yes the high demand the dedication all designed meticulously by the Patriots architect in his thirtieth year of coaching can Bill Parcells again produce a Super Bowl team he's a mere victory away four years ago Parcells selected Drew Bledsoe with the number one pick in the draft ordained him the man to lead this team to greatness imagine the burden to answer such lofty expectations what must it take to meet the pressures that go along with success to be baptized under a microscope in a Sports crazed yet champion star of New England today for Bledsoe a rare chance to prove he can four years ago this Boston cowards field goal beat number one ranked Notre Dame a true benchmark in the coaching career of Tom Coughlin a proclaimed disciplinarian his pro mentor bill parcells Coughlin summoned to bring similar success to the expansion Jaguars but no one could have imagined it happening so quickly last week the second-year Jaguars upset the top-ranked team in the AFC now he must defeat the man who instilled in him the lessons of hard work and how to win four years ago Mark Brunell was drafted 117 places after Bledsoe today he champions a season as the NFL's most prolific passer and rushing quarterback how much would it mean for him to prove to those who doubted his talent wrong together today in Foxborough four men a four-year journey four quarters from the Superbowl [Music] [Applause] be clear and cold in Massachusetts whereas the amount of 60,000 fans await the 27th AFC Championship game Jacksonville Jaguars are here against the favored New England Patriots two young teams featuring budding young stars men in their middle twenties with a chance to play in a Super Bowl before their time men was so little experienced but with such extraordinary talent today in the snowy cotton Massachusetts youth will serve Super Bowl notice as we welcome you to the AFC Championship and congratulate the Green Bay Packers they're on their way to the Super Bowl you talked about the Cinderella team Jacksonville first name you hear Mark Brunell let's see what he did last week in the big win at Denver when he stayed in the pocket good numbers 134 yards three or four kneel down for his rushing edge but look what happens when Brunel leaves the pocket he's spectacular seven throws for 111 yards 47 more yards rushing Phil Simms there should be a pretty good message there stop Mark Brunell Bill Parcells all week long he's been preaching his defensive line he says what's the worst position in football that's behind the quarterback because it allows Mark Brunell to step up run or throw the football - when you get a chance to knock a ball down don't jump again he pulls the ball down runs around you and on third down in obvious passing situations look with a patron to take one of their defensive linemen mirroring keep him in that pocket that way you have a chance Drew Bledsoe won't be 25 until next month he's the youngest quarterback ever to pass for 10,000 yards in the league is it amazing the Jaguars are not worried about containing Bledsoe he's not going to go anywhere but they want to do it's worse than the best of all they figure they can create turnovers and be how do you put the Bledsoe in a passing situation just stop the running game Curtis Martin last week this guy ran for 166 yards in three touchdowns you have to stop the rush well the Patriots are favored can Jacksonville inspire another upset win on the road were just moments away from the kickoff [Music] [Music] dear mark I was strong as I could be [Music] with the powerful Vortech engine in a Chevy truck is going to be a major factor right now it is gusting up to 30 miles per hour and that makes the wind chill out here about one degree now the wind did play havoc with the kickers in the pregame warmup and it's going to bother the punters today also drew Blitzer was out here early trying to figure it out he finally said he's not going to worry about it otherwise it's going to screw up his concentration one other thing about the field conditions here a couple of weeks ago they recited the entire field for the playoffs they didn't have enough thought so the Impressionist created over here for jerry mark wright and his crew that there are two five lines and that could come into play well thanks Jim Tom Coughlin gave his team three kids offensively cat Natron means going with the running game defensively pressure Drew Bledsoe hit him throwing those fall away jumpers third be the most physical team on the field because they weren't in the first game this year I got the UJ all right Randy there's the 50-year old head coach at Jacksonville Tom Coughlin's built the team from the very first man he was the first worked out of a trailer near the stadium he has selected the personality has selected the coaches and in two years here they are a game away from the Super Bowl Adam Vinatieri will kick it to 22 Bucky Brooks for 40 Rickey Bell the wind at the back of the Patriots in this first quarter and as Jim indicated it's significant in the warm-ups ticks were traveling 15 yards farther going left to right the advantage the Patriots will have in the opening quarter become cooler of course as the Sun sets but perhaps the wind will decrease as well these fans have not had many opportunities to cheer a playoff game this is only the third for this franchise in its 36th year they have never an AFC championship game [Applause] a Super Bowl against Green Bay works at the 7th special teams of New England are coached by Bill Parcells and he praised them in our chat two days ago Brunell comes on the field in week four in an overtime loss here to New England Brunel had his best numbers of the season forced to pass as they had to rally from being way down the Sally Coleman Waddell till ski Circe young big offensive line Natron means what a playoff easy mastisol Walker Smith and Makar any passes in the regular year and Derrick brown is a tight end from the 20 Oh Sally by Chris plane the Patriots defensively start this way front floor bigger than the front floor that started the year : Squealer sunup hula telly Willie McGinest leads the team with nine and a half sacks Slade loves to rush the master from his back in position Johnson a budding start backer columns the other long Smith of the corners Molloy a rookie from Washington and Willie Clay who led the team in interceptions whipped for safety Changez play and that will cost Jacksonville five several linemen moved including rich till ski the right guard Jerry marked right the referee you make those offensive linemen stay in their stance is too long they get too antsy nervous inside the right guard rich till ski jumps again Mark Brunell audible immense the reason why he couldn't wait one to hit somebody all three guys on their right side when he moved down the line to give him the play this noise you almost have to go with what you called in the huddle at least early second and 15 [Applause] and incomplete Jerome Henderson a Nickelback they set him free [Music] the Rome Henderson number 26 follows the receiver across nobody picks him up with this feat he gets to the quarterback on time to make the hit and this is the backside remember you're looking to the left left-handed quarterback in this game he comes from the backside where he has no one back there to protect him Anderson who has played more and more as the season has developed there down and 15 the shotgun Bruna got some room to run case by side 20 Jacksonville has you know the one thing about this film you talk about the offense of Jacksonville you always hear about Brunel this guy here you got to do brunnelle brunnelle but in order for this team to win Natron means has to have a big game well it helps the situations fall but I believe that you gotta stop pork pernil from making those runs pulling up and making [Applause] at the 4-yard and marker Larry wait on the one [Music] the ball a set of two I what he has to do is step protection watch where he stepped or will go to his hot where the defenders coming if he if he just steps up and kicks the ball he's got it he's going to play like a quarterback step up into the pocket they got the gun outside block and be stepped up he could have made the kick call you're absolutely right huge early break for the New England Patriots they take over at the Jacksonville for high snap of center [Applause] manus leading the defensive charge [Applause] boy on seho Barker's going to sit there look at that thing and all he has to do is step straight up with the ball and make the kick see because the demand is block well you know he's not putting that situation too many times so when he gets in half stamp a lot of times hey first time you're going to panic and tough situation for a cutter marvel at 14 his fourth in two weeks Curtis Martin University of Pittsburgh third round Nick breasts for 1,400 almost 1,500 last year another 1,100 this finitary Patriot's opportunistically take two plays after the heist at the center to lead at seven to nothing - button played for the New England Patriots both times they kind of overpower the defensive line of Jacksonville that's the way you want to start New England owner Robert Kraft leading this year's 60,000 here in Foxborough the first score for New England is easy seven snap and a takeover at the floor of Jacksonville Curtis Martin scores and now military has it teed up will kick again to Brooks and Bell [Music] [Applause] 31 yard line the former Buffalo Bill Ray Lucas makes the tag on rich Griffith is the snapper for Jacksonville yeah but you see Brad Barker now watch what he does look up in front of him you know you have enough back and what the backs are doing is they're putting people to the outside they keep them out there if lurker steps up he can get the kick off with no problem at all just like a quarterback the snapper high throws are almost always trouble low ones Alicia have a chance to catch it and do something with it just as the Jaguars have started every game of the playoffs they fall behind her [Applause] guns at the Jimmy Smith near a first down at the 40 yard line Otis Smith non-related covering you see these two young quarterbacks Pro Nels 26 blood-cell 24 completions and attempts the busiest two throwers in the NFL this year and Brunel led the league in yardage when they were both busy but they were both good and I think during the championship the opportunities with the ball they know what to do with it don't make a lot of mistakes second and short Mastan and me earns a couple yards but a flag thrown in the pond if it counts if the first down it unless [Applause] holding Jacksonville [Applause] the Jaguars were one of the most penalized teams in fact led the league mostly here [Applause] Vasili the first 12 games of the year you see they average nearly 10 the penalties again look what's happened though down the stretch only 19 penalties in the last six games and where this penalty is a backbreaker fill that you've got seconds and in about a half a yard and you get a 10-yard penalty that kills a young team one at second Angela [Applause] and dangerously close to caroming back for an easy interception well that's a play they've had great success with the last two weeks there were basically four wide receivers in a tight end they spread the field they try to give the quarterback Mark Brunell just a little bit of space so he can get rid of the ball quickly but New England was ready for it they shipped 86 towards the live receivers the ball almost got the interception goes underneath the rookie from Alabama stayed in ruski of arizona rookie linebacker to England was all over he's really sometimes the fourth down linemen at this time in a long long yardage situation he diagnoses the play heywhat he has a speed he runs around any potential blockers and makes the play marker has to be on his toes here after his last episode good snap from Griffith Regan's try return to the 38 yard line 36-yard punt six on the return brueski has done his work New England back on the feet so I pull into this gas station on the bayou by Lotus work the web with Lotus Domino by the car that makes way the new Eclipse from Mitsubishi built for living and by American Express wherever you are whatever you're doing American Express helps you do more to camp always pay attention Bryan Barker watch Wiggum come in boy got a look all around you man he gets upset by this cuz it gets his uniform dirty you know those letters have to hit the ground to do something that no coach in NFL history has done when a Super Bowl with two different teams [Applause] [Music] let's those horseback Kevin Hardy the rookie from Illinois linebacker makes the stop introduce the offense for New England Armstrong to another Pro Bowl with veteran Roberts former giant Willa ball Ruchi and Lane it's a lot of stars a lot of Pro Bowlers on offense Bledsoe goes to Honolulu as his running back Martin does buyers from Miami midseason Jefferson and the brilliant rookie Terry Glenn from Ohio State Ben coats another Pro Bowl year the tight end second down the toss to mark runs into a pack of white trim or yard line where it'll be third down and about for your kovitch and McManus on the Jacksonville side with a tackle and here are their starters lawman Davy yerkovich and the veteran Simmons has had big plays in both of the playoff wins party McManus and Robinson the backers Aaron Beasley a rookie from West Virginia at one corner Mickey Washington the other Dana Hall Chris Hudson the safety only 13 interceptions all season long for that defense [Applause] Glenn he didn't drop many during the course of the year caught 90 in fact more than any rookie receiver in well it's a good job by the New England offensive lab picking up the rush when they came and look at the whole Drew Bledsoe has for Terry Glenn Terry Glenn takes his eyes off it just a second before the ball gets there that causes the drop our Seles doesn't praise many players but he had high acclaim for tufas acquisitions it gives me a third-string quarterback and he's been a terrific mother Chris Hudson the safety of the other hand scuffs this one Knutson waited the price tackle back of the ten yard nine minutes eight seconds left in the opening quarter in New England I feel very safe in this car people love talking about foreign tourists I mainly bought it for safety and security I like the way it looks this car is everything I need to fit my life stuff feel safe reassuring it handles well hug the road I can turn on a dime I finally found a manufacturer who listens to the customer Ford Taurus [Music] [Applause] looking to the north the Setting Sun and hood downtown Boston we go online to nbc.com sly sports here from some of the NFL's top coaches regarding the playoffs get inside the NFL go online nbc.com / porn [Applause] with a 21 the wind chill six degrees seven nothing from the 14 possession room outside and scrambles out to the 24-yard line a 10-yard run right after 6:00 Chris Slade made sure he did not get more fill with his he fries Chris Slade with this pump well he freezes everybody what's the the defensive line they get too far down inside and Mark Brunell gets outside very easily because then you've got to stay in your lanes and hey is he gonna throw as you go run here deep into play you don't know you gotta wait for him to make his decision first down to the 24 that's two scrambles for for 15 yo positive yards Jaguars have at the moment means Jersey's at the calories fourth-year linebacker from carson-newman who led the charge there's the man who's happened on the first punt rich Griffith and injured him on that play ball phrase that accounts for his being the snap snapper in the last corner left ankle sprain is what we hear ineligible man downfield against Jacksonville or too many men on the field too many men on the field Tom Coughlin with a quizzical expression that's the kind of penalty a disciplined coach hates to see while you're making some mental errors in the beginning of the ballgame you can tolerate a whole lot of things physically getting beat Phil but you cannot tolerate mental errors [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so you have to report when you're an eligible receiver and Brian DeMarco did not he was uncovered that's right 50 60 s and numbers in the 70s are the ones that have to report but they decline it knowing London second and nine [Applause] [Music] milk comes out shotgun [Applause] emotion the protector wide open is Mitchell on the tight end who played at Boston College has the first town 12 on the play mitchell was the third leading receiver for the Jags this year with 52 well Pete Mitchell on the inside he has the option when he goes down the field to break in around it's a tough position for the demon sit back and Mark Brunell him they didn't dream together all year long and did a very good job numbers on the regular-season first [Applause] McGuinness one of the things I'm seeing with this defense of the Patriots the defensive line and linebackers are staying close to the line of scrimmage they aren't in Willie McGinest number 55 does a good job get in the back field then readjusting and making the tackle behind the line of scrimmage you want to stop the running game penetration destroys it so far New England's done a good job at all McGinnis who had a solid year 11 sacks last year nine and a half sacks this past season [Applause] [Music] [Applause] every time means Jetson baller two or three Patriots on him led by Ted Johnson the middle linebackers from Colorado Deccan Estes support I was talking about if you take a look at the line and linebackers all of these guys are heading right to the ball they're not worried about they know that the people in the secondary are going to stay on their men that's what Bill Parcells stressed always long don't need your people downfield man that frees up these linebackers bag Juarez less penalty mistakes have not the last three games Brunell has cut down on his interception rate mean success [Applause] first down as Caitlin McArdle at the 44 he needed three more Chris Slade made the stop and the punting team sent out by Oh son Jacksonville comes into the game like you did that time five wide receivers or four wide receivers in feed Mitchell New England twice sendagaya the secondary on the Blitz the offensive line we seek an account poin makes Renard mark Bernal for the buck before he wants to attempt to swallow one of them make it at the 21 [Applause] 33 yard line 12 yards on the return from mega the only 35 on the punt timeout five and a half remaining opening quarter dr. pepper presents now is the time to say what Barnhart will punt it away they're going to fake it through it it hit slump get it in the head what happened I don't know what's going on but they got to wake up these days it seems like everything is the official something of somebody what's that the official fall break team mascot putting this guy here and this one here his girlfriend and this kid see see they're breaking dr. pepper just does it taste great it's kind of the official sauce right you will know like this guy with the proper he executes the one-handed twist you can't coach stuff it's a thing of beauty bored Ranger is so useful it could even do your laundry fort first make sure your clothes are dirty enough and detergent built align with water water put on spin cycle and hangar clothes out to dry Warren Ranger America's best-selling compact pickup starting at just 10 880 definitely make the white whiter an errand snap deep in Jacksonville territory Brian Barger tackled at his for led in the only snore of Curtis Martin one-yard run for touchdown drew bledsoe house he performed in cold weather NFL games three games under 30 and three wins for Bledsoe on in that Colts game in 93 81 percent completions this then will be probably coldest environment in which he's operated although he's used to it grew up in Walla Walla Washington and the east of that state throws underneath complete Lamar yard line again of five all right so Jackson Belt defense what they need to do is do what they did against the Denver Broncos a week ago play conservative don't give up the big play but you know I probably want to do that what they really want to do to they wouldn't mind getting the throwing contest with New England sometimes they feel like drew blood salty making throwing up will make two or three bad decisions force the ball in coverage and they hope to get the turnover [Applause] [Music] the 36 by 20 Bracken's the youngest man on this Jacksonville team just 22 the University of Texas rainy bracket just gave us an example fill of what penetration is all about he got in the backfield Tony brackets number 90 he gives up the meals doesn't allow the rudder the choice to make a cut in or out Barry Sanders was Martin was second with 40 have to be a good for that many lawsuits [Applause] and Shawn [Applause] 23 yards here so many times it all starts with the offensive line they did a great job so plenty of protection nobody around him and Sean Jefferson running down the field and deep into back slips but nobody is in the middle of the field for the Jacksonville Jaguars easy completion and again Bledsoe had all day Phil to throw the football when you have that much time you better find somebody open Jefferson had 50 catches on the air his career alive former San Diego charger [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the things that you cannot do when a back comes out to the outside with the speed of Martin it's duck your head Yuka you've got to get upfield Beasley watch this when he comes up to make the play he duck your head when you duck your head he's gone honey what Curtis Martin did on that play right there is what coaches call playing above the X's and O's you don't have to block it perfectly all the time he made something happen once you get the ball Martin get replaced the standalone running back behind bludsoe first down at the 31 mega [Applause] man has made the tackle that he Robinson what a wonderful play by Dave mega silly the play was designed as a draw to go up in the middle and it didn't go that way well Dave mega comes in the game the team's always think what might be a passing situation they make it finds the hoe it's to the outside he's a patient runner best a big key with him why successful he waits and lets the blocks happen then he makes his decision on the way to the Pro Bowl is Meggitt such a valuable all-around player second officially called it an eight-yard and to [Applause] he's made the tackle Curtis Martin had such a Bill Parcells pisanio leading up to the fix per game he says you know Curtis do you have big game to teach because every time we get in the middle play that one so he did a great job last week so this week what was the things hey Martin do you have very big games in a really big game so bill I think he's answering your question early he's ready to play whoever can please the big tuna was tagged as the coach of the Giants play-action deflection if they're in Beasley to the 20 to the only one interception on the regular season with a key pick those pass deflected you got control the game you got to be a little conservative watch Ben coax run down the field and break it out and just look at all the defenders around him from the Jacksonville Jaguars he goes down the field three defenders front back to the side you cannot take those chances when you got control of the ball Tom McManus the linebacker had drifted back number 55 it appears he gets the tip there this was right back to the beginning when we said that make him throw the football they'll make mistakes first down at the Jacksonville 23 first time throws down the middle complete at the 35 to Jimmy Smith Smith has a first down near midfield on the play well there's wind in Jacksonville face I didn't see at that time Mark Brunell just throws a strike down the field to Jimmy Smith good job selling the route up the field shoulder speed make a defender thing you going deep when you break in nobody's there Smith out of football two years ago with another big cat best field position for Jackson go to their own and Brunel appeared to cover an errand snap dick Smith is a wonderful story you know we talked to him last week and about being out of football and then hearing comes back and you most of you who saw the catch he made last week Bears here's the thing Brunel just doesn't get the ball into his hands but smart enough to get it down on top of it when the ball drops straight down that means the quarterback didn't get a hand up on the football so sorry mark I got a blame out here I'm sorry just got to get that bottom hand final minute first quarter second and 10 [Applause] [Music] to a first down at the new england 44 probably the last play of the quarter brown off injured marghe Rennell throw a little pressure in his face Willie McGinest coming at him but does a good job he's really an excellent thrower the football on the run lawyer Milloy rodeos him down and close enough for a measurement first down [Music] [Applause] Mark Brunell enjoys golf to an Easter day that my I was coming in behind that'd be a tough line [Laughter] [Music] be the final seconds out of this opening quarter 7 nothing New England you're watching the AFC Championship on NBC here Doris got a meeting in Davenport be back tomorrow [Music] once upon a time a businessman figured out a brand-new way to travel afternoon cars broke down a couple miles back gonna miss a big meeting and Davenport that's so fly me there and back let me get this straight you want me to fly you there sit there and wait for you while you have this meeting then fly you back through the years one airline that's always listened to the business flyer United's employee owners have found it really pays let me get this straight you want coffee on the plane while we're in the air a couple our friendly skies [Music] you okay I'm fine where are you in New York Who am I she comes and who are you I sit down not going anywhere for a while grab a Snickers to the Batcave the cast of a Fish Called Wanda is back he likes animals in a whole new breed of animal John Cleese Jamie Lee Curtis Kevin Kline fierce creatures rated pg-13 starts Friday January 24th Mickey Cochrane Lee high school basketball coach of the old marcel's ourselves says he's borrowed so much from this man who kicked him off the team for three days taught him a lesson Rose Marcel's took a technical in a game and to show you how the whole legacy builds Corcoran was coached in high school by Vince Lombardi from the sweetness II film ourselves around [Applause] it's really the only going to serve [Applause] when Jacksonville [Applause] [Music] [Applause] any gain at all the entire inner defence of the Patriots there to smother his attempt the Jacksonville Jaguars final six games of the year look at how they're rushing yards improved and that of course was the emergency of Natron means injured earlier in the year James Stewart the leading rusher for Jacksonville names takes over and he's been most difficult for opposing defenses in the playoffs those low this time incomplete Michell well taken Paul when you rush the football well in the nest of the Football League you don't have to take chances you're always in control and look at Jacksonville that's the reason why their turnovers went down and penalties went down you're in situations you can control and it makes a lot easier and winning football the new only two interceptions by Brunel the last six games [Applause] Green complete it's the tight-end Mitchell again animals for a first down at the 34 yard line boy was that place set up beautifully it is hard set up beautifully it's something that Kevin Gilbride who run who used to coaching the running shoot brought to this offense into Tom Coughlin's middle screams a great job by the offensive line and when the defenders come in timing is the most important thing on screen plays and it worked well there's Kevin Gilbride he's considered one of the top picks to take over for vince successful for a long time Vicki he deserves a hip coaching job Manasa football a corner blitz bro now breaks one tackle [Applause] [Music] let's go back to that graphic a little while ago about the turnovers and not that not the turnovers when you're running the football and you've got the conversation in one of the meetings where even when you throw the ball as much it is Brunel did it's not necessarily a good thing well that's right can you because you're in situations that that are tough Paul and you can just see Mark Brunell what a factory is even when you had the right defense call they get to the quarterback goon he's not the big draw or get back at the 36 so that's a sack for slave laws [Applause] rose complete again to the tight end and Mitchell is finding a lot of openings in that secondary of New England times made the tackle well Jacksonville has a lot of faith in its offensive line five wide receivers this makes the lime and block one-on-one and look at Tony bacilli against we begin assistant ex-teammates he's not a difference but willing to get us has that speed and that create power it's the best of the cell Tony Miceli had his hands in his facemask they could have called okay [Applause] [Music] Mitchell again that's four catches for Pete Mitchell who was recruited by Tom Coughlin's to come to Boston College and acquired Mitchell from the Miami Dolphins last year one of the things are happening with Mitchell here get Mitchell one-on-one on a safety and when you got that matchup that we're now just for him he's playing catch with him that's why is there Tom Coughlin no he just has what they call feel for a while or you know a receiver can get down the field push off people and make Matt Johnson there to lead the defense Johnson a budding star at middle linebacker the man with a 20 inch neck that likes to read romantic novels he said that nothing I like better than a good love story on this guy you know you got to be tough to say that thing in the master football [Applause] driving positions inside the 15-yard line it'll be third down and three while Jacksonville knows that they can't win this ballgame only on the arm of Mark Brunell they have got to be able to run the football and sub complan is as we talked so many times dick the disciplinarian he's gonna go back to the running game he's going to run the football these comes out on 3rd and 3 this is the 12 play of the drive since Aaron Beasley made the interception and returned to the Jacksonville 20 [Applause] emotion was slaves was all over Brunel Coughlin's will bring on the field goal unit that means Mike Collis second year kicker from Idaho he made all but six in the regular season 30 of 36 and you see he's only missed one in the playoffs only five 775 this one from 32 yards with the wind and he plays it through Jacksonville on the board with 10 minutes 33 seconds left in the opening half your daughter has an American Express student card she'll be able to Super Bowl record book is brought to you by the casino Queen Super Bowl mine the Steel Curtain hugs the Vikings to only 17 yards on the ground but what team along few lucky yards the answer after this message Russy all I need is one of your shoes maybe I don't want your stinking shoe that shoot the 20th is Chicago Bears awesome defense holds the Patriots 207 rushing yards holding a new Super Bowl defensive mark for the monsters of the middle in the Super Bowl record book second Eve years of GT academic all-america that's never happened before all four years he all a student throughout high school and an A student than the University of Wisconsin he's too smart to be playing this game [Applause] and it comes down short - Sean Jefferson you could see the wind bet that wind up Randi crust is with us Thank You Dickey you know the reason that kick was so short inside this could drop out of the air there's no real wind direction down here on the field it's more like wind shear the ball would get up in the air and the winds up knocks it straight down to the ground back to you dick diddly just happened on that pass I mean it and blitzen looked like he put enough in it watch this ball just die it comes down it just drops I mean it's not even close bird and [Applause] - Bledsoe comes this side complete - Terry Glenn but short of the first down at the 42 23 Beasley the young corner on the coverage Heba too deep and the punting team on now for New England you know we're looking we're looking at Jacksonville and we talked about it Phil just be conservative just do you know don't get carried away don't go try to blitz and do all these different things just be conservative defensive that what they're doing that's right at New England did the wrong thing see they jump down in top seven to nothing see jack civilians confident once they get behind they got to get behind before they feel like they're in the game tufas first punt with a win this one into that cheer like force to the 13 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Mike marjoram recovers the fumble well one thing that happens on days where it's cold the football it gets hard it's slippery and they coming down the receivers hands a lot easier excellent job by Marty more causing the fumble [Applause] there's Marty war coming in is just just ripping it with his arm [Applause] [Music] Cheers to big breaks on the kicking game for New England [Applause] nearly [Music] so if you're just joining us for this AFC Championship Bill Parcells saw Brian Barker unable to get a punt off and on fourth down New England took over at the Jacksonville four and this man Martin scored two plays later on a one-yard run and now the fumble on a punt so special teams in Bill Parcells that had that twinkle in his eye as they talked about how Waldo year second and one [Applause] he almost threw that one away down at the feet of the receiver he did every night so that's what you call a good throw because there's nothing open don't create a bad situation for the team set at second and short and that's the one thing you learn as a quarterback the coach has given you that opportunity to take a shot but don't make the bad play out we can always pick it on Monday just because they gave you the hit sign three no it doesn't mean you have to chase the curveball outside you let that one go that's right 300 go to the sound yardage Kelvin Pritchett the former Detroit line and Clyde Simmons with a penetration there Oh decision here you kick the field goal they already stuffed you had certain one you lost a hat you lose the half a yard on the play there is absolutely no decision at all as you get that seven-point lead back rookie Adam Vinatieri from South Dakota State that Jackrabbits in Brookings their share of ice and snow up there the natira accustomed to kicking in cold weather this 129 yards is we have a [Music] across the month the got dark scoreboard has impacted one scoreboard completely out the other is blinking futile II when out looks like we will have to come back and play it tomorrow [Laughter] well let's go down to our electrical experts in Bray I don't know about that dick but I've just been told by security here at the stadium that the East transformer just went out and they're on a backup generator right now they'll send the people in the New England power and lights and to try and fix it and we'll get some more information to you when we have a dick well they had the fog last weekend that one could barely say they managed through it by that comparison there's a it's pretty good there do they at this hour there's enough light to certainly see the action whether or not it would inhibit play will soon fine they may have to try to play in this condition why you look at the scoreboard it just erase the seven points for the Patriots so the score is three nothing now let me just [Laughter] well the coaches and players wait for power we remind you that after our coverage of this AFC Championship - stay tuned to NBC tonight for Dateline can you really beat baldness this man thought he could but you won't believe what it cost him plus she was Playboy's miss May in 1976 but did it cost her her job 20 years later watch Dateline later tonight only on NBC Jim dick T remarked right just sent the team to their respective benches plate could not continue like this would be very difficult for them to see the ball kick punted or pass so we sent both teams back over their sidelines and when we have more information from Gerry or from the people who are trying to fix the transformer once again we'll get back to you now we've talked about it before in baseball and golf and other sports when it's dark our our lens have the capability of opening so wide that it appears to be much lighter than it actually is it those of you watching must wonder well why don't they play well it's a darker than it would seem at the moment were in the second quarter New England going for a field goal in a 7-3 lead up to you by Domino's Pizza call now to enjoy our delicious Domino's Pizza by halftime for aa call Domino's now well the lights went out in New Englanders we welcome you back to Foxborough with a score 7-3 the Patriots about the lineup for a 29 yard field goal and Jim Gray just has reported that Gerry marked bright the referee said he will not allow play to continue under these conditions so someone has to find the fix-it switch well you know you and I can go back there I don't know if this guy can turn out but you don't you still wouldn't print cars in here we can put the lights this was a lot of light back in our made of Michigan I'll tell you we wish we could have had anything like this no I never did know didn't play many night games Paul we weren't good enough huh all right Curtis Martin has the only touchdown of the game and speaking of utilities Curtis offered an interesting little call this definitely ice in a kicker I mean a new meaning to that the problem is the ice their own actually it will be spotted inside the 2020 nine yards officially a good hold and three for New England 10 to 3 the mid point of the second quarter [Music] Hansa presents great drives how did the Jets engineer the biggest upset in Super Bowl history stay tuned [Music] [Music] [Music] passport yes [Music] behind the leadership of Broadway Joe Namath the sweet hands of George sour and the power running of Matt's know the Jets watched 66 yards in 12 plays building a lead they would never really wish on their way first up said in Super Bowl history well did conclude you can see the lights almost fully illuminated now here at Foxboro Stadium New England with two breaks off the special teams able to move the four yards for the touchdown after the fumble recovery Chris Hudson stumbled on the punt return they moved seven yards are stopped and settle for the 29 yard field goal so special teams as Bill Parcells predicted accounting for the tenth at New England points it was a 12 minute delay and now military to kick it off to Brooke Simbel [Applause] looks at the man 23 yard line ray with a style the current conditions when he five degrees temperatures dropped a couple degrees actually the wind chill about the same as the wind has died some way [Applause] Jacksonville's coldest games have all been in the 40s and you can see that Cleveland game the third game forty-two degrees the coldest ever in there two years prior to today but they won [Music] and blocking McGinnis away from a possible touchdown this is a good job Willie McGinest number 50 grab what Ignasi he stays discipline he stays outside so the quarterback can't get around the corner where he can run and throw have that option stays in marksmen burnell's Faison that's what good horses talk to him all week staying from the quarterback McGinnis was a high school basketball star and long Zucco's very effective as a pass rusher second in town [Music] [Applause] today 27 and a flag down tackle by Otis Smith he delivered Otis Mendes terrific pickup by New England veteran from Missouri and Metairie Louisiana would like to go too much in the mask however cost them five and a first down or close to it number 45 Otis Smith though watch his right hand it's up in the mask it's got it by the mask and he's pulling them down I mean you got you got a chance there for almost a 15-yard penalty because of one what they do is they determine if the head is turned Phil you snapped the head down fifteen yard penalty that that arm pulled him to the ground second and [Applause] and I think that's the officials finally caught their own air all the scoreboard and the down box all second and one first play was the incomplete pass remember that was batted down by Willie McGinest and then means run on second down with the penalty so it would be third and one you just remember something is because there's a facemask penalty in now of five yards a five-yard facemask oh it is not first down [Music] the dollars collected it's second down and one [Music] yardage plus the personal what happened is it second down they get a penalty in second down so they they take the penalty remains the same they didn't take the game they took the penalty on means time much in the open Callens leads the defense on the attack of a big one for Jacksonville was slow getting up means 240 pounds on just a 510 frame and [Applause] he appears to be fairly serious seriously injured he can't put his full weight on his legs the charges to the Super Bowl a couple of years ago with a 1300 yard season and then cut by San Diego this year well it's his right leg they're looking at why he's laying on the ground looks like Collins the linebacker lands on the back of his ankle or his foot watch his right leg [Applause] the government in right from the right hand side here he comes as he goes down [Applause] and it turns out ankle over with all that way to three different players about a eight hundred pounds on him can't tell who fought with Todd Collins number 59 who falls in the back of his his right foot [Applause] and this Jack this Jacksonville team they have really gotten used used to running the football and play in a certain way over these last six weeks with Natron means so this could really be a big factor in her play calling so means only eleven yards in the game nine carries for only a they really are keying the defense against his runs and this is quite in contrast to what he's done in the last four games 90 to 110 175 a career high in Buffalo another hundred forty last week and look at the average for Russia increasing in each game but not today nine fairies James Stewart the Jaguars and rushing in the regular year 4:33 second year back from Tennessee replaces means he's too it's third and one [Applause] wide open underneath is Kenan McArdle and Cardella tend to that ankle of means well that was a good job by the Jacksonville Jaguars they come out there they got into formation named mud people around and it confused the defense of the New England Patriots nobody was over the wide receiver and one grenade filing season wide open nobody covering throws the ball [Applause] not drum solo 37 yard line [Applause] five two yards for a first down Otis Smith makes the tackle well we've talked about the Jaguars wanted to stop Curtis Martin and obviously the Patriots wanted to stop Natron Meads now I'm here here comes Stewart to the outside there's pretty good defense there but he's got a little bit more speed I think to the outside then they tried means azzam here's the Cardell block a little holding will blocking second down too short three [Applause] [Music] no class good job by Martin Brunel he's outside the pocket so he can throw the football it went past the line of scrimmage the most important thing he knew that they used the scrambling to be able to buy himself an extra second or two just to get rid of the football it's got to drive defensive lineman McGinnis and these guys crazy because you get close to him when you get close to a play the throws the ball of where runs away from him he is definitely outside you sorry he's yelling at the fire thinks like a Shaolin it's late that's a surprise he hit me all another player [Applause] two defensive back limber 30 played his college ball at Michigan and on times the punting team only three people rushing the quarterback Mark Brunell noses Pete Mitchell's cover tries to throw the ball a little harder throws it behind him just a little bit and he knows it get it in front of the receiver he have to get markered a bunt with Megadeth lose Adrian's 15 [Applause] and a bad kick off the side of the foot we'll just died at the 25-yard line Brian Barker went frontal camping in Denver last week his problems continue [Music] introducing the new Acura 3.5 RL luxury sedan we gave an extraordinary low-end torque and for responsiveness we gave it the longest wheelbase in its class for stability and interior space and when you get it on the road you'll swear we also gave it dancing lessons and added justice much Castrol Syntec and waited and waited UCC Tech has unique molecular structure that bongs to engine box protecting them under the most torturous conditions and if a little syntek protects this well imagine what a full oil change can do trust will soon check for synthetic protects in ways otherwise can't I can't believe it happened to me I mean either the car tires are gone and the battery the battery everybody goes for bed and you can see them changing economy you explained to them when maybe they were feeling in a position of powerlessness Bobby could you call a cab a great theory when something happens to somebody else I want to give that I think that's what this is all about really being in good hands is the only place to be starts with wait then the new hint Chicago Suns another brother yeah bring it by the house sometime and introduce you to Uncle Fester yeah music radio personality Frankie where are the guys new neighbors more than friends better sneak a look he's on your ledge NBC Wednesday time of the year where a former Commissioner Pete Rozelle who passed away a month ago so proud of what's happened under his leadership the Super Bowl upcoming and had a wonderful memorial service in Los Angeles this past week his daughter Ann Marie with a poignant an elegant speech about her father aside that many just didn't know is [Music] Curtis Martin finally wrestled by Aaron Beasley very important final four minutes of the half for these two teams New England leading by seven what's Tom McManus number 55 on the defense come up into the hole nobody's blocking him whoa can't make the tackle Curtis Martin just has that speed that burst even when you don't block them all he can get around to that Jeff logging the number 56 goes down the line of scrimmage he created a hole the linebackers got to be in the Hall of Co that was the first first down for the Patriots this quarter for the sidelines party finally box top with the second and four Natron means his condition Randy well dick he was down here he cut off the spat job on his shoe tried to walk around when to the far end of the bench had to sit back down they've cut off the old tape job to put a new one on and just see how this thing works out to put her back in the shoe and let him run and see how it is back to you dick they work feverishly on the big running back for the Jaguars meanwhile watch shows 3:12 3:11 left in the half knowing limit their own 45 yard line second and four [Applause] as slide simmons again registers a big playoff move simmons has been a star for the jaguars the previous two playoff wins well you talk about timing blitzen's all about timing ones the jaguars they come in on the Blitz what is the ball it's nap that confuses the blocking just enough for Drew Bledsoe cannot focus look down the field and get rid of the football the guy the guy he really is number 50 is Eddie Robinson coming up but he gets into a Bledsoe face you look at Sims in the playoffs nine tackles three sacks an interception for a touchdown that really turned Jacksonville back over the game hello and a blocked extra point last week [Applause] Terry Glenn with a diving chance and that was a time where the bowl appeared to be thrown ten yards too far the wind got it in almost with an acrobatic catch boy this is Terry Glen is so exciting and Bill Parcells says he reminds me a lot of Paul Warfield and he just out runs the defensive back here and Beasley and drew bledsoe really does a good job of laying it out there as far as he can throw it's almost a big play supa [Applause] chuckles today looks for a block gets one 22 yard 44 yards on the punt by tuba we're made the tackle the Jaguars come on with 2:18 left in the half let's say these guys are going after the punters we saw Barker getting deal watch to play you're going down you gotta pay attention son it could be a little payback - yeah look at super say what are you doing to me yeah you did it to bite me just laugh at his eyes how do you want took a who has a great sense of humor you know a little verbal punctuation to go along are you saying he likes the talk does a little bit yeah [Applause] it was the last wave of blow before they finally dragged him down Willie clay and the two safeties making the tackle as they'll not get off another play at the two-minute warning Stuart's 15 yard run move Jacksonville to the 37 the Jags trill by 7 Francis Maguire aka Frankie that angel wanted for the crime of murder FBI's after kamikaze was doing business with here I'm here to bring him here not going back home on March 26 a man of justice and a man of vengeance are destined to collide there is no way out for him the devil's own this picture has not yet been rated opens everywhere 1:26 did we went with Hertz number one club goal number one club not exactly can't we skip the rental counter like it hurt no not exactly exactly in rent-a-car this hurts and there's not exactly we can't repeat that too often if you were the client would you let the club we just like exactly [Music] [Applause] [Music] Tuesday on Mad About You Jamie can handle kids no problem hey Don day news radio and breakers caught with a convicts white don't kill us then with Caroline finally here Richard secret love letter we had a power delay and for Jacksonville their power back Natron means certainly check bys [Music] and then for 16 yards now a first down time outs left [Applause] chased by sway throws in the flat rejection [Applause] time law the coverage and with that win to the sidelines Brunel throw into that side win sinking gay he's been a little careful when he's throwing the ball outside not letting me get away from him but this is about the third or fourth ball that he's thrown with you it's big lo got down and zebras chuckle good catches this time not able to get it hopper by Willie Jackson Brunel completion in his last six attempts [Applause] [Laughter] [Applause] no pass asthma Cardell did not get was he rocked by law one of those to hit him and you Molloy was in the area this is tackler a blitz by Denis Leyland picked up very well Mark Brunell throws it down the field and dick I think you're right he's up in the air Jerome Henderson who comes over 26 complete burden ten [Applause] [Music] broski got a little slap at the top of the head it may have been him there's brewski number 54 look at brewski he's mirroring the quarterback he's not Russian he's just watching the whole way that's his job today he's under the line of scrimmage stops if Mark Brunell brings forward around the pocket then chasing well that's a great [Applause] producer [Applause] Gonzalez catching risky stocking [Applause] [Music] to the 29 in a ten-yard returned by the veteran of a 43-yard pada now New England with plenty of time to add to their 10 to 3 lead 129 left in the half reminder at halftime we'll have our Domino's Pizza halftime report all our friends are with us Greg Gumbel with coaches Dickon Gibbs and Chris Collinsworth in a mod first-half analysis and the highlights of the Green Bay when that stopped the Carolina Express now they are all set to go I'd be a little concerned if I were the Patriots because their outfits really they have not done a thing in this ballgame is the running by [Applause] [Laughter] [Applause] Simmons trailing back to helm on on the stop an 18-yard play and didn't blitz Oh throw that one she I don't understand with three timeouts why don't you just go ahead and take one a long play like this eats up the clock [Applause] let's all throws on the [Music] by the center [Applause] 3:45 of Jacksonville donate Bracken's appeared to be the man who was offside and then hit blitz oh let's see if there are two flags on the field there's actually three of them there's one in the middle of the field where the ball was snapped is one over here on the right [Applause] [Music] see they have the question is now when let's--oh throws the ball is this thing deflected by alignment well is it is it I'm just I'm questioning whether it's not a fumble Wetzel's gets out of the pocket and it's a fumble that ball never gets back and comes forward with this drawing motion so if that's the case then Walmart did the right thing this ball is Ted that's a bad break for the Patriots it appears that was a fumble and that's how that man saw it that's it I'm gonna tell you what a great observation because that is definitely a fumble Bledsoe is putting this arm back to throw the ball he's not going forward with the ball and a ball to sit out watch blitz those are now there they come back to the outside and watch his arm he's throwing up the ball comes out he is not going forward with the ball this should be a buckle wall bought gets the ball in the air and it should be first down set at his second down and 10 from the 47 of New England what's up and plate to mega it breaks the tackle [Music] I tell you why then play was set up beautifully for a big game Eddie Robinson number 50 of the Jaguar sheep is on number 50 he sees it all the people out front get may get behind the line of scrimmage but cannot make the tackle on Dave Megan when he gets his hands on it he's always going forward with the football know one of my pet peeves again it just happened the offensive linemen are already looking downfield Bledsoe and Terry marks right for Epps Tolo conversing about the previous play third down and two [Applause] Porter Don Davey Travis Davis make the tackle and Bill Parcells spins his first time out 29 seconds showing and will see the Patriots strategy when we return New England with a touchdown lead this is the Pentium processor inside the PC that runs the cd-rom that lets you plan a vacation by taking a virtual tour and since it is a connected cd-rom it hooks to a related website through your PC's internet link so you can go on until booked a hotel which makes you happy that you have a Pentium processor surprised by that time out till well I am surprised think I thought maybe let the clock run down till maybe seven or eight seconds or left and then take a shot throwing the ball in the end zone or trying to get a pass interference to get a score they are going to go for it on fourth down now are they are they going to do a long pattern offside well I think it's a pretty big gamble Pau I would guess long snap count here you don't want to give the ball back to Jacksonville [Applause] are gonna go for it it's what's up [Applause] [Laughter] another time up with 20 30 seconds left got a kid who's a big spots of big games heats up one there [Music] they were really growing up spilt marcelles you'll never figure him out the once big cokes number 87 what he's trying to do is just get a little shield by John Burke number 85 when he sees he finally gets a little traffic problem he cut underneath a nice safe play a good call by the Patriots in that situation wore to a big body over the line of scrimmage and phone who made the big catch late in the game against the New York Giants is New England rally from 20 to nothing down to beat the Giants 2322 in the final minutes and that got them home-field [Applause] for the sidelines and a shorty and even to make it as it was well read by the Patriots to be Eddie Robinson walk now stopped at 15 seconds that's the last timeout for New England they had two guys both guys on the outside of hitch and goal and the Jacksonville Jaguars just played safe defense they just got back there was just no place for Bledsoe to throw the ball so he dumped it off it would have been better off just throwing it away that's right they were going for the quick score now you go for the field goal Jacksonville you know they're not gonna get pulled and give you the big play go for a short gain or two on the sideline impossible just give your team a chance to kick the field goal about 15 seconds no time left they're out of field goal range kicking into a very brisk 20 mile-an-hour wind would be the case Ravenna Terry so perhaps you go for the bomb here and as fans saw in the fourth game of the season on the Jacksonville side they completed two not just one but two Hail Mary plays one for a touchdown at the end of the half and one that was one foot from a touchdown that would have one of these for Jacksonville they're puttin toning Bracken's in on defense plus a whole two defensive backs [Applause] a lot well let's see three six seven defensive backs [Applause] wide receivers and mega porno that's all guys [Applause] what's our [Music] [Applause] [Music] we were practicing henderson accent they ran this place and they'll never work so receiver on that side goes inside the defender thinks he's going across the middle he turns back out through Wetzel great anticipation throws the perfect pass Chris Hudson saved the touchdown but also allowed plenty of room and a injured player Simmons for Jacksonville the veteran defensive end Clyde Simmons so it'll be eight seconds no timeouts and a prime means of limping off would be surprised if he is able to play much in the second half the way he's limping Jefferson three catches for an 80 yards to lead New England one of the things I don't like about the defense number one is your only rushing three guys and when you rush three guys you give the quarterback all the time in the world you do Paul you give them all the time look up top three receivers here's John Jefferson he goes way inside and breaks it out and watch when Drew Bledsoe throws the football Jefferson going down the field inside he lets it go as the receiver is still moving across the field that is good that is really good preparation in playing and great execution [Applause] I'd Simmons injured as he tried to get to blood so leaves under his own power no the call well you know you thought you do Bill Parcells so what's the call here well first off dick the fourth down pass he always says and you know I've said this many times these type of situations your games are not for the faint of heart you got to make decisions if they don't work hey you live with it that's the way it is and right here there's no question well that who knows you got to throw the football you cannot dignity you really can be invested there again there are no timeouts he's not offended we really set and Bledsoe you know he's in a situation like this the one guy that he I think would like to throw the ball to would be Keith Byars out of the backfield fire stays in the backfield three wide receivers [Applause] and saved the sack with a second course I would have ended the half so it was a very quick move by Bledsoe and now the field goal unit comes on Jeff lock him in number 56 he's had a great year not numbers lies but play wise uses his speed jumps inside the offensive lineman cannot get him blocking might have saved a touchdown because the receiver hoods arm in the end zone finitary with what amounts to an extra point through the 10 yard line a 20-yard field goal attempt for this rookie who's had a solid year [Applause] [Music] trips with a bonus three at the end of the first half quickly move young they went 68 yards in nine plays the big pass to Jefferson to bolster their lead Bill Parcells team leaves the field ahead by ten will send you the Greg Gumbel in the NBC halftime show after a message from the NFL and a word from yo love gold station [Music] you know what it feels like that you see that rushing yards only 33 for Jacksonville total yards of both teams down from their performances through late in the season and the game score 13 to 3 as we go down to Jim Gray he said the special teams have been great he knew they would have to perform and they have said offensively we really need to get going and he left his team with these words guys we've got to apply a knockout punch here in the second half because every time this Jacksonville team has been down they've found a way to come out let's put them away brandy cross hey Jim Tom Coughlin a half-time said hey look you can't give them ten points on special teams we got to take the game to them they are taking the game to us and offensive ly we've had absolutely no continuity back up to you dick all right Jacksonville will kick it off to start the second half [Applause] thirteen two three Hamas's kick sales to make it stopped at the 23-yard line with Boselli in the in Southern California here comes the grouplet so who made the big throws late in that first half to pad the lead the 13 to 3 Clyde Simmons who was injured late in the first half his back defensively for the Jaguars governor once led the insects so three years ago with 19 when playing [Applause] and the rookie has only is second Canada another one for short yardage is a cat's in the first half was for seven yards you know Jeff flogged him to told us yesterday they didn't panic when they get behind now here's Titus Edmondson we're watching him now he's fun arms shrug and he just really does not look like he has a lot of power it's almost like he's just standing around five yard game course down and two tight ends coats and John Burke became the line just as he was going to kick for some good yardages the veteran Simmons had plenty left on that one to make a saving tackle it'll be third down and four well Clyde Simmons we've heard from the people that have to block him each week he's all about power big strong defensive Ben does a good job of going down the line of scrimmage with the blocker he sees the combine falling off the blocker they have that offensively we really need to get going and he left his team with these words guys we've got to apply a knockout punch here in the second half because every time this Jacksonville team has been down they've found a way to come out let's put it away brandy cross hey Jim Tom Coughlin and a half time said hey look you can't give them ten points on special teams we got to take the game to them they are taking the game to us and off pensively we've had absolutely no continuity back up to you dick all right Randy and Jacksonville will kick it off to start the second half [Applause] 2013 2 3 Hollister's kick sales to make it at the stopped at the 23-yard line but Jeff with Basilian Jensen in Southern California here comes the drupelet so who made the big throws late in that first half - family the 1303 Clyde Simmons who was injured late in the first half his back defensively for the Jaguars governor once loved the insects a few years ago with 19 men playing for the eagle [Applause] and the rookie as only is second Canada another one for short yardage is a cats in the first half was for seven yards you know Jeff flog him to told us yesterday they didn't panic when they get behind now here's tide Simenson we're watching him now he's fun arms shrug and he just really does not look like he has a lot of power it's almost like he's just standing around five yard game first down two tight ends coats and John Burke bookend the line just as he was going to kick for some good yardages the veteran Simmons had plenty left on that one to make a saving tackle it'll be burned down and for well Clyde Simmons we've heard from the people that have to block him each week he's all about power big strong defensive in does a good job of going down the line of scrimmage with the blocker he sees the cut bank fall off the blocker makes the tackle with a strained back we understand Simmons but will continue [Applause] [Music] [Applause] please make a drifting out into the flat man so three and out for the Patriots on their first possession of this second half they've said about logon we asked me are you down 12 in Denver last week what did you guys did you guys panic what are you saying a satellite he said always said the defense's let's get the ball back to the offense more time the more we get it to him the better chance they have a winning Wagaman the x-jet university of virginia one of the leaders one of the real veteran voices on this young Jacksonville [Music] [Applause] had his problems gets out of the way at the 35-yard line rate locus there to cover a 36-yard hot then we have a ton [Music] Chevy Blazer with the exclusive driver control system a little security in an insecure world American Express how can I help you how can I help you oh sure of course we help small businesses why don't we start with your cash please the real thing always coca-cola white Chevrolet trucks the most dependable longest lasting trucks on the road and by the new Coors Light white Bob King tap the Rockies with a smoother pour [Music] back was 60,000 fans at Foxboro Stadium and natrone means returns to the lab we'll try it here in the second half [Applause] traduction after three really [Applause] and his aim after it ins incomplete and Brunel almost said what a terrific job by Willie McGinest he doesn't go for the fakie to the top of your screen he keeps the watch says he stays outside of Mark Brunell because Derek Brown is wide open but he doesn't allow more a good job a woman [Music] and he says my job I've got to get to Brunel and force him to throw the foot [Applause] [Music] and so McGinnis [Applause] [Laughter] [Music] one to the land well McGinnis he's probably tired of hearing about Tony Fedele even though it's a big difference in size he has he has the speed that Tammy beats Caselli to the outside and gets to the core back as members of the universities and their approaches McGinnis yes ma'am two practice sessions against Miss Ellie third in town first down of a cartel grandmother named him after his birthday an actor Keenan Wynn the one thing that Kevin Gilbride has brought to this offense of Jacksonville's receivers run down the fee they read the coverage hey it's open stay right there mark Manila read the same thing throws the ball in there 13 yards in the first down at the [Applause] don't sit complete to the tight end Mitchell [Applause] catch of the Johnson and Chris Slade make the technical magnet selling in one of mcginnises or even when they were in college he didn't want to go up against facility he said you know well you're only a freshman I want to go against I want to go against it the seniors and the juniors at Harlow I want to go again Sicilians that made the flight Scranton here in this AFC Championship game is a [Music] chuckling the ball on the handoff and then barrels closer to the 40 it's near a first down matron means his hurt he's limping walking to the huddle from everything what's here he's too worried about his neck on everything else he can't even get the hand off as a coach I would take him out and put in Stuart because he was productive mainstays m10 for [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that's about as close to throwing a ball away as I've seen bill well also what's Chris late again from the outside do not let the left came the quarterback come this way and it's Jacksonville time to give that play up the quarterbacks gonna get hurt because every time they are putted so far today they hit bought personnel and it's been incomplete he's right maybe he got to start rolling a little bit to his right set of his left Slade really had a big second half of the season [Applause] of nine first time has really been able to get the full speed such as it is with a bad ankle we just looked at him when he goes up in the middle tooth fell is it that he didn't have to cut her anything it was just a direct straight run here's the handoff and here comes me inside trap is ready holy which kills me [Applause] he's out James Stewart in [Applause] very close [Music] defensive back in to get a piece of the ball carrier as Tom Coughlin's surveys the line well it looks short it's got to get on the line and and I really don't think there's much of a decision I think you're in for down territory your defense is playing extremely well go ahead you need seven you don't need three but the coughlin who was an assistant coach with a giant sundar Parcells for three years they grew up in New York between Rochester and Syracuse as a big circus fan Jim Brown was his hero as a kid he played at Sur cues and then sports holder [Applause] bring in some extra blockers I mean this shows confidence in their offensive teaming you got these guys playing play this game first of all it would be about a 43-yard 47 47 yard field goal I like to call the wind at the back let it say and that makes it really difficult to judge someone so they go board for than inches [Applause] the purity was a balloon [Applause] good the or decline for the first down on the second effort but they're not spotting it there their market is shorter than other chalk if they if they use the line judge Larry ups and number 37 on this side of the field where he was marking the ball was played on the 30-yard line [Applause] I love who now got after that second surge the continuous effort while they did let's say it again watch Mark Brunell see if he gets up to the yardage stripe well heywhat that's a pretty good mark [Applause] that was a good job of the interior defensive women the offensive lineman back in the backfield more quinella member got a chance to get going forward Parcells defense as it was last week against Pittsburgh shining in Foxborough [Music] it's the only one out there and that's why that play didn't work and the F mark was made from the far side lines and it appeared that he might have gotten the nose the ball on the that field is Curtis Martin by Eddie Robinson and Eddie Robinson number 50 who played at Houston in his first four years quite a story his dad is the supervisor coordinating events and facilities at the Louisiana Superdome so any Robinson watch they go to the Super Bowl before his dad's one of the bosses right there in the building terrific student a has six tackles [Music] to Alabama State on an academic scholarship was a chemistry [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 23 yard line by mardian whole boys had a sensational play by Hardy number 51 the linebacker I mean he gets outside we saw brewski and other guys make great plays it's almost like the same plate of brewski me the watch Hardy 51 he goes out he reads it right now and watch this play he makes he's got a main tent a comb and he does very nice already the second player selected in this year's draft of Illinois teammate Sammy my strict next [Applause] [Music] and let's Oh moves it forward to [Music] coming up Robinson who say it what happened is the ball is snapped before the sinner stands before you sheriff because no offensive lineman moves and Witsel was surprised so you can be in control he catches it well look at the Lyman Ross stay on the only guy that moves and blends oh never never know is coming and as he's going forward that must be windy fun was a good job a true but so catching the ball when he's not expecting it and he's going forward all the ball is already coming out as he's going down [Applause] or he didn't get to kissing signal and time the break we need [Applause] [Music] mark wheeler made the tackle Natron did not look injured that timing a little jumpy I made a couple good cuts and once he gets running downhill watch out you can see Rich Hill ski number 76 does a good job of blocking well Shane Manson kicked it out a good job of getting up field first down at the 24-yard line with 738 left in the third quarter Jacksonville trailing here at New England 13 to 3 and it doesn't surprise you though they fill the patience of Jacksonville I mean we just knows and then Tom time to time table we get the ball enough time so this defense gets his ball back to our office we can make some things happen well call the running game the all the games has turned her season around turnovers the penalty still school employed pay a stillness for you don't change it for months [Applause] the carries remains he's [Applause] wheeler and Pele sang a pullet le the wave tackles thinking the play Willie McGinest is playing some kind of football game Willie McGinest the tackle inside what he's doing he is just using his speed and just beatin the blockers to the punch and getting in the backfield and making the plays forget his Wheeler's financials [Applause] Callens the tackler James Stewart with running back taken a year ago in the draft behind Kijana Carter [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yeah [Applause] that matrix might have leaned offside where they pulled off very late slide [Music] Pete Mitchell the tight end and as it turns out that becomes a good penalty for Jacksonville because they were tackled for a loss on third down he meant to in a hurry to get down the field who gets that pass to get a footman wait you know dick is absolutely right because that play was going absolutely lucify guards on the [Applause] next we're walk the Excite of that entire First Coast and Lord of what a play scooter Magruder said where did he go what's Brunell yeah it really puts you in a tough position if you're deep in Sabac you don't know when he's going to finally pull the ball down is really some athletic play in a decision Hey he once said first down it's the only way you can get it so he goes over [Applause] to the 11 maybe the 10 yard line before 3 or 4 Patriots can drag him down led by John Collins you know that's got to be a really an embarrassing thing look at Brunel here this guy can run he's the best runner in pro football and at last run was just proof of it that quality he led all quarterbacks and rushing again this year as he did last nearly 400 yards and [Applause] number 75 is on the telly in America Samoa family of 12 of the 297 pounder from San Diego State [Applause] you know the one thing about that Brunel runnin is that septic belabor the point dick is when he was running with the football he knew where the first down marker was he knew where he had to go that smart football runs on this drive since the fumble recovery seven straight runs by the Jaguars [Applause] trailing leg compliment on the field goal unit not happy about it but wants to be sure the three to stay within a touchdown that's one of those plays you dump it to the back knowing he doesn't have a first down fill and you hope he could pick it up on his own [Music] Paulo stick one from 32 yards early on the side this 128 and it's a 13 to 6 game so all the points have been scored off miss juice is miss plays except for the feels all at the end of the half by New England [Music] for the seven-point lead late in the third this is Pizza Hut and vol mo number four consider this a pep talk in fact consider this a pepperoni talk same thing because this is the pepperoni all of America's talking about and why not it's meteor crispy we never had pepperoni like this before no one has weave well reinvented the thing so well the mention of pepperoni is normally the kind of thing late in the third New England with a touchdown Lee this is a memorable day a historic day in the NFL 11 years ago was do England winning at Miami that win the AFC championship remember the Patriots on their way to the Super Bowl Raymond Berenson from three straight road wins as a wild-card and 28 years ago on this day January 12 Super Bowl three Jess that the big shocker [Music] when you think about this game if you take away that early hunting mistake by Jacksonville where they gave the ball to New England at the Rome four yard line for an easy touchdown we've had two field goals aside sense well game or everybody I think the perception was is going to be offense offense and maybe early year what but what has happened late near both these teams their defenses they've become very sound and we're seeing it today let's on Bledsoe they pick it up [Music] [Applause] [Music] picks up 11 than the first watch the linebackers Rosen inside its picked up very well and what it does it creates a hollow down the field for the wide receiver [Applause] good new I buy wool evolve the center he picked off both of them excellent job New England what listen I think the old and picking up with [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I love to watch Dave make it play football I mean he's with the Giants I mean you talk about a guy they all do but I mean again it gives you a hundred percent every single time he steps on the field when he catches this ball watch what he does after it he takes a shot by McManus right here BAM but then watch what he does I got to get another yard at least out of it sit him down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] forty-three back to a mega spell you played with him was he always that upbeat he's got the big smiley effervescent personality dick I swear I've never seen in any and Paul you talk about him he's so good [Music] maybe the sharpest player I've ever played with he knows what's going on with everybody said the story couple times they called Oliver the draw little guy turns out four more yards another words he'd look at the defense in and he would call a place I'd be in the shotgun formation he'd be next to me the defense would be showing a blitz or whatever and I'd be back there choking I couldn't figure out what to do and David go black 84 Hey Ya buggy I call me throw it down the field get the completion and you know don't you say great job in a okay thing you know the worst part about though the next day in the meeting he was so embarrassed he had to tell everybody at Megan's in it he was going to take credit for that's right so the final seconds of the third quarter tick off the box / o clock it's 13 to 6 New England with the Patriots owning the ball driving here in the fourth we take this break for your local station [Music] now the journey is to New Orleans his fall phrase trying to keep a leg warm we [Applause] [Music] years ago hey kids made 13 to 6 [Applause] looking down at the Jacksonville [Applause] completed receiver Clyde Simmons applied pressure on Bledsoe what I'll tell you Curtis Martin did a great job and picking up the Blitz he just stayed right in a backfield and he just got on robinson looking you see number 20 right in front of bled so that's a great play I think the ball got tipped by Jeff Vlad and then got his hand on it just enough I made it hit VIN coats and they when the ball goes up in the air in the middle of the field you're lucky if it's not intercepted but 14 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good coverage by new Jacksonville Tony Bracken's is coming from the outside Phil Tonie practice just take a look at him he sees just making a run around he's the got it really gets close to Bledsoe and then he gets nailed and sighs but you know brackets again of course Bledsoe to step up inside and then Simmons put pressure on him so to put a punt you see that very quick getting the ball but just punches one toward the sidelines the wind is going to carry it wide and not a play inside the 20-yard line as we have a time [Music] AT&T presents a world without limits what team has led the league in scoring defense 11 times in all-time NFL record stay tuned [Music] when he get known a big NBA on NBC double-header first game Alonzo Mourning and [Music] - Jordan and the Bulls against Sir Charles fly the glide Hakeem and the raucous doubleheader starting at 12 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so classic a big Sunday night here on NBC spoils from the 14 Jacksonville 86 one yard touchdown [Applause] and sliding at the 20-yard line button at the 19 a game of four six times he's run the ball for 33 yards today Grinnell call from Gilroy picked up from Green Bay [Music] [Applause] was the second quarterback Ty Detmer [Applause] [Applause] [Music] just recently are you talking about the linebacker coming down the line of scrimmage and just following the ball carry the key to this whole thing is 159 and he keeps the ball carrier in front of him don't let the book here cut back see how he's in front and then he steps up and hits Natron means in the game at Carson to Tennessee Carson Newman fine [Applause] got his hands on it couldn't pull it down you think that's what happened about the last 10 or 15 yards sitting up above the field you could see the balls start to flutter just a little because you can see Jimmy Smith he's ahead of Otis Smith he's counting beats not able to hold on till once he hit the ground [Applause] Smith getting his chance of the full-time starter when Andre Rison was released in midseason and rice and now playing to green his life please kill this Jacksonville tea from three and seven of the thereby ricin was critical of the communications process they wanted to get sniffing [Applause] rynason going in the way his going public horse coaches and players to get together [Applause] megastar Technica 44 yard line 38 yard but no return 13 minutes and James this is dick dick is a creative super star and the man behind the advertising you're about to witness we gave dick a six-pack of Miller Lite and a blank piece of paper and asked him to create another he is brought to you by Jeep makers of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Cherokee and Wrangler buy staple the office superstore by Nike and by Miller Lite to invite you to sit back and enjoy a Miller time home of the Patriots and New England water away from the Super Bowl in a meeting Green Bay Packers but here in the second half three possessions two punts and a fumble fumble leading to Jacksonville to the flat diving catch made [Applause] then when a gain of nine as so now they're saying no can nestled a roll complete i'd say who was that inca plate is the umpire because they roll it they will a complete over on the side but the umpire in the middle of the field rules it not completely ball down on the ground what an excellent call by the umpire officials hang off on that call second intent [Applause] over the middle [Applause] the Robinson makes another defensive way for Jacksonville the yard maybe - ray Perkins the offensive coordinator well ray Perkins up there trying to get this offense and in Sinkin not tell you what they've tried everything today they've thrown screens they got all different running plays they've got it all nothing that's really working so you the offensive coordinator we just keep trying until you finally get something a team can respond to and get back in rhythm so on third down hit as he throws big third down conversions until that [Applause] Jefferson really does a good job it's inside homes his crown and then goes down and protects the football really a good job by the receiver making Washington say that he pushed off boom but Lincoln Wetzel finally get a chance to step up and throw well then to keep all he's decked up he created a little opportunity give himself about a half a second more than deliver the football so they [Applause] zeroed in on the tackle say one thing about these linebackers is an accident these guys hit you you go down there's old bouncing up we saw Robertson on one side he hit Megan he goes down then harder back on this side Keith Byars comes out watch this watch the hit watch real buyers ends up he's hit at the 39 441 and he knocks him back to the 44 that's like hitting the guard right there - he barges a big running back body is 246 pounds [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] your convention Robinson and they're close to field goal range with a seven-point lead and less than 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter well it's a good job of the Patriots it's a play-action fake one wave let's all move to the right then he looks back to the left the defense is all coming to the right expecting the path to go then away that's the reason that Curtis Martin is so wide open gods Oh Mac [Applause] the marhaban got a myth on the blood so fast there's my fight in the air that's the third pass has been knocked up in the air one was intercepted another one fell in the middle of the field and that when the Patriots caught just a good job at Jeff Locke him in he's blocked he has nowhere to go you see the quarterback getting ready throw stop and Dino try to jump up and knock it down could have been a huge flavor Jacksonville going the other [Applause] twenty twenty three hundred line by laga Minh and again we go back to Tom Coughlin's talking about him what a great year he's had for Jacksonville and really not the numbers but yet when we talked him yesterday I mean he just he loves being where he is he's going to see a fully flex the severed memory and did a Jets never happened again you got find here twice ten seconds late cost him a couple hundred for a practice ten seconds he said I was on [Applause] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] so Jackson [Music] this is having a tough time holding off the late men in but it was a definite fumble and whoever comes up with it you'll either deport them New England or first town Jacksonville and [Music] frustrating the dead man of the Jaguars Flavian Robinson made the hit on Bledsoe it's really a good job of timing again watch Eddie Robinson the Blitz coming by the Jacksonville Jaguars Dave Megan he's going to step up boom he makes the hit too much so tries to make it played in the field the big break comes when it goes off the court a day of course then goes forward which will make this a shorter field goal what a job he just did he got blocked stay where the get back termination [Applause] so given the sack on the play he said a superb game for Jacksonville Tom Coughlin's what we can only guess so Adam Vinatieri who made this Patriot team this summer as a free agent out of South Dakota State after he kicked for Amsterdam in the world and this young man from Rapid City Iowa one of the smallest shoes in football he wears a little size 8 he says we'll try to hit the sweet spot and give New England a long field goal tilt a 46 yards in a tricky wind for a 10 point lead [Applause] [Music] angle that the wind is blowing and it carried it wide and dick it was into the wind so he tried to give it that little bit extra and that's what makes it go left oh the Jaguars the Cinderella's of the American Football Conference still within a touchdown 842 remaining in Foxborough [Music] if they were American Express traveler's checks they'll be no problem right away right now you have just over two thousand Membership Rewards points maybe you'd like to speak to one about financial advice financial approximate about where you want to be when you retire wherever you are whatever you're doing American Express helps you do more if you're a novice manager you have one thing on your mind morning Linda the price of supplies my boyfriend come on relax you know you're saving money shopping in tables focus another thing Linda Linda Linda save money at staples on 7000 office supplies at the guaranteed no product state yeah [Music] [Music] Jacksonville winning its last five regular-season games to go nine and seven to get into the playoffs that have won the last [Music] playoff rally seven down at Buffalo in the fourth they were one [Applause] finally brought down by Willie clay first down you know the one thing it just seems like the receivers haven't had problems catching this ball even though it's cold well the fact that they got these sticky gloves on really helped when they've had to to get their hands on [Applause] from Jacksonville by a cat season so the New England 46 yard line maybe a yard on the play Todd Collins another tackle 26 year old Mark Brunell against 24 year old drew bledsoe and but so with the better number a deflection [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] no one picked him up and he has a worse down at the 33 carlins again the tackler when they get caught most the time when it tightening goes across the formation they go out in the flat he keep going to the right this time he stops comes back across the formation no linebacker there to pick him up [Applause] number 50 is sitting on the outside you're absolutely right waiting for him to break outside he doesn't do it Mitchell now is six catches 56 yards [Applause] in the backfield a store at the 26-yard - he was laid to have just enough engine angle the knock him down you know one thing about brute Brunel is he's staying in the pocket oh I'm eating but he's throwing quick passes Tony bacilli you could stay in the pocket when you have guys the protection like this in it come on there one hand Graham yeah yeah by the jersey with the right hand man - buried him when Tony Vasily gets his arms extended a defensive end okay has no chance [Applause] is complete and McCardle was one man from one touchdown the cartel as Brunel hit as he grows and has a cut hand well good timing by the New England Patriots Jacksonville Jaguars Tom Tom Coughlin has the same system as as a New England patients the Fletcher's come up the middle killing their boat picked up if there is pressure in the quarterbacks face becomes a and he hit [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] seven offers down in Jacksonville is 10 yards my time that's done for did they get a great block from Ben Coleman the left guard he pulled out and just cut down on the outside and opened that home means in Geneva store house this drive every member started back at the Jacksonville 37 after the missed field goal by Adam timeout [Applause] [Music] five twelve of the clock is running Tom Coughlin's young charges [Applause] [Music] through his own blocker and burrows to the six yard line and that looks good enough good first down Ned Johnson the middle backer with a tackle you know we talked to Coughlin about the Buffalo Bill game and he told you feel that he said I had a plan or I thought I could win that game then we went to Denver last week and he told you why I don't know place is it pretty good I haven't figured it out again I hope the game starts and we find a way to win and they did his quarterback has created so many good opportunities boy that's pretty common in NFL quarterback getting his hand hit they can bleed and things like that because it's a twirl in hand and you really can't protect them once it go forward he's done goal for Jacksonville tonight yes when we talked to him yesterday about this game they just need to City I know the one thing it goes back to the Denver game we cannot make any mistakes against Bill Parcells Steve may we know if they're going to try to put her on the ground our coats and what we can can pass the football and not make any major mistakes [Applause] minutes of the fourth 13 to 6 New England first and goal Jacksonville six yard line [Applause] number 97 wheeler was their first wheeler an unrestricted free and pick up from Tampa Bay was an awful good play by mark wheeler at that time they had to tighten in leading up inside they had the defensive push back it could have been a good point but on the backside mark wheeler pulses crew makes the play [Applause] [Applause] across the field you've got to see in front of the receiver Mark Brunell never looked in front of Derek Braille really clay from the backside he's going to come from the right from the backside comes across makes the interception play who led the Patriots in the regular season with four interceptions denies Jacksonville it has the most powerful gas of diesel engines of any full-size pickup it has the most available payload and tow it has the roomiest cab of all and better resale value than Ford Chevy or GMC it's the truck in the rules only from Domino's new garlic crunch crust pizza roasted garlic baked right into our classic hand tossed dough then sprinkled with parmesan crunchies all around the edge it's a delicate blend of herbs and garlic in every steaming bite call now NASCAR new garlic crunch crust or any large one topping pizza just $9.99 and get any second one topping pizza $4.99 Jacksonville driving 58 yards to the five of New England only to be intercepted to buyers Mark Brunell only a second-year as a starting quarterback his reaction tells it all the mistake of a young quarterback [Music] another thing that goes through your mind is you sit there he they gave me they put me in a position to witness for cliff at least I this football game and I gave it back to me he might have another chance so so you got to go the sideline as a quarterback remain positive think if you get hey give me one more chance I'll get it [Applause] left in this fourth quarter second [Applause] four to the 25 it'll be here down and arrived Kevin Hardy made the play and the Jacksonville will spend the time out here with 249 left they've got the two-minute timeout and two timeouts of their own left Tom Coughlin's miracle-workers from North Florida will they get another chance which pickup do you suppose has the most powerful gasoline engine the most powerful diesel the most cab room the most available towing the most available payload better resale value than Ford Chevy or GMC if you guessed our ground you hit it right on the nose Dodge Ram the rules have changed [Music] for the great taste that won't fill you up and never let you down Nicholas was like the Golden Age of small business has arrived and with it the gold corporate Optima card new from American Express it allows you to extend payments to manage your cash flow with a low introductory APR of eight point nine percent and a credit line of up to twenty thousand dollars all with no annual fee it's the perfect match for today's small businesses the gold corporate Optima card that American Express give you the power to do more [Music] tonight it's an all new third Rock looks like Dick's doing a little research and finding out what happens when the spit hits the fan the show's big with guest Mike Ditka and Wayne Knight Plus Harry as mrs. Duke chick hello special Sunday Men Behaving Badly you ready Musti comedy NBC tonight third and six defensive coordinator dick Tirana defense made his fall trying to get the [Music] [Applause] so that stops the clock 246 left Jacksonville has two timeouts and the two-minute warning and they're going to get the ball [Applause] man is that a big play that stops the clock 246 they still have two timeouts into two minute rail reality they have three timeouts remaining seven solid job with wind conditions today he has whatever Dan Hudson and knock down the three 44 yard line according to yard punt 9 on the return by Hudson Mark Brunell does get another James he gets another chance dick he has plenty of time not only that it makes your decision-making now as a quarterback it's so much easier because you have four downs now it's automatic for down situation so that changes the way you think you don't have to take those chances and run the ball you can still run golf ball on this side of the two-minute warning on the sidelines the defensive plays now bill belichick first and 58 [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] opportunist ad and a couple of touchdowns on pads interceptions with a Philadelphia Eagles and he picks up the loose ball at midfield 47 yards extra [Applause] his two minutes and 24 seconds away from a trip to New Orleans once appropriate they they make the play here that possibly could win the game form Chris Lane number 53 pulled her down oldest Smith catches it on the fly thing about this play this was a tremendous play this was a draw play but Slade is the guy that really makes a play get this arm and knock the ball out snit with the touchdown that is great defense Slade you can seem to the right because he comes gets it from behind that's what makes Dane Stewart fumble full of a game in the 80s in Denver when Jeremiah castile stripped Ernest Byner of the Cleveland Browns as the Browns were only three yards away from a possible Super Bowl champs and Denver went on to the big party just didn't expected today we know the perception was it was going to be offense offense offense and both defenses have been solid all day but New England has really been they've had it often be what did Tom confidence say to us and you think about the scores that the punter being tackled on the 4 yard line touchdown the punt return guys fumbling the ball field goal and here's another one down to 20 points bubble recovery in the air for another touchdown that's 17 out of the 20 points basically on turnover so the New England Patriots ding one field goal and two field goals today [Applause] they talked about that game let's go back to the 1987 AFC championship Bernie Kosar looked to be the heroes he rally disdain [Applause] earn a finer [Applause] [Music] so the Broncos went on till the Super Bowl as played a brilliant game Castiel the hero 2:16 left for the short game to Mitchell's any receiver in the game that's his seventh when the clock runs 2:05 204 Jacksonville won't get a playoff before the two minutes on oh there it is Bill's time Coughlin's his young team made the fight but it's no II wouldn't defense that's going to take them to the Super Bowl [Applause] KFC gazelle bringing it home in Super Bowl 17 the Washington Redskins wiped out 40 years of frustration with an old-fashioned game plan the red 276 yards Russia to capture their first World Championship since 1942 and their first ever Super Bowl title staying home for the big game pick up a super bucket now that KFC has tender roast you can mix it with extra tasty crispy and original recipe fried chicken because everybody needs a little KFC and now mix any 12 pieces just in 99 second heard about the internet the internet the internet what are you doing nice hair Solarize pictures of dead fat rock stars UFO zillion dollars with the technology and what are we doing with it here's an idea here's the internet for something useful like running a business okay alright no kids so that means no smiley face it's raw naked ear fair face capitalism [Music] you want to start with the Mallee it's a new year I got a new house I got a new team to normally go but the same old South Sir Charles are the Rockets host Michael the lipples part of an NBA on NBC doubleheader next Sunday see you all funky 22:6 New England leads Jacksonville ball at their own 36 yard line two minutes to go they have two timeouts left spend an incredible year for to take something monstrous proportions for them 20 seconds left the path [Applause] [Music] [Applause] when you get in desperate situations these kind of things happen get zipped up in the air out in the field there's too many defenders chasing after it the ball hits Jimmy Smith right in the stomach he knocks it up the air Tedy Bruschi hustling makes the plane you know you get a feeling on this thing with Smith here is he's just trying to run with it beat right before he gets it because he's looking around he never sees where the ball goes he had his eye on the ball at least you term able to see it go up in the air brueski a third-round pick of a the Patriots a tied Derrick Thomas's college record at Arizona when he sacked opponents 52 times [Applause] three and this our young Jacksonville defense let's think about this New England defense however remember the giant game the Giants led 22 to nothing at the half New England has not allowed a touchdown since that's Tim quarters without a touchdown against bears last week only one field goal two field goals allowed today well it is that's the best of difference in this football team and it really starts with the defensive front they changed up you know back then dick they change they play about six or seven defensive linemen they're bigger they're stronger it's top teams from wonderful [Applause] we want to remind you that with this crowd it's still on its feet celebrating this a hungry football audience here in New England they've had not much to Cheerilee 30-some years of this franchise 36 and the Lamar Hunt trophy awarded Catherines champion it will be presented at midfield it'll be a chance for all these fans many of whom stayed here through the very lean years and are here to celebrate with us who came on to cheer winners as late comers [Music] and then of course then our Sunday night broke that includes third Rock from the Sun [Music] take God knows now Tommy I'm doing research I'm finding out what happens when it's business the ban [Music] it's Mike Ditka [Music] [Applause] 1:36 left thanks [Music] longtime associates producer director John Gonzalez Tommy Roy our executive producer Dick Ebersol president of Sneiderman a statistician this bill parcells who has a real sense of history knows what could happen he could separate himself from the pack of coaching elite the only man to take two different teams to the Super Bowl Batman Don Shula didn't win with the Baltimore Colts he lost Super Bowl three he did win later in Miami with his unbeaten team won twice Bill Parcells two-time winner with the Jonathan even muster a smile out of then there before he's probably already thinking about the Super Bowl two weeks from now I wouldn't doubt that and he has told his team [Applause] know how to prepare for it I'll teach you you don't seem to him table neither's his Coulter's is out to get still heights water of my head how much of a good sport can you be 14 degree windchill Marton to the 21 yard line with 24 123 in the clock running now Green Bay a winner today impressively 30 13 over at Carolina the two expansion teams eliminated in the championship game here's how the Patriots matchup with Green Bay Green Bay's number one defense against the seventh ranked offense the Green Bay number five offense 19th ranked defense of New England the Oilers that mislead it's exchange that's right dude this isn't the 19th ranked defense we've seen the last 3-4 weeks in New England pass offense one against three for Green Bay and they don't be a team in the league in terms of points scores of Tigers against New England 14th but again it's a different Patriot team that really came together month of the season and here in the blue and out the seven seconds remaining as Drew Bledsoe didn't have to do much and when you think back the big plays of the game Jacksonville they couldn't get off had to eat it at their own floor two plays later Curtis Martin scored a touchdown and then the deflected interception by Otis mahir's the play Barker leaping told he couldn't get it away and then was tackled by Larry Wickham that the four yard line two plays it took before Martin scored the touchdown and that seemed to be the difference in the game until very late when Otis Smith off the carom went 47 yards with the interception to seal the win dick can you take a look at this game in a team that what I'm telling you right now this would get us in Parcells and that guy played one great game the deal was gonna say is the defense is one in this football game for the Patriots it was not the offensive did it Jacksonville takes over on there New England sends everyone deep [Music] underneath and struggling out of mr. Jimmy Smith with a catch at the 34-yard lines but it has been an exciting healthy year for the NFL two new teams stars on Carolina stars on Jacksonville that will look forward to staying next year a coach Tom Coughlin who how can you not admire what he's accomplished well everything he believes in he took down to Jacksonville and what he believes in structure discipline it's what the NFL they got to the championship game and go now their young leader [Applause] pounds and southern rock running and also New England dick four years ago complete disarray they get it together in four years and to get to the Super Bowl fighting to the very end Grinnell downs the ball to give himself at least one more play remember that New England had earned the right for the first player picked in the draft because they went only two games four years ago that's when they hired the tuna Parcells and he took drew bledsoe and it has proved out to be a great pick - Bledsoe a young quarterback has really been formed it in four years a lot of throws a lot of experience plays handle it real well and then the question still rests here in New England regardless of what happens in the Super Bowl will Batman Bill Parcells feedback as coach there are heavy rumors that it will be a penalty five more full start against Jacksonville the last seven games of the season - in the playoffs New England has allowed an average of ten point four points the game so it's a solid defense it'll go to the Superdome in New Orleans against Green Bay even against the Green Bay offense and Brent flower back there throwing it around so their defense will have to have us hey they don't have to have a super game to keep Green Bay from not scoring over 20 points because they prolific offense one of the things that I really like about we talked to Parcells about Joplin final thoughts about him as he said I knew that this young man would be successful [Music] [Applause] conference championship yeah from Jacksonville with Parcells told his team earlier this week just get me there I'll show you how to win it New England will presenting with the opportunity in New Orleans two weeks from today the AFC champions are the New England Patriots let's go to Greg Gumbel Dick Enberg thank you very much I'm down here on the field with what is the equivalent of AFC royalty the rulers of the American Football Conference and that would be the New England Patriots to the AFC Champions goes the Lamar Hunt trophy and to make that presentation Neal Austria and the president of the NFL Neal first I just like to thank the Jacksonville organization their football team their organization their fans they had a great year on behalf of the National Football League I'd like to present to Bob Kraft and his family Bill Parcells the Lamar Hunt trophy emblematic of supremacy in the AFC our congratulations to you in the entire organ for a guy who's been a season ticket holder since 1972 this has to be an awfully nice moment Bobby this is for all the fans out here away the 37 years thank you thank you you made it happen we've been fans together I also want to say something about Wayne Weaver who's a great owner and I know he'll be here one day himself and to our players who've given great energy dedication and to the greatest coach in the history of the game in modern times [Applause] that's quite an accolade coach the greatest history our greatest coach in the history of the game you do with this victory become only the second man along with Don Shula to take two different franchises to the Super Bowl are your thoughts on that accomplishment well I'm just very thankful for the opportunity to be here and with these players that have just given me everything I've asked for throughout the year and I knew if they played like they have shown me all throughout the year that we had a chance I do want to mention one guy that's that's not with us today he was operated on on Friday say yes [Applause] this is a freak old day in New England but things that these players haven't seen before did it affect the way you approach this game at all well we thought the game would be a little help of Skeletor we hope we could get an edge on special teams we did do that with the early turnover and it really helped and you know I have to cut Jacksonville their defense played well we didn't really play as well offensively as I know we can but hopefully we got a couple weeks to get better and in those couple of weeks you have the Green Bay Packers on your docket your preliminary thoughts on those from having watched them through the season well I haven't seen much though we played in the first game in pre-season and I know they're a very good team they wouldn't have done what they accomplished throughout the year without good quality people they got a great coaching Mike Holmgren and a great GM and Ron wolf so we'll see what we can do as you're fond of saying you're on your way to the show congratulations the show that's right let's go back to the Ken Berg this man is the coach Bill Parcells to Super Bowl championship sit with the Giants then he takes the challenge of a team down only to wins the year before in four years four years he's built them into the AFC Champions and a team that just seems to be getting better under his leadership Jim Gray today Willie clay and Otis Smith Otis tell us about the big fumble put the game out of reach well I was coming up to make the tackle or one of my guys hit him the ball pops out and I'll scoop in his Ford glory be to God you know I've been praying for it and you know I came to me today would you have ever imagined that you would have helped this team to two field goals based on what they have done they scored 30 points against Buffalo and 30 points against Denver but they'll have followed offense and you know we just have to be be poised and be patient and no not making the middle hours in you know we did that throughout the game and you know the play started coming for us in the fourth quarter were you frightened there in the last two minutes the Baywood going down the field and tie this game up and send it an overtime well you know keep throwing and keep pushing it down soonerlater son was my hat positive cause you know we just kept playing hard and you know women stepped in front of one that was one of the best players I've seen all year honest congratulations big play clay that's what they call you how about the interception down there on Bernal and a 5 yard line man was just it was a big play actually I may notice that a doubling on 82 and I look back to seeing the quarterback cheat to our side I just stepped in front I don't know the receiver was I mean it just it feels so good you know and I just like to thank the Lord for all the time he's giving me enough flex every hide everyone back in Pittsburgh congratulations we look forward to seeing in the Superbowl see you in New Orleans all right let's send it back now over to Randy cross thanks Jim here with Drew Bledsoe true you know artistically maybe not the best but you're going to the big one the big game you are our defense carried the day our fans were great they were loud and you know now we get a shot of the championship so we're very happy about that just personally is all this sunk in this fantastic scene and you're going to the Super Bowl if you're really starting to think about that yeah as it sucked in yeah you know we got two weeks to think about it we got a couple days to enjoy it then it's back to work trying to give a parent see we're gonna win us a championship but we're very happy right now we're gonna enjoy this can you say enough about the job your defense has done over the last six weeks last six weeks today was a perfect example offensively we didn't play well our defense carried today and won the ball game for us we put them with their backs to the wall a few times and some turnovers they held Jacksonville great office two field goals and won the game for us thank you congratulations you're champion back up to you dick all right Randy it was 11 years ago the Patriots as the wild-card team won three on the road Super Bowl 20 also in New Orleans and Mike Ditka's Bears beat them 46 to 10 they get a chance to bring a Super Bowl championship back to New England and to Boston as they'll make the Green Bay Packers much more of the interesting to hear the comments from Jacksonville they certainly made it a game down to the couple last couple of minutes and before the clay interception look as if we might have a possible overtime as well hearing from the victorious New England Patriots more coming to you from Foxborough where the Patriots have prevailed 22 6 first these score in the AFC Championship game the New England Patriots defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 20 to 6 welcome back everyone Greg Gumbel Ahmad Rashad Joe Gibbs like this too before we get started this reminder coming up right after our postgame show the Lana tonight on NBC is Dateline followed by third Rock from the Sun featuring Mike Ditka and then behaving badly and the world from their movie ed McBaine 87th precinct keep waiting so we have a New England Patriots victory I'll let you guys talk about it because I gotta tell you he almost killed our leader that climbed back up the stairs you know what was really great early in this football game really the fans were great I just you know we could talk about what happened I want to congratulate Bill Parcells and his staff for a great job what they did defensively to shut down this offense is to be commended I also want to congratulate Tom Coughlin his staff for the job they did all you this is two great organizations both organizations be very proud and I know those New England fans they were great when they're down in New Orleans in 1986 I'll get to you there will be a lot worse than 1997 because they have a chance at this one not just the New England defense today but how about the turnaround that they've made over the last six or seven games and I believe this is ten straight quarters now without allowing it touchdown well I like the I think we all talked about outgrowing his entire staff I think they've done a great job and I think their defense carried the day for him I'd like to echo what Mike said in order to really grasp what hack happened here you need to hear this crowd that blue wave out there that the crowd was every part of it they did their part it seems as though the young teams in the last in these two games for Carolina Jacksonville whilst the turnover battle now you don't know for what reason I think the crowds had a lot to do like the weather had a lot to do with it and I think inexperience had a lot to do with it I was very impressed with the Jacksonville Jaguars I mean this is the group that came a long way they played hard throughout the playoffs in and they really are they're they gonna be around for a long time yeah and it they get down there you know they don't throw the interception who's the same when we go into overtime it could be a different situation but you know things happen too for reason and I think the reason is how good and hop coordinated the hatred defense was those guys really did an outstanding job and you know the thing that bothered me we said make one adjustment that happened Brunell roll to your right one time he never wrote to ready they had the roll to the level that we're going to be going to New England locker room in just a few moments right now they're in the midst of their team prayer you know the task has been passed to this New England Patriots team now to crack a 12-game winning streak by the NFC and they're going to need the kind of defense that they've been playing with you know the key when you win the FC chance of game you know my both you guys know it's a whole new game you get to the Super Bowl this you have to restart and get yourself together and play another game but if there's anybody in football they could prepare these guys for Super Bowl it's Bill Parcells let me tell you right now and he's been there he's one there he knows exactly what has to be done he will not let these guys get off track he'll keep mine track and they'll be focused for this football game you know one of the things that that bill parcells as you said is a master of his preparation I don't know that you want to take any team up against them when he's had two weeks to prepare well I tell you what you got a big two weeks for the Great Bay Packers good they look like a high-powered machine believe me all right we'll take a timeout here when we come back we'll hear from some of the way New England Patriots they're about to open the locker room we'll be there when they do stay tuned [Music] 1874 the first transatlantic cable connecting Ireland and America it was made by Siemens that was then more Trend Truck of the Year billboard [Music] the New England Patriots victorious happiest can be down on the field welcome back to chilly Foxborough everyone where New England has earned a berth opposite the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl 31 with a 22-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and we'll be getting down to the New England locker room shortly we've been talking about this Patriot defense we just had such a terrific turnaround the last six or seven games why I'm like you know I went back to the Cowboys game and I watched him against the Cowboys on the Cowboys got that big dominant overpower for life and what they did is they started they didn't take the guy straight on they jumped around blocks they did the same thing against the Steelers they were coordinated when they were filling gaps so that's what they did they took gap control and by taking gap control they shut down the running game and their pass rush where they picked up in the last couple weeks I think the key matchup to we all talked about Brunel what kind of a job they could do against him and I really think in this game they gave him a great mix they gave him some zone they gave a lot of blitz and came after him and actually when you think about this guy last time he threw for over 400 yards against them today he had 190 yards and two interceptions so I I think the match up there that we all talked about I think they did the job and and they did a great coaching job today I guess for now all right Joe we will get down to the New England Patriots shortly but right now Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin is with our will McDonough will thanks Greg Tony said you had something you wanted to say well I'm very proud of our football team it's been a good run for us we've played well in the playoffs I want to congratulate the New England Patriots and Bill Parcells and wish them the best in the Super Bowl their defense was excellent today it seemed like they made all the big plays our defense was excellent our defense was pretty darn good too if we're not in a hole by kicking game errors in the first half it might be a three to three ball game so now they played very well but that our defense wasn't shabby either yeah what were some of the critical plays in the game as far as you concerned get things that turn the game one way the other the things that have have not plagued us we've been in control of ourselves in terms of turnovers for the last six or seven ballgames we turn the ball over today whenever you turn the ball over you're not gonna win and we made two mistakes in the kicking game in the first half and we had two turnovers in the second half both of which could have given us an opportunity tie it up we're looking to going overtime we feel like we're gonna put it in overtime yeah Tom thanks very much had a great year thanks for coming off let's go now to the page Lock room with Chris Collinsworth and Kurtis Ponton Chris and I will thanks very much and Kurtis first of all congratulations you're going to the Super Bowl yeah well this is something long waited it's fulfilling a lot of our dreams this is a lot of us been waiting for this and uh through a lot of hard work a lot of prayers a lot of commitment to the team the coaches did a great job all season all the players did a great job and the defense did a wonderful job today to help us win this game you know Curtis it really has been the defense down the stretch everybody talks about the offense on this football team but defensively this team really took over down the stretch and in the playoffs now an incredible effort yeah well a lot of people look at us as the offensive team but what they don't realize is that our defense have been playing very well or defense have been making a play they've been keeping us in the game and I just I commend them on the job they did today how surprised were you that you were able to get that early touchdown after the botched punt you get the ball right down there early in end zone just seemed to take all the pressure off this football thing yeah well it always helps to get up that early or in a game like this and you know this is the worst can is playing the way we all feel we're all here we're just so thankful we're grateful we just saw that we're blessed team that we thank God for this victory how about this big guy standing over here you're right Bruce Armstrong Bruce congratulations I know for you this has to be the sweetest of all victories you've been here through the good in the bad and now to get a chance to go in the Super Bowl and take on the Green Bay Packers you're right I mean maybe everything that you come little kids all the way up till now professional level you work you fight just to get a chance to be a be a Carla champion we still have a chance and we still have one more game to go but there's only two teams left and we wanted to sue that it feels great can you even put into words what it was like to be a part of those two and 14 1 in 15 Patriot teams and then now sit here have your arm around Curtis Martin to talk about going to the Super Bowl and playing for it all right I could but it would take so it would take too long we got that kind of time but the only thing I know is that if we can get to the Super Bowl and we can win it all everything I've ever gone through would be worth it well we've got William Roberts over here and William former giant we've been under Bill Parcells you've been a part of championships before but this one has to be just this week it is resilient I'm from is my 13th year you know for me to still get into the mix and it feels great you know I told the guys on Bill's one of those coaches that you know you get him down you know and let's do the rest and we're gonna get it done now you go in you play against the Green Bay Packers you played in the NFC a long time you're a fan of football you've been watching this team they've been spectacular both offensively and defensively assess this team's chances down at Super Bowl well Green Bay is a real real good team oh it's gonna be a great game you know I'm not making new promise or predictions but you know we just got to go out and play a good game and you know hopefully best team win cuz Bill Parcells has changed any since his days with the Giants oh you lost William congratulations now let's go back upstairs the Greg Gumbel all right Chris thank you is obviously a very emotional Curtis Martin down there I'm out I wanted to ask you when you were on the verge of going to a Super Bowl can you identify with how he's feeling I can but I think the thing that he has to be careful of this is a one quick celebration this isn't the end of the road and in the National Football League there is only one winner yeah I don't know when you lose a Super Bowl you know everybody's second there's only one winner so they can't lose sight of what the real goal is and that is the win the Super Bowl killjoy take a timeout and continue on the postgame show in just a moment Oh [Music] [Music] [Music] even though Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is more sophisticated more refined and more luxurious than ever you can be sure that underneath it all
