[Music] ah hey guys charlie porter back with yet another video this one's an exciting one we're going to be comparing a 20 000 trumpet a 2 000 trumpet and a 200 trumpet and uh let's see what the differences are in the sound and how they play also i'm going to be using some different mouthpieces on each one of the horns too to further explore the possibilities of say using a a no-name mouthpiece or a standard kind of bach mouthpiece or a monette mouthpiece so stick around stay tuned and let's see what we get into so to be fair these trumpets are really in different classes of their own this horn right here is the rajna by david monette it's my personal horn i love this trumpet for many years i played on a bach trumpet this is currently my go-to horn for just about everything i do that being said i'm not a lead player i don't do a lot of commercial work the horn uh this one in particular gets a nice pretty fat dark sound um he does make some horns that are more geared towards playing lead and doing high register stuff or getting a more of a sizzling kind of commercial sound but this is not that but i will say that it's also not the most dark horn that they make and it's pretty versatile and i find that i can play in lots of situations with this horn so i'm going to be demonstrating some stuff on this guy right here and that's definitely in the 20 000 range and up this horn right here uh my friend aaron peterson was nice enough to let me borrow this horn thank you aaron this is a bach 37 and 37 is the bell size it's one of the most common uh horns that you're going to see out there in the professional world uh there's of course also the 43 size 72 size and of course the more rare 65 size which i've never had actually had the pleasure of playing before but um i know wynton recorded uh some of his early recordings on that 65 i think it was a vinda bona boar sounded beautiful but anyway uh this is the block that i have and uh this is the one i'll be playing on for you guys in silver plate these go for about well nowadays uh i'd say uh what twenty six hundred dollars or more depending on you know how new the horn is you can still get one of these older horns for about a thousand to two thousand dollars used uh on ebay and maybe if you're lucky even somewhere around the 800 range this horn right here is a jean baptiste and this is uh this is really it's it's probably most likely i'm not sure the country of origin but i i would guess uh china although there are a lot of beginning uh intermediate horns also made uh in taiwan um and of course there's some indian trumpets as well uh taiwanese trumpets are definitely getting a lot better the chinese horns so so it really depends you know i think they're getting better some chinese manufacturers are really stepping up their game uh and and sounding quite good uh this one well we're gonna see how it sounds uh amongst these other horns this one brand new is about in the price range of say 329 dollars although i've also seen these horns sell for a little bit less than that and of course you can buy one used for about 200 bucks or less and some other great horns that you can buy for about that same price though if you look online you can look on ebay i'm always recommending to beginners that they check out these old ambassadors especially if you can find one of the ones with the circular finger ring that's one of the ones from the la vintage and those are spectacular horns and you can find them sometimes as cheap as 150 or 200 unfortunately i don't want i don't have one of those here to use in the test today so it's just going to be between uh these three horns for now so anyway let's get to it and check out the sound differences between these horns also just so you are aware i'm going to be recording on a bunch of different microphones that i have set up including a cascade ribbon mic a uh what is it a bayer dynamic um ribbon mic as well and this guy right here that i'm speaking into this neumann tlm-103 uh as well as of course my h6 which has got the stereo uh configuration microphones on it and i think i've got a pencil mic over in the corner as well for room sound so i'll definitely have a video on those microphones exclusively uh doing a b and a c comparison between them uh on my monette just to give you guys a difference how the sound is between those microphones so anyway here we go hope you guys enjoy the comparisons and please leave some comments below and let me know what you think [Music] bye [Music] huh [Music] [Music] ah
