Americans came to the wastage issue a home for Super Bowl xlviii its box and it's the second half of the Sunday doubleheader and this matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints Saints are riding high on top of the NFC South coming off a thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys offensively and defensively you saw Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers trying to get something going here offensively early it was a bad week last week against Carolina I'm glad you're with us [Applause] go out of the back of the end zone and the 49ers and Kaepernick in this offense will start at the 20 well you said it Joe I mean you take a look at what has happened with Colin Kaepernick in the winds and then the way that he has struggled in those three losses not a typical around this league if your quarterback plays well gives you a chance if he does it hard to win in this league but a tough week for him the tough week for this offense certainly not the same skilled players that they had a year ago Michael Crabtree again not playing today expect Frank Gore to get a lot of the loan here this afternoon Vernon Davis however the tight end coming off the concussion is playing and out of the shotgun to start today it's Manningham please with good coverage by Jabari Greer downfield look at the 49ers and pick out the few names with Gore Bolden Manningham Vernon Davis is in there those are the primary weapons for Colin Kaepernick his 49er offense is really struggled when Vernon Davis has missed playing time I know Colin Kaepernick's happy to see him in the lineup handoff is Jenkins came up from the safety spot a gain of one third down and long coming up as you look at this much improved Saints defense a group that held the Cowboys to 193 yards last week in addition to that Joe they didn't allow the Cowboys to convert a third down and here to start this game the 49ers are staring at a 39 and a timeout taken by Kaepernick so as colin kaepernick walks to the sidelines realized in while the dallas cowboys didn't convert on third down against the Saints last week the 49ers converted only two of 13 in their 10 to 9 home loss to Carolina so welcome to the booth I'm Joe Buck that's Troy Aikman we'll hear from Pam Oliver a bit later on you know right out of the gate it's San Francisco trying to prove themselves on 39 yeah and the important thing for the 49ers he's just staying ahead of the change they come out the Saints are overloading the Box trying to trying to play the running game of this 49ers team and here the here the 49ers are looking at 39 play clock one just got it away [Applause] the first guy he went over Grier but only got five and it's three and out for the 49ers to start their day well Rob Brian the defensive coordinator he brings pressure on the very first third down of the game and forces Kaepernick to get the ball out of his hands quickly when you do that then defensively you have to be good tacklers and the Saints have been good in that area throughout this season we will punt it Darren Sproles waits deep the best in the game and a positive return after a 55 yard punt of five yards by Scrolls well every week drew brees seems to set a new record here with the st. see what he's done 18 touchdowns to two interceptions here at home as the Saints are five and OH under their dome this season well here he put on a clinic last Sunday night against the Cowboys he was sensational as he has been throughout his time here in New Orleans over 600 yards of offense in that game to tell us the kirtan is coming off his best game on the ground as his Mark Ingram when we see him later Cary's for for Ingram is on the list with Pierre Thomas the two running back scrolls is that third down change of pace back in Jimmy Graham the tight end is getting healthier down that plantar fascitis in his foot he's expected to get more playing time here this afternoon it's picked up really each week since that injury occurred against the New England Patriots second down and six Grahame it depends on the spot as to whether it's a first down or its third ninja's and it's a first down and now the look at the defense for the 49ers they come in 6th best in a league and Eric Reid despite the concussion last week is in their starter this defense to me Joe is going to be the real key for the 49ers they can't afford for this game to turn into a shootout how many people fill up many points against this group [Applause] lost to first guy there was a Montrose defending tomorrow Bowman was in on it as well as the two linebackers combined to stop that play and a loss of two yards those two inside linebackers Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman they're as good as there is in the league and they do a great job both and run defense and excellent cover guys wait listen anger now in the backfield [Applause] and just able to get rid of it under heavy pressure in third and 12 coming up so this is the down really Joe that going to be important for for both groups to see who can win on third down you know we saw that the 49ers were unable to convert on their third and nine and now the 49ers defensively have been able to get the Saints offensively into a long down situation and you know who's going to control this down ultimately is going to determine who wins this game we're going to have to respawn the football as it get kicked back they spotted at the 33 so third down and 12 the Pierre Thomas back in there they move the ball back where it should be so third down and 12 just three men on the Russia breeze looking for somewhere to go with it drops it off that's Thomas and he's wrapped up short of the first down Patrick Willis made this stop a gain of eight fourth down so one first down for the Saints and then the drive stops no three-man rush so you know that Drew Brees is going to have time to try to find the open receiver then it puts pressure on these guys playing coverage to lock on to their guys an excellent job by those eight guys in coverage not allowing the Saints to pick up the first down second weak returning punts for Michael James he waits signals that he stays away throw flag on the play as the ball is tapped down near the 8th a 50-yard punt but flags a throne as LaMichael James came away frustrated he couldn't get to the ball Tony Curran T is our referee today he'll try to sort it out the defending NFC champs are back here in New Orleans the site of their almost come-from-behind victory in Super Bowl xlvii [Applause] first off that's against Cory White and here is why James came away so frustrated as white interfered with James we welcome in a new audience it's a six and three 49ers team taking on a first-place Saints team at seven and two undefeated here at home this season the 49ers went three and out first time they had it Saints got one first down then their drive stalled now it's Kaepernick from the 31 back to the line of scrimmage and we go down to Pamela so Colin Kapernick has been in a very salty mood this week the Niners quarterback told me how much he agrees with his leading wide receiver Anquan Boldin that last week's offense was unacceptable Jim Harbaugh had a talk with his he feels that company pays too much attention to with the pretty good Saints defense Becky Pam thanks rolling to his right it's Kaepernick and the catch made by Gore it will bring up a third down after a gain of six it's been a it's been a tough week for gone Kaepernick there's no question when your offense goes out and fails to score a touchdown in a and there are certain things that Kapernick can do better he can anticipate throws better than he has he can get through some of his reads a little bit quicker know what's know what takes throws away but this group on the outside Joe is not the same group the biggest guy that's missing is Michael Crabtree that was in a lot of ways his security blanket and he took over the starting job last year third down and four out of the shotgun kaepernick that steps and incomplete Cameron Jordan was in that area junior galette as well it's fourth down as this one went off the right arm of Jordan cam Jordan one of those guys who is who has really excelled in Rob Ryan's three-four scheme has played very very well and the Saints defense is one of the best in the league third in the NFL getting off the field on third down it's two possessions beautiful just inside the ten the Bearcats by Darren Sproles no score here early let's take a break Saints haven't we come back actually have a graphic they put on the scoreboard here called fan impact stats and the noise impacting Kaepernick already yeah it's a huge issue here at the Superdome I you know when I played I didn't play in Seattle I thought it was the loudest place to try and play and it certainly affects then what you're doing in terms of changing the play of the line of scrimmage second position for the scenes [Applause] to the 15 again a six merit read on the tackle last week was ridiculous offensively with 625 total yards against the Cowboys and an NFL record forty first downs a lot of best in that game you know he talked about Mark Ingram and the night that he had but Pierre Thomas had hit his best night of the season Marcus Colston and that's happy that's how you go work 625 yards of offense SEC second down the third year back out of Alabama gains to third and short coming up it all revolves around number nine and the precision and what drew brees does every day not just on Sundays or Mondays when they play it's it's impressive a lot of young quarterbacks out there that can learn a lot watching Drew Brees both in game and if you're afforded the opportunity to watch him before a game everything he does Jo is done with purpose and he has some real urgency about him and it carries over into the games he's as good in the pocket as anyone I have ever seen play the position third down and two by Lance Moore had enough for a first down that could not make the catch and this time it's three and out for drew brees in the Saints until if that ball got tipped a little bit or not Joe the buddy came out a little bit funny but the San Francisco now they're able to get off the field as well so the type of game that they are hoping for in being able to contain this explosive Saints offense and they've been able to do it now here on their first two possessions two good punters on display here today with Moore's deadly a line drive putt here a chance for James not across the 40 the 49ers will have a good field position to start this drive as well John return no score in New Orleans third possession for the 49ers under 8 to go opening quarter here in New Orleans they fake it to Hunter Kaepernick with time in the pack knocked away bold in the intended target and the play was made by Keenan Lewis that's a throw that for whatever reason Colin Kaepernick has really struggled with is you're going to see the receiver go to the corner in each of the last three games he's not seen the guy that can really take that throw away and that's the outside corner in this case Keenan Lewis he had an interception last week at the end of the game against Carolina could have had one the previous week against Jacksonville and then throws one into coverage on that flow on second down and 10 Kaepernick he may have been tipped and its third and ten let's go to joel clap with a game breaker Jill let's head up to New York the Giants looking for their fourth victory in a row Eli Manning finds Rueben Randle for the 26 yard TD 7 nothing g-men own the pack Joe back to you in the world Joe banks third down and 10 for the 49ers looking for their first first down now predict incomplete and no flag is thrown John Baldwin looked like he had his jersey grabbed by Jabari Greer and now Greer can't get up see if Greer doesn't get a handful of Jersey we're in man coverage underneath and then certainly the right hand was on the shoulder there John Baldwin yep there's the pull on the Jersey and it's Greer who can't get up they look at him and we'll take a break they're gonna bring out a brace for the left leg of Jabari Greer and it's not a pretty picture the left knee and ankle and so he has not been able to get up since here's what the officiating crew missed was a right hand on the left shoulder and jersey of Baldwin Baldwin who has only three catches this season and now this Saints defense on third down has 15 consecutive stops so Rob Brian's got his group playing well especially on third down as they shut out the Cowboys last week but Rob Brian's defense it looks like is going to be without Jabari Greer for the rest of this day who knows how long nice hand for Jabari Greer points to his teammates on the defense we'll go to Jill Klat with a game break Chile's head down to Miami San Diego cross country trip Antonio Gates five yard TD caps and Phillip Rivers he answered the season seven three chargers and Miami Joe and Troy the Garda career carted off [Applause] there is some looking injuries he came down awkwardly on that left leg and now Andy Lee will punt for the third time Darren Sproles waiting deeper [Applause] [Applause] another high hanging and it's going to be down inside the five great job done downfield by CJ Spillman and then down by Osgood they're gonna mark the ball at the three that's where the Saints haven't no score Andy leaves punt the ball three times down two of them inside the 10 and has an average of just under 55 yards he is a weapon for the 49ers one of the best former all-pro and now Drew Brees has it for the third time no score backed up at his own three you come into a game like this and you talk about the offense of the defense a lot of times the group that really tilts it in one team's favorite special teams an excellent job by CJ Spellman getting to that ball inside the five they faked the toss and hit the full-back Collins and that's well played by Carlos Rogers a gain of two Vic Fangio is the defensive coordinator for the 49ers he was the linebacker coach here in New Orleans 86 to 94 and was the position coach for the dome Patrol Ricky Jackson Pat's willing Sam Mills Vaughn Johnson 18 Pro Bowl nods with that group in all four went great job with this defensive unit spell a lot of time with Dom Capers runs a lot of the same scheme second entity pass is caught flag and the pass caught by Josh Hill back up tight end is the Saints play without Benjamin Watson who suffered a concussion last week completion good for six yards with flags on the play Josh Hill Jo another one of those undrafted free agent finds by Mickey Loomis two gentlemen like they said 94 Justin Smith and guilty of a defensive hold and so an automatic first down I think a lot of these offensive coaches alert the officials prior to the games you know as far as what Justin Smith likes to do he's up at the top of the screen and as he works up the field you see him then get the chip they called him for the hold there on the back until he actually held him but certainly trying to reroute him on his way to the quarterback ready wait listen just outside the 10 last week and then cheering gets a 16-yard run a really nice job on the wham block inside and Mark Ingram finding them the hole to run between the tackles he talked about his night last Sunday night he was sure excited about getting back on the field here today to see if he could follow it up good job inside by that offensive line Chet Collins leads the way you don't get many runs like that against his 49er defense missed five games with a sprained toe lay the second set injuries to both big toes taught by Thomas and Pierre Thomas bends his way out across thirty a gain of five now I had a chance to visit with Mark Ingram on Friday and what a delightful young man he is and was so excited and so happy for his performance the other night and just maybe silence some of the critics for just a little while and he's been through a lot as you said with the injuries he had toe surgery missed five games this year because of this other toe giving him some problems and bills these is healthy right now is he's never been the same so good to see more runs like the one we just saw on second down and five Jimmy Graham third down coming up [Music] Jimmy Graham who suffered a partially torn plantar fashion in his left foot he's been bothered since week six yet he's gets his receiving touchdowns which leads the NFL coming into week 11 [Applause] what's coming that's Meacham and Meacham is down inside the 30 spun out there the 25 by Carlos Rogers and five a completion of 44 yards Beecham's going to line up inside and Terrell brown number 25 is in man coverage and a good route by Robert Meachem he's able to create separation they bring the inside pressure trying to get to Brees balls ball comes out quick and then it's about being able to make a tackle after the catch and Meacham is able to run away and pick up a nice game guy who spent a little over a year in San Diego that didn't work out he's back with the Saints and back in the system with three brazen Chaudhary [Applause] three steps up [Applause] close to the line of scrimmage when he let go of that pass a gain of 8 and now strolls grabs at his left leg I guarantee you the coaches are holding their breath right now when you see Darren Sproles start grasping for his knee this guy is irreplaceable within this offense check him out and see if he's going to be okay but you don't have to tell Saints fans how versatile he is and what exactly he means this team it is think back to 2011 when he sent it NFL this yardage as the as a challenge flag that's been thrown out by the san francisco sideline prior to second down in to play Jim Harbaugh through a challenge one San Francisco is challenging the ruling on the field that the quarterback was not beyond the line of scrimmage at the time he threw the breeze came close when he let going that pass for sprawls on the previous play Bart bomb thinks he was across it both body and ball that's what it has to be we'll get to call him we come back this will go down as a bad challenge by Jim Harbaugh both the body and the ball have to be past the line of scrimmage and clearly neither our that's a clean pass the bigger question is the status of Darren Sproles who went to the sideline grabbin at his knee after that catch here's the call after reviewing the play the ruling on the field is confirmed the quarterback did not go beyond the line of scrimmage therefore guitars with their second time out not only do they lose a time out but they have only one more challenge the rest of the day yeah you're not real sure did you see Jim Harbaugh's reaction you almost thought during commercial break that the people upstairs who got to look at it done a radio down to him that hey we got no chance of winning this because you could see the look on his face but you're right there's no chance whatsoever event be over everyone not to four five on challenges this season is to touch here Thomas has a sink first down when you think about this drive Joe that started on the Saints three yard line they got the run by Mark Ingram and then they converted on the third down the Robert Meachem and those were the two big plays on this drive and you get a chance to get off the field on third down you convert offensively keeps the drive alive this is a heck of the drive right now for the Saints team as good as this 49er defense is they are tied for 28th inside the redzone 74% listen on first down breeze [Music] tackle immediately Thomas made the catch Willis made the tackle they're looking at the fade route to Jimmy Graham and everyone knows that he's got basketball in his background and because he said earlier ten touchdowns he's such a big target and go up and make the catch now that he's healthier than he's been but breeze wisely comes off at the forty niners doubled him on the outside second and seven [Applause] that's Thomas he's down to the five this becomes an interesting call here for Sean Payton when you see that they don't have to score a touchdown here they just need two yards to pick up a fresh set of downs and you know do they run it here or do they keep the ball then Andrew breezes hands they've had some success as we've seen on this Drive running the ball in between the tackles test play this Drive [Applause] wait [Applause] depends on where they mark [Applause] that's enough for a first down as Jimmy Graham just did pick it up first guy though short as this throw is the ball really needs to be in a perfect location to allow Jimmy Graham to make the catch and then turn up the fielding and be able to pick up this first down and you're going to see where the ball is by Drew Brees it's a good job and it's actually a nice job by Carlos Rogers against a big receiver making a tackle not before he's able to get the first down to breeze keeps it close it for the touchdown that's Hill hits first Josh Hill a little bit earlier getting the playing time because of Ben Watson being down he's in protection but then you count and you go to the flat so he's the outlet for Drew Brees if he doesn't like what's down the field that is his check down he then comes underneath knows exactly where Hills going to be perfect execution seven to nothing New Orleans as the Saints March 97 yards a season long for the first points of the day another touchdown pass Brees number 350 coming in the 49er defense had allowed an average of 12 points per game over their last six and just eight offensive touchdowns allowed it's an 11-play drive covering 97 yards and a touchdown pass first touchdown in the NFL for Josh Hill and gets the playing time with Benjamin Watson out with a concussion and it's seven to nothing Saints with 44 seconds alive in the first quarter 20 and why don't we look at the playoff picture here in week 11 got the division leaders on your left and they're seated that way then in the wild card and in the hunt you can throw a blanket over all those teams it's just so jumbled but right now it's Carolina winners of five in a row they take on the Patriots next in San Francisco at six and three an important ballgame for San Francisco for a lot of reasons as a wild-card team as you see and then also when they're already two and a half games behind within their divisional race mr. Frank Gore on first down gets four for an injury update down to Pam well Joe Saints quarterback Tavares suffered a knee injury we don't know the severity of it when three years will not return meantime Darren Sproles into his right ankle the training center second down and six Kaepernick keeps it 5-4 third down coming up it's a seven to nothing game at the end of one here in New Orleans Fox NFL Sunday returns after these messages and a word from your local Fox station sprawls is trying to get loose over on the sideline for the Saints meanwhile before for their first purse down there down in floor pass is caught for a first down that foldable and then Quan Bolton good for seven well that was an important third down conversion for San Francisco after going three and out on their first three possessions and the defense giving up a 97 yard drive needed to be able to give them a rest and Quan Baldwin worked in the slot creates enough separation from David Hawthorne for the first down forty-niners now have sixty-two receptions by their wide receivers this season which is the fewest in the NFL Oldham picks up the first down and now the cost of hunter running left cuts up field than a nice gain on first down of six let's go to Curt Menefee with a game breaker but for different reasons Saints and 49ers fans keeping an eye on Seattle both were like when they see here in Minnesota's Christian Ponder hooking up with Darius Wright 38-yard touchdown ties the game at ten in the second quarter joiwind been hurt so we'll keep you updated on that if you look at the NFC West in Seattle on top at nine and second down and four [Applause] Francoeur gets a couple no Joe you talk about the inability to get the ball to the wide receivers for the 49ers I mentioned earlier just how significant that loss is Michael Crabtree you know there's two guys getting the ball in this offense Antwon Bolden and Vernon Davis and then Davis has been down then they lose their deep threat I've always felt here is good offensively as your third wide receiver for the 49ers their third leading white their third leading receiver is pulled back Bruce Miller that kind of tells you how challenging it's been for Colin Kaepernick third down and three etosha hunter running picks it up to break a tackle and he got out of the arms of hawthorn and got five yards and a first down you know they break Joe Staley out to lead the way and he's an athletic left tackle but he doesn't get the block on Hawthorne the way that he would have liked and so it was really Kendall Hunter having to do it alone and make him miss and he was able to to pick up the first down on first down quick Vernon Davis is wrapped up shy of midfield got for Raphael Busch he makes the start today in place of the injured Kenny Vaccaro who's out with his second concussion both rookie safeties two concussions over their first nine regular season games and pretty interesting that most any Vacarro pretty interesting that the Saints ruled him out early in the week after his second concussion [Applause] second and six [Music] not about short of a first down Hawthorne forced him out again afore this is some of the stuff that when people look at Colin Kapernick as to how well he's playing he's got one on one on the outside and Fon Bolden and sometimes he does hang with receivers a little too long away and howdy have been able to get out to Bouldin as quickly as he should have pretty easy completion and for him but instead Kapernick tention still gets it well to the and now faces curtain two hand off and the chains won't pick it up no gain and a stop by the Saints on third down Hicks and Bunkley made the play up front for Rob Ryan Saints defense Keene Hicks he's a load here in the middle and the job that he does have getting right in there and putting a hit it's a great job on him on a short yardage play last week the 49ers had some problems converting third and short early in that game came back to haunt him this time the Saints for LaMichael James first carry of the day Ladd's more and the 49ers will take over bentrim recovered as Lance Moore is in there because of the injury to Darren Sproles and it's a gift for San Francisco from Lance Moore in the Saints inside the 15 they'll market just outside the 11 will you think of this punt team last time they were able to pin the Saints inside the 5-yard line and this time with the punt Lance Moore he fumbles it and the 49ers were able to recover and now here they are inside the 15 now the Saints last week were faced with a similar situation against the Cowboys held him to a field goal they're hoping to be able to do that here my action from Kaepernick endzone Baldwin incomplete the ball was not secured by Baldwin and you could see the official watching this catch all the way to the ground and we'll see if it comes loose well he has it there and then he's dragging his feet and he's got to control it all the way down the rifle fishel was right on top of it that's where it comes loose official he's he's right on top of it Joe looking at the play remember the 49ers have only one challenge left hardball had it in his hand and now he's trying to get help from upstairs the play clock was winding down and Harbaugh is going to challenge the call there is no family again the San Francisco and this year the challenge will get the call on this 49er Challenge when we come back we'll go right to Mike Pereira our rules expert what you see from La John Baldwin did everything right until the last part of it he got control then you're gonna see that he actually does get two feet down drags the toe but he's going to the ground this is the process now the ball comes loose when he's actually touching out-of-bounds that makes it an incomplete pass he had to maintain that control so either way Jim Harbaugh is going to be out of challenges but it certainly appears that that will stay with the call on the field the official was right there looking at it all the way stayed with the catch then made the call of incomplete but a challenge done the last and Jim Harbaugh with 10 21 left in the first half is out of challenges will get the call from Tony currently we anticipate the call wills after is going to play Cisco receiver was going to the ground to complete the catch and bobbled the ball hold on the ground there for San Francisco for a head coach who's in control seemingly of so much to have the challenges he has had to put himself in the position now where he is out of challenges that's surprising to me as a tough one and John Baldwin who hasn't caught a ball in a month as Mike prayer said did everything right but as his right elbow came to the ground it jarred the ball loose and a missed opportunity for the 49ers San Francisco also out of timeouts second and ten quick throw pansies [Applause] and for golden that's his third of the season and common completes for his tenth touchdown throw of the year well Cory why he's in the game with Jabari Greer being down in a perfectly thrown ball by Colin Kaepernick the Anquan Boldin you're gonna see good coverage over the top he's he's guarding against the fade turns around to play the ball they throw the back fade back shoulder fade excellent throw excellent catch and so the 49ers who are ninth and takeaways but lead the NFL takeaways now gets seven more and have 95 points on takeaways this season to lead the league above punt then the touchdown and we're 7-7 here in the dome sixty first career touchdown catch for Anquan Boldin so more points off turnovers and it came after the muffed punt by Lance Moore they'll take a knee and in a 7-7 game the Saints will start with it at their twenty bucks tonight the next evolution of top drama is here don't miss the groundbreaking show that has critics braving almost human two-night premiere starts tonight 8:00 Eastern 7:00 central on Fox [Applause] these guys take their football seriously big night for almost-human tonight tonight and tomorrow night and honored to have a couple of guys here with us is breeze backstitch makes the catch time the Saints habit they win 97 yards for a touchdown that was capped on the throat of Josh Hill that was the longest possession 97 yard drive 29er defense is allowed at 184 games his defense for the 49ers has been good and good for a long time as we face a second and five now they have and you know but when you face the type of players at the Saints hat that's why it was important for the offense to do something which they did got his hand in there and broke it up intended for Jimmy Graham third and five you see Jimmy Graham with a free release off the ball and he got to then be able to attack the ball in the air and Dante Whitner he does that he's as good a safety as there is in football and does a nice job making a play on it he and Brooks as you talked about earlier last November when these two teams met here in Louisiana had an interception return for a touchdown first of the half for the Saints UC San Francisco defensively give a little bit different look as three-man rush and you see the Saints as Drew Brees tries to get them lined up and change the play just realize hey you know what it's better just to call a timeout down regroup talk about good combinations in this game whether it's a quarterback in a tight end or a quarterback and a receiver how about from the sideline to the quarterback in the combination that exists here between Sean Payton I think you believe the best play caller in the game and his quarterback Drew Brees and what they've been able to do in their 8 years together well there's no question that those two guys are in sync you know as far as what's coming in from the sidelines does not cool drew brees they're on the same page Bree shakes off the sick kinetics tipped into the air and incomplete as intended for Colston and it went off the hand of the rookie Eric Reid able to get some pressure on Drew Brees from the inside Justin Smith he stands up you see the job that he does keeping the play alive and coming up the middle and just good coverage on the other end he's 97 yard dry that's not easy to do is an impressive Drive and you see how difficult some of these types of plays are to make against this defense good play by Eric green first round pick the safety out of 50 tickets purchased [Music] viola Michael James after a 59-yard punt good for 10 yards 49ers will have it back to work Kaepernick tied at 7 his game on Fox is sponsored by Chevrolet find new roads forty-niners seven in a tie game you look at the Philadelphia Eagles Chip Kelly getting his first home win Nick Foles the fleet-footed Nick pulls 47 rush yards and a rushing touchdown [Applause] the Eagles now we're in the 10th spot and over 500 in the NFC East here's bottled up in the back fear the loss of four on first down and back to the NFC East it's Philly on top well a nice win by the Philadelphia Eagles as we saw Nick Foles yet to throw an interception and now they take the lead within the division and they've they get their buying next week so they're going to change a little bit healthier the Cowboys are all here today but that division is shaping up with the Giants at Division although not real good football is they pretty competitive second down at 14 Nik doesn't have attire Lag for delay of game crowd noises submarine company Derrick carrier a tight end that was just activated off the practice squad was in and out confused on the play carrier that Kaepernick's Jelena the guy who spent part of last year with both Oakland and Philadelphia he just didn't get lined up to me Joe I don't think Kaepernick was trying to change the play that was called on second and night [Applause] the Whoopie Vance McDonald to make third down a little more manageable again attend Vance McDonald he's got of playing time this year's had to do a lot of different things last week especially with Vernon Davis going down and Garrett Selleck as well you can see how loud it is with Kaepernick trying to even make the calls in the huddle third down and nine passcode man made depends on the spot tackle made by Chris car and you can see the official walking in right on the line if you believe the line that's a first down and Tony corrente says so you see the natural pick action that happens in order to get Maddie hand underneath that on the slant route to pick up that first down Chris car was in coverage he had to bubble over [Applause] and this time loses er junior galette was the first guy in there well Rob Ryan is overloading the front to stop the run he comes into this game knowing full well what the 49ers want to do they want to run the football they want to control the time of possession keep their own offense over on the sidelines the 49ers have to be able to make plays in the passing game and take advantage of some of the looks that the Saints are given [Applause] two yards who carries so far and a half on second down interception turning white Kaepernick trying to knock him out of bound [Applause] and they're gonna mark him at the one now the referee comes in the ball was lost out of the back of the end zone and let's get the call from Tony Parenti and through the end zone therefore it is a test back Santa's clothes football first now let's take another look they're saying because Cory White lost control of the ball out of the back of the end zone it's a touchback this is a turnover play so it's reviewed automatically and you can see he's losing it well before getting to the goal line right there yeah I thought he'd lost it as he just tried to extend it but it was coming out of his hands before that Joe and if you only hope that the Saints have that they can determine whether he was out of bounds that foot looks close along the sidelines I don't think that he was Jim Hartman is being reviewed upstairs right away a turnover plane so it's reviewed automatically and it looks like the call on the field was a good one [Applause] Sean Payton's trying to come up with something to say but now he's going to call timeout just to make sure everybody gets it clean look at that play but it looked like the proper call we'll take a break and we'll give it another look get the call when we come back a lot to look at Mike Pereira on what is going on under the hood what is Tony currently looking at at the end of this play well I think the easy one is what happened in the goal line the hardest one is when Cory White intercepts the ball watch the helmet contact there with a helmet on the body if that helmet contact occurred after the control of the intersection then he's down by contact there so that's that's two things that Tony's got to look at but he's first got to establish whether or not that the that the intercepting player was down by contact if not then it's a clear touch back yeah you can see that it is clear out of that I think the interesting part you bring up is does the contact happen before or after Cory white secures the catch on the interception that that's the toughest part of us yeah and and and that's this whole notion of down by contact is that if there is control and then contact now remember they ruled that there wasn't so they've got to prove this now they've got to prove that the in fact there was that control before the contact but you know I think it's one of these that when you're gonna take a look at he's got 60 seconds to make this decision and he would have looked at this down by contact portion first so the one thing you can clearly say is there was contact the helmet on the shoulder and you also got control there as the runner goes to the ground so or the intercepting player goes to the ground tight play if I got to make the decision of my own you know it looks to me like he would be down by contact will get the call right now thanks Mike Tony Curran tee it's up to him making the long walk out to his spot here we go after reviewing the play the rulings on the field stand as a touchback the timeout by New Orleans his charges in the curve new process being initiated so that's what Sean Payton wanted he wanted to call the timeout give the officials more time to look at the play and I think again what Mike Ferrara said when the interception was secured contact had already happened then when white pops up and goes to the endzone loses it out of the back of the endzone the 49ers get for summer down play made by Hicks just nowhere for Colin Kapernick to go with the football they're trying to take a shot down the field to claim an as Rob Ryan has been calling for much of this first half taking a look at what Colin Kaepernick sees Bruce Miller trying to go to the corner they got to go round on the outside and just nothing there and then at the end of this play Hicks comes in looks like you've got a thanks master ding dip ball seconds hat forehead second and 11 [Applause] up until now not across the 40 Raffaele bush on the stop and a carry of 24 yards job inside again fullback Bruce Miller than Jonathan Goodwin he's going to pull out as well and help lead the way and not a lot of space initially but Frank wore he's able to get him behind those blockers very patient as a runner and I think really one of the more underrated players in this league I think he's just a great great football player where's gain of 20 or more yards for San Francisco offensively in 83 players very good for 24 space for Kaepernick in the pass incomplete but a flag flies at the end Manningham the intended target and Cory White was the one who had the interception then the fumble back through the end zone was defending well Cory White he's sitting on the route he was cluing in on the interception sat on that route I would expect the 49ers there at a double move on him [Applause] contact through the back of Manningham and white and just had his first interception of the season within lost control of the football going to the endzone guilty of the foul and it's a first and ten for the 49ers at the New Orleans 45 [Applause] with a Joel clap with a game break Jill let's go to Seattle percy harvin on the field for the first time this year after that hit surgery this is his first catch looks pretty athletic to me later in the drive Marshawn Lynch 1 yard touchdown and the Seahawks are up on the Vikings by 4 1713 back to New Orleans Joe Detroit thanks John back-to-back weeks against st. Louis and Tampa Bay where against the bike man second and seven Kaepernick's gonna run short of the first down inside the 42 carry of five yards third and tooth coming up a good job by Colin Kapernick you know a lot of discussion about why they're not running more of the read option and you know they ran it last year but they only ran it last year when Alex Smith was the starter and then they would bring tapper Nick in look pretty much clear on the Shelf when he became the starter and tell the playoffs third down and two McDonald the intended target Jenkins on the coverage and it's fourth down Vance McDonald again he's the rookie tight end and they're expecting the quick pass and you know just not much separation there for Colin Kaepernick but that's a route that he has to win and give Kaepernick a better place to throw the football in a controlled atmosphere under the dome it's Dawson who will try from 55 he had no trouble hitting from this spot during the pregame one shot of this if he hits it got it to put San Francisco on top a 55 yard field goal the 15 year Pro out of Texas that snap hold and good and that's a 10-point swing Joe from where the Saints thought they were going in for the touchdown off the interception from Cory White the touch back and the sink or excuse me the 49ers come down and get three points of the wrong on a 55 yarder Dawson is now 13 of 16 on the year with 334 remaining and only one timeout on the scoreboard the Saints now down by three we'll get it back tonight join Jay and down on Fox Sports live for all the scores and highlights from a full day of action around the world of sports NFL updated BCS rankings and results in the first full week at the college basketball season tonight at 11:00 Eastern only on Fox Sports 1 the fine Fox Sports 1 on your provider go to fox sports 1.com right now and zone that's cadet stays in bounds until now by number 39 82 yards for traverse cadet special teams having a roll in this ball game for both teams Jabbar's cadet he takes the kickoff and he's able to get to the left boundary and shows off some of his speed a great return setting up this Saints offense Dawson could not force him out [Applause] play was made by tramaine Brock to save the touchdown and the ball sits at the 49 or 21 ball controlled this border lady dominated by San Francisco chase gas passes that's beer Thomas and he's brought down right at the marker a gain of 10 pressure by dance CUDA they get pressure on breeze but the Saints are just so good they really make you defend the entire field is they go play-action to Pierre Thomas they leak him into the flat you start worrying about these other guys up the field particularly Jimmy Graham and others and then you've got a guy like Pierre Thomas who's very good out of the backfield [Applause] ready [Applause] and a first and goal from inches away coming up for the Saints they bring in their heavy group Tim Alito the extra lineman is a fullback and he helps try to lead the way see them there number 68 and in behind Jett Collins it's an excellent job upfront given Pierre Thomas a nice running lane came close to his second rushing touchdown of the season Terrell Brown is down and getting looked at [Applause] it was in on that tackle meanwhile Carolina the team chasing the Saints winners of five straight in Carolina will have a date coming up at home against New England on Monday night yeah I think the game that really legitimized this team was last week's win at San Francisco you know the way they were able to win in a low-scoring defensive battle that's what's carried this team but you know they get to kind of further along here in a tough game at home against the New England Patriots but that defense is legit they have played awfully well all year talk about a front seven that front seven for Ron Rivera who's first persevered as the head coach there is as good as you'll find anywhere and what looked to be a run away for the New Orleans Saints in the division is not going to be that no when the gate when the season started you know in September you thought okay the Saints are going to wrap up this division by Thanksgiving and Carolina then started stringing those wins together and has kept the heat on this Saints team and I think that's probably a good thing that the Saints you know will continue to be challenged within their division and keep their foot on the pedal while they continue to look at the injured player Terrell brown we will check in with Joe clock and Joe a team that San Francisco needs to keep pace with Seattle after a 58-yard returned by Percy Harvin to set him up in good field position Doug Baldwin great catch 19 yards the touchdown from Russell Wilson 24:13 Seahawks over the Vikings back to New Orleans Joe and Troy yeah and when you look at Seattle obviously the 49ers worry about Seattle and where they sit with only one loss at nine and one the New Orleans Saints right now the number-two seed in the NFC and the Saints have a game coming up at Seattle in two weeks good to see Brown able to be pulled up he was in on that tackle of Pierre Thomas and brown as at least in a seated position but obviously taking their time to make sure he is good enough to get up and get assistance to get off the field he's down on the ground as you can see and you see that knee hit Brown in the back right there and they're going to bring the card out for him but he's up and seated Brown playing well one of the guys that Sean Payton talked about about how well he's played for San Francisco this season does not have an interception but good corner in this league you just hate to see as we've seen already a couple of times in this game Joe you just hate when they bring out the cart to get an injured player off the player off the field is just never a good thing 49ers have all ten of their points off turnovers in this game they lead by three but the Saints are set up for the first and goal inside the one as Brown is carted away the 221 remaining in the first half at only one timeout between the two teams and the Saints happen this was a big drive for the Saints you know I mean considering the fact that the 49ers were able to go down with the field goal and and gain the lead and then with the big return by true Baris cadet the Saints are able to come away with a touchdown here and then you know put their defense back out in the field the 49ers will have time to come away with points of their own two minutes left opening half here in New Orleans take a break come back before a first and goal for the Saints Mark Ingram in the lineup on first and goal from inside the 1 for the touchdown could that set it up with the 82-yard return and Jed Collins has his first rushing touchdown of the season you don't get many opportunities when you're a fullback in this leg just as six carry of the season you got to make them count there that time you get your number called get yourself a touchdown third career rushing touchdown for Collins first of the year and six lead by four [Applause] big special teams plays throughout this first half and it was cadet who win 82 yards on the kick returned to set it up after a 55 yard field goal bata 49ers and remember the month hunts that set the 49ers up at the 11 for their first score of the day and the touchdown to Collins just plows it in for one yard away well as you said cadets set it up but the Saints offensively being able to finish it off with a touchdown to regain the lead now with just under two minutes to play plenty of time even though the 49ers do not have any timeouts left to do something here before the end of the half it was a year ago at this time week 11 a colin kaepernick took over as the starter with the San Francisco 49ers it was a home game against Chicago and then Jim Harbaugh Troy had the decision the next week in a game here in New Orleans he went with Kaepernick Kaepernick got him to the Superbowl this doesn't look like the same attack for the 49ers offensively in Kaepernick under scrutiny all week yeah well you know things went well for Colin Kaepernick last year when he took over as a starter and this year he has faced a little more adversity there's been some who have questioned his play some of that I think is fair but I think by and large since you said the players around him it's been a different cast and what he's got on the outside let's check in with Curt and see what's coming up at halftime coming up on the Visa halftime we'll get you caught up on an action-packed Sunday Nick Foles have the eagles soaring for their third straight win the Bengals stay perched atop the AFC North Plus Terry how are you Michael and his own plane maybe not her the de few of almost two months and I remote control action for Terry Bradshaw studio now a minute 58 left in the half no timeouts Kaepernick it's changed makes one man miss block whines again a four that's the Michael James just those are the things you got to know you gotta know situation you had a chance to pick up whatever yard is he couldn't get out of bounds and a lot of time comes when you get tackled inbound second down and six [Applause] first down Holden and Frank one golden that's Catch number three good for 80 ours Vernon Davis right here in the slot is the guy because as I said he's a fastest player on the field for the second we picked off Chris car got his arms on it couldn't secure it second intent those dangerous look like so you stopped on the routes you're not bold and you know tap earnest Kaepernick is expecting him to keep going and when you pull up on that throw bad things generally happened and had an opportunity for an interception longest path player than half touchdown nothing with success downfield brought down by Jordan so we saw what happened last week against Dallas and the Saints ability to come away with a touchdown that really kind of put the game away for the same Sunday night and now because the 49ers are not doing much on this particular Drive the Saints they call timeout here hoping that they can get one more shot before this half ends that sack number seven for Cameron Jordan damn Jordan has had himself a nice first half as Troy said Saints used their last timeout think for a stop on third to get it back I've got to believe that they're going to run the ball here and run this clock down as far as they can go and not try to pick up the first down on third and 12 James in the backfield Carrie wrapped up after getting hit hard at the 35 a gain of six and the clock will wind down on fourth down now they'll be under ten seconds by the time that the Saints are able to get the ball if there's any kind of return likely this house can [Music] so the punt from Andy Lee is at seven Lance Moore is back again he's loved one Niners take the 5-yard penalty for delay of game for town we'll see how Andy Lee wants to approach this is number six in the NFL and net punting yardage I would think it's something out-of-bounds trying to avoid some big return he hangs in high the return is wrapped up immediately well played downfield and it was Osgood on the tackle and now just two seconds remain in the half on a day where there was a weather delay in Chicago here in week 11 we go back to Super Bowl xlvii here in New Orleans delayed by a power outage for 34 minutes the cause of the delay was device called a relay which was installed to protect the doll from the cable failure between the outside incoming power line and lines that run into the stadium the device has since been replaced and we have had no interruption on America's game of the week a four-point game 14 to 10 Saints on top curtain the guys hanging out in LA ready to go to work on the visa halftime starts now this came to the wink about to start the second half you can follow your favorite team all season long go to itunes dot-com / NFL Saints we'll start the second half after deferring in the first half Saints will have the ball to begin this third quarter group rays will head back to work he has now 350 career touchdown passes and 270 in his 8 years here in New Orleans and it is the most ever over an 8-year span by any quarterback in the history of this league [Applause] to the end zone cadet will chickeny and down to the field here's Pam well Joe homely to talk with the 49ers offensively was positive plays there were too many of those in the first half still Jim Harbaugh told me he was very pleased with this quarterback saying that he made some really good throws for the Saints Sean Payton told me that he was also pleased with their first half he likes how his team physically responded to the matchups on both sides of the ball injury-wise Darren Sproles he's got an ankle we will see him in a limited role Terrell brown has a rib contusion for the 49ers and he's questionable Becky oh hi Pam thank you starting at the 20 are the Saints up by four and the handoff is too Ingram's going to lose yard first guy there Justin Smith big number 94 can still play for the 49ers he is a load second and 11 coming up both of these defenses Joe in that first half actually played pretty well you know especially this 49ers defenses special teams obviously played a role in that first half along with the turnovers but to be able to hold the Saints down compared to the way that they go up and down the field on most teams they play to actually get a pretty good job in the lineup he's in the slot Brees look number 43 good for eight you talk about drew brees and his numbers and what he's been able to do and you know here he is in his thirteenth season I asked him the other day Jill I said hey you know you think you have at least five years left in you and he said I absolutely do you know he feels good that would put him into 18 seasons and you know I've always maintained who especially with the protection of these guys then we're going to see more and more quarterbacks playing until they're 40 years old I'll turn down a three Jimmy's got a first down for the seats 13 yards on third and three it's just a hard route to cover like Patrick Willis was the guy who's trying to pick him up as he's coming across the middle and Jimmy Graham starts to set it down like that's where he's going to be and then Willis comes up to make a play and then you've run away from it they call it a jerk route there in the middle and Jimmy Graham is able to create the separation for the first down takes it up to the 40 like five three ready wait a sec is protected goes for the big deep throne Graham who can't make the connection they had a chance to they had it set up perfectly he starts as though he's going to go to the corner and then he's up the scene breeze leads him a little bit too much inside and breeze knew exactly what he had when the ball was snapped had the match up and you just don't see these two guys not connect when they have that kind of opportunity he leads them into the safety and Jimmy Graham knows exactly what's coming his way that's Eric Reed the rookie throws the 45 that's beer Thomas good for six it's finally over in Chicago here's Joel clapping that's right Joe second possession of overtime and the Bears Robbie Gould 38 yards for the win the Bears keep pace with Detroit they're six and four the Super Bowl champs fall to four and six back to New Orleans Joe and Troy yeah so Detroit loses their six and four Chicago wins their six and four Green Bay's playing in Jersey loses 13 to 6 Gillian's [Applause] the float sentence picked off intercepted by Brooks gets back on top of it trying to float it over the head of number 55 and Brooks who got Brees last year for pick six up to get it Wow they go in a two-man route they block everything up at the 49ers don't bring the pressure so they're playing coverage outstanding coverage but it affords Drew Brees all kinds of time in the pocket we saw miss Jimmy Graham earlier that would have been a big play and just a big mistake by Drew Brees [Music] well Ahmad Brooks is counting the guided you could forget about with his linebacking core with Alden Smith Patrick Willis Navarro Ballman but Brooks came in as their top sack man and number 55 is a terrific player good athlete as he just showed and it's the third Saints turnover of the game [Applause] getting to the edge in Frank Gore with a nice carry on the first play from scrimmage of this second half picked up 11 he talked about Ahmad Brooks and he was already on the roster when Jim Harbaugh came and brought in Vic Fangio their defensive coordinator and he hadn't really done much yet though and Fangio told him he says hey I'm gonna resuscitate your career you just do as you're told within this scheme and he has been lights out the last three years since Vic Fangio took over and you're right he's been the guy who's been overlooked he's getting more attention this year because of the sacks but he makes a big play on that last the backfield fire the snap they just get it away in the hand off to Hunter and Hunter is dragged down by Hawthorn a loss of five good job by Hawthorn getting penetration and then being able to make the tackle in the backfield Kendall Hunter just never is able to get anything going he's got blockers out in front of him but you potty the left guard he overruns it Hawthorn is there to make the play look at this going on a late flag was thrown after the play was made here's the call there's an illegal formation on the offense number 67 reporter his ineligible receiver however he was covered up this penalty will be declined the results of the play second down I'm sure love to meet Joe like like that was designed all that activity there in the backfield was something that they have worked on this week offensive coordinator Greg Roman but then they don't get it here he is on the line of scrimmage he's an eligible receiver that means burning Davis has to be off the line of scrimmage himself so second down and 15 after the interception by crooks turning out to his right stops groans Davis touchdown [Applause] and the 49ers get back on top as Vernon Davis has his eighth of the season and the interception by Brooks will Malcolm Jenkins he's missed the last two games he's playing today and he gets you see him here in the middle of the field he sees the activity in the backfield in that action he's thinking run he comes up Davis then able to get in behind him for the touchdown see Davis is trying to sell Ron he's acting as though he's going to block a linebacker and sells it enough touchdown there was a lot of uncertainty with Vernon Davis coming off the concussion that he suffered last week against Carolina capelin last December in Seattle well he's active he's into the end zone after the pick by Ahmad Brooks and the Niners lead by three Saints have turned it over a season-high three times in this game in all 17 49ers points have come off those turnovers 17 yard touchdown catch for Vernon Davis and it's a three point San Francisco lead I'm on drugs made it happen with his hands with his leaping ability and Rob Brian not too happy hair flying down by three in Louisiana we saw Rob Brian going to break we look at the great buddy Ryan he was on the staff the super bowl-winning New York Jets Super Bowl three was with them in the late 60's to the mid 70s and the Bears the defensive coordinator won Super Bowl 20 Philadelphia Eagles head coach mr. a Clinton from 1986 through 1990 and then the Oilers defensive coordinator and the proud father of paternal twins Robin Rex starting at the 20 handoff is to Thomas [Applause] you talk about Buddy Ryan he truly was a pioneer you know I mean he changed the game of football defensively and a lot of the things that are happening in the game today are a result of what he did and what he came up with the 46 defense with the Chicago Bears there in 85 and Rob Ryan he has said that the man who has taught him more football buddy else's his father buddy Ronnie introduced such great speed to his defense 46 [Applause] were squared off again another is here in New Orleans this Nicktoons has his first catch good for eight third down coming up and we saw Rob Ryan as we went to break and the look on his face and it was discussed because there's only two guys on this 49ers team that have caught touchdown passes Antwon Bolden and Vernon Davis so when they get to that into the field I can assure you that Rob Ryan has been telling his guys all week long we have to stay with Vernon Davis and yet he was still able to be there behind the defense for the touchdown the two handoff is two Scrolls got a first down but a flag is thrown [Applause] Darren Sproles bad ankle and all pulled it up offense number 66 10-yard penalty repeat cleared out begin left guard been grubs for a hold on third and two Ben grubs and left guard and he's the one who they they got for the hold as you see he gets certainly gets a hold on DeMarcus Dobbs there and this offensive line last week really played well you know and that went over the Cowboys after coming off a very frustrating loss against the Jets they were challenged and they certainly rose to that occasion and they got their hands full though with this defensive front on the 49 now third down and 12 Ray's trying Boston for the first down Marques Colston coming off his best game of the season here against the Cowboys good 4:14 it's a really nice job of converting here on third down you know momentum had shifted the 49 are starting to feel pretty good about the way this game was going and third and long and Brees is able to connect with Marcus Colston and now nine different receivers is Marcus Colston is now first all-time for the same foo in catches receiving yardage and receiving touchdowns lady what Sutton's he passes Eric Martin with that catch [Applause] the backfield he gets hit by bowmen again afore go I remember talking to Sean Payton in the offseason back in oh six and he was telling me then that he had a seventh-round wide receiver had a Hofstra that he really felt was going to go on and be a great player for this team and it was Marcus Colston you just called it being the all-time receiving yardage leader for the New Orleans Saints he's had a ton of great to the rear seventh round pick - plates to a bunny yard shot first down you could see it in his eyes when we sat down with him on Friday that after that big game last week career-high 145 yards against Dallas was booed early he is charged up a tough runner and his feeling as you said earlier really good health-wise for the first time in a while yeah he is and what's hard for the Saints is that they've got so many backs that you're not able to really feature one guy you know I think that's the type of back that Ingram wants to be in fact John Payton loves a guy who's in active today khiry Robinson another undrafted player and he can't even get him on the field because he can't even get him to suit up they're so deep at that positions four-time Pro Bowl right guard Jerry Evans limped off after that play by Ingram there's the day last week is only rushing touchdown of the season missed five games with a right toe injury had surgery on his left big toe the end of his rookie year you soon will how do you follow it up we go for a birdie and then the next tool you try and validate it he goes I don't want to birdie double bogey which is what he said he typically comes up with in the other sport they're down in inches so first down that Collin's close it in on a career-high carries in this game you already got the touchdown earlier they go to him here on third and children you know Ingram's going to be no he's having a hard enough time fight for carries with tailbacks they start giving it to the full-back then it slow it's really going to get reduced so first down for the Saints down by three by two already awaiting the lady ready 95 stills and the rookie Kenny Stills is going to have enough with forward progress for first down now watch Drew Brees in warm-ups and you know these are the types of things that he works on all the time the timing you know not a difficult thrown out a difficult route but just being able to step up turn it loose before the guy comes out of his break Kenny steals a young receiver who's getting a lot of playing time for such a young guy and you know speaking of what Sean Payton said about marques colston seven years ago he's saying the same things about Kenny Stills they love this kid and feel he's going to be a real superstar [Applause] [Music] his Lance Moore has dropped by Rodgers gain of just two Kenny Stills 21 year old rookie out of Oklahoma came out after his junior year and that's his look here in week 11 I don't know what to say about that Joe and I asked Shawn why he fell to the fifth round because they liked him so much and he was accomplished there at Oklahoma and he didn't really know why either I don't know about the haircut a second down and eight find somewhere to go and it passes caught by sprawls and tackle immediately by dance kuda and the jury was out for scooter who injured his left foot last week but able to go today scooter came off his best game he got a lot of playing time on early downs because of alden smith missing those five games and last week he was all over the place he got injured you know he was banged up during the week in fact Vic Fangio said that if you know if they were on a short week and having to turn around play on Thursday night he probably would have been third down here [Applause] Smith was breathing down his neck and it's incomplete to bring up fourth down we'll see what Sean Payton wants to do here on fourth and for the ball is at the 40 and it appears that the Saints will bill for New Orleans this year on 4th bound for for 8 [Applause] crowd likes it Sean Payton drew brees [Applause] 50 chance of and he's down a distances [Applause] a good play defensively Josh Hill the intended target dante Whitner was there for san francisco and it's a turnover on downs so the Saints go for it Whitner willis combined to make the play the 49ers have the ball up by three dante Whitner Pro Bowler last year combining with Patrick Willis to help make that stop on fourth down one of the reasons why Rob Ryan probably frustrated as well the 49ers two touchdown drives have gone a combined 33 yards turnovers have really hurt the Saints and this week 11 matchup handoff immediately and after that play on fourth down here's Jim Harbaugh over to the bench to congratulate the defense that was a good stop you know I mean offensively the Saints were rolling in the defense being able to get off the field on fourth down and we've seen a number of guys go down in this ballgame and you know you potty who was banged up last week there were some questions as to whether or not he'd be able to go this week he's the one on the ground and you can see why it was the leg of gore that came in you potties been dealing with a bad left knee it's a left knee ankle that took the brunt of that from Frank Gore live shot of Mikey potty coming off the field damn Jordan who has been lined up against him a fair amount today and coming into the ballgame he said you potties the strongest guy he faces during his season when the 49ers were on their schedule it's a big flow now Adam Snyder he comes in and left guard remember he was with the 49ers a few years ago he was the starting right guard Alex Boone took his place when he left to go to the Cardinals now he's back in the lineup he takes over for you potty on second and ten four-man rush panis clock Davis was a touchdown in this game forward progress good for seven third down coming up well we've seen how the running game the 49ers have actually been pretty good for no more than they've been able to get out of their passing game but they have not been able to stretch the field at all in this game they have yet to complete a pass for 20 yards or more and so you're starting to see more and more of this Saints defense plant down on these receivers and at some point they got to get them off San Francisco three of nine on third down extra men on the rush kaepernick fires and Quan Goldman's got enough for a first down a gain of 12 yards his Bolton made the catch and ducked out of bounds Keenan Lewis is the one covering Anquan Boldin he starts in and then comes out to the sideline it's just a matter of pitching catch and colin kaepernick puts it perfectly out in front of them [Applause] who just came in off the bench to see what kind of job he can do he's blocked in Paris Harrelson it does a good job [Applause] so a third-down conversion now core is wrapped up lost happy yard never be without football good coverage of every NFL game on NFL mobile call star star NFL to download it now Joe we talked again about the read option and to go back to my point earlier that teams have loaded the box to stop the run that the read option just has simply not been there they've not gotten enough out of their passing game to make people respect that so they can get to some of those types of things they had so much success with last January the field Miller and he has spun out of bounds for the gain of seven let's go to curtain the game break all right thanks a lot guys and here is the Green Bay Packers not having these go their way Jason pierre-paul up in the air pulls it down takes it in 24 yards for Giants trying to win their 4th straight up by 14 in the fourth so Troy in 10 they would go to 4 and 6 and tighten up that NFC East even more they have a home game next pretty big game third down in three Kaepernick has to use a timeout 49ers converted the previous third and three that throw two Anquan Boldin another when we come back with a ball just inside the 35 third down and three as the crowd comes alive here in New Orleans sprint out to the right pass his bulb again for the first down pretty good times there hasn't been a lot downfield but it's been effective enough and another conversion on a third and three well it has been yeah this drive started on the 40-yard line and I haven't got any big plays but they've been efficient they've been able to convert big third down conversion here to bold and moving the pocket a little bit with Colin Kaepernick's these early downs they have a shot down the field it's whether or not they want to take it here's go got half a yard we're winding down inside a minute left in the third quarter in a three-point game and antoine bulls on the outside has been the biggest threat as the [Applause] in goron second of nine gets to that should be it for the third quarter you can see how tough the sledding is right now for the run game gohr have one good run the 24 yard or earlier but other than that the Saints just have not given him much Matt sit for three quarters let's go to the floor at 1714 49ers on top will return after this from your local Fox station forty-niners lead by three as we begin the fourth quarter inside field goal range ninth play this drive third and seven and they keep going hold me keeps popping up and doing that after every play he's been hooked up with Keenan Lewis and these two have been going at each other this entire second half Keenan Lewis has drawn the assignment of Anquan Boldin much like he did last week against Dez Bryant and you're right those two have been John at each other after virtually every play one-on-one as he has seen throughout this game and they throw the back shoulder fade successfully for a big third down conversion 14 yards that frame Quan Baldwin three third down conversions on this Drive made by Hawthorne Gaeta one sorry Joe Greg Roman the offensive coordinator you know normally when last year anyway when teams played them this way they were able to get some big plays down the field they've not been able to do that for a good part of this year and I know it's been a challenge trying to call plays for Greg Roman but they've got one-on-one outside on first down on virtually every play and they've not taken a shot yet and then on second down we've seen the Saints play coverage and they're playing coverage here second down and nine back out to his left it's hit at the end of the play by geordan third down coming up yet again for colin kaepernick you see at the end of this play that Kaepernick goes to the ground cam Jordan and any time you see a quarterback hit the ground you put I don't know about your whale I'm immediately looking for a flag but none from I think it was a good no call and now a 39 and as good a drive as has been for the 49ers this this will be a big stop for the New Orleans Saints if they're able to hold him here to fill both channel we're vlogging for for Davis [Applause] off his hand as he was spinning along the boundary and it's four down it looked like there might have been a hold there on the player felt bush this is definitely a grab there by the right hand and you know Vernon Davis was wanting to flag Antwon Bolden I think he just wanted to ball thrown to him 29 yard try now by Dawson who hit from 55 earlier [Applause] makes it a six-point game one in a 14 49ers extend their lead Saints avoid the touchdown get the stop defensively [Music] today's game on Fox is sponsored by Domino's oh yes we did bye Jared the Galleria of jewelry that's why he went to Jerry and by USAA proudly serving the financial needs of current and former military members and their families victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines urgently need your help dear support the American Red Cross is distributing relief items repairing and rebuilding shelters providing health care clean water and sanitation to help victims of the typhoon please donate the Red Cross Disaster Relief today is a red cross.org or text typhoon to nine zero nine nine nine to give a ten dollar donation here that ziggety and we'll go down to Pam Oliver Joe you guys touched on this earlier we're talking nine games two concussions zero games missed the middle numbers one scares a lot of people about the start of Eric Reid's professional football career these pictures definitely did definitely look bad but the Niners where he said he told me he isn't worried about those concussions that he feels good and he listens to his doctors but Reid's teammates and coaches have stressed that he needs to vary the way he tackles we told me he's going to keep relying on how he was taught to tackle thinking too much he says is definitely how you get hurt he's really shocked to see him suiting up today Joe I thought after two concussions that he would have been out Thomas over the right side [Music] well there's obviously inconsistency built into the system because of the different independent neurologists that these teams visit and so if you look at the st. side of it their rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro is coming off a concussion he was ruled out for this week immediately now granted there's been less time in between concussions for Vacarro why they could caught the attention shock paper his praise is trying to air it out Meechum Thompson meet you wouldn't catch nearly 40 Eric Reid defending meets him slow to get up after a 34 yard completion from Brees he post by Robert Meachem this is really what he does best straight line running deep routes and Drew Brees is able to lead him across the field you talked about it a little bit earlier a brief stop after leaving the Saints for the Chargers didn't go well for him there but he's comfortable within this system and Sean Payton knows how to utilize him in the way that you do is let him get vertical down the field because of his speed he comes off the field shut up rose tripped up [Applause] and a gain of seven Robert machen now coop two catches for 78 yards at a 44 yarder in the first half and now he's good enough to go back into the action on second and three no Jo we came into this game saying that for the 49ers that they really had to rely on their defense today in order to stay in this ball game they couldn't get into a shootout the defense has been you know really good now the Saints are putting this drive together right here actually both these defenses in this game have been have been outstanding the Saints as you said the points they've given are three two of those touchdowns off takeaways or turnovers Mark Ingram on second down picks up two Glenn Dorsey on the tackle for the 49ers you know to follow up on the the Eric Reid situation by no means is anyone suggesting that there was negligence on the part of the San Francisco 49ers but knowing how cautious this league is when it comes to head injuries as you said Joe the Saints immediately rule out Kenny Vaccaro and yet they waited and let Eric Reed go through those tests and I just thought after - in the same season I just assumed that he would be out this week on third down and one gonna float it for Colston inside the 10 26 yards to Marques Colston the quick Colston off the ball so you kid it's harder than to get a jam on him he's able to get a release off the line of scrimmage and then he's able to get to the corner and a perfectly thrown ball Eric right in coverage but set up well by his alignment at the line of scrimmage that allows him a free release so that he can run curse game played this year for Eric Wright lady lady now first and goal and here Thomas to the to back to that catch by Marcus Colston Marcus Colston and you know he's just one of those dependable guys is he's able to to make the catch stretch out for it and the Saints it just seems like you know when they need to make a play all of a sudden they put the plays together and here they are knocking on the door welcome into new audiences you dip in at second and goal for the San Stella by six raise out to his right [Applause] Jimmy Graham was sent by Dante Whitner lostie yard and they roll out the pocket they move the pocket just like they did earlier in the game for the touchdown and try to outflank the defense get the ball to ground but the 49ers really played that ball well sound third down and goal for Drew Brees who has hit 11 different receivers in this game ready [Applause] by Justin Smith by 6:00 the Saints try and run it in and gain nothing on third and goal that's a great play by Justin Smith he's going to split the double-team that's an outstanding job on his part being able to play a double team block split it and then make a play on the ball carrier the catch by Colston setup first and goal inside the ten the drive stalls and Hartley who has missed four of his last six attempts knocks it in from 21 yards away that makes it a three-point game we continue with 750 left drew brees with 350 career touchdown passes 223 of which have come in his career in the redzone Saints try to run it in on third and goal in three and the result is a chip shot field goal to make it a three-point game as Moore's 10 will kick it away [Music] [Applause] it was a catch by Marcus Colston that set it up inside the tent but for Jim Harbaugh his defense made the stand and the 49ers still lead by three today's game is sponsored by Subway kobold with the new subway sriracha chicken melt today starting at the 2005 three on America's game of the week on her 8:00 to play in New Orleans Kaepernick finds a fullback he's wrestled immediately to the ground by Humber some of the early game headliners Carson Palmer for the Arizona Cardinals in the 400-yard day and went over Jacksonville Bobby Rainey third string running back for Tampa Bay a huge day three total touchdowns his Tampa Bay has won back-to-back games in Antoniou Brown his day and the Steelers win at home over Detroit how about Arizona you kind of forget about them they've won three in a row and now it's it's them for their right middle of the swing second down and nine papinek out to his left drops it off door and he had a mile of open space in front of him its third nine oh boy the forty niners had a golden opportunity the guy who who's in coverage on Francoeur has to make a decision do I stay with gore or do I come up on a stranding Kaepernick there is nobody out in front of Gore on that play if they're able to connect and now third down at nine second time out for San Francisco forty-niners had scored on three of their last four possessions last one he picked up three on a short field goal by Phil Dawson after the defense held up on downs a turnover on downs and now a third and nine coming up for Kaepernick I thought when this drive began Joe a really big Drive for San Francisco in getting something going a little over seven minutes left in the game if you're able to drive the ball down take some time off the clock come away with a touchdown you essentially put the game away in a lot of games you know that's how they unfold and contrary defensively they needed to make a key stop it's a big third down right here if they're able to give the ball back to their offense which is move the ball well they just came away with a pill ball instead of a touchdown the previous Drive welcome in a new audience a big third and 9% Francisco seven minutes to go as the 49ers lead by three whit's Kapernick flings it up for baldwin and he's not looking for the ball and it's fourth down as the seats defensively make a stand they try to throw it up and give John Baldwin a chance and he never saw the ball release didn't know where the ball was Scrolls his back again after twisting his ankle early we've seen him in plays from scrimmage in the offense and now he's back for the first time returning pun [Applause] gets into one [Applause] a fair catch around the 28 there's ball one on third down and nine good work by the Saints defensively good game in New Orleans Saints have it down three audiences have joined us in the second half so we did a little little bit of cause and effect 17 points off turnovers put up by the 49ers Bailey lead in the NFL in that category bunt touchdown throw to Bouldin then the interception by Ahmad Brooks as he went up to get it led to a touchdown throw to Vernon Davis frustration for Rob Ryan Rob Ryan's defense just made a stop on third and nine and so the Saints have it down by three well Rob Ryan and his defense they've been outstanding again here this afternoon the 49ers needed takeaways they've got none that's the only things that off that's just been able to do setting up the screen [Applause] [Music] across the 35 a gain of eight Ballman on the tackle so what's at stake here Troy you've got a Carolina team that's won five in a row they're right on the heels of the Saints of that division is up for grabs till you've got the 49ers who had won five in a row and then had the clunker at home against Carolina trying to win on the road here in New Orleans where the Saints are undefeated this season and the 49ers trailing coming into this game by two and a half behind Seattle in the West offensively have made it very hard on their defenses Porter trying to slow down this off first down Thomas a gain of five [Applause] Fox tomorrow the battle and against the horsemen may have been won but the war is just beginning critics agree Sleepy Hollow is one of the scariest funniest most electrifying hours on TV don't miss an all new episode tomorrow right here on Fox true tanks are sitting there saying man the missed opportunities that they've had you know they have the interception by Corey white they don't get anything out of that they get down there on the 3-yard line I have to settle for a field goal some things that don't typically get back for this team extra men on the Ross Brees fire [Applause] coverage by Whitner pass was behind him at second and ten Oh drew brees saw that Dante Whitner was jumping that route you see if he had led Jimmy Graham Dante Whitner was in a perfect position to make a play maybe even interception drew brees sees it now I'm not sure through the bottom of his facemask but he tries to then put it behind him enough but just a little too much and Graham not able to turn and make the play ready Jimmy Graham's been played by his standards for catches 20 yards ex hit [Music] her Saints first down they threaten you down the field Lance more is he's coming off the line of scrimmage he gives the separation because the defensive back thinks that he's going to run the go rout and then once he gets turned Lance mores able to come out of the route for an easy completion tramaine Brock was the one who was in coverage but they're so good at stretching the field vertically that it opens up those intermediate throws 16 yards to number 16 lands for now first down mark picks up two the tough sledding right there and Mark Ingram is able to finish off the run but you know ideally the Saints would take this ball down and take a lot of time off the clock and come away with a touchdown and not leave much left for the 49ers [Music] one issue the Saints have been dealing with is a kicker whoodles lost some confidence four out of six he had missed coming into today's game he hit a short one of 21 yards moments ago [Applause] and a third and two coming up Kaepernick is handy use two timeouts up at the line of scrimmage so the 49ers have only one left the porter dominated by drew brees in the seats [Applause] on third down and two down goes breeze the ball is le and it's picked up by San Francisco and Patrick Willis the hit was high on drugs raised as the ball popped out first out when high hit from Ahmad Brooks takes the take away away Vic Fangio had the perfect call on they brought pressure they had everybody blocked up Brees had nowhere to go with the football he wins on the pass rush she has him come around the edge but when he does he goes to the head and that's the penalty you're going to get the call you know clearly a violation and really a missed opportunity by the 49ers in a great position to make a play on third down the officials have gathered at the 45 yard line Kaepernick sandy hit him across the chest you could hear Tony curenci immediately sing hitting around the neck I thought they got it right Joe when he came in and you see the headgear come up and the arm is around the neck and you know it's a it's a tough call because right here is the game essentially I know Harbaugh is arguing that he got him in the shoulder it looked to me like it was the right call where the penalty be assessed from we had a phone call recovered by the defense therefore the penalty will be assessed from the spot of the penalty 15 yards first down so they will mark it off in the spot of the foul that's why the officials were getting together jim harbaugh obviously doesn't agree remember drew brees is not your typical big six-two six-three six-four quarterback he's six feet at best and this hit from Ahmad Brooks right to the neck area the ball comes out and that's why curenci in the background through the fly your defensive guy trying to get to the quarterback quickly you know you don't have much time you do anything you have to do and just got him high and he spun to the ground with a first down at the 16 and you can see the blood and and on the mouth of drew brees after that high hit as his helmet moved at the end of the play we've had conversations with Jim Harbaugh he is all for protection of the quarterback and I think when he has a chance to look at that after this ball game he'll agree that the right call was made ladies what's up on first town breeze throws it away getting blocking out on the edge from the whoopee tight end Josh Hill the 49ers are looking for intentional grounding saying that breeze was still in the pocket when he let it go there was nobody out there take a look and now they're just on the fly a late flag comes down intentional grounding I'll fix number nine nobody's here in the area pass room from inside the pocket lost it down second down so it brings up second down flag was thrown when we were well into the replay as the officials got together Parenti threw the flag and that is a reviewable play Joe and you know had Brees that thrown it through the back of the end zone he gets away with that but because he went to the sideline with in the pocket then they get to call it's a loss of down and a loss of 11 yard in 2011 [Applause] to the end zone [Applause] Kenny Stills the rookie got his hand alarm on it now it's third and 21 for the Saints who trailed by three they decided to take a shot too Kenny Stills in the endzone because Marcus Colston who was coming across the field he wouldn't have got the first down but he would have gotten a nice gain out of the play Eric Wright who sat the first six weeks was just activated they're in coverage field-goal tribes in this spot third down at 21 men running the squirrels crows will take the ball to the 24 and now it'll be up to Garin Hartley as we approach the two-minute warning the timeout is taken by New Orleans I think that was a good call by Sean Payton you know if you're Drew Brees and it's third and long you're trying to get as much as you can for the field goal he took that decision out of breezes hands goes with the running play to pick up as much as they could to make this as easy on a guy who has struggled in recent weeks as possible kind of a strange timeout as we were winding our way with 11 seconds from the two-minute warning let's go down to Pam Oliver the game and he seemed does the saints in battle kicker he said it was perfect during the week on his kicks despite having the third worst field goal percentage in the league Hartley reiterated to me he's not in a slump he's striking the ball well and he is confident that he will see a 42-yard try from here after the Saints called a timeout as we were approaching the two-minute warning though hitting them good in practice Joe is like hitting good on the driving range I mean you got to hit him good when they count hartley has been a perfect 8 for 8 in his career during the postseason one of the reasons why Sean Payton stuck with him [Applause] coming in having missed four of six the Saints brought in other kickers to take a look at them and built their list in case they needed to sign somebody and he's two for two today and he's tied it to the 42 yarder now that's a good job by Garrett Hartley you're right Joe I mean you work out kickers during the week a lot of pressure on that kick right there and Sean Payton believes in this young man he's made a lot of big kicks for him he's not ready to give up on him and he makes the kick when he had to yeah I mean he's a guy who's made a kick to get the Saints into the Super Bowl and o.9 he's perfect as they said in his postseason career and what did Sean Payton tell us he said I'll even watch the pa T's to see how the balls coming off his foot early in the game he ran the ball on third and long taking a little bit of the distance away from the attempt there Hartley and Hartley is perfect from 42 yards away you know as Sean continues to coach and has more and more success and you got to take the emotion out of it sometime so that gets a lot of coaches in trouble when you start looking back on the things that guys have done and you want to keep those guys around but Garrett Hartley he's got a strong leg as we talked about he's made those kicks and pressure situations he's probably going to be needed again before this game's over Drew Brees the last two drives seven for ten 103 yards with the result two field goals two tire company who has one timeout remaining we'll start this drive at the 20 with 206 left here comes colin kaepernick out to the field to start this drive at the 20 49ers coming off a home loss to Carolina Singh's just tied the game on a 42 yarder from Garrett Hartley and now this crowd has been loud from the beginning will let Kaepernick and the 49ers offense hear it with 206 left this thing for San Francisco Joe they've got to take shots on first down that's when they're getting things the Saints are doing defensively just got it away and Kaepernick can't get away sack back near the ten first guy there junior galette and then run a move on the inside to new gluck it's a free run [Applause] they need a twist on that left side Joe junior galette they don't pick it up on that left side of the offensive line in a free run and so they stopped the clock momentarily now the Saints have stopped the clock entirely by spending their second timeout with one second left so they'll get a stop after this play with a two-minute warning and Sean Payton just trying to get the ball back in the hands but threw a breeze at second in 19 [Applause] paetynn getting them going and colin kaepernick will have to go with the play quality i'm gonna make any adjustments at this mall Kapernick on second down throws it away the Saints are looking for the safety [Applause] see they're in the air the seeds are pleading their case to Tony Parenti Cameron Jordan with pressure and we'll get the call well outside the pocket [Applause] dony corrente saying that outside the pocket there is no flag there is no safety two-minute warning in New Orleans children and warning here in New Orleans its third down and nineteen nearly points for the Saints it was almost intentional grounding in the end zone yeah he wasn't well outside the tackle box but he was outside the tackle box only because the ball was snapped on the Left hatch had it been in the middle of then he would have to have gone outside the hash marks to pull that one away now third down in nineteen can buy some row [Applause] and we go back to the disputed call on what was close to intentional grounding well you're going to see the tackle box the right tackle right here Anthony Davis he's got it he if he gets outside of where he's lined up as you see Anthony Davis the right tackle is inside of the hash marks there and Kaepernick is about a man outside of him and it was the right non-call both by the officials meanwhile Kaepernick is going out of bounds and stop the clock with a minute 48 and then at the end of it that's as good and the flags fly after that I was good one of the better special teams players on the 49ers clearly didn't see the fair catch signal I didn't see it but you have to see it you said it because him Osmond has kicked it's interference ticktick team number 14 for hitting a player out where he made a fair catch 15-yard penalty first down he's been one of their top two special teams players since being picked up and he doesn't see the fair catch signal byes Falls and it's a costly penalty it's going to move the ball all the way up to the 40-yard line from the 25 [Applause] and drew brees has one timeout in a tie game in a minute 41 seconds on the clock plenty of time [Applause] Delaine handoff to schools [Applause] not across the 45 to the 46 for a guy who left the game earlier and we were unsure whether or not hit return that's a good run right there 74 winter in case you're wondering for Garrett Hartley his career long 55 yards two weeks ago at the Jets which means getting the ball to the 37 yard line begin this hurry up on the road as a defense you gotta get real basic Rose it into the turf Holston the closest one to it will give you a recap we've had a lot of action played grow graves we'll be tight and Josh Hill early Goldin after a turnover talents the full-back plowing in this interception by Bob Brooke set up a touchdown pass to Vernon Davis and then the two teams have been trading the field goals now second and ten my poster down inside the 30 they're going to mark him near the 25 and the clock continues to whine Carlos Rogers on the slide Marcus Colston on the intermediate crossing route and perfectly thrown ball by breeze and now Drew Brees and Sean Payton want hang on to that timeout well within range miksa move down inside the 15 [Applause] we'll have a timeout this thing down to three seconds and it'll be up to hardly to win it a guy who saw sean payton bring in other kickers during the week here's the first catch in the last two this bike Holston yeah good separation good call excellent round versus man coverage then he got soft coverage by Whitner and so you pick up more yardage for this field goal that's just an excellent Drive [Applause] by the New Orleans Saints putting themselves in a position to win this ballgame 31-yard try coming it'll be the final play of regulation Barney missing a defensive penalty meanwhile go back to what was going on before the two-minute warning I don't think Sean Payton misses anything and he called a timeout with a clock winding toward the two-minute warning to make the break shorter for Garrett Hartley he could kind of control that more instead of the longer television break with two minutes left Hartley came on hit from 42 yards away and now he's trying to go three for three on the day as Darren Sproles at the beginning of this made the fair catch and then 15 free yards on the hit by Osgood 31 yard try to win it for the Saints to go to 82 sakes winter 2320 all three positions in the fourth quarter ending on Karen Hartley field goals and the Saints are Aten to the OT presented by Lowe's is coming up good game in New Orleans seats win it by three
