Louis Cardinals he's got 16 home runs at the break he said 40 or more in the last four years the only man in history to start his career with 30 or more home runs his first six seasons MVP two years ago Albert winnie-the-pooh holes [Applause] batting fifth in our home run derby from the Toronto Blue Jays a nice young outfielder his second straight year is an all-star he has 17 home runs at the break welcome Alex Rios [Applause] batting six you know this name from long ball lore of the past but now you're certainly getting to know him 29 home Brian was at the break the most in the National League the first baseman from the surprising Milwaukee Brewers Prince Fielder [Applause] down the coast with the first place Los Angeles Angels feared Slugger in the outfielder he's an all-star for the 8th time MVP the league in 2004 14 homers at the break Vladimir Guerrero and hitting cleanup if you will back to defend his State Farm Home Run Derby crown that he earned last year in Pittsburgh he has 21 homers at the break the first baseman of the Philadelphia Phillies Brian power whoa here's what the rules state you get 10 outs swings that don't leave are announced the top 4 home run totals of the 8 will advance round 2 the home runs will carry over from the first round so it's a cumulative total from the first to each player again gets 10 outs and the top 2 home run totals will advance the championship round where the slate is wiped clean it is 0 0 and we're ready to roll Justin Morneau who as we semi spent a few days in a hospital with bruised lung coughing dark blood I mean a collision at the plate but he's a hockey player from outside of Vancouver and tough collisions our option stuff and he got a skipper throw into him - that's what we get the hockey stuff he's a baseball and he's a great baseball player anything other than is it out you know that's good good thing about this Home Run Derby is that we have some new stars here yep and I'm looking down this we have five new stars you got mono Holliday Prince Fielder you know Ryan Howard's coming so this the Knicks Papa stars right here he his 130 RBIs last year when he was the MVP second-most in Minnesota swings history I knew Harmon Killebrew 19 [Applause] that's the deepest part of the ball far as where guys need to try to stay away from but boy he cleared that with the deans dusty out toy this is no error these guys are so strong they can hit it out in any direction and then evolve are at any time is the toughest thing to do [Applause] Jimmy is in the water [Applause] I'm just kind of getting comfortable right now you better hurry up kitty you know what Kenny looser in her boat did you see those veterans out there though that know how to read the ball day so I do they didn't know what they're doing either berry toddler very tunnel mall had to read the ball come over wall did he get enough of that I'll link again to mild high though off the wall [Applause] he wears number 33 you know why Patrick hua goalie Canadiens was his guy so he's still a hockey player he'll just tuck that in there Joe okay well if he can win his getting world championships as as Patrick wah one Stanley Cups he'll be doing okay the gold ball which will be in play for every player after they have just the gold ball isn't buying every home of the Justin American hitters hit the road $17,000 combined for major State Farm and the money [Applause] they're real 4:12 for that one and so there's the first gold ball that out [Applause] is hitting them to the deepest part of this ballpark looks like he's under that one a little bit too much almost in the first round harpy in the first guy I think it's hard in the first guy now also things gonna be hard to be the last guy out for right now that's a lot of [Applause] very [Applause] 21 you know just to tell people about justin morneau last year nine four RBIs with virgin scoring position and two out that's clutch time well that's plus because that's what our bi man and that's what your run produce is supposed to do also some serious going into this thing that boy the first hitter has got a hard one I heard somebody to say the last his assault on mccumbee cold obviously he's got the lift my picture click wait away one for one all right boys he tries the line drive version two for two it could be a national holiday by the time we get done here I definitely believe it's easier to hit the ball out left field even though the wind predominantly goes that way trying to pick the right heat oh no I agree but I just had to pick Howard Olympic and I had to pee on that field yeah I just think they're more than Howard more interested in proving something I thank this like you said this parts hard to hold it out fools know that one of his power look at in the seats Matt Holliday is 27 years of age in his fourth major league season he's hitting at 341 right now which is the second highest average in the National League he's dad was the Oklahoma State baseball coach Tom Holliday and guess what he really right quick and I tell you one thing he is a large young kids we're talking earlier today the dust we were both surprised at how big Rios is from Toronto Rios is about six six and I've seen him play on TV I guess when he's standing beside everybody else is 6 3 I stood next to this young man and he is used he's probably with six five about 250 and a good athlete a great athlete look at that balls it stinks yes that went over the foul pole that is a long wave you talk about getting off to a good start never seen anybody won over the father not that way [Applause] close to that coke bottle I've never seen anybody get close woo 462 how about that man I look like some Kevin Mitchell glass right there who's right in front of us by the way but Matt Holliday he's gonna I know a place for a rival team in this park but he could open up a lot of eyes here well nobody gives him a lot of critic as he plays on Colorado right but this guy is a good ballplayer no matter where he plays six outs now five home runs four no started with four the sun-drenched late afternoon in downtown San Francisco tell you Chris advantage different lives with the guys that started early on those shadows are gonna creep in here pretty soon it's gonna be a little difficult to see it's under this one [Applause] let's wake the legs so holiday with two outs to go as five home runs he gets into this one and now the gold ball will be in play Morneau hit one with the gold ball he's lost his stroke son Chris he's trying to lift the ball now before he was driving the ball [Applause] and a big start that ends up with some outs in a row but here's our leader in the clubhouse [Applause] with a five-spot very impressive let's take a look at this one over the pole bake [Applause] I got people sitting out there they didn't think they were gonna get in didn't think they're on getting soon is yes you let bill have to build a bridge 450 and 462 with this one that is on the Bay Bridge Joe welcome back everybody to AT&T Park here in San Francisco let's join Peter Gammons with the special guest Barry Bonds Barry giving you a relationship of these fans in San Francisco was it hard for you to not participate in this on Mondavi oh definitely Peter because it's you know this is my hometown is there the fans that supported me throughout my career it's just I'm almost 43 years old I wanted to do it you know in my heart and I you know I just can't do it anymore it's just something I've I'm not capable of doing it you know everyone sister says you know I can't don't think about yourself and I can't think about myself and I think about my team and I'm just grateful I've been able to play as many games I've been able to play this year and I want to continue playing and producing for my team and that's the most important thing that Savannah produced for your team I'm very thankful that they voted me into the all-star game and out the opportunist start here at home in front of in front of San Cisco fans and I'm forever grateful for that at your age what's the most difficult thing about playing every day now the fifth inning you get to your okay that first five innings and it it really starts weighing on you a little bit it's trying to last the entire game and that's the hardest part how much was the homerun record but on your mind it really hasn't Peter at all has it been my teammates have been great the city's been great everyone around throughout the league and we're back boys been great and I ever thought it I think the only thing that gets me is when they change the ball Sharon says they changed the balls I haven't hit a home run since they did it with Cincinnati I gotta try to not see that change because then that's what's in your mind you you know that there's something going on and when there's no change of baseballs you know your mindset is just focused on the game so I have to really try to focus myself away from that ball change have you been surprised at the reaction of fans around the leg and did you worry a little bit about it before the season what reaction are you talking about just that the fans in our fans because of so much controversy and surrounded this you worry that before the season that they'd be bullying that the fans would get on you don't worry about that because you know it's the same thing when you say people you know it's the same thing like me sitting there saying a third party the thing is is that I am disappointed at people that are judging me by a third party's comment and actually do not know the people of San Francisco know may see me walking the streets they know type person I don't go to play I don't hang out I don't do crazy things they know that and I feel sad about somebody that judges another person over a third party's comment you're allowing that person addicted your opinion about me that's that for me that would be me someone center saying ain't Peter Gammons it's also something like going on man I don't know the guy so I'm not gonna jump to that conclusion in an opportunity meet you if I do meet Jack sit there say you know what you're wrong he's a nice man I've had opportunity meet him do you care if Bud Selig and Henry Aaron are here when you when you break the record you know I said it earlier today as far as Hank Aaron goes Hank has a life you cannot predict a home run and when that's going to happen to ask someone to travel all around the city's not going to be in a slump for two weeks a month whatever it's not fair to hang and I don't think it's right this is something that one after this is all over something you know I you know congratulate her something like that that would be great you know I have the utmost respect for Hank Aaron but silly he's the commissioner you know I don't know what if commissioner does so he's his own man whatever he wants to do and now he wants to represent the game of baseball and that's all but silly that's not on me sorry thank you very much Peter Barry thank you my gut feeling fellas the Commissioner will be here that's what I think too I think you'll be here you know I think that's close well I think birds don't try to do it here saintly Hank Aaron you know sort of time it to be in Atlanta I mean I think the people here deserve to have it I can always you can always time it just Magglio Ordonez who by the way is putting together one heck of a first half 367 batting average which is the best in baseball but while we were hearing Peter and berry he had six outs just the one home run to see Magglio is what you call an outstanding ballplayer he can hit he can run he can hit the power but he's not a real as I say that he's going deep you know who strains the ball all over you know I mean this guy is not what you call your prototypical just a great ball good him yes he is well with you stay away from it you'll go to right field throw them a lot of off-speed pitches he'll go back to little more of a hitter as you say Dennis other slugger correct with Magglio late in the Advanta want to get back to Hank Aaron and the Commissioner chittering Hank Aaron somebody very close to you just and of course Joe a fellow Hall of Famer you guys going so very well and dusty we should point out when you were on deck 4 7 14 and 7:15 when Hank it goes so the world whack problem or Dona Sandow is on the cold the Detroit Tigers what a hell of a survey the red sari world the great pitching team last [Applause] welcome back everybody to AT&T Park here in San Francisco we watched one of the best hitters period and baseball now with the Albert Pujols for the st. Louis Cardinals a couple years ago the MVC and while we watch Albert take his time take a few pictures which is probably the right way to do it we're joy oh my goodness back back back God dead center field this year law of average man right here this is he's do he hadn't hit a homer in 74 at-bats so his first swing it's gone well we got a guy that's hit the most homeruns in the majors 30 already at the break is joined us here at the sitting that would be Alex Rodriguez at the New York Yankees you clean up nicely quickly quickly I have dinner in about an hour you know what that orange that was looking funky on you what they were all wearing graduations on your perch in the first half when you got off in April like well if you feel that was something to prove are you just for whatever reason came up north as hot as you've ever been well the way we finished last year I thought it was important for me to get off to a good start at that in the point for a team to get off to a good start it anytime you can two back-to-back walk-off home runs in one week it definitely gives you a little breathing room number one and number two it kind of you know gets a little momentum where you can carry for the rest of the year a little bit different with I mean there's still plenty of teammates you with the Yankees you're at the all-star but it's been a it's been a puzzling first half for the Yankees hadn't it out we've had our challenges that's the show speaking of challenges whole my goodness we like to walk fools I know right yeah yeah we've had our challenges but I tell you I think we finished up pretty strong in the first half we took two out of three out of Anaheim and three out of four from Minnesota to real good teams and hopefully we can build on that here and the second half if you like watching a guy like cool hoping you come every year to this thing you're an all-star I mean a guy like who else gets up and of course you see him up close and personal in these games you know I told him the one thing about being in the American League is you don't get to watch great hitters like him I talked about you wish to get a chance to watch him a lot more but he's phenomenal is one of the top all-time great is right-handed hitters I've ever seen well he's probably saying the same thing about you Alex you hit 35 home well I think I've slimmed down a little bit this just went enjoy work I got started a little bit earlier started working on my swing and in my body then you kind of just you come into season with a little bit of a fresh mind with a little bit of an attitude and something to prove and you know it's worked out well so far you know I want to congratulate you on what you said I know you're injured you got injured you missed a couple games but she said you were coming to the all-star game because well I think it's a horn him it would have been easy to fly home in Miami for two or three days our game is building there was a great event I'm glad to be a part of it cool halls with his third home run Alex will the second half this season in New York would that determine what you want to do after this I don't know I you know New York's been great I mean it's been great has been challenging has been all the things that anything anyone can ask for and something special about wearing that uniform day in and day out we have our we have a lot of work to do here in the second half we'd get it done speaking of wearing that uniform get past Lou Gehrig on the all-time home run list I mean I understand that you're doing this with a look at Lou Holtz is this one [Applause] we miss that time visit dishes going on you wouldn't have met when was the Lou Gehrig I mean keep pinch yourself even after all that you've accomplished yeah it's amazing I mean you're first of all you thank the good Lord for giving you the help to go out and do that and I knew Lou Gehrig went to Columbia I didn't even know he had you know 493 home runs or whatever was so that was pretty cool and a great honor I got a question for you and that's why you and jr. fooling around today that must feel great we've come full circle here so much from Kennedy I mean he was into a lot of scrutiny when I played with him he was the best player in the game and although we were in Seattle he got the view of treatment you know and he had all their endorsement he was the best player and he was a greatest show on baseball [Applause] [Music] goalball justice from pool so Albert curious number tough to hit him out of here though kicking up big park and Alex Rios comes up so Matt Holliday with five to most of us bar pool olson Morneau with four where door goes to as we're half we've heard this first round of the home run we're back he was young squid young Alex Rios of the Toronto Blue Jays you know the Jays Vernon Wells with a little more pop out there of course but Rios been a couple all-star games in at all well I tell you this is a guy you know he was then uh you know when playing in Canada I think everybody would know it master he was loft to the dynamite started then he got sick and never did you know regained his Stoke in the second half was a fine player named Joseph walked up to him in the batting cage today and I was speaking to most of the players and I actually looked I said well who's that I mean he is huge and he's gonna get stronger Joe he has that frame you can tell he's going to get stronger bigger and stronger that was a leveraged home run right there six-five he is only close to 200 but where's Lister 194 but he might be I'm telling this is gonna get bigger stronger to see he has tremendous leverage I mean that's his real straight I'll make it going down he's got a slight uppercut yep you know pool holes have the store we didn't get to really analyze Albert very much with Alex I'll pretend I'm going there at a couple of bombs it's hard to analyze someone else when you're sitting yet Alex Rodriguez but here's one of the truly great layers in the game you know when you watch these guys hitting this ballpark Joe you know what Barry Bonds has done is even more remarkable matter this is not a home run hitters ballpark we've realized that because you know we're round I realize how difficult it is to hit home runs and definitely a pitcher's ballpark Brielle's - right Santa dead center field a long ways underneath it you know Candlestick Park which is a whole completely other story other Lee it's only about 20-25 minutes down the road here but we should tell people that the wind at about what 3:00 3:30 every afternoon the hawk is called came up but it was brutal here in this ballpark Joe and dusty that was that back back back bar two homers for Rios hit more kicks up about this time couple hours later right five 36 inches well the dirt between kennel stick in here was about the wind most the time blew from left to right and it blew all over the stadium and when they told me with Peter Magowan Toby dusty they're gonna have wind protection here [Applause] Dustin's gonna be a different window and it was because the way they caused ratable Stadium the wind is blowing up top that's why you see pop-ups go out guys is invariably miss them [Applause] [Music] [Applause] but here in this ballpark the fans behind the home plate area all left to right and they're protected from the wind the fans that get the wind and the cold air that other people out there missile via as we mentioned you mentioned it before the shadows now halfway between the pitcher's mound and wheels tries to go dead center field take out it he got it big time so for seems to be the number there with five outs now watching all this in a home run derby and then you're a starting pitcher tomorrow pitch to all these guys that's what jpp will try to do tomorrow with the San Diego Padres to try to give to his sling finally the upper hand in this all-star game for the first time in about a decade we're there at Andrews there that's right boomer and Jake congratulations first of all what was your reaction when you found out the news that you would start tomorrow well obviously excited you know this is a what a great event and have a chance to start it for the National League I'm you know feel I tell you Jake's guy he called this before Matt Holliday even started swing and you said he would win this competition why you know I think Maddie's got great power and obviously you know he's one of my boys that I pulled for that being a good friend so I'm pulling for Mattie and we'll keep this thing in the West is it's a year for the NL I hope so I really hope so I hope we win tonight and obviously tomorrow night we got some got some business to take care of so enjoy it good luck tomorrow man you guys need a well-pitched ballgame tomorrow and he he thinks he's up for the task yeah got his family his father was with him and it's yeah well right hand is it for right entity that ball kept going and going and going you're talking about the all-star game tomorrow I remember when I freeze made me meet my first all-star team I walked in and Cleveland that Pete Rose reminded me a we got you here you know because we want when we know that you're a winner we won nine in a row and we don't intend on Luzon and right away right away yourself the pressure at that transitive the national 8 was winning almost every year I've played in an all-star game we won all ten right well it was like two decades in a row like 20 of 20 waters and that was the pressure that we felt and right now the time is serving North American League is the team I think you've missed out goalball effort quite put five prince of course son of sessile fielder got the Brewers in first place for the first time since 1982 at the all-star break you think of the names that were on that team he had Yount on that team he also had the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers Ned Yost was on that 82 team how important to get off to a good start we've seen a couple of guys Rios and C prince roles went over holiday you know they kind of got right away hit the first one take a deep breath well that's a key to this whole thing is to get off to a good start you don't want to have to play catch-up when you have you know seven outs you only have three left and you know try to hit six or seven home runs to get yourself in this thing you got to get off to the snide quick and get that copper we got off this night pretty quick right there you thinking about princefield he seems to like the big stage where I think other guys might you know get a little worried what people are thinking he does and he seems to thrive on the attention over it may not have been the longest it certainly was the highest [Applause] all right crabby thank you that was this one was also I actually approached the Plymouth a minute ago well the wind came into effect right there to that ball was headed toward right field and wind blew it in the right center field shows you the difference in the game Alex Rodriguez plays in New York [Applause] [Music] Rockets up there any warning at least Rodriguez plays in New York he's got 30 home runs and we celebrated his year so far Prince builder has 29 home runs but he plays in Milwaukee and guess what he's overlooked by a lot of people yeah well the Brewers getting the I mean it's a long way to go but if they're they're kind of the Tigers of this year this team that came from way seemingly nowhere although they'll tell you they were building all along here and while they work for his and they got some fine young players over there you know you look at guys like him and you know Rickie Weeks and Billy Hall I mean they have a hard line the party they got party Wow and they're feeling that too how about some of the Prince Fielder you know when he was 12 years old obviously being along with his dad at the time Cecil was hit back-to-back seasons at 50-plus home runs at Detroit they said it at 12 years old he hit a home run in Tiger Stadium and batting practice he's 12 years old he hit went over the wall but I heard about I mean I heard he hit one out of one stadium at 15 years old and I see why I mean he must have been big at Birth yeah it was big he's I'm sure I think he was 50 pounds at about a year old now I read that - I keep that seems impossible I'm not so sure Dustin back to the point you made earlier about the light creeping across because he was late more on that fastball I thought the guys earlier yeah you know I had an advantage right because like he said there's no way he's late on that cell call them depends yeah he's late on the couple come in a little bit when it gets all in the shadow on the mound then it'll be better for the job right yeah what he said come in a little bit bring it inside Frank got a few well you know Swift a little bit my man see you having trouble with minors Peter well you're hanging I'm hanging so I think builder walks into inside and he's getting the little footballs tailing away there he was late on that one - Joe he didn't see that ball no [Applause] [Applause] [Music] it's Kenny's area but it's foul jeez man over poor it goes somebody's wit I mean somebody's gonna be ki what's going on out there I'm gonna go over and confiscate the ball I guess your Steve Kerr wants to give it up his cap is caught off the illegal platform those guys are playing golf over there Kenny you don't have do you don't have like a channel there you can get through I mean they don't give you right away and nothing gulfstream anything um you know I'm delirious I've been staring into the Sun pull out that power we get a chant out of the deal don't you I'm down to my last but this is Kenny's new home man see yeah it's tough did you get one more you got a chance I'm going to a long one win if he gives one more hit two more lightning strikes at the same place all the time actually hits the Space Needle all the time all he goes to the deepest part of the park does he have enough [Applause] that's a long ways way [Applause] chichay young man was good trial just got three vegas face looks a little like Jerome Bettis to me they'll even get the little get that smile little buggy with little buzz he's a big box now all the kids come to them but you can tell ya he's fight closer to them there are some of the guys I remember those days when I was young going up that's great you see a guy like that with all the kids come around [Applause] welcome back everybody to AT&T Park here in San Francisco here's a guy that understands with the finish line is Vladimir Guerrero is now the shadows have kind of taken over at least where they're releasing the ball take some pitches let the way the Angels are playing I think they're because from an offensive standpoint they just do not you know you have glad you have Matthews going well will it's doing well I mean they have some guys but they're not a homerun hitters hold up Joe he got a phone call Blair got a phone call to big Papi's telephone do you think it is [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] mr. ban this is awesome thought he was bringing the whole day out for this week yeah you know what you talk about the young kids running to a guy like Prince Fielder big poppy poppy the same gun same kind of person out oh yes you gotta have those guys on your team and you love to be around them they pick up everybody it seems like they're never down seems like they never have problems but they're helping everybody else to their problems Vladimir Guerrero having trouble you know what and he's such a there we go as soon as we say trouble it I'm gonna win by default these guys they'll get hot here well you know with five Rios and how they have guaranteed themselves into the second round right along with I know but that's my god because he won last year is that final you know let's see pools has four yeah or no for everybody else got Vladimir Guerrero that's it on this is gone into the Sun trench left fielder seats Ryan Howard you know I'm sitting around in this chair for an hour or hour fifteen after the last time I swung a back no he went down in the batting Fiat watched him I told him going to supposed to do that that's gone pay this back from big Papi's got some magic its back back it is God the puppy that you know Guerrero's at blessed homers this year than we've seen from him he's still such a feared hitter in that lineup well he says that's the point he's the Barry Bonds of that lineup I mean they're they pitched around him whenever they can but it's hard to pitch around him [Applause] behind him you know nothing against him like Gary Matthews jr. he's never been in that situation you know the top of the order so number one thing they got to get some pitches hopefully for that bad Vlad to hit his hands are so strong I mean guy that news batting gloves I've never seen him shake his hands when he gets jammed I'm telling this guy has has Manos of Steel [Applause] [Music] is among the four spots all right did not it [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] bottom here Guerrero can get the five he'll be going to the second round for sure for could get you let's go to Erin Andrews whooping what went on between those two oh that's a big [Applause] Dominicans like they've been anemic even there you go letting compete going on you know we are moving using that kind of whoo this year that's really good for 63 with that one Aaron and papi a long ways that's the longest of the day so you're right that is Robert Redford in the natural right oh yeah hey know what I like about this online Derby to the music man their Jam DJ is Jim good music in this park I'm here right you might sing tonight huh for some reason I don't know I'm just ready for that close now Counting Crows [Applause] you were kids down here on one foot and everything foul ball but hey they get to go home with a flag ball now here's a gold bag for Vladimir Guerrero who is you the next round along one thing black can do he can handle pressure he came back there keep that back he's gonna be hitting in a little while so we know that Guerrero Rios and Holliday are in the next round can Brian Howard the defending champ make it round number two but Guerrero really matched it fellas you sure did welcome back everybody to AT&T Park here in San Francisco and our jazz trying to measure that well he started out better and he started out last year oh no you're right gotta remember you said it's a lot the conditions are completely different back east is hot here on the west coast well he's got the magic picture who works in that Phillies bullpen he served them up to Ryan Howard last year and they were before that it was Bobby Abreu so this is the magic batting practice pitcher well he's taking it personal to that I saw I'm like you know stop its foot after Ryan hit there you go that's a sweet [Applause] 4:21 to that right he's ready now [Applause] Brian Howard who earlier this year passed 100 homers I know we're talking about nobody got to 100 that fast in the history of the game Joe that's amazing but again you know these young guys today that are you saying Joe I said they have no fear I mean they better walk up guess we had nothing bothered penalty it was interested because Alex Rodriguez didn't know that Lou Gehrig had 493 scatter the whole American [Applause] [Applause] now they're hiding two children now there is pressure yeah he needs to take a couple balls just relax and breathe well he's going again to the wrong part of the park guys you got it [Applause] yeah breathing easier now Joe yeah that's gotta be that's strong no Ryan Howard last year at 58 home runs I just need five right about now I understand you just beat four more hats up to suit the 23rd man ever to hit 50 or more obviously breaking schmitty's but now we're down to eight outs - Joe alright two more two more isn't and he's in a bad off he's concentrating right now [Applause] man see that's why she left hands that's a home run [Music] well abreu as a filly than Ryan Howard [Applause] he's concentrating look at that face that's beautiful [Applause] well everybody gave it a chance but he will be eliminated Prince Fielder was eliminated Magglio ordóñez eliminated three are going on Matt Holliday Alex Rios Latimer Guerrero would die this is now a five swing playoff between the two guys that had war over jello hit in the same order that they've added in the first round Justin Morneau and Albert Pujols five swings I'm poor so still kind of a la la no has that get out of there for justin morneau button is base of the wall now that's gonna be too long Oh kid pay attention [Applause] ball got out there and hurry these are at NVP last year the American League Justin Morneau this one [Music] let you talk about a home run at left field I feel the wall is sufficiently tiring right takes away the line drive talk here come on garden there's one ready Kenny oh it's off these flat floor in right-center field how interesting is that right it over the platform in right-center you got to be kidding me so there's one home run for Morneau LC bull hanging out pools he's been a star since the first day he started playing in the big leagues sure it's just 200 homers in a thousand hits eight hundred six games breaking the quickest mark set by a fellow them will be honored often tomorrow night Willie Mays the greatest player we ever saw no I didn't see babe no I know Willie's the greatest at I ever I know I know where you stand on that John I know where you're staying on that dusty am i right yeah you're right well that makes three of us we got that pick [Applause] okay talk about don't wait till the horses out of the pattern now he'll ever be in there that was using his legs that's what our strength is in his leg [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the second round now you Matt Holliday who open up a lot of eyes here are you guys get a make another pic no I'm still alive with Alberto I got I got damn offal one already and I gotta marry Guerrero so you know what that means and I got pool house you know that means see Rios is a lot the fact that he plays here three serious season will that help him I don't think so I think it makes this a home run place where you get accustomed to the view and so forth it's under this one but since in a long way back oh he's on a roll [Applause] I've done something I'm saying a word you start out like this last time some good luck for you going the other way no way and again the rules are the same as the first round you get ten outs any ball that is not anything swing anything other than a hormone is it out and guess what this is out of here this is way boy is that famous back back back back back yeah I just can't see it back back back for all of them Vegas no way God is that longer than just gone over its a four pack that's just and this is far okay the rules changing the home runs there hi guys your brother 475 now remember these guys all with the five have a one home run head start on pool as that the numbers carry over from round one that was close to Stinson Beach hey I don't want those fairies out there to visit early hit 34 homers last year 15 at the break this year he has showing some big-time power almost hit my mother the car out there along the wall [Applause] he was gonna do this in this show we had well I think that's almost better some time he didn't have time to get nervous all that stuff is that okay a minute yeah Miguel Cabrera was going to participate was yeah and then he hurt his elbow yesterday or something they got him I've noticed the palsy it's best when he drops down a little bit sidearm 6x6 home enough let's check in quickly with Peter Gammons meter well I thought was pretty interesting in that hall they brought his brother consisted coaching Arizona State in here to throw batting practice to him who's coming to the game anyways ready to say what the heck they were throwing p-peter at one another all their lives that's over everything caterer not feel that's into the players parking lot so often a broken winch right - well Clark even Kevin Mitchell our they're amazed at that over right look at everybody's winsome [Applause] [Applause] got into that one but boys seven one Rises gives him 12 total and who's still got a couple out to go take your time Matt take a deep breath this young man hey this young man's gonna be known after this home run derby the same way to David Wright was there's will - sir how about that as a sweet swing oh my god but one of the sweetest of all time you know trust me when you were the batting coach at the Giants in 89 and Roger Craig will [Music] like the middle of the tennis racket even here the stock in the RBI what a trio those guys must have been a decent Bank oh yeah he gets into this one we missed that one he missed it but Matt Holliday the best round of anybody thus far getting the finals on these giant fans are warming up to this collar lot of them on their feet just put on a great show here Joe yes he has these but doesn't if they'll pick the winner here I mean this guy's his balance is so good in this swing if you watch here I mean he doesn't lose his balance he spin from the million sound right good platform we use his hand we just win back so well right now of ken griffey jr. when he was on a roll Danny just Cox that leg he puts it right back down he has five homers of over 450 feet today holiday goes in Canada they say when you go on holiday you're on vacation he put a couple of those [Applause] everybody Alex Rios scattering the photographers can't be that late yet through the middle before seven o'clock oh that lollipop then that tootsie roll pop looks like a little on you buzz at the same time he's on East Coast time and the clock on that it's Rios from the Blue Jays man this young man has a nice swing that'll be foul he doesn't know the swing Joe no ice bollocks links best for right-handed either well you gotta look like you said early got a lot of leverage long flowing rios is another bomb the dead center field back [Applause] somebody pick reals no what did I tell you Joe they say of course I'm on pool should that catch out there there's Kevin Mitchell is the Midd yeah but Kevin made one in a game oh yeah that was unbelievable when the man she beefy man I'm watching Mitch and will over there bring them back some pleasant memories boy [Applause] ríos five home runs in the first round please get to but he compiling some outs here needs to get on a little bit of a roll yeah you better come right Center little rulesets and I'm part of that right nummy if it is theirs it's not a flat wall over there there's a hump on the one of the cars there and you may see it come into play right here no but it's gone oh look at it he almost hit the window on the woody now another one Oh just didn't quite get the elevation Erin Andrews with Matt Holliday and he put on a show eight o'clock this morning was gonna do this 13 home run so far how have you gotten in a groove no my brother told me good pitches and then it's trying to take good swings trying to stay nice and easy not try to do too much try stay inside the ball and just let apply a little bit of course your brother is sitting right next to you Josh who's throwing gee how special is it on the mound and you're reading this thing that's pretty cool I mean I want him to be part of that obviously if I don't know neurotic brought the guy throws to me during better watching Joe my guy go but they didn't tell this morning so he's here and I thought it'd be neat opportunity for for us to get out on the field together silver barn Aaron thank you thank you Matt it's interesting second round now we've had holiday and reals eight and now well six thus far it is this seven of them not quite but we've had the two biggest round so maybe maybe the full shadows are or helping out starting to see the lights are started thinking back to heat or maybe they try to figure out their strategy here because these guys are new at it I think these strategies hit over the fans yeah that's good strat make you have a future in this private is it back back back and yeah that's out of here so our shells he's got twelve vitomir guerrero and Alber pools have better be ready here let me be ready to step up and hey smack if anybody knows how to be ready those two guys launcher now a gold ball in effect $17,000 the Boys and Girls Club matches at baseball state park defining on our home runs were hit with nine outs [Music] saving and in a couple of goalball home runs kind of the color of all Charlie Finley wanted to use once upon a time look at this one this is solid gold [Applause] you could flan at home I said naturally Rios will win because none of us around me this one is [Music] [Applause] he's on the outside as Alex Rios keys to the quarter Pole [Applause] he's got the most homers because it's cumulative the first two rounds holiday with 13 5 and 8 Rios now of 14 5 & 9 [Applause] drive right there most of the guys are the successful email they do not have to change their swings if you were with us at the beginning Willie McCovey the grand [Applause] an upper tier job the center field that's Barry Bonds territory he's the only other guy I've seen the ball and get a ball up there for Butler that was Rios Brandon [Applause] [Music] don't bring the house down everybody getting up now all these gold ball homeruns to centerfield does this one have legs go ahead [Applause] Alex Rios hotel nustar's than a leader one house around the most tough are that 12 given him a 17 and in prime position to move into the finalists although black Guerrero and Albert pools still haven't had their say they can have to have a lot of say yeah they are welcome back everybody to AT&T Park here in San Francisco Vladimir Guerrero he needs to get moving and remember he hit his five home runs after he made five outs Carl Steve and Kruk glad you could be along with us Big Papi gave him a backhand hit five with a nihilist everybody gets together and clapping let's go back gotta give it to him we didn't see the call yeah yeah umpires out there I understand out or not I think a fan reach over the wall definitely I don't know what it out number three mmm let's see that one more time that's well that's a tough call to be on this Monday they didn't give it to him see it again after a benefit of a doubt should go to the hitter the tie goes to the hitter yeah home run derby man it's all we bring the ball we make the rules there one more look at you guys charge they really can't tell they reached out so far that's why Joe came up with that title so it's ruled as an out so Vlad quickly and a hole here with four outs remember he didn't get started till halfway through his last at-bat you're jumping a little bit Joe there [Applause] the joint was jumpin air and get anything fast you got you got it's a backpack gone that's it - back for custody he's thrown a little harder I was thinking the same thing and this one certainly will have enough loft and Guerrero in the game he goes okay that's the speed I want right there hands Albert in the cage he's up next 464 feet that slow down take your time forehead there you go Vladimir Guerrero you know in relative obscurity back in the days with the expose 30 homers 300 hundred RBIs did it three straight years before he was 25 years of age now only Jimmy Fox Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams and Vlad Guerrero [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hey Joe he's coachable not see you join yourself back in this park - you had some great yes it did great memories here some great players and great times and I think all of them for for helping make my life I've always wanted after this question I may not be the format lab in any way go ahead when you went out in the sixth game of that World Series and you gave the ball to the pitcher what was your thinking there huh my thinking was because Russ had just got installed at the time before that his last start against them and to me I didn't I mean they might have taken it as a game right there I thought the game was over there's no way you think that I was like commending Russ for a job well yeah you know so you don't show up the team like that right you don't have any clue how big he is a tease it up next time know what I like about no helmet he's old-school no batting love that's old yeah no batting glove no helmet just balling bad let's go let's go never complains alibis he just comes to play [Applause] [Music] [Applause] see take a ticket ticket back there take back off I know I think he's digging the music though he got biggie smalls jam it on him they get him ready Holliday has 13 now it's Rios is 17 in the club how about this that one went for 74 and Jose Reyes of the Mets he could run out there maybe that fast but I don't know forget it well we'll see basically this is what Barry was talking about getting tired trying to hit this many rounds and he is a little older than Vladimir and some of these guys look definitely tired at the same time [Applause] very susceptible specimen you sitting around to pull in something and when you pull that thing that is weak in this round 464 469 474 and 450 well I told you was stretching it out a little bit you know he gets under this one to get center fear [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he needs one more to give himself a chance in the final round [Applause] here comes the flag again [Applause] now what do we got no tape okay no glove [Applause] [Music] tigerair our needs a homer right here since it's on that field doesn't have enough [Applause] just gone over the show you can see there and if he hits one more we're in oh yeah holidays out if this one is gone oh yeah I know that so I'm pulling for a ban off what did you guys [Applause] [Laughter] what we might as well go ahead [Applause] mr. 500 so man holiday is eliminated despite his outstanding performance yeah great job for my man it's okay [Applause] well you said that Vlad was the pressure plate no see under pressure yeah I love some land this one's out kid wanna watch performance was a great chance to keep moving on [Applause] me [Applause] yeah yeah but I will remind everyone original pic we know that I think this is what's fun for us the moves for those this is cool about this the longest home run this year in the regular season Barry Bonds for 91 it is harder to hit a ball back [Applause] that's correct [Applause] now Albert Poulos needs to hit ten balls into the seats or he will not advance Albert with four of the first runs in a law than one that swing off with two impressive yeah but he's been sitting a long time they have put a fumble task in front of him to have missed a home runs I mean that's plus you know as long as it's land those guys are out there see he's had to take a whole bunch of swings down that bad occasion well didn't affect him first one the left so much for that theory [Applause] winnie-the-pooh holes sit pretty happy right now yeah well he looks like he has the stroke we can't agree oh yeah ten is a lot it is I mean especially if this being a third round almost [Applause] yeah I'd say he was amazing the first round was so slow so to speak now these guys are letting it all go they stretching it out look this that was 457 the last must be nice to have that ability to stretch it out Dave Mackay the pitcher the longtime coach with Tony LaRussa at first in Oakland and of course now with the world champ I'm 7/8 with the 8th and coach long times he had gained a pound in 15 years wonder how he does that tough with 10 is one thing you're right but we now have to get down and and again I think fatigue is going to start to set in a little bit as it did with Vlad Vlad was smart enough to back off you got under it yeah back off Alex yeah I think that's what you have to do take a little more time in between swing foul oh it's a scorcher but that won't have the loft so all of a sudden after three straight homers we have four straight out well he's taking a little more time he's backing out land in it at some point you have to relax and start over again such a menacing polls at the plated because I'll tell you my son emulates him all the time he's at home stretching that that up there they brings back nightmares when they use this it's called my team's like that because you know as a competitor you love competing against the best and this guy is certainly the best so what's interesting is about him he leans his bat back you see the angle he has on his back and that's unique in today's game because most guys get that right forward with the barrel of the bat coming forward and then they explode he starts in a little different position until you're right he angles it back and then he slaps a lot to his power and leaves it there that's his timing mechanism six outs in a row not feeling so good now well that's okay Vlad's gonna win anyway it gets under this with us I think he got it back it goes plenty go for this round eight overall and Guerrero with for Tina's and says outward junior opened dad can get it going again [Applause] he hadn't hit a homer in a game in the 74 at bats hard to imagine it seems impossible somebody's in trouble to say now yep oh this one almost hit the flip on the way up there sends it deep to left hand cause it might be in trouble of days days [Applause] four outs and needs five homers it's tough still tough five for a swing-off six to be in the finals we're gonna see a valley the stones fan what do you think I think so I don't think you can miss that one so hyerin look at all these kids can imagine someone's gonna get hurt out there oh my god my son want to go out there now right now signing out big enough yet [Music] now pool needs a little towel off [Applause] two outs left needs five homers the MVP if a couple of years ago second so many times and bonds wanted second or third [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we maybe Berkeley we thought it was going to get tougher and then progressed me you know the air and it being heavier it doesn't seem to be happening he is really on the precipice though here he's still on the edge two outs were four homers johnmiller keeps reminding it I'm telling him between swing listen two outs [Applause] backpack [Applause] well this show that all of them are put on in the second round well that each of these guys these guys are here to win I mean they're they're like rifle guys here everybody came out any to see these guys 459 a crowd of 43,000 615 this everybody's still here been two and a half hours and they were here earlier than that for Patek practice it's longer than the game I'd say this was a tough a ticket to get the game tickets actually this Home Run Derby is taking off thanks to you guys and thanks to the players now the players I would say that long ball is now where are we now at the gold ball three homers or one out [Applause] you gonna target [Applause] unless pl6 three you know I think last year when the Cardinals lost like ten in a row whatever was he had a big home run against the Padres that just they really saved their season the home run just [Applause] [Music] when they demand the greatest step of them do something that's when they send up and you know what they need early in that San Diego series you got them and every sport Jones needed touchdown you've got a two-point you need a three-point play you need a goal with hockey the guys that you say don't let em pizza always busy he needs food of course is swing off with Guerrero three to advance to the finals remember he only has one out left whose actually tension here in the home run derby and I'm feeling a little bit myself [Applause] doing these forces swing-off to for the finals or one out and you go home it's all that close Wow look at that that's [Music] [Applause] take this pressure on gave McKay get in Dave Rusty's face it's a face of concentration right here [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] am I supposed to be enjoying that this month yes it's okay to clapping oh my goodness existed fans at home with glue at the fan show but in the end [Applause] with nine - you which means only one person had more in any round but it's just not quite enough to American leaguers in the finals Alex Rios and Vladimir Guerrero despite the efforts of Albert pools he we started talking on Maxwell Smart he missed getting into the swing welcome back everybody Vladimir Guerrero and Alex Rios will be our finalists in this tea 2007 State Farm Home Run Derby Ryan Howard tried to defend putting on a brave before that griffeys won this thing a few times we've had some Barry Bonds has won this thing Mark McGwire has won at Cal Ripken's why don't we get some good names some great names but sometimes you have a surprise winner Bobby Abreu was completely surprised two years ago but wouldn't have been that's certainly your pick but Alex Rios certainly long shot Vladimir Guerrero certainly not a longshot well I think I've already won what I'm gonna do I'm gonna give you guys real okay I'll take him down cuz I don't have anybody have any but I'm gonna give you guys Joe you're a generous guy let me generous he is what I always liked about Vladimir is he's I think he's got this under control now remember we erased the total this is all a new scoreboard so even though Rios had three more than Guerrero they start even we have helped along the way with ESPN Deportes career mo Solis is with Vladimir Guerrero welcome Guillermo thank you very much Chris with Vlad Guerrero I'm gonna ask him first about his club it's not wearing gloves so glad no delicious want a no Chico Messina traditional and two carrera porque he says he never use gloves he feels much better without this look and he had a problem with his tape in the finger only I'm going to ask him now how is that finger exactly como come out by salado he says no problem the finger is good he's not feeling pain it was only the problem with the tape and last question flow for Vlad Guerrero have you ever hit a home run like that 503 feet alguna vez platic wear a saber Kanekalon quadrangular como si de Quinto Spears agonizing away but a communal remember though [Music] he says he remembers one 502 feet in Montreal but it was the closest back to you guys Thank You Guillermo yeah that was off Mike Hampton in the Big O in Montreal the Big O still got that flat on the sheet up there like they have the Willie start you know though yeah Stargell or the toy cannon Joe build Astrodome meanwhile Alex Rios anyway because he had to sit for a longer period of time and a radish bill smoking from his last 10 swings still get the 10 ounce once upon a time which is five in the finals remember it's a full lather when you're done here yeah so seven ounces our young Alex Rios with the Toronto Blue Jays run here or else glad and Jill gonna be the kings [Applause] [Music] don't watch out almost good I almost got Mitch over there Kennedy just can't hide them nobody gets it one-handed anyways you roll you don't need a glove all my guys here I love candy maldonado you think you can get it in that glove right now he's just trying to get it over the fence they couldn't get back how many swings you think this would take five all right that five was mine that was my choice - so I guess I'll go for there okay you're trying to make a clean snap well I figured three swings you do to chose five we'll see Vladimir Guerrero last round holders for 50 or more [Applause] [Music] teamate Garret Anderson won this back in 2003 you know what's happening all the American big pictures that a watcher says I've never seen glad I'm here take this mini kitchen oh yeah I mean he's taken a few good person it's a new flame yeah he's rad flat this time it's under this one well I guess I lost that part of it but that's okay so the press you lost yeah but the big but the big match you're still ahead Joe line Emir Guerrero has three outs take your time big fella Alex Rios would too [Music] [Applause] one thing you can report it to State Farm yes everybody so we can get to the body shop in the morning you know what this broadcast thing for you big [Music] [Applause] [Music] there's me one more bout it's either it's a little early don't jinx me I don't think it's no matter [Applause] everybody on their feet to see if this is it yeah she missed the center field [Applause] well let's go ahead and do it now glad we don't want the pressure to build up the he likes place remember y'all one homer for four outs [Applause] we've had nine children Vladimir Guerrero [Applause] one of whom you might remember was a fellow x-bow Wilton burro oh yeah gets under it pursued that Levin that was the one I thought I mean I thought approach I thought that ad [Applause] we still have a chance these guys are ready to storm the plane again but they've already done it [Music] [Applause] I think they're all a little stand up don't sit down and stand up flying clap okay [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] he's a bad man in the bag that's what I call it bad laughs Ali wins this here first place [Applause] on the west coast days to a West Coast player [Music] [Applause]
