2021 Keystone Cougar Half Ton 25RDS | Travel Trailer - RV Review: Camping World

comfortable seating directly across from a tv huge kitchen with a fireplace in the entertainment center king bed up front plus a beautiful rear dinette with a large window in the back folks this is the 2021 cougar half ton 25 rds [Music] and here we are folks inside the 25 rds this really is a great couple's floor plan it offers plenty of seating with the big rear dinette which also allows for excellent entertainment space as i mentioned you have seating right across from the tv in the form of a sofa or as we did here you can swap it out for the optional theater seats also because of the big slide it is a very open space here in this rear living area and one of the things i love about it is they still managed to give you a big kitchen with a ton of prep space they seamlessly blended the kitchen with the entertainment center and it just provided a great space that i think works if we take a look at the countertop itself you'll notice that it is an upgraded countertop and it has some contouring to the edges for a little more upscale look but because of the type of countertop it's like the the heated membrane or a thermofoil countertop what it allows you to do is under mount the sink so not only is that higher quality but it kind of acts like a solid surface in the fact that lets you under mount and when we do so you will see that they under mounted a beautiful double double equal bowl stainless steel sink and it's a very modern cut and what i mean by that is the corners right here are almost 90 degrees at the bottoms rather than a radius corners which you know we've seen in some of the stainless sinks of old they've gone to newer more modern cuts which actually lets you further utilize the sink because you can put like a glass all the way in the corner here and it's not going to you know because there's not that radius it's not going to naturally move to the center if you have a big radius bowl like some manufacturers still use you know the sink may be this big but your actual usable space to set anything down is right here in the center around the drain not the case at all here plus being undermounted looks nicer it lets you take something like this right got a little bit of dirt no problem you can just sweep it right into the sink nice and easily and it makes more of a flush top when you put on your covers and you'll see here you have the one side which is a perfect cutting board i always recommend flipping it over so all your knife marks are in the back that way your top side stays looking nice and pretty and then we have the drying rack on the other side but both of these of course can act as additional prep space i like the backsplash they put here as well i mean it is purely decorative because you know you can see it's behind the sink and not actually behind the cooktop but it does look nice kind of has like that uh like subway tile almost herringbone pattern uh the electrical outlet over there perfect spot for it because it is a big space so if you have a coffee maker toaster uh you know maybe even a griddle a different appliance that's a good spot there it's also worth mentioning you have the high rise kitchen faucet here it is a pull out so that way you can see it has been winterized there uh but that way it is nice and easy to wash dishes or if you have like the key rig over here you can just fill up your water base in there moving on down the counter top we get to the fury and cooktop and this is an upgraded fury and cooktop folks and not all fearing cooktops are the same this is recessed with the glass cover so again you have this as prep space if you so choose flip that up and back you can see a little more residential grading on here it's nice and thick the front one is still high output uh the knobs do light up if you like that look but more importantly for me is the fact you get a larger oven so if you're one who likes to bake you know it doesn't have to be uh you know baked goods like cupcakes or anything like that you know maybe you want to throw a casserole in right something nice and easy toss a casserole in hang out outside come back in you know a few hours or whatever um maybe not quite you know not don't be gone for like five hours or anything but uh you know just having the big oven does make it a lot easier to cook some of those bigger dishes to feed a family taking a look up top you'll see that you have big storage above the sink kind of a really cool designer glass it's almost like a basket weave they put in there it's it probably doesn't pick up very well on camera but it is uh very unique and then when we open that up you will see big storage here it's also worth noting right behind there is some additional storage um you know i i it's kind of dark in there i guess i i wish they would have put a light in there it's definitely not the end of the world i mean you know i can see what's in there but i think a light would have been pretty nice and then you can see there uh so just some more access to it from the other side moving on down a little bit further you have the microwave of course the hood with a light and a fan there and then over beyond that is the uh tv so nice big tv and as we'll see a little bit that it's like i mentioned it's directly across from the seating right where you want it i like that they they put it here and i like that they left this open for a couple reasons one it allowed for the window to let in that natural light but more importantly it gives you all this extra countertop space normally if this it's an entertainment center you know it's just kind of like a mantle to the fireplace and you can't do a whole lot with it but right here if i want to i can still cook you know i mean if you're sitting back on the dinette you know i can i can pull the tv out you know i can angle it back towards you uh you know towards you while you're while you're sitting back on the dinette hi sam um so you know so that way you can do that and i can still sit here and cook you know prepare dishes that way i'm not standing in front of the tv if you're watching a show but the fact that you know you get all this extra prep space i really do enjoy and if we drop down underneath that of course you have the entertainment center side of it which is your multimedia center with the dvd player there you'll see your usb port right up front couple usb ports here fireplace which folks not only looks nice also helps heat this space and then you have a bunch of storage down here too you have a full bank of four full extension ball bearing drawers and that's huge you know a lot of times your short drawers in a travel trailer that's not at all the case then you take a look over to this side and there's also plenty of room for a trash can and if you've seen my videos before you know that i love when manufacturers do that simply because i don't want my trash bag hanging out i want a place to store it and that is exactly what they provide me there so um before we hit the back i do want to show you this because this is a big piece of what cougar brings to the table too is the in command system and this is great for a lot of reasons one it just makes everything look a lot nicer right it's all uh right here it's all housed it's neat it's pretty you don't have all these buttons all over you don't have to worry about you know grandkids coming and moving slides out because there's a passcode on it now in case you're wondering it generally defaults to all zeros which this one does as well but right here you can see everything that you need you have a tank monitoring panel you have slide and awning control you can control your lights and one of the really cool things that's unique to the cougar is the hvac side and why i say that is not only can you you know control the thermostat which you know obviously is pretty normal for an rv but if you notice you can actually schedule your start and stop times of that ac and the reason i i find that really important or the heat or whatever but the reason that i like that is because you can access this remotely from your phone or you can have an app and so what you can do is if you have wi-fi access to your rv and this is connected to wi-fi you can actually take your phone and you can set it so if you know that you're going to be at your rv you know if you have it like setting in a seasonal lot or something you know you're going to be there on saturday say at 1 pm you can have your ac kick on at 8 o'clock that morning or if you just want to set a schedule to you know have it turn on in the morning and have it shut off at night you can do that too you don't have to worry about it it's like having a programmable thermostat at home and that's something that most rvs just don't have you know they only operate by uh by temperature on that thermostat so i think that's a really cool feature that they have built into that in command system it's an already great system that cougar has made even better specifically for the cougar line now here in the back is the big u-shaped dinette and this is a big selling point for me as well um there's some smaller travel trailers that have kind of this uh design to it where they have a big u-shaped dinette in the back that you know usually in like the the 20 to 24 foot range is where you'll find a floor plan like that and the nice thing about it is it's big it's an excellent area for everyone to sit down and you are surrounded by windows right especially if you have a really nice view out the back folks there's nothing that's uh more relaxing than sitting right here being able to look out at you know a giant body of water sipping on your morning coffee you know of course we don't have that view here but you know if you can imagine it with me uh it is a very relaxing and enjoyable experience this also drops down into a bed so if you have guests that want to stay the night you know you can just remove all the back cushions drop this table down and you have some additional sleeping space if you need to sit here and you know you're playing games you need to charge something that's not a problem you have electrical outlets usb ports on both sides it's also worth noting the side windows do open for cross ventilation so if you need to cross breeze through here you can open those up storage all across the top and then of course led lights underneath as you'd expect the other thing i like about this table folks is that this does move so you can move this right out and what you can actually do is you can move it in front of the theater seats and this table will swing down and you can create a big coffee table so um i really like this i'm gonna move these and i'll i'll demonstrate for you real quick here so go over here i'll talk about the theater seats real quick and then i'll drop it down um so the theater seats are very comfortable it's a lure brand furniture and you know you have a lot of features on here too i have lights so i can light it up i have a massage feature i can turn that on and off you also have heat so you know if you again just want to kick back relax a little bit colder you want to take the chill off turn the fireplace on turn the heat on here on the seats and you are relaxing of course both of these recline you also have usb charging ports so you can sit here and charge your device and as i mentioned directly across the way is the tv right there so you have a perfect view to it now what i was talking about with this table so if i bring it over here let's see here and there's a little lever down here and it has a little yellow switch is how you identify it but you're going to pull that and then this will swing down just like so so now what i have if i don't want to put my feet up i'd rather have a coffee table boom there it is just like that i can sit back relax have a place to put my coffee you know put some decor on there whatever watch tv hang out and then when i want to move it back i can move it back nice and easy it also swings back up like that locks right back into place it is lightweight especially for the size of the table because that's a nice big table too there folks that's another thing you fit you know four people around that table you can have everyone sitting there playing a game eating a meal together very comfortably windows in this slide too of course the light and natural light that's something that cougar does very very well they have big oversized windows a lot of manufacturers you know would have a window that comes to like here and then you know maybe to there but they have huge windows to really let in natural light and of course if you want airflow it will provide more airflow too then on this side is your fridge freezer and something that's important to note is the location of it they did a really good job during engineering because if you notice the fridge freezer here is just in front of this part of your kitchen countertop so what that means is when the slide comes in you still have access to the fridge and freezer which is pretty important i know for a lot of people and then you'll have access to the bedroom and bathroom as well from the door up front i'll show you that in just a second and then right next to the fridge freezer there folks is your pantry space nice big pantry space i think they did a good job on the color of the wood this year too you know i know a lot of people kind of go into like the off-white i think they did a good job with the accents they put in here um you know you can see that it kind of has like a little bit darker brown and just kind of brings that that whole farmhouse look home when we step into the bathroom slider door right here and take a look at this this is something that's very unique that they did with this countertop and it works and i personally really enjoy it so you'll see that you know the room itself the doorway is kind of on an angle and then they made that countertop fit that space rather than having just like a weird cutout you get actually get really good countertop space in here which i enjoy and then the sink is plenty large enough it's an under mount sink again the upgraded countertops you have an electrical outlet you get a window in here that's something again oftentimes you don't get in a bathroom is a window so you know if you need to open it up for breeze or ventilation perhaps you can open that up of course turn on the fan and get some uh airflow coming through here you'll also see the big medicine cabinet and over to the side nice big area there um the thing i like about this is if you want to like take some towels and roll them up you can set them in there vertically and then underneath same thing right i'll open that up just to kind of show you the big storage and again enough space for a trash can which i like and if you want to put your towels down there instead obviously you can certainly do that too as for toilet space i'm six foot tall i'll take a seat right here and show you porcelain bowl love that plenty of space for my shoulders as well as for my legs uh i can you know i can definitely sit here i'm not going to feel cramped at all spot for your towels right there robes if you know you're a robe person now when i step into the shower i again i'm six foot tall and i have more than enough space here especially with that skylight i could probably be six three six four still standing here without having to to bend down uh clear glass door a tri-slide glass door right there so upgraded door if i turn sideways you know it's a little snug for me i'm fairly broad shoulder but i can still stand in here no problem so it does make a easy and somewhat enjoyable showering experience and of course you have that decorative surround going all the way around there making our way into the bedroom a few more great features up here so a king-size bed folks if you're sick of you know rolling over and uh you know your your significant other breathing hot fire breath in your face you know that morning breath you don't have to worry about it here in the king bed because you have that separation you'll also see on both sides are night stands with electrical outlets and usb ports plus storage underneath you have the mirrored wardrobe on both sides storage across the top right there while we're taking a look up top it is important to note this you have a vent but more importantly this is prepped for a second ac so if you want one it's prepped and it's already pre-wired into that in command system so again you can control everything you want with that ac right there from that same in command beautiful front windshield on this unit folks not only does that look great because it certainly does we'll see that when we go outside but again it brings in a lot of light into the rv and maybe your beautiful view isn't out the back maybe it's out the front well you can wake up and you know take a look out to that big beautiful body of water and the seagulls and everything right out the front instead and the last thing well two more things i want to talk about one tv hookup will be right over there you can see it mounts on the wall hookups there on the ceiling and lastly as i mentioned earlier you do have a door into the bedroom here and the main purpose of this i mean yes if you have guests you know you can leave and enter without disturbing them but more importantly when that slide is closed you can enter this door which gives you direct access to the bathroom if you want to pull over and take a nap or if you need to pull over and use the bathroom you can just come right in here and still access the bathroom now that we've seen the inside let's take a look at some of the outside features on the 2021 keystone cougar 25 rds right up front is a power tongue jack this of course makes it a lot easier to connect and disconnect from your tow vehicle because i have to do is flip the rocker switch here to retract and extend your tongue jack and you have a light for added visibility at night in the rare event that this does fail there's also manual overrides that way you're not stuck out at your campsite right behind that are two 30-pound propane tanks with the cover so giving you the larger propane tanks that way you can stay out camping longer behind that you'll see rails for your battery as well as the battery disconnect right over to the sides that way you can turn that off and kill the draw that slow drain on your battery so if you're storing it for a period of time you're not going to go out and try to fire everything back up and have a dead battery you'll see the diamond dutch plating coming up the front protecting that front end from rocks and debris that may get thrown up by your tow vehicle then above that is the gorgeous three-quarter painted front cap with led lights inlaid you can see that beautiful window that we saw when we were inside uh it is very clean and it is very functional it looks great and again because it is painted it's very easy to clean you can clean all those bug smashes off of quite easily another great thing about it part of the climate guard system that cougar uses is they have a radiant foil barrier right up front and what that does is when that sun is beating down on this black front that radiant foil will actually reflect the heat back out keeping you nice and cool and one of the most important parts which is the bedroom if you've been camping an rv in before you know a lot of times the bedroom gets very hot and that will certainly help things keep a little bit cooler on those really hot days coming around to the side you will see um side camera prep so if you want side cameras on your rv you'll have one on this side one on the other side and it is prepped for both that way if you're traveling down the road it will help cover those blind spots on the side of the rv itself talking about the pass-through storage one you can see it's a very wide door for some of your larger items you also have a covered hinge so you don't have a bunch of rust coming down your door it's a magnetic catch and a slam latch it's a heavy duty latch too i personally really like these doors because they function very well and you use metal components instead of plastic take a look inside the pass-through so you'll notice all sorts of things we'll take a look on the other side it is a little bit smaller door but for good reason you can tell you have some different appliances and stuff there there's some control panels over there for our power stabilizer jacks as well as for the inverter prep for the otg system again i'll talk a little bit more in depth about that when we go over next door you can of course see the aluminum framing that they use throughout the cougar here and the brain system for the in command so that's going to be located here the cool thing about this folks is it gives you redundancy for whatever reason if the control panel fails you can come out here and you know again manually control the slides and the um and everything right from here so that way you're not stuck out at the campsite so it does give you uh you know a little more assurance everything's going to work the light inside the pass-through as well as the light right inside the entryway here are also uh motion sensor so if you turn those on to motion sensor you know pretty self-explanatory but you know when i go to reach in there and everything they turn on it does have a couple has two different settings you can turn them on all the time turn them off of course or turn on that motion sensor setting the power awning uh 12 volt power awning solera you'll see that it is nice and big it covers both the doorways which can be important if you know it's a light drizzle or something like that you don't have to worry about you know water dumping down on your head you will also see the um the led lights there and it is a v it's very very easily adjustable uh for the pitch so a lot of your awnings will have little pins and if you're familiar with them you know you'll see them like tables and stuff too and if you're not careful they'll rip the skin off your fingers uh that's not the case here right it's a simple pull just like that nice and easy and if you take a look at the awning you know you can see i adjusted the pitch on this one side for water runoff i can adjust the other side too if i want that way you know it adjusts it for the sun but the neat thing is even if i leave it down like this and i roll it up it'll fix itself i don't have to adjust this i'm not going to damage the awning um you know i can leave it down and roll it up and everything will be just fine for our secondary entrance we have fold out steps but they are upgraded steps you'll see that they went with the aluminum there as well as the grip tape and and i like this because you know if you do need to get in here to use the bathroom real quick uh these steps are generally easier to set up than the more heavy duty ones because you don't have to mess with legs or anything right you just pull them roll them out you're good to go and because this is a secondary one you know at times you'll be using it when you're pulling over or you know again if you just need to uh you know go directly into the bedroom so you want something that's quick and easy it's exactly what this is the aluminum again won't rust which i like and then you have the grab handle there for some excellent second or excellent control when entering or exiting the rv if you want an outside tv this is where your hookup will be for it of course electrical outlet can be used whatever else you need to power out here taking a look at the wheels and axles something that cougar has a lot of manufacturers don't use is this one has never adjust brakes that's one of those maintenance items that's often overlooked is adjusting your brakes a lot of people don't know to do it a lot people don't know how to do it and so they just don't do it and that can actually cause a lot of issues when you're you know towing and need to stop but with never adjust brakes they actually adjust themselves as you are going down the road and so again that's one less thing that you have to worry about and you know that you are towing safely a couple outside speakers are tied to that multimedia center inside again that unit is bluetooth capable so you can be right out here and still control it and then the main entrance has your upgraded steps and this of course is the more ride step above step system um you will see the big aluminum treads this is kind of cool you know they have a deal with keystone or you know right up front you know you can see the keystone rv right there just kind of a nice little touch if you will uh but very very solid folks i mean i'm you know well over 200 pounds um you know probably about two and a quarter or so and i can run up and down here no problem the steps hardly flex you can see that the legs are extendable and you have the large foldable grab handle so that way from the very first step all the way in you have that excellent control same thing when coming back out right that's another piece of it as you're coming out you have the control here coming down the steps which with a smaller grab handle you just don't get making our way back a little bit further power stabilizer jacks i don't remember if i mentioned that up front but you do have power stabilizer jacks all the way around the controls are on the off door side you'll see right here square tubular bumper with the end cap so it gives you a convenient spot to store your sewer hose mounted to that is your spare tire with the cover helping to keep that in good shape and still being very easy to access dropping down underneath that is a 300 pound uh 2-inch accessory hitch so that way if you have like um you know a big bike rack you want to take or just like a platform you can put coolers and wooden stuff on you can throw all that in there up to 300 pounds that is an awesome thing to come from a manufacturer because a lot of people don't know this but if you start welding hitches and stuff underneath the rv most of the time that will void the manufacturer's warranty because it wasn't done at the manufacturer and it is attaching directly to the frame so by doing it right here by having it come from the manufacturer your warranty will stay intact and you get the ability to carry some of those larger items behind your trailer full fully uh mounted ladder there rear mounted ladders that way you can get up onto the fully walkable roof that roof material is alpha superflex uh which is a an excellent membrane it's like a tpo blend basically and that one has an 18 year warranty on it so you know if you're concerned about uh roofing know that they 100 stand behind their product with that 18 year warranty which is phenomenal this will be your key tv multi-source controller just basically just a big name for where you plug your cable into and it will feed to all the other uh all the other tv outlets which is great because you plug cable in here and it will feed to the outside tv the bedroom tv and the inside tv you don't have to worry about you know switching anything over any kind of switchers nothing like that super simple and easy to use 50 amp power supply as you'd expect when you have a fireplace and uh that second ac prep then we make our way up front here termination will be right down there both your black and grey tank will be located there docking station for all your water inlets there this is the solar so what i want to talk about here cougar has the cougar otg system which stands for off the grid and it is prepped for several different solar options you have the external solar you can plug in right here also up on that fully walkable roof you have roof solar prep so that way you can plug in multiple different solar panels and with that it also is prepped for an inverter which if we take a look inside is what that is right there so that's your inverter prep and with that inverter it will power four outlets inside the rv you will have one in the kitchen one in the bedroom uh one in the main living area and i don't remember where the fourth one is but i do know it will power four of them in there um and so that's good that's going to be a just a great system and then of course right here are your power stabilizer jack controls and as i mentioned one will control the front two the other rear two then if you take a look over on this side this will be your other side camera
