[Music] hi welcome back to scripture explorers I'm James I'm Arya and I'm sty and we're the scripture explorers hey Mormon after Nephi and his family got to the promised land what did they do they wanted to start making it a home but things didn't go the way that Lehi and Nephi might have hoped traveling across the desert and ocean was likely very hard on Lehi and once they had arrived in the promised land he knew that he didn't have much time left so he died he knew he would soon and so he spent a lot of his time teaching in his last stage in the first few chapters of second Nephi we see his final teachings to his family and some blessings he promises what did he teach them one of the first things he taught them was that he had seen a vision I don't know if you remember from your studies in the Old Testament but Jerusalem was destroyed more than once actually and Lehi and his family would have been there when it was destroyed one of those times Lehi saw in his vision that it had been destroyed he taught how blessed they had been for God to lead them away from Jerusalem into a beautiful land of promise Lehi also spoke of other things he had learned from the Lord he saw that knowledge about the Americas was kept a secret from many of the nations in the world but that the time would come when others would learn of it and want to travel and live there he also saw that the land would be blessed for the righteous but cursed for the wicked what does that mean it was a warning that if they would obey the Commandments and do their best to follow God there would be many blessings for them but if they did not keep the Commandments they would miss out on those blessings what else did he teach them he taught them about Jesus he knew that Jesus would come and save those who would believe on his name he also tried so hard to reach Layman and Lemuel and pleaded with them to make better choices and be better men he then spoke specifically to Jacob do you know why he may have spoken to him specifically no why it's likely that Lehi knew that one day Jacob would grow up to be a prophet and he wanted to teach him some specific things Jacob had been through a lot in his young life and Lehi taught him that God would consecrate all his afflictions for his gain what does that mean it means that if Jacob trusted in God all the hard things he had been through would be a blessing to him they would teach him and help him grow Lehi also taught about the atonement of Jesus and the fall of Adam do you remember the fall of Adam yeah Adam and Eve were the first people they FR God told them not to then they had to leave this special place called The Garden of Eden many people who believe in the Bible think that Adam and Eve were bad because they ate the fruit and had to leave that beautiful place but Lehi taught us that Adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy in other words it was important for Adam to leave the Garden of Eden also God wants us to be happy Lehi also taught that we've been given the ability to choose what we will do in this life sometimes you'll hear this call agency and if we use our agency to keep the Commandments we can be saved through Jesus Christ did Lehi die after this not yet he had a little more that he had to teach and we'll cover those teachings next [Music] time
