dropped out third and 13 fields does have time and now takes off makes a cut picks a hard hit by skalsky who knocks him down two yards short and fields is still down he took that shot right in the ribs on the right side of his right between that it looks like the rib cage and maybe the back part of his ribs again a big a big quarterback that can do a lot of damage to a lot of teams when he runs but 47 a physical tackler hits him short of that first down and lowers the boom there skowski plays with the memory of his dad who told him when he was a young player son when you hit him make him feel you now skowski was ejected for targeting from the championship game a year ago talk about different fuel that's provided him fuel just in the midsection of fields it was still being looked at [Music] i hope it's just having the way knocked out of it i'd like to ask bill i and again bill that the targeting call that chris just referred to he did lower his helmet there for the the uh crown of his helmet yeah they've just stopped the game for review yeah does have the crown of the helmet down yeah forceable i see a targeting call here yeah that's what i thought you might jump in there you know two subplots fields is he okay can he continue finally help to his feet and what about the fate of skalsky as you point out kirk he's the defensive quarterback of that front seven already without turner for the rest of this quarter looks like justin's okay and that was a big hit david alvarez will get on the phone here is the big 12 replay official that's a classic classic crown of the helmet yeah and it doesn't matter when you use the crown of the helmet it doesn't matter whether you go high whether you know midsection no i think sometimes there's confusion on what the point you just said i think sometimes people get caught up in thinking you have to hit the head like a helmet to helmet that's a completely different foul correct [Music] you know what's similar similar to what sean wade did last year uh if you think about when he hit uh trevor lawrence on that blitz that kind of turned the game around it was the crown of the helmet on sean wade buckeye fans wondering if it'll be the same thing in reverse this would be crucial skalsky is disqualified for a second straight game in this building wow here's alvarez with a verdict from the booth after further review number 47 was confirmed for targeting the penalty will be half the distance to the goal and an automatic first down number 47 is disqualified so skalsky is out that is a huge blow just as it was last year for ohio state the game-changing disqualification of wade got lawrence going field seems to be okay very little experience kirk behind him at quarterback they rush four across the middle catch man and hammer hamilton just leveling and now we've got flags down cool then this may be targeting just watching that live you're gonna see it against the replay of its helmet to helmet he came in there on a defenseless player and i know he's a great player and didn't have bad intentions but i think he may have hit the receiver here when he came up to make a play on the ball he lowered his head rolling on the field is a catch personal foul targeting defense number 14. that play is under further review i thought for a moment that hamilton was hurt kirk but i think he was just disappointed because he knew right away that he was going to be ejected for that obviously rustia created the replay official to review this here it is number 14 coming in on downs boom lowers the helmet right off at his textbook case they can stay in their same style of offense with a little up tempo but plenty of time to go jefferson quick hitter over the middle big hit ball is loose [Applause] john david white got a little up by nick personal foul targeting on the defense number 32. that play is under review well my first impression is that that was a shoulder to shoulder hit that's my first look at it thing is confirmed number 32 has been disqualified i got to tell you i'll i'll be honest with you i would love to get an explanation on that one i just mix looks to the left a huge shot the mouthpiece came flying out and so do two flags incomplete lecount came up and drilled rick jackson yeah they're definitely going to take a peek at this i mean you said it mouthpiece or whatever it might have been it might have been an ear pad i don't know something came out along with the football the count saw that right away known as a big hitter to this defense the last three years personal foul targeting defense number two the previous play is under review the count is a pre-season all-american he's the guy that had a couple of interceptions in the opening game watch him deliver this watch how quick he reacts boom foot in the ground he sees it and just lowers his shoulder and head into the receiver see where the contact is well that is close looks like the right shoulder got in there it happened so fast because the way he reacted shedrick jackson about to catch the ball had not turned his head so defenseless player seemed to come into impact here we got bill lamagne watching this game remotely here let's see if we can bring in bill you continue to review this got to get bill's microphone flipped down there we'll try to hear from him but le count he got kind of a mixed bag he makes big plays he commits penalties he does make mistakes let's let's go to bill now we've got his mic scored away we have an indicator and he's attacking him so we have a confirmation by replay of the targeting we lost smoke monday for auburn's defense a great leader and now richard le clown who's making his 30th start tonight he's played a lot of football and a lot of big games fast back has changed the running game for oklahoma after the play fake on target is rattler to drake stoops there's a late flag that flies in after stoops hit the ground at the 49-yard line of iowa state i seem young there again for isu david alvarez leading our big 12 officiating crew today a little rpo fake by spencer rattler it was a shoulder hit by aisheem young not a helmet hit still taking a look at that though [Applause] [Music] so it'll go to gene semco the replay official let's bring in our rules expert matt austin obviously a very important play here matt less than a minute into the game yeah this is going to be unfortunate i'm afraid the defender i think is just trying to make a play but he does come in hard he lowers that shoulder he hits the receiver in the back of the head with the shoulder he is defenseless so anything to the head neck area is targeting so i think this is going to be confirmed and one's going to be disqualified now [Applause] it looks a lot worse from some angles than it does from others matt campbell the head coach of the cyclones very upset that's john haycock you saw in the huddle there a moment ago their defensive coordinator but this is an important player no doubt he was the ko big 12 defensive freshman of the year cary coleman of tcu he's from philadelphia and they have excelled on defense and matt campbell's the first state largely because they've played with the same 11 people just about all season long they've avoided covet and they've stayed injury-free well i seem young was the guy who sealed the win in ames against oklahoma had the interception off of spencer rattler late also had seven tackles in that game five tackles and a forced fumble against texas he would be a huge loss to this defense after further review the willingness on the field is confirmed number one [Applause] well you have to feel terrible for him i don't think there is anything malicious about it but as matt austin explained by the rules the letter of the law that blew the two coaches before the game they i hope they know each other well right yeah [Music] automatic first down so as bennett rolls out deandre johnson has a beat on him one two yep wow he's lucky he doesn't get targeting he's an important player one of the three guys that are expected to replace daryl taylor their great rush outside linebacker defensive end from a year ago and that could get reviewed the audrey johnson a big game against south carolina the opener had two and a half sacks in that game he lowered his head you got to lower your head a lot to get down by bennett that's right right for sure the crowd just saw the replay on the screen and this is going to be close it wasn't vicious but if they hit oh man yep he might be done whether he was trying to pull up or not the fact remains it was a helmet to helmet well 90 of his body pulled up but his head went down and that's what caused it david smith is our referee over having a word with our replay official mickey haddock he is very very nervous about take being taken out of the game gene steretore is with us yes brad uh i can tell you you know naturally we can all see that there's an extended amount of steps that this player takes before he makes the decision to do that now it doesn't appear to me that it's the crown of the helmet but we do see a dip of that helmet and they could almost put that on the crown because the contact is just above the the face mask opening so that's the area that they're focusing on right now we all know that it's definitely unnecessary though deandre johnson didn't play in the game against georgia last year and he might not see the rest of this game here's a call [Music] you're hoping for a lenient teacher right now aren't you after further review there was targeting on number thirteen johnson only lasts a few minutes [Music] bernie steps away from trouble and purdy has the first down and more hit as he was sliding and the flag comes down gain of 14 but they're going to tack on 15 more because of the hit on the quarterback who was sliding it was isaac slade mata tia came in there as purdy was starting his slot you know you're chasing down the quarterback you're trying to get him down and he he is starting to slide no doubt about it he just leaned in with his head in his shoulder so you're chasing from the side from the side and behind he breaks to you and you drop your head down might be targeting too led with the crown of the helmet it looked like after the play was over personal foul late hit unnecessary rough unnecessary roughness on the defense with targeting 31. penalty is 15 yards added to the end of the run the previous play is under further review that's a double whammy right when you lose a starter at linebacker you're leading tackler they'll look at it but it appeared to be targeting we'll step aside with 308 to go in the half so replay has confirmed the targeting on slade matutea so spring and rogers reading our rules analyst rogers did you agree with the call this is the good call first of all the the ball carriers defenses when he goes down like that so this is targeting on really two counts one is this a forcible attack to the head and neck area and also he led with the crown of the helmet so either of the two targeting rules would come into play here so that's a good call and i'm glad to replay confirmed it you know in this situation again you see him break back that he's trailing his side it's [Applause] yeah i think it was a little contact on micah harper after the play against on kyle porter but i would i would always have wrestlers as offensive lineman and defensive lineman because guys could function in short areas you know take downs you get you got to use your hands so i would i'd recruit the heck out of guys that play football with a wrestling background uh just at first blush here on the hit i'm thinking andre may be targeting here we'll see what the officials say but with that hit on micah harper we'll check the marker and see if he led with the crown of his helmet but just eyeballing it on the first hit we'll see what they come up with on the contact from harper to porter after the play was over unsportsmanlike conduct offense number 22. oh wow that's his first sportsmanlike foul of the game 15-yard penalty the down counts second down so they get it on after yeah maybe an after the lick by in retaliation to the michael micah harper hit there and then reporter oh yeah they just can't have that the previous plans for the review to look at an aspect of targeting yeah okay so they are going to check on targeting this will be third and 31 and a targeting check all to wrap up when we come back [Applause] okay so what you're looking for in terms of targeting here is forcible contact to the head or neck area but this one is the crown of the helmet situation so the question is if you have hit with the crown of your helmet and there has been an indicator of targeting it does not matter where you hit i mean normally people hear forcible contact header neck area there's also the crown of the helmet rule and if he led harper did with the crown of the helmet that should be targeting but then again on the back side of this andre porter then comes up and with the crown of his helmet head butts harper and lunges to do it so i don't know if it's and it's not how much violence is inflicted it's just a if you're going by the code of the of the rule that one right there there's a head but so they're looking at both for targeting and it's both the crown of the helmet rule and i think that's the one i've mentioned the other portion because i think the crown of the helmet rule is the one you hear about less but it does not matter where the contact is to with the crown of the helmet and so if you're saying well he hit him in the chest for the sternum wherever it is that does not matter if there's an indicator of targeting and forcible contact with the crown of the helmet we've been looking at this for a long time and if they have two possible fouls that'd be okay if they just played on and let both guys continue playing but within this country it looked like it was yeah i get it but it looked like harper to me was leading with trying to go in with his shoulder and the head got involved and then of course with kyle porter the lunge and using his helmet in retaliation you know how they're going to figure this one out but both guys may may be done for the night well if you're houston if it's porter that goes out you're without a full-strength moba car [Applause] now this one i i to me i don't love long replays but this one makes sense you have two fouls that you're dealing with ejecting a player so you do want to get it right although this has been a very lengthy review andre [Applause] there's also some question about the yard line if it's one foul rather than two targeting fouls so it's third and 31 if there are no further fouls called on the pledge [Music] hey this long it's like you're looking for something and that's where there's an equipment malfunction like it looks to me the way he's playing with that pack there it looks like there might be an equipment malfunction as well which i mean i've had some great friday nights historically but watching equipment malfunction is top three so look what you need to know if you're just joining us is we don't have cords and wires and knobs we have two quarterbacks who are playing their hearts out we have two possible targeting fouls here and the first one is on micah harper crown of the helmet further there was targeting on byu number one he is disqualified for the remainder of the game that penalty will be enforced 15 yards automatic first down have to play with the lead by houston will still be enforced but it will still be first down [Applause] so harper is done the freshman out of chandler arizona that is getting fouled on the ground intercepted at midfield intercepted harris on the return harris to the 25 and then he steps out of bounds just inside it so there are flags on the field after the interception from jakeem harris two flags back near midfield well harris one of those young guys that's been asked to step in and contribute and contributing in a big way here he had the big force fumble against virginia in a close one a couple weeks ago here this ball just too high and hard but not too hard for harris right into his bread basket and he knew just what to do with it they'll talk over this flag part of the interception personal foul targeting number 10 of the defense that play is under further review and that's tanner engel all right so he said prior to the interception so that will overturn this interception they're calling it prior now i wonder if they can change that they can look at a lot of things [Applause] it's but but tanner ingle he he's he's done tanner engel's been out for targeting he's been out for injuries they finally get him back they're going to lose him for the rest of this game though either way [Applause] second and 12 morale incomplete off the hands of drummond and a flag is down [Applause] yeah could be targeting too we'll take a look at it we'll see personal foul targeting a defensive player number six defense plays on a further review as the physical senior safety sean davis
