on the road to the Final Four we join you from Lexington the number one team in the country Kentucky trying to carve out a piece of history a chance to wrap up an undefeated season as they take on the Florida Gators hi everybody hi Andy go along with Doug Gottlieb the rest of our CBS crew March Madness officially getting underway a little more than a week from now still some unfinished business here for Kentucky the pursuit of perfection Doug at this memorable run for John Calipari in company and I don't think you can understand it ending against Florida team that beat them three times last year that was also undefeated in Sec play on their own run to the Final Four I think there's some special significance there and ending your regular season undefeated against last year's champion the burning question has been how do you beat Kentucky nobody has figured it out our AT&T fast analysis lorna gave him a heck of a game down the swamp and they get so by using their powerful with Dorian finney-smith as a screener and then a score they want a huge Kentucky's big men and make them guard away from the basket I think that's the one weakness that sleep again two three take a look at the starting lineups for Florida Hill Carter chiozza finney-smith and Horford 13 different starting lineup for Florida this season kentucky its senior day so Sam Malone Brian long Tod Lanter Andrew Harrison and karl-anthony towns are the starters for Kentucky three walk-on Billy Donovan a former assistant coach with Kentucky when he started his coaching career under Rick Pitino now over 500 wins as a head coach and John Calipari makes the decision to go with the three walk-ons it was a team decision and a chance to add another chapter to what has already been a Hall of Fame career in fact he has a chance to make the Hall of Fame this season he's one of the finalists for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Kentucky controls a tip we're underway at Rupp this is not a lineup who you you're used to seeing with Kentucky you may not see it for long but taking a little feather off the cap of Wayne tinkle from Morgan State and started five walk-ons in their loss to organ their last home game you see talented jumper off the rim and it's rebounded by Hill for Florida foul is given right away and here come two substitutions the walk-ons get there a moment in the spotlight and now the usual starters check in for Kentucky senior day which has become such a huge tradition throughout college basketball at Kentucky it's a little different because you don't often see the players that our impact players actually get to their senior year [Applause] as a guy who lived with a couple walk-ons at Oklahoma State okay those guys have to be at every practice we got to keep their grades up go through everything the scholarship players those who only pay for school they deserve a moment Jenny Smith off the tribe on a kick Florida has one sooner OA situation in over Texas A&M the other night Carter trying to go with a left hand and it's rebounded by Andrew Harrison for Kentucky half board said here for the Wildcats 49 and one all-time record is the number one ranked team in the country here at Rupp Harrison playing at a high level Andrew Harrison John Calipari told us the jump that he's made from year 1 and year 2 has been substantial and just the jump he's mainly last couple weeks playing far and away the best basketball he's career [Applause] the perimeter Michael Frazier ii is available to flurries missed the last seven games the team's leading scorer suffered a hiatus where in the last time these two teams met jump shot doesn't go for finney-smith it's rebounded by towns Kentucky got tested against Georgia on Tuesday night a 72-64 victory for the Wildcats Patterson wanted up Aaron Harrison is short rebounded by cauley-stein turns inside and scores plus the foul Willie cauley-stein with a chance that a three-point play this is the problem for Florida they want to play small and play Dorian finney-smith at the powerful position but just such a size disadvantage on the offensive rebound from Willie cauley-stein Florida Trail Texas A&M extend to nothing out of the gate on Thursday night rally at 14 on 1 themselves in that second half to pull away a bit Texas A&M made an interesting it's five nothing Kentucky here Carter working against trey lyles the talented freshman Florida has a tough time story that's been an issue throughout the seasons small against big [Music] next up with town six to shoot the drive-by Hill left-hand no tippmann Horford that won't go we got knocked around and controlled by cauley-stein Harrison turns it over a travel on Aaron Harrison the sophomore from Richmond Texas well this is why it's so hard to score against Kentucky that's Willie cauley-stein 6 foot 11 defending a point guard you know there's a lot of players but they can guard any position on the floor Willie cauley-stein really depend every position on the floor incredible lateral athleticism as well as obviously a great job that is truly to be very effective efficient rolls on the offensive side which is added to his importance to this Kentucky squad floridays bowl of four from the field to open up Carter stutter step 15 to shoot the hill let's do it open drives in follow Horford it goes Johnna for 30 let's see occasionally Kentucky will get confused in terms of their pick-and-roll coverage it happened several times against Georgia Georgia got some free runs to the basket made it in that play John Horford the transfer for Michigan got the rebound took his time included in by cauley-stein asking for it mid-range jumper doesn't go good box out there by a horse bird and they trigger the offense through chiozza more fruits a number of threes this season shooting 25% finney-smith no fear can't finish Harrison the leak out - on three Harrison off-balance no tip in doesn't go for Lyles and the rebound cleared by Horford Carter on the bounce finney-smith rolling to the remedy gets the bounce off the main basket blocking foul he's going to the free-throw line so it'll be Aaron Harrison shooting a pair 78% on the season his last team to go undefeated and win the NCAA title duck of course that 1976 Indiana that's what Kentucky is today and what this is the third least experienced team in the country coming into the season but having your starting back word back from last year having Andrew and Aaron Harrison who grew up in front of ink that is part and parcel to the success throughout the entire life of the seasons of Kentucky Marcus Lee checks in it replaces Willie cauley-stein for Kentucky and Florida makes him change as Warford since Chris Walker is in and Jakob hurts in the lineups for the Gators early in the season was team blue team white which team were you on they're all Kentucky fans Tyler Ulis in Devin Booker in along with dakari Johnson we talked to Calipari about it he said coaching staff realized during as a hamish trip that that was what they needed to do that was the plan but I just confirmed their thoughts that was the way it was gonna have to go very competitive in practice and the guys really bought into it by Andrew give away from Florida Harrison Drive Kurtz the hell that means Lee was free but how about Kentucky will hold on to it we'll get our first stop Beshear Kentucky at 30 and mo John Calipari and the Wildcats trying to wrap things up with perfection a tournament by John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats that's one thing to do it in a mid-major conference it's a completely other thing to do it when you're returning a a roster full of McDonald's all-american you know what to the fatehpur and it sound like they've ducked people in their schedule Texas Carolina Kansas and of course the bumping of UCLA which they run to 7.6% very much becoming the goal to make history foul it's called inside will go to the free-throw line change for Florida as Michael Frazier the second has checked in missed the last seven games without a high ankle sprain and of course Marcus Lee a kid who had to play late last season in the NCAA tournament when Willie cauley-stein got hurt played so well in that game against Michigan if you go back to the first half against Georgia the other night the indycar Johnson that's a big reason they were still in the game the rest the team was kind of in a fog at steadman Coliseum season-ending ankle entry for cauley-stein will see Murphy check in Dorian finney-smith back on the floor for Florida 6-4 lead for Kentucky Lee shooted at 33% of the frequent one sophomore from Antioch California gives Kentucky a three-point lead an eye on Frazier see how he's moving serious injuries haven't really been injured in his life to that extent razor even score for Florida best 3-point shooter on the team as well he's defended by Devin Booker who's in there for Kentucky what a season he's put together the threads Minh from Grand Rapids Michigan chiozza steps through and the length of Johnson playing a factor for Kentucky this is Andrew Harrison playing alongside Tyler Ulis trying to go up top for Lee could not convert on the Aleut three wide open alley-oop you just have to lay it next to the rim something Kentucky works on he practice every day when they drive Carter the drive and kick finney-smith train to the triple we're tied at 7 Kentucky rushes it up the floor settle in now with cauley-stein getting ready to check in next whistle casing Hill for Florida as well and Devin Robinson hooker feeds the post we post Johnson double-team a hard one Murphy and finney-smith there defensively Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon star and TVs number one new comedy The Odd Couple Thursday after the Big Bang Theory only CBS Kentucky is just 2 of 8 from the field slow start for the Wildcats out of bounds Florida will retain it lorna struggles against pressure that's not normally the staple of a Billy Donovan team what's been the difference this year this is a Florida team they lost expectations were very high they will wait too high they lost four senior starters guys that have been to three lead a to the final four and frankly some of their highly counted players like Casey Hill which was laid the ball in and that disappointing season likes that up-tempo style to get into the lane we seem to penetrate rejected Robinson the freshman with a SWAT of Booker in speaking in Florida it's a little bit like just Florida football when you're not good enough at the quarterback fish you're not good enough at the point guard position the rest of the team is going to kind of sink to that level whereas great point guard play can bring the team up Tyler Ulis I think we'll keep that for Kentucky teams a future even if he's a lob pass hanging around turnover he'll trucks it to the skies for the jam 11 7 Florida thanks to a Seminole run by the Gators and a for all run by KC Hiller's I was pointing out the season that he's out Hill is really split up shooting the ball sometimes you get it dumped you guys that Lane called the armored Philip the drive induce Aaron Harrison for Kentucky it's 11 9 Florida Hill swings it finney-smith he's gonna pass no balls being asked to get to a ball screen off the hands of Frasier out of outs turnover Florida Frasier got hurt in that last game as you pointed out bird but he was run a bit of a fever in the first half he had 10 points shot 14 remember Corinne finney-smith was suspended for a couple times as well those are their two best stories no doubt they pissed Frazier's Korean War without it Harrison feeding down low cauley-stein a back in make that total turning left and doesn't get the roll what board is doing is they're double-teaming the low post read affect me from the baseline stop attacking the rim it's rebounded by cauley-stein Ulis the other way two-point lead for Florida 12:30 to deploy in this first half from Rock Karl towns lost the basketball now to the big showy in that victory over Georgia rallying 19 points 7 rebounds foul called as Chalmers backing in it will work against Murphy who will now take a seat replaced by Horford all the talk has been about Jalil Okafor as the number one prospect but there's a growing Septimus that it's not raised to think about karl-anthony towns is the number one prospect in college basketball he's a great shot blocker very good though post for highly skilled seven foot three and a half inch wingspan they're actually inside outside capabilities shot clock is down to 15 Julis works it over to towns whips it inside what a feed underneath Trey Lyles by himself [Applause] we're tied at 11 Florida has been attacking the basket 13 shots most of them have come in the lane Harrison went for the seal and a touchdown out front as he hit Robinson on the perimeter all tied up here in the first half Florida holding its own against Kentucky more first-half action coming up front college basketball here on CBS Kentucky opens up four of 12 from the field they're tied with Florida 11 apiece now planning for success presented by Northwestern Mutual here's John Calipari will you build your own confidence if I give you confidence I can take it away if you build your own confidence through competence through demonstrated performance no one takes that away now it's interesting Calipari who is very close to dr. Bob Rotella one of the top sports psychologists and performance coaches in the world had him in to talk to the players a couple of weeks ago Doug and John has said hey the perfection that's not really what the focus is yet when dr. rotella spoke to the players they really want to complete the task here it's important to them individually that's what's special about this team is they're down nine on the road at steadman College seems blackout place going crazy and they huddled up as a team and said we're not losing and there is something in a culture in which we run a block call Anthony towns rejecting Horford on the offensive end Lyle's the back end try to pick out Finn Smith pirouettes and it's rebounded by town's part of the problem with the AAU culture if you talk to college basketball coaches is there's always another games and so losing doesn't mean as much to young players that's not the case with these teams naturally they have winners and competitors some that's really hard to evaluate in recruiting crushing pass inside nice touch for the town's clearance Wiles count it long to Porter trey lyles originally from Saskatchewan by way of Indianapolis Indiana Arsenal Tech all-time leading scorer that high school and he's playing his more natural and Leasing colleges more natural power forward position that really makes Kentucky team that's hard to guard the offensive end took on lead for the Wildcats half-court set here for Florida ten and a half to play first half Hill against challenge [Music] look at Tyler Ulis give it up Robinson kick city Smith lines it up back in the iron long rebound track down by Aaron Harrison [Applause] Florida gets back for ffensive LY sweet stroke but it doesn't go Rooker's been struggling from three-point territory of late coming into the game six of his last 23 some of us got up early went to Kentucky shoot around others and slept in till about noon those of us who did we watched Devin Booker go through about a half hour after they walk through trying to refine his jokes from inside a Horford throws it down some of us didn't have their flight canceled yesterday made it here on time for the actual practice 10-6 Florida in the paint they've outscored Kentucky pinpoint how about on fast-break points six Oh Florida getting out in transition one thing about Kentucky's despite overwhelming Talent they don't try and out possession you and I'll always play up-tempo Lyle's backstage trey lyles he's got the moves on the inside very confident with those floaters bill zips it up and they turned it over trying to hit finish Smith on the baseline the road to the Final Four continues tonight over on CBS Sports Network Mountain West doubleheader tipping off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Wyoming takes on New Mexico followed by Nevada at San Diego State only on the 24-hour Home of CBS Sports 15:13 Kentucky leads it 13 team in division 1 history to win its first 30 games of a season trying to ISO Trey Lyles and he had two buckets in a row he can get a go in a hurry Chikara Johnson is back in clear it for Harrison with 15 to shoot under nine at its deploy in this first half Wow that connection twin connection that was then work there was no twin twin telepathy there Wonder Twins activate wall of mist alley-oop 1513 Kentucky's Carter he's got Lyle's out there Lyle's is six foot ten murphy trying to make it happen on a kick kidding spit slashing to the rim can't finish it rebounded by Johnson for Kentucky fin Smith has got to make shows at Florida wants to really compete for 40 minutes with Kentucky the Sean Harrison knocks it down off the made basket Florida on the push up three Eli Carter the transfers from Rutgers he can't fill it up and he had good looks last time they play Kentucky he was one of eight but it wasn't because he was rushing shots she's got to make early offense Johnson gives it away fifth turnover for Kentucky Frazier brings it across this is much the same script as what happened in the swamp floor to cause 10 first half turnovers and Kentucky was struggling to not give up free shot Frazier that's what they've been missing parameter presence Michael Frazier the second threw up is a huge ray he's got that beautiful looking jump shot the mechanics for Frasier has given Florida two-point lead Lorna's 3 of 4 from three-point territory boy talk with turnovers it's all Gators Lyle's can't answer the box out from Murphy Gio's are the push time for ball fake steps [Applause] fourth Florida turnover Michael Frazier the second is back for Gators if you're gonna be Kentucky you gotta beat it from the outside down it goes for Frazier Gators up to look at the game summary with Florida in front by two points off of turnovers a big key and fast break points Gators have been getting out in transition high and Eagle along with Doug Gottlieb here at Rupp I asked you the question to open up the show you know it's the question that everybody around the country is asking how do you beat Kentucky what have you seen for Florida so far I think they've done a very good job of double-teaming Kentucky in the low post and Kentucky's missed some shots and turn the basketball over and then they've given up some open threes because of transition and their offense you know what's interesting about Florida's often which is called a ball screen motion it's actually stolen from Buckland who they played against in the NCAA tournament and all it does is set a ball screen on one side swing to the other side continuing continuing motion offense but instead of the old classic Bob night passing game pass and cut who is great for a teammate it's perpetual ball screens it's very very effective against the style of defense Kentucky plays Billy Donovan's second man to 500 wins before his 50th birthday Bobby Knight the only coach to do it at a younger age Donovan now at 501 just the idea that Billy Donovan could be 50 years old but if I wasn't that's troubling isn't it yeah it looks good though what mr. sleep late in the final four right he did for Providence who else is in that bound for Syracuse Jerry Tarkanian 1917 Florida in front child cats fans getting a little antsy here they're just not used to feed down on the scoreboards other team kept pushed him here if they've really struggled against the non ranked team or the ranked teams Carter almost turned it over the side mercy denied karl-anthony towns with the block hangs up its emotionless spatially but colony counts what a weapon defensively yeah they'll lose track he'll lose sight abuse call Anthony towns loses Alex Murphy but he blocks the shot and he shoots it in bounds and then secures the rebound it's one thing to blocking the third row that looks good but what karl-anthony towns did was far more effective second foul on Walker towns can't back it up with a jump shot it's rebounded by Walker for Florida did you see the fluidity out on the perimeter that's why people can be in salivating of what he's eventually going to be at the offensive a dunker little pump and he scores on the interior this Walker kid suspended half of his first year at Florida but his highly-touted is almost anyone on the basketball floor to struggle to find a position in a role within this Florida team it is an eight-oh Gators run on the outside towns he's got cauley-stein on the interior mrs. Santa John Murphy fake left-hand no towns it was tipped by Walker town sticks with it Pat banks it in karl-anthony towns with a finish that one was on Chris Walker he's supposed to double-team the low post he's late chiozza in a rush that ends the 8-nothing run chiozza will set up the offense as we approach five minutes to play first ten lines it up can't hit the three rebounded by Aaron Harrison these were Kentucky his brother Andrew Harrison up the floor Carter picks him up Ulis feeds inside ball fake cauley-stein turns what a move beautiful play by the junior Willie cauley-stein Billy Donovan takes a timeout when Willie cauley-stein arrived on campus he couldn't score if you unlocked him in the gym not anymore by the history of 30 and o teams previously twelve of them six went on to win the national championship ten of the twelve reached the final four none of those teams lost after the 30 and O start in the 31st game I am so confused by but I do think that it's important heading forward to realize what's being said well the idea is if you get popped if you lose you're not gonna lose your next game because a team doesn't beat you twice Kentucky will play of the SEC Tournament in Nashville but when they wanted Ashe a championship they lost in the SEC Championship that's on a death knell sometimes a good wake-up call for James Robinson gives it up the finished fifth not talking 9 Hill Smalley it's me with fitting Smith kick-out he'll ones River rejected on the perimeter by towns shot clock violation karl-anthony towns ferocious this is just a case of a player doing what his coach wants him to do but not reacting to the situation KCl had a long talk with Billy Donovan and Billy Collins before the game he said hey look you're not shooting well just shoot 15 footers off the dribble he'll make those but that plate called for him to step in and take an open phrase not a shot that's walkable by conduct turnover by Andrew Harrison just lost the ball on the perimeter Fraser looks for an opening picked up by the versatile cauley-stein 3:40 to play in this first half six turnovers for Kentucky razor lines it up rims out we got it five towns three bad possessions in a row from Florida's new bad threes in the block shots Patterson all the way and drew Hasson taking it to the rack he has played great basketball so confident in the mid-range in the full court and set up finney-smith except falling star and he wins the - battle somebody had to last year he was the master of the pump fakes he was known as having the best pump fake in the history of the SEC this year he's taken more threes that's what he actually does best pump fake and drive to the basket check out closer Devin Booker drills it from three he's just got that old-school game Booker averaging 11 points per game that's number two on Kentucky the penetration the bucket goes for Casey Hill in the foul chance at a three-point play for Hill 2013 McDonald's all-american will head to the line when we come back attacking karl-anthony towns Casey Hill getting to the rack Gators hanging tough all right Doug you've been asked this over and over again you fall asleep with the number one seeds on your mind what's your feeling right now I believe Duke should be a number one seed they beat Wisconsin and Virginia both on their home floor I think Wisconsin should be a 1 seed the numbers may not add up but I think anyone can realize that not just as big 10 outright champions just essentially the same team that went to the Final Four and look Virginia has up now would be a 1 seed but they're playing without Justin Anderson who had the wrist injury then he just had an appendectomy he's their best offensive player I think Arizona who you'll see next on CBS ice I think they're a one-seed caliber team I think they're a better team than Virginia I think though they need to beat Utah in the pac-12 championship game and hope that Virginia loses tonight and loses in the ACC tournament in order to get that fourth number-one seed it'll all be official one week from tomorrow right here on CBS the NCAA tournament selection show Florida is outscored Kentucky in transition 9 to both teams are shooting at two percent Casey Hill a 54% shooter at the line too strong rebounded by talents Kentucky up by one we've got 320 to play in his first half they have six turnovers birds and they didn't have a turnover in the first half against Georgia as Florida goes to a matchup zone John Calipari actually scolded his team so he want more turnover it's like a quarterback to tena throw interceptions because all he does is check a childlikeness like alex jones so take some risks nice Lyle's but not too many risks out of bounds mr. pass and that's a turnover they averaged ten point eight three game that's the lowest per game average in the SEC Wisconsin lowest in the country at seven and a half per game that's the seventh Kentucky turnover Billy Donovan squad down by one and we talked about this down year for Florida in your eyes it's actually one of the better coaching jobs Billy Donovan has done with this team they won their last two there's no quit in this team he's dealt with suspensions with injuries losing four seniors and if you look at Ford they're playing far better basketball now they did a month and a half ago Robinson called on a travel he couldn't get a clean shot off and came down with the ball coming off AT&T at the half break humble Clark Kellogg Seth Davis highlights from a very busy Saturday including Villanova looking to hang on to a potential number one seed the bubble teams hoping to improve their tournament resumes it's all coming up AT&T at the half I think pilling opens very similar to last year's Florida probably not an NBA player on that roster but a senior lay the team been through the battles won the Big East honey they're a really good team and my logic behind them not being once he then beaten into the top three seats pull up top for Trey Lyles he's so skilled the dad Tommy was the player overseas and you mentioned that's where he was born burst him out coached him in high school coached him in a you [Music] [Applause] 28:25 Kentucky Lyle's has a got the triple against Carter of Florida so the turnover is now piling up for the Gators seven on each side well a little bit of self-destruction here from the Gators turning it over quick shots missing free throws they've really outplayed Kentucky in the first half right now the score doesn't reflect it and you it's a deflating feeling if you go in feel like you play better than the other team and you're still down at the half just a year removed from a Florida team that went undefeated in the SEC 18 and Oh had a 30 game winning streak rejected city Smith coming over to help on Harrison chiozza no opening there Horford gives it up 50 seconds left tip not a bounce five hooker Florida will retain it this is where Andrew Harrison has to be more explosive you get a step gather yourself and get to the rim cannot allow yourself to have your shot block he is not a small guard he's six foot five hear that big play like you're that thing cauley-stein will check chiozza my screen set my finney-smith gets around Harrison chiozza underneath out of bounds off of Horford Florida turns it over again it's been a rough final stretch in this first half for Billy Donovan squad and you mentioned a disappointing year but three can second Elite Eights in a bottle for a couple of SEC championship worked in undefeated the SEC last year what a run that last group had 36 and three including that 30 game winning streak final four loss to eventual champions UConn as to Kentucky in the national championship game three second approach uh clock to game clock towns turn [Applause] dishing it he'll to the whole Paula's tip counted this is allowed the double-team comes and he drops just a beautiful layup portray Lyle shot at the horn off the mark from Aaron Harrison and we hit the break with Kentucky in front 32:25 against Florida the Wildcats try to complete an undefeated regular season they've got the lead 32:27 at the break let's go to Greg Gumbel in New York some of the teams that went undefeated and eventually won the national championship we're at halftime here at rock 3227 high and eagle along with Doug Gottlieb the rest of our CBS crew look we know the scrutiny that they're under but we know how much it means to them as well for John Calipari and company what'd you think of their performance in the first half it was okay yeah I thought there were moments in which they looked engaged offensively and defensively I don't care what anybody says you want to win every game you want to go down in history as our could be the greatest team ever hello the greatest Kentucky team ever is an incredible honor so it this second half has to mean a lot to the coaches in that locker room and to the players on the floor well from that first half he stood out for you I thought trey lyles magnificent at the offensive end he gives you the ability to shoot the basketball at the power forward spot to try look at that magnificent footwork you really sparked their offense but like New Kids on the Block allowed the Gators to hang tough we're both at Rupp Arena we just got a new kids on the block reference Danny wood man I know Capital One first death that's he was my favorite Smith eight turnovers for Florida seven for Kentucky taking advantage of those turnovers Florida puts up 10 points 11 points in transition for the Gators well there's some similarities to the game in the swamp in which floor to miss some free throws down there and there's pre throw here they've had some empty possessions heck they kicked away a first half lead they outplayed the Wildcats see if they can take advantage of the Wildcats kind of sleepwalking you open up challenge to the Harry Karl Anthony towns wasting no time getting things started here in the second half and this is one of the great things about John Calipari and why I hated the platoon system because he plays the guys who deserve to play based upon how they're playing on a given night this matches Kentucky's largest league Carter doesn't take it that a travels and you know why that happened that happened because Tyler Ulis got to start in the second half and he picked up chiozza at midcourt and that was a 30-foot pass it was a very difficult pass to make our officiating crew Tony Carr angel Lindsey Anthony Jordan made that fall and here's Julis the freshman inside towns he turns it over I don't think he walked I thought that was a pretty good post move but but but the the the platoon system verbs if it took away really by my estimation what makes John Calipari great for Kentucky and that he's fearless he doesn't care what your reputation is he wants to play the guys who earn playing time and now with only nine guys and late in the season he's doing just then 32:27 were just underway in the second half Kentucky is 30 and Oh 17 and OH in the sec so Devin Booker gets the start in the second half along with you [Music] do not go in there Dorian finney-smith rejected Hill on a spin created Kasey Hill has come to play Booker fakes on a three cauley-stein gets a touch dish off the back for a train Wiles great feel when you're going 610 611 seven-foot and make it all pass and share the basketball it's pretty hard to play against Kentucky when they're getting low post position 12 points now for Lyles he's the high man Horford year out of the post to chiozza the return of Michael stranger the second he did hit a three in that first half action after the high ankle sprain he suffered against Kentucky last month Hill on the redirect which set up buffer rejected number five for towns Florida comes away with a shot clock down to one do they know it they don't like a bouncer at the club can I come in here nah man you can't come in karl-anthony towns is such a skilled shop Locker might have gotten away with a foul but what makes him special is he doesn't leave the floor until you do and still he has the length of arms and the timing to block shots they three near defensive players can't get it to go but he's going to the free-throw line four points seven rebounds two assists five blocks for the Piscataway New Jersey native now this is good basketball the offensive end as well the three big guys working for each other screening for each other now you know move Karl towns talks to when he's having a bad game he's getting yelled at Rosa Parks to Carlitos his imaginary friend there yeah there are times early in the season in which he was talking they thought he's talking to himself and one of the assistant coaches pulled John Calipari site said no he's talking to Carlito and they had to discuss who is Carlito his imaginary play wow that's way I guess karl-anthony towns was a member of the Dominican national team at the age of 16 I don't know if Carlito joined in lead to a Denali stand at the Dominican Republic his dad that's like a lot of it spread the floors Carter lines it up back of the iron finish Smith couldn't grab it ulis leading the charge on a cross over towns can't get it to drop cauley-stein touched it last it's out of outs the CBS sports app the only app Florida and Kentucky fans need get your scores real-time alerts expert fix bracket games and more download the CBS sports app right now good good basketball is good bass boat is feeding the hot hand with basketball of getting a low post punch every time down the floor captains playing good basketball drive and kick city Smith the jumper he's got it a three Dorian finney-smith who shoots it at 43% from three-point territory has cut the Kentucky lead to three agent Johnson cauley-stein hanging in the air he'll go to the free-throw line as the Harrison brothers get ready to check in so keep an eye on Dorian finney-smith reason right there guys as the penetration comes Willie cauley-stein kind of gets lost and he loses his man for just a second that's a nice hockey assist by Kasey Hill he passes out to chiozza chiozza finds Dorian finney-smith and because Willie cauley-stein with sweeping three points for the Gators second foul on finish Smith on the other end and he will take a seat Alex Murphy the Duke transfer checks in Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison in for Kentucky so Calipari mixing and matching now with Lyle's Ulis Andrew Harrison to Corey Johnson Aaron Harrison is waiting to check in [Music] well this allows trey lyles to play the powerful position so he starts the half by going big with Lyles at the 3 and wears you out inside and as Florida adjusts and they go big Lyle's moves to the 4 and that leaves Alex Murphy on trey lyles and I think that's a matchup that John Calipari will take all that Chris Walker is matched up with dakari Johnson on the inside like a Fraser the second returns for Florida Carter to Hill Joel's been playing off the ball a bit more late tailed the drive and kick Murphy doesn't take the three zigzags to the rim rejected Johnson long arm of the law knocked outside to Carter that's a hard one Browns Murphy just checked into the game probably shoot a shot shot clock at five head and shoulders fake high off the window Walker the follow it will go tipped up in the air nearly goes down but it's controlled by miles for Kentucky loop it inside Johnson kick Patterson open look off the mark rebounded by Walker he'll wanna push leaves it for the Carter three bottom he might have gotten valid as well he like Carter is credited one this is the best I've seen Casey he'll play maybe in his college career Florida's 5 of 9 from three-point territory he'll came in he's a little tired now he can't play tired big resume McDonald's all-american month road Academy inside Johnson his foul dakari Johnson the rugged sophomore who also attended Montford move over the free throw line maybe he'll drive in trait he liked harder making the cats pay got a good one Lexington well we know hoops are a way of life here in Lexington Ashley Judd has been a big part of this for a long time swearing cheaters man when you get to the age you gotta wear cheaters that breaks my heart happens to all of us Doug happens to all of us check out the AT&T fast analysis Wheatley told you it's about Florida's ball streams and here's a perfect example where Dorian finney-smith sets the strain and Marcus Lee he has to help because he I Carter's driving because of the angles there's no one to help him this is exactly what Florida's looking for offensively I'm looking for it every time they screen on the ball but in certain scenarios especially when it's Dorian finney-smith that's the penetration and kick out that makes their offense go shooting 56% from three-point territory here today 32% on the season Florida has cut the Kentucky lead 2-1 15:29 to play we are in the second half here in Lexington we're certainly Billy Donovan's 50 years old or nearly 50 years old then ashley judge larren cheaters you're going back to that man dakari Johnson shoots it at 63% of the free throw line [Applause] she doesn't either to see the game no Doug was just to see the box score that's that's the line that all of our parents have used that we begin to use our size don't need them to see only to see things up close 3835 Kentucky Johnson one of nine McDonald's all-american on this Kentucky roster that board set for free shirt screen he was looking for a lob instead skip pass out Frazier trying to work his way back into a rhythm that's 11 turnovers now for the Gators they've missed Gators have to be more aware as yep pretty easy call that's the second time in that exact same corner Florida has stepped out of bounds in the second half Kentucky number one in field goal percentage defense one in three-point percentage defense at 27% cauley-stein spin doesn't go see I don't like that with this lineup but this lineup Andrew Harrison and Devin Booker should be the focal point of their offense Davin Booker's got to get a look not Willie cauley-stein in the low post that's probably the worst thing that he does on a basketball floor fans wanted to travel on Walker as he snagged the rebound yeah 15:32 to play in this second half and a timeout called by Billy Donovan they'll have 17 seconds to shoot will step aside and rock and truTV number-one team in the country Kentucky 38 to 35 lead on Florida the Wildcats have one more hurdle in trying to run the table this season for a perfect regular season record they are 30 and ona action here against Florida a team that went 82 no in the conference last season but remember their most difficult game was the last time they played Kentucky in the SEC Tournament one point eight Florida turns it over for the 12th time comparison on a kick look we're looking to get involved Aaron Harrison nicely God there's never rush that's the thing about this team at which it's three points it's two points five points is they they don't seem to panic even when other teams that are undefeated might start to penny they were down by nine against Georgia the other night and you could not tell from their body language that they had to go into rally mode he'll check lucker controlled by cauley-stein [Applause] 13:35 to play second half harrison gives up his dribble out to his twin brother Aaron Harrison Calipari calls out instructions hooker the freshman's hips it up ten to shoot hooker drops it inside Johnson the back end Thomas Johnson side of the backboard the devil is coming from the baseline dakari Johnson keeps turned into the baseline what Florida wants him to go he'll we'll handle it from the Florida Gators are down by five he'll spring in his style JC Hill the scoop to the hoop he has looked like a different player here today it's using the ball screen and attacking the big men of Kentucky their tremendous shot blockers but you can't block every looking he's using the rim to protect him from the shot block Kentucky's lead is three cooks inside Harrison confident aggressive but you mentioned the body language and neither of us have been on CNN is body language expert better this year for the Harrison twins it rims out Walker the offensive boards floats it up a 10 Chris Walker has been a difference maker for Florida here today well the big difference though is in Casey Hill who's living at the rim we'll get some changes here as Kurtz checks in along with Carter for Florida and a guy who's shooting and low to mid 20s from three-point range you know at this point the season if you're open you're open for a reason but he's not taking those jump shots instead taking up that slack and getting the bucket out of rajon rondo style which is what his coaches implored him to do they're going to give you space use it to get a running start and then avoid defenders melanne and finish he backed up the very steady Scottie Wilbekin last season for Florida she picked out some wild Harrison fend off motor no and it's rebounded by penny Smith with Florida down by three I like the shot but Devin Booker doesn't get any looks hit a couple shots in the first half pounds and Booker have to get some looks with North Kentucky getting their offense going Hill on a bounce for pity Smith drives in spins and denied once again it's towels [Applause] [Music] Harrison on a kitchen with brother Aaron running in time on the shot clock sounds get to touch out high turns with a left hand he's special 4439 Big Blue Nation rising up partner on a pump fires short air ball snagged by Lyle's for Kentucky Andrew Harrison with a head of steam gives it to gunner on the foul the question will be where did the contact happen then wave it off Anthony Jourdan meeting up with Jill Lindsey the officials talked it over they call the bump before the shooting motion Kentucky will have it on the side when we come back here at Rupp 44:39 Kentucky leading Florida tomorrow on CBS CY the New York Times called the new drama battle creek a delight from the creators of Breaking Bad and House Battle Creek tomorrow at 10:00 9:00 central only CBS John Calipari and the Wildcats interaction at 30 and oh the previous best start in Kentucky history was 25 and Oh comes back in the 1953-54 season [Music] seven of their thirty games have been decided by ten points or less for the most part they've dominated but they have been challenged at home by unranked teams old myths came in here and forced overtime Ole Miss had a chance to win it in regulation so this is almost par for the course for Kentucky they get up for the big game get it in towns on a kick one dribble and a jumper over the backboard Andrew Harrison off the market it's hard to fault Andrew Harrison because that's a pretty good shot but when Karl towns gets double kicks it out throw it back into the big film feed him until he bursts just looking at some of the numbers Florida has gotten to the rim quite a bit but they only have one free throw attempt Frazier saves it 10 and a half to play second half first on a bounce cutter is Hill Kasey Hill rising up for the Gators off the Mait basket Harrison is fouled Aaron Harrison taking it to the hole coach with beautiful passes Kasey Hill backdoors and gets the layup Andrew Harrison caught ball watching this all you man's got to be a triangle got to be the point of the triangle defensively hurts an undersized post kind of a worker be not come in looking to score just looking at bang around bodies get a rebound and make passes finney-smith his heads for Florida Yul is now handling it for Kentucky back in my towns kick put their open one okay Devin Booker from deep 4741 this matches their largest lead of the day out on the perimeter Carter [Applause] they clear out the area for finney-smith tend to shoot harder against cauley-stein cross over harder step through doesn't go rebound ripped down by towns 935 to play Kentucky on the move Florida gets back defensively whiles puts it on the deck sticking with it towns can't finish it then it's secured by Carter Carter accelerating and back it out Florida will catch its breath timeout Billy Donovan a 30-second timeout taken by the Gators 47 to 41 Kentucky trying to keep the record unblemished for state championships in high school at modern-day high school and here's my outlook bird for the tournament I think Arizona is a Final Four team I think they'll probably be out west and whether it's going over get shipped out there or Regina gets shipped out there I think Arizona is a very very good team Shambo has never gotten there I think of a bottle for caliber team Stanford's in an IT team very disappointing season for Johnny Dockers coming up a sweet 16 last year his only and parents in six years Jason Randall hasn't been able to lead them over that hump Phil troggs antics knocked away by towns Ulis the other way taking it to the hole Tyler Ulis scores on the inside Kentucky's got its largest lead he'll down the middle foul called and if beliles picking it up now Casey Hill has made a living of driving in there but Karl towns getting another block shot and Tyler Ulis seen the back end open making him pay [Music] Carter triggers in for chiozza 8:48 to play in the second half five turnovers in the second half for the Gators and another whistle this time it's Ulis five turnovers and how many times if they driven in and Karl towns has blocked their shot which is essentially a turnover meanwhile Kentucky has turned it over just once in the second half chiozza sets things up Hill is off the ball defended by you as Chios of working Benny Smith on a hand off the hill time to work with on the shot clock 16 at the time Carter needs help 10 to shoot [Music] he'll step back jumper no one rebound to the shortest or Ulis [Applause] tomorrow laughs any towns finishes Kentucky's got a double-digit lead 7:01 for the Wildcats Chios on a cross outside finney-smith a rut here for florida chiozza shake and bake he'll try to create Carter fend off on top that it's finish Smith on the receiving end of the alley-oop when Florida's been able to line up and defend Kentucky it's been an even game it's been transitioned buckets and gilding towns on a kick ulis full of mallards does it go rebound fought for wildly attack and it struck down by finish Smith fans wanted to call flipping ahead they cannot solve the Lexington skyline it's towns out of bounds [Applause] and contact foul called that is number six for karl-anthony towns like a cat playing with a mouse you want to go in there don't go in there I got over the goaltending but Kentucky denying access game summary with Kentucky in front 51 243 the shooting percentage is on the rise turnovers they've limited in the second half and karl-anthony towns is filling up the stat sheet high on Eagle Doug Gottlieb defensively no doubt he is a major impact player offensively he's very efficient it's not like he gets all that many touches no but he can score in a low post he can pass from the high post occasionally score but it is the defense and look you look at these numbers and they hold teams to the lowest field goal percentage in the three-point era when the reason is you can't drive in there and he's got seven blocks on the day these are all clean and it got away with a foul in the second half probably just got away with a goaltend but it's sewing can be just intimidating the young players you drive in there you think here I go and now it comes back out additionally a lot of times you have guards driving in when you get your shot block it leads the back end open and that's where Kentucky is just fantastic in transition nine points nine rebounds six blocks for karl-anthony towns McDonald's all-american out of Saint New Jersey natives the jumpshot has improved throughout the season you can see the makings of a good jump shot and I think he's just scratching the surface right now no question and that's why if there's NBA scouts your MBA general managers here today that decision likely sometime in the near future that's the good news is to have the keep great play Jahlil Okafor the karl-anthony towns I'm not sure there's a bad decision he made this town sits he's replaced by dakari Johnson and as you know covering the NBA the two things you need to be able to do defensively guard the ball screen and protect the rim he does him both hunky back and front by 10 Carter handles it against Karen Harrison 17 to shoot chiozza probes Walker doesn't take the jump shot instead it's Murphy on the outside spins Murphy that stuff through cauley-stein bites on the face and Murphy with his first deuce of the day flush Murphy's brother played here Alex start his career at Duke the long team turns to many players that use transferred in midseason Alex's dad Jay a standout at Boston College later played in the NBA and then overseas 5325 Kentucky we approached six minutes to go second half Johnson's bumping bodies with Murphy Cory Johnson dakari Johnson wants to go to his right hand hook over his left shoulder every time Moore has done a really good job when he's hit the opposite block up doubling him because he always goes the same way that time single coverage he can really score Brooklyn native gets into the scoring column Stefan had a steal Aaron Harrison straight ahead for the two-handed flush biggest cushion of the day for Kentucky remember the moment the flapper [Music] Kentucky clapped on margin of victory this season for Kentucky is 21 point 4 points per game at home it's 25 points per game Florida has done an excellent job in that first half they've tested Kentucky in the second half John Calipari his team beginning to pull away with a 12-point advantage now Florida cut it to one it was 36 to 35 it's an extended 21 to 10 run for the Wildcats off of the timeout finish Smith with cauley-stein Carter he's bumped out front and a foul called at the 524 marks yeah I think these challenges have been good for some time now you look at the LSU game up 10 get a technical foul game gets close they find a way to win down nine against Georgia playing here at the pressure of finishing a regular season undefeated and then finding ways to create shots for yourself when you can't score in the school for finney-smith contact no Paul Murphy puts it on the deck challenging Johnson foul against the big man the crowds upset because Willie cauley-stein took a charge after the pass I think the officials were just surprised they're so used to Kentucky trying to block shots they maybe weren't prepared for college 9 plant miss Beaton taking a good choke that is four team fouls now against Kentucky these two free throw attempts will double up with the number of attempts floor and I had before this possession at the line well they don't have a low post players so that's not a way to to get back and though they've driven in there and scored they've driven and tried to avoid the contact for the most part so you the outsider parachutes in and says they have laura's not getting any calls there's a call there too they may have missed push to the most part it's been about the style of what Florida wants to do which is penetrate and kick out to some time they've scored 28 points in the paint Kentucky by 10 we come up on five minutes to play in the second half [Music] cauley-stein puts it inside nonsan triple team cauley-stein is there a little flip for cauley-stein to get Kentucky a 12-point lead Carter draws attention working around the perimeter he'll Murphy one-on-one with Johnson Fraser makes his move and he turns it over 15 4 [Applause] talking about one of the best defensive teams in college basketball recent history at least going off the numbers if they put up and downsize them you can't play small against them because of a Willie cauley-stein in the Trey Lyles who can guard perimeter players who are disguised it's big men John Calipari his team has turned it over just once in this second half Kentucky leads at 59 247 they are 30 and O of win would put them at 31 and O going into the SEC Tournament perfect regular season record for the Wildcats Johnson sets the high screen Harrison a lot of dribbling Johnson if you know he has to shoot it because rims out left outside by cauley-stein and a reload for Kentucky fans react that ruff 24000 on hand in Lexington [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Aaron Harrison gets it back eight to shoot scream from Johnson Harrison off-balance doesn't go rebound : Stein is fouled the extended possession for Kentucky and a chance to put points on the board at the line the Kentucky Wildcats 13th team in Division one history behind it scores 30 games of the season they're closing in on a perfect 21 at 112 season a basketball at UK the Kentucky Wildcats leading the Florida Gators 59 to 47 with 3:23 to play in this second half Willie cauley-stein going to the free-throw line the high score for Kentucky is Trey Lyles with 12 points the only other score in double figures is karl-anthony towns with 11 now their leading scorer this season is Aaron Harrison the average is 11 point 3 points per game that would be the lowest leading scorer for a Kentucky team since 1957 yet this team has not lost a game well remember when Florida won back-to-back national titles Al Horford Joakim Noah their two stars nevers 13 points again yep so good basketball is the open man gets the basketball and when you have talented players that can store you don't want selfishness these players they don't play to thirsty they don't want looking at the school if they're not open till turns it over we J through Lane and Ulis will take the air out of the ball with three minutes to play second half there's actually a lot of similarities defensive style wise too talented big guys between this Kentucky team and those Florida team Carter takes a shot Carter is dealt with injuries during his collegiate career had a medical redshirt broken leg in 2013 makes his shoulder just because Andrew Harrison is gonna this is a floppy action where he can go either way so he sets his man up and then he stops and they butt heads this is a lot like the elbow rule where basketball is in fact the contact sports on a collision sport and sometimes contact like that this leads to somebody either catching an elbow or butting heads well Carter appears to be okay and sends Harrison to the free-throw line at the 256 mark shoots at a 78% [Applause] Andrew Harrison leadership abilities he's just quicker as a sophomore compared to his freshman year well he's a man he's matured you know there was a lot of discussion about the Harrison twins when they came here very very talented but they mature emotionally when things were going well they would play they look great they have a bounce and such things are going poorly they wouldn't that's gone in the set I'm here and that's I'm Ben and I'm John Calipari Robinson the jump shot it goes freshman Devin Robinson who has put together a string of some solid games over his last five he's averaging 11 points per game 6.6 on the season that's the future of Florida basketball and all these guys essentially except for John Horford really back next year the SEC is going to be loaded Ben Simmons going to LSU Texas A&M top 10 recruiting class it's going to be a very difficult league maybe the best league in the country ten seasons we're down to two 18 to play Harrison gets out of trouble with a looping feat for us seven to shoot Heelys the penetration he draws the foul Tyler Ulis speedy freshman from Ohio he's terrific you know he nearly went to Michigan State or Iowa but having Tyler Ulis on this team allows you to move Andrew Harrison off the basketball and he's a true point guard that however long he's here just gonna make everybody better his cousin Travis Walton played at Michigan State don't miss the premiere of The Late Late Show with James Corden who's James Corden you ask find out Monday March 23rd only CBS it's favorite Kentucky player growing up Eric Bledsoe undersized strong a little bit stronger a little bit more athletic melba true point guard to tyler ulis [Applause] under two minutes to play [Applause] out of the tunnel city Smith gives it away to karl-anthony towns Kentucky not looking to push it here they've got a double-digit lead with 142 to play closing in on perfection you're supposed to be nervous when you're this young and you're undefeated and everybody's taking shots they never look nervous no signs of it Lyle's the back end while she's talking tough to stop 65 to 49 kentucky pulling away from florida with 115 to go [Applause] Hill one penny Smith the stutter step to the RAM draws the foul Dorian finney-smith will shoot a pair he shoots at at 59% and a little pushing and shoving here is John Horford is trying to play the role of peacemaker it looked like fitty Smith and one of the Harrison brothers got into it [Music] Jr from Portsmouth Virginia his first free-throw attempts of the day 58.4 left on the clock while Kentucky got a bit of a jump start on the year by going to the Bahamas that really allowed them to have confidence understand some of the roles how hard they played against pro teams when they played in the Bahamas and that's one of the reasons I think they're a little bit ahead of the curve when they a thump Kansas they thump Texas take up a UCLA but they haven't really gotten better offensively that having that continue to improve individually and whoever's the hot hand for the most part has gotten the basketball John Calipari mentioned that he has scrimmage more with this team that he has with any other group he's had they're so competitive and they just go ashen one another Robinson jump shot [Applause] and it's going the other way Kentucky basketball 46.6 away from a perfect regular season John Calipari is going back to the seniors the walk-ons that started the game here on Senior Day in Lexington Sam alone Brian long Tod Lanter you may not like teams that have highly decorated players but you can't not like the way this team plays in my opinion as they play together then pull with great intensity and it starts the defensive end which is all you ask the basketball players when they come to college players one play good defense take good shots and they do that look we understand for the seniors this is it yep and luck for a number of those underclassmen this is hit and run as well [Applause] [Music] to not lose a game not just in the sec to play the teams they have played in on time something spectacular the hoop he is fouled on the pass with 31.4 left i got a chance to see North Carolina last week and their coaching staff said hey when the powder-blue comes to town everybody gives you your best game sure that's the same for Kentucky and maybe that's the most impressive thing is what they've done against ranked teams they've just dominated them tip to finish and take Arkansas came in here last weekend beat them three consecutive times but the time that thing has grown up is Kentucky well these games are an event yep it's taken on that feel now for John Calipari on the road at home neutral site I do think they're beatable but I think he got it got you have to beat them on boards got to be patient offensively I think you got to continue to attack him if they're big guys I shoot and jump shots and drag him away from the basket final 25 seconds Parrish it on the dribble thunderous ovation here a truck the pursuit of perfection continues the Kentucky Wildcats finished the regular season 31 and oh another chapter yet to be written in the NCAA tournament Kentucky first power conference team since the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers to enter Conference tournament action undefeated 67 to 50 Kentucky over Florida now it's on to the SEC Tournament before turning their sights to the NCAA tournament Doug Gottlieb standing by with John Calipari Doug coach city Americas team lost a game well you finished the regular season you haven't lost a game give me a sense of what this means to you the accomplishment at this point in the season the good news is I didn't hear one word you just said so what I'll tell you is I'm really proud of this team I got the card offended trait Laos was outstanding our guard play was really good we were a little bit early I was a little bit worried are they worried about winning every game and you know but this team is resilient and the good news is we got enough guys if you and you and you aren't playing well okay we'll play these five and we have enough room to try to figure it out kocha a young bunch and an experienced bunch for the most part what do you think they've learned from this undefeated run it'll help them once the NCAA tournament starts I don't know I just know they know they're in every game the other teams are you know we're not trying to play crazy everybody will say why don't you do it this way do it that way because we're really good in the half-court we don't have to the issue becomes if we make jump shots before we make shots the first half they scored 18 in the paint we had 16 all our drives second half we got that ball in the post scored in there or sport on drives we were pretty good coach Congrats on the undefeated regular season thank you all right ugh coach Calipari we appreciate it for our entire CBS crew am i an eagle saying so long from Lexington final score 67 to 50 Kentucky over Florida the Wildcats undefeated 31 and Oh in the regular season Stanford in Arizona coming up we'll send you to Greg Gumbel in New York after these messages
