$250 Saxophone vs $3,100 Saxophone

hey it is 1 30 a.m i really should be in bed right now but screw that so a company i've never heard before called donner sent me an email saying hey will you try out our saxophones for youtube i was like um yeah sure and now it's a beginner horn it's only about two hundred fifty dollars the name of the saxophone brand is called east star i wasn't sure if it was easter or e star so i looked it up it's e-star and to be honest i haven't really played another alto other than my own in years so i have absolutely no idea how this is going to go i've never been the type to just kind of explore a bunch of gear i try to be as conservative as i can with money but if a company is just going to send me a saxophone yeah i'm going to try it out why not alright so i'm gonna go get it all right it's time let me go get a knife i'm joking i'm joking calm down oh yes sir yes sir look at there all right all right ah check it out this is done all right the saxophone's close yet so far i'm joking calm down [Music] oh look it came with it came with a saxophone stand look at there yes sir cool i already have two of these but it never hurts to have another one i'll add this in my collection immediately all right let's keep going ah okay pretty good and that's it go ahead and yes sir oh wow like the case man this smells incredible that smell oh my god that's really nostalgic i totally forgot this is what a new saxophone smells like oh my god my 10th grade and 6th grade memories are all rushing back to me i dig the case though it looks like not the most expensive case in the world but 250 that'll do it's time to open this very awesome okay it comes with straps ah ah whoa this feels interesting look at there i really like the pearls the pearls look really nice oh this is cool they have things pressing down on the keys i need to move oh that's really cool this keeps them sealed these are like really simple key clamps they're just little pieces of cork see i'm just going to remove that peep now it's open all right i got them all off it feels very promising i actually really like the key action holy crap as soon as i press it go straight down wow i really like that it's so squeaky listen pretty cool man ah it is oh that's cool nice fred i'm very very curious how this is this is only 250. what is the stock mouthpiece it comes with let's check it it doesn't say anywhere there's already read attached to it that's a little sketchy i'm gonna play the reed in a second i just want to see how it is probably shouldn't trust it to screw it ah here's a good old neck strap oh that's interesting look at that i like it got some cleaning cloths more cleaning claw oh oh we have gloves yeah instant buy this sold me yeah awesome i feel like mario all right let's see what this is they sent me reeds i was just expecting a saxophone i wasn't expecting a whole new life let's see what this is what what is that i have no idea what this is oh oh a synthetic reed when the whoo they sent me a synthetic reed i'm definitely gonna try that all right do i just take this out i don't think i was supposed to take that out i'm sorry e-star it's too late must commit oh okay you easter more cloths i see something else here oh this is a swab wow that's a fat swab and a few more things we have reeds with no name on it whatsoever that's pretty scary and i mean a lot i don't it's not about that's very unsettling but i'm sure that's why the saxophone was able to be as cheap as it is while including all this stuff this is really cool this is perfect for a beginner they would just need to buy the saxophone and literally nothing else this comes with everything and the beginner decides oh man i really dig this i want to upgrade then this is the perfect starting point to let you know if you want to upgrade or not all right here's the glorious neck cool okay so it's finally time to play test the saxophone now i'm actually really curious about the stock setup so the stock mouthpiece and reeds so first i'm going to try out the mysterious mouthpiece with the mysterious wreath that was already on the mouthpiece this needs some cork grease you like that sound i hope you do i finally got a new mic as you can see all right let's go ahead and try this this is the first test [Music] ah okay so i was just playing with a classical embouchure [Music] i'm just noticing this it actually has a high f sharp key at two hundred fifty dollars tax phone with a high f sharp key this is very good [Music] it just cut off my phone because the amber alert was telling me that we're under a flash flood warning um i guess welcome to miami [Laughter] [Music] okay so the altissimo on this setup is not my favorite but the key action feels incredible this is a really really nice saxophone the palm keys feel so good the palm keys feels so good okay now i'm gonna try the synthetic read very curious i've not tried a synthetic read like this before i don't have a great feeling about this but who knows maybe i'll be pleasantly [Music] surprised definitely not my favorite okay so with the classical embouchure that feels and sounds terrible but i feel like it's more fitting for a jazz ensure so i'm going to try a jazz embouchure [Music] that's actually not bad at all i'm very very [Music] pushing [Music] m [Music] foreign [Music] okay so that's enough of this setup when you use this synthetic reed it definitely works a lot better with the jazz embouchure whereas the other ones definitely for more traditional like marching band or just one ensemble or classical saxophone whatever you want to call it now i'm going to go ahead and put on my setup so i'll demonstrate something with the classical setup and then i'll demonstrate another thing with the jazz setup [Music] [Music] huh [Music] mm-hmm [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] [Music] m [Music] really should have put court crease on this thing all right so what did you think which one did you like the most i'm actually pretty shocked at how good the easter is now this is not an endorsement so this is an honest review i really think that horn is really good the key action is really close the palm keys sang the intonation was fine there's no glaringly bad note the low note sealed just fine there's a high f sharp key there's a lot of horns that are thousands of dollars with no f sharp keys that's a really nice beginner horn honestly i also noticed there was a bit more resistance inside i didn't realize my yamaha was so free-blowing but maybe that's the product of ken beeson's after he repaired my saxophone because i ran it over i don't know but i honestly would recommend that for a beginner horn 250 dollars an excellent price for all that it came with the reads it came with a mouthpiece came with a high f sharp key came with great key action came with really neat pearls it came with fully gold shiny lacquer very clean if you want to pick up saxophone you want to get
