nowhere to run nowhere to hide thanks for making me a part [Music] with caleb [Music] round number [Music] racer racertv.com are you ready to go good afternoon and welcome to round number two of the grand national cross country racing series presented by specialized an ama national championship we're here in the sands of florida palatka for round number two of the moose racing wild boar gncc well as we head into round two coming off a huge win a surprise to many folks but maybe not to himself grant baylor on the klm gas gas making a statement in round number one snagging the win and the points lead heading into round number two thad duvall who finished second just a couple weeks ago will not be racing here today in florida having a surgery just a couple days ago and will be on the mend for several days if not weeks and we'll find out more on that later and of course josh strang finishing third two weeks ago at the big buck gncc looks to rebound and capture his first win of the 2021 season will it be grant baylor returning to the podium will stu baylor finally be able to throw his name in the hat here in 2021 all that and more coming up next and of course we can't forget the xc 2 mike wikowski and craig delong two guys that went back and forth all season long last year look to do some more of the same here this season with wikowski coming off the big win in round two de long finishing second and lyndon snodgrass making his way up onto the podium with third and of course we can't forget the fmf xc3 jonathan johnson snagging the win in round one looks to repeat that performance here in round number two well the stage is set let's see what we're going to deal with as far as the track goes with our yamaha racing track description with jared bolton thanks guys once again gncc returns to the sunshine state for the wild boar gncc the thing about florida is when you come down here you're going to be dealing with sand and sand gets really really rough as weekend wears on and the other thing about florida is you're gonna have a little bit of mud as well however even with some rains leading up to this event this place has actually been pretty dry but not overly dry which puts a unique spin on it the sand is actually packed in a little tighter than it has been in the past which actually won't let things get quite as rough as it has been before but of course you still got some of the mud holes to contend with out here in the field as well if you're smart you can pick your way around those they're not deep pick your way around those the right way and you won't have any trouble as long as you follow the arrows if you try to get too far off the course some of those water holes are probably i'd say about that deep so you got to be really smart when you get out in there the rest of the course uh you know it's good good flowy trail here some tight spots some really really fast stuff beautiful beautiful facility here at wild boar make for some great racing back to you guys well thanks jared looks like we've got a gnarly sandy and palmetto field track for these guys today we're going to take a quick word from our sponsors and when we come back mr rodney tomlin will be down on the starting line with those iconic 10 second calls rocky mountain atv mc retailer distributor manufacturer product developer parts tester this is what we do but who we eyesights turn toward that first term where ricky towery finds himself and of course making his way out to the crowd he lets these riders know we are just one minute away from going gncc racing and of course with that my friends the hearts are beginning to pound a lot of anxieties with this being the second round of the season still a lot up for grabs and a lot of questions as to who is going to learned from a test tube run with us last season was my best season ever by far i won a lot of races i won the championship and it was my also my first year using arma and one of the things i noticed was just my ability to string good days together you know like especially in the summer time in florida where you're riding every day and the heat index is 108 degrees and you're doing 230s and going to the gym and bicycling and all that stuff i think in the past i've been super inconsistent day to day yeah i may have a you know good race here or you know a good day during the week there but overall i think where i improved the most was my consistency in my recovery [Music] seconds [Music] even when you're the best you never stop striving to be better the all-new from the ground up 2019 welcome back to gncc live mikey waynes alongside johnny gallagher and you've already heard from our colleague rodney tomlin down on the starting line with those iconic 10 second calls this is round two palatka florida the moose racing wild boar gncc and if you're just joining us we had the picture and picture there saw some of the leaders but we want to look at these start replays pretty uh chaotic there especially for that xc1 the specialized start recap take a look at our xc1 xc2 and fmfx c3 starting with the xc1 and a couple of guys that are hungry getting out front early ricky towery with the waving of the green flag gets us off and rolling and as our riders jockeying for position coming out in front battling was jordan ashburn and ricky russell ashburn gets it pretty clean right there on the number three uh magdalene motorsports husqvarna and ricky russell a guy coming off that sixth place finish a couple weeks ago right there in the number two spot we'll see more on those guys here in a moment and i think ricky russell actually jump out in our lead currently speaking but right there that's the start jordan ashburn wants and needs uh to be competitive a guy that i think johnny sort of that bubble rider last year um and i know that he doesn't want to be called the bubble writer this year hey i mean the bubble writer last year got him third place overall series so it definitely paid off for him you know he's got a great ride in that magnum one lubricants husky team and then we went to xc2 here mikey and uh as they jumped out ricky's waving uh we can see we got some battles going on there in our picture and picture actually our ep fuel pro row in the lower right there and then our xc2 start in the upper left hand corner and quickest out of the gate and through the first turn around the outside with the 525 of tegan temple but craig de long and liam draper snooping around that outside so we'll see who have to actually get credited with that that one was close i think rodney caught called it liam but i don't know it could have been it could have been tegan temple could have been cragged along could have been liam draper all three of them right there but uh those guys absolutely just on the hammer everybody wants to get out front here you know there's a lot of roost i mean this track the sand is just so wet so heavy and there we see that looks to be actually i think that is teagan out front uh there after a couple of turns then on the xc3 class those little 125s they were just singing there mikey there's no sound like it in the world i always say that a map tv when we do the voiceovers i get real quiet when these guys start you want to hear them and how about i believe chase colville snagging the uh the whole shot there out of the 125s with a little look over the shoulder like all right boys taking a look he was uh making a statement there earlier that's going to be a very competitive class today and we saw a lot of battles in that one uh just two weeks ago in big at big buck in uh south carolina and we expect that battle to continue on chase coldwell out front the number 707 there in second i do forget that rider's name but i know he's a local ohio guy um but uh yeah he's a product of that wexter series and not doing real well on that on that little 125. and then we went to i don't know if we have a replay of it but in the bottom right corner there we actually did see as you mentioned a passport lead right here as a matter of fact uh just a few moments ago uh coming around that that sand sweeper there jordan ashburn on the number three leading the way ricky russell the 212 uh coastal racing gas gas stocking him and then next thing you know he really threw that water and made the pass for the lead so ricky russell leading at least when they last went past our camera there it was uh second place was still uh jordan ashburn and there was a whole mess of guys that right together stu baylor yeah um the only writer that the only rider that we kind of expect right up front to be up front there and battling that was a little further back grant baylor was a little bit off the back of the train nothing to be worried about if you're a uh klm motorsports gas gas fan or grant baylor fan uh you know we know he charges late in these races but uh you know definitely seem to have lost either had an issue that first lap or lost a little pace and when i say way off the back we're talking a matter of seconds here now yeah not that he was minutes behind he was uh you know he's probably 15 20 seconds off the back of kind of that lead group the one thing i think we did miss on that start was lane michael if you guys didn't see the start elaine michael actually went down i believe in turn one uh so he's starting back in the pack so lane another guy at 523 and pro yamaha gonna have his work cut out for him today trying to work up that ex actually if you watch that replay we just had stew actually high sided but saved it right away from it so both of them pro yamahas they're a little further back than they'd probably like to be there is ricky russell leading the way on the 212 coastal racing gas gas through the monster energy mile second place rider there is jordan ashburn stew baylor now up into third so recovering he was fourth when we saw him last he's right in sight of those guys and then it is the 206 of josh toth on that red bull factory fmfktm and uh 13 mile marker that means we're about a mile from cena the freight train josh strang coming around in fifth there is ben kelly has worked his way up now and i believe that was elaine michael on that other amp yamaha right behind him and there he is so that makes about your top seven as they come by at the 13 mile marker seem here at the finish in just about a mile it's uh it's incredible this season round one was wild i don't think i'm sure there were a few folks out there that picked cran baylor to win it but the large majority we were so focused on all these other guys but to say any rider is not hungry this season is just i don't know if you heard caleb russell got the ama rider of the year award uh before this and and ama officials how many championships do you have how many wins it and caleb's like people are tired of hearing about me let's figure out who wins today that's right i thought that was pretty cool caleb always always figures out a way to just kind of like you know downplay his own success yes and i don't think he does that at all there's so johnny gerard 969 on that coastal racing gas gas out front and i'll tell you what guys keep an eye on this guy today i mean he i feel like he had fuel he feels like he has a massive uh hole to dig himself out of a point to prove today but this guy right here the points leader with the reverse plate mike winkowski you know that ain't pro yamaha he is not gonna let him go easy linda snodgrass i expect to see big things out of today the aussies just love the sand and there's an australian uh craig along there evan smith uh looked like we had a couple other riders there in between looked like liam draper was still up in there saw the 198 and here they come to the finish mikey looking good johnny gerard by the way last year finished fifth on adjusted time um pretty impressive so yeah i think you're right nails it right there as they come through the finish here we'll get the timing and scoring on it ricky russell obviously out in front on the gas gas and uh just shy of two seconds behind him is the number three of jordan ashbur and that that might be it nope stu baylor the 514 yamaha checks in in third john was also just checking in there nine second gap and toth another six seconds behind him so ricky russell free gas gas team the coastal gas gas team probably thinking all right the klm gas gas team got a win with grant it's my turn now yeah absolutely you know and i think i can tell you i talked to ricky after the race uh two weeks ago in big buck and uh he felt like he was there he felt like he had the speed i felt like just a couple of key mistakes that he made put him in a bad position and uh he ended up sixth and he was definitely not happy with that right um he felt like you know and he even made reference to the fact that you know grant's out there on a satellite team getting gas gas his first win and i think ricky wants to be the guy putting that brand up front so so far today he's the guy putting it up front all the way up front so you know if you're a gas gas fan uh you know if you're a gas gas employee you got to be happy i mean when you're winning round one and now you're here you are only lap one lap in but still anytime you're at the front of a pack like this and these guys are some heavy hitters serious competition and uh i hate ricky russell out here leading the way on the super chrysler supercross side with justin barshall winning round one a1 on the gas gas and then they come around gncc grant baylor wins it good luck to any of the dealerships out there trying to keep a gas gas on the floor yeah yeah absolutely while flying and you know the i know stew baylor has made reference via social media this is a great drone shot here this is ricky russell folks working his way through the pines and now he's working his way into the palmettos you can see the turn there and it still looks like pine trees but all those little scrub you see on the ground those are palmettos and those things hate dirt bikes well more specifically they hate wheels so what they do is when you hit one or you get near one they try to grab your wheel they try to take you andrew their bike to the ground they want to end your day um so it looks like they're just kind of be bopping through the woods here but for anybody that's not here on the premises and has never been here they are essentially riding through a bomb field right now and the slightest little miscue in their line could end up with them flat on their back wondering what happened so this is a very very in my opinion this is the most treacherous section of the race course in terms of brutal on the body brutal on the mind there's definitely some muddy sections coming up that we'll see him going through maybe if we have some drone coverage through that um or even if we don't um coming up where they're really gonna have to be cautious about picking our lines but through that section there that is that and going back the other way we'll see here in a few minutes this very similar section those are just so treacherous physically ricky russell and just look at him stretching this thing out he's just riding away from jordan ashburn yeah he's definitely putting a lot of time and look to see them kind of crunch up and get a little closer as they enter that section you talked about as a matter of fact yesterday we saw it on the atv side it was kind of interesting walker fowler was out in front of hunter hart as they got close to it looked like hunter hart was going for a pass as we found out after the race walker said no you go ahead you go through the mud holes first let's see how you do in corset i'm gonna look for the advantage just in case you mess up so look to see ricky russell slow the pace as he enters there unless he's got that perfect line uh you probably need a tape measure maybe more than a yard stick in some of those mud holes i'll tell you what i saw yesterday morning some crazy stuff uh during that morning atv race i saw a four by four michael really as a matter of fact four by four riders his bike the only thing you could see was the handlebars it was wild there's josh toe third fourth ben kelly now up to fifth so ben kelly on a charge rider that we saw uh up front and there is if you want to talk about it right he's probably most disappointed with his performance uh two weeks ago a big buck uh fifth place for him the team he made mention he said look i'm not happy with fifth the team's not happy with fifth i came here to win you know we talked about it after the race i was running a podium position late in the last lap if i could have salvaged that that would have been fine but the fact that he connected with another lapper yeah and allowing josh train to go up and take that uh third place spot he was not at all happy about that here's ricky russell through vp fuels pro row coming through all the gas gas tents pro rose getting getting big man got her double stacked this weekend and here we come you know this is that section we were just talking about they're coming into it now about the next minute minute and a half they're going to be all those water puddles that you see right here unassuming no big deal right between them really but folks what you're seeing there some of those puddles are three to four feet yet that's just no exaggeration keep in mind this is they do mud bogs here big giant lifted trucks out there and sometimes they struggle so take the uh take the dirt bike take the atv out and see how you do it and here's that section you were talking about mikey where they're going to be a little more cautious i'm sure ricky has his lines picked out you can see the oh guys running out of the way showing him where to go but man just so much as the width of an atv over can go from a perfect line you know inch or two deep to three to four feet deep you really got to hit your marks in this section so talk a little bit about the sandy sections here in florida which is pretty much the entire track but we really only race in the sand a couple times we've got this sand down here in palatka and then a little bit up in camp coker what what i mean what's your take on that i know you train down here in florida not all the guys do and this is where we're seeing them really slow down they got a roped off this there today but what's kind of your take on running down here in the florida sand what are the advantages disadvantages from a rider's perspective well it's a very different track surface than obviously we race other than camp coker you know some other tracks we have there might be some clay with some sand mixed in and there might be some sand sections uh you know down near creek or something like that but uh bike setup is different for a lot of these guys they'll run a different rear tire what they call a paddle tire or a sand tire um to get the hook in this loose sand not everybody runs them uh but most of your xc1 guys are probably running them today um they just want that bite which you know can come back to bite you in the roots because those tires just do not hook up on the roots um or stumps or any of that kind of stuff here we see xc2 coming through uh looks like ryder lafferty there in xc2 it may be the leader of xc3 actually behind him uh so it looks like ryder may have fallen back into the clutches of the next class coming through i'll have to wait and see if that is the case i can't see the number on that rider that is the number one of zach hayes the leader of the xc3 class followed by jonathan johnson uh ben nelco it looked like there and another of the xc2 rod nope that's an xc3 guy as well so we got xc2 and xc3 kind of mix themselves there together um so ryder laffy i'm sure not wanting to be back in the clutches of that he wants to be up front battling for a podium in xc2 as uh we've we're sitting here looking and we've got uh you know rodney tomlin joining us back in in the booth and we've got some action on screen we've got uh looks like some more of our xc3 guys coming through um oh looks no that's actually one of the actually two riders there can't quite get a number on him yet sunshine guys sunshine yeah the glare that's the glare so we're waiting on our later leaders here and this is where the track kind of comes back out from that palmetto one of those palmetto sections we're talking about and uh you know honestly in terms of the conditions and in terms of the surface mikey you know the sand is its own animal um we've you know we've seen what it can do um it can make heroes out of guys that have have never won a race or never been upfront before if you know going back in the day garrett edmondson you know the sandman uh he was just a florida specialist jesse ansley is one i think we should keep an eye on that xc2 class um you know it's definitely going to be i think it's going to be an exciting day and i think there may be um some surprises johnny would it would it be safe to say like uh big buck this particular track is breaking down a little differently than what we've seen break down in years past rodney you can't even imagine uh that's what i was noticing myself the moisture in the in when i say that it's not that it's anything crazy it's just unexpected um there's normally this track that the sand is soft and kind of as fast as you move it it kind of falls back into place so it's kind of this ever-evolving wishy-washy sand castle with the tide flowing in and out kind of thing where this weekend there's so much moisture in the ground because the rain leading up uh and even the little bit of rain we had yesterday the sand is staying together better it's kind of packing almost if you will and we're ending up with a lot of square edged chop where we still have the big holes but the crazy part about the holes i was just talking to somebody about this right before i came into the booth there's sections out there where you're just kind of you know to make the bra derp like noises you're just kind of across the whoops and when you fall into the wrong one right it's a swamp and it's your bike will just come to a stop and you'll go flip it over yeah i know my son he was talking he was riding the youth races this morning he said you know he got buried up to a seat you know a couple times out there was able to get out but uh you know it's kind of deceiving how deep some of those holes could get out there and how quickly they got and how much it changed from lap to lap is basically what it was uh relating to me out there and i too just noticing on screen the track seems to be breaking down a lot differently than what it has in years past and with that um that might be where these sand characteristic riders these writers that race that we call the sand specialist uh these characters might weigh in their favor and there we see is that uh there it is ricky russell leading the way getting cheered on there and you know rodney absolutely jordan ashburn not letting him go no but that hit that rider right there those both those guys are laboring that is not a pace that is them sprinting ricky russell is wanting to get away get out front get himself some breathing room and jordan ashburn does not want to let him go you can tell by the intensity both those guys are right look at the gap that they put on third when we saw him what was it was at the finish line it was eight seconds folks a lot more than eight seconds a lot more than that now this this is kind of what we were witnessing yesterday during the atv race we saw that breakaway by the front guys like that yesterday i think there were three up in the in initially became the top two here we go he's had some troubles because he had a little bit of a gap on josh toth and we saw him last night up in the thirds doing fourth uh straying in fifth and ben kelly in six so a lot of shake-ups there that may have been in those water sections our drone might have cut away just the wrong time we might have missed some chaos there this little chaos i think yeah stu was up uh up there that looked like was that toth in third right yeah toth in third stu stu fourth and then fifth was strange sixth was uh ben kelly so that was all shuffled up uh ben kelly dropped back stew dropped back toth and strang both moved up so big things you got to be excited for josh toth really the top three right now i think have got something to prove josh toth jordan ashburn and ricky russell i think all came into round one expecting to do better than they did there's our uh winner from big buck grant baylor on screen right there making up for lost time but making up for lost time no he's gonna count him out yeah don't count him out for sure but he's got to get going uh those front couple guys are starting to break away he's not even up to the next pack yet he needs to get in with that pack i believe that maybe tyler mondaglia there i think it is that's a visiting rider from canada the canadian motorcroft series that every year we're like hey who's this guy that's going real fast and uh it is oh look at that there's your leader of xc2 wow johnny he is absolutely rolling he has gotten around cory buttrick uh and he has let's see what the gap is so it looked like it was at least 36.08 that he came by so he's got 10 seconds now uh he had about that on mike watkowski when we saw him last so now it's more like 15 and that is now it's craig the longest second mike witkowski in third and then benjamin prairie that's an xc1 rider liam draper there in fourth so there's your top four in xc2 and uh we're joined in the booth by jason weigan jason right on cue here comes ricky russell leading the way i only call leaders bro that's what i do well let's let's talk about this gas gas hype boy hey uh hype and reality i'm telling you what they look really good right off the rip we're at the fmf power point ricky russell just getting his gncc legs back under him jordan ashburn real strong on his a new ride look good at the opener and when you see that number three plate obviously you know how legit he is just the question is can he maintain this speed all the way to the end and same thing with russell because that lead looks bigger than the last time i saw what's going on here yeah you were just stepped out you weren't in you just walked in but they have really pulled out a gap over the third place rider up there he is so stu bailer wasn't third now it's josh toth stew baylor back and forth and looks a little muddy there so we're making a assumption that he may have been chasing alligators in one of those holes there uh and then ben kelly has now gotten back oh whoa josh training has dropped back and lane michael has interjected himself into this battle so you know these are it's funny a lot of these guys right here three of those five that we see on screen uh have been riding together for the last two months every day putting motors just three miles from here at caleb russell's ranch russell so this is just another training day for those guys it's funny how crazy it was off the start so strang's bike didn't even fire and then by the time he gets to term one he's already passed three guys who are down including grant baylor and i believe lane michael was down with him then i saw him and lane try to hook up and work together now he's moved even further up he's gotten around stew so it is impressive actually these i think the guys are like are we gonna work together here to get to the front right now or not and then somebody gets stuck and then it's like okay you're out well you know who another rider that's a part of that you know that whole training group that they had out front ricky russell and i got to tell you ricky was not the standout this winner so and i'm not saying that in a bad way but you know there was guys that were fast day in day out you know you get the lap times you get the reports and ricky was kind of just always that kind of middle of the pack kind of guy um and even stated like hey i'm not a sand guy i just want to get through florida but he was disappointed with his race at big buck as we were just talking about there's tyler dagley right you're very familiar with that from the moto side of things corey badrick welcome back to gncc racing hanging right there with the best in the business putting that veda on tv putting that beta up front and i feel like he is a rider and that is a team that's just going to get stronger as this season is awesome to see cory b another generation doing his opening ceremonies this little guy on the handlebars and now we're in xc2 i just saw johnny gerard go by yeah and now we're up to watowski expecting a great battle in xc2 this year like we had last year gerrard correct me if i'm wrong what happened late in the race at big bucks he was up front the whole time and ended up taking i think sixth right yeah um i think it was some crashes i think uh i think he had some issues and uh he was he was very hard on himself and another xc2 oh look at that lyndon snodgrass this is a rider folks keep an eye on that 178 on that babbitt's racing monster energy kawasaki we were expecting big things out of him last year just kind of never really came to fruition had a great ride at big buck uh kind of god has got his legs under him and he's a sand specialist so you know we were just talking rodney you were just talking about that you know with having these sand specialists this guy's from australia they live eat breathe sand so i expect to see big things out of linden's not grass today tegan temple there's your hole shot taker from your whole shot winner award winner from the xc2 class and still up there running strong inside the top ten but uh yeah i mean uh johnny gerard it looks like he's on a mission right now but you know you can't sleep on mike wikowski mike rukowski looks like he is not willing to let johnny gerard get away for sure he's going to keep pushing the pace one thing to point out though those guys only eighth overall for johnny girard right now we pointed that out last week or two weeks ago these guys normally will go out and they will be in the top three or even leading the overall after a lap not this year these xc1 guys are on a mission and here we go folks here comes your leaders so pretty cool to see ricky russell getting back after it i did talk to him before the race today and he admits a huge injury last year it's going to be a little bit freeze fully where he wants to be 100 but he's going to get put to the test right now maybe the most grueling test of the season physically and he's throwing down some heaters early on same thing with ashburn can they maintain this pace hard to believe 40 minutes in i'm not even a third into this thing dude my hope is this if if ashburn can manage a win or really even a podium today he's got the number three i really hope he just channels his inner aaron blessinger from last night says do it for dave yeah somebody please tears babies do it for dale mullets mustaches we got the whole kit at daytona well here's stu and i'll tell you what a shake-up in this series i'm sure you guys have mentioned so thad you've all obviously a contender coming into this championship stallone at the opener gets second that's exactly what you want to see from thad he's now out after some serious injuries at the u.s sprint enduro so suddenly you have stu baylor i guess back in title contention despite having not finished a race yet this year and uh he's on the move that was something that really stu baylor came to us friday night we were actually filming our show openers and he's standing there and you could tell as rodney and i are talking atvs you could glance over and you could tell oh i know what stu is here to announce and it's not good oh happy and he basically said i told ampro yamaha get the bike out of the pits i don't want to see it because if it's sitting there tomorrow i'm right in it it's definitely not necessarily his decision a little reluctant but probably in the long run gonna end up being the best decision for him well uh there's one less contender to deal with as we see his brother grant coming through here but with duvall out at least for a couple of rounds hope only a couple of rounds with the ribs and back and lung issues uh that's one less guy that stu would have to jump in points but he's got to start here and he's been very strong at this florida race in the past won it before maybe today's the day but we're just getting started man how long can ricky russell and ashburn do this man they built up a big league yeah i spent some time with uh with stu prior to the big buck gncc and i had a pretty good inclination that there wasn't going to be a stew at that race and of course knowing that you know his mindset was and he was thinking about it pretty solidly after talking to the guys he said hey stu uh caleb russell did it and finished it with two rounds to go i'll just have to do it later will ricky russell be able to hang on to it here in the sands of florida stick around to find out gncc live continues after this rocky mountain head start is a head start we punish our products firsthand in our world-class laboratories and beyond because some things can't be learned from a test tube run with us last season was my best season ever by far i won a lot of races i won the championship and it was my also my first year using arma and one of the things i noticed was just my ability to string good days together you know like especially in the summertime in florida where you're riding every day and the heat index is 108 degrees and you're doing 230s and going to the gym and bicycling and all that stuff i think in the past i've been super inconsistent day to day yeah i may have a you know good race here or you know a good day during the week there but overall i think where i improved the most was my consistency in my recovery yamaha's aaron placinger grew up in the shadows of the off-road trails of the grand national cross country championship a skilled youth writer and son of racing legend scott blessinger a two-time champion of the toughest racing series in america it was expected to see the young aaron follow in the footsteps of his father to be one of the off-road greats however after earning championships as a youth racer in the 65 cc 85 cc and super mini classes he found himself longing for the motocross track where he had enjoyed many successes as well as an amateur in mx blessinger first caught the eye of the motocross world when he dominated the 250 and 450b classes at the ama amateur national motocross championship finals at loretta lynn that following year in 2014 he captured four 250cc supercross class wins as well as an arena crosswind these accomplishments helped to set the stage to him earning the 2015 supercross rookie of the year aaron won the 2018 250 ama pro motocross championship another great thing to add to aaron's story is the fact that as he was making his transition into motocross and supercross stardom he found time to visit his roots and take top amateur honor several times in 2011 and 2012. in 2013 aaron battled relentlessly with jason thomas for the xc2 pro lights class win at north carolina's famed steel creek gncc and that's this week in yamaha history stay right and welcome back to gncc live rodney tomlin along with jason weigant and of course uh mikey wayne's out and about now and also johnny gallagher joining us here in studio uh jason welcome back to cc racing nation i know you're in town for the celebrations of bike week we had the opportunity to kick it off yesterday with the youth eight actually the micro atv racing at eight a.m yesterday so and then of course supercross at daytona last night and that's part of the reason you're in town and you got to enjoy that last night and you come over today here to uh palatka to get to enjoy the wild boar gnc that's tradition man there were years where i was begging to be able to get to see bike week but definitely going to the gncc so i'm always at this race for sure uh i would have my kid race to micro uh bikes yesterday but i was a little busy at the supercross when we look back we will be back for at macon at uh or sorry washington georgia at ionia for the next race that'll be fun but anyway i'm just here to bench race gncc championship is wide open uh we thought it was unpredictable already and now we got that duval hurt and stu bailer missing a race and grant bellerin winning the opener and ricky russell with a big lead right now who knows what's going to happen rodney uh you know i i've said this a couple of times and i'm going to stay say it again and i'm going to stand firm on this this uh quite likely could be the best year ever in gncc racing there's no if ands or buts about it i know we've had those years in the past but jason i i think this is going to top them all man well certainly set up for that right now as we uh watch more contenders on the pile like we know ricky russell has speed he's back to showing it today we know jordan ashburn and speed he's showing it today pretty big gap at the end of lap one they've already checked through what we would call the barrels back in the day well leaders should be checking in here soon at the finish line we're near the finish line right here this shot coming out of the thousand acre woods or the thousand acre forest there and we'll get a good view of what's going on russell and jordan we've seen that kind of accordion thing they'll spread out they'll tighten up they'll spread out tighten up stu baylor also in the mix of things he's got josh toth josh string and ben kelly elaine michael all right there mixing it up they passed around each other made a few swaps here and there so the end of the second lap is going to be very interesting as we approach the one hour mark one third of the race nearly complete and again you know coming into this we're posting the caleb russell era that we keep talking about everyone's hungry and this is the this is what we've got we've got so many different uh possibilities for people to beat to to be winning put themselves in positions things of that nature talking with stu baylor just prior to the start of this race uh uh headed down to the starting line caught up with him there on prorow uh i asked him i said what's your your true personal assumption about this you know and basically you know he said he he intends and expects to win he says if i can't get him on on the first lap or two he says i'll lay back for a few lapses and then i'll i'll drop the hammer and he says i think i'll be able to get around him and take the win that's confidence and and that's good to know and and good to have that notably though he said the one person the one writer that he's not only worried about today for the most part but probably as much for the championship as anybody is josh strength he says he's the guy to beat for the championship this year well again we've seen some ups and downs already it's hard to believe that we've only completed one race we've already seen ups and downs for a lot of contenders but it's like you can almost count on strang anything can happen in racing but it's like you can count on him avoiding that kind of thing and just being there every week i know he wasn't even pumped necessarily on the ride at the opener his bum with lappers and everything else didn't flow but he still put it up on the podium and it's like you stack it in a year like this podium after podium johnny and who knows man he put it on the podium and you know you could tell he was as you pointed out in his post race interview you know noticeably and vocally disappointed about the fact that you know he not so much with his finish just with his ride he said i crashed more today than i did all last season was one of his quotes there were several that were not flattering of himself of the track of the day basically but you know josh is a guy he probably went home used that as motivation for training use that as motivation for kind of his mindset coming into this weekend but back to this do thing quick because let's face it stu is the story right now in so many ways and that's exactly what i was just going to say stu baylor is like a rolling circus of drama and not necessarily drama in a bad way like there's so much going on yeah ricky russell leading the way but you know stu he was in the booth with us two weeks ago you know he could not race because of that injury from the first enduro that he was on the antibiotics and the blood thinners and didn't want to take a chance and look at this he is not real man the leaders so let's talk about stu since he's on screen ben kelly coming with him ben kelly's hitch to ride that is going to be a rider to watch today as well ben kelly has hitched onto the back of stew baylor made up that gap now here's the back that get back to the 114 josh strang the writer we're just talking about mr consistent steady eddie expect him to be there at the end of the race just behind him there the 206 of josh doing well for that hand and wrist injury that he has and lane michael there right there fighting and i mean all the leaders there top six top seven um are all yeah top seven are all within you know striking distance of the lead but stu i did hiding a little something maybe coming in today you know coming back winning that that sprint enduro uh nobody kind of expected that and then i i you know for him just to come out swinging today i think he's kind of downplaying his chances to everybody saying i don't know where i stand you know i'm just gonna try and come out here literally told me in the booth and yeah and i don't i don't know he's got i know he's got some finger injuries going on i don't know what he said about that publicly well a fishing accident uh well uh i i'm not he didn't elaborate on the fact of what happened but he did say uh and he showed me you know the bandage he said that basically he says they didn't put stitches in he's cut his finger i think it's like come on stew are you serious yeah really bad he said it needed about four stitches he said but they didn't put any stitches in it for whatever reason afraid to tear open or whatever said they taped it up he says he just keeps continually taping it but uh he knows and expects that it's going to tear open as the as the race wears on today you know before our opener had you rodney and mikey waynes and myself we weighed in on racerx and what we thought was going to happen and i know after winning all those races once he got on the omaha last year as we watch ricky russell headed toward the finish on this coastal racing gas gas i know that stu was a favorite in a lot of people's mind because the end of the year so strong last year but in the back of my mind is stuff like that always happens to us too always has and a lot of times the racing always will so we've now seen two weirdo injuries and we haven't even had two races yet and it's just hard to carry that week to week and uh when you go up against someone with experience like strang who somehow is able to avoid that it's not like strong hasn't gotten hurt himself through the years but man that's just so much drama for what three weeks a lot of drama i mean from you know being the favorite coming in likely the favorite in a lot of people's minds win this gncc title winning the opening enduro but getting injured in the process yes you know i mean it's just i understand that that was so confused you know and here he is back now battling for the lead up into the third place spot wins the sprint you know yeah kind of dominated the sprint last weekend from from the times that i saw i mean caleb was close on some tests lane michael won some tests i think caleb won a few you know but stu pretty much had the lead from the start of the weekend and and pretty much right off the couch off blood thinners off antibiotics and straight to the front so you know i think he almost thrives on the the adversity strike thrives on the drama and uh i'm sure everybody is excited about it except for team manager randy hawkins he's got just like god stu could you please just you know chill a little bit make this but as long as he gets that bike to the front that's his job and and right now he's marching his way that way but the 212 coastal racing gas gas out front ricky russell leading the way and uh as we talked about a rider that was not happy with his sixth place at round one and uh what better way to redeem yourself than come out 14 days later and uh take the lead i'll tell you what this yamaha live drone is fun to watch a b it makes you want to go ride and the best part is it's not so close to the track that you see how rough it actually is it's not nearly as fun we checked out some of the woods after the start and it's like every single spot is a bump a bump another bump and another bump on top of that you don't quite see it in this drone it just looks like pristine terrain right now but i can tell you it is not well they ride it sure like it looks like that's there's no doubt man ricky really on rails right now that second lap obviously a little longer in length i think somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 miles the full course length 29 55 just under the 30 minute mark he takes a uh just over a one second lead and extends it to uh to seven seconds over jordan ashburn but i'm watching this right now and uh watching the drone coverage i still haven't really seen jordan ashburn i'm wondering if maybe ricky is starting to extend that lead a little more maybe it's kind of been a banjo and it it it seems like our rubber band uh it seems like he's better on this banjos when we go to west virginia it's been a little bit of a rubber band but it seems like ricky's better on this end of the track because that was a big swap we saw ricky stretch it out through this section last lap and it looked like he was going to get away he actually had jordan at one point probably 15 or more seconds down and then jordan was right back and stu was right with him and there's jordan and there's stu and there's ben kelly so two three four just two turns behind your leader ricky russell eight nine seconds so he hasn't really lost a lot of time but the uh looks like the intensity is about to heat up for the second place position oh yeah here comes the battle yeah baylor has got a beat on the number three it looks like and he's about to go hunting well what i was curious about johnny i asked you about this especially on the sand race which is really physically taxing uh it's impressive that come from behind charge you've already seen for example stupid and he was pretty far back early do they waste a lot of energy doing that or are they able to catch them quickly enough where it's maybe two or three percent extra expenditure and it's not going to be a big problem later well it honestly i think just depends as you said on the track and then what the pace is once they catch that group because sometimes they catch you know they'll come from 30 40 seconds back or more expend that energy catch up and then if they hit lappers and the track is tight enough the pace is slow enough then they can kind of put it in the almost get the draft if you will okay and kind of recruit regroup for a couple miles or a couple laps you know they could re kind of recharge their batteries but the problem is look at this wow ricky russell absolutely sideways coming into the coastal gas gas pits the problem is when you're at a flat out sprint and then you catch up to a pace that's even 85 90 percent of your max it's hard to recover it i see so they can do it to bridge that gap you can put that push on but then at some point you've gotta you relax for a second yeah you've got to be able to kind of and it's not almost as much physical as it is mental like you've got to be comfortable enough with the pace that you're running when you catch the group that you can kind of let yourself you know focus on your breath let your kind of let your body come to more of a zen state rather than all muscle fibers tensed up you know panic breathing push push push and that's yeah they're passing some lappers there and just monster truck in those water holes wow and uh little fun fact about florida uh somebody actually found a roughly five to six foot alligator in there on friday and uh they had uh yeah they were taking pictures with it and all kinds of stuff and um yeah i was not getting anywhere near getting autographs yeah they weren't they weren't messing with it but they were close enough to it that i was not comfortable so we're watching russell dealing with lap traffic here no this is actually ricky russell with what appears to be maybe i want to say oh actually that's what i'm saying the white bike is now ahead so ashburn is taking the lead ash prince taking the lead ricky russell in second good catch you know you gotta wonder did did ashburn pit in that pit last night oh maybe not yeah because i know oh here we're in the middle i've seen some going in and maybe some others not this was only two laps complete these guys might be able to stretch this out uh to uh an hour and a half that is kelly and that is on the right side where is the suit baylor there no that rider looks to be going too slow to be stu that was gnarly right there yeah that was that was a pass back for the same battle for second but i believe unless maybe student pit and it's due out front can we get a confirmation from the control room here i was okay all right so i i it looked like stew was gonna pit whenever uh whenever we broke away from that shot but mikey wayne's i think is down in the pit someplace mikey can you get some confirmations on some things like came with us here in just a moment on my way right now stu baylor does not get good gas mileage the baylor brothers do not they're heavy on the throttle and as they put in their own words they like their cheeseburgers um so they use a little more fuel so i'm assuming stupid but we won't know until mikey gets a confirmation and you know interestingly uh i was thinking i was wondering i thought it was kind of an early pit stop oh we just got words dude did not pit oh wow wow so maybe he's still behind this group oh he would be in front of i would think if he's behind this group and didn't pick we got problems unless he got mixed up ahead this is all guessing games we're gonna let's back that drone up go higher show us more well we know this heading into the woods right now the red bike that's still russell and i think that's still ashburn right behind him it appears that nothing changed but they did swap the position actually twice already back and then fourth wow this is where it gets interesting folks lappers they're in these sections and as we talked about a few moments ago uh you know there's palmettos all down on the ground that you can't see jason i don't know if you've ever had the opportunity to race florida um but the palmettos are angry yeah don't like this track one that was this is not the worst with palmettos i think we've got other ones that are bad yeah they're like rotten over i like bricks but they're angry bricks okay and they don't like dirt bikes they don't like people they have an attitude the orange crush seemed to be one of the if memories first i think it was okay one around one around that time frame uh that seemed to have all the palmetto uh roots and things i think river ranch even had some down there yes orange crusher i remember we did that uh behind the bar show at travis pastrana and he's like i'm thinking i'm in for three hours of sand whoops and then i'm what are these things he's like that wasn't what i signed up for this square square square slippery thing instead of fun sand whoops and just a few years ago travis pastrana came and raced here yeah at wild boar in the morning in the industry class and actually at one point was up battling with the leaders of the xc wxc class and then same thing blisters yeah i'd imagine sounds like we got mikey wayne's in the pits with an update hey thanks guys just wanted to give you some confirmation on the pit stops uh can confirm ampro yamaha stew baylor did pit jordan ashburn magdawan motorsports did not pit so he will have to next time around that's all we got for now we'll send it back to you guys in the booth well our question is by not pitting is stu ahead of that group no they said stew did pit oh he did pick okay so he would be behind okay yeah and i'm i'm seeing that yamaha and i'm thinking maybe that yamaha that we thought wasn't going fast enough for stu may have been stu for whatever reason but uh i guess we'll probably get a confirmation visually coming out of this turn right here this will be the next time we see him right here on screen so we'll know what we'll expect to see ricky russell leading the way jordan ashburn second and then we'll wait and see who we got in third it was stu able to get in and out of the pits before obviously we know ben kelly was right there they were all kind of right together so it could be ben and third it could be um we're gonna know here in just a matter of a few moments but yeah this section that they're in right now where we don't get to see them uh is is gnarly i mean they're angry palmettos and that that was by far my least favorite section of racetrack yeah so uh this might not be the most palmetto wee florida race we have but there's still plenty out there yeah yeah absolutely it's just that section the section that we know um actually both ways kind of after the finish when we watched them we saw that drone shot where they're going through the pines that just kind of look like a pine section it's not it's pines with palmettos under it um and then common after they do that big field section we just washed them in after the water where the gator hangs out um all through that section then you go back into that same thicket on the opposite side and here they come leading the way ricky russell 212 and he has stretched a little bit out on the what we think will be the number three of jordan ashburn and there he is yeah but remember ashburn did not pit so ashburn could conceivably lose more time by the time they get around to the finish but a lot can happen between now and then and then we'll try to clock what is the gap between a who is in third and b how big and is it kelly kelly wow it was three seconds at the finish line back to stu baylor in third and we're having a bit of 10 seconds between second and third now so that's two yeah and i'll tell you what guys that's the section of track where stu lost a bunch of time last lap he lost a position and time in that section so don't know if it's a bad line in the water josh strang 114 back on the charge trying to reel in stew baylor and potentially push the pace to get back up in that battle for a podium wow catches glimpse of those guys that's going to be inspiration so we can see i think josh maybe get get rolling here pretty lane michael rolling through as well solid ride for lane as well yep lane looking good so what uh this is pivotal right now if you're straying you gotta run with these guys you gotta bridge that gap you gotta go with kelly and stew and if you're kelly and stu you know you gotta get back to the leaders hats off to josh toath a rider that you know riding with an injury i believe it's a broken bone in his hand uh he he injured that gutted it out at the first enduro for some points gutted it out at the first gncc i believe 12th or 13th away valuable points and i'll be honest you know during the week he didn't even come down to ranch russell the first week he stayed home um and he came down and tried to ride at ranch russell and just said i can't do it the roots are too gnarly the you know the the bumps are too gnarly and so here we are um on race day he actually went road what we called the quad track where i was riding the one side because he was a little more less roots and less gnarly um and now here he is running in the top six i guess he is sixth or seventh um so hats off to josh toth he's got one out right now getting some valuable points hour and a six and a half minutes into this race right now guys ricky russell still out front and ashburn in the number two spot as we said some changes there kelly moving up the third fourth is uh uh baylor now strang's still back in the number five spot and uh as as great uh i mean this has been a great weekend of racing there's no doubt about it we started yesterday with the atp and of course uh we began this morning with our youth motorcycles we did have uh mikey wings uh there a moment ago but mikey whenever you get a chance to update us with that that'll be great but uh yeah uh just for folks that don't know about gncc racing if you're just tuning in or you don't keep up with it we have had a record turnout here this weekend as far as riders we had i reckon new leader and i was just going to say look how many lappers they're just one after another coming out of that palmetto thicket and now jordan ashburn has taken over lead meaning ricky russell likely had something like that happen oh what down wow well you mentioned lap traffic and uh boy we just actually saw an example of what we always hear about they always talk about this stuff ben kelly trying to sneak his way through ben kelly knocked a second have we lost ricky russell so with ashburn taking the lead and then there's taylor baylor now third we never saw russell we never saw ricky russell did we miss him there he is ricky russell all the way back to fourth oh folks it's getting wild hold on to your hats and do not leave your racer tv television screen because there is josh strang now in fifth the top five it's getting wild and the lappers are getting crazy lane marco right there in sixth hey as i and as i was saying before all this wackiness uh we you know we did some great things i recognized it yesterday with the youth atvs we had well over 100 youth atv entrants in florida we never have that we have 50 or 60. that's amazing we started out this morning with nearly 200 youth motorcycle racers and mikey waynes is standing by with our youth overall winner this morning thanks ronnie yeah down here with chase landers chase uh coming out swinging on the magna 1 motorsports uh husqvarna this morning coming off i believe a fourth place in big buck man you came out here today pretty much led from start to finish uh what was it like snagging that first overall youth win it feels amazing i've never done this before we pulled the whole shot like we never had before and rode my absolute hardest the first few laps and we actually came away with the win well chase talk to us real quick about i mean i think we know what the expectation is for yourself this year uh but what is in your own words the expectation for 2021 definitely the expectation is nothing less than a championship we've i've never won a championship but this year i'm chasing it and we're ready for it i think you are man well congratulations on the win here today check out chase landers and the rest of the crew in a weeknip from now down in georgia back to you guys thanks a lot mikey congratulations to mr landers there good to see him really stepping up there's our xc2 leader johnny gerard he is not immune to the lappers either lapper falling over kind of there grant baylor right now so grant baylor trying to hitch a ride we saw that a few moments ago looks like gerrard has caught and passed grant and grant trying to hit your ride maybe trying to get a little steam going in the in the baylor mojo to get up there and battle for a top five but he's got over a minute to make up if he wants to get up there and battle for a podium so when you see on the left side of the screen our run down here that's no longer accurate as ricky russell made a must have made a big mistake he'd been all the way back to fourth that put jordan ashbur in the lead and then ashburn got tangled with a lap rider as we go back to see craig the long here on the rockstar husky oh and a nice battle here with witowsky these guys had so many classic ones last year they're going to try to work together and get to johnny gerard and those two pushing each other they might be able to do it but man johnny draw looks like he is on a mission today and i think he's trying to prove a point we got about a little less than two hours to find out if he can actually prove that point but he's on a mission to do it right now so when they announced that coastal racing team had gotten a gas gas factory deal i got to host their team intro out there i never really hung out with johnny gerard that dude is the gnarliest of the gnarly his stories like he goes big with everything he does the injuries the drama he's kind of like stu baylor in that way he just laughs about this stuff he just shrugs his stuff off that guy big heart big determination and full send yeah he got to respect it he's got he's got one gear and and it's pinned yeah yeah i had a chance to uh do a a podcast with him on 10 seconds xc off-road cast and i got a chance to get better acquainted with him he is he is real there's no doubt about it and he is an amazing character and like you say there's a lot that we don't know about this young man yet and i think we got a lot to be surprised by and excited bye for the competition we got an arm waving down there i think we got leaders coming and there is number three of jordan ashburn leading the way and ben kelly stalking him in the distance ben kelly trying to make a move trying to get up there he is wanting a piece of the lead he's wanting to be up front that fifth oh jordan ashburn taking a look over his shoulder and saying who's back there and there he is the 5 30 factory fmf red bull ktm and they are pushing and they are starting to get away from that guy right there the 314 astute baylor but you can never count that guy out he's all hard all throttle oh ricky making a little chargeback getting a little closer potentially to uh stu baylor he's on the charge he wants back at a piece of that lead and there's josh strang so there's your top five and lane michael six so he wants a piece up into that top five lane michael wants a podium today i know that for sure life was definitely quick at the opener tommy had clutch problems there but uh speed never an issue for lane see if you can bring it home this time man i don't know really what direction this race is going to go it could go six or seven different ways exactly it's the post caleb russell here we like it wide open this is what we signed up for for 2021. no one knows there's no clear-cut views there's some speculations and guesses and every time that still get a quality education [Music] so [Music] [Music] good morning my name is jerry holcomb i've been an amsoil dealer now for 18 years i'm a retired air force member a retired federal employee and now i just sell amsoil products full time i've been involved 18 years i got involved in it because i had a harley davidson motorcycle and from there i progressed on up into the other different lines here at the gncc we're supporting the racers and amazon's always been a strong sponsor supporter of racing and it's a different products that we have for racing is the one that really dominates is our dominator this has been a product that's been around for a long time and it's a favorite of the racers and they can really tell the difference in their performance and how long they can go before they have to actually tear back into the motor and do some repairs the last few years we've come out with some new products for the racing our 10w 40 for the dirt bikes and also our 10w50 for the dirt bikes previously the racers would run our 10w 40 that we normally would have in our hondas and yamahas that's on the road another thing they've come out with in the last few years is a product called mud slingers now this is one that repels the dirt and the mud that helps it keep it from building up on the fenders and on the engine and stuff we also have a racing grease that's real popular so amsoil is really put a lot of money and time into the racing circuit even though our bread and butter is still our signature series uh that we have for cars and trucks our signature series has been proven and tested that we can go 25 000 miles or once a year all changes and we also have an xl line series that's 12 000 miles or once a year amsoil's been around since 1972 and they have proven that you can go one year 25 000 miles on regular usage of driving your vehicle now if you're doing a lot of heavy talling or running through a lot of mud and dirt of course you would change your oil more often but for the average citizen they don't do all that most truck drivers are hauling air so they can usually go for 25 000 miles or once a year and that's where amsoil really has proven their point on how good synthetic motor oil is [Music] and welcome back to tvnc live rodney collin now with johnny gallagher in studio with us again and of course want to say thanks to case being on with us we've got uh looks like mikey wayne's out and about with us still and now he's going to be sending in some reports and johnny gallagher i tell you man uh we got uh our money's worth so far and just over a little of an hour's worth of racing seen a lot of action already through that top eight in that xc1 pro class so far yeah absolutely you know it's been uh barbing in battle and those guys have been trading positions like you can't imagine ricky russell kind of has led the majority of it but honestly it's been uh been kind of a shuffle this last lap especially we saw as the lappers got thicker the positions kind of became more in question ricky was leading they came out of palmetto thicket he never showed up until fourth uh we had a new leader in jordan ashburn and then jordan ashburn's now got some heat from ben kelly josh train's kind of been steady eddie back there in fourth fifth but right now i think ben kelly's the man on the move yeah and uh you know uh watching that i i i can say right now i don't think that we're set in stone with what we got as far as the way this race is going to finish there's still a lot more to come yeah absolutely i think we're going to see position swapping and uh i hate to say it i'd love to see this five six rider battle well elaine michael back there in six i think we're gonna start to see guys as mistakes happen and and you know start guys start to fatigue pit stops are gonna play in i think we're gonna start to see guys fall off the back of the train and uh but it'd be cool to see at least a three or four rider battle going in towards the final hour of this race yeah and one rider that i am a little concerned about on the uh endurance side of things i know we've talked a lot about him but stu baylor i used to ask him i said did you get any writing in he said zero yeah so uh very little training if any i think for stu with that finger after the us sprint duro had zero to little training going into the sprint enduro after after the national enduro event and the incident that took place there so he really doesn't have a lot of bike fitness going on so that's the only thing in question for me about stu and and i guess you know he's that third hour guy so we'll see whether or not it has any uh any bad reactions because of being off the bike one thing you know about stu for sure is he's not going to give up um if we see stu start to fall off the pace lose the pace of the leaders it's gonna be because there's physically nothing left for him to give um you know it's not gonna be a situation where stu is just gonna say yeah you know this is getting too hard i'm gonna back it down and settle for a top five or a top ten uh i mean he is just all go um he's pure grit he's got a point to prove and and this is his round one you know he was in here in the booth with us and and you could kind of it was it you know rodney let's talk about that for a moment you know it was kind of an interesting experience having stu in here for round one because in the beginning you know he was jovial he was fun but you could tell there was this grind at him he wanted to be out there on the track and then as the race progressed and he claimed became clear that grant was in a position to win this race stu's focus 100 shifted to baby bros first what what they call his first official win we know he had a win uh previous but that was what he called his first actual physical win um and him you know running next to him across the finish line you know filming it with his cell phone and all that kind of stuff i mean he kind of really got into big bro mode there during the show which was cool to see yeah um but you know for the first over two hours of that show he was in here off and on and it was grinding at him and he was watching this and he didn't even have to he didn't even have to verbalize it he was thinking i should be out there i should be leading and uh battling for a win and that's what he's doing today there we go and uh you know we've been focusing a lot on that xc1 class and dipping into the xc2 and you know we're talking about johnny uh uh craig delong running in the number two spot watkowski still strong and third draper and evan smith you know one of the writers that we talked about and mentioned and you know you mentioned being a sand specialist and somebody that we thought might do well down here jesse ansley in that xc2 program class surprisingly back in ninth place in class right now he's behind the uh hilalian rider of barbosa uh who's here riding with the phoenix racing honda team yeah absolutely and a lap time of 32 29 uh over two minutes off the johnny drawers lap time so not uh you know probably not the best foot forward for uh jesse ensley still in the top ten so you know that's a step i guess kind of in the right direction from where he was at last year although i think florida last year was his one of his few top tens in in that xc2 class um but yeah a rider that that we kind of expect and would hope to see big things out of here in florida so hopefully he can kind of grind away at it but uh even if he gets up to rooney there who's only two seconds behind it's a minute and 31 up to cody barnes and seven so that's a big uh big gap to bridge right cody barnes the 99 also on the phoenix racing honda out there you know this kid you know long and lanky and uh coming uh from the midwest i know some of those tracks out there are kind of sandy and some of the trains and things uh uh in the midwest you can find some sand out there in those farmlands uh so he he might be a little more accustomed to riding santa it's just a different type of sand different kind of time reign i guess altogether but his long lankiness i kind of expect it might play in his favor today so uh he's writing seventh right now i'll be interested if he doesn't break the top five here today i'd look at his lap time a lap two he turned a 3107 which was about 15 or 20 seconds faster than lyndon snodgrass who's ahead of him right now snodgrass was only three seconds ahead of him when they came to the finish line so in theory right now i'm expecting that cody barnes has probably have not gotten around slind and he's certainly giving linda uh a lot to work with right now yeah absolutely and you know it's as you pointed out i mean cody's a tall lanky rider and and one would have a tendency to believe that that would be of help in in a rough track like this uh not just in in the ruts where he can kind of just put his feet out and stabilize himself a little easier than some of the guys but also even he's kind of got some extra suspension there on a really rough track like this weekend he can kind of use his legs to absorb some of those bumps where the other guys um you know but but then we look at it here we see another tall lanky rider who's currently out front jordan ashburn number three magnet lubricants husqvarna and hot on his heels the 5 30 on that factory red bull fmf ktm of ben kelly so there you have it one and two at the 13 mile marker working their way towards the finish there's the 5 14 of stu baylor rodney wow he's impressive i mean he's not far off the pace of those guys and you know one thing that impresses me about ben kelly uh you know we talk about him coming obviously from the northeast but i don't think that we've seen a terrain uh a condition uh or anything that ben kelly hasn't been able to overcome and be a major factor in in the racing action i mean this guy has got to be one of the most versatile riders i've ever seen in off-road racing as far as conditions uh in the terrain you know ben is a worker um ben is in talking with his trainer charlie mullins uh you know over the years charlie has said basically there's nothing he can ask ben to do that he won't do if charlie says you know if ben if charlie would walk into ben's camper at 4 30 in the morning and say hey lace up we're going to 100 mile run ben and be like okay let me let me make sure i got some good socks i mean he doesn't question things he's willing to put in the work uh but at the same time he's also he's a very skilled rider uh he's you know those new englanders they're they're terrain up there himself josh toth a lot of the guys from up that way you know they raised such a diverse variety of train you know they've got the sand of southwick but yet their their nietra races are gnarly muddy rocky look at that there's our uh campground and that's uh you can see our racer tv studio there look at the bass distance yeah look at the bass wilderness that surrounds this piece of property here on the robin plantation hogwart i mean you can tell there is a lot of woodland out there and this facility i mean uh the thousand acre woods you know they use it for riding trails and things like that four by fours and side by sides and things of that nature they've got the uh the mudding events this is just a great great park down here at hogwarts and it's perfect for dncc especially with all that wooden rain out there yeah absolutely i mean this is really a perfect facility for uh you know the florida gncc we've kind of bounced around and got a lot of different places and here we see oh wait do we have a new leader looks like we have ben kelly out front uh that is a left rider there but as they check through ashburn looking back and as we refresh kind of missed him there but uh we believe ben kelly did come through in the lead on that 5 30 yeah fmf red bull ktm out front 0.9 seconds ahead of jordan ashburn so those guys are wheeled will there is ben kelly on screen and that bright helmet on that husky behind him is jordan ashburns there you go folks there's your one and two that's the battle for the lead here at the hogwarts gncc round two and uh it does not look like these guys are letting up at all the gap back to stu baylor 26 seconds it didn't seem that far back when we were at the 13 mile it wasn't something happened there that definitely opened up yeah so uh and stu man i mean just think how much ground he's made up and then lost and made up again i mean this guy is racing two races in one almost it seems like as far as the energies he's having to spend yeah and you gotta wonder you know as you pointed out you know he felt maybe he hadn't ridden as much hadn't trained as much or you know that was kind of a summation after talking to him uh the finger injury we know about you know the the toll he mentioned to me and i don't think he was trying to keep it secret he felt that the antibiotics that he'd been on for multiple weeks would kind of affect him going forward for a few weeks until he kind of worked that all through his system he felt it would it kind of take away some stamina take away some strength um and he's been exerting a lot of energy coming from a bad start up to near the front into the top three still as far as we know uh running third but it looks like now they're pointing out to us it looks like ben kelly's starting to open up a little bit on jordan ashburn that's more than point nine seconds and uh as we watch to the right of our screen here we'll watch for the 514 yamaha that ambro yamaha of stu baylor we know it was 26 seconds at the uh the finish and i think it's going to be that or more now i'll tell you what uh the one thing that you don't want to do i think is uh let ben kelly be where he is at this point in the race he's got plenty of time to stretch things out we're approaching the hour and a half mark and uh he is a true threat there's no doubt about it johnny we got things happening on screen it looks like there's stu baylor there and third and josh strang hot on his heels so there is your third and fourth place riders just when we were talking about it steady eddie the old freight train uh coming up and starting to push and battle his way towards podium position and uh josh strange a rider that always has said if he can get out of florida with the podium he just about considers it a win you know because this place is just so brutal so many people so much emphasis on this one race uh you know and josh has said as much josh didn't come down to florida to train at all this winter he's been training at home in north carolina i know he's been to south carolina a few times and kind of moved around the state and driving distance from home but i think he's slept in his bed just about every night all winter he hasn't been coming down he said you know i we have one race in the sands of florida i don't feel the need to go down there winter's been pretty good and he kind of he kind of chuckled a little bit he said yeah winter's been pretty good i said one of the temps been he just kind of smirked and said well it's been cold but [Laughter] i'll tell you josh is joss really seems to have things going well right now he's got a great team uh lead there on the map it's online uh monster into the kawasaki team by fred andrews uh you know having that guidance there obviously that that's got to make you feel good and and just his whole family lifestyle watching him with his son maverick he's got this little thing it's a seat that bolts onto his bicycle and it's got its own handlebars that goes on the handlebars and it's called a shotgun or something like that and it is so cool to see those two out pedaling the track together well josh is pedaling but uh uh young maverick is riding and helping him choose lines and pointing lanes out for things yeah you know it's uh it's pretty cool to see these guys you know we made mention of it before with uh you know caleb russell and crew and and josh strang and uh and maverick and and thad deval and jacoby and all these guys you know these guys are premier athletes at the top of their game speaking of premier athletes top of your game there he is ben kelly leading the way starting to open up that gap even a little bit more now jordan ashburn into the pits rodney wow ashburn didn't pick the last time around so i'm sure it was a strategy they were hoping might pay some dividends for them uh but having to hit this time around had he been in the lead it wouldn't been nearly as critical but uh he does let ben kelly get that much further away and from that .988 second gap that we saw open up it's opened up another six or seven seconds it appears maybe even close to eight depending on how long that pit stop was rodney is it too early to think up stew baylor also having to come in for a pit so stu they said he did pit last lap uh oh we got some adjustments going on here that is a clutch lever they are working on something there's due visibly frustrated by the situation uh he's they're gonna make some kind of adjustments they're coming in looks like his mechanic cory mcdonald they're making some looks like the clutch lever was loose they've got it adjusted they've got it tightened up and he's back on his way wow uh you know how composed i mean i'm just going to say this right here stu baylor at times past in a circumstance and situation like that he would be on the edge of anxiety okay hurry hurry to see what he did right there you know we talked about you said he visibly is frustrated and obviously he was but after you said that he just kind of set back stretched his hands out let the guys do their thing and then he just calmly took off took it as an opportunity to take a little breather catch his breath stretch his forearms out maybe getting a little tight there with the arm pump and uh you know maybe maybe we just watched on on camera stu baylor you know last year we said oh is this the new and improved stu baylor you know he comes out he wins uh four races at the end of last season just absolutely on a tear you know is this the new stu baylor maybe what we just saw on screen was stu baylor composing himself and saying hey you know this 10 seconds whatever that may have been 15 max is not to make or break this race i need to just be calm use this time to my advantage let them do their thing and then i'm going to go back out there and i'm going to try and rip the handlebars off for a 23 year old man who baylor is probably one of the oldest souls and honestly i mean you know when you talk to stu you feel like you're talking to a very mature individual off the racetrack whether you're talking about racing whether you're talking about business politics whatever the case may be do seems to to really uh have uh you know not only uh just seems to have his thumb on the pulse of whatever is taking place in whatever circumstance situation been and and just to be able to watch him to grow and to prosper the way that he is the maturity that we're witnessing out of him is pretty cool and you know what i think is cool not only do we see that out of him but when he's got guidance from randy hawkins i think that and donnie loose from team yamaha might be two of the biggest things that have helped direct him i think slow him down and point him in in a little better direction and put him in a different and maybe better mindset for him in his career right now and ultimately you know what he's he's trying to do is is make himself not just a race winner but a championship contender and one of the writers he's going to have to go through to win that championship just on screen there we saw him the 114 and josh string doing what josh strang does you know a moment ago we saw him there he was in fourth he was getting close to stew stu comes in for a pit little adjustment and the chubby chug freight train just chugga chugs by and takes over that third place spot man we need to get some big like train horns out there before when he goes by that would be so cool but uh i mean you know they called him the freight train many years ago he's been known as the freight train but as his career wanes on it seems like he becomes more and more that freight train and that's what is really solidified and it has i guess probably throughout his whole career but with the past few years well a few years ago whenever he was a little slump because of entry or whatever the case may be he really seems to i think be stronger now in that in that regard than even he was in championship contention say eight years ago yeah i i think straying josh has has really kind of matured into his role as a human as much as as a racer you know i think he really likes being a dad being a husband uh you know he's he's got a lot of things going on in his life but at the same time he's more as passionate about dirt bikes as he's ever been so you know maybe his whole life isn't you know every single moment of every single day consumed by racing but at the same time he has the passion for it that were before it was almost it was almost so singularly focused on results and contracts and all that kind of stuff now he sees the joy which i'd like to point out his son maverick way more interested in four wheelers than he is and that's interesting josh will back me up on that uh every time he sees a four-wheeler he is just thrilled enthralled um i think cameron or maybe a family friend actually found a little four-wheeler at like a store or a swap meet somewhere and brought it home and cameron and maverick has seemingly no use for his strider in the little two wheel things he just wants the four wheels you know i'm a big fan i think he should definitely be an atv racer i think josh should have to buy a micro atv here soon so but no josh i think is has really kind of grown into that role of being a husband to father uh you know and just if you're around him now he's just kind of got this air air of happiness about us he really enjoyed himself has found a great home there at that babbitt's monster energy uh kawasaki team with fred andrews and joey maurer and uh it's a great family atmosphere they seem to be enjoying themselves and they're getting great results they are they are and uh kudos to him that's for sure if you are tuning in and tuning back in i guess i should say after uh being out for a little while you may be a little shocked and surprised as to what is going on right here our leader ricky russell has dropped back to six and here's our new leader ben kelly leading the way and uh he is continuing to open up this point well now we know no that point nine second gap that it opened up to about five or six or seven seconds with a pit add another at least 10 to that we're probably looking 15 16 seconds at least uh back to jordan ashburn and then uh josh strang has now worked his way into that third place spot and uh there is ashburn cutting across the front of the lapper there making the pass can't miss that helmet that thing is bright as anything and uh he's charging he's trying to close that gap up we'll see exactly what he's got on strength so around about 13 he popped out of view there so he's got a little over five six seven on josh right now eight uh wait and see josh strang should be the next rider we see coming in the screen on that 114 green babbitt's online monster energy kawasaki and there he is so it looks like about 20 over 20 seconds still that he has on josh string so still a solid uh solid gap but i think uh out front ben kelly's starting to open it up a little bit stu baylor not far behind that was not all that damaging was the clutch lever adjustment that we saw on screen there so he's able he's still within striking distance to strength for third and uh just not so far up the track jordan ashburn in second and ben kelly still not too far gone but i'm gonna tell you right now i think ben kelly is gonna try and break these guys right now might be a little optimistic to say we still got nearly an hour and a half to go in this race hour and 20 minutes or so um so it's going to be tough to do but i i think it's possible that if ben kelly can sprint now and break these guys this this could be the race this this is the time to do it there's no doubt about it and uh with that lead over uh ashman on the magna 1 motorsports husqvarna there's ricky russell checking and that was sixth place ryder at one point has he gotten around lane michael now lane was right there in front of us in fifth ricky and six and ricky had some hanging off his arm there looked like a vine or some some foliage some florida florida uh agriculture uh and and actually uh yeah we got ryan amancio in here spot for us and he pointed out that josh toth actually had come through ahead of uh both ricky russell and lane so toth now up to that fifth place spot we were talking about him a few moments ago there and josh toth the rider riding through injury he is actually uh really starting to kind of find his groove here now let's talk xc2 and there it is on screen uh johnny gerard leading the way on that 969 coastal racing gas gas grant baylor on the klm gas gas xc1 rider winner of round one just two weeks ago back uh barely inside the top ten currently ninth overall and uh he's he's latched onto johnny draw trying to catch a ride and this has been the struggle in some of these sections the lappers 347 riders out there today now you would think with a 14 mile race track that would spread the riders out a little more but uh with the numbers that uh you know generally we have around 200 230 in the afternoon race you know and to have uh nearly double that i guess you could say or close to it anyway with that adds a lot of extra machines on on the track and and uh this course right here nearly 14 miles in length we have seen a lot of lap traffic those guys are getting caught up in some big waves i'm sure there's like clusters of riders and then you'll see a big open area and another cluster of riders and these clusters are pretty thick yeah and and we saw it i was out there this morning for the 10am race strang there in third uh i was out there for the 10am race and there was 600 riders in the morning so you know almost twice as many and a shorter course because they had three miles less and the way they were coming through like you pointed out seems like the riders kind of they almost gravitate towards each other they get these little groups they're like well i'm comfortable riding with these guys so we're gonna kind of stick together and nobody wants to lead nobody wants to pick the bad line there's stu baylor in that fourth place spot and uh next we should see josh toth uh the 206 on that factory oh we lost our feed there but uh josh toth should be the next router we see on screen we're jumping ahead here and we'll be waiting and watching for ben kelly uh he will be coming down this very very rough you know it looks flat from here but watch the bikes as they come out you could see just the suspension compressing these guys up on the pegs standing up trying to absorb everything and imagine doing this 14 miles at least six times we will have to wait and see they have not made the call yet if we're looking at a six or a seven lap race uh it's okay six lap rates we're being told the uh our producer adam gordon telling us six laps so we are officially a little over halfway through this one rodney yeah and with that uh uh i mean it's going to be interesting to see what happens we see uh you know stu baylor still in a pretty decent position as far as maybe trying to attack uh but grant baylor is the one that i'm concerned about as far as will he be able to make up some gains like we've seen him make up in the past uh and doing that you know it it he's the guy that we always see you know charging in the last hour he's the third hour guy uh we saw that difference in uh south carolina a couple of weeks ago he was a three a three-hour guy not the three-hour guy but a three-hour guy that time if you know what i'm talking about he was in it from the word go i just wonder you know today uh after that win is he in his head right now is he is he talking to himself too much will he be able to make the push that we're traditionally used to seeing grant make late in the race it's gonna be hard i think from where he's at you know to definitely to get up to battle for a win i i think it's gonna be a little too much to ask right now given where he's he's at what he's looking at as far as his uh you know his he's just too big of a hole i feel right now but uh potentially a top five maybe could be within grasp i think he sits back in ninth place spot right now not where he wants to be after winning the opener but uh nonetheless i mean he's got to keep he's got to keep grinding he's got to keep getting every single point that he can uh to try and and do everything he possibly can yeah we're looking on the screen there that open a class i was going to ask you did you know because i you haven't said anything about it and i recognized the name but i hadn't had a chance to talk to anybody about it but former xc1 writer uh um chris bach out there in that open a class today yup he uh he actually texted me i think on wednesday and said hey oh we got hollywood with his arm up we got leaders inbound and there we go there it is there is your leader uh ben kelly coming around the outside lappers everywhere and he is trying to let those guys know hey guys there's a faster rider coming through if you could give me a little way i'll uh i'll be out of here and and leave you guys to do your thing feed off the pegs making a new line there and making it work and he is trying to sprint and get away we'll watch and see 24 25 kind of as he got to the light spot on that straight at one hour 42 minutes and 25 seconds we'll see what that gap is jordan ashburn looked like he was keeping it pretty close the last time we saw him there so we're about 15 seconds right now and there is jordan ashburn so it looks like it's going to be almost exactly 20 seconds you know i i'm gonna i'm gonna go on a limb here and say this race is done for the win it's a battle for second now i mean if he can make it stick but with three laps left two and a half laps left at least um if he continues this yeah i mean i i agree with you i think he's making his move right now he's putting it all out there there is uh string they're still pushing and still within striking distance of the win uh and uh yeah wait see we should be seeing stu baylor was just behind josh when we last saw him so it looks like josh has managed to open up that gap stu is right there so he's just kind of out of sight of strange you can probably see him in the longer section than the open stuff but he's not quite close enough and i we did not see josh toth i don't believe there uh so it looks like both or actually toth was behind those guys so he was in fifth so to be the next rider we would see if we stay on this shot followed then by lane michael and ricky russell in that sixth and seventh place spot so yeah ricky ricky i don't know what all's happened there but whatever kind of compounded from that issue where he dropped from the lead to fourth uh he's gonna he's really gonna he's gonna have to dig if he wants to get back up in there and there is uh 523 of lane michael taking over that fifth place spot well that's your top five uh we have some changes there's tote back to the sixth place position now as we are an hour and uh 35 minutes working on an hour and third actually an hour and 44 minutes into this race as we update the uh the time clock there so we're getting closer to that two hour mark in the the real tale tale of the story how's it all going to shake down can ben kelly keep this role going stick around to find out gncc live continues after this rocky mountain atv mc retailer distributor manufacturer product us and welcome back to gncc live as we roll through uh another great day and johnny i tell you you know we talk about amateurs we talk about gncc racing what it's all about we talk about these record numbers but we can obviously see there's not record numbers in those pro classes when we watch them because there's not a thousand or two thousand of those riders out there obviously they come from someplace else and it's our amateurs so we take this opportunity to do our amateur rundown as we take a look at this on a rocky mountain atvmc leaderboard we're gonna start out with that uh four stroke b lights class tai ely leading that one from the td energy racing team anthony blackburn in second levi ward is third levi self in fourth and max grant rounding out the top five in that class of the four stroke legal flights class tailey also been doing some motocross as of recently from what i understand brandon belcher leading the vet b 30 plus class josh kerry running in the number two spot michael chaney in third david espinosa is fourth and gene costa curta rounding out the top five 40 plus class uh felipe branger out of orlando leading that one with william holland back in second chad miller third michael rainey in fourth brent maynard rounding out the top five out of to know west virginia almost got the whole shot man he was right there he was battling for it no doubt about it xc1 pro classes we've been watching that one it is ben kelly out front ashburn in second baylor and uh string have switched positions now i think so that would be uh switched there but lane michael's still running back there in that number five position johnny gerard in the number one spot of the xc2 craig's along second mike wikowski in the number three spot evan smith in fourth and liam draper running strong today in that number five position here's an interesting class as well the fmfx e3 125 pro am jonathan johnson leading that one ben parsons in second zach hayes his third year race one winner chase colville back in the number four spot with max fernandez rounding out the top five open a class chase hayes leading will simon piper in the number two spot scott galler is third tyler braniff in the fourth dick hunter rounds out your top five and there's chris bach back in the number seven position of the open a class former xc1 pro rider a few years ago bubs tasha leading jojo cunningham that's kind of exciting i don't know bubs north foul mouth massachusetts could be another one of those new englanders come in to flex's muscles uh jojo running second alex luker in third trevor maylie in the number four spot uh toby cleveland leading the 158 class over sean myers james skinner in the number three spot blake yaris in the number four spot as we round out the top five with hunter smith there out of sanger texas in the 150a class the four stroke a lights class is grant davis with uh and tyler palmer running one and two right now mitch owenby in third caleb baltimore is fourth and gary inman rounds out your top five four-stroke a light spike class riders there diving into junior a b 25 plus class next it's matt modic in the number one spot with grant marriott in second matthew petrola is third timothy campbell in fourth and andrew boggs rounding out the top five and you've had a andrew smith joe marsh glenn curry ryan inman haven't seen him uh well since well i guess we saw him late last season also damon prince rounding out the uh top five in that bet a30 plus class kind of surprising to see some of those names like charlie hughes going a few guys moving up into the 30-plus class already and as surprising to see a senior a40 plus class and uh jason reigns barry mccarty barry mccarty look at that he he actually a textbook asked me if i was going to be down here working i figured he stopped by and see me but mccartney in second uh so good to see him out gustavo cardona in the number one spot of the op class jose rodriguez joshua watson miles gaskin and craig oberholzer actually says alexis north carolina from jackson ohio my hometown i've known this young man for many many years and uh lane whitmer leading the 250b class joking borgano in the number two spot cameron madison tyler martin and rodrigo claria rounding out the top five with that 250 feet class i'll make it i'll make a guess that i'm thinking queen morgano might be from the millsaps training facility there might be an international rider might be matthew hollenbach aiden myers david hognowski uh also nick barrier and hayden serena your top five in the 150 b class shout out to matthew holland back there coming from the youth race finishing second in the first one first uh second three hour race now he's leading the way we are we did these guys here four stroke b lights we've made it through all of our classes uh rodney one thing i did want to point out uh chase colville did not actually win xc3 at round one oh he did jonathan johnson won he edged him out by 26 seconds oh there was a battle down to the finish okay so jonathan johnson actually leading the way today chase coville uh was second again 26 seconds behind there uh so we've got a points battle going on there tonight we haven't really talked much about that xc3 class today we may get a chance to see him on screen but uh heck of a battle that we we do have going i think that may have been one of our leaders that just went by there i don't think it was ben kelly but it could have been uh we'll have to see that might have been some xc2 riders actually going by there on screen but uh yeah it's uh a lot of things happen and as we pointed out there with those awesome graphics that the racer tv live folks did for us uh you know so many riders out here having the opportunity to run the same track all weekend long we've got youth riders in the morning well first we start things off with our micro riders at 8am on saturday morning and then 8 45 for the you've got the micro atv and then the micro bikes then you go to the youth atv amateur atv professional atv then today we've got the youth bikes amateur bikes pro bikes and uh man it's a weekend full of racing next weekend we had em tv mtv on saturday night i think i might try to go out and give that a shot we'll see how smoke diane i raced the very first one uh in 2018 at the john penn but it was on friday uh since they switched to saturday it's just man you know getting off the track i i don't know that i'd want to jump right back on a bicycle and say hey let's go beat ourselves up for another hour again people think they're e-bikes so they're easy uh talk to ben kelly about that highest heart rates he's ever had we're racing an e-bike and uh when he tried to battle charlie mullins last year in georgia when he was on injured relief from the fmfktm team when he was recovering from uh from the injury he had down actually uh just before the season opener last year interesting and i'll tell you man the season's heating up and it's only round two right now one thing you did mention bubs tasha yeah uh he is a new england guy uh he races that uh jj series uh actually battles with ben kelly and and josh strangling those guys up there in the j days so he's a good sprinter got good speed i actually asked a couple of those guys i'm like hey like that guy battles you guys that like jade what's his deal with gncc seems like he and they're like i don't know man he's got the speed like he just needs to get it all figured out well today leading the way in that 250a class so maybe he's uh starting to find his groove starting to get it figured out no doubt and you know what's neat and interesting about this i mean a lot of unfamiliar names uh on this and a lot of uh not so familiar names as well in the top five and top ten that we generally don't see uh whether they're new riders or visiting riders here in florida with this being bike week and and you know as well as i do this brings in a lot of different folks from all over the world just to race this one event because it is part of the bike week celebrations and things of that nature um you know i interestingly you know normally there's just a small core group of the gncc nation that actually makes the trek down on the amateur side of things but man so many more the amateur riders from up in the northeast up in the north out west all over the us have made their way in as well as international riders this year absolutely right and you pointed out those international riders every year in florida we see a great contingent of riders from orlando miami uh that have friends family in puerto rico they rent bikes they buy bikes they come over just to race this gncc to race this one single uh this one single race every year they come out droves they have the matching printed shirts it looks good they're big gncc fans they're always collecting posters getting autographs taking pictures with the riders it's awesome to see while we're talking about that international flare rodney i need to touch base on something i got a lot of comments uh after the last show two weeks ago on my comments about sureco um so good some bad but like i said those are my feelings i let them out there uh i do think it's awesome that we have the international flair of both uh benjamin herrera and the xc1 class and rui barbosa and the xc2 these are world-class riders in a sprint enduro or world enduro format coming over here racing gncc i'm assuming on circo's dime i know they're both riding sure cos i believe so anyway um i know rui is um so it's it's good to see those guys here and uh we i love you know seeing the international flair and it does so much for for those guys to expose what they do to american fans and also i think it's great when they come here and race that the international fans can get a taste of gncc that maybe have never been exposed to it so it's always good when we can kind of cross pollinate and the gncc guys can go international racing and the international guys can come here and race i i think that's interesting i love it and it just shows you how much recognition the gncc gets you know we we always stake the claims uh you know uh america's number one and premier offer racing championship in the world renowned gncc series and and that it most certainly is johnny and i think it's just events like this and uh all of our events and especially the special events like snowshoe iron man where people really uh their destination type events that you know they plan for years in advance to make it to that particular event yep and you can see actually as you have your overall up there rodney 20th place overall benjamin herrera is in fact on a circle in that xc1 pro class uh rounding out the top 20 currently scoring points looks like is that ashburn so we've already had ben kelly come through leading and there is jordan ashburn there is look at this folks josh strang has got the hook into jordan ashburn he's reeling him in and stu baylor has latched back on so if you were sitting at home and you're hearing us talk about well it's still going to have the juice to go the whole way you know it's a three-hour race he's got some injured fingers he hasn't been trained in antibiotics is it just another game stu baylor plays are we going to see a late race stu baylor charge come back for a win or at least right now he's sitting in fourth but he's inches from from third in only a few seconds from second well ben kelly leading by 55 seconds at the end of lap number one as we said i knew he would we could tell he was on the shrink uh so the battle is becoming a battle for second place but as johnny pointed out and as we note from yesterday's atv race that last uh laugh i don't count your chickens before they hatch because i'll tell you anything can happen especially with the conditions that are out here today not that they're uh treacherous not that they're uh horrible but obviously they're ever changing and they are challenging but uh note with that that we've got the extra flap traffic out there and we've already seen on several different occasions these lead writers being affected by this yeah all right it's uh interesting and and we'd have to see exactly how it pans out but uh ben kelly leading the way right now depending on where jordan ashburn finished finishes it would be between ben jordan josh strang for who is the points leader if they finish the way they're running right now it would be real close so when you start playing that long game which i think is exactly what ben kelly's doing you know that fifth at round one that he was so disappointed with the team didn't seem so happy about if you back it up with a win now all of a sudden you're back in the contention and potentially even having the leaders red played after this race again depending on exactly where ashburn and strength finish because uh obviously those guys were well i want to point something out you know our question about grant baylor and hour three baylor what was uh what was the scenario for today um as we roll into hour three after hour two here grant baylor checked into the eighth place position overall by the way jonathan gerard is fifth place overall leading the xc250 pro class on time adjustments right now grant baylor is still eighth on time adjustment seventh in class now 14 seconds behind elaine michael he turned a 3101.8 lap time we'll call it a 3102 lap time just for for that sake and the 30 46 basically for ben kelly everyone else is slower than that between kelly and grant baylor back in that eighth place position uh actually ben kelly out front by himself in the lead point right now grant baylor battling through i'm sure a lot of different things right now only 16 seconds slower than ben kelly on that lap so what i have to think is we're going to see a late race push by grant baylor once again and don't be surprised to see him in a top five maybe pushing for a podium by checkers uh guys did we lose to baylor we did stu baylor has lost the draft from josh trang he is now upwards of 10 to 12 seconds behind and it looks like he may have nope that's a lap rider behind him i thought it might be company but baylor has lost some time he's got some issues now he's taking the goggles off he's hanging the goggles off his arm something happened to stu baylor in that short section there taking a look over his shoulder and folks appears to baler may be experiencing some struggles at the moment he's lost about 20 seconds in just a mile of track so he went from up there we were just talking about don't count stu baylor out he's making a charge he was inside a second now he's back and forth all alone and looking like he's experiencing some troubles well with uh obviously the relaxed riding style we're seeing him with right now and the uh goggles on the wrist uh is what's going on is he going to continue to try to race this out i mean there's a lot of questions dan he is coming to the pits so he may have i mean where he's at he's literally coming into vp fuels pro rows so he might have just been getting some fresh air knowing he was gonna stop maybe he's gonna stop for a splash of gas uh and maybe he's gonna stop and and try and get some fresh goggles so he's still not out of this but he gave up about 20 seconds to mile there so i'm guessing he may have had a tangle up with the lapper maybe got stuck in a hole just kind of lost his rhythm but uh we'll see if he can charge again there is jordan ashburn still in second place and uh just behind him josh trang the 114 uh babbitts energy or babbitt's online monster energy kawasaki team rider there uh it should be just behind ashford there we can't see him in the shot this is a great drone shot by the way though and uh there's ashford wheelie in that water and uh here comes baylor in for some goggles and he is getting a splash of fuel so probably just preparing himself for that pit there you go re uh situating himself if you will getting ready for the last hour push again though uh bike fitness is the question about stu baylor and training uh over the last few weeks with the entry from the national enduro and of course the sprint enduro as well so we got lots of questions in our minds but also lots of hopes i'm sure for stu baylor if you're a stu baylor fan but right now like i was pointing out uh grant baylor the second fastest rider on the racetrack i'm just going to tell you this right now he was uh 40 uh 39 seconds faster than jordan ashburn uh also about 20 seconds faster than josh strength strength by the way also clipped off a pretty fast lap time he was about 20 seconds faster than ashburn that last time around look at this guy right here there rodney 3105 your xc2 pro lights leader johnny gerard and that's who grant baylor's been riding with so that's likely part of lane michael on screen getting a little bit of a drink some fresh goggles and some fuel and he is on his way uh oh we got some chaos here it looks like is that ashburn i can't tell yeah i don't know who that was but they took a little bit of an iffy line there and the spectators jumped in to help them out hard to see who that is i think that may be ashburn yeah awesome hey guys give me an update for you uh grant baylor all over the rear wheel of lane michael as they exited the pits so that one's uh cooking up to be a little brew haha well we saw that one shaping up there when they checked through the finish line there was 14 and a half seconds that separated them so grant's making up time on on uh michael it looks like right now yeah and he's uh even if he can get to josh toth though there in sixth which he is only was only two seconds ahead of lane michael when we saw him last so he could potentially get to josh tother which would be fifth in xc1 but sixth overall he's still got a little bit of a row to hoe there to get to johnny gerrard uh johnny jarrar would be another roughly 30 seconds ahead there uh not not too far to make up but keep in mind he is probably physically with or near johnny gerard on the racetrack so johnny gerard just need keep within give or take a minute of of uh grant bailey last time i saw them they came through he was a couple of riders behind i don't know if they were lap traffic that was in between but i think it was uh some lap riders in between uh those two riders so uh um obviously uh you may be seeing some changes on the horizon that's that's the exciting thing about this again you know i mean i've talked about it you know i myself i still get into this mindset of okay we're we're getting into a uh a pretty much a groove and a flow and this is the way it's going to be for the day but i keep forgetting that these are different times and something is happening constantly out there not that it has it in the past but generally you could see a pattern developing by this time in the race we're not seeing that pattern here as we approach the three hour mark right now you know there really isn't there isn't a pattern in the race there isn't a pattern in the season yeah it's only two rounds but you know and even take caleb out of the equation it kind of seems like and i think this is a product of what we keep calling the post caleb russell era you know even if it wasn't like you know sure there's always going to be those people like oh caleb's got it won but at this point two rounds in i mean there was many seasons where caleb may have not even won a race yet two rounds in but still the riders were kind of starting to establish themselves as like okay these are your top two or three this is the next two or three it was kind of oh yeah not where you want to be don't know if he's stuck or maybe just taking a little rest that looks like oh i don't know if he's stuck or not it looks like he's buried but he may be just chilling out yeah what's the number on that 222 yeah it looks to be yeah he's uh he's just kind of hanging out there he's like yeah i'm done maybe this wasn't the best line i'm just gonna hang out here for a minute oh man hey that's a good place to watch the rings from though i mean whenever you have issues on the racetrack that becomes obviously the best point of view you get to see it right from the track yeah that's that's what's funny like those sections like that you know he's got a bank next to him which makes it look like he's in a lot deeper than he actually is but that sand is just so so sticky and it could be a good line one lap and then it just gets so chewed out you know he's just sunk up to his axles and he's got guys riding right by him that are fine ben kelly leading the way 5 30 fmf red bull ktm charging and 55 second was the lead at the last check-in at the scoring so 206 50 give or take we saw him kind of round that corner and uh we'll wait and see what that gap is now the rider we should see next should be the number three magna 1 lubricants husqvarna rider of jordan ashburn and then followed very very closely by the 114 babbitts energy babits online monster energy kawasaki of josh strang so there's your top three stu baylor we know was kind of up there challenging for that top three position made a little clutch adjustment and then was back in the pits this lap for a splash of fuel some fresh goggles and a drink so will that re-energize baylor and will he be able to go back after and charge back for potentially a podium position or is he gonna settle in there and even still we talked about you said you talked about it yesterday championships one on your bad day stu baylor coming back to racing after the injury he had after everything that's happened with him in the last couple of weeks if he opens up with a fourth not back there is uh jordan ashburn so that's yeah just just under a minute there and now it looks like the habits guys are giving a pip board to josh strang telling him to go go go because they know he's got only about a lap and a half left if he wants to get up there and potentially try and close that gap up on ben kelly or at the lease trying to get around uh jordan ashburn interestingly enough these guys former teammates last year ashburn under the babbitt's monster energy tent at the kawasaki semi there and this year moved over to the magna one lubricants husky team so former teammates now battling each other for a position stu baylor looking like he's charging rodney whatever his issues are looks like he's put him behind him and he's gonna try and reel in that group in front of him to get back in contention for a podium finish for the day you know his dude stew almost looks like a boxer in a ring that that takes a shot shakes it off and then comes right it's almost like a rocky bike out here going up was it you that used to call him all heart some that was like a nickname he had on the back of his pants years ago it was just all heart uh that was probably jason wagon yeah i mean whoever it was it was i mean and that's how stu bailer rides you know he rides out of his body he even at times where you know maybe he wasn't training you know maybe his nutrition wasn't what the guys that he was battling against were he just rides out of his skin for three hours and he's doing it today and you know if riding out of your skin gets him a fourth today i'd say that's a pretty darn good finish fifth place look at this josh toth has gotten back around uh we'll see i have to see where oh here we see ben kelly on screen with some more laughter it seems like every time they come into the section they've got lappers in front of them and it's a tricky little section for lappers to get out of the way yeah and if they go down there's not a lot of places to go real fast to get out of the way there's the main lines that everybody seems to be riding in as you see that lapper trying to get out of that main line so he can let ben kelly go by here comes more lap traffic and as we know a big gap back to that second place position nearly a minute to uh jordan ashburn when they came through the finish line there a few moments ago so this will be interesting and again to watch and see what josh strang is going to do he was as close as 7.3 seconds back of ashburn uh lap times indicating that he was about 21 seconds faster so uh that that battle should get interesting uh here in this uh now i guess would be fifth lap of the sixth lapse of racing half today yeah they're working on lap five they're about not quite halfway through there i did just see jordan ashburn's helmet there it is he's popping out of the palmettos and uh right behind him kawasaki and josh strength not giving up on him josh train gonna keep the pressure on aspirin again we pointed out these guys former teammates just you know just a few months ago these guys were battling under the same tent and uh right now josh drank got the kylie ride jordan ashford trying to say man that should have been my rod and string trying to say no no man this is why i'm still under the copy tent so it's a little bit of flex in between these two but i do know they get along great great friends off the track and uh much respect for each other so those guys will keep it clean and who knows maybe they can push each other and start trying to start to tighten that gap up to ben kelly but that gap is growing at the moment yeah you know i i didn't know i i don't know what happened uh you know obviously what directions these teams and things are going in but i almost have to think you know you think oh well jordan's not with the babbitt's online anymore that's probably not a good thing stu is absolutely soaked look at him rodney yeah it looks like he's gone down in some water but i i just make as quick uh jordan ashford messing with the husqvarna and this magnum one motorsports team very quickly and i think the first two rounds are pretty good indication of that yeah absolutely i mean he's been he's been rock solid you know and and jordan's always rock solid i mean that's how you know last time boys got number three yeah and and we talked about that earlier like jordan being the guy in the bubble the overlooked guy the overlooked guy on the bubble finished number three for the year last year you know and and correct me if i'm wrong but i don't know that he had a podium or if he i it wasn't many yeah i don't i don't think there was any last year he had so many that were so close josh strang nipped him out right at the end on a few there was a few other guys that nipped him and he was right there but he ended up number three for the year like he was always that five six guy and with the ups and downs look at this grant baylor is now closed up on josh toth and grant baylor hunting him he is stalking him the third hour grant baylor has come out because why we're in the third hour grizzly yeah how do i be hunted by greece no don't want to be hunted by a grizzly i i had a great conversation with grant post that uh win uh over grizzly acres man i'll tell you this kid there's elaine michael by the way ricky russell also ricky russell was just ahead okay michael so ricky has actually made the pass on lean as well yeah and and just to know right now uh the mindset that uh uh grant baylor is in and how comfortable uh you know and and he was shocked and surprised happy uh but you know he wasn't overthinking things at the same time you know i mean he he's he's got this all uh he's one of the most realistic guys uh i think there are out there you know i mean he and both stu is realistic though sometimes stu does get a little bit out there on the limb making some big claims and they can be that's because he likes the drama he loves to start the pot but the thing about it is often times stu can back up we gotta we gotta arm up which means we got a rider coming and that rider is the 530 of ben kelly making that rough florida straightaway look like smooth as the back stretch it at daytona that uh rodney you're heading over there to do some super cross and atv motocross announcing here in the next couple days that's what ben kelly looks like he looks like he's just trucking his way around the big bank corners at daytona that big 350 ktm interesting to note ben kelly last year wrote a 450 all year this year back on the 350. uh he's given from from what i understand i'm not putting words in his or anyone else's mouth there he was given both bikes last year which one do you like better make a choice you know within a reasonable amount of time before round one but once you make that choice that's your bike for the year last year he chose the big girl he chose the 450 wrote it well didn't grant him it you know didn't quite grab the wins that we were expecting out of him last year uh but stu baylor kind of came in and ruined everybody's party after the break and then now this year he rode both spent some time down here and said nope i think the 350 is the bike for me and uh right now it's looking like the bike for the day yep and you know uh that's that's interesting you say you got stupid there's a second place coming in still jordan ashburn with that lap traffic ride on his rear wheel still his former teammate the freight train josh strang back there in the number three spot rodney what do you think you think we should request that jordan ashburn has to wear this helmet every race i think so it really helps identify that's that's for sure oh strength just means he took a look back to see if he ran that guy's head over that was close man yeah and that's it and again that's how quickly things can happen i mean if that would have been a split second different the way that unfolded there i mean uh we could have seen uh uh josh strain taken out of that race at least for a little bit well we saw it with earlier in the race we saw when uh uh jordan ashburn kind of inherited the lead after we still don't know exactly what happened with ricky russell there but ashburn oh there there's our buddy getting winched out yeah ryan eckles jordan or uh jeff russell there they got the the winches on the front of those machines and they're giving him a yank i think that's devin bodkin from the open b class out of vanderbilt pennsylvania by the way here is stu baylor making sure he doesn't get stuck he's he's taking the main line through the water there but uh yeah we saw that earlier with jordan ashburn connecting with the left rider in the monster mile fmf powerpoint hard to know which one's which but they're kind of all connected there and uh they connected with that left rider went over the bars and and lost a good bit of time there so it's uh the battle rage is on the battle does rage on ben kelly continues to lead jordan ashburn josh strange in third du baylor in fourth and on time adjustment jonathan jarrar rounds out your top five and ben kelly hang on to it how's this battle for second gonna shape up stick around to find out gncc live continues after this last season was my best season ever by far i won a lot of races i won the championship and it was my also my first year using arma and one of the things i noticed was just my ability to string good days together you know like especially in the summer time in florida where you're riding every day and the heat index is 108 degrees and you're doing 230s then going to the gym and bicycling and all that stuff i think in the past i've been super inconsistent day to day yeah i may have a you know good race here or you know a good day during the week there but overall i think where i improved the most was my consistency in my recovery [Music] seconds [Music] [Music] even the uh early morning micro bikes and the cool thing about this one is we have a lot of legacies out there remington's son race is out there who's one of our amateur riders in the afternoon caleb russell son charlie mullins his son races out there and i think actually dax mullins is actually the one that took the win and we caught up with our winner at the end of our micro race my name is beau garretson uh i got i got i got the whole shot and then hunter got around me in some of the mud and then he pulled him out on me and i was like okay i gotta go so then i put my head down in charge and i got around them and um on the box number one yeah it's pretty muddy and kids will not get out of the way uh g2 sam uh sam at g2 uh my dad my mom my brother factory connection fhk and moose racing and twin air wow beau garrix and i tell you that kid has really got a future if nothing else on a microphone as much on a motorcycle kid was lightning fast but as we were talking there a few moments ago i think uh we're talking about the mullins class that was a pretty interesting little battle those kids have but uh there the overall was pretty cool as well we're picking up the action our leaders that's third place rider or fourth place writer stu uh baylor there on the 514 still trying to bridge that gap back up to the 114 of josh strang who is third place ride the freight train who was that last check right on the rear wheel basically of jordan ashburn uh seemed to be uh catching up falling back catching up falling back the only rider right now in my opinion that may seem a little bit comfortable and i don't know how comfortable he is trying to push through flap traffic right now would be your leader ben kelly like we said you know he's not real sure what's going on behind him he's pushing he's still trying to push through the lap riders rodney let me tell you something ben kelly and i understand what you're saying it's in terms of a gap but as far as comfortable he's not comfortable right now he's taking a beating out there he's doing everything in his power grant baylor has gotten around josh toth he's made that pass we know that is for the uh that is for the fifth place in xc1 class and sixth overall so we saw him he's back in that ninth place overall spot now up to sixth what this is for grant baylor is points that's so many that's three valuable points in that championship he was the points leader coming into today grant baylor with the win 30 points today sixth place that sixth place would score him uh would be a total of 15 points he would score for six plays versus ninth place would be only 12. so that's three championship points that he's earned by making those three passes and he's still got the potential to catch a couple guys in front of him we don't know what the gap is between him and johnny gerard so we could see him potentially leapfrogged gerrard which would move him up to fifth and then the next rider in front of him would be his brother stu baylor but that is a big gap at this point with just a lap left but you know with the next time we see these guys rodney there's gonna be a white flag waving and with the track conditions out there the stress levels these guys are experiencing that is going to be a very very welcome white flag well we're about four minutes out from seeing uh ben kelly scheduled to check in as joined in booth with uh on the pipe podcast host mr tyler shepherdson uh t chef good to have you in the studio with us i know you've been out paying particularly close attention to uh these uh first two rounds of racing and so forth and uh man uh already i mean we keep talking about the surprises and the craziness of this season then you know you can have your ideas of who's who and what's what but it's exactly what i think everybody expected it's it's a scramble up front right now oh it absolutely is rodney and i think one thing to point out that whatever the running order is now whatever it's been throughout the race that is all subject to change i mean i've been out on the track riding around trying to get some shots here and there and it seems like every single time they come around to one of these bad sections especially i mean every line is different someone might be stuck in the line that you've been going through so even though they're all running out front now with all these lappers and with this track that they're out there racing on it can change at any moment and i have to i have to think uh especially with the number of riders out there in this particular event and after uh you know we already had a rough racetrack but this track is constantly changing right now i'm sure that it's different from lap to left yeah yeah and that's one of the main things that we were noticing so obviously uh teams out in the woods kind of providing updates and all that but you see lines are changing every single time so where the middle line might be the good one this one you come around the next time around and it's the left line and then like i said you come around that time and someone's stuck in that line johnny you from a racer's perspective i mean how much different is this track as opposed to other tracks as as far as the drastic changes you see from flap to lap uh normally not so bad um honestly it's kind of more a change from when we pedal it on friday to when we raced it on saturday afternoon but yesterday it was changing dramatically as the race went on uh you know it's just like we talked about there's so much moisture in the sand there's so many bogs and soft spots and even in the pines which are normally just kind of you know they chew down to a certain point then you hit somewhat of a hard bottom you kind of get to the roots and you stop digging but uh this weekend that's not the case the ground is just you know the water is almost pumping up out of the ground and like tyler said i mean the the race lines the good lines are changing every single lap and we've seen it i saw this morning in the morning race uh was actually watching as you see ben kelly on screen and he is getting very close now this is the 13 mile marker so he's got roughly one mile to go until he's at the finish line with a white flag waving and as i said a moment ago welcome welcome white flag he's gonna wanna he's gonna want to continue to sprint but i think once they give him that gap of of what looks to be over a minute i would think he's probably gonna try to keep a heavy a heavy throttle hand and keep the pace but at the same time maybe take a few less chances and lappers um but in terms of those lines changing actually this morning during that 10am race so much was changing we were trying to get from spot to spot to spot as the the riders were making their way through and uh at the roughly the five mile marker so halfway through in the last lap uh becca sheets was leading i gave her some lines she got through everything was great waited there made sure rachel archer got through and it was roughly maybe a 35 to 40 second gap and uh literally 20 seconds later i go up the trail and i run into some people and they're like becca buried it and i'm like where like we were at the only mud hole and they said no no there's a new one and it was a section attracted a half hour earlier was totally unassuming it was it was just flat palmettos with some dirt in between but from you know as we pointed out almost 600 riders this morning digging it out 340 i believe you said this afternoon so a section that is it can catch even the riders off guard jordan ashburn on screen there is your second place rider you know these guys they think the line is good and they commit to it and once you commit you know sometimes you have no choice but to just hammer it and try and make it through all right and straight's still not too far off the pace there but you know i have to wonder you know mud i know is is a very physically demanding uh uh condition to ride in these can and sand can be too is this sand more demanding physically than normal and is it more demanding than riding in a mud race um i mean i think the the riders probably would be from a bike standpoint would be far more versed in answering that question from an atv standpoint um i i can only speak for myself personally i only had the opportunity to talk to a few guys after the race yesterday most everybody i talked to said the track was brutal um i kind of just mismanaged my energy i guess you would say the first lap i convinced myself that the track was so bad my lower back was tightening up i was like all right i gotta pace myself and i did that and then i didn't get a two-lap card so i thought it was gonna be a five-lap race i paced myself for a five-lap race picked it up at the end but it was too little too late and not this is just me kind of not patting myself on the back but insulting myself completely mismanaged my race to the point where today i don't feel like i raced so i didn't go hard enough thinking that it was going to be a five lap race and in my head i made the track out to be rougher than it was um but you know some of these guys i think are gonna come in completely depleted if they're pushing there's grant baylor and he's i don't think he's got enough time left to bridge that gap just do but he is absolutely chipping away at it for sure that's for sure uh if we look back at it a lap ago at the end of the last lap we start adding up times here he was somewhere in the neighborhood of about 20 25 seconds physically behind stu and uh i think that that gap is starting to bridge a little bit to be honest with you and now we see josh ho right on his heels trying to close that gap himself and rodney to your point i think in the in the deep sand and in the mud the riders are fighting their bikes a lot one thing about the sand though it may sound a little counterproductive but it seems like the faster you go the easier it is to manage your bike and that's what whoops out these sections so bud you're fighting your bike sand you're fighting your bike but it seems like in these sand races you're doing about two thousand squats on your way around the range that kind of makes sense too i guess uh and it probably depends on the rider and how you attack it ben kelly threw by the way for five laps complete uh as uh 31-10 lap time for him jordan ashburn turning a 31-31 a minute and 16 seconds back ronnie just quick quick did you say i i'm not sure if we're looking at the elapsed time here grant was actually a minute and 21 seconds behind oh okay at the end of the previous slide now he's probably about 25 seconds right so he's made up about a minute on stu in that last lap okay again there is a laptop i'm sure they're going to give i'm sure at some point you i think you might have been looking at laptops so they're probably going to give stu a board that says hey baby bro is coming but at this point i got to believe everything stu has he's giving because even though he's fallen off the back he knows the next position in front of him is a podium and he badly wants to be on the podium so i'm sure he's given it all he has so it's not out of the question to think that that grant baylor could ride himself up to into a fourth place spot uh you know he's he's got you know we're going to see here at the finish line as they come in it should be very very soon here but we think that that he may be inside of 30 seconds and and last lap that was a minute 20. so he's made up somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 seconds to a minute on big bro this lap josh strength 5.8 seconds behind jordan ashburn 27.6 seconds back to stu baylor in that number four spot as we wait for our fifth place position there's grant baylor in 47 seconds behind uh and but he's turning about a 25 second faster left that's not going to be enough to bridge that gap unless stu does slow down a little more on this particular lap to get to that fourth place position uh we're not out of the realm of possibility for that yet i don't believe well this guy right here is trying to put things out of the realm of possibility for anyone else to win this race one minute 16 seconds is the lead for the 5 30 of ben kelly very very unhappy with his performance at big buck we've talked about it already but uh he said he felt like he let himself down he felt like he let the team down he even made reference to the fact we talked so much about it but how can you not eight championships caleb russell not racing with us one thing that maybe we haven't talked about that ben kelly for the first time at big buck felt that pressure after the race he didn't even realize it before the race after the race when the team was looking at him with a fifth place finish as being the top finishing ktm rider he was like i let the team down caleb's not here to be the guy which means either josh or i have to be the guy and today since i was you know josh was hurt i was expected to be the guy carrying the ktm flag and fifth place is not what ktm pays me for well here's a question to ponder on how would you like to be the writer that was the next number one guy on the team following in the footsteps of caleb russell that would be tough it would take a couple of writers to get things back to reality i think but i tell you what if there is a guy that could potentially carry that weight on his shoulders physically and emotionally ben kelly's a strong dude i mean he is just um i didn't realize he's 200 pounds really got on the scale the other day at the ranch and and we were kind of joking i said oh you guys don't know about the clydesdale club like i'm close to 200 pounds ben's heavier than i am wow i was 194 ben was like 199. wow so i mean he's a big boy you would never think it because he looks you know he's real tall and thin but he is a mountain of a man and uh he's he's trying to carry that that austrian brand on his shoulders look how close string is to uh how close he was to getting stuck there yeah i was gonna say that'll change real quick i guess that's how that's how those gaps uh kind of accordion like that i guess is wrong uh choice of uh those inside lines or outside lines which kind of wiggle it to get going again um and then another time same similar situation with the left rider there was actually a left rider stopped in the trail and he couldn't get going and i couldn't get around so i had to just kind of push him to uh to get going so yeah the sand the moisture in the sand has made it a different animal yeah that's i was one i mean because it looked like there were train tracks it was hard to ride out of the line you know oftentimes sometimes you can switch up 15 or three or four inches here three or four inches there six inches to the left to six inches to the right right kind of a different line you couldn't do that yesterday that was costly for josh strang he was right on jordan ashburn's rear wheel coming into that section that left rider got in front of him did not move out of his way and it cost him a good eight to ten bike lengths there that now he has to try and grind back and uh that really is the tail of the tape at this point this is the most exciting battle on the track by far yep josh whoa whoa whoa is this stew it is stu baylor mounting a charge starting to get back a little back up closer to that battle for second and third i don't know he's got quite enough time to get back especially not when he's getting hung up behind lappers that looks like braden ollette one of the uh i believe either 258 or four stroke a lights riders uh there in front of him one of those trail gestures riders same thing you see how one line that is through there just the berms are built up so much that i mean if you get stuck behind somebody in there it's a roller coaster there's no pass until you get out of that there's we saw it uh catch up string and stew and then also our xc2 battle for second place is really heating up too evan smith coming out of nowhere he's running in second place in that xe2 class um so good catch there didn't even see that here is grant so grant still not quite close enough to make a move on stew he's probably in that 30 to 35 second range i think stu knows he's coming now stu is going to give it everything he's got just to point out we haven't checked in with the xc2 for a lapper so uh evan smith is up to second like you pointed out is 216 behind johnny g the other johnny g but mike watkowski right behind him as he pointed out with craig delong surprisingly dropping back to that fourth place but still only another one second yeah so you got the two two minutes and 16 seconds is the lead for johnny draw 1.3 seconds back behind evan smith is mike wikowski in third and craig along 1.9 seconds back so basically 2 3 4 you could throw a blanket over yeah and just from being out on the track throughout the whole beginning part of this race johnny gerard kind of worked his way into the xc1 very quick he's been riding physically with grant baylor most of the day as we've been able to see on camera here but that xc2 battle just as you mentioned oh it looks like ricky russell snagging a root and going down but yeah in that xc2 class it's been evan smith michael kelsey and craig delong every single time they've come around the track you could throw a net over all of them just which order they're going to be in has changed throughout the day and same thing with that xc3 battle the xc3 battle for first has been very close throughout the day as well there is your xc2 leader on screen the 969 of johnny gerard whoa whoa whoa is that no that can't be winkowski no that's elaine michael i saw an ambro yamaha behind him and i was like two minutes to 16 seconds he made up a ton of time but that is actually xc1 rider lane michael well folks here we go ben kelly white flag waving and he is getting closer and closer and closer to a finish line and a checkered flag waving for the 5 30 ktm rider ben kelly redeeming himself after what he felt was a subpar performance his team related they felt was a subpar performance they want him all battling for podiums well auntie if you're watching ben kelly wants to do better the podium for you he wants to bring you a win and he's working hard to do that right now in a pretty commanding position at this point well leaders do in your leader i should say ben kelly in about 14 minutes still a little over a minute lead over jordan ashburn and josh strang going nose to tail in a battle for that third place position and another big question fans do baylor catch the podium can grant baylor little baby brother catch stu stick around to find out gncc live continues after this rocky mountain atv mc retailer distributor manufacturer product developer parts tester this is what we do but who we are is we are in the midst of the final and closing moments of the moose racing wild boar gncc taking a look back to just one year ago johnny this is what things look like there yeah just one year ago in the uh not post caleb russell era grabbing the whole shot the number one fmf red bull ktm of caleb russell would go on to kind of make a statement here at round two uh he was able to just kind of ride away with the win jordan ashburn strong early stu baylor back there on the sherco that was his former ride and then there is lane michael another rider that was up front early uh but when it came right down to it grant baylor uh had some issues stu baylor also had some issues actually was out trying to get his bike fixed on an e-bike and uh was able to get back into the race but uh as we watch on screen and we see the battles caleb russell ricky russell was up front all day said he's not a sand rider but josh strang back there just stalking him that was the battle over second and third that raged on as the race continued but the man out front oh and there we saw that was the big crash that uh i believe that was jordan ashburn had it was caleb russell kind of just you know rode away with this one josh strang there uh again that podium battle ricky russell was up in it thick and then ended up ripping the handguard off struggled through but still came through with the podium finish caleb russell finishing you'd see those guys not wanting to get in front of caleb they wanted to see a checkered flag and uh again that was a statement ride for the champ uh johnny drawer getting the win in that xc2 class second place mike witkowski and uh yeah there was your podium in xc1 and xc2 yeah johnny gerard got fifth place overall last year too you know we take a look back at uh last year's results comparing to this year's results heading into this final lap uh about the only difference is replace ben kelly with uh caleb russell you got the the basically the same key players uh there are some changes jordan jordan ashburn up in the mix today right ricky russell's falling out of it but uh jordan is up a little bit closer and gosh is back into it so uh kind of interesting how these guys have consistently gone uh year to year like that here in stanson florida and it's funny we were talking about it earlier in the show josh strength says he doesn't put all the weight into florida that a lot of these other guys do but he always seems to be up there mr consistency man i tell you that's steady eddy steady eddie that's it steady eddie the freight train constantly moving forward chugging along and it's going to pay huge dividends and you know i think stu baylor might be uh talking uh with a lot of sense when he talks about josh strength being probably one of the bigger threats as far as this championship is concerned just like alone while we're watching that and while we're talking about that i i agree with you 100 percent strain was on a very short list of my favorites for this year's championship and kelly's going to be tough too ben kelly has to be on that list oh yeah definitely i feel like you know ben the the fifth that he had at the season opener was not indicative of where we're gonna see him throughout the season um i don't expect to see him run away with the title and win all the races um just like i don't expect to see stu do that you know a lot of people i'm a yamaha guy obviously a lot of people like oh you think stu can run the table and win all 13 no no no one can do that um you know at least not in this era it's too competitive um i think we're gonna see stew grab wins i think we're gonna see josh strang grab wins jordan ashburn you know man we've been slow playing him you know here he is running second late deep into this one uh grant baylor another one you know he's charging late struggled a little bit early here but we slept on him big time at round one you know we're talking about championship contenders we're talking about all the guys they've never came up he literally was never mentioned you know and that was such a fail on my part on on all of our parts like and then halfway through the race we're like oh yeah this guy that has a chance to win by the way we forgot to talk about him at all before but but i think that shows the depth i mean there's so many guys that need to be in that conversation josh toth really putting in a gritty ride today um you know ricky russell strong early lane michael has been right there throughout much of the day you know some of these guys are struggling a little bit late don't know if it's just bad decisions bad line choice maybe a little bit of their fitness but this is round two yeah 11 rounds left for them to get this all figured out and getting it figured out into second rodney if you want to be in the championship contention what do you do you maximize your points right exactly and that's exactly what josh strange is doing i mean let's put this into perspective now strength going what it will be 2-2 if i'm not mistaken did he get third last one uh he got third okay sad duval 3-2 could that possibly put him in the point acting today i believe it would it would it would be it should beat out i believe uh ben kelly well let's do some math so we've had our top three through and we'll be waiting on fourth place which we believe still will be austria by the way jordan ashburn did just come by there in third place so 30 points for a win uh is what ben kelly will get today he finished fifth so that would be 16 points so he'll have 46 points josh strang would have scored 21 points for his third place finish and he would score 25 points so they would be tied but the points leader would be ben kelly kelly would win it because the tiebreaker he has a win so the bet even though they would be tied on i don't i don't know how that works with the leaders red plate if the championship would be decided yeah the championship would be decided ben kelly would be your winner if it was a champion grant baylor did we miss stu can we adam can somebody on screen did we miss stu baylor or is grant baylor your new fourth place rider okay wait we were talking about points we missed you we got all excited we thought we had a shake up but uh yeah so uh yeah that but yeah i think they would share the points lead obviously heading in but uh obviously one of them has to have first gate pick so it would be to uh go to ben kelly simply because of the last best last round so i think he would probably have the slight edge as far as gate pick or start thinking good point somebody has to go to the line first and uh it would be ben kelly if they finish the way they're running right now but they would both i believe as you pointed out have the option to share that leader's red plate josh toth coming by there and that is your sixth place rider at least physically as they run johnny gerard may factor in there uh in the overall he was last we saw ahead of josh toth on corrected time even though he's physically behind him starting from that xc2 pro lights class uh he would be very close there we did just see another rider go through there with a yellow fanny pack on but i don't it could have been ricky russell that may have been ricky russell so he may have at the finish line that gap was 28 seconds i believe here no sorry 13 seconds it looks like he's actually closed up a little bit on josh's toes so we may see a little bit more of a battle over that sixth place spot in xc1 with ricky russell making a late race charge trying to close in on josh toth johnny i remember the first year we were here we had a lot of these little uh waterways that had a lot of water and a couple different years we've been here but is there more water this year than there has been as far as these little ponds are concerned with these puddles so not to be wishy-washy on my answer but both yes and no there's more water on the property than there has ever been in that we've been here that being said the track itself the way it's routed doesn't run through the deepest of the water so there's been a lot of years where it was drier but they ran us through some sections or some puddles or some that were deeper than what we're running through this weekend because they were able to get to them right now because of the way the water's lying it's just too iffy to kind of put those in uh so we're staying out of those sections well right at three minutes and we should be expecting to see our leader ben kelly checking in at the finish line for his win number one of the 2021 season and if things can continue the way they are a share in the point seat heading into round three to georgia next weekend when we go to a and you pass for the general gncc as we wait with baited breath here approaching that three-hour mark as well we'll have right at three hours of racing when this race is completed johnny we are two hours and almost 57 minutes at this particular point in time you got the drone following a rider not sure that that is ben kelly uh but it may be uh we were a little too high there in altitude to see for sure so i don't that rider appears to have numbers on his back and i don't think it is ben kelly ben kelly's numbers are sublimated and we're getting a glare off of those riders numbers so sublimated graphics would not do that i don't think that was ben uh but he should be coming through this section here any moment at a high rate of speed and headed for a checkered flag ricky tower is going to be ben kelly's best friend today he's going to be super quick flag well as uh as we were well the math uh adam i think that we we scored it uh a tide at 46 points yeah so it would i know for sure uh it's 30 points for a win it would be if ben kelly won today he would have scored fifth place in uh at big buck so he got 16 points so that's yeah 46 points and rodney did the quick math on string and i believe you said if he finishes second he would also have 46 points so they would be tied and they would share that leader's red plate and uh again here's red play into round two yeah so early in the championship we won't know the real truth of that until after the general tnc and with the time that we only have seven days neither one of them may have any special graphics made so we may see neither of them run that but they would still be tied for the points lead regardless of who does or does not run the reverse plate uh which we became so accustomed to seeing for so many years on caleb russell's bike that distinct white number plate with the red number one uh that wasn't something special that was done for caleb uh because he was number one or you know because he was caleb russell and he won eight championships that is the signification of your points leader you don't see it much uh on the atv side because walker fowler is afraid of it he said he ran at one time and it brought him bad luck so he will not do it uh but on the on the bike side caleb russell often did run that almost always when he was in fact the points leader which was most of the last eight years well about 30 seconds and we should be seeing our lead this area of the race course if you're watching with us on racer tv which is near the completion of the sixth and of course crowds beginning to gather down by the finish line in anticipation of bing kelly's win number one of 2021 as well as to see how this battle between the former teammates of jordan ashburn and josh strang is going to pan out at the checkered flag and will stu baylor still be able to hang out in the fourth place so will grant be able to inch one out on him here in the closing moments of this moose racing wild boar cc two hours 59 minutes and 45 seconds now into this race as we approach that exact top of the hour three hours it's gonna be all of it this is gonna be a true three hour gncc checkered flag with five seconds to spare wow kelly brings it in and closes this one out at two hours 59 minutes 55 seconds wow ben kelly taking the win here at the moose racing wild boar gncc and doing it quite convincingly at the three hour mark here and of course uh putting himself in a great position as far as the early points leader as well should be sharing that depending on how this finishes up and got himself in a great position after two rounds of racing and a lot to be hopeful and to look forward to in the upcoming rounds yeah been a great comeback for ben kelly you know he was again we've talked about so many times disappointed with his fifth place finish at round one but a solid point stay for him comes back today and and really makes a statement i mean to win uh this convincingly in florida i mean that's uh that's a statement of his fitness and we're now being told that grant baler is up to fourth i did not think i saw stu come through that uh that shot there so i don't know if we may have lost stu all together potentially uh we'll have to wait and see how that one pans out or if maybe he just fell back a little bit we are still waiting for our second place rider that 140. well you know here's something interesting if grant baylor gets the fourth place position that'll score him 18 points that gives him 48 points he'll still be the point leader so there you go grant baylor could keep that leaders red plate and or keep the leader's plate and uh and continue to lead the points if he can how about that ninth two laps ago if he can work his way up to fourth which we think he may have josh strang now in so second place is nailed down ben kelly has won it josh trang is now second finishing one minute and 24 seconds behind we should be seeing the very distinctive bright helmet of jordan ashburn in that third place spot and a podium for jordan what a great day you know he's wanting to pay that magna one lubricant's team back that husky team for giving him a ride giving him an opportunity to showcase his skills and there he is there he is and i believe we have mikey wayne's as well down near the uh specialized winner's circle as he gets and gets set to uh congratulate and talk with our top three but first we're going to take a quick break here on racertv.com we'll be back with podium interviews and to find out will grant baylor be your points leader when we head into round number three as we wait for the 314 to make his way through last season was my best season ever by far i won a lot of races i won a championship and it was my also my first year using arma and one of the things i noticed was just my ability to string good days together you know like especially in the summertime in florida where you're riding every day and the heat index is 108 degrees and you're doing 230's and going to the gym and bicycling and all that stuff i think in the past i've been super inconsistent day to day yeah i may have a you know good race here or you know a good day during the week there but overall i think where i improved the most was my consistency in my recovery seconds [Music] even when you're the best you never stop striving to be better the all-new from the ground up 2019 yamaha yz250f is sands of florida with our motorcycle racing today congratulations to ben kelly on a big win as we head down to the specialized winners circle with he and mikey waynes well thanks rodney down here ben kelly getting rehydrated man you look good you look fresh you look like you could go another two laps i don't know about that but uh i'm honestly not as destroyed as i thought i would be uh yeah i just i felt good out there you know i got a decent jump off the line and kind of got passed by a few guys and then at mile four i kind of jumped the ditch and landed a little squirrely and went down i dropped back like seventh or so i was a little frustrated but uh yeah i knew it was gonna be a long race so i just kind of stayed smooth and just rode steady a few guys crashed in front of me so i got a few freebie pass yeah i just stayed steady slowly worked my way up through the pack and uh we pit early and i think i was in second at that point but we had a quicker pit stop than stu so i got by him and uh yeah i kind of just just charged a little bit from there i did a few good laps and uh then just stayed steady from there i felt really good my bike was awesome suspension was was meant i uh just stayed aggressive and kind of blitzed the whoops everywhere and it felt really good as long as i didn't get low in the whoops so uh not too many mistakes or sketchy moments just i played it patient with the lappers this time because it bit me at the first round so uh yeah just rode smart and came out on top it feels good quick congratulations on the win coming off of round one i believe you finished fifth we know that's not where you want to be you see yourself as a contender as do a lot of folks what's the uh what's the mindset heading into round three here in a week yeah uh it's a long season so i'm you know not too worried uh but i was super mad at myself after that first race i i was leading early and felt amazing like i was honestly surprised how good i felt on that track and uh had a little bit of a rough time leading into that race so i was a little uncertain but just was feeling so good i had a solid off season down at ranch russell here in florida training with charlie mullins and yeah i'm just solid i just just got to believe in myself you know i'm my own hardest critic so just gotta ride like i know how and then stop thinking so much well it certainly worked out today you got big congratulations you guys make some noise for your overall winner here today ben kelly all right congratulations ben kelly taking the first his first win of the 2021 season and josh strain coming across the line in that second place position doing a little bit of the math there for him on his points right now as we said a second and uh this race uh a third from the last race yields him 46 points so he and ben kelly are tied in this one uh only a couple of points behind uh grant baylor who was able to maintain the points lead with that fourth place finish down there so interesting uh look uh and start to this championship season like this already and you know um though we've had tight championships before but uh it's exciting to me to see three guys like this and four guys i'm well there's probably more than that when we start looking at the totals but how close they are after two rounds of racing and that's only going to give these guys more and more incentive to fight harder and harder and harder speaking of fighting harder the freight train himself josh strang fought very very hard he's with mikey wayne's now pointing me into models down here with josh strang man uh josh fantastic ride uh so far great start to the season putting yourself in a good position here in 2021 yeah it was uh good man this track like uh i wrote it actually friday afternoon and saturday morning and i was like man this track is actually really fun i think i rode past johnny g and said man i wish i was riding an atv this weekend and i rode the track yesterday afternoon after those boys were done and it was just tore up so it was already gnarly and i knew well i knew it didn't matter how about how many bucks we had today it was going to be bad so uh this place always is difficult and you just have to pace yourself the the sand whips are so big and you can time a section and then you get out of outer rhythm and and get squirrely so you really just have to take your time and uh and just just kind of ride through this race and and and just be consistent and that was it i think i've tipped over once all day and uh yeah so second place is pretty good uh that's an understatement to me josh i think uh we've heard you say it in the past down here in florida this one's about survival you come here you try to do the best you can you move on to georgia so what's the mindset for josh strang moving into round three in a week yeah it's this place is difficult there there's a lot of top guys now that come down to florida for the entire winter to ride this stuff and it uh to be competitive with those guys i mean they've been down here like i said all winter so to get a second place and there's been a bunch of them down here i'm happy with that you know this one's so still so early in the year maybe if it was towards the end of the year i would spend more time down here in the sand but uh this one you just have to make sure and just feel comfortable in the sand and i've always enjoyed riding the sand maybe not always the fastest guy but i enjoy riding it and uh yeah we've got a short week a real short week the older i get the shorter it gets so uh we'll have to spend a lot of time recovering this week and uh maybe try and get a day of riding in the clay before next weekend and let's hope i hope that conditions are good i haven't seen any forecasts yet or anything but man big buck was tough on me that place was gnarly i think everyone can agree and uh georgia is normally real ruddy and rough as well so uh let's see how it goes all right there you go josh congratulations man we'll see you in a week yeah yep congratulations to the freak train cross string man i tell you man it pulled pace off once again for him yeah and you heard it he said it in his own words right there he said hey man i don't train in this i'm not used to it he said so to be competitive with these guys that have been down here all winter riding you know just a few miles from here man that's a you know ben kelly making a statement with the win but josh strang making kind of a quiet statement with that second place finish saying hey i came to your back and got some solid points today oh yeah he did yes he most certainly did and uh we'll see what happens here in a week or so but josh strength seems like he's going to be the thorn in everybody's side stu baylor made that statement uh i've made that statement you've made that statement everybody's we all know the potential of what uh the 114 can bring to us here in this uh 2021 championships yeah and you know and while mikey wayne's tries to track down jordan ashburn if we can get him there in the third place you know stu bailer's another rider we gotta mention you know uh unfortunately it appears he dropped off our radar there on the last lap he was running in fourth uh he did not come in to the finish even still yet he still only has five laps complete meaning what we're told he has a clutch issue and has dnf'd uh which essentially that you know he said caleb russell is wrapped up around the race two runs early well unless he can get that thing fixed here in the next couple minutes and get it in for some top 20 points steve's gonna be two rounds in the hole after it which is sickening after the effort that he put in out there today but what kind of a comeback would that be yeah i agree but now it's getting to be more like a fairy tale than a believable story but you know you can't you can't ever count your chickens so they hatch but stu baylor definitely in a big hole right now rocky mountain atvmc leaderboard the overall results being kelly josh strength jordan ashburn grant baylor josh both rounding out the top five ricky russell in six your winner of the xc2 pro class jonathan gerard in seventh craig de long back up into second in the class eighth overall lane michael takes ninth and third in the xc2 pro class michael witkowski rounds out your top ten rocking down the atpmc leaderboard wow so lots of changes there in the last lap and a half or so and of course uh we saw a great battle in that last couple of laps as well with this guy right here jordan ashford who's with mikey wings now thanks rodney yeah down here jordan ashburn man uh fantastic start to the season great race out there today uh snagging the uh the podium finish how you feeling after floor man i'm smoked to be honest with you but i know it was a solid day and i give it to my all and you know uh man straying we're tied the last couple laps and uh end up going down the last lap and losing him but uh you know i'm i'm pretty happy with the day i mean my bike was great the team was great you know everybody helping point lions out there is it it was a gnarly track talk to us a little bit about the mindset this season here on uh you seem to have a little swagger you got you're rocking the number three this year there just seems to be this this i don't know you seem happier and and when you're happy you seem to ride better out there yeah you know i mean it's like kind of like i was third overall really get much notoriety for it and uh you know i just just ready to come out here and put results out well they're certainly happening man congratulations jordan ashburn taking third place today oh man there you have it ronnie he said it he said i finished third last year didn't get much notoriety for it so i'm out here trying to get the results so podium it's funny how that works third for the year doesn't necessarily get the get the press that third for the day does this it is nuts how that all works there's no doubt about that that's for sure so uh pretty interesting way this one all broke down uh great race no doubt and one that we expected to be a nail biter was just exactly that right down to the wire still lots of questions probably simply answered believe it or not and don't forget uh we will be back live again tomorrow on racertv.com as we'll be broadcasting from the ricky carmichael amateur supercross uh be sure to check racertv.com for the times and details on that looks like it's gonna be a great time uh record turnout's over there for that one as well so looking forward to that until then on behalf of all of us here at racer tv my co-host today johnny gallagher mikey wayne's thanks also to tyler shepherdson i'm rodney toblin have a great day everybody you
