and starting outside the front row the NASCAR grand national champion from Franklin Tennessee the Pepsi challenger Darrell Waltrip Darrell you are one of five drivers here today with what we would consider a very new chassis built by a Dennis spring obviously it worked well to your liking yesterday well I'm impressed with the car because it's built a lot like a grand national car it has what we refer to as a is a Ford front end on it that's rack and pinion steering call overs and it really is something that I'm familiar with to assess your driving style aggressive can we anticipate a drive right to the front for Darrell Waltrip well I'm in the front so I hope I can just stay here I'm gonna run hard it plays a little bit of lap money and the car is running well and if I don't get blown away here by some of these guys that are used to run here all the time I'm gonna run hard and try to lead this thing obviously the track conditions will determine what the weather is like it is hot it is very humid and that will play both on the car thus looking to the track and to the driver fatigue well these cars are very hot the hitters run over the engine over the top and now to right side of the car you get a lot of heat in the cockpit but you know it's a short race only 200 miles so that's not bad when you used to run in 500 all right outside on number 2 number 11 Darrell Waltrip thank you Darrell and starting outside Row 2 back over here is the defending champion of this race Dick Trickle he is driving the familiar number 99 but the color scheme has changed this year the color scheme now is red and yellow if we can get dick over here dick if you will what happened to the white night well we had to return the cars to junior Handley this weekend come up with this car here just in a hurry rusty had a backup car it's very competitive we're very happy that I just got it they're going into next week we'll be building our own new car and have it out by the next day is a show and Rusty Wallace is backup car yeah qualified rusty so can we anticipate Dick Trickle getting faster as the race progresses well the car feels real good and I figure competitive but that's my day I'll win if it isn't we'll do the best we can okay Bob to the top names starting up in front will have pre-race activities from State Fair Park in Milwaukee in just a moment the first 24 qualifiers now the first 24 top 24 will automatically locked into the starting lineup and then the others made the way into the field by competing in two qualifying races as you can see the cars are lined up toward the inside of the racetrack and we're just moments away from the start one of the finest fields ever assembled and it's also an interesting story just below the main paragraph although it's a story about our build riders this weekend his miles Tom Dan he has both drivers driving you let's go racing [Music] it is the story of Dennis Prinz of nearby Germantown Wisconsin the suburb of Milwaukee listen to his list of drivers for this weekend Joe Ruttman Darrell Waltrip Mark Martin David Pearson and Alan Kulwicki he's been building race cars for about 15 years and finally he says the fraternity has recognizes machines with command the start engines of course has been given in the 40 cars and will be competing in today's race get ready to go [Music] the cars are started the crew members raised their hands indicating that that particular car has started and now the signal to move out they pulled out of the pit area onto the racetrack and we get set to go 200 miles of what should be tremendous exciting competition johnny plots the official starter for the American speed Association evidencing the individual drivers with a checkered flag to proceed on to the race course this will be a 200-lap race in a one-mile course 200 miles now pit stops are not nearly as critical in type of racing is the our grand national racing they are important don't get me wrong these cars are capable of going the a few on just one hit stop there will be caution flags and look for most of the top competitors to duck into the pits on almost every caution flag inject their tyres to make now let's take a look at the starting lineup for today's race in the front row from the Cena Wisconsin qualifying at one hundred sixteen point eight nine eight Jim Sauter outside of row number one from Franklin Tennessee Darrell Waltrip in the second row car number 97 driven by Alan Kulwicki of Milwaukee Wisconsin outside of row number two from Wisconsin Rapids Wisconsin Dick Trickle in car 99 in row number three car number 66 driven by Rusty Wallace from Valley Park Missouri and number 50 too much Miller from walk Michigan in the fourth row car number 88 Mike Eddie from Midland Michigan and car number 22 Bobby Allison from Hueytown Alabama in the fifth row Joe Ruttman in car 19 and number 60 David Pearson in the sixth row car number 12 Gary Balu and eighty-four pops in occur in the seventh row Harold fair in car number 81 and Mark Martin in number two in the eighth row car number zero Tom Jones and seventy-nine Bobby daughter in the ninth row car number 18 Mike Miller and number 24 Jody Ridley drove 14 now mil and 80 driven by Bob straight in the eleventh row car number 38 Steve Ceylon and number 23 Davey Allison and row number 12 number 51 and Marni [Music] thrown our number seven Don Gregory and number forty Terry sitting her in the car number 92 - by Willie Gaytan and number 21 David Greene jujhar in the 15th row Rick Carelli in car number 6 and Church purchase Eyre in number 56 in the sixteenth row Dennis and carnival money and Tom Harrington in number four the 17th Rome for nine and muttley Krakowski in car 27 the eighteenth row and Evans in car number 93 and buddy's rockin 3519 throw Brad Hamilton 49 and Mike Patrick an eight and in the twentieth rokar 2016 mom sack number 19 can't stop her another one of those significant sidebar story here is the team of Biggi Prejean is a Cajun from down south in Louisiana as we look at the starting field file by for the last time under a parade speed conditions and they are going by you see how she'll one of the local drivers passing by there one of the three cars that was entered by Nikki crazy on that cage and we were talking about in incidently fights oil-rig fires for a living is Rusty Wallace one of the pre-race favourites he is one of the 14 races here his teammates for today did triple and David Pearson all three of the cars are painted exactly alike there is Rusty Wallace in the red yellow number 66 and coming up there is David Pearson in the red and yellow number 66 I'll remember the third car in this triumvirate this team that we entered this weekend will be number 99 Dick Trickle David Pearson has not run a si races all that often has worked very hard here this week he qualified yesterday with a 200-pound weight penalty there were some imperfections in the design of the car to the aerodynamics they have worked on those imperfections over the night he expects to be faster during the race today [Music] there's an interesting story if you've been following racing in the racing newspapers the past 12 months you've heard of the plight of Gary Balu was involved in a legal battle with the authorities for a while it appeared as though Balu was not going to be able to drive race cars certainly in the 1983 and he maybe even on to the rest of his career but that has been put on the back burner his trial will be coming to court sometime in the next 12 to 24 months and in the interim Gary blue the authorities to drive in automobile racing now he is dropped out of the Racing ranks at least on a temporary basis but he's been farming around the country running all pro races this there is Johnny Potts and he's signaling the drivers to go right and left and singling them into their to a fresh start for today's race now our cameras right down there with Johnny on the racetrack the next time they come around they could get the green flag Balu has been running all pro races in the south means running some hardcore races the course shows up at most of the major day a day raises been working very hard on this chassis at the Bob champagne raising and enology born out of space exploration has improved our racing out of his dad stable actually this weekend with the sponsorship that also adorns the super speedway cars we've had a car come to a stop in the middle of church number two like it's Bob straight in car number 80 who for some unexplained reason has come to a dead stop in the middle of turn number two so this could certainly play a part in whether or not we got to start this time around there is straight the man who started on the outside pole of this race a year ago one of the consistent top Tim runners in a si at no wins in 1982 but he did have a pole he's a guy that a little disappointed really in his result so far in 1983 but has always shown the potential now pop getting underway under his own power odd was enormously slow pace laugh I was convinced that the cars we're entering their face lap but the speed never really think straight he's catching up with the rest of the field and will that was 20th of starting position but we will go getting free here comes the field off of turn number four down the main straightaway once again the car to the inside the blue car in Vegas Pepsi challenger number 11 driven by Darrell Waltrip in the second row will be Alan Kulwicki car number 97 a veteran design him and wrote Dick Trickle the offending champion of this event in car number 99 then in row number three Rusty Wallace at 66 and Butch Miller and 52 and fob straights problems our continuing for empathy is stalled over there in turn number three and four to the inside of the racetrack some of the safety officials from the Wisconsin auto racing incorporated are giving them push and hopefully we'll get them back under way but certainly problems plaguing Bob straight before the green flag drops Olivia missed the starting lineup I tell you this is an all-star field to say the least they're at least 12 or 14 drivers who have the potential to win this Jim Sun who started right now leading the points in art go up basically Wisconsin founded organization hollow solder won a couple of races about a week ago and was penalized actually disqualified because he had an oversized engine but solder whom we saw run in the top three at the Daytona 500 a couple years ago he comes into this race with a lot of confidence needless to say Walker feels good about being here they just there's Davey Allison we had begun to develop that story a couple minutes ago just before a straight stalled on the racetrack this is davies first in pure a sa race he's run a couple of combined a sa hall pro shows in the south and it's an important race for me best chance to do before the hometown of his dad sponsoring instead sponsor of the car the car appears to be competitive and also there are some our team members were involved in brewing this week is over there is Bob strafing the 34 driver from lost more Illinois yes he does he drops it is good the racetrack meanwhile the worst the race number 22 ribbon by Ken London gets ready to go as he is awaiting the signal from the aasa' officials as to whether or not people be able to start in this race the foot being taken off of D a Bob Strait machine this race is the gathering of the clan the warring nations from across this great land have come together at the Milwaukee fingermark and there's a guy who is the lone representative of his hometown of Denver Colorado the name is Rick Carelli if you have not heard it before but you're a racing fan recorded Rick Carelli here's a guy who won one of the most prestigious late-model pavement races this year that copper classic out in Phoenix he just knocked him dead out there he's been running very strong back home in Colorado and Idaho to ward major league professional automobile racing running up and down the west coast we found that going pretty uphill here this weekend he started 29th position had to work his way to the starting lineup Bob Strait is out of the pit area trying to catch up with the field as it goes down the backstretch meanwhile the great the Milwaukee 200 it is the pole-sitter jib Sutter second position is Darrell as they head for turn number three on the first circuit of 200 Jeff slaughter still continuing to lead wall terminal within seconds [Music] it's a common charge and show everything you have early on probably not yourself as much as you can really car race although in 1983 piecing a NASCAR race has become Sina was constantly his race driving lsj Firebird now the breakdown of the field here today there are 17 Firebirds and 23 Camaros in competition the first alternate was a Thunderbird however he was unable to go because Bob Strait did pull out onto the track at the last minute and joined the competition they continue to run it followed closely by Carol Walker fourth is Rusty Wallace driving fifth is Dick Trickle and going in six position is Mike Eddie in car number 88 they come off of turn number four about to complete lap number four and a good close battle up front between in on the color yellow there is ten million Nikki preys on race right behind them in 12 position the winningest driver of all time and a essay competition Bobson occur the first two drivers below and there goes Balu to the inside of Pearson as they come down the banks right away David Pearson Falls landing the for now senator moves to the inside of Pearson down the backs already he'll try to make the move going into turn number three but the higher groove appears to be the one that David Pearson is in now senator moves up once again to challenge toward the inside senator and right away the position Seneca moves into eleven Pearson here's the me darrell waltrip running make that Alan Kulwicki now running in second position and darrell waltrip is third Alan Kulwicki moves around darrell waltrip on that last lap to go in the second position and Waltrip now has his rearview mirrors fallen members when they come down the baby the position at this point of the race work behind the wheel great technician the field is lapping around the Ola at about a hundred Crower that's about three miles per hour slower than they qualified but at this stage of the race kind of what you're spending followed by my getting little bit of business darrell waltrip there is the sixty-six rusty this is the battle for third and fourth position here in turn of before waltrip going hi and Rusty Wallace looking to the inside they come out of the fourth turn and right away this time this Pearlie perhaps just a cat and mouse wait and see game the temperature nearing 90 degrees right now I also not only are they taking it easy on the car taking it easy here in the early going Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace third and as a human form I don't think Waltrip is getting quite enough sighs no but Daryl doesn't seem to be able to stay down in the bottom [Music] coming out of turn number four new leaders headed up by Jim Sauter are putting just a little bit of if solder the leader followed by a litter darrell waltrip fourth is Rusty Wallace the battle you're watching right now that plays the law sixth place my getting is number 52 driven flying Bushmiller in eighth position Bobby Allison ninth is Joe Ruttman and going 10th on the field as Gary below in car number 12 now 11 laps have been completed in the Milwaukee 200 some of the slower car and being left by the leaders Alan Kulwicki goes low in turn number one and tries to move to the inside of gym slaughterman cannot pick up as they had to hit the brakes in turn number two latencies lead something a little bit going into turn number three are leading the race there blue car that is really beginning to turn the jam on if there's a roller Lucar second started this race in 12th position in the last lap he passed 2,000 quickly the lead at the drop of the green flag leading and we are about to complete left number 14 Alan Kulwicki is running in second place we'll be back with State Fair Park in just a moment back at Milwaukee where chef Sauter continues to lead Carolee in the pit area who is with Bobby Allison Street mechanic Gary no it's really a problem the cars on the right side right now a little bit of a boys inspector and again right now I we'll wait see what happened next the cars running good if the long-waited the leader decide hopefully and you know when a time comes to make a pit stop we'll decide whether we need to take my voice in right now Bobby Allison is running at night position but has his hands full with mom senator senator moving to the United turn number four and momentarily moved around Bobby Allison and we'll see how they file into turn number one it looks like that indeed Bob hitting her has moved in tonight Bobby Allison falls back to 10th we've also had asked Randall for musicians up front as Darrell Waltrip is falling back solder continues to lead to Wikia second Rusty Wallace is now running third and fourth position is Dick Trickle moon is by Getty and now it's exposition is Darrell Waltrip and would Miller 8th position belongs to Gary below so Darrell Waltrip and her number 11 falling back just a little bit here early stages of this race you can see him there in this screen at the top of the screen as the drivers go around car number 27 by monthly courtesy of Perry Ohio one of the back markers in this race there is Waltrip car number 11 is the fallback he's now back [Music] senator again please right now on garel welcome senator drops alone number one now but for the black there it is turn number two out of turn number two down the backstretch instead occur [Music] he does not want the leaders to get too far [Music] for cars who are slowly [Music] for Michigan continues to move so does Jim slaughter and carnival 497 these are your first two positions and car number 49 brings his car in for at least the second time friends out Floyd Wisconsin it looks like the Campbell is having problem would he come out of turnover for the wiki staying right up on the back bumper of that 83 fire Firebird here this afternoon those cars run nose to tail turn number two and down we've completed 21 laps of 200 much duska wiki have how much the Sutter have everything that he has that control today them is playing just a mother minimum wage about the possible problems of Darrell Waltrip is he is coming back let's go to Gary Lee for some other information Bob does possible model there's still a question mark as we heard Darrell's name this race he wanted to get out in front and stay on but right now he's dropping back but he is saying nothing about any problems of the cockpit he is in radio contact with the crew but right now the crew is not really sure if there is a handling problem if it's tires if it's chassis and this one they're just simply waiting for Darrell to say something on the radio I have watched enough races that there and to know that their long-term is a very smart race driver of go ahead perhaps just taking it easy at this stage of the race keeping the leaders inside not letting them get too far ahead there is Bobby Allison in car number 22 long enough made me in complete control you never know and even if so important that you running now laughs no they continue to run in the same order dan Allison tips on our number 5 and Alan Kulwicki and carnivore analysis having a around the number four car driven by Tom Harrington now he moves to the inside coming over the fourth turn if both of them are England massive they go down and deterred running very slowly down the backstretch we noted last time around running slowly well that car is almost at a standstill now and the end of the backstretch so Bobby Allison on lap 25 Bobby Allison the current he won this race back in 1978 and they came here this weekend voted we go the engine builder and they had high hopes for this weekend I think there's wealth to this point and the yellow flag is being displayed because of the stalled car of Bobby Allison he pulled off of the racetrack down into the grass and turn number three to fill that so the first yellow of the afternoon comes out of be shown to Jim Sauter and car number five Alan Kulwicki is running in second position Rusty Wallace third Dick Trickle is fourth and mikeetty is fifth sixth is butch Miller seventh Gary Beaulieu eighth position is number eleven Darrell Waltrip in ninth his car 84 puff senator and tenth until he dropped out of the race Bobby Allison lucky bobby allison is into the pit area and so is davey allison his son let's find out what's wrong with Bobby here's Gary first of all with lava he was in radio contact with Gary Nelson the crew chief he said I am losing fuel pressure the car then died so right now they're working around the carburetor to detect the problem in car 22 for Davey we thought it was a routine pit stop out of the yellow he came in the 11 gallon dump tank was emptied into this a 22 gallon fuel cell but right now there's a conversation that continues between the crew and the drivers so perhaps it's more serious than just the mandatory pit stop and a good restart out in front but here's the battle for second and rusty Wallace's to the inside in that car number 66 the Southland Camaro and he passes Alan Kulwicki and so Rusty Wallace moves up to second place and now to Whitney oh no was running so strong there in the early going ran second for such a long time is now right there how competitive this building second position all of a sudden two six and there's no draft involved here is simply a matter of so many tough competitors being right there at the door the door was cracked it was like opening up the floodgates they come water but balloon Burnley wallets a couple weeks ago and Cayuga trickle was in a similar situation the proprietor lapin city was spun up Dick Trickle went on to finish the race and that's how trickle lost his ride here he is in the same situation again good racing in turn number four Dick Trickle goes to the inside and now in second place Wallace's in third by getting in car number 66 meanwhile the interval between Jim Sutter is a leader people we'll try to get an interval for you next time around but solder is running all by himself while the others battle for position off of turn number 4 onto the main straightaway here is Jim Sauter now crossing the start/finish line one more now let's go down to Gary Lee in the pit area waiting impatiently for the crew to work on the ignition as he calls a crew member / as we indicated earlier there was a push in this car then he said apparently a fuel problem Bob was there any indication to the problem earlier yeah started missin and not any quit obviously they're looking at the ignition right now it's going to be a very lengthy stop for Bobby Ellison at this point in the grand national NASCAR season Bobby Allison is the points leader in many he qualified in the 8th position go to the pit area for some extensive work meanwhile his son Davey Allison who was Trickle car number 99 dick hailing from Wisconsin Rapids Wisconsin he is 41 years of age running in second position and [Music] he has competition from the butch Miller car never been me too they chuckle run this year than anybody my Kenny was on the very left hand side of your screen by getting his probably I in a fastest driver week in and week out in a si racing he really likes to high banks and a week ago of Bristol bike and he does not your screen at a three-lap at Fanning [Music] the guy was killing him then is telling in town than the race car or something else underneath the hood at Lee the car slows mary'll a yellow flag to catch eventually passed my Kenny and butch Miller went on to a second win of the ASAC [Music] one of the toughest and one of the most brave race charmers you'll find anywhere more information here's Bobby Allison alarming Ellison the team hasn't never say die attitude you waited impatiently in the car but apparently it's all over yeah the ignition quit on the car and we just don't have stuff that we need to put a new ignition on you know a lot of times we can come with a backup ignition but this time we didn't and this one quit most fathers would turn around walk away but you have a son up there racing season there to watch his son now I'm gonna watch him but I'm not gonna fight my nail all right right now Bobby Allison a spectator so Bobby Allison [Music] as we pick up the action on the track butch Miller in car 52 notice missing a few laps ago by Kenny in car 18 was in the thick of this battle by Kenny has pulled in that area and the wall it looks like his day is all over a couple of favorites here in this event my guillotine and Bobby Allison have dropped out of the race mikeetty who has not won in 1983 will not win again the other driver a matter of fact you let about three times as many laps at 1983 ins that story [Music] there's the reason why Mike down to the race Mike was in seventh position of the a point standings going into this event with 734 there is Alan Kulwicki being pursued by Bob Stern down the backstretch here 40 lat we did 14 out of 200 66 of Dick Trickle running internally fourth place is butch Miller these cars have about a hundred and twenty odd and 30-mile range [Music] we all remember to stop 20 miles here at the back [Music] saundra continues to lead this event he has led all the way to this point Dick Trickle car number 99 runs in second position and we are almost a fourth in the way women two laps into this event Larry nuvaring Gary Lee back at State Fair Park for the Milwaukee 200 race munier first two positions and early on Mike here is Gary Lane a short day for my Kenny who was getting very competitive any indication as to what something broken a motor I think a broken ride just happened all the sudden it was running decent and all of a sudden it just broke obviously you were still competitive you were moving up and there was no warning to the problem no there was no warning at all and I the motor would held together we probably would have had a pretty good shot there's always that's always a big ass so you never know see how texting it could be on the car and the driver [Music] driving the seat out there oh it's bloody warm out there it's not as bad as what you think of me but it's funny warmer a yellow flag is actually worse than racing because you don't get nowhere at all another spectator Mike any car radiates out of the race and a couple of laps ago it looked like the Dick Trickle was going to challenge Jim saw her for the lead as they came down the straight that was not the case and here sexy card David Pearson out of the race it looks like as they push that hard drops out of the competition here today meanwhile for the lead as they plummeted some of the slower cars in turn number two and down the backstretch here they are moving down the backstretch gym sauna and Dick Trickle going at it for the lead and turn number three if you like racers I mean racer racers get goggle like Dick Trickle the guy that red and yellow number 99 of course the white knight is Wallace has lovely maybe the most favorite among all the pre-race favor what goes up some smoke coming from and I'd say that Rusty Wallace the men who won this race two of the last three years is in trouble so some of the married are encountering problems in the a si point seven the Dick Trickle is the leader in the turn number one have been completed and run lap down there he is in the upper right hand corner of your screen has led this race since the drop of the green flag he and his trailing mate right there didn't read one laughs this time around open season is victory 66 Southland the car driven fine trying to figure out what or not they can get it fixed to put rusty back in the race but right now if that's what good glenda claps as the others continue to run under green condition it is certain place now fifth is Bob Seneca sixth is Gary balloon when I seen it going and AIDS is number two 9 is the 11 car driven by Darrell Waltrip and his tenth place is carnival 81 Harold there and the Rusty Wallace AAS a timing and scoring tighten it back up or replacing him it wasn't oil no problem and watch for Wallace to be back out but now he's four maybe five laps down and he'll be coming from when he gets back out Darrell Waltrip Carnival started this rain in second position ran up front for a while now is running right behind him is Mike Miller as part of her 18 who's known in this race in 17th position darrell waltrip there at the middle of the screen getting ready to put a lap on Rick Carelli literally the I play Denver Colorado's a lap down as Rusty Wallace pulls out of the pits and grumbled back onto the racing surface several laps down as we continue to watch Waldrop by the way moving up on Al she'll one of the local drivers actually 20s Bobby Allison teammate number 14 now Jill is a guy who the feel that seems to speak it almost all the SE races but here at Milwaukee for the hometown crowd he really can strike them it runs very well he qualified easily with a field here this weekend the average speed of the race at this point slowed by the yellow for the toe-in on Bobby Allison 105.1 5 3 miles an hour once again let's go down to Gary lay in the pit area who has another early retiree but as a driver it must be a helpless feeling to just stand and watch the mechanics go to work in the car well it is you know whenever a screamer started the car was started skipping so I didn't know where he was just a plug baby fell out of what it was I feel try to lon longer forgot a clearer depth so but last night to change my ass trying to step on a car so I don't know where something that slipped of what it was it was given run off the bath it's a case where it's a new car for you you really don't know what to anticipate from the car No don't what Lord don't know either don't thing that you know that they done wrong and just something that maybe just happened to the car but the world had it beautiful I felt like it really had a really change today this is really a chance to cool off just a bit you're standing by helmet in hand ready to go back to racing well I don't know of anybody that would need him today course a little bit warm but 200 miles I don't think anybody that came back to our mouth we don't see you back out there thank you [Music] me five make that 56 laps completed position Alan Kulwicki Portland his mom's woman the tight position and the battle for fourth a fifth position here between Alan Kulwicki and Bobson occur ITF remember that number in color number 84 later on this race really knows how to win intermediate Lake races might call it a long race yes afield but senator has been as successful as 150 and 200 mile races maybe with the exception of Dick Trickle over the last decade he didn't qualify quite as fast as some of the really frontrunners he showed some real strength early in the race I have a feeling that Seneca was doing a little bit of meditation like arrangement senators running particularly in the last 50 laps the first 10 dozen yes a racing laughs Bobby Donner one of the early season surprises running up front and the point standings in the first three all year long all these people still in the lead lap as we look at Bob soon occur about whom we were just talking the winningest driver of all time some of the other drivers still on the lead lap without in the top 10 star ranks Harold fair Rod's competitive going out of turn number two down the backstretch chef mutters hard and there he is running very slowly down the backstretch you saw a trickle go around quickly and problems now with Jim Sauter and car number five we'll see if he can make it around to his pen car number five that prototype pal Firebird [Music] look like it this is the Landry's like lap the hand is out already he comes down go buy on the high side and solder is already without power as he looks down into turn number one singling to the crew no he's signaling to the safety crew members telling him that he's pulling it right into regulate to the garage tremendous turn of events here as Jim Sauter who led the mercy now drops out of the race and Dick Trickle Mizzou facili in second position kolecki third senator fourth that place here it below carnivores way interesting development here in the early going some of the big NASCAR drivers and some of the a si stars have fallen by the wayside well Pierson is gone Tommy Allison is gone the solder as is Mike Hetty I want to complete that lessons we look at the current leaders some of the regulars who are your thoughts about them for later on in the race Tom Jones if any second earlier this year at the Silverdome still minute can't stop her 51 of Dennis Louisville in the car number 40 which carries Senator Bob senators younger brother is piloting this week also still on the lead lap out there can I say Terkel going strained and car number 83 Mary started the race and as bad friend three laps have been completed go back and Milwaukee and the race continues to run under on the far right hand side of your screen you just caught a glimpse a blimp that is a five senator is Justin underneath Alan Kulwicki going into turn number one at Bob's on a gazillion [Music] he'll be battling butch Miller for second bob senator continues to rise toward the top vinegar going to the high groove outside of turn number four right in front of him the second-place car butch Miller they flashed down the main straightaway will see out develops here in the first the first more cars are now running very close to each other on the racetrack with the divine my point of it speaking of Jim Sutter Harriet well actually we cannot talk to Jim because we cannot talk about his demise yet he is going to rejoin the fray it was a broken ignition more active coil wire that was broken they tightened that up fired the car up and he's right now leaving the garage combat area and now running through the pillar is the Jim solder will rejoin the fray [Music] several laps back count him out of possible win here this afternoon eighteen seventies in a partner race the man who was famous not only for his ability to drive race cars the Molson because of his family he is quite a brood he's just enough standing sturdily film race driver really one of the fun to find in any race water but you are watching the first three cars Erica down to the inside there rack'em he is coming back once again that's directed on that car he once again the wall and Jim slaughter will go to work again on that car a problem of oil say when he came back God follow buddy seven combination running again there are your first three cars in turn number three the leader his sick trickle second position returnable 52 Bob sitting here they come off of turn number four slower to the inside down into turn number moving to the inside and everybody getting around as they go down the backstretch once again running it forth Wiki but the in general but like Bob cynic er might try to make a move again on but cannot and we have a yellow flag displayed over the Speedway and we'll look around to see what the problem might be we don't see anything obvious at this point it could free debris on the racetrack [Music] likely candidate for the reason for this yellow flag certainly is a nice break yet it is debris we now get the report over the radios that we have debris on the racetrack in turn number one these safety crews there you I'm getting ready to go out and retrieve the errant piece hopefully not falling off one of the race we're not falling off one of our leaders as the numbers in these six race car Falls to the pit area - higher [Music] just barely got filled yesterday as we had a tremendous lineup of cars that attempted to mollify my free flea run down the list of drivers who did not qualify Don Walter out of Franklin Wisconsin as number 58 was among the non qualifiers which mere indoor fan art go on semi AAS a regular Kenny London one of the new Ford products entered Bruce Barris of Belgium Wisconsin Tony Tan Torelli in his old Mustang was one of the people came and attempted to get into the race this weekend but lost an engine while he qualified and last but not least in the spectacular painted number 38 lime gold and candy apple red and I'll tell you it was beautiful Jeep bloom on a cincinnati ohio those are the guys who tried to get in here but just found the competition too tough this weekend at the Milwaukee senior market all the leaders are coming into the pits while we mentioned that Nitori in this race as everybody heads in for their required stop now they may make another one throughout the afternoon but this is the required stop that everybody is making or just about everybody in fact I believe every sing well all but one car and that is bloody Shrock number 35 he is the only car that did not fit that remains on the race track everybody else is in there is Bobson occur as the crew works on his charm jewel being put in on the right side now they move around to the other side of the car on the left end and replaced the rubber there there is Dick Trickle our number 99 the leader of the race he made a quick pit stop and back out there some of the other cars Gregory announced [Music] and remains in the pit area darrell waltrip at number 11 the traffic was so heavy in the pit Tomczak in car number 26 rallies and Gary Balu and Tom sack could not even have enough room to get in Morelia sitting sideways is going to be difficult for RIT to pull out without backing out he just barely has enough room to clear Gary Balu is Corelli pulls out but as Bob mentioned everybody safe for Buddy shrunken schrock was a lap down so I don't even think that buddy got credit for leaving the lab which Miller was the first of the leaders to actually come across the start/finish line we're now on lap 72 under yellow at the Milwaukee 200 for ASA's cars and we now present a trash bag these a si stock cars utilize quick change rear end similar to the sprint car so would take the back plate off career in take the old gears out put the new ones in put the light back boys put the gear grease in the entire operation takes less than five minutes stay with us for more action from State Fair Park in Milwaukee Wisconsin [Music] so the first round of pit stops have been made here 75 laps have been completed then several the cars made a couple of pit stops here the top four Dick Trickle the leader pops in occur is second Alan Kulwicki is third and Mark Martin is running in fourth place fifth is butch Miller sixth place is Harold fair seventh is the number eighteen of Mike Miller eighth is number 19 Joe Ruttman and in ninth position is car number twelve driven by Gary Balu so that's the way they're running in 75 completed we are still under caution because of debris on the racetrack up and turn number one however the pace car has turned off its yellow lights is speeding up ahead of the field and we expect to get the green as they come down this time a resumption of the Milwaukee 200 I'd say a guy who suddenly appeared there's an orange and white car just to the right of your a little bit all of the camera shot right now Mark Martin has suddenly exploded into the top four Martin had a great pit stop there he is on the screen mark is on the lead lap he's been running 10th or 11th all day the team got him in and out in fantastic fashion this is the Bob Strait team from a year ago and Mark Martin is suddenly [Music] as a matter of fact an Alan Kulwicki pulls up alongside him to challenge him for that position now Rusty Wallace number 66 as kawaii does indeed go into third place Rusty Wallace a number 66 is in that food however he has a lap down and yellow once again as a car has fun I think Payne my Arne Kristen and also involved in that melee up there at turn number two was a day me Allison it happened back in the pack at this restart date we start following our first yellow flag of the day the second one comes out it fire fashion so we did nothing it up here but only Christian and Davey Allison mouth incidentally a word about those pit stops we mentioned Dennis vocal apparently also involved in the fracas so there were at least three cars involved the word about the last pit stops they stopped at approximately lap number 70 and that's an indication that probably the cars is not you go the distance without stopping again so I think we're in for a couple of Harley's rather one more pit stop and if we have green now and say lap 180 or lap 190 that could get very interesting because stopping at lap 170 that's just about the maximum 120 130 laps left about the maximum these cars can go on this trap without stopping so we continued right under green coming in at lap number 70 is going to cause some real head scratching for some of these teams I think it's a credit to these drivers here today this has been the only incident of the race with 78 laps completed and that was a minor one the yellow is out for pit stops are being made we'll be right back on the lead lap at Milwaukee with 80 laps completed and still under caution the pace car picks up speed in turn number three we expect a resumption of this race in just a few seconds the reason for this most recent incident their yellow was because of an incident up in turn number two involving a few cars Arne Kristen Denis Vogel and Davey Allison no serious damage senator becomes our our initial leader was Jim Sauter he dropped out of the race on lap 16 Dick Trickle took over the lead on 61 and has held it until number 81 when Bob senator got off to a great start when the green came out again n is now in the lead the fourth turn and the yellow is out we have a car that is Banamine turnable more however he has continue to keep his engine running that is Bob straighter and morenae looks like he may have had some contact with the wall as a little bit of body damage is noticeable on the left side of the car but strange is still in competition out there Bob strain of finished sixth in points a year ago on a si with Watea 1983 has just been tougher than mount everest for this guy just won't seem to fall into place he had no wins last year but if we mentioned earlier he did have a pole position in six times he finished in the top five currently straight his way down an 18th place we say way down because he expected Beasley in the top 10 and 20 top five at the point standings this year mob strength arnica18 moving inside of everybody else indicating that I'm around although he does stay out there on the racetrack so fast vinegar in car number 84 really put the pedal to the metal when the green flag came out moved around Dick Trickle to go into the lead and there is Bob sent a crew now leads the rest of the field slowly down the backstretch Bob Seneca a name that has become legendary really in a essay annals a guy who ran all the outlaw circuit you might say around home around the Berlin Michigan area the Grand Rapids Michigan area running in southern Michigan and northern Ohio for quite a number of years before a si came around now we're looking not only at the Seneca but also Bob Strait who runs right there in front of him there is Joe Ruttman is Davey Allison cuts to the inside apparently headed for the pits Robert is in the Dennis Springs house car this weekend this is a race car that is having his milestone weekend to use the words of its inventor proprietor of the shop that produces the Frings race cars Dennis Springs Joe Ruttman at one time was one of the most successful drivers here in this racetrack with the the time when he was just going wild and USAC raising winning one out of every four races the inner he was a UCF champion a couple of times and here at this racetrack what are the most personal drivers in all of racing he also got under and we go down to carry lead for an observation of the pit area we are down here in Joe Rapids pit area there's a certain camaraderie in stock car racing as you look over my shoulders you can see the crew members wearing blue shirt this is actually the crew of Dean Roper the two time you sacked Stock Car champion Dean was not raising this weekend and Joe didn't have a crew they said let's get together have some fun of Milwaukee so here they are [Music] and mob straight who is the reason for this yellow period here has pulled into the mid area and support has been done on that car he is now back out there Navy Allison made another pit stop last time around field comes around turn number four still under reduced speed here the standings are as follows the leader is Bob senator second position is Dick Trickle fourth position belongs to Mark Martin place in Joe Ruttman is butch Miller is number twelve of Gary Balu those are your first seven positions now with 85 laps completed we could get a green flag next time around the safety crews working up in turn number four where Bob straight spun have now completed their work up there and have gone to their assigned positions so perhaps this time around we'll get the green flag the leaders going down the backstretch Kulwicki goes by Wallace goes by circle left but not down rubber goes by he's still the top-25 Mark Martin where's Bob senator the leader of the entire race we've still got more than halfway to go so they think of epoch from this point and the green flag comes out once again centigurp made sure that Dick Trickle did not hit the good jump as last time we went back Eurasian Seneca maintained right now as Alan Kulwicki has rerd his head again and is on the inside of Dick Trickle and turn number four battle for second position by my side it is they go into turn number one the third Joe Ruttman has passed park Barton 4/4 mark drops back to fifth and I think we're seeing a lot of examples Bob that a lot of these folks aren't necessarily giving it every little thing they got there's butch Miller he's still in at the lot Michigan driver he's won twice this year he's running in fifth position right now and there are a lot of guys up there I think [Music] more of a head game than a foot game [Music] move to the inside of Mark Martin and it is the number 52 of butch Miller going into fourth position below fifth and Mark Martin back to sixth position now mark and moved up steadily but now begins to fall back just a little bit Gary Beaulieu car number 12 running in fifth place right now [Music] Joe Ruttman at 19 why I tell you that competition is no a little bit in the corner nice Joe Ruttman these cars are reaching speeds August 14 idiotic miles an hour down the straightaways at this relatively flat one-mile oval and there's so little margin for error there must be about 15 of them that are running within about a twentieth or a fifth of a second 20 hundreds innocent about a fifth of a second [Music] 4:12 right ahead of him that place Karim Joe Ruttman now he moves alongside Redman down the backstretch Gary Balu standing on the accelerator going into the third turn picks up the position Balu moves to fifth and Joe Ruttman and car number 19 falls back to sixth position Gary Balu from Fort Lauderdale Florida [Music] Gary Balu is in is one of the most interesting cars here today really you get inside of that garment in the top [Music] currently minutely in terms of the aerodynamics inside the car you look in the inside of the number 112 car or 12 as it's racing under here this weekend for scoring purposes you almost get the feeling that you're looking inside of a can-am cars everything was sealed up on the inside to direct the air from the front of the car through the content hapless type car race in Cleveland Ohio earlier this year and the temperature is already being overcome with the heat temperature I would guess is almost as warm would imagine the humidity is a little bit higher but in this type of racing these kind of cars it's a lot cooler for the driver there is second and third that jost going on between the local driver Alan Kulwicki from nearby Wisconsin a local driver Trickle considers this his home track and by the way as we go yellow again for the fourth time today we have a car that is fun and apparently made contact with the outer retaining wall trimco considers this race his Super Bowl Dick Trickle is one like over a thousand races in his career as we look at Kurt chesh Iron Butt trip trickle says that this race is the most important when he enters every year Kurt jeffires car is up against the wall in turn number three and that will bring out now yellow of the afternoon no serious accidents to this point a couple of spins mommy Allison and debris on the racetrack wood has been a very safe race to this point once again the drivers reduced their speeds and can catch a quick breath of air and the pace car is out on the racetrack and the field behind this was Bob senator right behind the pace car on the back right in position so some great competition to this point and we have gotten a little over 100 laps ago we are on lap number 94 now so we have a hundred and six laps remaining annually this crowd here at Milwaukee is the biggest a sa only race crowd [Music] the ASAC cars here at Milwaukee they're very aerodynamically tuned and we present a track back aerodynamics air dams how do you keep a si cars from looking like the gang from Star Wars will you standardize the nose pieces these cost about forty five dollars a piece you can see the front end is in two halves each half weighs about three or four pounds and you have to buy them from an a si a proof store you can't make your own where do you find an a si approved or well right here at the racetrack thousands of very warm race fans on hand here at Milwaukee today we're almost halfway through and Bob senator is the leader and our pals of the nine to one compression engine these things are still turning out well about 500 maybe medians 600 horsepower while overseas mentioned often trade cars are on the lead as we approach the halfway point as they come down this time the green will come out and we'll click off lap number 98 Bobson occur still has the lead with Hawaii position third position and Kulwicki moves to the inside of vinegar and takes over the lead Alan Kulwicki momentarily becomes our important leader of the afternoon boy watch that guy in the second blue car there two blue ones on the screen coalition the current leader followed by senator and Gary below Gary blue may be the most aggressive driver that you could see week in and week out running in almost has really begun to here as his woman is second per second to this race so far Gary balloon making his move down the backstretch now runs second syndicate third and Dick Trickle in fourth position right there in fifth is butch Miller in car number 52 to the first five cars running very close together on the racetrack there is third fourth and fifth as they come out of turn number four onto the main straightaway honey pots the official starter for the Americans like syndicating we are halfway through Dick Trickle and butch Miller third fourth and fifth out there right now as they come down the backstretch last week at Bristol as we look at Bob Seneca running in third as we battle for fourth [Music] the battle for fourth between trickle on the inside and trying the high side as butch Miller there is the battle food our finish line with Gary below breathing down his bat tailpipe now insert number two and we have a new leader hello noses ahead of Alan Coney Gary Pulu has taken over the lead Gary started this race in 11th position and is now on the lead out of turn number four he'll be shown as the leader of Latin number 102 he is our fifth leader on the day Baloo is a man who you might suggest using the here able though is that person who when he's behind you competitive yet know it well they'll let you know that he's there there are no surprise passes from Gary Lou Gary Balu he'll come up and beat on you to use a racing term that's not a literal translation translation of the word [Music] racecar he carries below can pull a race car out of predicaments that the average driver is not capable we have a car hitting a wall weren't spending down and out of turn number four another car involved he also backs into the retaining wall one of the cars involved as Dennis Lappin number nine one of the Rookie of the Year candidate and the other car Rick Carelli car number six from Denver Colorado Pirellis car spun initially and was blocking the racetrack ahead of Dennis Blanton he backed his car into the wall however Pirelli star that almost the entrance to the pit area Rick Carelli who came here this weekend with pretty high expectations if you mentioned earlier in the show that he's been pretty tough west of the Mississippi River and he has been a top-10 contender most of the time that he has run with a sa but it was really tough sled this weekend for this western mountainous driver Rick Karelian never was really in it this remember the name Rick Carelli because he's gonna be around for a while he's a big strong confident letting type guy and you just got the feeling that here is one of the stars of the future it well that's assassin situation Larry we have seen six leaders to this point I mean thank you pardon five leaders to this point Tim Sauter who is out of the race but Dick Trickle Watson occur Alan Kulwicki and Gary Balu are still in and still running right up front at each of them as displayed their ability to take the lead whatever they want to now they really have course the secret here is not only to be able to flex muscles center of portions of the race but also to finish and in that regard you've got to say that Seneca coal wiki Alan Kulwicki finished more laps than any other a si driver a year ago in a leg up senator Colby he we're still under yellow and Rick Carelli from Denver Colorado has brought his car into the pit we'll see if he can get going again well answer that question in just a moment [Music] 106 laps completed here at Milwaukee and the pace car has pulled ahead of the field and is about to go into the pit area and the green about to come back down Gary Balu is the leader Bob Seneca running Dick Trickle and this is butch Miller running in six is Mike Miller a part of a team is car 11 darrell waltrip 8 is mark mark 9th place Bobby daughter and 11th car number 24 Harry senator seventeen Arnie christen number seven John Gregory airily in the pit area was this note Gary Gary Balu is driving a bot chassis the chassis apparently is making the difference for Balu now prior to his pit stop he said the car was not handling he asked for more to digress the reason why he is out front 25 laps of the end what we're going to stop to top off the mule arrey below is the leader running a few car lengths ahead of Bobson occur 109 laps completed as they come down this time it'll be last number 110 and we have 90 to go 1:10 I would be surprised if any repeating again That's not me seventy miles and situation and they si racing about the maximum you can go the maximum is 130 miles on a load of fuel 22 gallon fuel cells in these race cars so I really think that to be competitive all race long everybody [Music] running in this position is carnival Mike Miller from Canton Georgia started in 17th position and has moved up to him passing Dick Trickle a lap ago trickle now back in sixth mister nine to one Mike Miller as a matter of fact Mike Miller and Dick Trickle the two guys on the screen right now are the two drivers who really developed this 91 version engine if the engine it has muddy water life the old 13:01 are thousand miles before you had to tear it down and repair it for you just nine to one compression Rachel actually nineteen point four nine to one he can get up to twenty five hundred miles out of them it's a big money saver and I think one of the really important stories of short-track late-model racing for 1983 we have another change of butch Miller in carnival 52 moves into third place Kulwicki back to fourth there fourth-place cars from Watson Michigan a 30 year old driver Alan Kulwicki which miller car 52 [Music] service having something beginning to develop my the bodywork just behind the right front we and loose from the chassis now that he should not be a serious problem unless it happens Waltrip will be keeping lie on that begins to heat up there is new bird and Connor Brady for it exciting careful though the leader in car number 112 and look at Seneca swishing a little bit as he comes on in turn number four senator was the laid-back looking for every opportunity and find it and backs off the accelerator just a little and lets gary below inch ahead and see that they trying to take over the one which preceded the well Ashley this car came here as number 112 but for scoring purposes they covered up one of the one to thing in this grade 12 but the pain is beginning to flow up secular racecar and you can clearly see this on the left side of the car but it isn't affecting the handling think of this car as continues to set the pace not think of some of his exploits at the one-mile in Syracuse New York number three years ago and Gary blue showed up with a Lincoln Continental modified absolutely decimated the field at Senate it's really workable over I think he's got on this time will they have a slow car in front of a shire is the reason that mobs in occur goes on into the lead once again since they tried to pass that slower car and turn one box vinegar has the line he now Gary Balu bill those cars continue to run very close to each other on the racetrack which feller meanwhile continues to run in third place he's thinking of the red cars Sir Charles and picture Alex go what he is for that he is a few car lengths at this point at the Milwaukee 200 [Music] moniker has won twice tonight go to the high side of a Cincinnati drivers like ratstar Pat Patrick they sweep around Patrick through the corners on this racetrack have a slower traffic in front of them so right directly in the for this weekend is Willy cake one weiss this year having one of the Queen City Speedway near Cincinnati Ohio and at home Marn michigan senator won that race the NASCAR Grand National race International Speedway well the race fans who have gathered here and are sitting out of this hot sunshine are the great racing all day and at this point are running white together by Bob sent occur Guerry below and then Miller car 52 and there is Mike Miller and Connor breeze yes recently moved run out of a shop down there he's drivers who grew up most of their racing career in are going at it now as they trade me right now Mike Miller has pissed around that slow car he took to the high side and took the low-side around now they're on the background the Waskom Wisconsin and also developing now for second answer Bobson eager goes into turn number one but Gary Moore Miller are beginning now much Miller who has won at the Silverdome and there has been competitive every race this year and they si and the white bedspread they do going to work on fellow home state our fault which color is a guy who really kind of prefer very much at home and I have my awesome don't combine speedway with one of this high this came out a very skilled racing driver he seemed to be Aronica pity very much like to be what's wrong going into this race in fourth place in the final point standings when given the courtesy flag by Johnny pots these wishes and the faster cars around Milwaukee 200 and stayed in their Park in a moment right now whatever 24 laps simply to welcome you back to the Milwaukee zoo mom senator is late Rick Carelli just a few minutes ago here is Darrell Waltrip who is unofficially seventh position Waltrip in seventh right now when this race the two time champion in that division won the very first ever not one an a sa race five he came here in this brings happiness weekend very serious place the pace for about the last 60 or 70 laughs let's go down to Gary Lee with an observation Bob we had intimated earlier there might be a sassy the crew chief now indeed the tires the heat of this race the tires [Music] on the right side these cars are actually made up of three different sides are aluminum my side of that car has apparently worked at home flapping in the breeze as their waltrip themselves right away [Music] the cars listen to the right now stagger or larger tires on the outside will compensate for some of that listening to the right but because this track is so flat and so much of the weight is transferred to the right-hand side you can actually see these race cars turns the leader continues Bobson occur car number me behind him is Gary balloon and right behind Gary balloon is the number who's the interval between bombs n occur down the backstretch [Music] at the straight away lead now for Bob senator who is beginning to pull away from the rest of the meal we have 70 thirty have been completed we'll try to get an Interphone the first and second place car vodka there is Gary Balu and the interval is 1.7 the 1983 season in AAA you drive around the Chicago area whose father did a lot of racing at the old soldiers field there he is Bobby Donner you don't really want to call him the tin soldier going back to the soldiers field route maybe the fiberglass for Bobby Donner he's been like a soldier and they're raising this year every race he's right second in terms of laps completed he has completed 91% here at a essay competition ten finishes of the ten races held so far young Bobby daughter has finished in the top ten nine times three in the point standings supposed to the season exactly where he is right now number three behind alright let's recap what we have done are in this race with 132 last few weeks the leader Bob Snedeker in car number 84 we have had five leaders let the early mages that cars have also led Dick Trickle Alan Kulwicki and Gary Beaulieu we have had yellow or caution periods nothing for anything serious a couple of spins and a couple of minor contacts with the wall but nothing very serious we have 11 cars on the lead line and the girls leader Carrie balloon second which Miller third Alan Kulwicki Warren fix this Dick Trickle seventh is Darrell Waltrip eighth is Mark Martin ninth position is Bobby daughter 10th place number 19 - Rutland and the 11 is the number 24 driven by Jody Ridley and if you're Bob Seneca man don't panic yeah I saw the black flag momentarily also I believe it might have been yo t redly who has liked me it did appear to be a blackwell the lower side of turnover for affiliates Corelli it is Rick Carelli earlier in the race but got back out there now a big puff of smoke coming from the rear of that car and the yellow flag is being displayed so our seventh caution period of the day run out by an obvious problem with Rick Carelli scar Bob Seneca is going to set the tenor for this yellow flag don't be surprised that the leaders pit right now senator smart senator as well as Malou got to be thinking it's now a good time to pit we Kentuckian now we get the fuel that lumen eights any question or will it be another yellow flag the field for the most part with more or less follow suit with what the leaders do because everybody feels like they're in the same keel right now the same footing it's touching go whether or not they can go the distance but if the leaders are going to stay out there so by golly are they so let's see what happens they call him the my Plains Drifter he is Rick Carelli from Denver Colorado and he is taking off his crash helmet and unbuckling says that car's engine apparently has let go Corelli will be climbing out of the car momentarily and the field is bunched up very closely behind the pace car over in turn number three there is Corelli climbing out of the car right now and we're going to find out whether or not the leaders choose to pit in just a couple of seconds and it sure looks like it it says there ease right down on the paint most of them have dropped to the extreme inside of the racetrack and they had the safety trucks there ahead of them we'll see what happens here mom senator is coming into the pits so is Gary Balu so is butch Miller and so is most of the rest of the field there is one car staying out there and that is Darrell Waltrip Waltrip elects not to make a pit stop at this point so he's going to go into the lane momentarily the others are headed for pit road well this will do it unless there's another yellow flag don't expect the leaders to come in again this takes all the bets off about the fuel everybody will have enough most of the competitors are changing right side or outside rubber Balu is changing coal Vicki is changing Senators car was up on jacks they have changed Butch Miller's changed right side Mike Miller Jody Ridley who had just gone a lap down to the front running drivers is also changing right-side rubber mark Martin's cars left up on jacks the left side being changed first so apparently Mark Martin looking to change now he changes on his left side so that's a bit of Mark Martin oh it's not really challenge for the lead although he's been with the frontrunners all day changes inside rubber Bob sitting here is out of the pits the another car besides Darrell Waltrip that was on the lead lap that did not come in Joe Ruttman so those two will be shown in first in second position they have not made their pit stop and we they're going to there the bill is in turn number four [Music] see there is children than the other cars and it's not on the lead lap that does not make a pit stop in both of those drivers continuing to stay on the racetrack so no pit stop there hoping there will be perhaps another yellow later on they can come in and get service pigging Bob Darrell Waltrip and Joe Ruttman is not used this opportunity to fit now do they know something that the rest of the field is not does not know these building waltrip and holding back while he roar out of the starting blocks and knock everybody into the ground at this point well let's find out as we have 65 odd ago now and the two drivers who we spoke up the two that did not make pit stops Darrell Waltrip and sail on the backstretch did come in are catching up quickly however and will continue to watch their progression through some slower traffic Helene and Waltrip has not left today you're up and down the main straightaway and though butch Miller Mike Miller they all ended up in the back of the pack after the series of pit stop and my goodness are they scrambling and heaven on Ballu was particularly hung up behind slower traffic the early stages of this green flag let's go to the pit area once again will this report from Carrie Lee Bob for Darrell Waltrip and crew it's a roll of the dice kind of the strategy being played right now this point they were not ready now we have also checked in with the crew of Bob gennaker Bob is very happy with the Bluebird they changed all four tires however they did not change the stagger so bob is ready with new rubber to go the distance all right and here Slimers that did make a pit stop moving up through traffic Mark Martin Mike Miller as we mentioned a couple of minutes ago is also in that group and I tell you they have lost about a quarter of a lap think that maybe a fifth of a lap a straightaway distance as we look at fourth and fifth running trickle and my villain about a whole straightaway two walls have been Ruttman who are upfront knows circle just now comes out of turn number four Alan Kulwicki is also an energy [Music] Dick Trickle place Mike Miller Dick Trickle led laps 61 through 80 but right now because of the men he made a few minutes ago is trying to and third is fob Seneca running first and second 145 fifth running white knight intrical six running mr. nine to one Mike Miller originally auto Wisconsin now on the high side laughs of this green flag second behind one and then he pulled back just holding back a little bit or maybe now Robin is playing the game but I'll tell you the guy who's posing in watch you just caught a quick clip zoom on the screen here comes Seneca again moving up quickly has have gotten around the smarmy gold leaders third place pop Seneca there's about an equal distance between the first positions about six or eight car lengths separate each of those as they are now in turn amore is Darrell Waltrip on Joe Ruttman across the start-finish line setting up so run as we watch darrell waltrip continuing to maintain the lead Joe Ruttman down the backstretch and he is passing with relative senator scoots in the second position once again now sets his sights on later when tourism airily right but at this point we seem like not Santa Cruz in the catbird the gentleman around who indicates that Joe has enough fuel to go to distance right now the car is handling the tires are good we don't know how long those fires will last a joke they make a pit-stop not the fuel the into the backstretch she goes to the inside and passes Darrell Waltrip senator resumed the lead once again so a nice this power by Bobson occur as he made of his own through the meal that has assumed the lead once again and the important thing is that senator no dilly-dallying around he caught up Seneca was there he didn't have a door he just burst like Dylan knockout punch moved right past Grubman and then with one more right past Walsh employee looks tough right now you're in sixth position in the a si points then the race that Queen City Speedway in miles earlier this year he also picked up a victory at the Berlin speed weighing in part Michigan so too triple maybe one of the truly strong candidates for victory problem in what appears to be the right dick trickle is slowed dramatically and going very slowly on the racetrack it looks like he is coming in for laterz for pit road we'll see what the crew does to this car but you can see that there's a problem in the revolution a shot or something one of the crew members the sign that it may be all over for Dick Trickle problem there in the rear end Dick Trickle a possible victory here today well for Dick Trickle it has been I guess what you might call a traumatic way lay on the phone all of this week and I never do differences that actually we saw reach Junior so we have no matter this Rusty Wallace team cars about a hundred and fifty one left the broken shock that has eliminated Dick Trickle but the racing resumed on the track in second position [Music] continues to be Joe Ruttman in fourth place now and then fifth place departure watching down watch Miller and confidences - the Miller boys going at it out there on the racetrack and you couldn't have a more appropriate in Milwaukee Miller and Miller as they follow Joe Ruttman who doesn't really with the blood running pace the exhaust coming out of Joe Ruttman car that time as he backed off going into turn number one now Mike Miller of Joe Ruttman coming off the tournament looking to go into third position they're side by side and it turns of the three Joe Rock better on the inside Mike better moves around and much better both of them are able to pass Joe Ruttman let's go Whitney or at least a wiki is trying to as they go into turn number one and again he does watch aya you gotta be careful on this racetrack today one mistake it's like being caught outside the draft in Talladega or Daytona you go from six seven laps about to be completed on Darrell Waltrip will try to get them around but it is at least a chemistry Dawei on this white mile track Seneca appears to be on his way to victory as we have remaining there is the second place Darrell Waltrip in Carnival lemon the challenges are dealt with here in the next few laps as butch Miller and and Alan Kulwicki all are looking in terms of growth over the past decade perhaps this racing organization buddy Ellison we have a report filed in the pits and eerily in the Dick Trickle this guy in victory lane dick it won't happen again today what happened I guess it broke the shot [Music] in there right now obviously your [Music] I will I was like there's you know like of Alderman because they want to go race me again and as you heard the car was competitive but he broke that left rear shock they have made the change right now about them what that left won this race last year from with about to go back and join the battle we were talking watch Miller is in third Alan Kulwicki is in four thing that Jill wiki and butchered forth in fact of them waltrip was passed by three cars and that last lap and Dick Trickle goes back now on the racetrack and they were all scrambling among one another there is me really been trading position has been like George Steinbrenner's office the last two or three last brain training there's water all the way back until that line remember he was second I'll tell you these drivers have been very all afternoon and position now Alan Kulwicki looked like he was going to make a move on Mike Miller for second place [Music] to the third turn Bobson occur complete slap 162 between senator the leader and the number 18 of Mike Miller running in second place and there is second we go down the backstretch and then interval between first and second either grow and her stabilizes depending will of Bobson occur in a particular lab he is in control of this event make no mistake about it now a little wiki one Mike Miller flicking to the outside down the straightaway into turn number one battle for second place Mike Miller with a slightly faster line in those turns maintains the position Kulwicki however at number 90 like very much to go into second as he will not let Mike Miller get ahead talks him once again as they go into turn number three good racing for second place here between Miller and what Kulwicki will try to build it murder is a number water number three underneath Mike Miller Midway to the turn there he's trying to move right there but no close the gate meanwhile welcome when he assigned it is butch Miller a number 52 was sitting back there in fourth position watching the activities hoping for an opportunity to passing both of them 2nd 3rd and 4th lookout post they are on the racetrack Alan Kulwicki see zeph just power than Mike Miller but Mike is really pretty Olivia line yes not put enough room between my floors while all vinegar continues to stretch out the advantage Seneca returned with 160 my they're parked in Milwaukee with second third and fourth wage drivers are passing them cards are the inside of the racetrack here's to be faster than Mike it can go after senator he can see senator riding off into the sunset and with just 35 miles to go it's doubtful that even if quickie is faster then senator and we have a new development up their road there Darrell Waltrip is in the pits now is this a routine stop or isn't it no it is not the food is going up on the car [Music] darrell waltrip failed to make a pit stop last time we had a yellow when we wondered whether or not now but there is other problems that are plaguing darrell waltrip [Music] this battle for second third and fourth position by the way there are nine cars on the lead lap at this point nine on the lead lap with Bob senators Lee Miller Kulwicki is Miller second third and fourth here in turn number four type of action is just we've commented a few minutes ago that it's been one of the fastest growing organization laughter - UK International Speedway July as we watched arrow back out into the race on the 6th of August Lillian and for one of the annual rate Lonesome Pine International Raceway the Southland I'll be in Michigan Raceway on the 20 Minnesota State Fair Speedway in September three to five they'll be in I'm a two-mile Speedway in Michigan speed away the singing of every year one of the big races ever ever hear of the a sa calendar the Windjammer Winchester Indiana the first weekend in October senator and number 84 continued Rich's lead the advantage over Mike mother and second fallacious almost four seconds right now they're parked at Milwaukee Wisconsin where we have 30 laps to go in this Milwaukee 200 is the leader while you were away in car number 11 who started this race in second position dropped out of competition the car went now and again about a four-second advantage now beginning to heat up as we continue down the backstretch there is the battle for second and Alan Kulwicki did think of the position back in turn number one cold wiki is now second Mike number third and foot feller his horn well Colicchio right away takes off and tries to leave my grill Ernest dust is we now get a report a mouth spring six or seven cylinders you will not be a threat to victory anymore here today Larry I would say that pops it occur is in a position to easily win this he has car problem or something else Waltrip has taken off the crash bellman now he's beginning to grow now darrell waltrip retires from competition with just about 25 left to go and Gary Lee is also right there with their own problem with the job because the stagger in the hot tires but then we piece of racing savvy out there when you didn't make that stop we said ah Darrell's playing a mind game with the rest of us that was well weird rented really good and I had a pretty good set of tires own I was in the front I better stay off it sorry the engine oh my leg a broken valve spring or something like that and she just started missing real fast tell you what is it tougher now than what it was about 1975-76 right no no this is hard racing hard racing darrell waltrip car 11 out now a spectator and of course we'll see more of Darrell throughout the year on the NASCAR circuit as we have a spin at turn number two and the yellow comes out I cannot see who it is Jody Ridley was among them their new cars buddy schrock number 35 he is has come to rest for the inside guardrail in turn number 2 so buddy schrock car number 35 brings out our eighth caution of the afternoon in the White Castle racecar a man who is a former AAS a lake bottle sportsman national champion that seven just about the last remnant of that division he moved up to the late model ranks and continues to run in this silver creek to mental answer series silver creek to battle berries for this time in 1983 is six us they're very happy there and Bobby bats and their master racetrack told us this weekend that they're actually considering more involvement in terms of assisting sanctioning bodies that they've actually seen an increase in their sales of the product as a result of their involvement at a sa stock car racing silver creek tobacco racing series that enjoyed great success literally on the racetrack but also at the cash register well this brings out a very interesting situation Joe Ruttman is coming to the pits Joe was running in the eighth position Gary Lee is right there in the Joe Ruttman pit well the crew goes to work on the right side they'll change both front and rear tires they're topping on the fuel Nell for Joe Ruttman again this is the crew that normally handles the chores I'm Dean row for the two time you sacked Stock Car champion but Dean is now raising this weekend and shown you to the pit crew so here they are now apparently they're going to try to change the Left Front three now four tires so all four tires being changed on car 19 on top of the fuel but this will definitely take Joe Ruttman out of the competition Joe Ruttman was running in seventh position for this yellow team out and she will probably not lose a lap the field is slowed over in turn number three and the crew is just about completed so we won't lose a lap but will drop back here are the senators from Joaquin Miller and Miller of this interesting situation is Joe Ruttman number 19 we saw in the pits a few minutes ago has joined the crowd again now an interesting situation vinegar has built up all that lead while the they were running right together the question is can Bob senator display his awesome power that is move out Mike Miller butch Miller garelu and the others challenge him it looks like it's going to be a fight now as Alan Kulwicki moves along Bobson occurred down the backstretch into turn number three is side-by-side race and Alan Kulwicki the five goes into the lead once again so kawaiii The Situation's are sending her a lot of to I would think that with this limited number of laps that we have available that being away Joe Robert has made contact in turn number one Kerry senator spinning way of a caution flag senator right in the middle of turn number one Joe Ruttman was in the process of trying to race horse through the field remember that Dennis greens and was in heavy traffic trying to bulldoze his way to the front and a couple of the other competitors did not have a real good fix on them in their rearview mirror and there was contact among the binder ended up spinning out it's bad but managed to get the car going against we catches up to the tail of the field and we take a look at the their tail into this incident up there in turn number one the yellow car is Joe Ruttman getting through there's the number 92 of Willie gaytan's and there and Seneca just barely being miss might look like it might have been no there's the former pro football player Tom Aaron Jonas about to say look like Harrington but it was another white car peanut similar to Harrington's perhaps it was buddy shock there who motors right now in front of Terry senator still nine cars on the lead lap and as we look out to the racetrack Alan Kulwicki it's right behind the pace car Bob Seneca a rather Terry cynic are there in car number 40 has caught up with the rest of the field and falls in at the tail Alan Kulwicki is first Bob senator sayin and Mike Miller is third we should have a resumption of racing in just a lapper tune started a little incident there and turn number one a couple of laps ago the resulted in Terry scimitar spinning out in turn number one the pace car [Music] comes back out there Miller the button Milwaukee 200 is back underway with Oh Mickey and Bob said occur keep your eyes on Ruffin and your thoughts on Drummond remember Dennis brings in to completely change that car over on the last caution and see what happens we drove up and gets up the front-runner but he has passed about 12 cars in the last seven or eight laps although he has already caught the frontrunners he was all the way at the very tail of his line about 20 years ago when Neil Yarborough was not competitive all race long they made changes under the last caution flag and he read like Jack the bear the word isn't Gary Balu therein has very little weight it's not necessarily a safe situation out there but Gary Beaulieu is continuing Alan Kulwicki second mic Miller is fourth and then fifth place is Gary Balu in car reportedly without breaks right behind Garry Balu is Joe Ruttman we have a yellow flag a car up against the wall between who entered the race here this week in which parlor for to notice the number of the Leonard number two very reminiscent on the way mark Martin's cars have the number 2 in the same light blue color animal that's not by coincidence they've told me this weekend in the pits that he's kind of hoping that maybe this number will bring in the same kind of success that has come to Mark Martin over the past five years running in late-model me even on perhaps of grand national stock car racing David Green car number 21 he hails from Owensboro Kentucky started this race in 28th position and he has brought a lower 10th caution period of the afternoon ESPN auto racing Network will resume coverage of the Milwaukee 200 he is your leader with 186 laps completed you can see like right up an almost hitting Alan Kulwicki get going the green flag is out once again as a Dean to go - icky the leader is team and the point standings with a sa this year with 536 he is wonderful more than $17,000 have won the poll for two races and it's prediction time Larry Kankakee win this thing or will pop city girl or any of the others back in the hallway [Music] Seneca was the man but based only on what I've seen the light moving into position going around would Schiller Joe Ruttman runs up yellow flag again we have an intimate incident in turn number one we believe about to say that Rutland was 20 mine [Applause] yellow flag are really hurting Alan Kulwicki cause he has the race in his hands he seemed to be at the controls of this event he had his rhythm down and most importantly he was beating into the ground the man who looked like was the hot shoe for today pops n occur well these yellow flags as they keep coming out really work to the disadvantage of Alan Kulwicki get down to Gary Lee in the Gary Balu pit Benkei is the crew chief and for a while your Chi looks like the cart of beef and I understand you have some break clothes yeah we did have a little problem there with the brakes just a few minutes ago but he says now they're all right I don't know what the problem really was but so aside from that the chassis is working the tires are working the chest he's working real well he said that we'd had a chance we could have got some stickers but you know we wasn't geared up so we have to go with what we got keep an eye on Gary Balu in the blue number twelve all right let's run down the top ten for you there are eight cars on the lead lap Alan Kulwicki the leader Bob sitting or secondary blue is third fourth is Mike Miller fifth is butch Miller Joe Ruttman a place laughs a lap down in ninth is the number eighty I guess of mom straight then car number 24 driven by Jody Ridley in 11th position is the number forty driven by Terry senator and twelve this Tom Jones in numbers their own well it remains to be seen who will win this race we've got a little more than seven laps to go here are some who will not win Bobby Allison Mike Eddie David Pearson Dennis Martin Brad Campbell Jim Salter all of those cars dropped out of the race others going by the wayside ouch [Music] Rick Carelli and Jim Sauter so those are drivers you predicted just before we have the yellow that Alan Kulwicki win this race I'll go with mob senator I think we're gonna see him make his move about two or three laps from now nobody's more like anything Ruttman as precious rubber all the way around theoretically is set up the best of anybody's for the finish here going to work on Gary biloba get by below that he goes up to mob senator Gary Lee is ready was reported obviously that last pit stop we thought would take him out of contention but with the for price tires and topped up field she's working just right for Joe Ruttman and right now everything is going his way the question is and Joe Ruttman is gold forties on the inside they went into the first turn now turn number three this is Joe Ruttman to the inside pulling away meanwhile two lucky and senator pick up that third spot in the gets off of the racetrack now Mike Miller internal burning team tries the mass carry Baloo cannot do it with a very very strange bomb they're going into turn one actually gotten the car home third place well I'm not only pay but he can drive dirty awful we just proved that let me tell ya he is at least like behind as Bob said occur there are about three carmine Wiki and Seneca and Seneca is unable to move in on Palicki we've got less than three go down the backstretch we continue to watch this battle for third place right now Joe Ruttman holding on to third position in turn number four wake of waiting lab number 198 with laughs to go to to go in the first position occur in 84 now now some of the slower cars move to the inside the ring drivers make the easy move to the outside of the racetrack here they are in turn number four Jerris thinking of ever the white flag is out one more circuit of this one and Alan Kulwicki hold on Bobson Icarus right there when he leading Bobson occur at the death of actress now into turn number two vinegar is gotta pass he's gonna have to do it right now he moves mostly to the back of Alan Kulwicki for the chicken wife pal enjoy he wins by just about a car length right here in the Wisconsin area he has been searching for sponsorship all year long there is third and fourth there's the Alan Kulwicki [Music] a cinematographer to come to this race this weekend to shoot some videotape more it is healthy in his search for sponsorship and not only well here in front of a hometown fans but he has won maybe the biggest race of his career just a gigantic victory a significant one one of the most important every year at Alan Kulwicki be hoping for a hometown very enthusiastic and supportive cloud has won the Milwaukee 200 well he earned every penny that he'll collect here today as he battled with Bob cynic er toward the end of the race and also battled with some of the other drivers in the middle stages of the race and finally came out on top so Alan Kulwicki taking an assurance lap now we'll move into Victory Lane and we'll celebrate his win here today at Milwaukee and we'll be back to talk with him in just a moment driver from Milwaukee Wisconsin started third wins the Milwaukee 200 Alan Kulwicki and Gary's with him in victory lane Alan congratulations there's no doubt what you're drinking in victory lane I tell you what after 200 laps it came down to a drag race from the fourth turn to the start/finish line it certainly was close and for a while in the race it looked like Bob Senate grad the fastest car my car was pushing all day and we kept changing the tires on it and I'd like to thank the tranzact Racing team they get a great job got me a good set of tires at the end the car still pushed a little bit but it was getting better all day and it just feels so good to win one here I've had a lot of a lot of problems and breakdowns here and this this really all makes up for it I I just had a feeling yesterday after qualifying that this time might be Miller time for me and I just couldn't be happier we had a few altercations on the racetrack were you at any time close to those no I pretty well managed to stay clear of them and my crew was spotting me telling me when the yellows were out and they probably helped save me a couple times and all I know it was a pretty clean race other than having a hold off Bob senator at the end there the weather had to be a factor some drivers were complaining that they could not keep stagger under the car because the tires were growing because they were getting so hot you indicated you had a push earlier what was the weather like for you well it was hot all day in our car did push a little bit all day I don't know maybe everybody has the same problem but a car store could have been a little bit looser out there but I'm just was good enough to win we're talking with your crew chief I said it have a big grin on his face he said wait for about 10 laps and watch the grin and look at that smile right there the victory is Alan with this this sure makes up for a lot of things pull out I'll tell you this is the biggest victory of my life I'd like to thank the SA Silver Creek series and Miller Brewing Company for sponsoring this race and everybody that came out here today I'm sure they saw a great race and crying back and see some more aasa races and we'll see you over at the Miller tent later we'll do it Thank You Alan congratulations our ESPN congratulate s' the winner of the Milwaukee 200 Alan Kulwicki and we'll be back with some closing comments and a recap of this race after these men so the fans begin to file out of State Fair Park in Milwaukee after an exciting race it was won by Alan Kulwicki and I think the last quarter of a lap or so are very interesting here a very competitive race that wasn't easy to win this one you had to be fast all day long and on that last quarter lap colicchio after a long hot day he had to be tired he was just about perfect take a look at this this is the last two corners Sun occurred roars up behind quickie at this points in occurs got all the momentum and it's like Co wiki as Li D is reading Bob senators mind Seneca darts low he looks slow quick ease there now he says I'll go high co a key is their watch they come out of turn number four Sun occurs look and work and he go on this racetrack and on quick he is right in the way just like Richmond pretty John a couple of years ago to India now but you gotta be almost a mind reader to be a successful race driver uncle wiki knew he had the victory just a few feet before he crossed the start/finish line with a salute to the fans well we will leave you with the race some show you that there were six leaders 12 lead changes 11 yellow flags 59 laps were included under we 90 point one one five miles an hour so as we look at the top finishers we say so long from State Fair Park for Gary Lee and Larry Newberg this is Bob Jenkins saying so long everyone join us again for more ESPN auto racing 83 [Music] you
