if you happen to watch my video where I took two different width boards and made a perfect mitered 90 with them this video is going to look very familiar to you but today's approach is going to be how do we get an extreme acute angle on a saw that only goes up to a certain amount so in today's example I want a 65 degree cut my miter saw only goes 50 to one side or the other so how do I achieve such a narrow cut on a saw that doesn't go up to 65. I want to show you guys two different ways to do this the first one is going to be quick easy and really hard to mess up the second one is a little easier to mess up but it just might be more beneficial to you so let's take a look at both of them let's start with quick and easy all right to do quick and easy we first need to determine where we need to adjust this table to I need a 65 degree cut if I take 65 from 90 I get 25 so I'm going to swing this over to 25 degrees on my table foreign that's where I'm going to make my first cut I'm going to use this piece of MDF and we're going to make an auxiliary fence I'm going to fasten it to the fixed part of my table with a little bit of double-sided tape and as I've said before if you're not a fan of double-sided tape it's probably because you're using the wrong tape so I'll leave the good stuff down in the description I'm simply going to set this on here just like I would cut anything else up against the fence flat down onto my table and then I'm going to make one single cut right here with that piece cut I can swing this over to 90 and this piece stays put of course because we have it held there with the double-sided tape I drop this into 90. now all I have to do is just put a simple piece of tape right here just like so and when I set my piece that I want to cut in here I put it right up against the edge of this using this as a new fence and I lock it down just like this that tape is going to help the off cut stay put and it's also going to keep this down flat on the table so one I get a better cut but two I'm more safe because I'm out here and with that lock down I can go ahead and just make my cut now it's easy just to remove this scrap just like this very easy to remove our tape we can get rid of our fence if we need to and now I have a perfect 65 degree cut now remember that's not what this angle is this angle is actually 25 degrees but because we established that 25 degree angle ahead of time when we make that cut on 90 it just automatically makes this a 65 degree cut it's pretty cool now let me show you the other way because again the other way might just work better for you I'm going to take the same approach I did before we're going to fasten down our auxiliary fence with some double-sided tape but this time I'm automatically just going to cut it at 45 degrees [Music] all right now we can push this back to zero and from here on out whatever angle we need to cut we just take 45 from it and then we set our saw to that number so to keep it super simple so you can understand this if I wanted a 45 degree cut 45 and 45 is 0 I'd set my saw to zero and this is the end result a nice clean 45 degree cut now in our example we wanted a 65 degree cut so 45 from 65 is 20. I simply bring this to 20 and lock it down and that would be our 65 degree cut and we can just move this back and forth depending on what we need and you can go Extreme as long as your saw can handle it I wanted a 75 degree cut 45 from 75 is 30 and if we set that here at 30 we now have a 75 degree cut and of course with both of these if you wanted to be able to cut from both sides of your material or left hand and right hand angles we would just set up another 45 degree fence on this side and that way you could switch it move your fence back and forth but the math all works the same so there we go two different ways to get extreme acute angles greater than the capacity of our miter saw I hope that helps you guys out we'll see you in the next video
