Really, how about that C8 Corvette tho?

With the announcement of the C8 Vette, I have lost most of my interest for the Supra. It still looks great to me though and I would still like to drive one to see what it's like. Me being a tuner car enthusiast, I am still a little excited to see what the aftermarket support has in store for the Supra.

Don't know why are people complaining that much about the new Supra, to me it looks like a blank canvas ready to be painted as ever you like.

go yo how was first day with the Supra rubbish calls great but on my way home ten people said nice BMW what's this a letter came for you in the mail yeah in the mail yeah there's no mailing address and it's clearly your handwriting no how about that you're watching throttle house I'm Thomas and I'm James and these are two totally different cars let's do it oh yeah I know I have your oh my yeah we've all heard the story and the terribly overused jokes that this Toyota isn't actually a Toyota at all it's just a rebadged BMW yes the Supra has a BMW engine but the chassis itself was co-designed by the two manufacturers and once the basic structures were done the manufacturers said about tuning and perfecting their own cars in their own way so if that's the case then this shouldn't just be an alternative books to Cayman situation but rather they should feel like different cars so while they both have a BMW inline 6 engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger the said 4 has 382 horsepower while the Supra as 335 and 4 less pound-feet of torque and full less feet might not sound like much but that's the difference between a dog and the snake thank you for that James but some dyno results have yielded even higher numbers and in a drag race we've seen the Supra beat the BMW so today while we all going to do a naught to 60 test we're interested in which one of these is more fun and which is better value after all the z4 that we're testing today is Spector $20,000 Canadian more than the Supra if you're new to throttle house we do car reviews track tests and quite a lot of messing around so subscribe and hit the bells Supra said for m40 I or Z 4 depending on where you're from we've been living with these calls for a week so the spin first drives has been track drives we're gonna discuss how they're different and what they've been like to live with this has the b-58 engine the same engines in the Supra but it has more horsepower there's a lot of things that I like about this car and there's a lot of things that I don't like let's start the good stuff I love the engine and transmission the whole drivetrain the whole straight-line experience of this car is fantastic it revs really hard all the way to 6,500 RPM and the torque is pretentious it's fantastic and it makes a really really good noise so I know the engines and the chassis and a lot of the components are exactly the same but let's have a little bit of fun let's do a 0-60 test ok before we start this 0 to 100 kilometer per hour test you should know that these were real world tests and were timed individually so if they don't line up perfectly here that's just the video we did multiple runs in the results were very consistent but these numbers are close enough that it makes no difference there you go that was actually kind of interesting but you know what either way at least they both have six cylinders in the turbocharger all right so we have 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and that torque is available to you from 1600 rpm it is so usable the power in this car and it's not so much that I can't use it on the road this on the road is a joy and that is something I give it great credit for so this is about 3400 pounds that's 600 pounds more than a Toyota 86 but it has a lower center of gravity and it has a shorter wheelbase this drives lighter than it is and it gets a lot of flack for not having enough power but if you floor in this car to spin the rear wheels and it sounds excellent the in-cabin sound is incredible as you're ever my hangs on up shifts and it pops like crazy on deceleration like an f-type but if you want you can shut it up with comfort mode which is a mode I've barely used this week because this car gives you so much more back in sport mode this makes a lot of pops and bangs in sport mode on the up shift it kind of lumps and it gurgles a little a little on the downshift it's a really really exciting exhaust and I think it's basically exactly the same as the Supra James doesn't seem to think so so you think you can tell the difference between the exhausts absolutely possibilities are different cars like this this meme of them being the same car and they have the same engine you know that right different tuning and different things enough that the exhaust sound different alright well tie this around your face the branded sponsored by throttle okay okay turn around well if I'm Tony around what's the point in applying bulletin you do realize I think I okay you're gonna stand right here alright you have no idea what car you're near right now don't move I started out okay we're just cool okay okay don't move okay no idea all right which is which the last one is the Supra yeah you're right yeah and for your consideration but as great as the sound is there's a big issue with this car having lived with it with both windows down at speeds over 70 kilometers an hour that buffeting is insane completely untenable and that really upsets me because I love cruising with the windows down so it ruins the high-speed experience at this car if you want the wind in your face the steering in this car is really dead on center right here there's nothing but as soon as you get it loaded into a corner like this you feel the weight and it's it's fun it's quite lively but where this car wins is cruising refinement with the top up it is so quiet there's an extra obvious layer of insulation right here and on the highway you can have a conversation and then you put the top down and it's still quiet if a Miata is up here on the highway the said four is down here on the highway the steering this car is quite weighted action it has really good on center feel there's not much of a numbness in the middle so on the highway it's actually easier to live with because it's not as twitchy on the center so it feels that grand tourer or better but on the back road like this the front end grip is excellent to the turnin is wonderful the car is lively it's fun it's stiff the way it rotates it communicates with me and the puffing exhaust adds just such a level of theater to this car so as aggressive as this looks on the outside I've only beeped at someone once in this car and that's not because Toronto drivers have been behaving themselves it's because the when I beat to someone they laughed at me I'm actually gonna flag Thomas down I gotta I gotta show him this one little thing alright you pulled me over so I could hear something yeah the exhaust may sound good but the the whole one is so embarrassing if it sounds like some kids first trumpet place that thing okay hey just wait that is ridiculous it's embarrassing listen to mine this is totally different ready okay not to call home that's a car horn yeah back on the road okay okay now the biggest issue that I have with this car and this is actually a very big issue is there's something bizarre about the damping it's like it's not matched to the springs properly in comfort mode on the straight it's fine it does a little bit of side-to-side stuff but when you get it into a corner if the corner is anything other than perfectly smooth pavement there's a ton of grip and what it does when it starts to reach the limit of tractions that it translates the horizontal movement to vertical movement and you get this bounce in this chop and it is furiously annoying and then in sport mode as you're going around the corner it it just chops over the bumps it's really really strange the way that it does it it does not feel button-down the car feels stiff but it's well damped I feel really in control and in normal mode I'm shocked at how livable this car is the 86 ride is way harsher should they meet this car in a manual yeah absolutely and there's rumor that they might do it but both these cars today have the ZF 8-speed gearbox which I've made friends with I really like it basically I've loved living with this car it's so fun to drive and somehow I've got nine point five liters per hundred kilometres and fuel economy which is really good so both of these cars have the m electronic differential I guess it wouldn't be called an M differential in the Supra but they both have LS DS which means that in a straight line if you dump the brake and hit the gas you can light the rear wheels up and around a corner too much throttle means you have smooth power oversteer in both of these cars so I want to drive James's Supra to find out how these cars like the minutiae of how they're different but before we do that we have to talk about the styling all right I love the way this thing drives what about the styling now that's where it falls down a little bit okay first of all this car has got more attention than any car I've ever driven and I'm trying to think of a car under $200,000 that's ever got this much attention may be due to the hype a little bit though I think the i8 is the last car that got this but really on the road listing I had one kid fully Kirby at me fully what Kirby he when people stopped me so I've had kids stop me I've had people follow me on the highway to try and get close to me and I've even had policemen stop to talk to me it is the police the police didn't stop you because they wanted to talk about the styling though that was that was for something else moving on yeah so I think the rear is stunning this is the best part of the right here it's like this it borrows perfectly from the ft-1 concept yes this giant thing that like hip that hip is so good however yeah let's say this there are lots of fake butt sis there's like six and I don't know why there's there's so many this whole panel is like stuck on yeah dedicated to this fake vent it is absolutely bizarre and not acceptable this should be to release pressure in the hood like what I don't know why it's bizarre and also the wheels the chrome looks like 80s Miami and not a good way okay this doesn't get any attention on the road really no it is such a lovely red in fact both paint jobs are awesome this nitro yellow it's badass ya know the color is lovely and the styling is well proportioned it is very much a Zed for it's got a muscular it accomplishes the Zed for thing very well it's real it's real I like this kidney grille it is not ridiculous like some BMW kidney grilles that are happening right now somewhat but honestly though otherwise this it doesn't really inspire that wow look at that type of thing no I mean like it's it's fine it looks good it's obviously a roadster but people do not turn their heads at this car so I mean it is well I mean but it achieves sporty grand touring roadster I think it looks no it does I agree looks like that I agree interior this is Supra okay alright super interior yes now the first thing you'll hit with and you'll probably be able to see this is dark very dark in yes very Camaro like actually really low yeah the visibility's is slightly better than Camaro but this comes down quite a lot yeah on the side the rear of a Mazda 3 hatch exactly right yeah for a helmet though this would be better for the track and there's no sunroof lower center of gravity so you have space for a helmet obviously yeah ok the rest of this this is this BMW in his all BMW but it's last gen BMW which means I like it better yeah you like this hard drive I like I like the old I Drive better how does the apple carplay work though intermittently yeah so it doesn't is what yourself I have a similar story of it I think why does call plate got to brave and they stopped asking whether it should and just whether it could okay the materials in here are not super stellar sixty-five thousand also my only spot that I can put my elbow here goes into a couple yes everyone is complaining about that that's a little bit strange it's a little bit strange yeah this real carbon fiber though yeah and the seats I find it's very comfortable they're actually not too narrow for me which is nice steering wheel what do you think crime it is absolutely it's unacceptable though that doesn't look nearly good enough why is this why is the air bag so big for safety and that's not as much of a problem with that as I do with this filled with plastic yeah like when this is a gap it makes the thing we've got so much more premium yeah and however I do love the gauge cluster yes at nighttime when you can't see any of the plastics is such a lovely screen yep although you see that negative space yeah you know that's useful like warnings just think you're too close to the car in front or a door is that for that all a whole thing the whole thing as far as I've been able to tell that's pretty dumb yeah they could have done something more fun than yeah but I have a head-up display which is pretty nice oh nice okay I like the JBL sound system okay yeah I'm not sure it's worth the full 65 thousand dollars you can even in here but well that's good you go driver you want to see what eighty thousand dollars can he looks like on the inside okay new gen BMW S I refuse to review this interior again James I refuse that's fair don't know why why you know why is it cuz it's the same as all the other one every other being yeah this is same climate control same knobs like the only difference between this and the m8 50 is that this isn't a crystal shifter in a crystal knobs and a crystal well they're still volume up but the rest of it is absolutely tentacle except this is a smaller version of the gauge coaster that I don't like so I have to look at it also apple carplay does not work it will come up a little gone and then I have to reconnect and read delete everything it's an absolute it takes getting into something else that just has normal plug-in car plate if you like yes materials are very nice everything wonder where's that extra 20 grand yeah everything's very well built though like it's very solid you know it's like the seats are so comfortable really nice the sound system is solid and there's more color going on here yes the refinement levels are really really good also check out how fast this soft table is Thirteen's accom well oh wait no sorry I pushed the parking brake because they're the exact same button in there right engaged really quick yeah and a bit like that couple done ten seconds ten seconds that's really good are we gonna put that back open now so we can continue talking check out where the cup holders are explain that to me oh that's annoying explain that to me the wall here yeah how do you how do you use them so if you have a cup you can you do quiet I don't take drinks in my car I always do it was a coffee or something it's just ridiculous how can you drive a false roaster with coffee otherwise this is fine the visibility is great it's a soft table I like it here yeah all right said for m40 I obviously normally and have the roof down but for the sake of the camera in the microphone I can't but that's now this car is best enjoyed and probably the biggest advantage over the Supra it feels more BMW to drive immediately there's there's like a weight to the car even though it doesn't it's not heavier it feels smoother more reserved tell you're a Supra in a straight line it doesn't quite feel as fast as I said four but you'll never hear me complain about that I'm never about ultimate top speed I'm more about the experience of driving it and right away I can tell you that this feels like much more of a sports car and I suppose that's the point essentially this car massively succeeds at being the Z version of the m3 40 I live recently driven I have found several destinations each one should I throw destination please thank you it may succeed at being is that for but it doesn't succeed no no all right it's so much more lively the steering on center is better than the said four I don't like the steering wheel nearly as much as I said four but it feels really sharp in the the noise is sharper everything about this car is a little bit more crisp than the said fours therefore it's definitely aimed at cruising which I guess makes sense okay this is an easy one to conclude this is a gentleman's sports cruiser the price tag is high and this one's fully Specht out so I personally enjoyed the Supra more because for me if I was going to get Roadster Miata is always the answer although their level of refinement with the roof up is it feels like a normal hardtop car whereas the Miata is isn't Miata I really do like this engine and the 8-speed ZF transmission is very very fast do I wish it had a manual yes obviously I do and so does everybody else when you're over a manual mode you downshift you get pops and bangs and the up shifts are lightning quick the damping is it's a little bit choppy kind of like I said for but it's not nearly as bouncy it's it's a different setup internet experience of the Supra where they messed up and it's just a BMW has not been my real-life experience with the Supra everyone who's seen it has loved it and driving it is an absolute joy the numbers are just noise otherwise now I know that these cars share components I know they share a platform and an engine but driving them they are different they have been tuned differently you must believe us on that stop calling this at BMW because it's not yes it literally has BMW written on the ignition coils I get that but as an experience it's different which one would I take the Supra and I think it's $65,000 it actually makes sense to me I've heard that in America they're giving a crazy $30,000 markups don't buy it for that and in terms of how its set up and the overall experience of driving it I would take this Supra over the set for any day of the week maybe it's because it's the most exotic looking car this side of 65 grand or maybe it's because it really was a joy to drive and live with for the week but the Supra was the obvious choice for the two of us I think a lot of that is down to the fact that there is a vacuum in sports car options between something like a BRZ on the lower end and a Porsche a hole that the Supra feels quite nicely and if the rumors are true and there is a third sports car headed to the Toyota lineup then my votes on an mr2 please for now though I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with their new Supra how about that CA Corvette though Shh
