so do you like Minnesota then I like San Francisco they call me a grumpy old man are you ready for some football or full law what's football hmm the San Francisco 49ers began this year as the defending Super Bowl champions and right from the opening break they began chalking up the victories three in a row to start the season but then their bulletproof image began to take some hits when they started dropping game the teams with losing records the 49ers suffered to a series of uncharacteristic miscues that resulted in four losses in the next six games a stretch that dropped them from atop the Division standings and left him squarely behind the eight ball yet justman San Francisco appeared to be losing its winning touch the masterstroke returned in a November showdown with Dallas in a brilliant performance by the 49ers the Cowboys were sent and San Francisco went on to clinch the NFC Western Division title one more Super Bowls at any team in NFL history and this year's team has regained that imposing image of a course that can produce another championship on cue from quarterback Steve Young I think more than any other season we have history on our side we have like people called mystique I really think the speakers made out of hard work you know dedication integrity of all these words that make up the steep that when things are down are you behind the eight-ball somehow someway if you're in a 49er uniform guys have done it before we'll do it again supporting on a Super Bowl trophy for the sixth time in franchise by Minnesota Vikings and the poor for ABC's Monday Night Football Wow invade San Francisco Bay [Music] the vaccines and Niners get it on tonight [Music] Maddi friends about for money now Thank You swanee here go the 49ers kicking off as Jeff will is not the way Eric Davis got a hand the reason he'll be going to the four ball he's had a terrific year David Palmer the intended receiver third down three members of that 49ers secondary will be going to the Pro Bowl Larry Davis making his first one many thought he should have gone last year 10 McDonald will be going number 46 again but three times from Arizona before he came over here in 93 Merton Hanks is going to go and look at the tight coverage number 25 Eric Davis he'll find cover man Tedric pods number 33 became in there I watched both I'm surprised that one did bring a [Music] and the pass is incomplete there was contact watch des pulp and Chris Carter got together they are joy no flag and the Vikings are throwing it out in their first series and Dennis greens team to punt this Carter slippin on this field - it's a little treacherous down there and has been it's been very wet out here in the Bay Area good positioning by Pope ooh also went down the sumo wrestling their them back fed by Steve missing five games because of the shoulder injury in the middle of the year elvis grbac took over and the last time we saw grbac he was leading the Niners to a big win in my so last year's Super Bowl MVP gives it to Garrett a sweep to the short side of the field and an animal digging up to the 39 Jeff Brady taking the spot of the injured Jack Del Rio with the tackle Cipolla oats Milstead and barton upfront bardos going with the Pro Bowlers in the welcome it second anime divulged emotion finding tangler who juggles the ball possession and then gets pushed all the way back and forward progress is up to the 39 yard line setting up a third down and eight at time the 49ers coming with the three wide receivers but Brent Jones works as a move man in that three wide receiver set and he basically gives them four men who can take the ball deep downfield one of the better tight end receivers in this game as you see Taylor short of the first down he almost lost the football very heads-up his hands back on it Thomas jarred it loose and it goes and it's picked off by Orlando Thomas who leads the league the rookie from southwestern Louisiana has just intercepted his ninth pass of the season and he also has three fumble recoveries the twelfth takeaway for the rookie and a rare poorly thrown ball by Steve Young dan that was overthrown and Thomas was there he played center field about as good as any rookie I've seen come into this league but this ball just flat over thrown [Music] [Applause] to agree with you that it's an overthrown ball by Steve Young but in reality I think Young was throwing to a spot that John Taylor just can't get there on that break he's extreme watch him right here grab his right hip it's been bothering him and I think that's a case where Steve Young through to a spot John Taylor physically not able to get there and you see him right now he's leaving the field walking around trying to get Lucy's on his way in for presumably an x-ray and so obviously we'll see a lot more at JJ Stoke but I think I was born Te'o [Music] this is Scottie Graham taking the handle off and stop at the line of scrimmage by the venerable Ricky Jackson at the age of 37 now in his 15th year played at Pittsburgh and for many years with the New Orleans Saints he's found the Fountain of Youth again seven and a half sacks for Jackson with his entire defense has been brutal against the run you have to try to run a little bit to slow down the pass rush but nobody has been able to run second intent moon slips on the soggy turf and the pass is incomplete this mile never had control of it and it will be third down marques cope covering on the play and you on that one talk about sitting on a pattern that one had no shot third and 11 two minutes and 40 seconds into the game with no store I am seeking his first completion and still doesn't have it as he was knocked out of the arms of Jake Reed by Dedrick Dodd but it's a swarming secondary and the end touched on earlier this is a team that they play better and they talk in an ear one piece most teams talk better and they play but they are coming in here was such a swagger tonight they know they are good three of the minute members of the secondary going to the Pro Bowl in seven members from this defensive unit they are just playing so well on defense so the interception by young doesn't hurt the 49ers as the Vikings can't capitalize Saxons kick - is cold for but fire can't get there and then it is covered up back of the 15 yard line by Merton Hanks because it deflected off Barker and was a live football so the alert Hanks is there to cover up Niners take over Depot floor to go opening quarter JJ Stokes is in the game their number one draft choice of UCLA the looking taking the spot of John Taylor who's back in the locker room young pass is too low and blocked by Lavelle so we have not had a completed pass in the game between the two catches the football he is a big man 64 217 pounds but he has shown great skill and running with the football after he catches him there's a path to Wayne Washington to you he'll agree with that first and goal out of a two back set Lavelle goes absolutely nowhere running into the middle of that Viking lines only to the ball carrier to the receiver must make contact if you don't bring him down you at least have to slow him down 11th play of the drive Lavelle splits left as a receiver charging those two on 2nd and goal they make it to walk the pressure off and Thomas who gets him from behind and buries him at the 8 yard line Roderick Thomas stopping them at the line of scrimmage third and goal and Tom Thomas saved a six pointer well Frank I know one thing the second time this Drive din that you've gotta catch it for you run with it when it's everything you could hope for to the Blitz right up the middle of the field and you're able to get the ball past the Blitz past that first wave to the running back that that could have been a very big play for the Vikings if Lee doesn't drop the ball it's it's everything you look for look at that the safety width by McDonald but he just took his eyes off it in there that could have been a 20 or 30 yard play if they just get the one block 13 at the 26 good protection in the passage short of the first time by about four yards sample by Merton don't believe so because I recall Joey Galloway earlier this season in a seattle giant matchup in fact it was November 5th took a punt at his 11 yard line and as I recall rambled an amble down the right sideline avoiding tacklers and he went in for an 89 yard score look at that rookie go boy do we have I can't believe I mentioned it and you guys got it up at it quickly okay we have no faults green and the Vikings just talked about all week cannot fall behind on the road against a team as talented as the 49ers in a pressure situation and more good news for the 40 John Taylor - strumming six I'm not sure I've seen a biking receiver any further than about it you know maybe a yard or two from from a 49er defensive back this is almost the case as if the 49ers are inside the Viking huddle and getting the pass plays they are smothering this passing game of the vise I think that big receivers in Jake Reed and Kris part in the outside that they do not have great speed and this is a very quick second day they will play harder and read very tight when they have all just look at this RV 49er within ten yards of the line and the secondary does its job and the pass is flown into traffic hip this is as swarming a defensive effort so far in this quarter that I've seen any team put on just about all season long the long has five 49ers lining up to put a tattoo on him there's Burton young went down and the key game is going down at beating Dallas convincingly in Dallas and then going on to beating Miami and did he Steve Young back getting really healthy last week 340 yards last week 31 to 45 Steve Young is back in the 49ers are with him [Applause] it's parter and he has a first down as he run out of bounds up at the 26 yard line by marques Pope and that's their first real first down of the ballgame that reception by Carter and they could not have come at a better time for Minnesota who started back inside their own 5-yard line so good pass protection a good rollout and
