Charlie Gilliam an owner of Gillman True Value Hardware in Batesville Indiana on behalf of 7,000 to the hardware stores across the nation gentlemen start your engines [Applause] well with the command the engines roared alive twelve of the world's greatest race car drivers representing three different series 8 from NASCAR's Winston Cup 3 from the Indy Racing Northern Light Series and of course the reigning and defending Busch Series Grand National Champion Dale Earnhardt jr. let's check in that on the pits quickly with Bill Weber one thing to keep in mind today these stock car drivers are used to having a spotter but they don't have one for this race they do have a radio in the car it has two channels one is directly linked to the tower where Winston Cup director Gary Nelson can talk to the entire field at one time the other channel is a direct link between the drivers and Jay Signori the president of the International Race of Champions those are their two radio frequencies no crew chief to talk to no true spotter just one up there for safety the let's know if something has happened on the track these drivers are in Dinah and identically prepared cars their goal is to have a safe race a good race one that is determined by driver talent and Bill thank you very much here's the track they will be attacking today we told you it's a two-mile d-shaped tri-oval the front straightaway 3,600 feet that's the your round part of the D the backstretch the straight part 20 242 feet the banking 18 degrees the turns 5 degrees in the back straightaway and 12 degrees in the tri-oval across the start/finish line and Benny Parsons 12 or 6 onboard cameras half the field carrying cameras today Dale Earnhardt starts back in 12 spot has an onboard camera right alongside Bobby Labonte has the true value onboard camera just six points behind Dale Earnhardt Dale Earnhardt jr. starts back in the seventh position he will have an onboard camera Jeff Gordon we look out the back bumper of his true value Pontiac also Greg ray on the roof of his Pontiac as the field starts rolling down pit road and on the front row outside of front row Eddie Cheever jr. we ride along with him alright the field rolling away third time ba they'll wave the green flag we'll see if her guard can come from back to the fuzz he did a year ago or possibly cheaper than ten more in the front row will stay there back in just a moment [Music] [Music] of the world did hear that please do [Music] who's on the pole down there I know it's uh my points whoever's leave the points that would be a buddy lazier is Dismore ii know he's 60 said the Greg race starts way back do you have that information Russ we don't know where is more cheaper Greg rare great start back Covina ninth-ranked it's the furthest back he started in a while this morning right we're on the war on the print home front row and they were done you guys [Music] back in Michigan Speedway I'm Jerry punch along with Benny Parsons Ray Evernham and Bill Weber bringing you round three the true value I rock twenty four tonight at rpm espn2 12:30 a.m. Eastern Time you can join reach Davis will give you updates of what's happening in Texas with the Northern Light Indy Racing League series I rock an ARCA highlight from here at Michigan of course a preview of Sunday's Kmart 400 NASCAR Winston Cup event with Bobby Labonte starting on the pole that's our p.m. tonight as tonight 12:30 a.m. Eastern Time on espn2 eyes 50 laps 100 miles and we saw last year the incredible finish for Earnhardt jr. and heard her a senior but there were also two other cars less than a car linked back so we had a three wide - for the checkered flag what can we expect today I think we expect to see more of exactly the same this is a very very wide racetrack and these guys I think Ray could race 303 abreast comfortably I believe so Benny and these cars are very comfortable here and I think Dale Earnhardt gave a good tip to those other guys that should have been listen about not abusing that right front tire keeping the car up high and keeping the tires cool until the race got going are there are the cars that remember these cars are identically prepared Pontiac Firebird the only thing different is the size of the seat in the car and the color of paint on the outside here's the starting grid mark Dismore and achiever in Row 1 Jarrett and Ray back in Row 2 Rusty Wallace and Jeff Gordon in fifth and six Earnhardt jr. and Tony Stewart then Burton and Martin and Bobby Labonte and Dale Jarrett rounding out the field back to the start in a moment [Music] [Music] you might could show that car sitting on pit road the beige guard the case there should be a first lap short crashing some ice bars her do badly continue he couldn't go and jump in that car correct [Music] cage too far hey they used to have to step two but I don't know that's it that's a good question [Music] the DJ was 8:26 fastest in qualifying who didn't make them [Music] welcome back to Michigan Speedway getting set for Iraq round three the true value International Race of Champions a couple of Indy Racing open light series teammates accident teammates our competitors on that series aren't is more and Eddie Cheever doing you're leading him down Cheever let eight laps in the last outing in Talladega he says he would love to be able to get his first Iraq win today and of course beside him Mark Dismore rookie in the International Race of Champions coming down to the green flag quickly and moved to the bottom of the racetrack that's Rusty Wallace the yellow car making it three wide and turn one and Benny Wallace down side-by-side with Dale Jarrett and Greg Reyes up in the gray stuff the loose stuff he has to be very tended for the gasoline makes sure that he doesn't spin he does that that was go down the back straightaway he's losing positions one after the other smart mark goes by mark Dismore the navy blue card now in third spot as you see this battle here developing Eddie Cheever the leader Jared is in seconds mark Dismore is third it is more given the challenge but Rusty Wallace right behind Rusty Wallace is Jeff Bork literally pushing but now Gord is in the middle right along with Jeff Gordon that's where this Jeff Burton as they come off the corner and look at guys be careful no spotters to warn them that there is a car on the outside it's Tony Stewart along green Carly back there make it move at the inside he moves down inside of Jeff Burton that's a lead for some for Carson file his part part aside Dale Earnhardt jr. side by side for fifth position Eddie Cheever continues to me Rusty Wallace is in second spot mark distant third [Applause] little challenge for second position there is Rusty Wallace taking this position away it is more hanging tough in third spot comes Jeff Burton down on the inside this is the battle for third [Applause] Jeff Bourdon get these colors to wear in my mind in a second uh-ho goes up the racetrack gets that push up here for almost gets on the side of this board talking about Jeff Gordon all the way down on the bottom of the racetrack on the apron as they are three wide we told you miss again very conducive to three wide racing at three wide finishing and Ray Evernham as he watched these cars you prepare these cars for a number of years the car rock mechanic they are very very stable on this racetrack they really are the first time I came here was 16 years ago believe they're not 1984 the abundant won that race with JC glory actually has some different bodywork they put on these cars to run at places like Michigan and Indianapolis versus Talladega and Daytona the owner not leads back to the field [Music] true value - limba three on Dale Earnhardt's the act Firebird shows you the miles per hour a little bit of touch of the brake pedal SMG fools tell ya what's up g-force our gravitational side wait Mulligan had more to the corners here we are banked at 18 degrees here at Michigan as this Dale Earnhardt going for the lead they're three wide Eddie Cheever jr. the middle Earnhardt on the inside rusty whilst on the outside of the owner jr. watching all this and Earnhardt jr. almost give it a little bit of drafting help to achieve urbanite goes in the bottom of the racetrack many verses in just five laps the senior nard has come from 12 to lead it here at Michigan and that is important because points are awarded for cars that lead the most laps every car laughs leaders will get bonus points well so much for taking it easy and saving your right front tire on any cheaper roaring back tea for the 1998 Indy 500 winner said I've learned a lot in about six high rock races from last year the to this year so the inside of mallet on a draft fire an ardent turn three [Music] the owner jr. watches the battle for the lead [Music] Eddie Cheever jr. Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt jr. on board roof camera for the 25 year old Dale Earnhardt jr. defending Busch Series champion an already a two-time winner in points paying events this year and Winston Cup as a rookie let's check his mile-per-hour as it goes down the backstretch a Michigan Speedway up to 170 almost 170 he will drop down now to a low speed of around 156 miles per hour before he starts accelerated off the corner many a song just tapped the brake there a little bit the IROC cars have a unique rear end type situation instead of using a detroit type locker they use a different type of the gear in that rear end or not they're getting before death more than wanker to move down there and rabbit have you talked about how driving styles would be effective here we've seen our heart make the move at Jeff Gordon letting his car roll in the corners he's equally prepared cars it does make a difference going to be a big factor in age a driver very important you look at guys like Dale Earnhardt jr. Jeff Gordon Mark Martin who've been recently with enforcers you mentioned the Busch Series they are a 350 cubic-inch v8 engines with 390 carburetors running about 500 horsepower so they're about 200 horsepower lesson on stock up car maybe 450 horsepower less and either missing lead machines that these open Melges are accustomed to so the momentum is very very important either keeping the momentum and the miles per hour over at Michigan Dale Turner told us in his pre-race interview with Bill Weber the he was going to run high trying to save that right foot there he is filled up the air pressure in that right front tire when that when you build up that air pressure close the car down the less horsepower car has the harder it is to overcome that so what they're trying to do is take the highest line around the clock around the corner where the radius is the biggest so they don't have to turn the steering wheel very far they are a single-file here in Detroit Michigan the true value International Race of Champions round three it is a pair of Bernards father and son leading the way with Gordon Cheever and Martin rounding out the top five back with more in just a moment [Applause] to begin a family get disbarred waters recognize that either they get jammed up pretty good there early [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] back in Michigan Speedway here in Brooklyn Michigan beautiful panoramic shot of this massive two-mile D shaped oval courtesy of one of America's most enduring corporate images the Goodyear blimp floating overhead today the spirit of Goodyear is one of seven airships in the Goodyear blimp fleet thanks to the fine folks at Goodyear for giving us those wonderful overhead shots and guys a moment ago Earnhardt jr. getting a little bit racy but dad put him back in position did in fact Lidl Hampus ABT ver tries to get by earn our Judy goes in the second spot they wouldn't even let him have to Talladega and your ghost Cheever trying to take that lead from Dale Earnhardt Cheever ramming International Race of Champions a year ago is history so third wasn't the folly of the 99 season and guys I believe that Dale might be taking Eddie Cheever to school little bit he's making him stay on the bottom making them overheat his tires whoa whoa almost of kind look at the G ver just blast down the straightaway Jr in the light green car [Music] [Applause] on board with Eddie Cheever jr. oh and almost in contact once again whoa and we got one Connor spinning on a turn for looks to be Greg ray is looped at it back he didn't hit anything is sideways gets the car gathered back in and the caution waving for the defending Indy Racing League champion Greg Greg getting sideways in turn four then pretty good job not to hit anything get the car straightened back out and he probably has some flat tires on that vehicle so he's very wise to slowly take the car back to the garage area we see the right front tire is flat because caution flag laps in the true value out rock series don't count so he's not losing anything if he stays on pit road for two or three laps I'll show you what happened a moment ago and one has to wonder if he didn't possibly have a tire going down he's been falling back in the field from the very first lap of the race maybe that left front locked up there he gets the car gathered back in kept it off the outside wall got it straightened up he was completely sideways through turn for a moment ago showed a lot of talent a lot of savvy to keep that car from spinning around and backing into the wall well we are showing caution here at Michigan Speedway and reminder these caution laps do not count you get 50 green flag laps 100 miles back to this tomorrow [Music] do you think he might have had a tire going when he went away up high and pulled the very first lap of the race here and went by just-just Greg Rael come in Jerry did you want to bring up about they have tires match match match match four laps around halfway I think he said No [Applause] [Music] okay all right [Music] [Music] Mangan Michigan Speedway under caution we're just a moment ago thirty-three-year-old in the racing Northern Lights series reigning champion Greg ray and a problem the Indy Racing League champion Greg ray awfully good in the first two events this year but a moment ago Benny Parsons yet this problem in turn four [Applause] I don't know ray cars coming off the coursing a bleep Cindy fine on a sudden around egos who ever have any idea what happened no speculation that he had a tire going down Benny just the fact that he did spin obviously you can tell that he needed four fresh tires he came in he got those four tires they looked over the car made a safety check it was fine sent him back out of course he does maintain his spot on the lead lap and he does have four fresh tires and a reminder for those of you at home who say well that's great he gets to come in and get four brand new tires that's not the case at all he has to put on tires they actually have tires in those racks there that are marked lap ten eleven twelve thirteen he came in on lap number thirteen and they put tires on his car that have 13 laps on the racetrack to keep the playing field level right Bill Weber absolutely Jerry in fact you if you take a look at this set right here you can see that this would have been four laps one through six saying for this up here they just took the ones that they would need to put on great race car that had the same amount of laps already run on them that he would have if he had stayed on the track like the other guys that are on the lead lap Jay Signori trying to keep the playing field as level as possible Dale Earnhardt has come from 12 to lead the show here in the 48 year old seven-time Winston Cup champion did it a year ago from 12 starting position to win it here by seven one thousandth of a second and he was being shown as the leader it looked like that after right along with Eddie Cheever and these cars will start jump double file the restart will be double file and look like the Cheever and Earnhardt jr. was really wondering who might be the second-place car who might be the third place car because they run around on the cosplay almost every lap side-by-side but finally the NASCAR officials did in fact say the chief would be second earn our junior would be third and Mark Martin who has been so good in the true value out rock series for last three or four years we see him back there in four spot mark is good at Michigan period he's adhesive one of the tough guys to beat here with the Winston Cup car mark Barton aforetime IROC champion I'd career I want victory see cable to the point of making it my fifth championship a year ago winning the finale in Indianapolis Motor Speedway there is J Signori the president of the International Race of Champions they work very very hard to get these cars as equal as possible they have test drivers are used to a Marcus Jim saw durante Hillenburg and Dick Trickle to run lap after lap at this racetrack and get him hopefully within 1/10 of a second each for each one of these drivers and there is our leader Dale Earnhardt senior Eddie Cheever in second spot the younger Earnhardt in third Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon Tony Stewart Bobby Labonte rusty Jeff Burton and Dale Jarrett as we get set for a restart here on lap number 14 and Earnhardt goes to the a / the racetrack to restart a thing to make sure these guys would not drive hundred [Music] and already Cheever did not get off to a very good start and Mark Martin drives up to the third spot talk about momentum being very very important Cheever didn't have the momentum internal all right now we Levani on the inside achiever but Cheever will get old drafting help from Jeff Gordon in this purple car she pull up pretty loose there denied we started well he's now he's up in the gray yeah it's gonna get real loose Turner's will get very very loose he's got it going now and restarting one of these cars is actually an art I'm sure they accelerate much different than an IRL car it seemed that Greg Ray had that same problem on the initial story cheaper we get him to come back into his own and pull away a couple of car lengths in front of Jeff Gordon brought three cars pulling away there is any chamber looking at his windshield at the lead three cars Earnhardt senior and junior and Mark Martin those are the three cars first second and third and about six or seven car lights back to Eddie Cheever at four spot [Music] writing on board with the leader Dale Earnhardt as his son is right behind him trying to get by trying that all little contact there a little more contact says come on dad come on dad I want to lead this race come on dad go on hey dad it's me yep remem remember me for 25 years I've waited a be shot to play a little bumper tag with the Intimidator and now I'm back here that was so neat watching the Sun do that to his father he's got embarrassed not only his father he's his boss well that's true our Earnhardt senior and junior Earnhardt jr. who led a lap here last year and came within seven thousands of a second of getting his first IROC win and here comes Mark Martin Martin on the inside of Dale jr. and he's got some help with Cheever [Music] now mark mark trying to go over the front that's Bernards worst nightmare in the a true value I Roxy is Mark Martin but here comes earn our back on the inside but now Martin has a momentum on the outside and hopefully he hopefully able to maintain that position they are two by two down the back straightaway 2,200 feet here goes her heart again they is door to door identical cars Pontiac Firebird as you watched Jeff Gordon now trying to pick his way up through traffic in fifth position I'm sorry cheer that's exactly what I was going to say Jeff Gordon fists body oh he's got a great run he dives down to the inside now folks that is what drafted and they carry the momentum on the bottom of the racetrack wherever damp Gordon a classic move used the bottom of the racetrack let it slide up to keep the momentum on his car again Jeff is another driver that's very good here and he's very good at using the draft to what he needed to do was get that thing back up in the top [Music] once again riding along with any Cheever making the pass on her North jr. hope that was the ultimate slide jump off two cornered around 165 miles per hour Cheever just kind of slid up in front of Dale jr. now it's Eddie Cheever but her an Arjuna gets to bump down the straightaway and these guys were able to get by Jeff Gordon just a couple of moments ago this was Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt jr. there we go inside the car Larry will contact off the corner and that we saw the contact watching wave to his son say not too much that jr. house good stuff back Eddie to back at each other some hand signals going between father and son and I laugh about that one tonight hopefully hard senior he is the leader the defending IROC champion we saw Bobby back in the gold car once again a ride-along with Eddie Cheever jr. who's worked his way back up to the third spot I saw Bobby Labonte just won't go in that gold car he's back in eighth spot there he is he said got closest to her nard in the board's damaged we see that money just slide away from him right now and you don't hear him lift the throttle at Albany they just hammer down and hold up Ray Evernham talked about everyone's do I will just touch the brake just to try to slow the car down and keep it on the bottom of the racetrack well it keeps every Wren locked up a little bit and it determines the way the car gets in the corner Eddie Cheever has done an impressive job busy he's got a real good car he's keeping it up front but we are just tire pressure changes make a difference alright a pair of Winston Cup regulars in a former Indianapolis 500 winner that's the front three in round three of the International Race of Champions true value series back with more in just a moment [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Blackie's on dirt Loretta bottom [Music] [Music] I try and stay away from that bein that's too technical for me me too [Music] [Applause] International Race of Champions the faces of 12 of the world's greatest racecar drivers competing at Michigan and we have a lead change here Benny Mark Martin is in front Eddie Cheever jr. is in second Dale Earnhardt is back to third and still has a problem with his son Dale Earnhardt jr. here's what happened coming off turn four Mark Martin gets that great run Cheever goes with him and just kind of left they learn art out there in no man's land they both go down and turn one and through the slide job now we say cheaper and earn art and here comes junior on the apron of the racetrack goes almost of the grass look at the oil grab these throws up board for that second spot it takes all the way the greatest lose Earnhardt jr. want to move the daring young third-generation drivers a moment ago Greg Ray had come back on to pit road can't believe there was a problem on Greg race car he came in for a tire change and if you just joined us that car side tires and there's that white car the white Pontiac Firebird they go by of Greg ray Jerri sometimes when you spin a car like that it does something to the front end it'll either the ball joints or tie rods in the car just won't drive correctly after that and in the back seat beat battles up with Jeff that will be inside [Music] let's check into the pits with Bill Weber who can update us on Greg ray bill well Jay it's just as Ray had speculated Greg ray is called in and said that that basically brought the car back in and said the car was news it's just not handling as well as it was prior to his spin came back in under green got another set of tires after coffee DJ Signori and went back out on the racetrack but it was a loose condition and continues to be for Greg Greg unfortunately all he can do now is just try to ride it out and hope that something will happen you'll be able to get back to other cars maybe it's an extra points to prepare to show its points here that an important part of this for a series [Music] on board with Eddie Cheever jr. Eddie Cantor jr. is in third and we see mark dismore in the dark blue car back there and Rusty Wallace these cars are running and eleventh so obviously Rusty's having some struggles with his car today because a very experienced master I wish yet he would have the a build his step front obviously the car not exactly for time I Rock winter in the past here he want three races in 1991 also Anna went back in 1989 having his troubles today [Applause] [Music] we see these cars go down in the corner to 172 73 miles per hour and obviously we just don't pull the g-force you would at Daytona Talladega going to this corner it's just a very comfortable nice easy racetrack to drive nice and smooth nice corner radius is Betty and again g-force basically means that you can corner go around the corner at more than your own weight so these cars it looks like their corner at one point to G so you'd have 120 pounds of cornering force but I don't weigh under 20 unfortunately it's not what you were getting at no that's not a penny onboard camera for Jeff Gordon as he looks forward at Jeff Burt Tony Stewart has worked his way up to the fifth position [Music] guys take a look at Eddie Cheever died last night he called ESPN radio and said that he was excited about coming to Michigan but he called this race for the Winston Cup stars and I don't think he's getting his behind kick right his car has been very good the owner jr. tries to look on the outside of Marc Marc trying to take that lead side by side off of turn two there's Cheever back there in line Earnhardt senior behind him make some contact trying to find an easy way out there to level the bottom of the racetrack now they are two by two Martin and Earnhardt jr. than the red car is cheering appeal would hazard North senior there single file from fish bottle to the first four positions Tony Stewart Jeff Burt and Jeff Gordon now jump in the back back back and it's still Mark Martin Dale Earnhardt jr. Dale Earnhardt Eddie Cheever jr. never see Stewart Jeff Burton son Jr for one reason because he thinks that's the best place to be we see a senior up on the higher side of the racetrack like he said okay 20 laps to go here at Michigan and round three the true value of national race of Champions is still a dead heat excuse me money up front between jr. and now all these cars are just like they started back nose to tail as Martin and Chiva on the inside three wide off to still three wide Eddie Cheever comes all the way on the inside of the racetrack Cheever has no drafting out Martin as to making the sandwich in a little about to wreak our draft as Tony Stewart now mentioned three wide on the outside here comes Jeff Gordon on the inside Gordon down on the bottom will try to get Cheever a little better help chamber wall she's up in front of Mark Martin and right up in front of Tony Stewart goes Eddie Cheever [Music] of a sudden Mark Martin had aspirations of spending that just barely misses the nose I've earned our juniors cars he goes up line and turn one and here comes Bernard back on the outside Eddie Cheever says he studies the films up high rock events he sits in front of a VCR and running him back and forth like a football coach watching plays yes today he made two catholic booths in the last lap to come from fourth to first but can t hang on and now sudden any junior retakes the lead but now Mark Martin is trying to fight his way back that's Martin on the inside in that dark green car Rock series just a moment ago the championship and the money but right now he sees Earnhardt the leader of the points now in front of him not behind him [Music] [Applause] Eddie Cheever got to be thinking about looking at that mirror and seeing Earnhardt senior sitting there with that big mustache just smiling away [Music] what a credit to Jay Signori and his group for nine cars to be running that close together on this racetrack this many laps and here goes Bart Bart trying it on the outside of Tony Stewart drives up on the outside and takes us by the way well the eddy chamber the 1998 winner of the Indianapolis 500 showing away here in race three of two by you I rock 24 could Cheever hold on to me another first-time winner we'll find out in just a moment she was got a good car today right yeah buddy's keeping them on the bottom too much all our heart is just watching he's just floating up there Cheever have a good car wood until about 5:00 to go to a big logan oh you know that's passed down there on that yellow line buddy but he's using them tires up 50 laps on a set here [Music] why [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] he might be getting a little bit tight [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] welcome back to Michigan speed while here in Brooklyn Michigan I'm Jerry punch along with Benny Parsons and wherever damn and bill ever ring round three of I rock 24 the truth Mark Martin third spot our leader continues to be Eddie Cheever jr. and guys Eddie McKay Cheever born in this country grew up in Italy became an Italian go-kart champion but in 1978 at the age of 20 he entered Formula One racing as there is Jeff Burton's car off the pace and he is headed down pit road Greg Bramblett has been in on the pit road a couple of times he's now four laps down as Jeff Burton brings his car Jeff Burton in the pits and they are side by side and his Tony Stewart I'm car on the inside and Earnhardt jr. on the outside is the battle for the fourth position Jeff Gordon on the outside here's Dale Jarrett on the inside and Stewart goes in front but meanwhile they're three wide [Music] the body trying to push Jeff Gordon right trying to get a push the bail cherry in the meantime the first three are getting away those guys need to line up if they're going to catch up and they'll learn artists taking over that second spot more continues to run second three cars break it away here it'll be ten pardonnez Martin now goes to the bottom of the racetrack for second position [Music] that's the view from the bumper cam of Eddie Cheever for car let's back to the battle for second spot there you see the battle for second spot still side by side Mark Martin Dale Earnhardt and Martin squeeze up Kenny pull slide job but no Bernard has that run off the corner and while these guys are side by side Ray Evernham eddie cheever likes what he sees he's pulling away now the advantage is now 7 Carla [Applause] do this at Michigan so many times he rides around the top of the racetrack keeps his tires cool makes the other guys stay on the bottom with five to go we'll see where is it that's the voice of Ray Evernham three-time Winston Cup champion crew chief and a former IROC mechanic with some great racing out on the track Jeff Burton you're out of it however what happened something broke in the engine just you know these guys do a great job building these cars and their mechanical every now and then they'll break how was the ride it was good at uh I was trying to take it early take it easy early to save the tires and then was gonna try to make a run I went to make my run I couldn't go anywhere it's real hard to fast [Applause] well nine laps to go and that's the battle for second position Mark Martin of the green car all over the racetrack and rate right now dealer our junior has fallen back to 8th position it in the would you think all that charge that he did early on has caused his tires to go away that's his problem certainly fitting is to put a radial tire built up it changes the spring rate in the car and if the right front tire builds up it it's like putting a stiffer right front spring which makes the car tighter which slows an IROC car down a lot the other thing it does is just lose overall grip we see Earnhardt still continued Jarett and Jeff Gordon that's about it for the fifth position as Bobby the bond of that gold car we saw just a nose event pontiac firebird stick up there there they are the three of them Labonte gets at drafting help from Jeff Gordon goes by Dale Jarrett and achieve your juniors tilray running that yellow line gets dead in front of her nard and mark mark he's keeping that thing on the bottom that's the shortest way around it is the fastest but again it's also abusing this tire Cheever Earnhardt's bumper cam looking back at Mark Martin are now looking down at Mark Martin who will make a charge and he make it to mark you see what ironheart does when he when you pull your car down against the other guys car at PAX Aaron it slows the car down and now Mark Martin is in jeopardy of he's the spot to tony stewart that lime green cards that come off the core and stewart sticks a nose in there takes a spot away and here comes Bobby Labonte [Applause] running out of laps well Ray Evernham has said that they will Earnhardt has saved this car for these last five laps let's just see if that's right about seventh are we clear still side-by-side here goes Jeff Gordon on the bottom of the racetrack trying to get underneath Dale Jarrett for the second spot Tony Stewart trying to get Donnie Stewart coming off that dominating performance last Sunday up at Dover Delaware he finished second in the season-opening IROC event at Daytona - guess who they held are not senior they are session in the final five laps at Michigan loving this and come on guys please get side by side oh they're lined up but here comes earn our angle what was that all about trying to find a way and trying to intimidate Tony Stewart to not turn the steering wheel at the right spot well Tony Stewart is trying to thorn in in Earnhardt's plan [Music] reigning NASCAR Winston Cup work in the air Tommy Stuart shuttled off as a battle for fourth position as Bobby Labonte now has climbed the four spot [Music] and Mark Martin is given a challenge from Dale Jarrett [Music] Bob in the bondages moved in behind they'll learn art but Labonte has no little after they heard art as he has those bows points and guys what a day it could be for any McKay Cheever Cheever jr. if he can hold on and win in Michigan and then fly cross-country and win in the Indy Racing more light series race Jeeter the last open wheel driver to win at Michigan Al Unser jr. back in 1995 and it marched out on the inside trying his best trying to get a position by trying to get violent body trying to get bayern are trying to get in position to the overall championship come the Brickyard let us Motor Speedway in August and with to go eddie cheever still got that car on the bottom so he's obviously making a liar out of me you gotta believe the whole style you cheaper crew watching in Texas have got to be jumping up and down saying Michigan looks up at Earnhardt Labonte and Martin you've done something you paid on Dean Martin Dean if he wants that spot I'll be about to lose a spot to Jerry Dale Jarrett makes it three wide Martin in the middle Bobby Labonte up high final lap [Applause] the recent champions a year ago that was a three-wide finish Cheever has the advantage seven car lengths over Tony Stewart in second spot Dale Earnhardt senior in third and they are side by side for four spot Bernard come to Brickyard time here comes your finesse bob down to the line to the wire and eddie cheever will become the 36 different winner so Race of Champions history tony stewart finished his second for the second time in three events internationalize the champions competition his Cheever who takes the win stewart our pardon and Dale Jarrett in the top five 42 year old Eddie Cheever from Orlando Florida from the Indy Racing Northern Light series has become the 19 different Rock winner at Michigan in 26 events and Bobby Labonte rides up to get steeper and thumbs up and just a moment we'll come back to hear from a very happy Eddie Cheever who is one I rock round three [Music] he said where'd I go now you see it he was out the official he said what do I do now and he said go down to Victory Lane man you won okay that's what I so much for my theories yeah man all day all right okay push it up stop too early there I thought for sure they were gonna eat him up [Applause] back at
