and we welcome you inside rough arena home of the 10th ranked kentucky wildcats on the hardwood for the first time in eight days getting ready to take on the jaguars of southern university hi folks and welcome everybody he is the shooter pat bradley i am mike morgan great to be back with you it's been a while since we've seen kentucky basketball when we left this squad pat they won six consecutive games a lot of new faces but one that has led the way particularly on the glass oscar shebway has been an absolute terror or get out of my way chibwei he accounts for 35 of all kentucky rebounds and 28 of an offensive rebounding rate what does that mean he gets his tams his team second chance opportunities he puts pressure on the opposing big men he gets him in foul trouble and he gets nearly seven extra shots for him and his teammates that's double than anyone else in the sec did you ever think we would open up a game with a rebounding highlight mike morgan i mean this is the first time in sec history that's right no threes no alley-oops just a guy that goes to work every day and that is something that quite frankly kentucky lacked a little bit of last year that blue collar mentality no pun intended oscar sheboy gives them that the nation's leading rebounder you see a half a dozen double doubles already and how about this kentucky under coach cal known as a great rebounding team over the years but this is ridiculous now number one in america in rebound margin they out rebound their opponents by over 19 a game kind of a special game as well southern is from the swac there in hbcu and coach calipari starting a five-year program to play a swac school every year five consecutive years they will do that in order to raise awareness of the missions of the hbcus and raise funds to provide opportunities for students at their institutions so both these teams the players the coaches have become very familiar with one another and of course the coach for southern is very familiar to kentucky fans and that is shawn woods sean woods part of those memorable teams that rebuilt this program under coach rick pitino back in the days and this was a very special trip for sean woods now in his fourth year as a southern university head coach you and i were still kids bradley but we loved basketball even as youngsters and we do remember those kentucky teams for a lot of us that was our introduction to the love of basketball the early absolutely kentucky duke game got a chance to talk to both coach woods and uh richie farmer about it we got a few of those unforgettables in the house today we'll tell you more about that kentucky wins the opening tip the wildcats in white same starting five that you've seen most of the year including the man with the ball savior wheeler the georgia transfer who gives off to the most talented of the freshmen washington the leading scorer and he starts things off with a bucket here we'll see a lot of that high ball screen action with wheeler and chibwe coming off that and look at tai tai washington looking for a scene to where he can create most talented overall best scorer kentucky has southern comes in with a record of three and five and they have been road warriors they've played six games already on the road this is the seventh one that's just life of a lot of mid majors you have to earn some of that money by taking some of those road games and that's what sean woods and company have done that's what allowed them to do and they have to practice on the road fine practice time rest time uh and of course class work that they have to do on the road too so this is not a lot of times these aren't fun road trips you can take care of business while you also get the opportunity to play in rump arena we were bumped and fouled by pj bird kentucky also good news talking with coach cal and staff earlier today they are completely healthy really for the first time this year they had some injuries they had some players sick a week or two ago but they've got a full complement of players today which is good news for the wildcats as they get closer and closer to a daunting three-game out-of-conference stretch alley you pass and the flush nice play and that's the leading scorer tyrone lyons on the business end of the alley-oop great awareness staying good things happen when you stay around the rim and right there it looks like he could throw it anywhere near the rim and he was going to catch it wheeler a little bit of a force coughed it up in transition here come the jaguars and another loose basketball and it's going to be out of bounds to southern jaguars forcing around 20 turnovers per game for kentucky you cannot be careless with the ball because they know what to do with it as you just saw there when they turn it over boom they're up the floor quick and finished that's a big part of their offense their defense turning into easy buckets it was a long shoot around session today for sean woods's southern squad they went over everything anything and everything that kentucky does they covered it today in practice so they are a well-prepared team for sure washington tries to tight rope the baseline can't do it it'll be southern basketball with 10 on the shot clock and coach knew coming in here that kentucky's athleticism they get on the glass kentucky's teams always do that so you have to compete on the glass and you can't turn it over you cannot help them out and you hope to keep the crowd out of it too much that's huge once this crowd gets rolling that's truly a sixth man bird with a baseline pass and nice dipsy do underneath that time by jayden sadler one of three scorers averaging double figures for the jaguars something you'll hear us talk about right there risky play great block though blocked by lions on shibuya ahead of the pack in transition to miss no to follow a foul called on washington did soviet wheeler just get that block one for the little guys one for the little guys go for the steal you cheat makes you pay great block there though just meets oscar sheebly right in front of the rim talking to coach cal what he wants to accomplish today mike is post touches from multiple guys he wants to find out which one of his guys are going to be the most effective post player now here's the challenge the art of passing to the post sir the art how do you create angles you may have to dribble right left to get a nice pass to the post but who's going to be his best post play we'll find out it sounds so simple we'll just dump it into the post but as you said angles how often do you see a guy throw a bad angle pass and it's deflected and stolen mike you can't figure out how to get it there it's just some belief how about a little ball fake fake high uh-huh pass level the other way it's amazing fake low pass high there you go that's what i was going for i'm with you and this is the other thing that jaguars do pressure they're going to put that pressure on you full court pressure kentucky has to burn a timeout an inauspicious start to this one for coach cal and the wildcats trailing at 6-2 you knew southern was going to give kentucky its best punch of course the wildcats are used to that but this is an extra special game again for sean woods who was such a pivotal part of that kentucky rebuilding project when coach rick pitino took over he was all tournament team in that 1992 tournament a little background on southern nine ncaa appearances the last one coming in 2016. i mentioned they play in the swac now i knew about avery johnson i forgot lou brock is a southern alum and of course avery johnson who we got to know well enjoyed covering him at alabama as a head coach how about this so shawn woods if you go by average assists per game is the all-time leader in kentucky history just a fraction ahead of tyler euis the player that still owns the record for most assists per game in a season won avery johnson who did it at southern both those guys great distributors and the other thing they do coach woods understands pressure he understands how to create pressure on the ball as he's doing now active hands good positioning one thing he preaches that's why they forced 20 turnovers a game wheeler with eight on the shot clock wheeler probes kicks washington straight on three kicks off the iron and a rebound of southern that is into the hands of damien sears that's what we talked about compete on the glass compete defensively five guys whaler actually had kellen grady in that left corner for a 3-2 chose to go to ty ty watson who's been shooting the ball really well skip pass sets up an open three on the way knocked down by tyrone lyons the leading scorer averaging over 14 points a game damian collins got sucked into the paint just a little too far thought he had enough time to recover southern all over the place tenacious defense drive by washington reverse layup is good what he gives you is that creativity scoring you don't have to call a play for him he's not gonna just be coming off screens for shots get it to him and he can he he can make a circus shot like he just did wheeler on the attack lost it great defense that time by bird picked his pocket but kentucky got it back and a whistle co and a timeout on the floor with 15 51 to go 9-4 southern on only top it before sean woods and what a career he had and what a job that this group of players did the unforgettables you've got sean woods shake and bake i forgot the quickness of sean woods here pat look that behind the back dribble just creating some space and the defender can't get the ball there sean woods again 5.3 assists per game that is the all-time score record for average he played in 91 games had 21 points in that duke game remember he had the game-winning shot before of course christian laidner with less than three seconds to go had the final say also the career steals record 1.58 per game coached by pitino tubby billy donovan among others has coached at morehead state as well as mississippi valley states found a comfortable home at southern and is glad to be back home richie farmer we had a good long talk with both those guys about that 92 team we could have done a two-hour show on that conversation alone i don't know why they want to keep throwing coach pelfrey under the bus on that defensive possession coach bell i got you back man he was doing what the coach wanted to don't foul don't foul there you see richie farmer how about this richie farmer 51 points in the state championship game still a record he actually went up against allen houston who was ready to go to louisville before his dad got the tennessee job and allen goes to tennessee allen houston for a long time was the all-time three-point leader in scc history poor some guy named pat bradley broke his record with 366. who was that guy had to do it it had to do it to him i think i did it against tennessee too so a little insult to injury with a three-point play opportunity doing what he does best a rebound and a stick back and going to that timeout i wrote down southern winning the glass game they winning the turnover battle they're staying in front of the ball defensively what is going to help kentucky get back into this is this man right here leads kentucky leads the nation in offensive rebounds per game gets about seven of them so right there he can put it back himself so then mike he gets his team an extra shot what else does he do he gets a foul on the opposing team so there's multiple good things that happen when this guy attacked the offensive gust in kentucky's got more than just him now jacob topham damian collins all those guys can get extra shots right at the rim they're always long and athletic and this this year certainly no exception to that but but sheboy is just a difference maker he's an absolute space heater and he lives for rebounding we got a chance to talk to him before the previous game and he's got it broken down the percentages of when a shot goes up where it's going to land so he does break it down more than just athleticism he's got instincts too wheeler takes it in the trees and has it rejected xavier wheeler got a little bit too greedy on that one the other way oh my goodness that'll be a goaltend but you get a a feel for damian collins vertical leap which is well in the 40s a freakish athlete true freshman out of atlanta texas yeah that one hit the backboard no question hit it first but yeah damian collins he got a 42 inch vertical with 7-5 wingspan still trying to put some weight on him he was on a 5 000 calorie a day diet very similar to yours pat in the off season trying to put on holiday diet right there going back to the post so you saw jacob topping in the post so a couple things about that first of all do you know how to post right because you got to know how to get position and then when you catch it do you have post moves mints with an air ball mince really the most consistent player from the year ago i felt the breeze yes no doubt there it is second opportunity no collins fighting collins slamming very simple game coach cal sometimes understands that his best offense is that secondary throw it up get it back well what did i know our guys are going to defend we'll be in position the question will be can we stop them from getting second third shots you did in the first four minutes and that's why you were up these last three possessions that's been the difference she weighed a wheeler alley you passed there's jacob topping top and missed some games with a shoulder injury he's healthy again and that provides some more depth for big blue and that comes off of now southern gives up two uh a couple of buckets right there at the rim so they're starting to press now and there's some wheeler as good as anybody in the country he's gonna run it down your throat and he's got the athletes on the wings just throwing up to the raptors my man he is going to get it if jacob topping didn't catch it damon collins was going to catch him or oscar sheebway was going to catch it mention that shoulder injury it was his shooting shoulder that got dinged up he missed four games of action but now you add him as a threat on the wing and savio wheeler can start picking weapons left right alley passes beating the post he's already leading the league and assists and you would think he'd have a very good opportunity to finish that way did so a year ago at georgia the weapons here at kentucky a different level and that's it and then you add into all those runners on the perimeter on your wings you got uh kellen grady who you can pitch it back to for a trail three tie tie washington's a three-point shooter dante allen's another guy that can come in spot up shooter so you get your runners oscar shebway for his size is the fastest big man in the country okay he does an excellent job in transition from defense to offensive sprinting and taking up space in the paint flattens out the defense so they've got a lot of great pieces to run a lot of great pieces on that preseason all scc first team most of those guys have kind of lived up to the hype i think that the secondary storyline in the sec this is a great crop of freshman this year that we're going to be entertained with and how about the latest poll seven seven sec teams in the top 25 as lsu joined that mix that is a loaded league and people are starting to recognize nationally pat bradley what you and i already knew coming in this right now is the best league in college basketball there's no question and we knew keon brooks that that is a shot right there that he has improved on he's gonna have to make it in that transition type play but it's certainly something that we have seen trending in that way over the last couple years in sec basketball reminds you of the late 90s sec basketball doesn't it mike morgan yeah i would say maybe even a little bit deeper i would say maybe even of course in the late 90s you had some ridiculously good kentucky teams and then eventually billy donovan at florida auburn was a team that got to number one in the fellas yeah the chris porter teams that of course had our own damien fish back on them as well doc robinson even ole miss was a top 15 team with keith cotter and mike white that was the rod barnes era yes sir we're just taking trips down to scc memory lane i like it that bradley well you got me all nostalgic with sean woods and john pelfrey early 90s guys now it's the direction the impetus of this league has really been good 21 bids to the ncaa tournament the last three tourneys it's seven per year and it would be shocking that this year is not at least seven with the depth of this league kentucky hopes to lead the way again pre-season pick to win the league there's going to be a lot of competition lance ware tagged with the offensive foul when we come back we'll take you to a visit to the underground railroad museum which both of these teams had a chance to visit just two days ago well again this is the first of five consecutive seasons of matchups between kentucky and schools from the swag hbcus trying to unite and promote unity and they were able to unite together this is some pictures and video of both teams receiving a guided tour of the national underground railroad freedom museum just an hour away in cincinnati players from each side coaches from each side got a chance to take it all in learn some things that shawn woods was very outspoken with us about how enjoyable that was because the story was really a positive one in terms of people looking out for one another from all kinds of backgrounds that's really what sparked that whole movement and these two coaches we talked about their relationship their respect for one another and really pat when you look at what they're doing here it's a terrific idea here's some other shots from the actual freedom center but first of five years to unite with schools hbcus from the swac conference you got to give coach cal a lot of credit for kind of jump starting that and sean woods was so thankful and so complimentary of coach calipari for providing this opportunity for so many people and that's what it was great move right there no help on the back side coach woods talked about how we all have had somebody help us along our journey and get to where we need to go so he's so appreciative and everyone else is of what this represents this game that's ty ty washington right there oh that's an offensive foul nice defense that time by southern i believe that's 22 brianne whitley and that's taitai's second foul so he might be headed to the bench here pretty soon yes indeed he will love his aggressiveness coach cal has talked many times about when he has such talented players trying especially ty ty washington he's trying to explain to him we need you to be that aggressive sure every once in a while there may be a mistake in the foul turnover but we want your aggressiveness he's because he's a very unselfish player too there are times where you'd want him right to take the lead i think it's it's pretty clear he is going to be the guy you talk about that kind of alpha dog when you need a big bucket it's going to be tai tai if the indications are correct so far indications are southern came to play that's whitley on a three at southern on a three-point game how much does kentucky having an eight-day layoff factor into all this well they haven't been 100 all year and this eight days normally for a team which would be very beneficial they hadn't been able to to have maybe three or four practices with everybody on the team and mike right there that is the fourth post poster by kentucky by my map right which that isn't always that great out of four post-ups you have two turnovers an offensive foul and then a missed shot right there so going back to what cal was looking for who can i post up who can get me who can give me that presence i'm looking for somebody sheboy tried he picked up his first foul for team fouls on kentucky and southern leads by three okay coming up after this one we've got the second game of our double header the arkansas razorbacks taking on charlotte arkansas another top ten team from the sec undefeated i had them just a couple of days ago i know you obviously keep up with your alma mater how good is this arkansas squad very deep offensively talented they've got a bunch of guys that can hurt you and aggressive they showed a lot of toughness in that win against cincinnati there's shebway getting some good position down low and once he gets it that close to the basket it's a flush oh you might as well count to two i mean it's like larry bird go on the free throw line counter for two by the way happy birthday larry joe larry legend happy birthday did i see 65 was that the number say it ain't so foul on the baseline pretty high number caught me by surprise that's one will go against keon brooks his first foul of course kellen grady a boston native himself i'm sure he didn't patent his game after larry bird like you and i probably a different probably like paul pierce he's got a little more uh versatility in his game grady does 2 000 points score transfer from davidson university in a much younger fan of basketball another three for whitley southern it's just it's just late getting to that rotation that the previous three-point shot the defender kentucky defender is getting caught in the lane not guarding anybody and then they're just late to get out to the shooter brady spot fire it's a good look for a good shooter and schwiebe sheboy just got whistled for his second foul and now slams the ball be careful you don't want to get a technical and cheap way can't believe he got called for a foul there that's the look kellen grady wants that's the the one that coach kell and kentucky want for him now this is the challenge for oscar sheba he's just he's so big and the ball tends to fall towards him i don't know if he's got some kind of magnetic pull to him or whatever well he's battling pj bird there pj bird is nearly a foot smaller he's about six feet tall and sheboy doesn't really have to foul to get a rebound over bird but gotta give bird credit it was a pretty fine box out he did everything he could his textbook get low push out with your legs get them right in the motors right remember like taught us right the quads eye area push them out gotta fire those quads a lot of sixth grade coaches just going crazy right now for a proper boxing wheeler not necessarily the shot that coach cal wants out of savior wheeler has the ability and that'll be an offensive foul grady gets position outside the restricted arc and tyrone lyons whistle for the foul that one looked to me like they both got up in the air and kell and grady goes straight up i thought possibly there was a push off with lions off on him but no just kellan going straight up eight and a half minutes to go first half southern up four mints on a good look mints on a triple that's the forgotten guy he was so good for kentucky last year in an otherwise forgettable season that was as a starter now he provides depth off the bench for the wildcats fade and fire finally southern missing some jumpers that off the heel of the rim here comes wheeler full throttle mints on another three mints can't find the mark bird drive and kick now the baseline drive you don't take it on collins but there to clean up the mess is ewing mints again collins offensive rebound and he'll be fouled in a sea of jaguars 21-18 our score when we come back we'll take another look at the historical group for the kentucky wildcats the unforgettables a couple of them in attendance here today we go back into the wayback machine and of course 1992 we're talking about it earlier look at this shot by woods that should have been remembered as one of the biggest shots in kentucky history in a win that propels the wildcats to a final four and instead the celebration was short-lived after a time out and woods talked about the fact rick pitino knew what they were doing scouted if you look closely they had two guys in the area of latener they wanted to make sure leightoner was double-teamed that's why they didn't guard the inbounder and of course that part of the unforgettables look at that picture there of course you've got jamal mashfun on the far left patino farmer nice stash woods feldhouse helfrey who's now the head coach at tennessee tech and a great conversation we had today with farmer and woods who were teammates and great friends to this day as sean woods pointed out and he had richie farmer talked to his team and shoot around he said look i came from a not so privileged urban part of town richie farmer out of eastern kentucky came from a not so privileged rural part of town but when we came together and worked together it was all about family and we worked harder than you could ever imagine and help bring kentucky basketball back that'll never be forgotten by big blue nation that's what's so great about sports and everyone knows when you they're all working towards that same goal it brings you together no matter where you're from kentucky elevate a man a trampoline show with topping and collins topping trying to hit here can't do it and another opportunity and topping passed up the first one and the second one now backs in and draws the foul on southern that'll be going against pj bird coach cal getting on someone there wondering if he wanted kellen to catch that in rhythm helen grady feel it get something going for him another post up there for topping made a good move really good move you think he's happy with the amount of paint touches so far i think it's a work in progress yes we know that's where kentucky is going to score most of their points making about six threes per game strangely not getting to the free throw line as much as you'd expect them only making about 11 degrees excuse me free throws per game oh my gosh we were just sitting here waiting for him to come down it looked like his head was above the backboard he went eye to eye with the shot clock cam look at that it's like something out of a comic book or a cartoon just scary athleticism for damien collins his numbers in high school were insane 35 points 14 rebounds seven assists and six blocks a night wheeler knocks that one out of bounds that's how high collins gets up here he really and when he jumped it was a float he floated yeah looked around and there he races a shot right there top shelf on the rejection it's going to be kentucky basketball yeah he he doesn't believe in the same type of gravity that you and i do when he jumps he just floats up there he makes up for a lot of mistakes i'm in on the defensive end well cal told us earlier in the year he said look damian collins he's under size right now it's gonna be hard banging bodies in the sec and nothing else if he helps provide some rim protection those are the minutes we need out of damien collins kentucky unforced turnover stepping out of bounds and damien got some good seven turnover previous game when keon brooks was out supposed to start last minute damian collins got the nod one point game under six minutes to go first half not a good decision there topping with an easy block kentucky with numbers topping finds wheeler kick out grady open three got it that's what they want from kellen brady this year a precise lethal three-point shooter throughout his career at davidson great fast break you had the shooters dante allen run to one corner kellen grady the other and then wheeler just split the defense which way do i go over 2 000 points and they don't want him to think about shooting when he gets an open look like that put it up there there's a rejection by topping his second block kentucky on the attack again brady wheeler into the corner three ball from allen and that one missed everything that's another guy when he's open like that they want dante allen to not be bashful a rare oxygen ball fired up from the young man out of pendleton county high school a little hyped up there on that fast break and cal talked about it we know the guards are so important to this team for any run and you need a guy that's going to be able to orchestrate it sorry wheeler but you need your shooters man you have to be able to make the open ones to open up that defense for ty ty watching somebody willa sheebway to be able to work inside collin seven of eight on the year from the free-throw line gets the back iron on that one two-point game five minutes to go first half southern out of the swac conference it was a swac team yesterday that ruined the night for the florida gators winning in games so that was texas southern projected to win the wag excuse me the swac out of bounds it will be kentucky basketball we've seen the swac pull off some upsets in the ncaa tournament over the years wheeler sometimes savior wheeler when you talk to the coaching staff because of his size when he goes that deep into the lane he gets swallowed up and that's when bad things tend to happen sometimes you can't go a little a step too far and what you want him to do keep your dribble alive survey it if you do get to bring it back out that's fine create a passing lane because he is so quick it was a great burst first step top and tried to dump it down low to collins but that one anticipated by sadler he lies in fire three and alan with a no-no bumps and fouls a three-point shooter that'll spell three free throws coming up next sunday afternoon will feature another great women's basketball rivalry matchup it's florida hosting florida state at one o'clock eastern time the gators looking to snap a five-game losing streak to the knowles right here on the scc network of course the men's side mike white and the gators knocked off florida state earlier this year that was another big out of conference win for the sec think about some of the wins already for this league florida also knocked off ohio state alabama knocks off gonzaga and kind of a de facto road game in seattle i mean you can go down the line so many sec teams have already picked up quality wins out of conference and that's the reason why they're represented so well the sec seven top 25 teams right now kentucky's going to get their chance right after they take care of although southern is giving them everything they want right now but then kentucky enters into a strong stretch true road game at notre dame and then ohio state and louisville i always feel obligated to mention this even though it sounds obvious there's an open look and that's exactly what kellen grady could do you load it up straight off the hip you want to get hurt somebody who's pressing you that right there get to the corners of the shooter you have your guards break down that initial trap be ready to catch and shoot zone buster press buster collins picks up the foul is first the sec leading the nation with 17 quad one and quad two wins i know we're not quite ready for all that but we can't break down the net here in early december but we can remind you all these games that sometimes get lost in the shuffle this time of year these wins when they start evaluating teams for the ncaa tournament seating and everything else they count just as much in november and december as they do in march that formula it doesn't weight games based on where they are in the calendar absolutely and and they will probably give you even a boost in your resume for willing to play those kinds of games in november and december because guess what mike we need good games with tv my man the audience has got to see something no doubt there's a steal and grady almost got it right back shot blocked i believe by topping and it squirts out the collins frenetic pace there under four minutes to go tied up at 26. here comes wheeler into the corner of the mints mince probes the baseline and a block foul on southern and that'll bring us to timeout with 3 34 to play and some viet wheeler right there did a good job of surveying the defensive elbow right here coming up that high ball screen just thrown anywhere in the arena but damien collins and then kellen grady setting up in the left corner that's exactly what what's up y'all peter burns damien fishback great to have you back in the studio man we'll talk about the strength of this conference vols getting off to a slow start against texas tech what are you seeing in rough arena right now well kentucky's got the massive more bigger team they're doing a good job defensively though i got a question for pat bradley why did it take so long for you to mention my name on that 1999 team come on you know fish i had to the memory isn't always as sharp as it used to be i'm sitting here trying to remember that 92 kentucky roster no no wait a minute how about late 90s auburn roster and then yeah i can't help but start with chris porter i know i know fish would would support me in that because porter would elevate a man he was incredible over that whole team uh ngai doc robinson i know i'm an old forgetting at least one guy and of course as i said and i said with nothing but love and admiration one damien fishback damien doing it all day fish back who would later become the best dressed guy at the entire bunch first guy i know that wore a bow tie on the sec networks right grady he's looking good with that form that's his third triple of the first half so we had discussions all day today about kellen brady great wheeler out of steel in a bucket so kellen grady is going to get open looks more arguably than he did to davidson because you got a lot of other guys that are big time scoring threats on the floor with you you've got to be ready to catch and shoot and on the other side from a defensive standpoint if you're a severe wheeler or some of the other guys you can get away with taking chances defensively because you know you got the big boys helping them behind four on two vince makes them pay on the three assisted by savior whaler and kentucky's on a run 8-0 run by the wildcats they've been hunting that three-point line helen grady mints just running there dante allen sure what that was by sadler but almost worked he needs to yell at himself he said himself he set himself up with a perfect assist and he missed his own it's like man i just got you an open layup it was open you just couldn't handle it man you know another foul myself again you can compliment yourself on the good pass and then you can yell at yourself for not handling the good bad million dollar pass and you know what i'm saying 10 cent finish that's right to the free-throw line the former creighton blue jay and would just kid that's a great great baby different role but still very crucial to this team and he's got the versatility a combo guard completely wants to play the two that was what stuck out to me about him when i first saw him play he's a strong kid man his base his legs are strong okay he's an explosive player defensively he can shoot it get to the rim there's a lot of great things in that back court and of course he brings a lot of experience you think about him and kion brooks lance weir but though you know him and brooks played the majority minutes in the cat's uniform last year southern could use a bucket haven't hit one in over five minutes that will answer the bill and that is jaden sadler and a steal sadly said i'm done passing to myself man i'm gonna take it on my own a lot of traffic inside an easy block where topping all surrounding one jaquan ewing neither one of them left their feet yeah i think when when all you see is just white jerseys it's time to kick it back out and get it started again under two minutes to go seven-point lead for big blue need some help here can't do it all all your own shot clock at two at one tough shot gliding to his right and banking at home jayden sadler you cannot relax against southern's defense too immediately whenever they make or miss they're gonna attack you active hands good anticipation just an aggressive style of defense 94 feet okay looking down low for wear we have not seen shebway in a while he's gotten a lengthy breather with those two fouls and i think that's going to be a lesson that coach calaberry is going to be teaching throughout the rest of these games look young man we need you in the second half if you get two fouls in the first half you're gonna be right here next to me wednesday our next sec inside will grant you an all-access pass to the sec championship game and what a memorable one it was alabama stunning georgia you'll get all the inside footage sounds and players sounds from players and coaches that'll be at nine o'clock eastern time right here on the sec network wednesday did you call that did you call alabama something georgia sure did you did not i sure know i did oh come on i i i didn't hear hardly anybody predict that i heard the opposite i heard people talking like it wasn't even going to be a game yeah i think they forgot that saving guys could imagine though with george's defense what they did all year yeah and of course now you look at it yeah bryce young is a heisman winner i mean so in the talent that they have but still i don't think anybody could predict it bryce young made my heisman ballot selection a lot easier on sunday i can tell you that nice little stop and pop by sadler he's heated up still in just a four point game under a minute to go first half despite everett massachusetts native louisiana being the start and safety for georgia and that's what to expect right from the city of champions everett mass only you would have made that connection in that game wheeler angles it in the collins bellied up down low collins that's the kind of move eventually maybe we'll see more out of with damien collins and it's about getting comfortable on the block making that play recognizing i got that smaller player on me but a couple of things happened right they got it to him he got good post position first of all they were able to get to him second of all and then he made a nice simple move soft touch blow by over topping and collins what a shot to close the gap to within four kell and grady had the hot hand from downtown but gives the southern jaguars credit they made it a very entertaining and competitive first half speaking of compelling and entertaining peter burns the great damian fishbach 38-34 our halftime score perhaps a little bit closer than people expected the jaguars of southern university keeping to the game against the mighty kentucky wildcats as we welcome you back inside rep arena mike morgan pat bradley pat we knew southern was gonna have to do some special things tonight obviously shooting is the opening the ultimate equalizer but how about forcing 10 kentucky turnovers as well well they forced their opponents into 20 so they're right on pace right there you see the aggressive style defense 94 feet they get up in you they make things uncomfortable and they'll turn you over and turn that into open scoring opportunities easy scoring opportunity so it's pretty clear what kentucky needs to do a lot more on oscar sheboy only played 10 minutes in the first half but kentucky found some deep shooting late in that first half they averaged just over six made threes per game have five in this first half you see savia wheeler spread it out he's got kellen grady davion mintz he's got shooters on either side of him it's just up to him who is going to get it you see the numbers overall kentucky shooting the basketball fairly well 48 percent for the field 5-14 from three a turnover number obviously something you'll want to clean up at half number two and we'll see if they can do that as southern tries to pull off a landmark victory on the road here at rough arena same starting five for each squad into the lane blocked by shibuya again chibwe only played 10 minutes the nation's top rebounder and one of the top shot blockers in the sec brady hot first half and starts off the second half a little too strong on the triple so the luxury of having a guy like oscar sheboy who can defend the rim and they got others you have a an offensive player coming around that screen on a defensive miscommunication and you still got the big fellow there that can make up for a mistake to start the break on the other hand brady led the way in the first half nine points on three three-pointers wheeler on a pull-up savior wheeler from 18. and that is going to be important for him to keep the defense honest when he comes off that screen everyone's thinking he's only looking to the lob or a kick to the corner for a three and he does that let the defense know don't give me too much space don't forget about me i can knock that down jaguars setting it up in the front court shot clock down to six they go inside in the trees and sheblade as well as keon brooks at least altered that shot if not blocked it brooks whips it on the corner of the grady and wheeler tried to thread the needle that's another turnover on savir and then numbers and off the top floor for the stuff is tyrone lyons southern plays their game defense creating their offense so when they do get a stat a a steal they immediately everybody runs out and they're very comfortable playing that high tempo game it's a very good inside out move there creating a passing lane now that's an easy two mike if they were all that easy it'd be a much different game but they're not but that's a good job of creating that passing lane right there making something will the defender commit to you nice little easy pass another pull-up from wheelers saying hey hey go under pay respect that shot yeah don't go under the screen with me that's just a bonus for savior wheeler you and i were talking earlier today about his role on this team he doesn't need to be a high scoring guard just a distributor to help lead that offense how about a steal from savior almost and then savior wheeler on a bump foul on pj bird first foul on wheeler and kentucky's always had good defensive teams and the ability to protect the rim the way they do allows for their guards to go for some steals that in other situations on the teams you wouldn't have that luxury because you don't have those rim protectors so you can put that pressure on the perimeter effective pass into the backcourt on the reset it's bird guarded by washington now down to five bird on a pull-up front iron unkind sheboy on a rebound dishes off to wheeler wheeler on the attack now scans and we'll peel back on a reset washington around the ball screen little give and go sheboy missed it got his own rebound now pat is rebounding stats and he'll go to the free-throw line i like that there because you had savior wheeler look to see what can i get in transition nothing there what does he do keep his dribble alive surveys the defense looks for keon brooks in the post shibuya makes a correct decision to come to the high they were almost i thought we're going to do a high low instead tai tai washington and chiba with shibuya work a little two-man game a lot of options on that play right there free throw is good by the former west virginia mountaineer oscar shebway substitutions for southern sears will get a breather for the jaguars had a great conversation with this young man earlier in the year oscar shivway that'll give another opportunity for kentucky on the offense chibwei shibley with an and one oscar sheblay racking up rebounds and points the beneficiary of one of his teammates getting the offensive rebound stick back ty ty washington just real comfortable ty ty is in all those situations small spaces he's able to work eight points and seven rebounds for shibuya now nine and when oscar sheboy told us at a shoot around earlier in the year he said you know rebounding for me i'm not even doing it for me i'm doing it for my family he's got so much family back in the congo native country and they don't have a lot he's really doing it to try to make a better life for them so he's got bigger things on his plate to worry about than your average 20 21 year old he'd make a lot of money just offensive rebounding just rebounding in general in transition washington oh washington a little dribble a little reverse hits the bottom of the backboard and then gets it back might be the most spectacular save we will see all week most athletic spectacular that that was a wide receiver treylon burks catching it and keeping his feet in bounds shivway was held on the drive best wide receiver in the country by the way who's that trailer arkansas he's awfully good best in the country he's awfully good that cat from alabama is pretty good i'll tell you who's pretty good there's somebody out there saving the day day by day for one coach cal we'll tell you about it when we come back now there you look at john calipari the longtime successful coach now in his 13th year with the wildcats and they say behind every successful man is a very very instrumental woman and in his case that would be mrs cal also known as ellen calipari this is just from the other day this is on instagram she's become a hit on instagram this guy guilty can't function without me i wake up to a missed call from my roommate and the alarm company he set off the alarm when the alarm company called he didn't give his name or know the password he said let me call my wife the police come bang on the door my apologies to the lexington police have a lovely day indispensable that look says it all right there i originally was told about mrs cowell's instagram falling by my wife who's a longtime kentucky native and kentucky fan and she said you've got to cover this you've got to follow this it's hilarious she never disappoints she pokes fun of coach calipari all the time obviously in a good natured way sure sure it is it's one of the more humorous follows you'll find on instagram congratulations on that and i was told by my coach nolan richardson many years ago we all need a point guard in life that's right so she can point out everything you should do wrong that's what that's what my point guard does yeah that's for some of us there's several things we do wrong the list is long and not very uh not very proud to admit that but it is what it is as you see southern just continuing to make plays that's pj bird whether it's been bird whether it's been sadler whether it's been lions they just will not go away the theme that i've seen when southern has made their runs on the half court offense has been kentucky just miscommunications open shooters and whether that's somebody is not yelling help uh they're putting themselves out of position but it's happened when southern went on their run the first half made a couple threes back to back that's what it was out of position defense tough take to the rim by keon brooks chance to cut it to single digits for the jaguars what do you want to see more out of in kentucky to help separate here from southern well southern give them a lot of credit because they're competing on the glass like they wanted to they are getting some turnovers from kentucky outside of the end of that first half where they weren't getting out to the three-point shooters i think that's sort of what opened it up for kentucky but outside of that man this other team is good and we we saw that yes it's been some of the kentucky's defensive miscommunication but southern can break you down we saw multiple times sadler do that on his own the degree of difficulty on saturn's one-on-one shots in that first half that was high high degree of difficulty rising for the rebound and rips down another one i believe that's nine now as he'll be flirting with yet another double double he's got six already this year that'll help three the hard way for oscar shebway that right there part of what you wanted to see in kentucky a good defensive stand on one end big oscar shebway getting to the block look at the position he has though he's got one foot in the blue all he's got to do is catch kellen grady good job of feeding it to him where all he had to do was catch turn and lay it in this young man is going to be a lot of fun to watch all year long we've got great guards in the sec this year that's already been well documented i can't wait to see some of the bigs battle this year with this guy for example how about a colin castleton of florida against oscar sheboy that'd be a fun matchup that's a lot of human being going at it right there now and this is not southern is too good of a team to just get blown out kentucky has got to continue to stick with their game plan and then hope to create some separation they gave sheboy the foul on this oscar and obviously the kentucky faithful wanted to jump ball on that one i didn't think it was i didn't think it was a foul i i don't i didn't think the whistle was going that way i must admit but she tagged for his third so that means he's going to have some bench time a 12-point game coming up on the 14-minute mark here at rupp arena where kentucky is 6-0 this year aliyu denied and a foul called on collins see southern isn't going to make too many mistakes come off that high ball screen everybody's in position where they need to be for southern that's a great pass where only his guy can catch it the call was collins got some of the forearm in addition to the ball tyrone lyons at the free throw line 79 on the year too strong on that one coach sean woods told us so what he's learned throughout his coaching journey cross your t's dot your eyes organization go through everything and you can tell it's a well-coached team guys in position where they need to be splits the freebies and it's back to an 11-point game you know this is the time of the game i'd like to see a little more of this man ty ty washington gets some looks get some shots and you see him turning into the lead guard roll that'll work too brady on an open three of a curl but can't find the mark loose ball scooped up by topping and back out to tie tie into the corner it's mints that'll be three directed short gets his own rebound drive and kick tie tie on a three too strong good looks for kentucky but no dice all three guards got a shot at that one and then on the response a mid-range pull-up by sadler sadler now with 14 points to lead all scorers and we'll see now don't really see kentucky have an advantage anywhere other than that great timing to say that damian collins is bouncy would be the understatement of the year just throw it to the rim young fella go get it just takes a second or two for him to start coming down after he hits his apex here's ty ty washington coming off that screen ty ty because such a good offensive player you need to help out hedge with that no help on the other side which i'm not so sure if there was help that damian collins wouldn't jump don't what i was gonna say like help is uh a very subjective word you gotta bump him outside of the paint so that he doesn't get you know once he gets on the runway it's over oh man remember like you know michael jordan the f-16 oh yeah once again on runway baby now get it get out on the way either get out of the way or get on a poster or was it these days nft right there's no posters anymore right oh i still have posters you do you yes you do keeping the posters alive mark aguirre and right well i didn't have a park you didn't i mean magic johnson respected his game out of depaul i had a bird poster number 13 to play foul down low trying to get collins out of there collins was trying to carve out some space in the lane good i like that forcing the issue in the paint got some size advantage for this kentucky team their best three-point shots are going to come from inside out in on the break with goodness mints hit the deck i believe he might have taken a shot in the head the alley 8 pass goes awry and southern has the ball the other way yeah mint's trying to get in the paint there and had damian collins and jacob top and both of them could have went either way oh yeah he just collided with ewing that's a that's kind of hitch you're going to see on saturday and sunday on the gridiron yeah that that time southern made sure that they had some rotation over the call inside well we got we got tony green with one call we got stephen anderson with another and tony green will prevail kentucky basketball tony green's been around the block a while veteran official got a good crew here tonight that was the right call topping did a good job of staying in front i think it was ty ty washington got his hand in there popped it off southern players nice entry pass inside to collins what does he do with it he gets rejected wow what a block that tie by ewing jump ball basketball to kentucky with 11 43 to play 53-42 we'll tell you more about this unity match-up between kentucky and southern both coaches very familiar with one another sean woods legendary kentucky basketball player joining forces with coach cal on the radio show over at malone's restaurant and you know to go back to the nil facet of this i was talking with eric lindsay who does a tremendous job as one of the sports information directors of kentucky basketball i mean i get how kentucky is getting all their deals this is as premier as it gets in college basketball they had 180 nil deals before the season even started but how does a smaller school like southern get that type of deal and he really illustrated every player can find some worth and value that could be marketable no matter what the school is no matter who the player is as mints fires went off to beat the shot clock i i thought it was fascinating because there were things i didn't think of that yeah there are some smaller school guys and for that matter a number of women's basketball players that are cashing in now on nil so it's not just the blue bloods that are going to reap the benefits of nil players from all kinds of schools can actually produce that that what college athletics has always been about is the community right because there isn't as many of the big name colleges out there so it's the community and you can have a player in the community of uh southern university that could have a huge impact okay and when you're talking about the nil to me it's always been freedom it's been the ability to do what you want you want to run a basketball camp in that community there is a local restaurant that wants you to sit and sign autographs for them or voice a radio spot or a tv spot it's just the ability to do so many different things it doesn't have to be yes kentucky's on the national scene but there's so many other communities that support their uniform college and university that it means a lot to them everybody doesn't have to make six figures five figures believe me luxury sports cars luxury sports we were both in college if i could have made tens of dollars i was happy okay so yes i think it's the community that's really going to be the difference for these uh colleges universities i think the american public wants to know what percentage of uh revenues do you make from the twitter account that is pat bradley's pocket square listen i cannot get that guy under control okay i mean that club he is just a strong take but right at top and i don't know if i'd recommend that top is not going to let you dunk over him and neither is damian collins who is back there as well a lot of guts right there that young man he was sizing up to oh oh right on college right at the end he knew he had no chance i'm just going to throw this right down at somebody it looked like a really good idea until he took off and then it was like what am i doing oh yeah then he fumbled the ball he's like uh oh it looked like a then it looked like a medicine ball 10-pound 20-pound medicine ball you just threw it down i don't think many are going to dunk on damien collins this year long three knocked down that's terrell williams that's only his second basket of the game and again here we are close to 10 minutes away from the second half of the second half if you will and it's just a 10-point game i mean you got to give southern a lot of credit sharon and damian collins was on rollins was defending damian collins right there got to take advantage of that kentucky post up right there good job good patience right now by southern mike again going back to the key for success for southern take care of the ball compete on the glass you just saw it over there nice take to the basket talk about right down the runway that's jaden sadler and all of a sudden it's back to single digits an eight-point game at rupp arena time out coach cal and kentucky without sheboy on the floor a different looking team we'll talk more about that when we come back coming up next it's the second game of our doubleheader tonight jd note leads a balanced razorback attack as number 12 arkansas plays host to charlotte that's right here on the sec network where she got devo davis jaylen williams has been playing out of his mind a moody transfer from south dakota and the pint-sized chris likes transfer out of miami some of the weapons you'll see this year for arkansas pat i want to go back to something we were talking about before the break the main weapon this year for kentucky has been oscar shebway he picked up that third plow he goes to the floor southern makes a run when he picked up the second foul in the first half he goes to the bench southern makes a run he's back on the floor now you can't help but notice when he's not out there kentucky looks a little frail not nearly as imposing something to look for when we get into conference play there's no question and and that's i think why cal what he said to us today at shoot around looking for somebody to get us points around the paint who can do that because yes when she weighs out of there not only we talked about it he's good for seven offensive rebounds a game but he finishes at the rim in transition two hands slammed by terrell williams it is a six-point game coming up on nine minutes to go okay compete on the glass check right southern's doing that then running an opportunity for an easy bucket they've done it all game a 7-0 run by the jaguars see we get an inside out move here good pass washington on a pull-up that's what i was waiting for more of in this second half i want a little more tie tie washington to my kentucky diet well you just got it my friend simple basketball get it to the big fella good job by shebway to keep the passing lane open and then ty ty obviously moving without the ball taitai had that rough opening game against duke since then he shot over 50 percent from the floor as a guard most decorated recruit freshman out of phoenix arizona keep in mind southern right now with 10 turnovers kentucky 13. i mean this kid sadler has made difficult shot at the difficult he is a tough shot maker first half he did it second half you need a guy listen that's instinct that's instinct to make shots like that it didn't look like he had anything and he just stopped on a dime in the paint and then surrounded by kentucky timber he gets it to go the man's breathing heavy right now too seth is asking for one sandler led away with 12 points in the first half he's got 18 meanwhile washington now ty washington with 10 points just the second wildcat in double figures 10 points three rebounds three assists do not call him tyrone jr ty ty is what he likes to be called and just the presence of shebway you saw that southern is understands if i don't get this sheba is going to get it two guys run into each other and end up going off of them but just having him on the floor good good things happen let's see if maybe we've got kellen grady getting a screen here brady's going to inbound it we saw a variety of inbounds plays at shoot around today yeah tries to hit the tie tie instead goes to shebay back out to washington washington defers to grady back to tai tai angles it in to shibuya like taking candy from a baby when he gets that kind of position down low and again it's just he's there's nobody that can match up with him physically and you got kellen grady on one side ty ty washington on the top you got two shooters there so it's going to be you double down on shibuy he's going to kick it right back out to those shooters drive and kick deep three on the way pops out halfway down for whitley and that'll bring us to immediate timeout as we step aside seven and a half to play it's still a nine point game at ruff time to check out the celebration moment of the game brought to you by allstate ty ty washington surveying the defense throws it up to damien collins damien six foot nine seven five wingspan and oh yeah about a 42 inch vertical leap one of those three things you can relate to mike morgan i've seen you jump i do have quite a wingspan thank you that's right yeah he is the the ultimate definition of bouncy and they'll continue to try and put some more weight and strength on that frame atlanta texas yeah i wasn't familiar with that texas has more towns named after it that are other towns in the united states than any state in the country i'm going to put my money on that sir we'll do a deep dive on atlanta texas during our next kentucky broadcast will do stay tuned for that now here we are a nine point game under seven and a half to play mike morgan pat bradley thank you for joining us on this tuesday evening little double double header action on the sec network blocked by brooks how about another block and how about the stick-to-itiveness third time is a charm for southern well that's not going to happen a lot to kentucky and you get to have do not take for granted that you got chibley out there going to get everything ty ty washington you got to get in there and fight kell and grady those are big guards okay that's a big play right there brady and quiet this second half sheboy has it now 15 points and eight rebounds southern's showing some real good patience too in the half court offense not rushing anything kentucky's got him trapped in the corner and causes the turnover chigwei to washington all the way washington makes it look easy as he glides to the rim just as i said how efficient they have been in their first in their half court offense they got caught in a corner with kentucky's length that's a death sentence it's a great time out by sean woods because you have to wonder if maybe southern starting to get a little bit winded against kentucky well what they do here kentucky coach cal understands i got to establish somebody in the post we've got to get some buckets right there at the rim we can't depend on three-point shot inside out three-point shot and inside-out scoring has been effective for kentucky too so you know after watching up till this point oscar shebway you trust him get in good position you trust him if you're the passer that he's going to catch it make a good decision with it now who else we've seen topping post up keon brooks damian collins you hope as the season goes along those same guys you can trust on the post too now that'll be the question for kentucky again when it's not sheblade you know who is it i mean my money would be on ty ty washington and he could be a great post player yeah you throw him in the post because cal said it today i don't care who it is right i just need somebody who i could trust down there yeah it's a great point doesn't have to be the center that's always leading your post-up game and ty ty has great vision too so under six to play here in lexington southern jaguars out of the swac they last made the ncaa tournament in 2016 they've made nine overall in their history very prideful program out of that lead look at sheeway running the floor big fella oh that's great that is great so oscar shebway he should get an assist for opening up that lane for keon brooks so my man battles could have got it he sprints look at what he does to clear out that whole lane beautiful and if keon brooks doesn't get that oscar shebway has a six foot three six foot four guy on him so he just runs turns opens up big and he's gonna lay up meanwhile keon brooks the junior out of fort wayne indiana misfires on the first this is a guy i i love how he has kind of morphed into his role i don't love those free throws for keon brooks i know he doesn't either but he's mastered his mid-range game he does all the little things and he realizes he's not out there to score 25 a night that's not his role every player that comes to kentucky thinks they're going to be everything it's like calipari told us a shoot around today we're like hawaii everybody wants to come here you know what a skill is to being tough playing hard having that edge right everybody needs that type of player on their team and he could be that guy defend the best offensive guy on the other team get offensive rebound stick backs play the pass in lane get on the floor 50 50 balls keon brook should say no no that's 90 10 if it's in my area sir or 100-0 though that's the kind of thing that he can make a difference on both ends of the floor 40 minutes game brooks gets it up top this is grady into the hands of washington down low to shebway who's been a one-man wrecking crew for much of this game and leading the way for kentucky and then a steal and then a slam by brooks no basket no basket hopefully washington is okay comes up with a little bit of a limp yeah great steal going to finish and i think he may have landed that's a great the pass right there led him to the basket sort of threading the needle but chibwe did a great job just going straight up with it not messing around with 17 points eight rebounds looking for his seventh double-double of the year blocked down to three and right on line from the wing a deep three for breon whitley now the last time southern got caught with the ball in the corner there turned out to be a steal and a dunk on the other end telegraphed that pass in transition slam dunk on brooks and a little look back from whitley to say don't even try that they've been quick out in that transition winning the turnover battle kentucky had taken care of the ball nice pass and getting it into the lane we are in the final segment of this game and it's single digits washington missed the leader there's shibley where would they be tonight without oscar shebway and that's what he gives you if you're a southern man you're doing everything right you're making shots getting steals just one thing that's difficult is keeping that big fella off the glass whitley's had the hot hand nice defense by grady baseline jumper an air ball and scooped up by wheeler and wheeler will say let's think about this take our time enjoy a 10-point lead and make a good decision inside shebway foul before the shot on the floor it'll go against southern and we will see free throws for the week come back 10 point game from rupp arena we thought this game would be fun for a number of different reasons you've got sean woods a homecoming coming back to where he started in college in lexington you have a number of different interesting side stories and we knew southern would battle and would be scrappy i can't say we knew that it would be a 10-point game with 2 45 to play and no sign of southern letting up great performance thus far by sean woods jaguar squad and remember they've played seven road games already i mean they have barely had enough time to have practices back at home so to say that they would have justification to be just a little bit on the fatigue side would be an understatement were those ours posted up for his rebounds like a pitcher has his strikeouts yeah absolutely one of those fans back there behind the goal has a sheboy rebound meter wow he is making rebounds sexy again and i'm all for it i never thought we'd be talking rebounding so much but here we are 20 21 it's been crazy so recipe for an upset southern has taken care of the basketball 13 turnovers to kentucky's 15. the glass game they've competed kentucky at plus 14 now but they're on average plus 16 in their opponent so they're compete where they need to number one rebound margin country and they're cleaning the glass is shebway he is everywhere tonight what a find out of the transfer portal out of west virginia for kentucky now two gonna have to hoist one up there in and out shebway cleans it up he's just too much down low to box out for an undersized southern squad going to work on sheboy turn around and shibuy picked up the foul that was damien sears daring to take it on the big man and that's the fourth foul on cheap way he'll learn not to foul in this situation that's part of the process and he is so big though that a lot of the regular actions he does guys are just bouncing off it's like the shack effect sears connects on the first one for kentucky after this game the schedule starts to beefing up a little bit they've got a gauntlet coming up soon on the 11th at notre dame at true road game that'll be on espn then ohio state in vegas and then louisville also on espn on the 22nd those are all in succession one two and three and before you know it we'll be in conference play there's that upcoming schedule like i said that notre dame ohio state louisville stretch that's it's another inside out three right there shebway not as deep of a post but drew plenty of attention made the right pass to get it out to grady for the three strong take by sears not afraid to go strong against sheboy and this sure this press here could get you in trouble gonna make free throws and southern is comfortable playing fast trapping scrambling getting turnovers that's their style they forced 20 a game so this sort of ending is something that they're comfortable with 30 second timeout on the floor 55 seconds to go kentucky kentucky leading southern and trying to improve to seven and one on the year and pick up its seventh consecutive victory next sunday afternoon will feature another great women's basketball rivalry match up the gators and the seminoles one o'clock eastern time florida men already snapped their losing streak to the knolls the women will try to snap a five-game losing streak that'll be right here on the scc network well as we get closer and closer to putting this one in the books pat brazzy what are some of your takeaways from what we've seen tonight well clearly oscar shebway is the straw that serves a drink albeit a gigantic straw yes it's a very big straw you see the effect he has you can look at it at the stat sheet nine for 11 11 rebounds two assists but it's him his impact and presence when he is on the court because he attracts so much attention from the defense i loved tonight he got the ball on the post he made always the right decision score over the smaller man nice post moves or kick it out to a shooter so that to me was really the story for kentucky tonight yeah every time kentucky found itself in hot water shebay bailed him out i mean he did just plain and simple she way in a game that maybe you didn't think you had to have this kind of performance you really did to win it 23 points 11 rebounds that's the seventh double of the season for shibuya that is the 19th for his career and the other thing was i know kentucky right now six for 20 from the three-point line but they made five in the first half and for this kentucky team you want to see them have success games where they do break through have eight nine ten uh just for their shooters listen man i'm a shooter i know how it is man i'm always pulling for these guys and it's a lot of mental you know how you see the game how you feel so well you know i i think a lot of people would be surprised because there have been so many great shooters several of them are already in the nba that have played for cal and have played for kentucky in recent years but here's the thing about when you when you look at kentucky statistically whether it's this year or in years past kentucky 133 three-point attempts coming into this game that's the fewest in the sec and typically coach cal teams do not shoot a ton of threes they win games down low they win games rebounding but this is a team if they wanted to open it up they've got some guys this year that they could be one of the better three-point shooting teams in this league we saw them get a lot of threes in transition block shots defensive rebound run salvia wheel is perfect at it right he's got mints he's got grady dante allen he himself can shoot the three we've seen keon brook shoot it now we got an inside out situation right throw it to the post kick it back out they're gonna coach cal says you can't miss them all and what he means by that is you have got to make make me five or six that's all we need to make we can't make zero because the d they they're so athletic you don't want defenses get comfortable packing in the paint uh and they will i think they definitely have a lot more three-point shoot threats than they've had in the past yeah i mean they're never going to be confused for alabama and the way they play right but they've got ample shooters on this team with brady good hands tie tie they're gonna let you go easy are they now no hey sean woods played like that too now he did it's the reason why he averaged 1.75 steals per game this has been such a fun trip i i know it's probably not going to end up the way southern would like it obviously in terms of the win-loss column but going back the last couple of days what they've been able to do off the court and then for shawn woods i showed you richie farmer in attendance today just to meet some old friends make some new friends make some new friends it's sort of like a tv sitcom sometimes you got to go where everybody knows your name and most people here in lexington know the name sean woods that's right that's a great experience for him and it was fun talking to him man he's he's got he's got a lot of passion yeah he does you know i thought it was interesting too we were talking more about that 92 game we said listen i played against shaquille o'neal twice a year the better player was christian laidner in college final 20 seconds and change here at rupp arena kentucky's going to improve to 7-0 it rupt 7-1 on the year and give southern credit a fine performance on the road representing the swac conference well hugs handshakes cal and sean woods at midcourt and kentucky will win it by a final score of 76 to 64. that'll do it for us here from rep arena for pat bradley mike morgan saying so long from lexington as we send it now to the studio
