2018 KOH | Power Hour | 4400 Qualifying – Jeep Proving Grounds Short Course

good afternoon and welcome to hammer town for the 2018 Nitto king of the hammers powered by Optima batteries I'm Jim Marsden and next to me is Marcia's request miles how we doing man it's been a great show it's been a lot of action all day a lot of fast times Paul Horschel is the KMC wheels hard charger for now but Power Hour is getting ready to kick off momentarily this is what the day's been building for all day long this store is about to go down it's gonna be a lot of action Jim okay here we go it's action here it's Power Hour in Hammer town in Johnson Valley California and first off the line it's Andrew McLaughlin so that is Andrew McLaughlin hard on course Andrew McLaughlin for the let's roll off-road team and these guys give absolutely everything he's stoked to be here for power hour and I believe it was it last year or two years ago in qualifying he did a full indole and AHS wheels and kept going so this guy's definitely gonna push hard yeah no stranger to drama the year before that he exploded a rock four foot tall coming in off a cliff so let's see what he's got can he be Paul Hershel [Music] so we'll see if power hour can shake things up with the KMC a hard charger reward and the ARB 40 spline high speed award so we got two things going we're gonna see Jordan Townsend has the ARB in Paul Horschel with the KMC hard charger award and this is going to build as we go through this afternoon we've got some amazing cars coming up we got Gary Farah van T senior we've got Shannon Campbell Loren Healy Levi Shirley so many fantastic names this is going to go crazy [Music] sounds like Andrew McLaughlin got up to 65 miles an hour in the ARB 40 splines section so he's really moving that ifs Jimmy's car and he takes too long what line is he makes his way up towards the Jeep arch I know he's going to throw it over here and he doesn't disappoint as he heads down push away in just absolutely launching oh wow he goes miles off course blew the corner big time with Karen way too much speed we'll see what kind of time he's got Andrew McLaughlin Jim it's a looks like he's unofficially a 153 42 for Angie McLaughlin up next is Bailey Campbell no apologies we just got confirmation of one five eight four to unofficially ninth place Andrew McLaughlin and it's Bailey Campbell next on the line this young lady never fails to impress he's got a big accident in Reno earlier this year saw her rolling multiple-- down the hill but look at this she's back in the saddle the cars back together it's a Campbell car and you know it's going to be fast we've got all three we've got all three of the camels in power our but Bailey Campbell is the only female to win a qualifying and I believe that was in Indiana so it's pretty cool to see her pushing hard like Jim said this car was hurt pretty bad at Nationals but you can't even tell now those Campbell's can really rebuild a car heavily sponsored by Monster Energy and NIT oh I don't know she's very much like to take that KMC hard charger award I should be working her sullied axle car hard out there today I see Eric Miller and his brand new double-oh-seven Miller pro sport chassis head now to get in line for power hour this is the 2018 Nitto king of the hammers powered by Optima batteries or right starting the Power Hour this is the biggest the funnest the fastest of the day we'll see what kind of times we can get out of these guys [Music] now we've got Andrew McLaughlin from let's roll off road team joining us on stage now which is lame goose helmet off and we'll have a quick chat to the big lad hey Andrew how we doing and that was uh that was a lot of fun that was a heck of a qualifying course and I just wanted to put a sub two-minute time down and not hurt the car and I just had a lot of fun and everything felt smooth everything fell fast that last jump I uh I think I kind of sent her a little far but mighta lost a second or two on that but at least I was able to find some checkered flags and make it through them cars in great shape man we're excited when you came off that last jump we thought you've grown wings you flew four miles there what were you thinking I wasn't thinking really to be honest everybody no seriously I just I had a pin and grab third and said well let's go so hey don't tell those guys behind me but do not hit that pin just a little slower faster on that last jump but don't tell them okay we'll keep that a secret unofficially north place how does that make you feel fifth row the grid yeah that's good that's where we want to be we always liked being about that first twenty stack that gives us gives of people around us where we love racing with we want to pace off of and it gives us a chance to hopefully stay out a little bit of the mess but know that's everybody for coming out thanks man Bailey Campbell hot on course looking good looking Terry Madden hurt his back at Nationals back in them [Music] so Bailey Campbell an ARV sponsored vehicle heading into the ARB 40 spline speed section I'm Bailey Campbell looking really fast now she heads out to go around the back of the mountain and normally Terry Madden is Co driving for but his backs still a little tender so he's gonna do just the UTV's so tough break on that but Bailey Campbell's in the rocks and that straight axle shift machine really really works and still that battle continues between solid axle cars and ifs cars as we watch it come on down through the rocks really nice flow nice and steady smooth but fast there's a great little front no stand on that gr section but uh made it work sounds like Bailey got up 258 miles an hour in the RB 40 splines speed section and as we watch for Bailey Campbell to bring it on home Gary fair Avanti senior he's starting his monster you Bailey's coming in to hammer town looks like unofficially a201 point eight so Bailey Campbell with a great run they still forget that's the first time back in the car after a big accident so I think she'll be very happy with that so unofficially in 22nd position Bailey Campbell threw down a pretty solid run it's worthwhile remembering that we've got a hundred and eight starters on Friday's NIT Oh king of the hammers so pheromone is senior hot on course he comes from the world Outlaws circle track but he's transferred into this ultra four and this guy's extremely fast we'll see what kind of time old Farrah Bonnie's senior can throw down as he's in the short course section heading into the one of those sweeping right hand corners that's burned up for him heading out to the 40 spline ARB six speed section you keep watching Gary I'm gonna have a chat to this young lady here Bailey how are you did you enjoy that I did this is your first competitive run since your role in Reno how did it feel to be back in the car you know the little sketchy and the razor going down that Rockhill but I love this car and it felt we're comfortable so I'm doing good well it's great to see you back here unofficially you're sitting in 22nd at the moment how does that cool alright with that I wish I would have the lo7 motor in here but my dad downgraded me to an ls3 haha now I know that you're gonna be hunting those boys down in front of you tomorrow what's your game plan my game plan there's a lot of rocks my car is just or my plan is just to keep my car together and finish fantastic well good luck section at Gary Ferro fancy is giving it everything 75 mile an hour through the speed trap our fastest man so far as he flies over the final jump and makes his way to the finish line so it looks like unofficially Gary fire Avani senior with a 1 5 5 sorry I won 5 6 to 8 so a great run up next just Jessi combs and a bomber chassis driving for savvy off-road cool to see her step up a class yep embracing the guys Jessi for many years now but she stepped it up into that 4400 class she's often done 4400 start racing but usually in stock class vehicles or expect class vehicles and she's off she's also gonna be racing in the Pro Comp 4,600 stock class so that'll be a pre run for the effort Smitty peel of everyman challenge on Thursday but right now Jessi combs in that bomber chassis really making a good run and Jessi combs just takes a little tumble in the short class he was really pushing hard so tough break for Jessi combs she's upside down we'll get our Hamrick anchor out there get her ridin so it looks like we'll have a little break in action so Jim let's have a word with Gary okay that's a tough break there for Jessi but I'm sure I'm joined by a hard charger Gary for a fancy see there how you doing Gary yeah we're doing okay we're out here having a good time it's good to see you back on the track have you got any new changes to the car yeah we put a spare tire on it I saw yeah so it's that change the trim of the vehicle yeah I'm gonna change your style of driving yeah it's definitely different for me because there's a lot of weight up there and we just got to little pre running for the smittybilt everyman challenge on Thursday and she was overly excited to put a bomber chassis she said she's never been anything that fast but apparently it was a little faster than she could handle yeah it's upright for Jesse and that means that Paul whole show is still aa KMC hard charger so while we have a little break in the action we're gonna get Jesse flipped myself Myles house quiz Jim Martin it's been a great day we have Chris from KMC wheels for the hard-charge reward it's still Paul Horschel so top ten is a number 10 Andrew McLaughlin with a 158 and a 9th it's one of our LCQ guys Mike Bergman with a 157 92 so on course that's gonna be Derek West 44 20 hot on Coors looking good in this Jimmy's chassis you fantastic see our course marshals are clear Jessi combs off the course and now it's Derrick West out there giving it absolutely everything and Eric came to Europe this year to try his hand in Bailey Kohl spec class car he got soaking wet but he had a great time and he's one of our top I mean he's always been top 10 probably one of the most competitive guys out there he knows the rock so well but look at that Jimmy's chassis bouncing through the desert in that ARB 40 high speed section yeah he speaks too reliable at king of the hammers always used to making those top 10 positions he's been racing a lot he's been racing for a long time back in the XR ra days transfer totaled it over into ultra for Derek West is always a fun one to watch a crowd favorite fairly local to me out of Springfield Missouri sounds like he got up to 69 miles an hour and they are be 40 splines speed section so that's smoking through there bouncing through that little G out section Derek West is looking fast stolid accent car again and look he's super smooth and super fast as he comes around to the mountain Derek West heading up towards the Jeep arch this is quick miles this is very quick I've been looking at the clock if you can be right around that 1:45 mark in the Jeep arch you're doing good and he beat that by a couple seconds so Derek West is throwing down a smoke and run looks like unofficially Derek West should be right around a 150 5:05 Derek West throwing down a great great run on that straight axle Jimmy Carr and that puts him in our top 10 he'll be very happy with that as Josh baile lines up on the line unofficially sixth place Derek West with the 155 great great run and his Josh Bartlett out lining up in that Miller Pro chassis Josh isn't even racing a couple of years and he just doesn't fail to impress he's always at the pointy end every single race Josh Bleiler getting ready to head out and that Miller Pro chassis Big B Motorsports number 41 hot on Coors I believe last year and the king of the hammers he got six play so he's definitely a one to watch he's a fun guy he's quick new to the sport but boy he can really run hard I watch your spot up hauls it around the track we'll have a quick chat to Derek Derek how you doing good how does it feel out there it's good it's rough I felt like I was pretty fast and most of it my cars a little slower in some of the corners some of these guys can reel those berms out they're pretty hard and I don't know if it's me or my car or what but I'm just not that guy to do that so that's a little time there but I was pretty happy with my time overall well you're in sixth place which is a pretty good run for a southern accent car on that kind of course yeah so you know starting the top 15 or something that's kind of where I wanted to be so you know hopefully I'll get there there's a bunch of fast guys out here that are gonna keep bumping me on down so we'll see our land but I think overall I'm gonna be in good spot that's fantastic good luck for the mome Raths through the cheap zone Josh Bleiler is smoking into town we'll see what kind of time he's got Jim it's a 150 to 79 for Josh pilot that's some remarkable time for a solid axle car next up we have the Texas clay Gilstrap number 26 holy cow Josh Bleiler just got it unofficially fifth place just bumped out Derek West we got Clay Gilstrap now on the line famously from Texas of course clay a perennial competitor always pushes hard he's led this race in the past so we'll see if he can keep the speed going keep the car together this is gonna be a long race day on Friday for the 2018 Nitto king of the hammers powered by Optima batteries we're right in the middle of the Power Hour with all the fastest guys in our sport it's been fun it's been fast Jessi combs was upside down Jim this is why we're here I love it I love this he's absolutely fantastic to watch as clay Gilstrap makes his way out towards the ARB for displaying speed trap he's got his small motor in for this race he's after a reliability he said he's got the big one in the truck if he needs it and boy he's moving quick through that ARB 40 spline high-speed section what a great run clay Gill straps having clay gills drop in that IFS machine heading up the rock section making it look pretty smooth he's got a good run on his hands again I'm joined on stage now if I rushed by a Josh guy like Josh how are you very good we're doing well how did he go when great stuck with her motto smooth and consistent and it's absolutely fantastic let me tell you that you're a fifth place overall you've got to be happy with that were brothers racing all three brothers will be racing on Friday clay how you doing I'm doing wonderful lay down a smooth clean run it's not the fastest but cars still together didn't hurt it at all and what is it like a 150 I'll take it all day well I can tell you you're at ease currently sitting in second overall how does that make you feel oh hell that's even better but now you were telling me earlier this week that you put the small engine in so what you have done with the big engine probably got myself in trouble haha great well my friend we look forward to seeing you on the start light qualifying earlier today and then this rock section he was really picking it apart he was worried about getting a beat up and he made a pretty smooth run through there and he did say he's gonna be pushing 100% he's either starting towards the front or in the back Raul Gomez got up to 68 miles an hour in the 40 spline ARB speed section so he's definitely pushing hard an itto driver always great to see it go most brother on track I was chatting to them earlier this week Rao Marcus and JP they've got a game plan miles they're going to team up out there and if any of them get any trouble they're gonna help each other change their wheels and do all that kind of stuff can you see that happening icon it's a great game plan to have but with the race helmet on you know those guys they're a good time they're a bunch of maniacs they're fun to watch they're gonna be pushing hard it's gonna be it's gonna be a great day of racing for the 2018 Nitto king of the hammers sounds like a 153 for Algoma so another great great run I love watching the Brooke Gomez brothers racing arouse it unofficially Rowell Gomez seventh place up next is the 4 wheel parts himself Greg Adler he's going to do a little share driving with a MOT Rob MacCachren cool to see him bring him out here love the crossover drivers Greg Adler's been with us since the very beginning he's one of our main sponsors it's great Nijo king of the hammers power bhaktapur batteries Gregg Adler got up to 71 miles an hour in the ARB speed section and he's got the fastest time up the hill so far so let's see what he can do as he comes on through the jeep section down the hill wheels in the air one job one corner between him and a possible pole position Gregg Adler's pushing the limits all the way to the finish line Gregg Adler unofficially Jim what's it looking like it's a one four eight five four it's a fantastic time only a couple of seconds of a current KMC hard-charger paul Hershel unofficially that puts him in second place just bumping out clay Gilstrap up next old man number 61 Doug Jackson in his tribe 16 machine let's not forget that Doug Jackson is the oldest man racing in ultra for this year and I know he loves it when I remind you all about as Greg Adler makes his way to the stage [Music] duck Jackson hot on course and that solid axle machine looking smooth out of Texas Doug Jackson's only been with us for a few years but he's really proven that he's out here to have a lot of fun and run fast run hard well Jim it looks like you'd have Greg Adler while we watch duck Jackson got around the coast uncle Greg Adler here how you doing you know it's always a feels good to get that lap done and can't wait to pop a cold Coors Light now a little birdie tells me doing the driving share on this with froak mark is this true yeah I've got a Rob do in the desert loop so maybe I made it too easy for him I should let's start him a little further in the back but yeah I have another guy like Rob come in and you know he's he's a pro he's the best in the desert that I think has ever been out there so it's fun to team up with him and we can really focus our pre run in our time in the rocks if you're going to have a secret weapon Rob Mac is a pretty good secret weapon yeah it's getting out there a little bit but really I got Brian Kirby as a secret weapon to he's kind of hard to hide yeah but you know he's built this car and preps it and helps me through the rock so a few secret weapons on the team and hopefully this fool parts BFG car will be well we'd like to see that good luck coming through the jeep arch heading into hammer town still looking good unofficially Doug Jackson should be a 2:05 for one a Greg Adler Lane done a fantastic lap there and sitting in second place overall but still aa current KMC hard charger is Paul Herschel with that blistering 146 94 Doug Jackson just finished unofficially 37th so towards the front looking good up next is the 4472 Dustin Eisenhower out of Colorado Dustin Eisenhower and his Jimmy's chassis run it hard in the infield run through this big berm corners blipping the throttle power hours been fun we've got a lot of fast guys looks like Jim's ready with dud Jackson the old man's well here I am a go talk Jackson next meet that duck how did that go I was just cleaning around you know we didn't push it real hard we broke something out there and practice so they don't qualify Fairplay now we were chatting earlier in the weekend you were telling me that you're really happy with the car even made any changes no major changes cars pretty much where was in Reno now it was really quick and Reno so do you think you can keep that pace out here this week I think so you know this race if you push it too hard I think this is this race is gonna be a lot of attrition as normal but probably more so this year than anything I think the solid axle cars are doing well this year well we look forward to seeing you at the finish Dustin Eisenhower's still moving right along he just cleared the ARB 40 spline speed section [Music] Dustin Eisenhower got up to 57 miles an hour in the ARB 40 spines feed section crossing through the jeep arch as we speak heading into hammer town we'll have a time for him very shortly as we watch Dustin making for the line let's not forget we are in power out and we've still got some super heroes to come yet we've still got Loren Healy we still got Eric Miller we've still got Shannon Campbell Brandi Slauson and Levi Shirley online next number 81 Levi Shirley had a Dodge City Kansas a local boy to myself cool to see him out here sounds like Dustin Eisenhower is unofficially in 42nd place we just get justin on stage he's we've watched there as Levi shirley is lining up for the start I spend quite a bit of time in the Shirley camp just getting caught up he brought his saw on ax or two-seat car to pre run and he's got Loretta on point he's gonna be pushing hard for this power our qualifying run again we are right in the middle of the 2018 NIT o king of the hammers powered by Optima battery we got qualifying we got power our this is a lot of fun a lot of fast guys Levi's pushing hard out there Levi Kate second his boys championship this year a won two races last year sorry so far so talented for such a young man's great to see him but let's have a word with this young man Justin how you're doing we're doing good how'd it feel out there on track it's tore up a bunch in the corners yeah it's looking really really nasty out there so it's a solid axle car gonna be really good for you on this racing I hope so I mean it's gonna be a long race tomorrow we went pre ran almost all the rock trails all the desert it's a crapshoot I mean anything can happen we're trying to prep the car as good as we can we just had to put a transfer case in it this morning right around now I think we got a good solid car everything's been going great this week so far and we're keep it going coming down to the Jeep arch he's got a smoke and run this is gonna be pushing towards the top we'll see if he get that pole position or not Levi surely with a great run going oh this is Levi's surely one four eight nine three unofficially third place Levi surely out of Dodge City Kansas and here comes our historical fastest qualifier of all time in ultra four it is Jason Shearer sitting on the line as Levi surely makes his way out to stage hot on course mr. Jason shear he's gonna be pushing for that KMC heart charger a warden Jason shear probably has the most pole positions in ultra4 history this guy is not afraid to push the limits in qualifying well I'm joined on stage now by none other than Levi Shirley Levi how we doing I doing a lot better now my car runs so what's it like out there it looks like the coast is getting really caught up the course is ridiculous you know from where we pre ran this morning to where it is now the lines have totally changed so that's kind what's cool about ultra for racing you kind of have to adapt you're not gonna have like a set course you know we're not we're not groomed we're not pansies we we race with what we're dealing with have you got any you know this race is going to be very different this year you're in a single-seat car and what happens if you got a puncher this year there's no tire balls have you planned for this I'm not worried about I got Max's tires I like that answer my friend hot on course had a little bit of a hiccup in the rock section that'll cost him a second or two but he will definitely be pushing all the way through till the end sounds like he got up to 71 miles an hour in the ARB 40 spline speed six and so Jason sheer pushing the limits all the way into hammer town heading into the Jeep arch as we speak Jim Cheryl he's taking all kinds of funky lines trying to save a second two wheels as he comes through the jeep arch amazing stuff here Jason sheer is smokin he always wants that KMC hard charger award number 76 Jason Shearer with an unofficial time of 1 for 7 to 3 so just under a second unofficially second place holy cow Jason shears pushing to the limits but appalled Horschel still has it with a 146 41 I will get him on stage with our current KMC hard charger is still Paul but we still got some more big guns to come yet we still got Lauren Haley Shannon Campbell and Eric Miller but look we do have Lauren Hylian the red dragon he did have a brand new car built but had some motor issues so we'll see what kind of time former King Loren Healy number 67 Nitto Tire sponsored machine now Lauren Hayley wasn't expecting to be driving this car this week they built a brand spanking new IFS car two-seater big engine all of the toys unfortunately the motor went bang so he's back in red dragon now red dragon hasn't historically been that great at king of the hammers but he's won everything else what do you think his chances are miles well it depends on his driving style he is fast we know that he's had some bad runs here lately but he is a two-time teen so if he has a perfect day it could be very possible on the top of the box we'll have to see but that Jimmy chassis red dragon really looking smooth or that ARB 40 splines section he's definitely pushing the red dragon to the limits in that mbrp sponsored machine love watching Loren Healy Drive he's so committed no quarter given in any corner in his Gucci part are two wheels sure he would like to beat Mike and this year is a lot longer with a lot more rock trail so historically Randy Slauson does great on these kinds of races so he's he's excited to put that bomber Slauson was in sixth place unofficially so a great run and that solid axle bomber machine and Eric Miller is off and that brand new car of his looking great Miller Motorsports run those Nitto tires another solid axle guy running out front we'll see what kind of time you can throw down Jim Eric Miller looking blisteringly fast in this brand-new car basically exactly the same as last year's car just all shiny and new it's amazing how he can just jump from one car to the other and still be blisteringly fast as he makes his way up towards the ARB 40 slide speed trap but so far Paul Horschel still has that KMC hard-charger award and he was not in power hours so it still shows all these guys are fast we thought we got a few runners left a pool her shoe is still our KMC hard charger with a 146 94 as we wait for Randy Slauson to join us on stage Eric Miller still pushing hard that rock section he loves the solid axle he said he's never going away from that and he's really making it work good hitting a little G out section get a little bit of airtime he got off 266 miles an hour in a ARB 40 splines speed section so Eric's still pushing hard all the way to the end we've had a great run during power hour it's been fun it's been fast it's shaking things up Eric Miller heading into the Jeep arch coming on down into hammer time okay well I'm joined on stage now by two-time King Randy Slauson Randy how was it out there it's pretty rough we Josh aired up in us on this thing so I wanted to see if we could squeeze a few extra ponies out of it and the first three times I'm wide open throttle they just bobbling cut out then towards the end it finally cleared up and actually was doing work anyway that was a little bit unnerving but car worked great chalk tune is amazing love these BFT tires definitely got us up that hill and around the mountain pretty timely well I could tell you beat your brother Mike by two seconds and you're currently in sixth place how's that not bad I racing all three cars in the big race for the 2018 Nitto king of the hammers powered by Optima batteries but they'll also be running in the kam UTV race tomorrow gonna be a busy fun week for the Campbell crew absolutely flying out there he really came into his only 2017 as we're joined on stage now by Eric Miller Whalen's in the rock section looking smooth looking fast he got up to 68 miles only got maybe 100 miles on this car we still have some stuff to do to even make it race I mean that's how new it is we built in three weeks again this this is January so straight out of the box you about particular now okay unofficially you're a sixth place are you happy with that yeah that's good I didn't there's a lot of guys that are faster than agency better so it'd be good if I just follow them and take advantage of me along the way it's a very long race I mean you're a single-seater car we've been talking to a few people about this are you worried about tire attrition now we don't have tire balls middle built it's a new town and I'm pretty confident that it's good and confident enough that I don't have a spare so hopefully it's real good wow that's very brave indeed what might we the smittybilt everyman challenge he will be invited for the 2018 Nidoking of the Hammers any fourth place is Mike Bergman and that fantastic Joe Thompson UFO car with a 157 92 in the third place for LCQ is the one and only John curry with a 150 719 with it's good to see him make it the big show it was insane run from Jordan Townsend with a 150 234 but the number one spot does go to Rainey slauson's brother Mike Slauson with a 150 221 another great great run in that bomber chassis now let's look at the top times for the rest of the qualifying we had some superb stuff today we see some real times thrown down here in power our so during power our number 3 number 2 ten-four wheel parts Greg Adler with a 148 54 at a previous two times King it's the man himself Lauren Haley and red dragon with the 846 and the fastest guy in power our was the number 76 Jason shear with a 147 23 so a great run by all those guys it's been a great day it's been a fun day Jim it was great thanks for being up here with me buddy I spent fantastic I look forward to power our so much can't wait for the moment race Friday what are we going to get so much depends on the weather it's going to be the hardest race in hammers history over 200 miles of the toughest trials and we've got some new trails as well I know you've been out to see a few of them I've been out to see a few of them they look
