2020 Lance 1985 Tour

we bought a lance travel trailer and we're going to give you a complete tour of it in this episode of travels with delaney [Music] welcome back everyone my name's patrick and if this is your first time here at travels with delaney welcome we're your channel all about rving and living life to the fullest so recently we sold our new camp tab 400 which we absolutely loved for the last two and a half years but we decided it was time for something a little bit larger and we chose this 2020 lance model number 1985. now this trailer is 23 feet 3 inches from tongue to bumper and it weighs in at about 4 900 pounds the way we have it outfitted and we can load it to 5700 pounds so let's go ahead and start with a complete tour of this trailer now we purchased this trailer down in round rock texas from our good friends at princesscraftrv i'll go ahead and link their website down in the description for this video so you can check out all the trailers regardless of what you're looking for they have everything from truck campers to teardrop trailers all the way up to these beautiful lance trailers that like we purchased so let's start on the outside right up front now this is a late 2020 and so i like to refer to it as a 20 20 and a half and there's a couple major upgrades and this is why we really wanted the 20 20 and a half number one this front window had been a stationary glass window in the early 2020s but on these late model 2020s it became one of these plastic style european windows that you see on like our tab 400 and it opens and we really like that so this stargazer window can be open allows a lot of air in at night now the lance also came with these three yep i said it three 20-pound propane tanks so you have two that are actually hooked up and then you have a third one in reserve so in essence you have the same as 230 pounders on this trailer but one of the nice things is if you ever get to a place and you can't get the tank filled you can always just exchange these 20 pounders out and that just makes a nice feature and they're hidden in this plastic cover this trailer also came with the smart jack system now we did not have an electronic jack on our tab 400 and honestly i was never a big fan of electronic jacks they're not the fastest in the world in fact i normally can crank faster but i really do like this one number one it can be programmed to set it to the height that you want for hitching up and it also has a built-in feature where if you tap this arrow three times and on the third time you hold it eventually it will start bringing itself up and you can walk away you don't have to stand there and hold the button on it so i really like that now here in the front we do have this protective piece down below but they have built in some led lights for you there's a switch in the outdoor storage and that way if it's nighttime and you're hitching up it's going to give you just a little extra light one other feature that i really like up here is they built in this little holder so it's a place where you can put your seven pin connector and your chains just keep them hung out of the way now we're gonna go ahead and move around to the side lance on this 1985 and actually several other models have built in the battery compartments and there's one on each side so you can have two batteries on your trailer which we do they're vented and they come on these pull out trays so if you're running lead acid batteries it just makes it a lot easier to be able to check water levels and refill them now we had our battleborn batteries installed so we're running two 100 amp hour lithium batteries on this trailer now right down here in this compartment you're gonna find the controls for our electronic stabilizers now this is an option which did come on our trailer here you have the power button just turn it up like that and then you can extend or retract this controls the two stabilizers on this side and then there's going to be another compartment like this on the other side that's going to control those now this was a feature on the 2020 late models that i really like before this is one big pass-through storage but in these later models they put in this vented door and then closed it to act as a generator compartment so you could actually store a generator in here now i was really excited about this except our harbor freight predator 3500 watt generator it's too big to actually fit in here so something more like the the honda 2200 would fit in here just fine they even include tie down straps for you your battery shut off is also located in here as well as a wrench that's used on your crank downs and different places on the trailer now another nice feature having to do with this is right up under here i'm going to just kind of pull the camera down and you can see there they have included a toy lock now you just go ahead and take that padlock off pull that cable out wrap it through your generator your bicycles or whatever and you put it right back through and that way they're at least locked to the frame of your trailer so i really like that how they've integrated that one last feature right in this area is this extra metal storage box that they include and it's not super large but it is big enough for me to put my 50 foot um hose in here and that's where i'm storing it and the nice thing is because it's metal and then there's little openings where the water can run out i don't have to worry about that so any extra space you get on a trailer to me is really a bonus now this valve right here that actually goes up under that's to drain your fresh water tank and i love this because i don't know if you can see that but normally a lot of times they put these real small drains look at the size of that you're going to be able to dump this fresh water tank pretty quickly if you need to speaking of tank sizes 45 fresh 45 gray 45 black on this trailer this trailer is a four season trailer and we really like that because we're gonna do some winter camping and even this summer when it's been hot we've noticed it helps to keep the trailer cool one of the features of that four season package are all of the windows are double pane now in our slide out which we'll look at when we get inside the two side windows do not open the downside is you don't get any airflow but i think they did it because if you would forget to put those windows in then you would have a cracked window so but these outer windows do open right here we have another really nice size storage and i love the magnetic latches but you can see here this is actually under the dinette and it's a nice deep storage actually have my little blackstone grill in there and my camping chairs keeping a lot of stuff in this one now this is one of the few compartments that does not have the slam latch feature pull around to this side and here's another outdoor storage you notice here we got those slam latches one thing i want to point out i don't know if you can tell how thick these doors are most travel trailers are about half that thickness and again i think that's all part of that four season package here we have a nice size outdoor storage area again we had them install at princess craft a watt inverter the whole trailer is wired to that so every outlet will run off of it it's also our battery charger for our lithium batteries 30 amp service this is going to be your satellite and cable hookups black tank flush here's your city water and of course they include an outdoor shower that has both hot and cold now we'll move around to the back side of the trailer and you can see it has a bumper i'm actually storing my 15 foot sewer hose in there here's your water heater and then they do include a ladder it's going to take you up top to the walkable roof now this is the roof on top we do have a 13500 btu air conditioner there's a fantastic fan up on the front and we went ahead and put a max air fan cover on when we picked up the trailer this one also came with the optional roof rack system so if you had maybe like a canoe or a kayak you could store that up here we went ahead and installed a 190 watt solar panel but there's definitely room for at least one more maybe two and then this is going to be the skylight for the shower and the fan for the bathroom and again we went ahead and installed a max air fan cover on that we like to keep those open even when it's raining there is an option to get a backup camera from lance installed ours didn't come with one so i went ahead and installed one myself it's the halo view rd10 i have a video on that i'm gonna go ahead and link up top for you if you're interested if your trailer doesn't have one on this side of the trailer you're gonna find your refrigerator vent the second vent for the refrigerator is actually up on the roof and what's nice is it allows the hot air to flow straight up and out and it's been working great on propane we also have our furnace vent here and then along the side here is a mount it comes with a bracket so if you want an outdoor tv you can you have 110 plugs here that you can plug into but then they also give you 12 volt in case your tv is a 12 volt hookup and there's usb ports so it's really nice if you're sitting out here you can have your cell phones charging with you right there your potable water fresh tank is right here so you would fill up on this side of the trailer and this is just the vent for that and again here's a another one of those double paned windows we do have two speakers outdoors and we have this light one of the things i love about this light is it's a toggle switch that can either be in the position of off bright white or that yellow amber color that you know won't attract bugs quite as bad now i mentioned already this is a four season trailer which means things like it's fully enclosed the tanks are heated even the valves are heated on this trailer they're up under where that heat from the furnace is it came with this nice handle we also have the electronic keypad which is really nice feature we've never had one of these i wasn't sure about it but on this trip we are absolutely loving it and i like these aluminum steps they're lightweight easy to take in and out and just really nice and then you can see another one of those big windows this is going to be in the bedroom which we'll show you when we get inside now finally finishing up out here this is that pass-through storage i was telling you about and we have the upgraded tray which is awesome and you can see i can just go ahead and pull the tray out and this thing goes way back there the tray can actually be completely removed if you want to clean it out and then it just locks into place the other thing is lance includes this little plastic folding table with notice these brackets that it sets on i've actually used that a lot that's what i use my black stone on and just makes it real easy and again here's that other battery compartment here's those buttons for the stabilizer jacks on each side for this side and then it also comes with this solar on the side plug so if you have one of those portable solar suitcases you can plug in right there the last couple things on the outside i want to mention number one is tires i was so impressed when we looked at this trailer because lance is using goodyear endurance tires now these are good tires this is what i was getting ready to put on our trailer because they get good reviews they're a good quality tire and i was really excited that this came with good tires i wasn't gonna have to replace them right away and then finally this big awning now i love this awning number one the underside is not pure white i love that they went with the gray scaling it won't get it won't show the dirt as bad it'll still get dirty but it won't show the dirt is bad and you can see here looks really nice gives us lots of shade it has the built-in led lighting strip up here and it's also what they call an armless awning notice the arms are up here they're not coming out where you're going to hit your head this is a one touch awning which means push the button it'll take itself out and push the button again it'll bring itself in it also has the wind sensor so if it gets really windy and it starts flopping it's going to bring itself back in the only thing the only thing i don't like about this awning is with this door placement the door has to be closed for the awning to go in or out if not you're going to end up hurting something either the door of the awning so that's the only real issue so if it starts getting it all windy we either bring the awning in so we can keep the door open or we keep the door closed so we can keep the awning out that's the outside now let's go in and check out the inside and look who we have inside special appearance for this tour video it's truman and bess and patty so patty do you want to go ahead and give everybody kind of a tour of the inside of the trailer sure love the bed area that's one of the reasons we like lance you can have the walk around bed and it's a residential queen size yup uh off to the side we each have our own wardrobe and it is so deep in here i could put my whole arm down to my armpit clear to the back and that's how big it is and like i have set up some shelving back there and got my clothes stacked and removed from my hangout clothes and yours is just like that yep i'll come over and show them mine and we just installed these little motion lights that seem to be working not so well we'll go ahead and turn that in but you can see how deep these go way back and you can really tell the depth from the outside and then right below patty and i both have these pull out drawers that again are nice and deep and all the drawers in the trailer are soft closed plus on the sides here we have 110 outlets 12 volt usb ports that's the switch for the lighting around the bedroom area but patty has everything the same on her side except for you just don't have a light switch so the light switch is only on one side but you have the 110s and the 12 volt outlets so we'd love because we can both have our phones charging on each side when we go to bed nobody's handing a phone to someone or anything i don't have an extra port to charge my watch so you have two usbs on each side um what i like also is the blinds we have we'll watch your crank look in the window yep they're like the jealousy style windows you just kind of they have a turn crank this one's a little tight but anyway you have those cranked out this flips back in and then you have a nice day shade if you would like that and we have found out that that does block some wind yeah so yeah we found the day shades actually do and then you have the nice night shoe that you can pull down at night and what's crazy is these are the style of roller shades that you would see in like the high-end motor coaches so i mean they're really nice and then we love this is a true stargazing window because your heads are laying under the window and now that we're currently in montana boy at night this big montana skies you really can see the stars and this window also has the shade and it has the night privacy shade so if you want privacy just pull that down there's also in addition to the accent lighting we have these nice lights on each side so if we want to read in bed or something at night we can do that you do paddy have this privacy curtain in case we ever had somebody stay with us we could actually pull that and close off the bedroom area and then you want to tell them what's on this wall that comes with the landscape it's crazy they give you a howard miller clock yeah if anybody who's not familiar with howard miller they make really nice grandfather our anniversary grandfather clock is a howard miller yeah and it just comes with their lance trailers you have a remote that we hung it here it goes to the fantastic fan right and that's a 10-speed um it does run off the 12-volt system you can have air in air out and it does have a rain sensor although we put a max or fan cover so we just leave it open at all times this is our control for our air and our heat right now it's off but if i push this button i can scroll through fan i can go to cool i can do cool auto which would be the air and then finally i can get to heat that we've had to use here in montana and then off i mean another 110 outlet these are nice cubbies they said for magazines but i use it for puppy gear yep i'm right here now let's show them what we really love about this bed so with this model of lance you can either get just the standard queen bed or you can get the convertible queen bed which is what we ended up going with and so what it does is we got to get truman off of here because you never want to convert the sofa while your puppies are on it yeah so we'll go ahead and get that moved and then let's see if patty can do this yep the mattress just folds in half now some people including us were concerned about a folding mattress but i left the pillows and stuff back yeah if you take the pillows off that folds much flatter but what we did was just to kind of smooth it out and i may have to help patty here nope nope she says let her do it and you can see we end up with a jackknife sofa and what's really nice is under the jackknife sofa is additional storage and then patty's going to pull out it actually comes with arms yep this is this side that you can put on your sofa and they just kind of lock into place there just well maybe not quite like that but there's a slot where they go that's good patty you wanna show them the other one okay we'll grab that other i can get it truman's gonna help you there it is and again that's a nice deep under storage we definitely are not lacking for storage and there you go and you can see so now go ahead and put that back up and patty now has a couch so her and truman could sit here and just relax but what's nice is to take it down you just pull the arms off you won't even have to carry the arms if you didn't want to so the reason we went with this this is an upgraded feature but we felt like if we didn't get it we would never know whether we would use it but if you just get the stationary bed then it's really not an option so we figured if the mattress was just unbearable we'd just go out and buy a really good mattress and never use the sofa but like i said so far the mattress is fine we put a two and a half inch memory foam on it and we're having no issues with it what i also love patty is when we're sitting on the couch we have direct line of sight to the tv so your entertainment center is over here you have the big jensen tv and the jensen stereo you can see there's a little cubby under here currently we have things like our laptop and our gopros there's a 12 volt outlet here a 110 there's a place to bring satellite in and your your antenna adjustments are up here so it's really nice because it's straight on or you can enjoy my favorite spot is the slide out dinette area this dinette is huge it is huge it is so comfortable we've had distancing with friends we had four of us eating in here on a regular basis and patty's turning on the light and that's a dimmer switch for your dinette yeah and you have some nice as you already showed the windows yep and this color pattern is what's known as roadster it's like a brown leather wrap we thought this would be best for us because of the puppies it's just easy cleanup i've already just used the swiffer duster to get especially bessy hair her hair is falling out like crazy but it's easy to clean this table will actually go down and you move cushions and this will make a uh basically close to a full-size bed i believe so i think two adults could sleep on this comfortably and then show them one of the bonus features of this dinette this is crazy so it's got a push button lock and i open and this is where we keep a lot of food yeah and it just keeps going and going and going and i want to show you the craftsmanship of lance look at these on these here they're the dovetail yeah nice thick wood we keep our food here of course the puppies get their own yeah puppies get their own and again just keep pulling that out to show them this thing is massive look at this it's huge and nice and deep yep so that's a really nice feature and then their patty at the bottom of that entertainment center you want to show them we call this our little pantry yeah but there are shelves and you can adjust those are adjustable vegetables it's not necessarily real deep you can see the cans of food in there it's probably two cans of food deep but again any storage in a travel trailer is good it's good all right let's move over to the galley or the kitchen i did want to show this so right above they give you this some people have varying opinions on this i actually like it i think it's a classy look and the screen door for at night has its own shade so because there is the window in the door and that way you have privacy there and then as you walk in you're going to find the control for your slide out in and out and i love the way lance labels everything it used to be when we bought travel trailers i'd have to get out the label maker to know what the switches were but here you'll see up here it says interior lights are these two switches so you've got um the mood lights and you have your courtesy lights which are going to be overhead the red light is for your awning now the reason they use a red switch here is so that when the awnings rolled up you wouldn't be able to see those lights on and you wouldn't want to necessarily have them on so especially if you're boondocking so that's how you know it's on and then this is that patio light like i said if you toggle the down i think down is maybe yellow and toggle up is white and in the center is off here you're gonna have your on off switch for your awning i love that because if you turn it off then there's no way it can accidentally go out um and then it's extend or retract and again that is one push just push it once and it either goes in or out depending on which way you're going with it so here off the side of the kitchen we have a 110 outlet and we have a little extension for the countertop again just a little extra space if you're doing dishes show them this sink this is amazing i like these i use them already as like cutting boards i just slide them over here and the sink is so deep i like how it has this lip here so no water can go anywhere and i turn it on i pull down for cold now i can change it from that and it's push button and and i can do this yeah this is like nicer than our kitchen sink at home um again i don't know if i would use those as an actual cutting board you set stuff on them yeah not like cut anything yeah but and then i just put like right hot stuff on it and then you do have a window here that also opens you have a little rack up here where you could set things and then this cabinet and i love this because this kind of incorporates that euro styling it's rounded and when you open it lights come on up top and again this shelf could be removed but we're actually using it for dishes and coffees and things like that so that's a really nice cabinet underneath you got tons of storage these are so deep um you just have to kind of work around some of the pipes these have some nice pull out and go ahead patty and why don't you pull one of those all the way out to show how easy this is they literally pull out that way if you wanted to like take them inside and load them you can bring them back out to the trailer when you're at home yes and they just slide right back in yep and there's three of those in there which are real nice you have a 110 now this is something i'm going to be honest i don't really like this here because when you plug the coffee maker and you have to bring it around to the front i would have rather been someplace else but my guess is there's a reason why and um you know it's one of those things it's not a deal breaker by any sense so let's start up top here microwave and microwave is an option this trailer came with the microwave you also have the option of doing a convection microwave in here yeah and then you have your hood which is a fan that's vented outside in a light yeah and then the three burner stove now we're missing a screw it came loose we can't find it so princess craft is going to send us a new one but i came up with a fix for the trip i love this cast iron grate and go ahead and um can you hold on let's go ahead let's see if i can do that it has the built-in striker i don't know if you saw me do that um i love that now the oven you still have to do and again the oven is an option i personally wouldn't have gotten the oven i would have had the convection microwave which went down here if we had custom ordered it and then had extra space up top but it actually is a nice size oven i know it's not going to show up on camera but this one you still have to manually light with a lighter to get the pilot light going but the top is nice because i don't have to use a lighter anymore nice big fridge and freezer yup so go ahead and show them how big i forgot what having a big this is a 7.0 cubic foot refrigerator look at this freezer space we have a lot of meat in there we have two half gallons of ice cream we have breakfast sandwiches in the door and now this is loaded this is loaded because we just went to the grocery yesterday but we got it full but look at this i mean we even have a pitcher of iced tea big crisper drawer and then you got three trays on the side one things i love about this is and you're not gonna be able to see it there are like little fingers right here that hold things that help hold things on the door so i really like that here is going to be the lights for the kitchen you've got your sink lights you've got your soffit lights and again everything's labeled here is that little standard control panel we have the water pump we have water heater gas water heater electric and then this is where we can test things like battery level fresh tank black tank gray tank now we did upgrade like i said earlier and had solar added and this is where the gopower solar control panel goes and you can see it shows we're taking in some sun and you can kind of flip through that so if you don't have solar then that's not going to be there for you most likely i think that's about everything now i will mention we love this don't we paddy these ducks for the heat yeah they're not in the floor right and why don't we like them in the floor well with all the trailers we've had we've had a bunch that have been in the floor they just accumulate dirt dog hair dog food anything you drop so you're constantly like us we were cleaning them out because when it did come time to use it it would just blow all that junk all over the place so with these being in the side you they won't collect now the ac unit is not ducted in the lance trailers so it's up here that's one of the things we were iffy about but honestly so far i'm okay with it i think it's working well it gets as cool yeah it definitely cools it's it's just something you gotta get used to right um because you know certain trailers if they're quieter than others and this was not bad at all no and there were three options i think there was like a 10-5 a 13-5 and a 15. this is the middle one and it's doing a great job of cooling the other thing i know i missed it's a skylight it doesn't open but it does let in a ton of light and i love the fact that they included the shade so if it's getting hot out and you want to block it the other thing you might notice here is there are snaps around all the vents because it's a four season trailer they actually include covers for all of these so you can go ahead and kind of close those off especially in the winter um all right so now we're down to the bathroom which is in the back now the 1985 is similar to the 1980 or the 1995 but we really like the 85 because the whole back of the trailer is your bathroom so off to this side you have a really neat shower i like the shower and it's kind of like a rubber shower curtain and it's not like a trailer it's on a track that will if you push it all the way back will lock into position and stay open and it's got the skylight which gives us plenty of room it's got some built-in trays and then look at this really nice shower head it's on the sliding bar it came with a soap dish and we love the single lever handle yeah because you can just get it in the place you like it you don't have to try to mix the hot and the cold it does it for you and then you can get it in your spot do you want to go ahead and step in there real quick and just show them because i know everybody always wonders about you know is it tall enough for me now patty is what about five foot eight five foot eight and you can see tons of space i'm five foot ten same way and um and then right outside of the shower is probably another one of paddy's favorite areas it's this really deep sink with this really cool single lever handle and it's deep enough you wash your hair in there no problem yeah this is no problem and then up top we have a nice medicine cabinet two shells and it's really deep yep and i love the way they finish out all the edges with trim just nicely done and then that light it's not just a typical yeah it's real pretty it's real pretty yeah and then down below these are deep also we have so much stuff in there i think my arms like it's like how much stuff can you pull out my hand and my elbow within there there's two of them you just gotta maneuver around the piping yeah keep it safe but we've done that with our softer stuff so all right and then go ahead do your impression of matt from matt's rv reviews and it did come with that um bar for the for the towel that's hanging on there we've added that but it's a porcelain toilet and plenty of space isn't it yeah so is it a 4p you think matt would give it a 4p i think he would think i would do differently yes is raise this up a little i think or even move it back a little bit but it's it's okay that came installed and then on this side they did include a no we added yes but it is a pocket door you want to go ahead and slide that and it does come with this mirror built in on the outside but we love the pocket door because then you have no issues and it locks if you have guests you can lock and then this is even more hanging storage but we've this is a huge wardrobe a little bit yep so it comes with the rod we added this we use um some coats and things here this is our handler it has storage way back things that we need paper towels stuff like that dog food yep and then there's three drawers down below and again we just put all kinds of stuff in these drawers and they're soft and they're soft clothes so you just kind of get them close and then they go ahead and close on their own all right um and then the big question we had because as we were considering trailers we wanted a trailer that when the slide out was in we could still use it and so paddy how is that working out for us it's worked out really well when the slide out is in it comes to basically right here okay area and i can get through we can get both of us can get through to use the bathroom we can open the refrigerator to about maybe there or a little bit more so you can't open the crisper drawer but you can get to everything else in the refrigerator or the freezer we've learned like if like that's where we put our lunch me and stuff to put it up before we travel and then i can just get it out of there to make a sandwich or whatever yep yep so and we had looked at one trailer where it was a murphy bed which we were fine with but kind of like this it folded up but the problem was you couldn't put the bed down if the slide out was in this trailer slide out can be in the bed is completely down so if we are doing like a cracker barrel or a walmart we don't have to put the slide out out we can fully use this trailer still getting the slide out to sit down and you can still get to the bathroom you can still use your bed all right if you own a lance travel trailer and we've missed anything share with us what you love
