kentucky wildcats and the aggies of texas a m for the sec tournament championship and before we tip let's meet our starting lineups and we head to our pa announcer john george good afternoon ladies and brickstone gentlemen in nashville tennessee for the 2016 sec men's basketball tournament and this championship game between the kentucky wildcats and the texas a maggie it's time now to introduce partner they played in the regular season it went to overtime aggies one by two controversial sort of ending 19 800 in here are wearing blue the other 200 wearing maroon and the kentucky fans think that kentucky should have been the regular season champion so here's the rematch think all they want brad but you're right now we'll find a showdown 40 minutes find out who's the best in the sec kentucky says we are the aggies say we are we will find out baby and some interesting matchups caruso versus certainly murray really intrigues me offense versus defense well the best back court in the country belongs to kentucky and jamal murray and tyler euless just about set to tip off before we do check in third member of our team is shannon speak shannon hey there brad let's talk about the x factor in this game the player or players who could make the biggest difference in this game of course for a m it's their bench 42 points in yesterday's game and have been a key factor in their run in this tournament and for kentucky it's gal lavissiere played just four minutes in yesterday's game has the precious legs alex caruso in fact said that gal when he is playing at a high level kentucky is elite of course gal in that starting lineup so they're looking to get him going early the wildcats 25 and eight they've won 28 sec tournament titles the aggies the texas a m newcomers basically to the sec a few years ago they're 26 and seven they're looking for their first sec crowd they haven't won a conference tournament since the old southwest conference in 1986. three of the best in the there's a match up collins going to check euless college of transfer came from south florida played in the ncaa tournament his first year live underneath murray from le mission what a way to start what a great backdoor cut without the ball that's one of the great strengths of jamal murray he moves well without the ball as well as with the ball collins moves it to caruso and now jalen jones against he's got great quickness at that fourth slot jalen jones beats most four guys with his quickness nice hands by briscoe knocking it out of bounds this is the way you open up a game well that's a set play right there they go diagonal they can throw the ball right over the top you can see it to murray look at the movement off the ball great elevation and we know he can flat out shoot so when you got that versatility when you can make the back door cut as well as shoot you're a dangerous threat [Applause] give him a great combo in the wings jones missed everything on a three-pointer and he'll hear about that billy kennedy coach of the year in the sec and has a brand new five-year extension wise and he deserves it really deserves a great feature on him today on espn very unbelievable as he's battled parkinson's and he's doing great he told me right now with meditation and exercise and collins with a foul on euless one thing texas said i'm going to be careful early in this game because i see a certain balance of the swag right now to kentucky that we didn't see earlier in the game with georgia georgia had it on them they're not here with a purpose man they want to win this to prove they're the best in the sec there's one of the best in the business hall of fame coach john calipari in his seventh year not bad he's won a few games he's won a few games like 660. tyler euless the player of the year in the sec and the defensive player of the year in the sec multiple honors and awards last year caruso was the defensive player of the year rips them both four or nothing wildcats feel quite pressure right now i've been trying to think about every rhythm they'd like to run into offensive sets [Applause] [Music] i would think the aggies want to get tyler dale to touch sometime here in the next minute he's been very effective in the box low post for texas a m all year long he sets a pick for house and now he's asking for it [Music] and house fouled on the way to the kentucky ball yeah he came out gave some help and then he reached in john calipari what can you say basically the guy's done an amazing job at kentucky there aren't many people that can handle that job patina was able to handle it he can and i'm not just talking coaching there are a lot of guys that can coach but in kentucky you got to be more than just the coach and euless is found by colin that's colin's second foul that's not good news for the aggies backcourt he's heading to the bench i think on his own right now and that will mean that admon gilder is going to check in [Applause] good player but a freshman and they lose the leadership of collins who's one of the best assist men in the conference and he has to sit well gilda was really a member to heidi raven recruiting class they had a good game yesterday ten points four rebounds he could score get a shot of the dribble good offensive player in transition as well briscoe kick out porthus three got it oh that's big that's big big bassline scoring with their baseline it just takes them to another level only his seventh three-pointer of the year that tells you if it's going for poitras it could go for everybody it's a judgment should be utilized he was absolutely exuberant he wasn't trying to show any disrespect to the official at all and i really thought a better judgment should be utilized now there's no guarantee they would have won the game right kentucky but they would have been in great great shape we had the same kind of call yesterday on ben simmons of lsu and their lackluster performance in our semifinal game i was so disappointed in performance both simmons's effort his energy and the whole lsu team i didn't think they came to play with no fire in their belly at all that was sad because it was embarrassing and humiliating and then in the second game we had a thriller as georgia had kentucky on the ropes deep into the second half before the wildcats came back and won it 93 to 80 over georgia mark fox had that radio play they started to look so well it's like you had their hands full but they responded to the challenge [Applause] working the paint nice shot i'm going to tell you brian he's got talent he's got so many injuries he came out of high school he's so highly rainy some people thought he was going to be a one-and-done player well he's got the perfect body six eight 230 pounds he's got the power he's got the moves he's just inconsistent tyler davis down low came up short but did draw foul nice entry trying to get davis on the interior take a look at mr poytus right here this is the kid that has great ability a little screen i was gonna roll in size big wide as brad said so well he's got great moves hey you know your basketball man you do a great job football basketball man i wouldn't mind him as a tight end actually he can right like some of those guys that came from basketball you think about uh the great great player that played from california they said you guys are coming way too far out on isaiah briscoe who's not going to shoot the ball they said back up remember what we what we studied and what we watched in preparation for this game willis will track it down and that's stolen away by gilder ahead to caruso with murray on him and he lost it good job by murray stopping the easy layup oh he gets it back and he scored that time he gets him down had to fight for that one didn't they cruiseless dad was after the player played for any son athletic director now at texas a m so it's a family affair [Music] first tie the game at 13. good look by willis into murray and murray a chance for a three-point play you know here's another example my removal without the basketball something i've talked about so often so many kids become stationary when they don't get the ball watch murray he's thinking about how to cut without the ball and there he is very active always moving i'm telling you the toughest player to guard is a guy in motion for your young kids listening dick the other thing about murray early in the year he was kind of a spot up shooter he'd run around a screen and just stand there now he's creating shots he can get a shot off the dribble he can score inside he's becoming a complete player didn't hit the free throw but nonetheless trying he's averaging over 25 a game since february first leads the nation he placed up on the defensive end you know john calibre hey you got to play defense i know you can shoot i want you to play defense he was kidding him about it yesterday as he was getting photobombed when shannon was talking to coach calipari murray with a big smile on his face saying what do you mean i don't play defense here's gilder got it that's good plus basketball getting that out of gilda replacing college tied again seven minutes in 15 a so far they've done a piece job keeping the three-point shot away from murray he's got two backdoor threats but he hasn't had open looks from the pride right here it's not gonna affect these clubs getting in the tournament seating wise it might affect the three or four and as much david said so well today on the gameday show not much difference for them tyler euless just laid that one up on the back of the rim and it fell in he's got six points everybody we're going to see how interesting it is on draft day to see who drafts him with his size a lot of people say he can't play avery johnson said i played in the league a lot of years trust me this kid can play in the league kentucky good defense right now sticking to everybody with six on the shot clock and a guy that was big yesterday trochee morelos who had 13 points actually led a m in scoring yesterday off the bench and he's got his first basketball team one thing they go to the game on the tyler davis putback so they have size tyler davis got into some foul trouble he went out to me i loved kentucky's approach early and really throughout the course of the first half was to try to get the ball underneath and attack the wildcat attack the aggies in the paint the thing is about this texas a m team though is they're balanced they have great depth and it showed up in the first half once again i got to ask you as a guy who has played this game this is a neutral court it's supposed to be a neutral court this may as well be rough arena how difficult was that for texas a m they call it lexington south but i love what alex caruso was telling his team and this is an experience team this is what we talked about yesterday during the semifinal game when i was sitting next to brad is that this is a team that has the ability to have upperclassmen and experience there senior leadership but freshmen as well it has those guys that are off the bench that are able to step in and knock down shots they don't have to just rely on one or two guys just the same energy is affected by the crowd i'm affected by your energy i've got plenty of it around vital you can't help it under 55 points they also have to value the basketball a lot better than they did in the first meeting against uconn where they turned it over 20 times you're surprised that georgia's not on that list aren't you georgia should be on that list and when you look at non-conference strike to schedule how well they played here they beat south carolina three times and i agree with what dick vitale was saying in the first half the sec is more than a two-bit league this year south carolina frank martin has done a tremendous job they're in the ncaa tournament i'll be shocked if they're not you and i have watched this conference up close all season long they are certainly more than a two school bid conference it's unbelievable how good this conference can be at points during the season meanwhile the big ten well we know both of these schools will be heading there will it be michigan state or purdue as a team that gets the automatic bid a classic matchup the first time around between these two teams went into overtime a one-point victory for purdue but to me the guy and you if you're playing michigan state and you're going against tom izzo you've got to have incredible toughness and focus it's aj hammond's to me because he was outstanding seven offensive rebounds in their first meeting during big ten conference play the second chance points toughness those are things we usually say about michigan state but if purdue and aj hammonds brings that energy and that focus today they could pull off the upset denzel valentine of course the difference maker for michigan state when you yeah he's pretty good look at michigan state again we talked about uconn as a team that makes a run this time of year tom izzle squad in michigan state seems to be one of those squads that does it each and every year but are they big enough up front this time around i think they are and they're experienced enough too and they're passionate enough and they've got great great leadership and i think that right now michigan state is playing the best basketball in the country and they would be my pick going into the tournament to win the ncaa and likely a number one seed for michigan state as well because a couple of teams that you thought would get number one seeds villanova being one of them oklahoma perhaps or xavier as well they all got knocked out so kansas north carolina virginia bowl there is nothing that will captivate america in sports for three weeks like march madness i didn't realize your ball dome looks so good with confetti shannon's with the winning coach coach i know this team is not a finished product what do you think about what the way that they handled what you called the eye of the storm well we had some guys kind of were having they weren't ready for the eye of the storm and that's why i brought it up you got to want to make the play you got to want to make the rebound you got to want to be the guy you can't be out there like hoping someone else does and think we're going to be in a team that advances i thought tyler was unbelievable derek's three jamal's three were big we still didn't rebound the way we needed to but it was a heck of a win now how do you describe the value of tyler euless he's the player of the year in the country everybody knows it but they're afraid to say it because he's five nine there's no way someone five nine could be a first round draft pick well isaiah thomas is doing okay right now in in boston so what it is i think the little guy's coming back and this guy's proven it i know you've said all along this tournament is all in preparation for next week how prepared are they still have some holes i saw today that i kind of disappointed in but you know what let's enjoy this we want a championship and again you know
