the exact same lead now joseph there actually went for a foul play onto the instant slot instant is gonna party shot on to the zashian so i was talking about turn what maybe calling considers a protect to beat the foul play but he just goes for an attack once again and it works out so well for colin because he ends up taking no damage yeah his option doesn't have the attack boost from intrepid sword but still play rough if it's allowed to connect with the evaltol certainly will knock it out from that range also could be an opportunity to get some early damage in onto this gastrodon but you know if you're joe do you go for that dynamax again this turn seeing how well it paid off for you in game two yeah well first of all the answer is okay they brought out the gastroenteron like that that was what they were talking about right so it was so consistent for joseph that it makes sense now the question i have is did colin bring willowboom this time around and if you didn't you gotta aggressively get damage onto gastrodon right but it's the same situation where now like evil talk can just switch out into incineroar and this time around joseph is going to make that switch and that intimidate is certainly going to help out and lower the attack of that landorus and that azashin you know we all know what it does we've seen this like i think 10 times alone in this match but the interesting thing here is that uh we will see that captured on dynamaxx once again and i think max hailstorm did about 50 or 60 percent damage to that landorus when it was dynomax so it could be a very good opportunity for joe to get enough damage down onto that landorus so it's knocked out next turn before it's able to get all three of those airstreams and it could also be a good opportunity to go directly for the max quake into that zosian and same thing you know threaten a knockout in a couple of turns max rockfall is the move of choice going into that incineroar probably hoping to catch some super effective damage onto that ebeltall but you know bringing incineroar down to half is pretty good in this situation and zashan following it up with a sacred sword for that knockout big play here as colin actually just decides i'm gonna double onto your evil toe again last game you protected it but i don't think you're gonna go for it again and this time around it's actually a max quake rather than a hail storm on to uh the landris slot so quake is gonna do actually pick up a one-hit knockout there is that a critical hit or no yeah it had to have been because i think we've seen that damage calc already uh but that really works out in joe's favor as that zashan gonna be unable to really threaten the dynamics of gastrodon it's going to be unable to go for those quick attacks against the evaltol there's the real boom though okay reveal the adjustment of that now gastrodon is still dynamaxx and i believe that means gastrodon can take a grassy glide at this point but i think that groudon is in a lot of danger it is yeah and even if gastro can take a single grassy glide it's still so much damage right and so uh yeah colin making the adjustment he needed to really needed to come out in the set in order to cover for the gastrodon ends up being the correct adjustment here and so one of the questions i have is we haven't really seen real boom in this set so what item is it running right is it the miracle seat which allows you to get increased damage and then with miracles see do you have wood hammer as well because some sets run grassy glyph fake out high horsepower protect if you have wood hammer though that does so much damage in a gastrodon a gastron here could angle for a max guard as groudon then goes for like a heat crash onto laria boom so that's a big turn as well so uh definitely a huge critical hit there on to the zashian you know colin i think going for the double up saying okay if people talk switches out into insulin that's great for me because then i eliminate what is the most annoying pokemon for my real boom to deal with and so this is an absolutely huge turn landers is actually going to switch out despite being dynamaxx to kind of reconserve this future intimidate which is really valuable against groudon and instant work here is going to get a critical intimidate off onto the uh groudon meaning that he crashed now i would not expect to actually be able to get a 10k on to willowboo saving that landrus for later also means that the evaltol is really going to struggle in the future colin taking the opportunity to protect that rillaboom stall out the remaining turn of dynamaxx and not take damage from the heat crash on that route on that hail storm though will connect through the protect to the thriller boom does a little bit of damage we'll see a little bit more damage come out thanks to the weather being set but you know important things to note here because the hail is up on the field that heat crash is also going to be weakened uh and colin has the opportunity to go for a fake out flinch finally possibly on either of these two pokemon now as gastrodon's dynamics should have ended absolutely and um actually notably faster than the groudon here as well so you pressure both slots with a grassy glide or a high power wood hammer if you have it now what's interesting is that like evil tall is obviously the switch in right to take the grass type attack and so maybe you expect joseph to switch out now into the evil tall uh instant here as you mentioned has that fake house you can just fake out groudon and then go for a grass type attack you do have to still be a little bit wary like if you're calling do you think you can get a one-hit chao onto gastron because if not and gastro just hailstorms you for a knockout that's really scary right because then it's like how do you beat the evil tone in the end game right now right that that's the main problem because your offense is insane boom and landorus and the best bet is basically landorus rockslides but that doesn't even feel that great especially with evil having foul play if i may quote the great commentators of our past where there is a rock slide there is a way so don't rule that one out quite yet but uh you know i think that this realism is going to be the key as fake out flinching groudon gets a critical hit for being lazy there's the wood hammer he's the one who is connects and knocks out that gastrodon in a single hit that adjustment to the real of being absolutely critical for colin in this game three yeah like there's the opportunity to maybe switch out there now it's still not necessarily over right because you do get the first free switching into evil tall uh and so then the other question is you know the real boom here does a grassy glide just ko the groudon right uh the wood hammer by the way with the miracle seats such a strong combination presumably miracle seed there uh such a strong combination there to just one shot the gasher on there so joseph now is going to be down to his final two pokemon he does not have weather control but it's evil talent groudon these are both pretty you know strong pokemon the incinerator has already committed the fake out as well uh evil talk here you know has the ability to uh potentially heal up with oblivion wing as well and incinerator cannot click uh fake out at this moment right the thing is it does have to shook a very as well and that makes things tricky and if this groudon is running an assault vest like we've seen joe run in past tournaments you know that means it doesn't have access to protect so colin could very well just throw a grassy glide into that spot you know the oblivion wing isn't going to heal that much off the rilla boom as it's at such low health you know you might be able to get away with getting the knockout on this turn for groudon and then setting yourself up for a 2v1 with the landrius and the incineroar i feel like at that point in time you know oblivion wing is gonna do a nice amount of damage to that incineroar but probably not gonna be enough to knock it out in one hit at which point you just have those two hits and you hope for the best and you hope that rockslide doesn't do what it does sometimes but no grassy glide quite yet a intimidate coming out from that landorus that switch keeping colin's win condition i believe safe and sound in the back could be trying to target down that evil tall this turn oblivion wing will connect with that incineroar bringing it down to below half of its health and more importantly healing evaltol up to just over half of its health after that life warp damage connects and picks up the knockout on the incineroar wow so real boom up thing i'm not going to target the grout on here actually just switch off for the intimidate evil toe also ignores the landers saying okay well i know i can get the knockout onto incinerator with the double up there so now roller boom is able to come out you do pressure with the fake out this next term right and so what's so fun is like is it is calling gonna click fake out right because there's so many times where he just decides not to so this has been a phenomenal set honestly i think both players have made such fun plays so like really boom is such low hp at this point evil told us the potential to just you know win the game off getting a lot of oblivion wings the damage output's a little bit scary now at this point so uh the question here is if you're joseph right do you just attack with evil tall because then you risk fake out into a rock slide but then if that happens you know the gorilla boom yeah if they got onto rock slide there's also the flinch chance onto the groudon which is scary gorilla boom could just go straight for the grassy glide onto the groudon and then you could just rock slide with the landers as well um so then you got to deal with rock slide but the thing is that evil smells faster and evil being able to heal up here is a really really big deal so the big question here in this turn is like do you fake out into the evil tall do you predict the protect and then just double up onto groudon instead it's a very tough call to make and especially with iveltol having the ability to heal you would want to have that oblivion wing connect with that landorus to get the most possible health relicon protects oblivion wing connects with the landorus of that iveltol's health even closer to full lander is going for fly gonna just get out of the way for a turn and groudon's heat crash will not connect with that protecting gorilla boom yeah so i think you know joseph's saying they're okay even if you fake out into the evil tall what is landers going to do right you would rock slide to ko me but then groudon heat crash would knock out willow boom and then it's a 1v1 with groudon against uh landers t right yeah and then the grassy terrain is up as well so like earthquake actually does less damage so you expect to win that trade-off because landers is so low uh and so it's just saying i don't really need to go for the protect here because even if you knock out you vote you like you have to double up onto evil told to ko me um the the interesting thing there though is because oblivion wing actually went into the landers slot there was the opportunity for willowboom to click woodhammer into groudon and maybe that's actually enough for a one-hit ko so it's going to be grassy glide coming out onto the groudon but it is going to crucially survive here and now evil tall looking like it's in such a good spot oblivion wing will heal back up and you know landry's even if it knocks out one pokemon the other should just be able to get the knockout onto it so what a phenomenal set here yeah really coming down to the wire with these predictions at the end of the game and that's what you love to see especially with these two trainers who just have so many accomplishments under their belt you know just the neck and neck and just coming down to who makes those critical predictions gets that big damage down wow heat crash should be enough though to knock out that landers we're gonna get one more turn here but like you said that evil tall fastest pokemon on the field should be able to clean things up pretty nicely from here on out man these end game turns i mean really the whole set it was like really hard to read into what these players wanted to do because they made like a lot of just like hard switches and really hard reads right like that turned going for oblivion wing onto landorus and uh just being able to heal back up was such a big deal right like evil was always like relatively low hp in the sending game but because of oblivion wing it never actually fainted and so a part of the uh interesting thing here you know i was expecting holland to maybe drop the incineroar and that way you still have kyogre for offense kind of would obviously be amazing against groudon and evil talk here but that was an amazing set between just two amazing players and uh obviously there was that uh critical hit from the max quick once
