welcome to extra throttle house i'm thomas and i'm james and we have a main channel that we do really cool drag races and high production videos and there's like drifting and this is another channel that serves the purpose of being able to do cars that we wouldn't normally otherwise be able to slot into our schedule uh this yeah this is a different trim to a marquee that we've driven yeah it is this is the gt performance so it's a beast nope you you've been living with this i have been living with this yeah and i've been charging it at home uh with just a regular 120 volt charger which for my purposes this week has been completely adequate no complaints even though the range well ford says is 418 or something kilometers but i've been doing like it says like a hundred percent battery which you're not supposed to do by the way right like just over 300. okay it's a bit chilly at the moment though there's one a couple of days it is though i found a bit chilly in the world at times so that's the thing to take into account when you are looking you mean you don't want them to keep doing these tests on a flat road in california downhill at 24 degrees celsius and humidity yeah exactly anyway so this is a really really good value proposition it's like incredibly cheap um at 88 000 canadian well hang on because it's boasting some serious numbers and if you think about the i-pace and the ix those are all you know the ones we drove all spec above 100k so it's it's possible that they've done the mustang here thing here and it's beating those with value of performance yeah so 480 horsepower okay so mustang mark one slash bullet level yes 634 pound-feet of torque so like a much bigger torque number yeah big number but but the thing is is that it weighs over 5000 pounds as they will do yes and uh and 480 horsepower is the same horsepower as the mustang so quarter mile times you're looking at uh i can't what it is it's like 30 no it's it's 12.4 12.4 regular mustang but it would do better it would do better if it didn't have a little bit of a an ed kind of issue oh yeah yeah a five-second rule yeah this because i haven't driven this yet but i i when this came out and everyone started talking about it can only do full power for five seconds full power for five seconds and there's a few things i want to point out about the power when we get to it because i don't know this is like the halo ev for ford right now they really hyped it up what marketing is like mustang yeah but they've got the lightning coming now so they get to be like no the lighting is actually there yeah exactly anyway they're really leaning on it being a mustang and i have a few things to talk about performance anyway so this is the the perform uh the gt performance so you get the big red brake calipers right it's got some different uh 20-inch 20-inch wheels and some sticky pirelli tires i think it looks quite good i don't have any issues yeah it's a it's a fun orange it's a fun what was the color orange it's orangey this is orange this is salmon that no it's not it's yellow are you colorful that's a yellow car they call it orange something i don't know it's orangey yellow um anyway uh i i've always liked the trickery on the side with the styling in these to make it look to make it look a little bit narrower it actually works i think it's really cool i like the look of this car i don't think that it should be called a mustang before that's the top thing you read in the comments i think it should just be called a maki that's a cool name yeah right but the issue is is that when we drove the maqui before we drove the long range all-wheel drive yes and that was like how much was that one i think it was high 60s we were very impressed with that though that was a really good car i really liked it yeah the steering the chassis everything was great this but i had a few issues with it one was the seats which i'll show you in a second are fixed in this okay and uh the other was no it's just the seats um oh and the sound bar didn't work properly because it was a pre-prod yes sound system that's pretty good oh wonderful okay yeah i would like to drive because i've never driven it all right yeah that feels a lot quicker than the normal market uh yeah but not like a lot a lot you know like a lot like a little a lot though a little a little a lot quicker yeah this feels good in the corners and here's the thing this isn't the magnum ride suspension right right because it's the gt so it handles its mass very well but you absolutely cannot escape mass yeah phil's physics says that objects in motion tend to stay in motion unless they're acted upon by another force i.e the barn that you'd go into if it was slippery right there i see and i noticed this when i was driving the what was it ionic five it was snowy the day that i had it and like there's this moment you realize in a heavy eevee you go to turn and you just kind of keep going and you just and that's the moment this is happening yeah that's the moment you feel the mass well you really feel the ionic five comes pre-dented on the side so you can just return it right there so i did nothing it was yeah that was what it was um anyway that that is a thing so here's the other issue 480 horsepower this 480 okay same as a regular mustang big number except it weighs as much as a bus so and also the similarly priced mustang would be a gt500 which is 764. yeah in a drag race this would beat it in the first 10 feet and then the gt500 would fly past yeah fly past i mean so this is quick but if you go up to highway speeds like go up to like decent highway speeds where you'd be normally at the highway okay okay where we are right now for sure yeah now put your foot down here and ignore the initial bump of torque it doesn't it feels like as quick as a golf r maybe it feels certainly quick enough but listen i've always been on on of the camp that you don't need the performance trims because even though the normal ev's yeah because the performance trims first of all you're normally paying a huge premium like the plaid is the most absurd example of that where it's just 50 grand for yes one second less to 60. yeah but even then the normal trims all basically do about five seconds whether you're talking about an ev6 or an ix or an ipace and five seconds is not the same as a five seconds in an ice car where it's you have access to that talk immediately so it feels quicker than a nice car that does it in 4.5 seconds yes it does feel quicker but the thing is is that the ice car with the equivalent 0 to 60 time will likely walk it in the top end because the horsepower will take over versus the weight right oh yeah that didn't feel very uh agile did it it's big it's big here's the thing suspension feels great it handles the mass very well but i found the maki long range whatever to be more of like a dainty car it felt like it was more uh like it would float more it would it would move in a way that was like agile this it feels heavy to me this one i don't really know why i don't know what it is yeah there's something but also straight up the performance isn't good enough it's not good cutting the power after five seconds that is the thing that it does yes that is not okay it's not cool yeah so it's just not quit like we live in a world where evs are blistering face meltingly quick they're still trying to have fun with it we've still got unbrightly they're having fun with the names yeah this is a fun glossary orangey yellowy orange they call it orange they call it orange you and they are wrong it's sunburst orange yellow anyway i don't know like even in whisper mode it's quick you know the thing is is that it's beautiful to drive around town it is beautiful to drive around town it really is because evs are just better they're just better to drive yes they they cannot make up the fun factor they don't feel spirited they don't feel soulful it you if you can have if you can have a two-car solution where your daily driver is an eevee and listen this is why we were looking for me to replace an e to my car with an ev i sold my audi s4 we lived with an ioniq five we lived with an ev6 we lived with an ix yep and we came to the conclusion if you've been following that saga that because of what we do where we drive far we film with it all day and drive far home it doesn't work we would enter a situation not once a year not twice a year but 20 times a year where we're depending on a local charger and things go wrong on a cold winter's night those local chargers by the way are few and far between yeah and if you can find a fast one that isn't being used it will probably not work and it probably will not end up being a 200 kilowatt chart it'll be a 50 kilowatt so your magical 10 to 80 charge time is actually not 14 minutes it's gonna be an hour no matter what at a fast charger so so for the sake of eating they never work anyway yeah for the sake of these i've actually been dealing a long term tester x3 m40i bmw which feels like a sports car compared to this in terms of weight it does feel lighter however however credit to evs the the m40 first of all petrol's a fortune right now that's the thing absolutely a fortune and it i have to drive around the transmission it's not as easy as a single gear transmission like this speaking of single gears though here's the thing that i want you to test out for me because i've been living with this and i've driven it on the highway a lot it's got blue crews by the way hands off right hand's fully no not now he's on okay dummy you gotta put your hands in the lap like this and you're gonna stick not right now i'm sorry it's supposed to be you know what fine turn it on i thought this watches your eyes okay it does watch your eyes you have to turn it on all right it's set uh push that's always too much work is it set yeah it's set all right you can take your hands off now okay it will never shout at you yeah right you just got to make sure you keep watching the road it appears to not be working what's happening no it's working is there's just left yeah okay i was i was gonna say yeah keep your hands on the wheel oh that's not maybe because it can't see the lines yeah on the highway yeah yeah but it does still kind of bounce you a little bit it's not perfect but it's quite good but that's not the issue that i have the issue that i have is in stop and go traffic right so here's what here's what we've learned about evs on on this exact piece of road we criticized the i4 for not having the best calibrated throttle right so and we said that this was better yeah i'm getting a bad vibe from you right now yeah you are but well specifically the i4 is poopy really poopy and this is not quite as good as i remember the maki being maybe i've driven more evs now i don't know one point here's the thing now accelerate like your stop and go all right now come to a stop again oh there's some person in front of you stopping it's annoying all right now you can go feel that thing yeah all right do that one more time just for the audience they can hear it and i came on jenny there yep now you're gonna go feel the thunk yeah yeah i don't know what the thunk is but it's annoying and when you're doing stop and go it's it feels like there's slack in the driveway what's hitting what's bumping i don't know there's literally slack somewhere it doesn't make any sense also the the the meshing of the regen and the actual braking isn't quite it reminded me of the eqs where it would kind of that was the worst this is not as bad as that but we've driven evs where they are able to calibrate the the mesh of the uh regen and the normal braking perfectly so you can't tell so if i so if you go to break yeah it's not a perfectly linear pedal i could get used to it though you can but turn one pedal drive off and it's now it's different yeah i see okay so it's like a soft moment there's a hard moment yeah yeah yeah it's it's okay so what i'm hearing from you is that the perform the performance side of things doesn't really justify the price and if you could you would create your own spec that doesn't exist because i i it's such a shame that the normal one doesn't get magneride because it's really really good in this it is really good and i think that if i was gonna make my perfect maki it would be a rear-wheel drive long range so that i get the purity of the steering i don't worry about the torque factoring messing it up right and i would put these seats which are amazing yeah they're lovely actually really really i don't remember having an issue with the other one but but these are better these feel okay um yeah yeah i i spent a little bit more time in the marquee uh on that shoot day than i think you did and the seats have eventually started to bug me okay these have not done this feels really nice um so with these seats and the magneride so rear wheel drive long range these seats magneride that car doesn't exist it's the thomas mackie the thomas marquis yeah and i wouldn't change the other stuff ergonomically in here the materials feel great very very nice driving position is great this is fine i found that the apple carplay it's a lot of screen it is a lot of screen and i like the big volume i really like that great design but it's been glitchy with apple carplay wirelessly okay it keeps kicking me out has anyone perfected wireless carplay yeah yeah they have bmw in the previous generation of idrive oh bmw they have it was perfect it never didn't work in my experiences so and i own that in my m2 it is always working anyway this is a good car i don't think it's worth the money i think it's overpriced i would not get it i would get the norm it's not good enough it's not fast enough it's too much money i would get the normal marquee if you're gonna get a maki that is my professional conclusion yeah there you go yeah no i i i i get it challenge me i dare you i've got no challenge no challenge you
