is the cayman base interior that disappointing?
I LOVE the Supra, but I'd take a Cayman over it any day.
I want to like the Supra, but man, I haven't hit my head against the roof of a car (getting in) that hard in a long time, LOL. BAM. I'd have to work at it a bit to get in that car every day without giving myself a concussion.
After spending 2 days whipping a 718 Cayman S around Barber Motorsports Park and through an autocross....it is an incredible bargain and I cannot possibly imagine how I would choose a Supra or M2 over it. Unless 1) I can't afford the Cayman or 2) really need the additional utility of the M2.
I think the M2 is after a different market here. Compare to the rs3 and cla45 and suddenly itβs got the best steering.
I've got to agree with Paul and Todd about BMW steering. It's garbage. I just drove a couple BMW products yesterday (first time in 2 years) and had forgotten how bad it was. The chassis balance and drivetrains are very good, if not excellent, but the steering was absolutely, completely dead. It was far more numb than even my Golf R, which I thought was bad. I now have a new yardstick for numb steering.
It befits a luxury product and not a sports car, and for that simple reason I'd go with the Cayman, even if the drivetrain is inferior for the money.
Fellas, is the M2 a sports car?
I'd take the 718 in manual first, than the M2C manual then the Supra. If they were all automatic I'd take the Supra. If the Supra came in manual I'd take the Supra over the other two.
A manual Mark 5 Supra in Nitro Yellow or the new A91 Refraction Blue special edition would be awesome. I'd probably sell my C8 that isn't even here yet for a manual Mark 5 Supra.
I've driven the M2C and Cayman extensively. I and most reviews (including a recent comparison test by Motor Trend) agree that the Cayman is technically a better sports car since it is a sports car from the ground up, but the M2 is in some ways more fun since it's a total hooligan and visceral driving experience. Steering in the Cayman is more talkative but the M2's steering is one of the better EPS on the market.
One of them will be my next car. :)
By the way, Jason Cammisa had the exact opposite impressions of these guys when it came to the M2 CS vs Supra. He basically said the M2 trounced the Supra in every way imaginable.
