[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] hey what's happening guys thanks for watching we are at Cahuilla Creek motocross park in Anza California for our 2019 450 motocross shootout before we do shootout is the ongoing process from the basically the first day we get our first new bike of the year the day like today is kind of an official comparison so we add the information in the feedback we've got today to the impressions we've had thus far so today we have assembled six test riders of varying age skill speed and size and we have a manufacturer representative from Honda Husqvarna Kawasaki KTM suzuki ama and to help fine-tune the bike to each of the test riders likings each one of our test riders is instructed to spin laps on the bike and think about what they like what they dislike about the bike there are some shortcomings you definitely communicate them to the manufacturer to give each set of technicians on hand the chance to ideally set up the bike for each test Rider [Music] so of all six bikes the Suzuki was the least change and to be honest that the it sounds trivial but the lack of electric start like it was a point of contention for every one of the test riders so the engine it certainly makes enough power it's easy to ride it's fun to ride but it still got poor reviews from our test riders just because it doesn't have any excitement associated with it on the bike corners great goes lighter on the track than a dozen on the stand like when you take it off the stand Teddy this is ook he's still held back by the quirky performance of the show of bfr shop our testers ran up to 110 millimeters of sag and dropped the forks in the triple clamp to kind of balance the bike out but still the bike has a tendency to dive dive in the front the shock or powers the fork under braking and deceleration but still bikes a good bike every tester agreed that was some mods they could race it but sadly the shootout results are based on off the showroom conditions if you're riding a track that is relatively smooth especially a tighter one more arena cross style manases ookies great in that it's smooth it's manageable it's not the fastest bike anywhere but it's effective everywhere and you know it's it's it's a it's a great bike it's just and everybody else has raised their game and the Suzuki is just just one notch below the bike turns amazing everyone knows that Suzuki's turn but it feels a little outdated compared to everything else it's slower revving it's heavier and yeah you do feel the weight you're riding them side by side with all these other bikes that are lighter you could definitely feel the weight I didn't get a chance to ride this is uki last year did get on this year bike turns really really well overall it was an OK bike I feel like a distance ability of the light back to the KTM finished 5th is pretty surprising especially and consider how many times it's won in the past the truth of the matter is the bikes not worse it hasn't faltered it's just that everyone else has stepped it up responded to the challenge that KTM and husky have laid down the past few years what help the bike back I'd say that compared to the 2008 some factory edition this nineteen standard bike has been tamed down and smoothed out with different efi mount and as smooth and easy to ride as they are the slower rubbing nature of the bike of the engine actually gives it like a heavy dig filling and most of our test riders could notice that a lot of guys also commented that the front end of the bike wasn't as comfortable as husk of ours and that's likely due to the strange shaped handlebar that comes on the KTM its proprietary manufacturer and the Husky comes with pro tapers which absorb more vibration and impact KTM man I was honestly you know KTM has been one of my favorite bikes for the past few years I was a little bit disappointed they've done some different stuff with mapping the bike it's made power pretty mellow and and to be honest with you kind of sluggish and sort of heavy feeling actually pretty similar really really well-rounded bike I guess at the end the day though I just kind of a little bit more more comfortable on the two Japanese models and they're worse or the Euro ones but both the KTM and the husky were great bikes I think for the KTM the front of the bike feels a little more harsh than the Husky and I think it has a lot to do with the stock handlebars I wasn't a big fan of the Aniki bar they come something hundred KTN so be honest it was pretty shocking that last year's 2018 bike of the year was dropped to fourth in this year's final standings you know the Huskies still super fun and handles real precisely but like the KTM it comes back 419 compared to last year's Rockstar edition with a smoother power delivery that's just not as exciting down low so the husky and the KTM are way lighter than the Japanese bikes on the paper but the slow revving engine character makes them feel like the heaviest bikes in the shootout the new chassis delivers really precise ride and everyone appreciates the greater rigidity of the rigid chassis especially like when slamming into corners and changing directions or accelerating through choppy sections in the track for the older frame might cause the bike to swap a little bit believe it or not we actually like to feel in the modulation of the Huskies Brembo clutch a little bit bred in Mackay teams as well up next was the Husky felt pretty comfortable on that bike it did have a strong motor was fiddling with the suspension a little bit trying to get to settle into the corner so when I was getting a little bit rougher but the motor package is very very good on the bike it's a little little wider for me than some of the other bikes which is kind of just just I guess more of a comfort thing at the end of the day but overall a great bike and it was fun it's very difficult to rake the husqvarna and the KTM and I rated the Huskies just a little bit above the KTM because it just feels a little plush er a little smoother I think some of it is the pro taper bar I like that better on the Husky their efforts to stiffen the frame the torsional rigidity the stiffer triple clamp on the husky the stiffer subframe all great moves and the handling is improved for me over last year the only downfall for those bikes is I don't like this slower revving nature of the of the power down low i rated the Husqvarna forth and the KTM v but to be honest that's because I thought the Husqvarna it looks cooler like they're so similar to me and people might they might get bummed I say that but really they they do feel really similar there are changes bike-to-bike and that includes handlebars a couple other things but really the overall character the bike it they're very similar Honda doesn't look much different for 2019 but it actually has got a lot of different changes the new chassis swingarm cylinder head and exhaust system everybody kind of raved about the quick handling and the powerful engine that was easy to make good use to the power but some of the riders didn't agree with the small feeling of the bike and the lie high speed stability the Honda still boasts like big responsive low in power pretty decent mid and then a lot of top three map settings make a big difference um most of us ran it on three the most powerful setting the Honda has a short feeling wheel base and from the compact ergonomics of these makes it easy to throw the bike round but it's definitely it's definitely lacks some stability and suffers from some head shake especially on D so the Honda 450 by far probably one of my favorite bikes I've ridden Honda's in the past they've done a great job on all the updates from the bike this year the different mapping you use actually was with on map number three was the the map that I like the best super powerful all the way through from the bottom to the top really comfortable on the cockpit fit me very very well so honestly at the end of the day the the Honda was number one for me the Honda actually changed more than you would expect the bike looks identical almost but they've you know they've done some some stuff with the chassis that's quite a bit different the swingarm that's different a little bit different flex again the bike is pretty amazing turns overall motor package is really good it's got like three maps that you can choose from my preferred the aggressive one and out here ke and you know I was able to get over everything no problem man I gotta tell you I really enjoy the new Honda I love that bike for me what really stands out about the Honda great motor very comparable to the Cowie quick handling I think that this new Honda is now the best cornering bike in the class so quick and agile and light feeling I know it's not light on the scale but it's light on the track and it wants to cut and dive it'll turn inside of anything and it's got great power to pull it out of the corners which I love the only downside is to get that quick corner and you gotta sacrifice somewhere and they sacrificing some high speed stability it's hard to believe that the Yamaha is so much improved in spite of the seemingly minimal changes on paper the stiffer seat foam allows the riders to stay higher in the riding position and more forward to greater weight over the bars combine that with the route and more rigid fork lugs and wheel spacers and man the bike corners way better than it used to you especially accelerating out no world changes were made to the engine and suspension but no changes were really needed the the Y Z 450 makes a ton of power and it's completely customizable thanks to the power tuning out and man I mean who needs more than that the KYB spring Forks amazing like it always is and the overall suspension balance and performance of the bike is excellent only real complaints we had about the bike or that the airbox because it's in between your legs there's a loud intake sound so the bike seems loud as the rider and then the tall handlebars are kind of goofy for most most dudes unless you're real tall the Yamaha man you know I haven't been a huge fan of Yamaha over the years the last few years just because of the way the balance is and the way the bike is this year they've done just some some little kind of fix-it changes that actually made quite a big difference the yamaha motor is unbelievable I mean straight up I don't think you'll find one test guy here that doesn't say that motor is just sickening and the rear end you know if you ride that thing with the rear end and just get it going it's pretty incredible how fast you can get out of the corners so for me the Yamaha once again takes the shootout I get on that bike and I immediately feel comfortable what I really like about it is it's got the best balance of all motor great handling good chassis solid pouring it may not be the best in any one particular category but man it's got great straight-line stability it corners well their efforts to plant the front end better this year have made huge improvements so much more confident that turned the bikes got narrowed up in the last couple of years the ergonomics are comfortable sleek easy to move around on that bike to me is like the all-around second all-around package of it does everything so well in my opinion it's so fast and like I talk I talk to the other guys they think that's the fastest bike I just disagree I in my my butt dyno I just kept thinking the Honda felt snappier 2019 Cowie kx4 50s all new still has a traditional Kawasaki feel it's just a little bit better the bike still is on the long and stable side and steers really well at the throttle but the front end has more traction and bite than it ever has before like this corner Cali we've ever ridden probably since it's been four-stroke the news show US Supreme Court because it's a thousand times better than the tap before that replaces several or tester says the best fork in the shootout a couple the better handling and suspension with the new engine that has really good power throughout the RPM range revs quick it's snappy it's got the great oh man the electric start found its brownie bite the first time and it's awesome just probably the quickest starting bike and shoot out the hydraulic clutch is super soft and has good fuel imagination yeah the brakes are better too so nobody in the shootout ranked this bike worse than second and the Cali basically pretty good wins your shootout so congratulations to Kawasaki for the 2019 trans rule motocross bike of the year the Kawasaki they've done some amazing improvements this year they know they went to a hydraulic clutch electric start change the chassis completely the motors different the suspension is completely different they've done an unbelievable job stability turning motor characters the whole package is pretty good the new Kawasaki is great they went through an all-new bike this year the motor is excellent again I love the low end great hit very usable but quick and exciting strong mid-range maybe even a little more top than the Yamaha up on top excellent excellent power delivery it's probably the sleekest narrowest feeling bike which I love the new spring fork is excellent I don't think it's quite as good at the Yamaha but it's what it's good the only thing that held it back for me is the front end was a little bit busier than the Yamaha it wasn't quite as planted and so I wasn't quite as confident going into some of the corners and pushing really hard Kawasaki kicks for 50 has been a great bike the last few years it's been really held back by the show a triple air chamber air fort was horrible but the new show of spring fork is awesome it feels really good it's it's close to the Yamaha but I think the Yamaha fork is a little bit more comfortable but man there's not much you can fault about the Kawasaki I feel really at home on it when I get on it I trust it completely probably cut my fastest laps of the day on the Kawasaki and and I'd say it's my number one choice [Music]
