how many people in this room I've ever had one of those days when everything just sitting in his career starts out wrong wrong side of the bed wrong side of the pillow whatever put your hands up raise your hands that's what I thought every one of you now the world pulls that game with me I'm gonna tell you what I do I safely [Music] that's right savor it and let me tell you why because you aren't going anywhere anytime soon without a struggle without a fight without people doubting me questioning you trying to keep you down too many of you don't realize that but what's the point of succeeding the succeeding is easy I never got that never understood people who wish they were born rich never understood athletes who just wanted to join the best teams build your own business start your own dynasty a good start to a day is easy I want no part of easy I want the struggle there we go I want the fight I want the paint this and then I want the best feeling the feeling that the world did everything it could to be to the end zone but I won yes it it starts here in Kansas City the city of fountains getting sent for this AFC West matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs on a sticky nights at 80 70 degrees and humidity is high and a possible thunderstorm in the second half of this game now they sheets won the toss and elected to defer they're going to send it down to the Broncos to get this started that's right keep the crowd into it I think that's why Andy Reed turned II turned it down to put that Broncos offense offense out there crowd noise and a talented defense Kansas City has also [Music] cheeps with an opening went down at Houston never a home victory hard plug battle was against Baltimore Cairo Santos to kick Andre Caldwell is back deep for the Broncos Santos delivers the touch back well paint through it 40 times last Sunday Phil and I don't think you're looking for anything close to that tonight no tonight will be the exact opposite because last week they felt like they couldn't run the ball against the Baltimore Ravens and they couldn't tonight Peyton's gonna huddle up more they're gonna run Gary Kubiak offense that means more runs to tight ends play-action passes and look for that big play-action pass down the field the opportunity is also going to sue manning under center a lot more than the gun we saw Sunday and with two tight ends and they get it to Anderson he's got a wonderful hole on the first play of the game there's Eric barium gets the skits to start but Anderson able to take it out there for 14 beautiful double team on the right coming around Evan Memphis number 69 gets the block inside he was the big free agent pickup late in preseason very unhappy to the way he played last week that's a nice start for an offensive lineman and this offense running the ball like that and and he'll tell the 29 yards we got about half that total on his first carry that night has a double here and Houston and Pepito is a great long run stopper right at the line of scrimmage Gary Kubiak a winner in his debut on the Denver sideline as the head coach but you do have this if you will merging of different offensive bots of these what pains done his whole career and the way Kubiak likes to do it maybe a little mercy this is Gary Kubiak saw offense everybody that's what it's good we're going to see Peyton Manning's not in charge of the offense anymore for the Denver Broncos it's Gary Kubiak and what he likes to do a second intent they give it again to Anderson and is a gain of two if he's not in controls off a baton of this office what do you think the last time was in his career when he didn't have all of the offense well you know it's strange it's he's got to adapt to this new way of playing and you and I were talking about it and I think we came up with this probably the second year of his career when he took over the audience an offensive coordinator down in Indianapolis when I go to the gun here on third and nine they bring in Norwood as the third receiver Nate's first pass complete meant well short of the first Sanders the recipient Sanders who caught five balls last week on third down for conversions but did not run a deep enough route this time and the Broncos will come off the field yeah what they were doing third and long look what everybody is here in the back they faked the Blitz and they're gonna let Peyton Manning throw it short and they come up and make the tackle that's what you want to do on third and long well done by the Kansas City teams at the Colquitt brothers punting on each side here tonight this is Britton the younger brother by almost three years [Applause] the Anthony Thomas comes up to about the 13th and with that left sideline 25 yard punt 6 yard return Broncos pickup 22 yards on their first possession but forced to punt will see the Chiefs offense next Alex Smith and the Chiefs break huddle hasn't thrown an interception his last hundred 25 throws he's thrown the fewest in the league since 2010 and their first snap goes to Charles that's a hit and somehow slides out to about the 27 for a run of six couple of defenders had a play on him early yeah they did misdirection fake the reverse gives Jamaal Charles a little cut bike lane and hey the speed of the Broncos defense they kind of showed up right there because they stopped that could have been a big home run but they recovered after being fooled by the fake reverse and Von Miller finally grabbed them by the ankles where is out for the second down snap at second and four katella's up the middle for the first down Jane ray came in from where made the tackle but another six yard run for Jamaal Charles in his eighth year out of the University of Texas these all-time rusher in Chief's history they do a great job with Jamaal Charles Jim in this offense and what I mean by that they don't just pile him up inside all the time they get him on the edges they get him in the pass game to use formations because they want a per serving and not let him get beat up and so I think admitted through the season of course so dangerous with the screen game we got a flag free snap call here Walt and right on the snap false start number 75 offense five-yard penalty still first down and while they Anderson celebrating his 20th season as an NFL referee his crew is the most experienced of all the crews in the league with a hundred and two combined years of service so where comes back and missing a snap and the man who have replaced of their first router out of Missouri shame ray made the tackle on that previous play but they back up up five first and 15 Marcus liras miked up tonight here contact instead the pass complete his James asana see the rookie out of Illinois State with a flag out they picked up 24 personal foul roughing the passer number 94 defending forcible contact lonely the quarterback 15-yard penalty first down double add up another 15 after the 24 yard pickup and there's no question where went low on Smith Jay did good thing Alex Smith has had been front leg that kind of saves a quarterback when you throw it properly that time he got him low and survived but they use those three tight ends and a couple of different looks and that time with the play-action fake Denver turned around they could not pick up all the guys that's why O'Shaughnessy was wide open O'Shaughnessy taken at the fifth time this year with his first NFL catch [Music] never miss a moment of football action with the CBS sports app every play every story every highlight right as they happen download the CBS sports app now well this when you watch Kansas City Andy Reid's one of those coaches they do they like to have that play sheet the first 15 plays it's usually a lot of formations very deceptive and they're going to give defense the defense things they have not seen anything so far Kelsey split wide to the left wrist look that way too goes right and he's got the hook off with Jeremy Maclin the former eagle who signed with the Chiefs back in March getting reunited with his former coach Andy Reid picks up 12 well you got a great pass rush we know that about the Denver Broncos but this week they're not facing the Baltimore Ravens where you kind of know it's a static offense doesn't do a lot tonight the screens to quick passes the run game everything involved it's going to be harder for bond Miller and DeMarcus Ware just to come after the quarterback inside the 25 and those of the football first down Perry goes to Charles he's to the 10 down there they ate then drugs helped open up a huge alley and a flag is not on the back end [Music] [Applause] [Music] after the play personal foul unnecessary roughness number 98 [Applause] darius kill go rookie from Maryland flag for that and that'll set up Kansas City inside the five two big plays starting us the two big penalties by the Broncos gildo came into the game last week of rookie number 98 played very well Ben drugs on the lead block up inside too late first and goal from the 3 looked like Denver Chomp Charles knocked down in the backfield his Miller trying to anticipate the snap and he's gonna be flack for it oh five on a 58 half the distance to the goal is still first down Bob Miller down to the goal line trying to make that play quick anticipate the snap count and just a little too quick they're three defensive penalties on this drive three tight ends for the Chiefs that's Kelsey O'Shaughnessy and Harris could be as clean three times today they like the bubble screen play with Delta but they're gonna go to the other side backs up three yards to make the catch this Chiefs team of course has gone so long without a wide receiver catching a touchdown since the start of last season because you got to go back to the thirteenth season when the waynebow caught the last touchdown by a Chiefs wide receiver it been 590 touchdowns recorded by wide receivers so we bring it up to them of course and what do you think they say you don't care we really don't care but the last it was a double screen Alec Smith picked up inside Tampa still see that a good chance of school kids head out and helps you with more than watching him for Jeremy Maclin as the Broncos defense has tightened on these last two snaps yeah little too quick that time Alex Smith has got to read the money back in the flat watch 87 as he comes inside and hooks up he tries to get rid of it quick and there's nobody there to cover Travis Kelce so early in the game not unusual for quarterbacks to be fast in their decision-making and especially when you're playing a team in the back here Matt as a quarterback you go you know they can get after the passer every single play this Broncos deepavali AMA touchdown last second third and goal from the father's the power's out and it's recovered by Darian Stewart who saved the game last Sunday with an interception in the final half minute knocked loose by David Bruton Wow all of that down the field for the Chiefs the beneficiaries of a couple of big penalties they not only stall inside the five they turn it over Stewart with the recovery [Music] downtown Kansas City in Union Station and a lot of disappointment inside Arrowhead is the Chiefs nothing materialized in the end they pop it up and here come the Broncos with a sack turned in by the Chiefs defense to Vito is the one who gets the Manning well look like pyramids absolutely I hate that phrase they're not on the same page with Emmanuel Sanders I think Peyton Manning's looking for a little double move on the outside it took too long and then finally Mike DeVito got here to give the sack thank the minnow has already had a nice stop the line of scrimmage on a rushing play now has the sack he missed almost all the last season entered week one last year with an Achilles injury second at 14 and it's Anderson again clogged up no game Houston coming up along with Derrick Johnson is moving in on a thousand career tackles putting the Broncos in a precarious situation near film better and 14 from the four yeah but the play is the beat safe be careful draw play screen but the crowd noise terrific pass rushers backed up all going against the Broncos offense right now Manny calls the timeout [Applause] what did he see that well just the play clock was against him he sees the defense time you're thinking and get your to get everything in order it just it was too much that's why he called a timeout and it's a good time out because the position on the field and where we are here early in the game it's crucial play coming up particularly is uneven as the Broncos offense has been here at the start of the season well you see what Payton did up until he got injured against San Diego last year it was it was once again those Star Wars kind of numbers before they came back down to earth he just wasn't a hundred percent just couldn't shake off that injury and said it went well into the off-season another at least three weeks to a month before everything was back to normal Gary's in the gun standing in the end zone a third of 14 it is going to [Applause] trying to hook up with Sanders Fleming on the coverage you know Jim that's a safe play when you backed up the tour deep down the field is about as safe as it can come you just want to get rid of the football quick enough to make sure the rush done to get here but at Peyton Manning throws this up in the air a little higher the Emmanuel Sanders is going to run under it and catch this ball now when he throws it deep his motion is great he throws beautiful spirals and you can see that that right here Emmanuel Sanders fast we've got to give him a lot of cushion when he takes off down the field Colquitt seven yards deep in the end zone sends it deep to the 40 and Thomas a flag is out it's going to back up the Chiefs [Applause] hot Davis on the tackle 56-yard boot three yard run back but add it all up with the penalty no doubt going against the Chiefs gonna be like a 66-yard change of field position here yeah it could be a blindside hit that's what it looked like it was close [Applause] they're having a discussion whether or not charcandrick west did in fact during the return personal foul unnecessary roughness number 35 receiving team blindside block high 15 yard penalty we forced down Kansas City high mountain it is on West Chiefs retreat to about the 25 don't miss the season premiere of TVs number one comedy on its new night The Big Bang Theory Monday 87 cents play here on CBS the penalty knocks the Chiefs back 15 mercs to the 27 [Applause] wiggles out to the 34 three mention earlier to DeMarcus Ware is miked up and let's see what he has to say early it's up to watch he says and it's a second and seven for the Chiefs as they load up the backfield Thomas has come on mochi Kelsey Kelsey hit find Warren at the 45 at Travis Kelce with his first catch goes for 16 that's about as long as you can hold the football to when you play this defense DeMarcus Ware gets a big hit on Alex Smith and what they've done so far Jim they're running the football up the middle Alex Smith getting rid of the football fast as he can because they know what did the two pass rushers to destroy the game we saw where last Sunday and the backfield with Flacco threw out that game first and ten pre-snap flag again won't start number 87 offense five-yard penalty still first down with Travis Kelce he has some big personality and he brings a lot to this team emotionally last week just look at some of the next-gen stats here and during the quarterback game over a thousand yards he's a tight end so the sidelines not his enemy in a lot of formations he gets one of the best matchups on the field why because usually he's going to have a linebacker very safety on him and he's to go in fast no matter who gets out hot matches up with the next six catches drop back at the 35 and there's where again DeMarcus Ware he's reunited now with Wade Phillips they had three plus years together down in Dallas well what detail Von Miller when Wade Phillips was hired as a defensive coordinator he goes everything that's going to change for us because the three-four defense allows DeMarcus Ware and von Miller to go after the quarterback much more than they did and the 4-3 defense they played the past few years Wade Phillips positive message to this Denver defense his second stint as the deck coordinator on post goes back another century ago a second of 19 again flag is out my Kikkoman rubs his von miller tosses smith to the turf and it falls apart fast holding number 66 offense a penalty has declined star down von miller what he's been in the league long enough he's got the experience we see the talent he's top of your screen and now he's in a defense that really fits that talent and we're gonna see it really blossom this year maybe more than we ever have in his career so far that is his 50th career sack the third fastest to ever get to him how about last week he disrupted the game from start to finish I forgot his stats maybe nothing but he had a check for the pathetic slide in attack going over the head with more pressure in the area of Wilson and after moving it so effectively inside the five the first time only to pop up the football this time nothing worked right for the Chiefs offense and we know why they're trying to run it thro screens get rid of it quick no matter how good you are up front those to pass blockers are going to be almost impossible to block on a consistent basis Dustin go quick this first part of the night [Applause] watching it is it bounds in the field of play and that is a beautiful punt by Dustin Colquitt that's down near the 10-yard line 58 yard boots peyton manning coming up for the third time three and a half to go first quarter Kansas City Chiefs coach of the week up at Staley high school 20 miles from Arrowhead stepping down after 30 years and five state titles at the end of this year steam already for our congratulations goats from the 11 play-action coming after man making the play on it was Peters Sanders was the target and Tompa Holly was the one who effected that throw this is what they think they can do big play action let Peyton Manning get some room so he can step up in the pocket and deliver the football down the field Emmanuel Sanders looked like he was going to get here very good play by the defensive back Wow his head got bounced around a little bit when we met with fate yesterday he said he was sore last week he was sacked four times and knocked down another nine times week to recover second again maple to scamper out for about three setting a third and seven if one pill could make you a genius what will you do don't miss the series premiere of limitless Tuesday at 10:00 9:00 central homeland CBS you and I have done a lot of games with paint mania as a quarterback in Indiana and dipper between the last two realistic played our games San Francisco the preseason and last week the number hits and number of sacks usually takes have two here to see that this offensive line lot of mental mistakes last week that first when there was physical third and seven and they're coming after his third down favorite that paying Emmanuel Sanders for the first now Jamel Fleming number 30 nice job here it's a blitz up inside Peyton Manning saw it and he just automatically drifted to his left to give himself a throwing Lane the Blitz was not picked up a really good throw by Peyton on that one very good throw but once again there's the Blitz and somebody coming free to the quarterback that body Hillman's in the game the fake to him look at his hands by Parker oh just when it looked like it was going to be caught what a play by Parker to reach in and Pat it down we're back at a scrimmage bowling number 50 defense five-yard penalty from the previous spot automatic first down the gym let's let's look at the pattern here he goes down the field they're not going to be fooled the safety is going to get back there but he loses the football so paid man he does the right thing he throws it across the field and Sanders cuts under Parker their time and what a recovery by Parker so even though they were not fooled they heading double-team throw it up there and let your fast receiver Daniel Sanders go get it got a new set of downs at the 27 Cody Latimer and as a receiver it's cold first round Peters they take advantage for six well you know the first rule of thumb deep in sit back don't get beat deep so field position knowing the situation don't be too aggressive market Peter Peters did a good job that time Peters who made that interception last Sunday on his first NFL play as the Chiefs Nixon and I got away the way men used to second at four just back to the line of scrimmage a Howard there to meet him well last year the Kansas City defense one of the worst in the NFL against the run they got back Mike DeVito that Billy helps and J Howard big top run stopper inside and of course getting Derrick Johnson Eric Berry all those guy guys back helps out to defense Bob subs the defensive coordinator very aggressive I'm sure we're going to see some glitches tonight because the top of the thighbone good job but picking him up so far third and four loose cannon has another sack for the eighth consecutive game Justin Houston gets in the sack column obvious passing situations it put Ryan Harris number 68 one-on-one against one of the best pass rushers in the NFL that's tough second sack of the night already six on the season in five quarters on Payton he was dumped last year only 17 times through the whole year six in five quarters as we're about to run out of the first quarter a scoreless verse 15 prior to the snap this is the end of the first quarter we'll return to Kansas City after these messages you're watching Thursday Night Football CBS home of Super Bowl 50 then back in Kansas City Jim Nantz Ville Sims Tracy Wolfson and Mike Carey as well should we need any rules explanations we're going to start the second quarter with Denver punting her first quarter that produced no points for sacks by the two teams to each and seven penalties [Applause] Britton Colquitt to be returned another flag out on special teams of the ball came in at the end Todd Davis cradles the football says hey I got the ball here there's not a whole lot of excitement coming from anybody like I think they're talking to see if anybody saw the football come out that's why they're having that conference since it's not called on the fielding on the field was the runner the punt returner was down by contacted during the return illegal block in the back number 84 saving team 10 yard penalty first down Shaughnessy let's make sure in fact the rule not the balls out early it's out Gary Kubiak got to challenge this and of course he will Juwan Thompson what a backup running back was one of reached in went in there and punched it out watch his right arm two times they've been careless handling the football the Kansas City Chiefs and this Broncos defense special teams it doesn't matter they're all fast look at the long snapper even mixing it up in there Aaron Brewer Shaq Barrett Juwan Thompson I think is the one who got a handle on it you can see the recoveries clear there's no question [Applause] not exactly sure why the red flags not already out and just gone with it well could you clearly see the footballs I watched the second time I go okay I know Todd Davis got up with it but could you seem recover the football during the replay that's what the big question has to be and here it comes to play Denver is challenging the routing on the play that the punt returner was down by contact there's Davis coming in now it's clear he's got it it's gonna set up the Broncos they're gonna win this with no doubt in the dirty it's gonna be Broncos football closer to the twenty actually down it's a fumble we have a clear recovery by Denver number 51 it'll be Denver's ball at the 31 yard line instead of penalty for the illegal block in the back by number 80 is declined Denver is not charged for the timeout would make it at the 31 Mike Carey what took so long to throw out the red flag well first of all the rule is you have a two part review from both check clear recovery check what took so long is that on a transition game it's not clear who is responsible the deeds of the coach what went over those new VIP with his and now we're on okay Mike second fumble recovered by the Broncos he goes up top for tameria's Thomas's first catch of the night goes for nine it had a hard time protecting Paton here this is we saw last Sunday and there's been all kinds of sweeping changes on this offensive line from a year ago Phil yeah look what it was last year compared to what we have seen so far this year last week the Broncos made mental mistakes tonight they're just getting run over so far by the front cut painful city rookie left tackle a first year player at center lady big injured on the first day of OTAs Anderson unable to convert it Houston hasn't wrapped up for no gain 13 lon Tim you talked earlier about Peyton Manning where you could see him play many games in a row before he would take a sack and he didn't take many big hits but the last two games two and a half games we've seen so much of this no matter who you are what your age is if you can hit like this and this often as a quarterback you're not played just your offensive line hard to make good decisions and make those PROFIBUS you don't have and the Chiefs it's Houston again clogging the middle so they add second and one and they make two stops at the line and Gary Kubiak leads the offense on the field I think you got to kick the field goal here in a game where points are so hard to come by you see your defense is playing great tip yourself that's reading up the lead but he must have a fourth down play he really likes to risk this situation and one after the Thomas bubble the KC 22 [Applause] has it and Derrick Johnson brings them down 30-second timeout Gary Kubiak saying who called timeout it wasn't me so no play so we're back to 4th and 1 all over again by passing a 40-yard field goal to go into round the sandwich tips are there that looks like parker stopped in short [Applause] [Music] [Applause] what a play by Parker the safety comes up and just tackles him perfectly to keep him close to that first down marker I thought it had everybody fooled when you saw the reverse coming cheap spit down so how was Paul taking away what would have been a first house they even called it but the ball was coming out anyway and then they had to go back to this play which was warranted by the cheats [Music] tonight the emmy-nominated series undrafted return then football town historian Barrow Alaska and the love of the game play trainer miles above the Arctic Circle a sneak peek at two NFL Network original series tonight after the post game only on NFL Network which wins out for about four and you did say even before that first attempt at fourth and one not you thought they should have gone field goal let's watch Ryan Parker first how about that he doesn't get fooled by the window dressing stays with his key and goes over there and makes a perfectly formed tackle feet planted arms wide and stopped him short of the first down so the Chiefs have coughed it up twice but still have not surrendered any points here in the second quarter I think the big thing in large your defenses are Mendes play to an opportunity excellent it's the double whammy both Harris and Shack Barrett's Shack Barrett an outside linebacker who comes in and gives DeMarcus Ware and von Miller a little time off all-conference player Colorado State the Mountain West he won the conference deep into play of the year a couple years ago and came into camp in great shape and just give him one more guy on the outside to go out to Decatur pretty impressive line back in the poor both inside and out and that Broncos defense that's gonna bring out the flag on Miller [Applause] [Applause] division rivals lot of emotions second game of the year a lot of mistakes [Music] [Applause] you know what could be the discussion here spring in my carry there are two fouls on the play both start number 79 offense personal foul unnecessary roughness number 58 defense bow rule the five-yard penalty is disregarded and the 15-yard penalty will be informed for sound oh it's not nullifying penalties got what it's a five and fifteen there's a hit that's a good call like you kind of answered my question I'm going what's taking so long to make the call and you do right away yeah if you have two fouls and it difficult to know it was the offset or not but if there's only a five-yard penalty we're going to enforce the 15-yard penalty every time and that's the third personal foul penalty against the Denver defense Chiefs set up with new downs at the 39 they go inside - Charles couple maybe three after the game catch the man who's taking late night television by storm critics calls even Colbert a winning ticket don't miss the Late Show tonight after your local news a lot of penalties of course in the emotions are high it sometimes can lead to penalties but just to go to this Kansas City offense the speed of this Denver defense the screens and boom are non-existent Activision there's a player pulling on his back that being Malik Jackson and another flag comes down personal foul unnecessary roughness number 97 he's been hitting the runner who is on the ground 15-yard penalty first down well this has been explained during the offseason there was a point of emphasis on this to make sure these extra hits piling on to the runner receiver whatever that you can't do it and I know it's a rough tough game but I'm still a good call he was down on the ground and Malik Jackson had enough time to pull off about four roughness calls if you will against the Denver defense as Kansas City's moving cost down by to leave after seven and what does Jeremy Maclin bring to this team that they haven't had well he just brings a home run threat from the wide receiver position of course Andy Reed had him in Philadelphia and they're very excited about what he can do because they think he can always win the one-on-one matchups outside he's a tremendous route runner and great addition to the team as you look at his numbers a year ago big numbers in Philadelphia and he found a different ante read when he got reunited with him here calling the pros in New Jersey City and discipline offense now he said he was have you trained inside the toy walkers in front and he's in for the touchdown [Applause] and you were talking about Jeremy Maclin he threw a pivotal block that helped get Charles into the endzone you got to do it in all phases couple things here the inside watching looks tremendous call him in a blitz nice cutback by Jamaal Charles and then the speed to get it done the quick step count by Alex Smith was a key there also times up perfectly JA Reed just pushes it down inside and you're right down the field Jeremy Maclin leading the way [Music] our pile on camera the sores right above beyond there was a star running the football that time and Jamal tall's he's never talked about when he talked about running back for players in the NFL in his career I think he's averaging over five yards a carry he is he's got the biggest average per carry in the history of the game better than number two being Jim Brown so they're going to take the long-range extra point Santos inhibit all of his attention get on this way this 78-yard drive 30 of which were off defensive penalties and Charles takes it home seven nothing Kansas City NFL Thursday Night Football is sponsored by Pandora the next song matters the Lexus is 235 nationwide nationwide is on your side the national world world one museum and memorial right here in Kansas City what a collection they have [Music] yes Charles in Charge when he gets that open field forget it he'll has the speed that we saw early in his career as you're right give a little open field and you can outrun anybody Santos the direction comes bold well this is going to go through the back of the end zone almost in the row one pretty impressive blocking effort to buy the Chiefs a couple things Jim the biggest one is watch JA Reed pushed down inside and give him a chance for the cutback but once TJ Ward as he comes flying up there you got to be careful but cause of the running back you're facing so he was aggressive and Jamaal Charles is cut to the outside too fast can't make up the ground by being so aggressive coming towards the line of scrimmage Ronnie Hillman we'll start out the running back on this Drive [Applause] after a 14 yard line the first play of the game that when we manage five yards rushing is eight attempts the Broncos [Applause] to Demaryius Thomas 4:6 here's a little next-gen look and what Jamaal Charles Jamaal Charles did with that touchdown run Wow he saw right away that cut back and then the great hustle by the wide receivers getting blocks downfield [Applause] second in turn on our kid at the 27 [Applause] for the first down you know just go back to that that last drive little bit gary kubiak we watch the pass outside they go deep nobody covers Virgil green in the flat but what we think it was a mistake not kicking the field goal Jim and then the personal fouls led to that touchdown for the Kansas City team no touchdown passes in his last 98 attempts that's not on this drought of his career six out of eight tonight [Applause] well played by Peters and a flag comes out from behind Thomas was the target Peters makes an appeal to Avast holy number 22 five-yard penalty for the previous month automatic first down next Thursday your weekend starts with Kirk Cousins in the red skins and a ruffle among rivals with Eli Manning and the Giants it's all here Thursday Night Football on CBS and NFL Network we're going to the NFC East is again there's a heavy emphasis on divisional action rivalry games Thursday Night Football first down off the hole that's Ronnie Hillman get it close to you now Phil during the preseason the first team unit of the Broncos was out there for 10 total drives 11 series last week and now this is their fifth drive of the night that's now this is the 26 alive for the first team offense and they still have not been in the end zone we see all the progress not getting enough time the run block is that great so far this season the opportunity is going too deep Fayette missed second entry and having a hold on them right away as J Howard you know we kind of goes back to what we said early in the game it's not Peyton Manning's offense anymore which he has run for so many years this is Gary Kubiak philosophy in the way he wants to manage the football team and the offensive side that graphic showed you 10 pass plays that's eight pass attempts and two sacks on Dropbox two and three are they going to bring it again they do it's Peters he's gonna take it home for the touchdown a free Blitzer is coming and Peyton Manning so he tries to anticipate the throne knowing they can't block everybody so the throne was a little off target here comes the Blitzer that's going to be free here's the matchup to watch in the outside Wow Peters who had that interception on the first play last Sunday in Houston the rookie selected 18th overall out of the University of Washington off to the races Jim they didn't pick up the Blitzer and they left one to down linemen come come away free also so another mistake by the Denver offensive line Santos good again that's two touchdowns in two minutes and 44 seconds and that's now to pick sixes run back on Peyton and the Broncos in five and a half quarters this season peyton manning's just been picked off run back 55 yards Marcus Peters for a touchdown hey Jim make no doubt about it we saw it last week the Baltimore Ravens and we're seeing glimpses of it here tonight the Kansas City Chiefs they see the problems it's offenses having having and they're going after them this was almost two boos last year people wouldn't do these type of things that gets Peyton Manning and the offense but they're emboldened by success they all out blitz playing for the short pass and timing it perfectly for an interception president Santos this one could be run back by Coldwell he'll take it out comes in which good backup the Broncos inside the 10 [Music] [Applause] during the return illegal hands hands to the face number 49 of the kicking team Oh five-yard penalty first down so little Daniel Sorensen blank for that for the Chiefs just look at the people up at the line of scrimmage everybody playing the receivers tight last year this would have been a screen a pick play but not only then look at three defenders back near Peyton Manning before he can even let the football go so communication it's not good it's not sound it is physically not taking charge either than offensive line for Tanner answered by Kansas City after this defense made that fourth down stop the field goal intercepted again off the fingertips of Fleming as he threw it too high for Hillman and if Peyton Manning was feeling any pressure coming into this game with all the talk that's been out there what do you think he's feeling now he's got a feeling I don't care who you are in this league if you played as many years of paint Manning has uncertainty like I've said on the offense all the football gets out of control they took away two deep pass they're trying to throw the time but not closing your block not staying with the first read because you figure that - who else is going to get second attempt [Applause] my Thomas they stepped up and got it into his hands for 19 yards that was a beautiful drone it was good job but stick stepping up in the pocket that's what he does very well and when he steps up Jim gives his legs underneath him and he can throw those football just like that on the money with enough power where the defense can't make the play I thought it would see more than here tonight long his pass play of the season for the Broncos 19 yards [Applause] Oh [Applause] you go sideways for about four well Hillman as you watch them run in there just has a little more speed to a step than when you see jay-z CJ Anderson coming in there he got beat up last week Hillman fresher a little bit quicker of the bunny banking they've gone so far tonight second at seven [Applause] and that's exactly what you said he likes to do step up and fling it for nine more for a first down to Sanders yeah what do you do with quarterbacks who are not going to break out go side to side you give them good protection right in front of them so that time that little hop and you see him hop like that he has a chance to put a little bit little bit more speed on the football and he gets there to throw the defects but the Kansas City side of the field protecting and throwing right on target it is to Sanders again beautiful thrown good tiny rhythm everything take this pass rush away by throwing the football in rhythm and that's a couple three three straight throws right on target by Peyton Manning at a timeout call by Kansas City charge timeout Kansas City so the best sequence of plays of the night for Denver timeout you don't seem the one thing I like when paint man he's in the shotgun there's no question it gives him a little more time it makes it easier on him and he can pop into those trolls which we have seen his eyes in conclusion let me out of the teach timeout [Applause] Peters defends it no flag Peyton looks different on this series so this is not exactly the type of offensive scheme we thought the Broncos would be going with all night tonight well you got to give yourself a chance to win Demaryius Thomas has it the footballs a little under thrown he has to slow down and it allows the rookie Marcus Peters to get back in there and make a play one thing that's really hurting Peyton is the Denver running game is not good again this week 12 carries for 29 yards and second down now they're going to run it when he went behind Sun Samurai low and Coldwell caught him that time they're gonna block it inside Sam brawler's gonna pull out what a block by him a left tackle he's a rookie very athletic see the receivers go inside here comes big 74 to lead the way and the second round left tackle out of power out of state big snap count caught him to Sam Tyler hunt with Grant there 16 yards in the red zone [Applause] Green was the intended target now let's look at what happened on the interception we saw the Blitz where's the football supposed to go outside he closed it inside that's why Peters makes the interception for the touchdown and that last play we saw the bootleg where the pass was not completed we saw that last week teach him and N is like the number one thought the Gary Kubiak does it his offense passing the football it's bootleg passes by the quarterback that was there at 2nd at 10:00 [Applause] short costume or ones with great [Music] well tip 15 watching this tonight Tim and I know the Broncos came in here they thought well we didn't do what we want to do last week and even Peyton Manning said it we're gonna run all the stuff that we made work alder and cam well it didn't turn out that way he looks much more comfortable he's in the shotgun and they when he's in control that's what he's done about the last 17 years and that's what he's folded seven inside three minutes to go first half and a timeout call by Peyton by now Fox one another the two coaches they've had a lot of time to set up the third and seven well I just say this there's nothing you can do on that defensive side kick and well for paint Manny he's the best of recognizing witches in what to do the mistakes have been biased teammates and the ditches so far tonight gotta get to the nine for the first and to City cease and respect the Kent's and dipper at last has found the end zone there Johnson was coming untouched towards Peyton Manning and he caught that football didn't even get a grip on it watch 56 and you absolutely set that up talking about how he was the best at recognizing these things he sees it listen we've seen it many times and I don't know what they were doing on the defensive side they were confused nobody followed Sanders underneath on the Blitz wide open great drive by the Broncos [Applause] [Music] McManus extra point is good quite a response by the Broncos and specifically hey ain't Manning he hit all the plays he needed to that time saw the Blitz and got rid of the football [Music] coming up on the Lexus halftime report JB Dion and coach Cowher and Tony Gonzalez will break down all the first-half action beyond then getting ready nice suit and I'll say that there's JP down the sideline we know one thing about JB tonight he's sweating down there cuz it's hot and humid here in Kansas City gonna be honoring members of the Chiefs Super Bowl champion 15 Super Bowl four at halftime here of a decay 26 yards away I thought Brett Favre 71 thousand yards even for Peyton was unattainable there was no way he was gonna be able to stay in the league long enough to get it done and of course I was wrong threw for 61 yards on that touchdown drive and again it was on a third down Sanders and anning so good giving up a third down there's a pathway and it's incomplete you thought for sure they would run it here with dipper out of timeouts you would ensure that the next snap would happen on the other side of the two-minute warning that's right you know always the first thing you want to do in a situation like this is to see the clock protect your team and don't give a quarterback that's pretty hot right now and paid many don't give them another chance to throw a few more passes against your defense this has got to be a run it's a heat to leave back-to-back pass plays by the cheats Aqib Talib read the quick drop by Alex Smith that's what he does we saw it last week against Joe Flacco he can read receivers and the quarterback look at him outside number 21 he's watching too caught a break five hug he believed oh my gosh his second interception in two weeks and where the Chiefs had every opportunity to at the very worst go into the locker room with a seven-point lead well I can see why Alex Smith threw the football the little fake Aqib Talib was way off the football and look at Wade Phillips he says this pair corners I have Chris Harrison Akeem to lead they're the best I've ever coached and what really drives it over the top they know how to and catch the football third takeaway for the Broncos [Applause] prease 4/7 the smith interception free streak has come to an end after 135 passes but the Bronco is out of timeouts now watch this one go down to the two-minute warning [Music] boy a sudden turn of events here Broncos eight yards away from tying it up before the intermission what did you make of that strategy if the Chiefs when they have a football sometimes it's okay to be predictable I thought they should have won the football keep it out of Peyton Manning's hand and end up making a big mistake that got the signal for the touchdown Jordan Norwood that's what we're used to seeing these type of plays immediately Peyton Manning sees Oh again I think it was a run play the corners too far off and he takes advantage of them I'm not sure the knee didn't hit first let's see arm yes it's gonna be toward them from the pylon cam rolling on the field the touchdown previous play is under further review that ruling on the field will be no doubt overturn there'll be about a half yard away I mean it's a bit of a shocking turn around at 14 nothing everything in the world is going wrong for the Broncos they've got no life on offense all the sudden they put together a drive and score the strategy backfires on the Chiefs to go to the air before the two-minute warning and just waiting for this to the overturn and that's right it'll be still a first down anyway after you during the play runner's knee down the ball is that the half yard line it will be first to go from the half for Denver the game clock will start on my signal second game of the year a lot of mistakes by the players out in the field personal fouls missing coverages not picking up the right guys on Blitzers in my opinion no big mistakes by the coaches here in the first day all set up this time by the tallit pick [Music] Ronnie Hillman is the running back six carries for 33 yards to starter Anderson has seven from 1914 handle the first play of the game [Applause] Mathilda across so they don't give it to him still plenty of time if they want to run this football three straight times he they will have enough time on the clock to do that you know Evan Mathis the left car do they signed after the third preseason game if you think they're gonna run it him or either guard both good run Walker again Thomas on what wing to the right look at the throw to the end zone he fathered it for a moment that they trap hold to the six quick decision and a really good one by Peyton Manning that ball was meant to throw to the right flat and throw short he immediately saw it was covered and looked for Virgil green back of the endzone coming from the other side this used to be Julius Thomas's role and for Zeke is now with Jacksonville injured here early and feet no question they're down Virgil green has his second career touchdown and the Broncos have a second touchdown in a minute and 43 second span [Music] [Applause] ties it with that 28 points scored in the last eight minutes and 20 seconds [Applause] well what a confidence builder for the Broncos look at the possessions they do nothing really on offense they have a 10-play 80-yard Drive that just pump like them to keep to lead makes it interception Jimmy man they got to go in and halftime and just know they aphorisms disaster though they were on the brink of this game the hustling absolutely 14 to nothing the crowd was into it they're not blocking anybody and what do they do they give it to Peyton Manning put him in the shotgun and he came through with some big troll bait with touchdown passes on two of his last three throws [Music] I want to turn around six of nine nothing going their way [Music] aniss denies any run-out opportunity and coming up on the Lexus halftime report JBD on his coach Cowher and tony gonzalez will break down all the first-half action and there was plenty of it they'll need to half times to go through everything is going on this game so far Chiefs have one timeout I don't think they're go throw a short pass I just got a feeling this time they're gonna run the football since you get the ball to start the second half Kansas City does quite a bit the first time faint smile [Applause] that Colonel Denver can't stop the clock [Music] they're gonna have to snap it one more time before they head to the locker room and again as you mentioned Kansas City deferred and will receive the second half kickoff let's go back and look at that touchdown real quick what went on feed me the fake you see the running back going outside covered and right away in the air makes the decision to throw it to Virgil green juice no first downs after the Jamaal Charles touchdown run they covered 34 yards Malik Jackson Jamaal Charles that's a bit of a mismatch they push and shove a little bit as the official comes between them Anthony Sherman comes over to protect his running back and that's his pretty much full time job as the fullback on this team that's the end of the first half with the score tied at 14 we'll be back with Alexis halftime report after this message and a word from your local station you're watching Thursday Night Football CBS the opponent super bowl cut [Music] you NFL Thursday Night Football presents the Lexus halftime report and here's your host James Brown [Music] to Peyton Manning touchdown tosses in a minute and 43 and we are home not at the half here our anthem 14 there's no question it turns that first half it was bad fake Matty or good Peyton Manning coach yeah there's no question about it but well you saw only the game we saw last week and you're gonna see right here this fourth gotta go he called timeout they ran this for the first down the subsequent play they got stopped on fourth down you're gonna see it he called time on the red three balls on the side I wondered blue called it where's Peyton Nina gets near the overthrow right here you know and a sudden another essentially do one for luck in but they all said you're insane get comfortable where he cocked and his shotgun he was stopped throw the ball quick that's what he's talked about you can say what you learn without last three minutes in the first half there's adversary's look this whole season this shotgun facing the defense again look how he started on 69 yeah but did you watch one interception bazooka see seven those last 10 right there what happened in the last five minutes in the first town that's when the best five minutes in the season but we could talk about it f is a Peyton Manning well let's talk about the deepest of the Kansas City Chiefs you gotta give these guys credit they strike with USand last week in this front for something to be record two sacks on today they've only relinquished 114 yards Jesse Houston told me to tell him he's a pram you know I heard to say something about being the past who is Jesse I'm gonna show you who I am today and the rookie Marcus Peters we thought that they were gonna take advantage of him but he paid dividend Sid know something happen at second interception of OCC alright guys we're gonna take it over the house let's a son-in-law for Kansas City you can see Alex Smith he's jumping back here he's gonna get on shouting he right here that time and he's gonna take it up the sideline but think of the 44 yard game right here and there Travis Kelce come into this game last week a hundred yards two touchdowns he only has one catch and it's this catch right here kid the credit to that different puzzle deepness for shutting it down so funny but this guy right here the playmaker the one I told you before the game started five point five yards of carry he gets up there and gets into the endzone they need to get to maul Charles the ball a lot more right now he's averaging seven yards of carry all right we've got a lot more to talk about including spinning it ahead and talk about the second happened what needs to be done at the half we're all knotted at 14 back with more here a as we'll continue on Thursday Night Football [Music] his rise to stardom inspired a new generation to follow their NFL dreams football light Christian Okoye tomorrow at 9 p.m. Eastern only on NFL Network here at the half worm all nodded in there you take a look at then they talk about the Nigerian nightmare Toni certainly Nolan he was a beast of runningback law one of the best running backs ever you know I just pulled for this second half of this game I just think right now for paper Denver Broncos late Peyton Manning in the shotgun you can still run the ball from there you can tell he looks so much more comfortable to me that's big thing for kids see chase you just can't turn a football don't get away from the run in the fall back to Jamal Charles throw the ball the last two slaps in the SEC went under 70 but Canada City need to find a way to get plc the ball he is the story of the match oh and anybody he's a nightmare rainy linebacker our safety and Jeremy Maclin you gotta find a way to get him going some type of way I like what Alex Smith is doing yeah that was a bad man one of the best corners in the game I keep the lead Bob you can't do that pick and choose the corners you want to go in and he's not the one to play with for me you know you talk about hating his bad paint be good Haden was bad in that first quarter because he was getting a lot of pressure brought by just Houston top ball deep in that second quarter the question wasn't coming as hard I know pain was getting the ball out of his hands but they need to get back to stopping this quick throws make me throw the ball deep and what they did the no huddle does do is it slows down here pass Lux it helps the offensive line Sophie with your toes I guess you don't even know that because that slows down with a fix for getting tired and a kitchen chance - right hand throw the ball or the first and second down so to me the answers gonna be shot gonna be liquor close and run your offense we're gains more comfortable it helps your offensive line of there like way as coach Cowher is articulating it to mask the problems that continues on that offensive line let's see what happens in the second half we'll be back Jim Nantz and Phil Simms Tracy Wolfson after this thank you for watching the Lexus halftime report [Music] just keep matriculating the bond down to feel boys the legend Hank Stram leading the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl for Glen a Dawson the oldest paper the Chiefs beat the Vikings down New Orleans Tulane stadium to take Super Bowl or they honored not only that team but the Super Bowl one Chiefs addition there's at moto lack on the Left Lenny Dawson [Music] and there is Phyllis Stram Widow the hall of famer the coach Hank Stram of course Lamar Hunt the founder of this franchise coined the name Super Bowl and like the idea of Roman numerals to enumerate centuries and world wars tied to the game and now it's time for who are you loving it is headed by McDonald's Payton - Emmanuel Sanders for the first touchdown of the season for the Broncos and suddenly a game changer play a game changer Niall Davis had a couple of kick returns and touchdowns including 108 Kirk returned against the Broncos here two years ago will not have a chance to run this one out but man this turnaround in the late first half how did it happen well you know you got to look at the decision by Andy Reed to throw the football instead of getting down to the two-minute warning and really taking the clock away from the Denver Broncos so a great play by a key to leave but also what I'm looking forward to the second half we know Denver has figured it out on the offensive side just keep giving it to their quarterback and see if he can get it done and you look at Kansas City what are they gonna do really nothing except that one run by Jamal Charles worked in the first half form five maybe six and let's go down the Tracy thanks a lot guys a questionable call from each coach on each side line you mentioned play calling down the stretch to the two-minute warning I asked them to read about it and he said they were just bad calls he regrets the decision and he takes the blame as for the fourth down call from Gary Kubiak he said they just needed some darn yards he said it's all about the mindset of the team he likes where his team is out likes what he saw in the locker room from them buddy they need to protect feet Manning better and he wants to run the ball more guys he's got to be thrilled way his team got back into it second catch of the night for Kelsey and it's going to be mark right at the 30 that's good for a first which stood out as far as statistically in the first half Phil well I just think fight the fact that the Denver Broncos when Peyton Manning started getting to the shotgun and throwing the football was the big turnaround and for the Kansas City Chiefs two catches by the wide receivers for 19 yards Alex Smith hasn't been able to move around the screen game is not working Gavin Travis tonight got first down negative play and picked up a yard maybe why they're not doing it Jim you know we were at practice not always think about this on Tuesday I saw a lot of screens but when you get in the game you see how fast they are on defense how aggressive they are the screens become dangerous because it takes a little while to set them up sometimes and they can't hold out DeMarcus Ware and Bob Miller long enough in that first after three giveaways by Kansas City that's the first time under Andy Reid the changes have trended that are three times on the first half second of nine we'll be given before word progress it's going to be close to the first Chris Harris right there on top of him is and we talked about these two corners Chris Harris heats it to the inside outside technique and then drives on the football make to the tough temps and Jeremy Maclin his third catch and it is good for a first down say the Chiefs pick up a couple of horse doubts on this opening to vote by David Bruton talk about what you want to do on offense this is what you have to do is keep giving the football to Jamaal Charles once the cut it back then makes a good decision to take it outside nice block by Travis Kelce too tight in to allow their running back to get out there the playmakers you talked about at the beginning of the night fill they've all touched it here on this Drive Macklin Charles and Kelsey if there's a weakness of its Denver defense maybe a little smaller bit can you wear them down with the runner to give you four back more time to throw second one and that's Macklin near the 20 right in front of Chris Harris jr. 29-yard pass play Smith to Macklin yeah what happens is Chris Harris thinks it's going to be somebody inside at safety I'm watching the coverage and it wasn't there TJ Ward was up near the line of scrimmage or closer trying to cover a tight in so it allows Macklin open downfield first deep throat we've really seen today from the Chiefs it's Davis isn't and he's got a guard maybe two before he's pushed back by DeMarcus Ware so down the field throws that's not a common occurrence in Kansas City Phil we looked at this graphic I had to look at it about five times ago to wait are you talking about the whole season 18 attempts over 21 yards for the whole year that was it but he's just completed one that was officially now 30 yards right - Macklin the set up up now defendant for territory on this opening series get into the hands of Kelsey a third down on the way when you go back to then the number of throws down the field Jim it just tells you map no offense we haven't seen it tonight as much as they did last week of course against the Houston Texans a lot of deceptions a lot of short rows being take the pressure off your mom Lynch of lineman with those quick throws with screens and drawls hard to do some of those things against an aggressive fast defense like I'm saying against the Denver Broncos have Charles Schumann returns to the lineup a third down snack [Applause] [Music] tackle by Harris he doesn't make that play he doesn't ride it with Charles who knows he's been cutting back and looking for some open lanes blitz inside really good job Jamaal Charles his first initial reaction is I'm gonna outrun him and then he realizes Darian Stewart great job of getting outside making him cut back plays tackle by Harris gonna be about aah let C be a 35-yard field goal attempt from Jairo Santos 25 of 30 last season and that kick is good for Kansas City back in the lead at 1714 good drive for the Chiefs to start this third quarter here results in three it's not too late to play nfl.com fantasy is fun it's free and it's easy sign up today nfl.com slash fantasy the broncos come in here having won twelve consecutive divisional road games that is tied with those 49er great teams of the ladies 12 in a row one for the record tonight 13 they'll be starting their first drive of the third quarter at the 20-yard line now three harley-davidson vehicle and powertrain operations here in Kansas City producing more than 400 motorcycles a day here as Anderson who's had a tough go of it after a good first one of the night at the loss of one Howard on the hit about this little hurry up offense you look at the numbers Peyton and he turned it around 13 and 19 18 yards from 70,000 second and 11 by Eric Berry was that a third one you know Peyton is just a quarterback in a player that when things go bad he just keeps going after and it just he's like a golfer he takes his driver out and hits a couple out of bounds it doesn't faze him he tees it up and keeps hitting that driver that's what he's done here tonight he pull up to it with some good throws being tough and just hitting the top one third of a short two [Applause] as his man as well his 70,000 I believe will be right on the number at Sanders that's against Jamel Fleming outside weights takes a little while but at manual Sanders he saw it last week missed the preseason so fast so fresh very dangerous at all times on the field second up with the read some of the caves just happen Houston unable to catch up with it well that was a good job knocking it down because they'll receive it was open so do you think when you see 17,000 can't even comprehend the consistent really is truly incredible you know nowadays were just gonna go see a quarterback so I'm going to deliver that even great quarterbacks can't imagine putting him up like that second of ten he hands it off it has a first down across the 48 gain of 11 running behind Kara that's the center now help out that number 61 gets outside pools around and leads the block they think second-year sinner they think a lot of me and how about this hurry up offense this attire out of defensive runs fast [Applause] he backed up one now on Bailey's dodge manga and a reminder week two of the NFL season did you Sunday on CBS and Fox check your local listings for the game in your area this is an extraordinarily that actually lost three and if the turns money held it to the lineup picked up by Peters but he was out of bounds juggling attempt by thomas and eric berry kind of charted loose from Demaryius if there's a safety pack there happy happy helping heaters and boy excellent job watch the air fairy reading the quarterback and getting over there to make you hit that Peters came pretty close second foot was in the air Demaryius three catches for 35 dipper has three third down conversions tonight all of them have gone to Emanuel Sanders and they have taken another early timeout [Applause] [Music] we were talking to leading into this game about this was gonna have a different look this offense and what we saw against Baltimore last Sunday but it's got it right back to what we saw it looks like what we saw really all last year with paint Manning and what he did with Adam GaSe is the offensive coordinator look it's a big turnaround for Gary Kubiak so coming here and changed the culture completely from what they've had so much success with over the years and look it says some about Gary Kubiak he realized this is the best thing to do to give them the greatest chance to win this game play puts it in paint in his hands so again it's third and 13 every time they've been converted tonight on third down it's gone to number 10 by Thomas but he's three or four yards short of the first needed 13 picked up nine now Peyton Manning under pressure Tomba Holly gets around the edge makes a really good throw but the one thing you notice and I've built us tonight the defensive backs are staying off the wide receivers trying to read Peyton Manning so when he throws it they can make that break and make the play that time it was close on the outside well they sacked him twice in the first quarter but they have him since and it brings Britton Colquitt back out with brothers tonight really strong performers promises appear attached at the eight first time brothers have punted in the NFL the same time okay for the Colquitt they've been that up a long time eleven and seven years where's their father Craig was on to Super Bowl champion teams at Pittsburgh and our Uncle Jimmy was in the league they they know how to produce punters like the Sims and the Mannings on the produced quarterback Charles skips out for about three Britton and Dustin they see each other twice a year in the league Aaron sit up in the stands and they got the jerseys cut in half pretty neat passed down the talent to the kids and liked it they're both great at it no question Tennessee Volunteers before which is Alex Smith now the from 62 yards in a case Drive I've had the sixty-two out of his big playmakers disclose that into the ground as Vaughn Miller was giving chase let's go miked up here with DeMarcus Ware [Music] [Applause] I'm sorry we talked about it earlier this three-four defense it fits DeMarcus Ware von Miller it just acting the pass rushers almost every single pay [Applause] five-yard Markoff coming up against Kansas City well start number 87 offense five-yard penalty still far down and Celts see Saturday is the best game for the best conference the Home Depot SEC on CBS unleashing Jeremy Johnson of the Tigers against Brandon Harris of the Bayou Bengals it all starts with avid football today Saturday on CBS Sports the third false start of the night as Avant comes to the sidelines third one on the chiefs and Broncos defense on third down subscribers this season I got where they look at the left side and that will bring up a pond you know the difference Wade Phillips knows he has a terrific defense of course so it's third and long it's not always sit back and let him throw that short pass and pick up eight or ten he had everybody up there challenged on man-to-man and tight and everything I throw the way it was because it was a scream everybody was being careful not to get picked so an aggressive talented defense called well the up pack and Sanders back deep but Dustin Byfuglien out of the way side bounce goes out near the 42 that's a 43-yard punt [Music] again tonight the emmy-nominated series undrafted returns that football town the story of barrel Alaska the love of the game 300 miles above the Arctic Circle tonight after the post game only on NFL Network five minutes to go third quarter teams five field goal and extra forty-fifth catch of the night for Thomas this one for 18 yeah they made it easy they came up play tight coverage and right away peyton manning sees it and throws a little back shoulder to stop Demaryius Thomas so he can come back to make the catch against Fleming pretty quickly back to the line Norman the running back on Hillman J Howard Joe J Howard we call his name many times yes tough inside great run stopper that's what's changed his teach run defense but again we talked about in the little Jinzo but this help out the difference in the offense under the sinner we're going to run the ball and roll play action well when it's not working you got something else to go to this once again T's pretty good stuff yeah they've adjusted and is something that's working second of time the gains Norwood about four and as you watched this pace the other thing that comes to mind Justin Houston arguably one the top two or three pass rushers to the NFL never comes out of the game number 15 so how many times can you line up and just try to beat an offensive tackle in a situation like this I think he gets tough once the game goes along they got a sack in the first quarter bourbon sex [Applause] and complete intended for Norwood great changeup by the defense they came up there they act like to go to blitz they drop back in the zone they read the quarterback and really know where to go for Peyton Manning they're gonna go for the long field goal here coming up November last week Brandon McManus drop the 57 and a 56 yard field goal on the Ravens in the first quarter this is going to be 54 yards McManus from downtown today he is the chairman of the 50 yard field goal in his league and a game is tied at 17 [Music] until is barbecue looks pretty tasty right now voted best barbecue and KC by Zagat every year since 2004 chopped up this weapon and Brandon McManus we heard it last year you kind of went through the story they released him body back put him on practice squad because they just saw the talent how far he could kick the football with such ease and we've seen that in the first two game look at this he's made three out of three from 50 remember the shortest of those three was just one that he made just a moment ago 54 yards with the 56 and 57 the rest of the whole Liddy week one was 3 out of 6 from 50-plus there's not the touch back on this occasion and it's Nile Davis well covered live a Bronco special teams in Juwan Thompson who forced the fumble in that first half makes the tackle well Jim in the first half Alex Smith had inside pressure and of course in balm Miller from the outside made it tough for him to find or even get time to throw it down the field but look at this to that first drive a lot of space to step into the throws and gets it deep down the field to Jeremy Maclin so defenses one-seater out a little gives your quarterback a little more time and you can hold on to it and try to get it down the field which they did on an opening drive [Applause] three whites get down Thomas did not make a very good effort to try to get both feet down we've got a cheap player that's down on the field well hold on a minute maybe did a casual he bought it but maybe knew what he was doing all the time they did call it incomplete on the field Donald Stevenson is the injured chief player back near the 10-yard line and we got hit by his own teammate you know I hit my jaw read about this is this a catch one [Music] as close when you think he has possession of the football right foot was down the question is was the left town what's the write down before he got possession I think so where's the injured player is giving the chief replay crew upstairs a a pretty good opportunity to look at this and signal down to the sideline with a lot they might want to challenge this that's a good sign that Stevenson's walking off get out from this side you know it's really close I think it's worth the challenge it's a nine-yard play yeah if it's rule to catch your backed up on your own 16 17 yard line be a tremendous Drive starter when you begin a series as the Chiefs did inside the 20 but they're not going to challenge it help Andy Reed I'm watching him he's looking up at the big scoreboard I'm sure he's talking to somebody upstairs he didn't pull it Eric Dishman comes in toss without for Eric Fisher of course the highly drafted tackle was a late scratch as a starter last week he's been battling a high ankle sprain there's all kinds of talk Monday enthused about he knows a Fisher that was he avoiding the opportunity to go against Houston and JJ Watt and you know Andy really quickly swells that whole story you know listen kid every week you come down here in Seattle or somebody at that going against you if you're tackled the NFL so when I start as well on this occasion six by the shoestrings by where welcome to a yard really good job by alex smith moving in the pocket but watch down the field as he goes to throw he's going to let the football go to Travis Kelce and there's a he gets tangled tangled up a TJ Ward and no flag was thrown and look at the hustle by DeMarcus Ware says he watches Von Miller and practice that inspires him because he wants to be as good as well another bring it out to straight my Sanders bobbled it for a moment 53-yard boot got a flag back near the line of scrimmage during the kick holding number 51 receiving team 10 yard penalty from the end of the kick fresh time Denver just being the second game for Gary Kubiak being reunited with John Elway they came out of the same draft Elway from Stanford Kubiak remand him away and his Hall of Fame career 130 starts coops got some starts himself and then after he gave up the roll was the backup quarterback he went and the coaching was the coordinator talking into the helmet on those two Super Bowl championship teams to his old camp roommate and buddy John Elway and now the reunited put the fan back together put him back together John Elway not happy with the way things ended last year he wanted to change the thought process and everything they do the way they I guess just to make them more physical and tough on first down from the gun open the tackle by hundreds Daniels it's a six yard game I think what they're finding out though Jim it's not that easy to turn those things around either these first two games running the football they worked on it all offseason you know the mentality we're going to do that really hasn't come through for them so far here early in the season [Applause] tripped up pretty no game Anderson now 11 carries 27 yards this is after a 12 429 performance last Sunday but at the end of last season he's one of the best backs of the league I think they're going to be whatever happens in the game I know they're going to be very disappointed in their running offense because I think they came in here tonight I know they did thinking we can beat this defensive one by just laying right now and 168 on this field last November [Applause] perfectly timed to Sanders again third down those two they're always looking a manuals way and it got the first beautiful throw to the outside safe paint man he looks out there he sees it Jamel Fleming is playing inside so they call the route that goes outside seventh catch for Sanders for 68 yards and a touchdown take it under center here with a second to go in the quarter move on to the fourth with a tie game we'll return to Kansas City after this message and a word from your local station you're watching Thursday Night Football we have been tied after every quarter Jim Nantz Ville Sims and Tracy Wolfson in Kansas City for this AFC West rivalry game on first down that pass dangerously thrown in the direction of Thomas and that was Peters making a play on the ball what a play by Marcus Peters that's one thing I've noticed here we saw it late last year Jim when you talk about the Broncos and Peyton Manning what has happened to some of their passes this is one big reason why the numbers have gone down all the screens and the pick plays that they've run are not working like they did early last year [Applause] Demaryius and just out of reach seen a lot of those this year the coverage was tight had to be a perfect road it's just about one yard too far I'm gonna go back to the Sanders name on third down he's has conversions on four occasions tonight 5:00 last Sunday that is nine third down conversions to Sanders in seven quarters he was second best in the league last year second to Antonio Brown [Applause] Daniel's trying to make the catch on his backhand Parker came over yeah this is a really good job by the defense faking the Blitz getting back there and Peyton Manning it's going to be a tight roll tries anticipated so much and he it's a little off target he was worried that the outside defender was going to look inside and maybe come back and break it up did the right thing you throw it safe not to turn it over Britton Colquitt to punt for the fifth time tonight [Applause] there's Thomas [Applause] it's exactly and we got a flag out Nelson was on the hit after 51 yard punt a lot of special teams flags tonight [Music] near the return holding number 51 receiving team 10-yard penalty from the spot of the foul he first down Kansas City timeout called on Frank Humboldt and they're gonna mark it back in Donald Stevenson is back in at left tackle as Kansas City starts my drive off the penalty at the 12 let's check in with Tracy well thanks a lot guys Donald Stevenson back out there he hobbled off the field earlier he went right to the training table and it looked as though the athletic trainers were trying to lock that ankle back into place he was in excruciating pain but once it was over they taped him up and he's back out there that's that quite a bit of tape on that left ankle Pappas Kelsey by the way has been quieted tonight two guards to this point second at four as the crews down this time on the far side it's Harrison doves a mountain 12 yard pickup first down Chiefs call him in a blitz good job by Alex Smith TJ Ward from the outside hey Chris Harris when you're a defensive back and your receivers inside you got to give him a little room which is what he did because you worry about crossing the field and getting picked off by fate I have one of your own guy three receivers on the field Nile Davis the running back and there is nothing there but a wall of broncos led by antonio smith sunday the NFL on CBS comes out with regional action some will see San Diego at Cincinnati both with opening wins late something get your game at that time Baltimore at Oakland Miami at Jacksonville and it all gets started the courts with the team that will take you to Super Bowl business from the studio JP Tony Bart coach and boomer on the NFL today plus you got that New England at Buffalo game for the CBS lineup this Sunday [Applause] is value but he's mind applied to the left there's another flag might have been a facemask on the second one they're fouls by both teens illegal contact number 30 defense illegal hands hands to the face number 79 offense most foul is all set we'll replay second down Gary Kubiak first game is a head coach in the NFL that Bing for the Texans he was matched up against Andy Reed and Philadelphia votes Kubiak first ever NFL experience on the road he was a ball boy for bumped Phillips teams when it's just a young kid growing up in Houston and he came up here with Bob in the Oilers to Arrowhead Stadium when he was just a teenager now Davis at running back second attack Davis hadn't even turned around yet [Applause] first game for folks to be at in his Houston ticker was down in Houston Donovan nab Bo ruined the debut on that day with three touchdown passes and the Eagles wanted Alex Smith here's this drive the one thing he's getting a little better pass protection able to lure at least look down the field nobody is not helping deep down to fit here make the truck they are old for five the Chiefs on third down tonight a go-to guy here maybe it's Kelsey these drivers got nowhere to go look at all the Broncos that busted across the line and Antonio Smith will get credit for that sack a loss of H you just said it everybody gets across the line that time it's a blitz Brandon Marshall inside and Alex Smith good athlete know where to find can't find the lane to get away from this pass rushing that's probably the thing that surprised me most about Kansas City's offense tonight that Alex Smith hasn't had the opportunity to move around and make those plays he's out of bounds at the 23 we're down to 11 36 to play in this one the game knotted at 17 Arrowhead was open all the way back in 1972 and underwent of nearly 400 million dollar renovation back in 2010 place is shaken now is work Lisa point in destroyed quarter panting down the field never giving up position there was Flemming let's check in mind up with Derek Johnson coming off for the killings injury Derek Johnson he was terrific last week against the Houston Texans hadn't been able to really get through the blocking lanes to sack Peyton Manning or get those tackles for losses like he did last week second and ten Hillman again another play made by J Howard [Applause] gained a tune [Music] place election for the Broncos really on pace pretty much that's what they did last week I will say this whatever they did since the first quarter Tim they found ways to stop the Blitz pick up the Blitz errs and they've given Peyton Manning more time to make clothes it was at this point of week ago or four days ago when the Broncos put together nearly an 11 minute Drive but now they face a third and long then it goes down it's you stood on his back [Applause] third sack of the night for the Chiefs two of them belonging to Justin Houston coming off the left side Justin Houston been playing to peyton manning's right a lot of the night every once awhile he switches over well just last season they had 22 sacks Houston finishing on the half sack off the all-time record that belong in the single-season to Michael Strahan [Applause] Kansas City team and it is down right there at the 41 buy fruit great starting field position for the Chiefs 41-yard punt and Houston ensures that the Chiefs offense gets the ball back [Music] laughs has found the end zone four touchdowns in this game and they all occurred in the second quarter well what an opportunity for this Chiefs offense let's go back and look at that Zak could be a turning point in the game as you look at em in Memphis here he is Justin Houston and Tomba Holley both on the same side you get your two best pass rushers on one side tough for Denver to deal with let's back to pick up extra yardage a gain of nine on his third reception good Drive starter for Kansas City the last three drives for the Chiefs 11 plays only one first down and three punts they've had a lot of different formations here tonight I thought they were going to get in the football to Travis Kelce and some of them but what they were doing they were using him as a decoy and going to the other side and it didn't work next upon Miller's and pick up the first [Applause] table on Miller it's a tough Alex get in the air getting the first down but it fooled von Miller and he was still able to recover and get outside and make Alex Smith cut back inside hey Alex miss says eh I don't want to have to do that on too many occasions have to be asked to try to beat Shaughnessy to the 17 his second catch of the night and it's a big one from the rookie out of Illinois State if you're gonna blitz important serve blitzing team Shaughnessy number 80 going to the right you've got to know that and you got to play it safe on the tackle TJ Ward was a little too aggressive got in front and not able to bring those shots he down picks up 32 catches one for 24 1 for 30 if they overplayed it trying to knock the football down thinking beyond town and I was not close a lot of work there for every yards before he's tackled by Trevathan [Music] secondary Kayvon Webster injured an ankle and he is questionable to return Charles with that last carry that to a hundred right on the nose second SME are not puts Josh Bush into the secondary get around Stewart Wellness Group boy and they caught the Broncos with their second team outside rusher Shane ray and Shaq Barrett what a job watch up top they stay outside Alex Smith the appealed back it still wasn't going to work the defense all over it following the ball nobody over committing and stopping a unique for a trick play by Andy Reid loss of three and a timeout called by Casey 6:42 go coming up again next Thursday the Redskins and the Giants will be coming your way on Thursday Night Football all here on CBS n NFL Network that's next Thursday Washington and the New York Giants what do you think it's gonna happen here third down play coming up for the Chiefs snapping it inside the red zone well everything we talked about before the game you know all the deception the Kansas City was going to have it just hasn't worked out here tonight even when they pull the defense the speed of the Broncos they can recover and make the place here on third down I look for him to call a very safe Lane if I was a Denver Broncos stay back make them throw it underneath tackle and wide make them kick a field or get a field goal attempt don't overplay and give Alex Smith the chance to throw this football in the end zone for a touchdown converted the entire game on third down [Applause] Oh [Applause] it's intercepted by Harris who breaks the tackle I only brought down by crubs alex smith was hit when he threw it well they played a safe defense you can do that when you have pass rushers and it results in a turnover Malik Jackson second red zone turnover by Kansas City tonight's eighth right though other all of last season the Chiefs gave it away only once in the red zone they've done it twice tonight it's Anderson where to go manga holds them to no gain well you know Jim when you got good pass rushers they're gonna fake the Blitz are gonna Trump back the whole time you can just say we don't have to gamble so many teams in the league you have to blitz to get pressure on the quarterback Malik Jackson that time they had so many guys on the defensive side that can win one-on-one matchups in the pass rushing situations and end time of us Malik Jackson and a big tackle by drugs because I had the look of a big return we did once Harris was able to break free compel seized attempt to tap him second in ten it is complete Daniel's is mild rivet to the ground after five third and five coming up Malka again on the tackle two straight [Music] this'll be an interesting call for the Kansas City Chiefs you're playing a field goal kicker they can kick it back field goal range em but you take a little chance here blitz paint Manning and try to get the defense off the field by catching them off guard with the Blitz a lot of defenders [Applause] they back off [Applause] complete two different attempts at the pic first it was Peters than it was apt to uh well it was a great fluff by the defense I thought they were going to blitz a drop back how about Peters a rookie outside he has been not afraid I'll say that he is challenging the receiver no matter who it is out there showing why it was the number one pick our first-round draft pick to the NFL boy as he made plays in his first two NFL games including an interception return for a touchdown in tonight's second quarter so with it inside of five minutes to go the Chiefs are going to get the football back after forcing another three an hour Lag is down near the line of scrimmage looks like it's going to be holding I thought holy number 30 or the ticking town that's a yard penalty will be enforced on the end of the kick first down Kansas City sometimes there's a good penalty oh yeah Bruton inside grabs Frank Zombo to keep him from blocking the kick Kansas City once again good field position I mean Jim they the Chiefs but they don't win this game and they've had so many chances tonight where they've had everything going their way field position momentum in a squadron make a big mistake call the wrong plane 7:22 with so the Broncos hanging in there and change no offense and find a way to score some points 36 yard punt plus the ten yard block mark off its wall all the way up to the 39 surrounded by three frock-coats this time including Sylvester Williams he's gonna freak outside he says oh I can do this because you know you trust that speed but Danny Trevathan right there snuck came out of nowhere and made him go back inside Broncos linebackers very fast hard to get outside against these the speed of the linebackers Chiefs about 25 yards away from Bing and field goal position second and nine can't see he has the guts badge or whatever the 27th almost looked like the same play that we saw doll Shaughnessy gives a blitz and Bruton number 30 panic goes for the plate goes underneath again when it's a blitz cover your guy protect against the run and twice the Broncos defense has not done they're 28 yards Smith to Kelsey was all set a very good throw by Alex Smith coverage was tight put it right onto money Kelsey sits out this blade let's go down the Tracy that's right and on that reception from Travis Kelce TJ Ward was not out there he's been in and out the last few drives he's dealing with cramps and keep in mind remember that he did not play a full game yet this season because he was suspended last week well when he's been in there he's been effective yes he is overall tonight he is covered Kelsey pretty well but you got to be looking at the clock give you the Kansas City Chiefs find a way to grind out a first down here you're in field goal range [Applause] he's got the first down as he sweated the Denver defense that he's putting a big tonight hailing from the same hometown as Wade Phillips the coordinators trying to stop them Port Arthur Texas just a little trapped inside what a nice job Finn Grubbs gets a block to the right side and do bar Nate our tip comes across kicks it out man he just hops or look at Bend rubs just drive so bad Sylvester Williams no-kill gold back away and give Jamaal Charles big space to run in first and goal to go who's got 122 on the night shift off a tackle the line of scrimmage big thing is here gary kubiak looking at the clock has two timeouts left in a two-minute warning well the Broncos elect to take a timeout here on the north side of the 2-minute mark good timeout 32 to 32 so that was a good time out to save it put it in the hands every quarterback let him deal with the clock and not let Kansas City take it down coming up after the game it's the Mazda postgame show interviews and analysis of tonight's game this marks the fourth red zone visit of the evening by Kansas City so far in the first three trips three points and two giveaways so the Broncos down to one timeout well a couple ways to play this I would think gary kubiak if they run the football is going to call a timeout immediately that would be the last time out then the two-minute warning never get paid Manning if you hold him toe field goal enough time to drive his team in field goal position [Applause] touchdown Allen Smith almost falls down dangerous handoff but we'll look at this side DeMarcus Ware up the field everybody else goes inside so there is nobody there to block he got tripped up trying to come back out of Center but it's an eight-yard untouched touchdown scamper by Nile Davis no mistake in the red zone on this occasion on red Thursday in Kansas City [Applause] extra point again this year from 33 yards out go over the top he used one of the players I think he used and it got a flag to that player and jump he launched himself and that's not legal there's a flag on the field for it but they caught the Broncos in a blitz on now Davis's touchdown run let's go to my condo 50 feet number 30 Denver that 15 yard penalty will be enforced for the kickoff let's bring in my carry and might take us through this well your watch on the punt the number 30 tries to jump over but lands on players that's a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct you know I actually didn't launch itself off anyone he just actually leap right over the snapper you tried to go over but he got his leg caught on top of the fountain and that rule is being really emphasized now to try to cut down on injuries that's one of those safety rules and one that very good forms of careers of the player that means the Chiefs will be kicking off from the 50 they mark off the 15 yards I always think well first off want to drive by the Chiefs to get the touchdown they beat the Blitz twice once with the pass once in a run I don't think ticket to get them inside to 20 but most coaches say to heck with it take it right out of the end zone make them start for this one [Music] Santos puppet fancy with his Kansas City happy to have this drive for Denver begin at the 20 we'll see what happens what's 94 DeMarcus where it goes to the outside look at the blocks down inside that's rubs against Darian Stewart a safety seals it there's nobody first Stevenson to even block Peyton Manning plenty of time two minute warning one timeout but in this situation hundreds of times in his career [Applause] Thomas picks up 22 crosses underneath everybody's chasing two underneath and that leaves a big boy behind the linebackers and Peyton Manning throws it in there perfectly that is the longest play of the first two games of the season for ten for 22 yards manage throw this time out of reach at the two-minute warning that was intended for Daniel's Broncos will have one timeout to operate with for these last two minutes needing the tribe down by the end zone to put the phht [Music] we're back with two minutes remaining if I was Kansas City on the defensive side I would not blitz I would play safe making throw it short and flip the pressure on your pass rushers to find a way to get to peyton manning second and ten Manning wanna catch it's Thomas is pretty tight coverage but the pass was perfect Fleming on the coverage Thomas grabs it well you know listen you got one two biggest stronger receivers in the NFL throws it behind him good throw go up and snaps at football out of the air Knights drove by Peyton Manning now at the Chiefs 42 [Applause] very little wrapped up by Darren Johnson that's exactly what you wanted to do stay back make him throw up they collapsed the pocket a little bit and dear Johnson comes up and makes the tackle don't let them get the extra yards after the catch and you don't take your last remaining time out here Rocko second and eight [Applause] is it non-tech no play now here comes the flag [Applause] she was looking for Sanders [Applause] Sanders was not looking for the football did look like there was contact though there is no file for pass interference [Applause] by caring what was it uncatchable because they threw the flag I thought on Peters it's a tight one but I think that's one of those that you wanna reach a flag down he had contact the ball was catchable in my I think you're right sure looked like it third and eight [Applause] by the Broncos Thomas who out battles a rookie for the football he out positioning he turned just like you you bucks out a rebound during a basketball game and Peters is just not big enough to get around to Marius Thomas to knock it down Thomas now eight catches a hundred for 16 yards [Applause] of Sanders incomplete what keeps his drive going once to Marius Thomas oh my gosh he's got him box out the whole way you can see Marcus Peters saw the football but he couldn't find a way to get around and knock it down the Marius has 54 yards on this Drive alone and again over a hundred for the night [Applause] second and 10 with 53 seconds remaining pressure on and out of reach for Jordan Norwood Abdullah the safety comes on the Blitz off the slot they see it put the knee let the other defender Abdullah come free that was full of Gaines on the slide 5-yard penalty from the previous spot automatic first down there was a flag for holding on the far side defensive holding call on Flemming instead of the thing third and ten the Broncos have a new set of downs at the 19 [Music] top of the screen good call [Applause] is that pass the need looked like of cold well now he had what he wanted he had a corner outside with Caldwell coming inside but he needed just a little bit more on the football to get it there top of your screen number 12 Houston got a hit on Manning good recovery by Fleming to 45 seconds [Applause] poor on the down clock [Applause] in Norwood who had a play on that football one of their favorite plays they brought a pic on the outside and it's just slightly overthrown by Peyton Manning the outside receiver came inside they calls the little traffic gym oh man look how close it was on pylon camera [Applause] again the mazda postgame show after the game with all the interviews and analysis of this opening Thursday night thriller on CBS NFL Network Peters the rookie is on Thomas on the near side and we've got a timeout call by Kansas City leaving the Chiefs with one that last play we saw where he just missed it that was a play to him one of their specialties over the years he has hit that so many times for a touchdown and even though the Chiefs had off coverage they still got Norwood in a position where they could have a perfect throw would have been a touchdown it's a good timeout by the Chiefs let the defense rests let those pass rushers get ready to put pressure one more time look how close that is should that have been caught you know the old theory Oh his hands touch that you catch it no I think it was just out of his reach it had been a spectacular catch if he made it Norwood only 5 11 here we go with third down coming up [Applause] man across the Middle East and Emmanuel Sanders then of course the p80 is no longer automatic but both try it from 33 yards to tie the game almost the same concept that they had a couple plays before they caught him in a defense the corners playing outside Fleming in top of your screen a little stutter post that's what it was before we saw a little out moving inside but this time that little stutter made Fleming hesitate and a perfect robot paint man beautiful tight spiral by Manning point after dead center and the game is tied and guess what it was Manning to Sanders on third down again what a drive what some really cut timely throws but this reminds me of the Broncos of last year where they have all these plays that they run at you and you just can't keep up with them they pick in you they're doing this the screens and that little stutter on the outside that double move very clever and extremely well done by Sanders the Broncos drive 80 yards since in place in a minute 51 seconds and for the second time tonight it's Manning to a manual on a third down play to the end zone [Music] and now the cheats with 36 seconds to go in regulation have one timeout remaining tell you what can happen you look at this team the Broncos isn't gold the football you got Demaryius Thomas with Emmanuel Sanders out there you can't double them both and then there folks number one receivers yum you know whatever you want to say the guide that football could where you want to throw them as much as you can most teams just have one this Bronco team that - big-time number one receiver and they became just last season v tandem in NFL history to have both white outs over a hundred receptions in a season so when this is over no matter what happens now the Denver Broncos as they go home and they rethink what they're gonna be in what they're gonna do what would be your answer Jim mance I think it goes back to looking a lot like what they did last year they wear you out some teams weighing you down by running the football he just keeps throwing it there was no pass rush really on him that whole Drive he got time to see it and they set you up with all these moves every the variety of plays and it really came through for me over here in Kansas City will will do here with the timeout starting at the 20 I just got a feeling they're gonna be a little more careful and they word that drive before the half what do you think I mean that's what they're gonna do I don't know if you take a knee maybe you get the shotgun you're running a draw you hope somebody Jamal Charles can bring the run and get you some yards where you could take a couple throws but you got to be extremely careful first we're good looks like the deal all right for unbelievable touchdown a flag is out at the line of scrimmage Darian Stewart knocked it out of Charles hands there wasn't a flag on the play no file oh my goodness sailing the fumble recovered by Brenda touchdown the man who saved the game last Sunday Stuart the former Ravens knocked it loose [Applause] Broncos scooped it up and took it to the house no questions out Brandon Marsh is Lawrence Becker it was Marshall there was Stewart ooh made the contact but it's Marshall who reaches around and just pops it out Charles second fumble loss tonight this will be a training reel for all teams you know instead of just you say well let's just run it in case of whatever the chances of something happening there is so slim but that's what can happen to you instead of just kneeling on the football the training reel and a train wreck is what we've just watched yeah you're right never well this is a great job hustling defense watch Brandon Marshall reaches in there you know the NFL players are so unbelievable now everybody knows how to reach him punch the football knock it out and want to change how about going back to what it was 14 enough and the look on Peyton Manning's face - what we see now and this whole Broncos team everything's completely different recovery touchdown plays in situations easy for us to say that are going to be second-guessed so much about what Andy read at the end of the first half and here at the second half [Music] tibalt Charles remember he fumbled in the first quarter down deep with the Chiefs threatening to go in and what very likely this will be the difference in this game [Music] yeah it's tough at least a hold on to the helmet [Music] I'll tell you what we saw too though this missile maker - first off it's gonna be a devastating defeat for the Kings is he on that this this is uh you know you think about early season games that you have a hard time okay I mean like the Giants yes and now this one for the Chiefs you've got a 14-point lead at home you got the Broncos on the ropes you got fading confidence level on that entire Bronco offense well the kind of shows you what's we knew in the Broncos they're a dangerous team on both sides the ball we really thought their defense I think it's going to be spectacular this year but they fight and we kind of talked about Payton he just keeps coming at you he keeps coming he's not afraid that things went bad I'll never forget that kids he was playing a Monday night game in Denver in San Diego he threw five interceptions six four tonight in he just kept on that football trying to win the game remember the Broncos just last Sunday one on a defensive touchdown by a key to lead and now they are 27 seconds away from a defensive touchdown winning it again for him this time Bradley Roby number 29 taking it 29 yards on the return finally think you're in position to maybe overtake this Broncos team that's what you they just been so overpowering the last couple years [Applause] when the Chiefs build off a miracle expect these plus the 30 and they're gonna have to take it here Peyton Manning 26 of 45 256 yards three touchdowns and one interception but it's three touchdowns after he threw the pay and he looked as the game went on yes he got strong he definitely got better he got its rhythm he got his legs under a member and like I said they don't wear you down with the run in the past they have it they do it with the pass and this was some statement gained by paint man and give him a lot of credit and he hung in there it looked like it was just going to be a horrible night I actually sit here thinking this is gonna just explode they could have been against the Denver Broncos and they hung in there he made some really big flows on that first touchdown down picked up the block they may not even have a chance to reset Malik Jackson back there wait Philips what a difference he's made his defense winning it the last two weeks this game is over this crowd cannot believe it nor can we [Music] [Applause] some gut check by the brothels and they come through two touchdowns in a nine second span look at over the edges get one more clean hit on faith Manning tonight yeah that's gotta be I mean we met Peyton last night we talked I'm not gonna say I saw him down in his face nothing like that but he even thought that we're gonna come out here control the ball from it and look what it turns into a man that's got to be some confidence build out even for Peyton Manning after all his great success in the NFL and they've got the record now for 13 consecutive road wins inside the division bettering the FIFA today first belong to the 49ers back 87 through 90 that went Minh from walleston secrets teams Gary Kubiak now to and on as the head coach no one saw this finish coming [Music] bait gums over and high-fives the defensive coordinator pretty remarkable and Peyton Manning is far from finished what we start the game now that there are questions out there with the new body else it's into the old plant I'm not I'm really those last year when Tom Brady's here two losses well maybe this ain't being that this one battle doing a few trips I always got back to that second game that Payton played as a Bronco at Atlanta at three first half pics and people are starting to whisper the same things they were these last couple of weeks but the legend of Manning is living on let's go down the Tracy well thanks a lot to him I think the look on your face as you watch over here says it all tell us what's going through your mind after what took place tonight I'm not sure I've ever been in one quite like that and I'm curious if it'll answer Sims and see more like that either that was uh that was a new one for me and it's tough on either good I think their defense is so much better than last year they're so stout against the run that just make it hard all night and so we just kept plugging we just kept plugging and I've got a couple at the end of the first half and then the third quarter kind of just you know struggled and got one field goal but obviously when we had to have it and our defense kept us in it you know with some turnovers and you know holding us some field goals and that last drive was really good really proud of our young offensive line no lowboys issues no communication issues and DT made a couple of awesome plays and then finally got a manual in the end zone and you mentioned your defense for the second straight game being able to seal the victory what can you say about their performance I mean just the superlatives just go on and on other playing great team defense you know everybody's kind of doing their part right there getting sacks we're getting tip balls or getting pressure on the quarterback leading to bad throws and that's the sign of a good defense and offense ly we're just going to keep plugging keep sawing wood and obviously that last Drive you know two weeks in a row we've had two final drives that sure have kind of put a stamp on the whole game and I think we can build off of that thank you thanks Tracy I've watched paid man he's won a lot of games I think that's the happiest I've ever played him after a game in his career that was something special to what he hasn't smiled like that in a football atmosphere since last mid-november what a game and what a victory by the Broncos off the five takeaways and the defensive winner coming up next to mock the postgame show for Phil Tracy Mike Carey all the crew Jim man saying so long from Kansas City you've been watching Thursday Night Football CBS home of Super Bowl 50
