[Music] there we go [Music] 11 obstacles eight vehicles and only one champion welcome to the bf goodrich tires reign of rocks competition presented by hp tuners brought to you by flex rocks and rollovers and here are your drivers jason van over ian harkins cole miller axel stamelon rockwood mark hendricks jackson wilkenbarger alex watkins get your snacks ready buckle up and enjoy the show here are your hosts marvin stamel and andrew bailey we're here at the chicopen of road park just north of knoxville welcome to the first ever rain or rocks rock rolling competition by flex rocks and rollovers we're running a short but very intense course that will be judged by a point system that is basically every vehicle gets three attempts the first attempt gets you 30 points second attempt gives you 20 points the third attempt gives you 10 points everything past your third attempt is a zero and head on to the next obstacle marvin let's talk about bonus lines a little bit and point system with that we have two bonus lines on this course the bonus line is an alternative line to the original obstacle and if the participant chooses to hit the bonus line that starts at 50 points are you ready to go rock crawling i am ready to go rock crawling are you ready to go rock crawling [Applause] chinwa pin off-road park is located in the northeastern part of tennessee this is a privately owned 20-acre natural rock playground that will challenge any vehicle and driver beyond their capabilities eight hand selected drivers battle it out on a short but very intense rock course the course consists of 11 obstacles including two bonus lines for extra points three attempts per obstacle starting at 30 points then 20 then 10 the bonus lines start at 50 points and go down to 30 points after the third attempt if you can't make the bonus line after three attempts you get one more shot to complete the regular line for 20 points everything after that is a zero for the obstacle [Music] first off the line is jason vaneuver in his brand new jeep buggy build named what mad max is this the mad max that's mad max all right my name is jason vanover i'm from la fall at tennessee and we're at cheek of an off road come here to do a little rock crawling and raise some awareness it's a rig that i started uh in march of this year brand new so it's our first trip out started with a wide open design subframe and went from there ls 14 bolts front and rear 43 inch sx's rcv shafts rad flow coilovers tom woods drive shafts prp seats seven months in the shop you know every day for the last seven months it's been a long long time so i'm happy to to be on some rocks again marvin's gonna keep up with our point system i'm gonna kind of moderate up top talk with the drivers a little bit and uh we'll just see how this flows all right gentlemen start your engine beautiful man that thing looks good coming through here it's looking great man that thing looks good yeah no joke he's walking this like it's nothing to be expected approaching the second obstacle big giant rcd axles coming down off the first obstacle into the second one nice little warm-up for mr van over [Music] long and low long and low doing a great job jay [Music] um [Music] you guys can see these holes they're dropping off and that's a whole man down there that's crazy crazy crazy this is going to be awesome guys you have no idea this is straight up this is a rock wall this is absolutely crazy all right that's him number one let's put himself in a bit of a pickle because he's now in a position where his front end's sliding over this goes if something happens we all want to get that perfect shot at the same time lock her in and i think he's gonna give her the beans guys warm him up jay [Applause] [Music] so basically this this technique is not all for show this is actually to get the rig going um what this is going to do for jason is just keep those tires up so it's activated the compound and the tires and he's got a sticky compound [Music] mom thank you [Music] second driver off the line today is ian harkins in his super low tj crawl my name is ian harkins and uh from simpsonville south carolina and just came out the wheel with the flex rocks and rollover screw just uh it's a 03 tj one ton 60 front and 14 out rack bfg 42 inch thread labels trail ready bead locks still got the factory 4-liter and 5-speed transmission and you know a doubler and a gear dana 300 transfer case and just a lot of low gearing i guess i've been uh i've been into four-wheeling for about 22 years now you know i've been playing with jeeps and all that stuff since you know high school just had a lot of fun with it and it progressed into you know the machines we got now i'm not really nervous about anything you know just hadn't seen any of i've never been here before so you know just interested to get out there and see what it's like i believe that ian will make really short work of this one marvin yeah i think though that ian's lack of will speed on some of these bonus lines is going to hurt him so yeah we'll see if he uh if he guns and on up i mean first attempts most important so we shall see so far it's warming up today jason cleared a lot of leaves off the trail which is super super important or the course i guess so to say absolutely um you know difference in tires so we'll just see what happens a lot of different factors here as expected ian made real short work for the first option now he's gonna dip down in the hole to obstacle two cole is leading him out today being a spotter trying to help him out a little bit this is kind of cool like they're compact they're competitors but cole is still helping him and giving him an extra eye on the trail it just says a lot about the sport man you know i mean we're here to have fun i mean you know what it would be cool to take that number one trophy home but uh we're all friends here it's really cool goes to climb low and slow making a real short work of obstacle 2 head on an obstacle three our first uh bonus line today see how it handles this one all right ian is lining himself up for the bonus slide all right so he's going to try the steepest part of the bone first he ready to make everybody weak he's trying to do it big time yeah i see what you're doing now i like it all right [Music] man that's one [Music] so he missed his first attempt at 50 points we're now looking at 40 points potentially for the bonus line we're gonna see uh and then he can actually go for 30 and then if you don't make 30 you can go for 10 so got a lot of promise here [Music] it's always exciting when he uses the go pedal he don't do it a lot he's a crawler but but it's pretty awesome to see him use that go pedal right over here coal right there look change the game for this man so right now um he's crested it with a suck down it actually gave him a little bit of advantage it basically pulled his pulled his rear axle up a lot and he pulled his rear axle i guess it unloaded the rear axle where he got more traction so we're gonna see what happens i think he's gonna come on over this and make this bonus line happen he's almost there folks there goes the wheel speed we're gonna see what happens i think he'll make it [Music] all right that's it well he broke your [Music] driveshaft tough luck for ian harkins today um ian tell me what happened dude uh i tried to uh get a little overzealous with it and apparently screwed up a bunch of stuff up there sounds like we uh might have broke a crossmember or upper link or something off the cross member we've definitely detonated a drive shaft i believe and so he'll be out for the day we're going to go get to our next contestant see you soon [Music] we are with contestant three this is alex watkins uh we're gonna get him started my name's alex watkins i'm from huntsville alabama been wheeling for probably about 10 years total it's a 95 tacoma it's a ls base 6-0 cast iron cast head turbo 400 203 205 doublers all 32 spline stuff dana 60 with yukons and then the rear is just a stock 14 bolt four linked on coil overs and interior cage and basically a pretty common setup a lot of people run it just works because i like the wheelbase it's more like a limo than anything what got me into four wheeling is uh back in i don't know probably about 10 years ago i started out on four-wheelers with all your buddies going hanging out and then as they faded out i got more progressive into it and went from foilers to razors to full-size rigs this is my second full-size rig and it just it's a whole different kind of wheeling you know it's and it's an accomplishment when you take a big rig up something versus a foiler or something small make a short work of this first obstacle coming on up ready to pop off into this bowl here across the two marvin how do you see this truck doing oh man i'm excited to see it i love seeing a toyota of 42 red labels coming through here and 130 inch wheelbase or something crazy crazy yeah it's super long so he's gonna have completely different lines that's true he's got to suck down as well which is going to be super helpful for him all right number one completed successfully walking these courses is just incredible i'll tell you it shows the uh like i'm a mountain goat all day today [Music] tired [Music] he wants to be able to make up some points but he's still in his first week cheers [Music] getting ready for a second approach here on obstacle number two yeah he's gonna come up that right side ah you ain't getting in there with a tire coming up over this rock is going to help him [Music] he's having a little more trouble than i expected on this uh second obstacle he's gonna come on up it for sure but uh you can back up get your whole driver side tires right there [Music] come on there we go oh good we laid it down decided to give it a little less power and come on around so now we're heading over here into obstacle three which is our bowl we've seen all the breakage at today and all the crazy lines and hard times so um alex is ready to rolling up into the bowl dropping deep into this hole big big boy [Music] with that long wheelbase though so he'll make very very short work of this obstacle he is going to come up out of this obstacle i think with sneeze he's going to he's going to catch right here look yep there he goes that's it right there tire's a good little heat in them they'll get a good little sticky and they'll pull him all around i think there he goes yep making progress [Music] a little bit of the beans here [Music] let him bump it a little bit i don't think you don't have any problems there let's go let's just go just need to stay in it [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Music] so uh so uh we're gonna pull winch right now he's had more than three attempts um we're at a position that you know time is against us we don't want these guys driving the dark as much as possible and uh you know it's gonna get entertaining before the end of the day we're only on obstacle number three with driver number three so we'll see what [Music] happens all right we're back uh with cole miller many of you guys know him from the 24 hellenback now he's back here to compete at reign of rocks hi my name is cole miller from millageville georgia i've been four wheelers for about 10 years now we've met marvin at koh this year and we just got done with the helm back a couple months ago and we're going to come do it again it's a 2008 jk with a ls motor swap atlas crane 14 bolt 40 inch red stone woods drive shafts a custom cage a little beat up got flipped a couple weeks ago but uh it's back never actually been here never seen it so it's something totally different from what i'm used to just excited to get out there and see what we can do with it fire it up buck yeah cole uh has been talking a big game he's like oh i'm not gonna i'm not gonna lay into it i'm not gonna break it i'm like yeah he's gonna lay into it he's gonna he's gonna be hard on it we all nicole all right he's coming up as we figured short work about one he'll get his points first pretty well this jeep's got a ls power come on his ls2 ls2 powered one ton axles 60 14 bolt on ori long travel suspension rcv axles psc steering and all the goodies all right hp dropping into obstacle number two it really has been nice we're actually at an event where most all the rigs are hp2 i'm just going to my former jk owners proud [Music] he's doing great another 30 points zinged it through obstacle 2 like it was nothing [Music] right there [Music] be careful so another competitor brent rockwood is uh actually spotting coal through once again another good example of sportsmanship a lot of fun there he is he's coming on up he's actually man he can make that line right there and stay to the left a little bit more he'll probably do all right oh yeah he's making oh [Music] [Music] oh yeah man that was one incredible climb right there now wheelbase has not been anybody's friend here on this on this turn but i think cole's front end is light enough on his jeep the horsepower balance i think he actually might be to make it happen making great strides through here great driving from coal it's great driving yeah really really real everything so far oh man he's freeze to it keeps functioning really well he's killing him it's gonna be hard for people to catch up to him yeah i like to see that kohl's fast driving style efg red labels wheelbase and ls perfect perfect combination mark perfect [Music] combination competitor number five axel stanley aka my dad my name is axel stamill and i live in atlanta originally i'm from germany that's where the thick accent is coming from i'm 55 years old now and i started really in germany when i was 18. this is in 1995 for the most part 1995 gyj i've bought it 16 years ago i have that atlas transfer case a pc steering rcv access 40 splines in the rear 35 splans in the front curry axles articulates crazy with the bealtsteins and the custom suspension that i have on it it's uh absolutely amazing i'm very happy with the current state of it but i'm sure it's not the last we're right here obstacle one it's getting dark quick now so we got some lights with us tim's ready to rock temps are dropping it's getting cold yep so let's go let's rock and roll start your engine and let's hit the trail [Music] axel has incredible driving skill driving off-road a long time super confident driver he really pushes the rig you guys saw him for the last youtube videos a while back we uh all went to aop together and axel uh turned her upside down not something he commonly does either which is kind of wild but uh yeah he uh really impressed me with this rag and his driving skill [Music] so great driving as i expected from axl [Music] he's tangled all up there we go [Music] wow there it is there it is oh yeah great driving by axel stanley didn't expect any less from him he's a strong driver axel having that short wheelbase is able to make some turns like nobody else is able to make he's got a curry rock jock axles under the jeep so it uh actually gives him a lot more ground clearance as well so he's on a bit smaller tire than everybody else too but man he's not gonna have any problems at all tonight talk about a killer right [Music] it is night time here at chicopen off road park and we got brent rockford on the line my name is brent rockwood i'm from asheville city tennessee and we're out here at chick-fin-off road to do rain of rocks with flex rocks and roll overs i've been wheeling about 20 years i started wheeling with my dad when i was a kid got bought my first jeep when i was 13. i've had about 50 of them this is my 95 yj tj hybrid 42 inch bfg reds 20 inch custom race lines ls 40 spline 14 volt rear 300 mrcv with dana60 in the front it's a tj body on a yj frame all custom suspension we did in the shop custom paint custom cage everything's done in-house and just just my little budget build we've got it built right got our cvs front back and you know i tried to maintenance it so hopefully we don't have any any failures it's getting late and it's getting cold knock it out man brent what's your uh what's your initial thoughts uh i wish it was daylight but it's nighttime we're gonna do our best uh try to light it up and we're gonna we're gonna hit it he'll do a good job you guys can do great be safe my brother all right rock and roll we'll see you soon there you go keep it straight all right so brent cleared gate one after a little hiccup and now he's approaching the kind of shaky start figured out what he's doing now man i don't know what was going on there didn't have the right line it happens and then he got all tangled up it happens it is late we're tired it is dark but we're still running getting ready to drop into the first hole here [Music] [Music] brent's now getting his footing he's easing on through the second obstacle [Music] [Music] [Music] all right brent rockwork dropping into the ball and headed towards gate number three he is not doing the bonus line let's see how many tries he's gonna need to get it get through the ball and up gate three he's a super experienced driver he has two helen backs under his belt he did one as a co-driver with andrew bailey and one the most recent one he completed in his own rig he's one hell of a driver got a very capable rig built by hookah motorsports [Music] himself [Music] [Music] dropping in nice good got good form his line is right looking good [Music] oh [Music] all right that is strike one [Music] anyway [Music] [Music] oh smooth 20 points for grand rockwood in the bowl [Music] uh come on [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right we have our uh next contestant which is mark hendricks works with me at hooker motorsports and uh he's got a really really awesome shot built rig it's ready to tackle it with some new bfg stickies my name is mark hendricks i'm from mount pleasant tennessee i work at the shop with brent and andrew at hooker motorsports i'm the paint and body guy and installer it's a 2006 jeep unlimited rubicon still running the 4-0 automatic and the stock transfer case kingpin dana60 up front 14 bolt rear hydraulic steering 42 inch kr2 s's on kmc 20 inch wheels uh what makes me nervous is uh not being able to kind of walk it and see what's going on and not being able to kind of test it out first i've never been here so we'll see how the day goes there you go mark good job mark's getting off to a good start with the temps dropping it'll be a little bit of work to get them stickies heated up a little bit but uh he's gonna do just fine i'm confident [Music] all right [Music] um [Applause] all right [Music] mr mark hendricks is heading on down into the bowl obstacle 3. he's going to ease on down he's got a little bit longer wheelbase than brent so i think he's going to have some good luck cole's spotting him in cole's a trooper he wanted to head home and we uh convinced him to stay to help out mark just went from pbrs to uh bf goodrich stickies so uh got a whole new jeep playing with some coilover rates and stuff too so some of it's good some of it's not so good today i think he's just uh hanging out trying to figure out what works best for him mark's got a long wheelbase so he's having to [Music] spend a couple times getting around get himself set up one more time there he is oh oh it's going to take him a while to get his jeep turned around he's he's long wheelbase he's tied up in there there he is there he goes there he goes yep ah there he goes there you go there it is yup there he is mark hard driver mark's on up out of the hole did great wonderful bring around up the tree marcus come on come on right there hard passenger back around up come on back brother hard hard driver there you go brother run around up yep yep come on back marcus hard passenger so mark's now through obstacle three as well he did a pretty stellar job being honest with you heading on up to the obstacle four to meet up with brent we're gonna back it on up and get to the suzuki and uh get them on up on the course we have our last driver of the day got our nice suzuki here we're ready to go my name is jackson wolfenbarger and i'm from newmarket alabama how long have i been four-wheeling probably 12 years or so started when i was 16 got into it friend of mine friend of mine's uncle took me one time and was hooked after that it is a samurai buggy it's a suzuki samurai base it's got a tracker one six eight valve in it with a t25 turbo running off propane it's got the stock five speed samurai clutch or a semi-transmission and then it's got a billet case transfer case it's a samurai transfer case it's got a billet housing you know geared super low and that's about it what brings me here i invited me and i feel like i wanted to give it a shot at an event i've never been in an event like this there's not really events for the smaller guys to rock crawl and i feel like it's a great opportunity to meet some great guys and have a good time fire your engines up let's do it [Music] [Music] jackson made short work of that suzuki [Music] very short work this course afraid to drop into obstacle two the baby bowl he is flying through this course boys and girls climb to this course [Music] he's got a well-balanced range getting ready to drop into obstacle three see what jackson does in the zoo i think he's gonna avoid the bonus line no he's gonna avoid the bonus line man he needs to do that bonus i'm telling you blowing through this course boys [Music] jackson's dropping off in uh obstacle three now what we call the bowl big bowl see what type of uh strategy he has here i think he's going to come right up this way yep as i expected [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] there he is he's up boys and girls so we got jackson and the zoo buggy on up doing a great job he's about to um lose a bearing in his alternator so uh trying to hold it together it's definitely getting louder as the night moves on [Applause] one more time [Music] oh so hard driver jackson's come off in the hole for the bonus line there it is now things are getting very interesting drive shaft so jackson's gonna have to reset [Music] just a matter of wheelbase there [Music] he one shotted that again out of the bowl there you go see if you can get on up hold it yep yep that's it there it is he's got it now boys and girls all right jackson's up and over [Music]
