[Music] Joe Robbie Stadium in South Florida the Raiders two and three Miami four and two sold out 75,000 fans on a windy but comfortable for this time of the year this part of the country 80 degree day hello everyone Dick Enberg with Bob Trumpy the Miami Dolphins home disappointed from a great opportunity in Buffalo they were unable to beat the bills thought they should have a sobering defeat Dan Marino and off they said he thinks he's home and it'll be much better today the Raiders on the other hand they bring in that four by 100 relay team that track team it's been written about certainly we talked about it there is no question that the Raiders wide receivers have that all-out speed but when you look at their numbers something doesn't compute dick alright let's look at these sprinters Alex had to write twice the NFL's fastest man four catches no factor james jet has an Olympic gold medal five catches no factor the rocket is mile 14 catches somewhat of a factor but Tim Brown who is the slowest of the floor as he was last year he is the anchorman in the passing game and dick I think what this tells you is that you can have speed but you have to use it properly in football sense and the first three guys they use the speed but they can't go into and out of the break precisely so Tim Brown is the guy that Hostetler relies on the most because he runs the accurate batter so how does Miami beat the Raiders two very specific things one the front seven of the Miami Dolphins must be able to stop the run if the front seven can stop the run then the Miami defense can go at the zone keep the safeties deep which basically neutralizes all of the speed of the greater receivers and the Raiders should they be able to run they figure if they could run say for a hundred yards then it will be their day Don Shula is great record in Miami continues last week Marv levy who has the best record against Shula of any of the coaches he's ever faced was able to beat Shula again and now he faces the team that has given him the most trouble the Los Angeles Raiders 11 and 5 they have defeated Shula coached Miami teams while David Shula is son is 2a no against the Raiders that must be something they chat about during the offseason yeah son how do you beat the Raiders Don asks hardshell some would say the greatest left tackle in the history of the game and you'll be watching the man that many feel is the best left tackle in football today Richmond web of the Miami Dolphins who protects [Applause] dan Marino so carefully Marino has been sacked only once in the last four games great is one that sauce they receive [Applause] beats Donovan's to kick it off with rocket Ismail and Alexander right two of those sprinters a deep for the silver and black there's the rocket from Notre Dame Alexander right with him not smiling now but he was yesterday when we talked with him this team upset Florida and story out of its puts it in quiet [Applause] a sailor taken by [Applause] the 33-yard line a 22-yard return and here come the Los Angeles Raiders and the Hoss Jeff Hostetler was a third-round pick of the giants back in 84 Perry the all-pro was risky the veteran most bar the big guard gokhan from Dallas and Wilkerson the offensive front ty Montgomery starts we'll see more of Harvey Williams rattle in the X 49er the blocker and receiver Brown and [Music] [Applause] [Applause] eleven maybe even twelve yards by the full-back Rothman who has been used sparingly all season Jeff cross the rookie the giant rookie Tim bones chuckling vile and Marko Coleman the front floor for the dolphins with singleton Cox and other rookie Aubrey Beavers at backer fry Vinson and JB brown the corners and Michael Stewart from the rammstein Atkins the ex ain't at safety Frankie Smith is the extra back in the Miami nickel fourteen yards for Eggman of stayed in bounds until the 46 yard line [Music] doesn't miss many of those Brian Cox was right there dick last week does Miami defense one of the things they emphasized was to stop the run well they did in the first half against Buffalo but Thurman Thomas ended up with a hundred and 25 yards rushing and that was absolutely the key to the Buffalo Bills victory raiders watch that film gentlemen we can run the football more than 200 yards rushing [Applause] memory slicing the almost three Tim poems the rookie from Mississippi number one pick of the Dolphins made the stop he's down from 335 pounds he told us yesterday what 311 330 13 and Joe Greene of all people calls this kid a thoroughbred no telling what this kid might turn out to be as a defensive about the same way for the Raiders quickness and hello [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that was a message throw by Jeff Hostetler coach Tim Brown was open over the middle and would have picked up the first down yardage that's one of the things the Raiders try to do they threaten you at the speed this mile does an excellent job of running the pattern on top of Frankie Smith but if he wanted the drive to stay alive Tim Brown was open and should have gotten the ball that's a very low percentage completion to try to make but again it's the message we will go deep Oh Jay McDuffie and Scott Miller are deep and he and that one got a bounce at about the 18 yard line he won't be happy with that 132 yards and our first timeout Dan Marino gets ready to work the wind in Buffalo last week seemed to bother him and it's windy today here in South Florida and Hannah Storm with a report it's uncharacteristically windy deck hair and a Joe Robbie Stadium at bat kicker Pete story on average told me it's even windier than Buffalo a game in which the dolphins were second-guessed for throwing into the wind and not running the ball more I asked anshel about the wind today and in a rather tongue-in-cheek comment he told me if this keeps up he's going to run the ball on every down by the way the Raiders were able to practice here yesterday to apostille who's never played in Joe Robin he said it really helped him determine how the wind is going to be a factor here it's coming across the top of the stadium now for back in the other direction [Applause] first play by Moreno when not affecting that past firmly unable to pull it in McLaughlin and ball two huge defensive tackles for the Raiders pressuring Moreno at first play just the screen at that's to compensate for the wind they don't want to try anything down the peel just trying to throw short hair get a little feel for just how windy it is engine RS [Applause] with a good opening is out to the 26-yard line it'll be third down and three here are the Dolphins offensively the Pro Bowlers on the left side Webb and Sims Delhomme back the center gray his first NFL start entry to Burt Widener and Ron Heller the veteran at right tackle Moreno has buyers who is looking for hundred and tenth consecutive game catching a ball Parmalee you've just seen fryer and Ingram outside the old pro Keith Jackson is the tight end in the free Y dou J McGuffey jumps in [Applause] [Music] that's good enough for a first down James trap number 37 with you can see what the Raiders are doing already here the Dolphins are so gifted in this third down package they went with a six defensive back set and Marino finds McDuffie just hooking up underneath James trap this is maybe the best part of Miami's game and has been for years this third down package remember how often we saw Tony not backfield making that third down Patsey off of Jim Jensen Jim King Jim kick to play at Ball State was undrafted and he had a big game last week at Buffalo 91 yards picks up a sizable count on first down against this defense Harrison moves outside the former lion and brown ball and McLaughlin huge inside Anthony Smith the top pass rusher for Los Angeles Fredrickson the top pick out of Michigan State as a starter now beaker Dan Moss the other backers McDaniels been brilliant he has three defensive touchdowns Albert Lewis not many better Hoskins and Anderson are the hitters at safety Lynelle Washington comes in Loretta's the extra defensive [Applause] and he struggles close and why Aaron Wallace makes the tackle for years this Miami dog with dolphins offense has suffered from a lack of running game mark hits Higgs at two seasons when he rushed for over 900 yards but they've never really been able to rely totally on that running in with Parmelee who last year had a grand total of just four carries it was basically a special teamer there's Higgs on the sidelines primarily now has emerged as the running back with the injury to Terry Kirby that they can rely on and that's something at first now normally gets across the 45 yard line a gain of nearly 4 Chester bladed Clemson makes the stop that's 21 yards now for pharma Lee and dick this is a drive that's designed into the wind throw short broke concise don't take chances like they did last week run the ball establish a lot of things here early for Miami well two weeks ago we saw Chicago use that philosophy to beat Buffalo last week we saw Buffalo employ that technique and beating Miami and now Joe says maybe it's my turn [Music] [Applause] to the ball Nolan Harrison [Applause] Moreno didn't see him and it appeared Chester McLaughlin and jury ball one of those two came up with the ball unless Heller at the last minute wrestled it away underneath the file Moreno is coming off the field it's it's raiders baltic harrison on the outside pass rush you see Harrison right here he gets around Richmond Webb the Pro Bowler just throws him out of the way knocks the ball out of Marino's hand raiders ball at the 42 of Miami and a magnificent weekend and a nice start for nolan Harrison is strips Moreno beating Richmond Webb in the process and the Raiders have it at the 41 Jerry ball recovered the fumble and Hostetler he's down to the 37 of the couple for Richmond and Webb who was allowed now only two sacks all season long in protecting Marino and Harrison beat him quickly threw him right out of the way Harrison just his second sack of the season and the results on the turnover Harrison who started the year playing inside at a defensive tackle position rude way defensive end last week [Music] [Applause] were all fire goodbye Gina [Applause] but the intersection probably wouldn't have counted the Dolphins leaned into the neutral zone Marko Coleman at defensive right end seemed to be the culprit McElwee is our referee today number 90 defense five yards second down Don Shula's team penalized twelve times last week on Miami record yeah he said when we talked to him yesterday said about half of them really hurt I mean really hurt said it's not like my football team and starts again to all the defensive lineman has to do is watch the football one over second and one at the 20 and he's inside the 50 Karrie produces a big energy napkins made the stop 18 yards and that's the longest run by a Raider running back all season the tight end Glover comes up through the line of scrimmage and Wham's on the linebacker beavers 53 nobody there to make the tackle what that has to feel good for Harvey Williams because his memories Joe Robbie Stadium from the [Applause] drives for a couple Cox and Singletary and cling bail all therefore the stop RV William - a year ago playing in the uniform of the Kansas City Chiefs was crushed on a tackle by Brian Cox knocked out and for precautionary reasons taken to the hospital by helicopter so he said I want to get back here and do something positive so I can erase those memories I was no question about that [Applause] [Music] [Music] a saving tackle dick Raiders had the corner captured and if Stuart doesn't get a whole opening shoulder pads of time Montgomery he goes in where his new skete 26 out in front well there's a nice alley there for all [Applause] getting inside the twin good protection for Hostetler and he has a first down at the Miami 3 yard line gee napkins and Frankie Smith made the stop excellent protection for Hostetler to search out an open man this is just a little delay pattern by Tim Brown I'm surprised Miami's running a zone down there in the goal line Frankie Smith is the man who makes the tackle but kind of surprised you see his zone down there because the in line neutralizes the book the speed of the greater receivers opening drive we'll confusion here however throws it away JB Brown was there I see that Raiders have had trouble in here for a number of reasons one this is not a great run blocking offensive line that had trouble running the ball and the defense does not have to practice protect yard it's behind him there's only 13 yards where the ball is to the in line so suddenly it gets very crowded for the Raiders offense to capitalize [Applause] joins [Applause] [Music] Gosselaar a great scrambler by gene Atkins but how many quarterbacks do you see what play pool back at the goal line like Jeff Hostetler does nobody open looks like Jeff cross set 91 does get in here and makes him flush out of the POC a little bit but then Hostetler turns fullback courted as a sack for Atkins third and goal at the floor [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Sal has already sent the funeral team out on the field cost ever last year led the Raiders and rushing touchdowns that gives down on a knee that's out tough that Hostetler is safety hits me man I put him out of the game again no one to throw to decent protection to the play previous where they pin cross inside and Hostetler tries to get in or that's quite a collision Atkins denying that's a Ken Euston tackler the goal line but you hope your Raider fan you don't want to see your quarterback in that kind of Jeopardy Hostetler sack fifty times last year has taken multiple hits in the backfield and now he's exposing himself to with injuries and hits like that which men web the defense perhaps unless this is a fake only going to cost the Dolphins three points for his missed block as Atkins has helped off and walls inside the one but shell wants to come away with points on this turnover and shaker this is shorter than an extra point and he punches a throw Nolan Harrison's sack fumbled the Daily Double gives the Raiders a short field goal and the lead Raiders on a 19 yard jeager field goal have the early lead three nothing just under five minutes to go in the open Irving spikes it's to McDuffie side by contact and then crawls across the 20-yard line other Raiders who have not had many long runs the last two years from running backs get a good one on that drive to the field goal this is the one by Harvey Williams an excellent blocking job you see Harvey Williams come right up through a tight in Wham 87 Glover and also an excellent block by Tom Rathmann 44 there's the lane you're looking for it ends up being an 18 yard pickup and gene Atkins here's a four-point tackle as Hostetler looking for that goal line that contain I [Music] he worked out [Music] [Applause] and the Anderson makes the stop interesting thing about the Miami Dolphins they've got this fullback named Keith Byars seldom carries the football but likes to be a receiver and also an excellent leave blocker told us yesterday look when the running back behind me gets a hundred yards I feel complimented because I'm a big part of it on that particular run excellent leap block by Keith Byars they'll measure for a first down by the way buyers just that sure fires the former Eagle now running back in history had a string of catches that reached a hundred and he's looking for a catch today that will make it 110 and look at the names on that list larger than monk I then do some rice Carmichael a tide in gray and fire seventh all-time in consecutive games with the camp's mark Hicks second and short [Applause] fans [Applause] four yards as hIG's first carry becomes a Miami disaster the Miami Dolphins Josiah Cleveland Gary and we may have seen the last carry of mark Higgs as a Miami Dolphin he was kind of on the bubble with Cleveland Gary coming in here from the Rams and his teammates are trying to encourage him but talking to Hickey yesterday at practice and he said I don't know I can't get much respect here's well [Applause] plays like that there's only [Applause] you go and that's out the door interesting fall on second and inches wasn't it but he could have bounced out there himself you made that choice dick for point is good and the raiders lated 10 to nothing the team that has caused Don Shula more difficulty than any other the Raiders and it's Terry McDaniel who comes in to make the tackle and the strip that's not a big hit that knocked the ball away but it popped out of there it was ejected from his arms welcome back to Joe Robbie Stadium where the Raiders scored after Mark Higgs fumbled presumably the reason that Higgs was in the game instead of the starting running back Bernie Parmalee is the poor Mele had trouble with it contact he lost a contact in one of his eyes and how to put it back in go into the game at that point dick alright [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the 32-yard go back to the fumble by Higgs and Terry McDaniels has such a sensational year makes the tackle coming this way he's got a whole of the football but that's not a big bone jarring hit that normally knocks the ball away he has not gotten a lot of practice time and certainly not he's sharing the the playing time with Bernie Parmalee but our Don Shula they mean you don't want to go in there on Monday because you know what the jaw is gonna say to you loss of a lens we lost of the game thing Moreno stairs it starts from those 32 [Applause] record is extended to 110 consecutive games ten nothing here in Florida let's check elsewhere to New York we go alright dick at Pittsburgh big loss for the Steelers running back Barry Foster's second play of the game hit behind the line for a loss but he's also lost for the day he suffered a sprained left knee on the play this game is scoreless in the first quarter the Steelers and the Bengal back to Miami dick and Bob all right Greg not good news for the Steelers their star running back with a knee injury he didn't look very happy their offense five yard pass to he's explosive and driving for [Music] it's amazing how someone can sit so idly five four here and then with the injury that's Harry Kirby emerges this great running back nice Paul Keith Sims excellent job Keith Byars 41 that's creating that Lane that that's easy for Parmalee we give him the credit but the workers done by the guys up front Byers and Keith Sims forty yards already for Parmalee the Shia 38 [Applause] fifty-four Greg Baker at the middle linebacker in to Marino's face he an to unload and Byers was the closest white jersey and this is something that the Miami Dolphin you don't normally see only these things are picked up but be Curt is untouched and and Keith Jackson the tight end was wide open if Moreno has a split second to sit and look at the receiver you see his ankle at ankle brace he's not very mobile back there but timely blitz be Curt was one of the stars last week that hit on the goal line on Turner of New England to deny the Patriots a chance to time [Music] [Applause] [Applause] vaids la territory for the first time it's shy of a first down by about two and a half and again a very conservative past the slant nothing up top nothing taking a chance with throwing the ball up into this wind Manjula he's 65 next January number 332 in his career [Applause] sat/rad third down and two [Music] Anthony Smith the touchdown maker joycie for Don Shula [Applause] he's going to send out the funding that was a quick decision get yourself in a position where you get the Raiders the ball at midfield already leading by Tim Tim Brown dangerous on the return he's back inside the 15 pretty good average 15 and a half Raider history now [Music] Detroit it's the goal line just missed by a few blades of grass of being a magnificent kick 44 yards but 24 and we remind you that tonight the only place you're going to find football on television is right here on NBC network television premiere the football comedy Necessary Roughness tonight at 9:00 8:00 central here on NBC fumbles have led to the ten points for the Raiders [Music] by those defensive touchdowns haven't they five on the season and seven six and a half games getting the score today [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and Miami 40 will live down holding is the call against aerators the gates of 40-yard pass and run [Applause] illegal use of hands hands to the face number 68 you'll see it right in front of us on Jeff cross Wilkerson hands right up underneath the facemask referee Bob McElroy calls it no question about that that's an easy one that's an easy one Raiders live with these penalties second to Houston [Applause] takes it back to the Kenya [Applause] northern Michigan Bradley says I'm the only yooper in the NFL his mama librarian up in the Upper Peninsula Houghton Michigan playing with a very sore knee said maybe I wouldn't be playing this week but we do have a bye week and coach Shula says you're playing coach Shula does like those MRIs those x-rays you get out there to play kid of a Raider quarter Los Angeles Raiders recover two fumbles one leads to a 19 yard field goal by jeager when our Chelsea I'm not going for it fourth in less than a yard and then mark Hicks fumble picked up by Anthony Smith who rumbles 25 yards officially for a touchdown and it's 10 nothing the defense of the Raiders the key Raiders now fen deep in their own end just outside their 12 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] three beavers the rookie from Oklahoma makes the tackle after a short game brings up third and long interesting to see if the Raiders will do the same thing that the Dolphins did and that is go very conservative into this gusting win here in Joe Robbie Stadium Don Shula cents in three extra defensive backs brings out two linebackers and a defensive lineman [Applause] [Music] [Music] Brian Cox he's a dangerous teammate [Applause] Coleman probably the most improved defensive lineman for the Miami Dolphins a little bigger a lot stronger and still what that's Pete look at that hand strength boy he grabs Abeka Hostetler jersey and it's like a sheet on the back row yes sir and then the tackle watch out never turn your back on Brian Cox on the veal that's at the front [Applause] almost block McDuffie comes up and [Applause] downs him at the 48-yard line no return timeout Don Shula has to be happy that his team's in the second quarter another goose egg in the first period the Dolphins have scored in seven games only six first quarter points a couple of field goals and this is a high-scoring office one of the best in the league is amazing till position of the 48 of the Raiders after the short punt it [Applause] sideline covered by Albert Lewis bad dick and you see the difference Miami's approach first snapped with the win let's try to get it downfield Ingram runs the out and up and Albert Lewis was right with him step for step Danny admitted to us that he probably tried a little too hard to force it in there last week against Buffalo wish he'd thrown in a few more audibles I've taken the underneath stuff kept the chains moving unusual for marina their goal here kill in the brace that he wears an indication again that the here in the second period [Applause] [Music] xxx catch of the season ease terrific start thought there might be more but Albert Lewis the all-pro was on his heels this is a very short pattern it's gonna see the traffic created a little hesitation by Irving fryer in better shape 5% body fat does a lot more stretching our Reverend Irving fryer as a young man who has by umpire Dennis Rix he was dodging to receivers and [Applause] [Music] Moreno the short pass the tackle by trap on 36 yard line [Applause] dolphins running a lot of motion Vick to free up receivers they're getting man-on-man coverage by the Raider defensive backs and these defensive backs are just getting caught and all the crowd just across the line of scrimmage including the umpire he can be in the way too our shell in this sixth season and a major acquisition in Albert from Kansas City not only for leadership and [Applause] postions the safety with a tackle 50 yards for Parmalee in this opening half watch the acceleration once he recognizes where he wants to go buyers lead block farmer Lee stays right on his hip and that first step upfield boom the great running backs have that acceleration they all confidence in their lead blockers to put them in the right spot Parmalee this guy's not a surprise he's a shock that was on second and one where Nate's fumbled touchdown will Reno go over something second and one [Applause] [Music] I'm backer he showed his Katie stayed right with a running back Barma runs the Otton up in Fredricksen [Applause] the first the first pick of the Los Angeles Raiders was a true drop linebacker for Michigan State excellent coverage linebacker Frederickson is right here here's parley he runs the out and up Frederick Frederickson stays right with told us when training camp began they moved him inside he was lost when they moved him back outside that's fine coverage by right there struggling to get a first down and his shy [Music] for Gerry ball well over 300 McLaughlin over 310 pounds shoulder to shoulder [Applause] when they only have a four-man front it's tough to run in there much less when they feel ever again Victor wall only three enter plus pounds but not particularly tall so it's a low center of gravity hard to move them off the ball very little gain on that third down try by Parmalee up the middle so forth and work fires and Parmelee behind [Applause] close to the first down but it appeared that buyers might have moved prematurely again on Shula saying things he just can't stand in this football team but from a veteran who has gone through it so many times yep the legal motion - fumbles - penalties already on the Dolphins it's going to measure first and if it's not a first down the Raiders of course will take the ball the first down Raiders take over on first down the Los Angeles Raiders defense putting on a show with Joe Robbie Stadium ten nothing Raiders defense denying Dan the Dolphins to running plays on 3rd and 1 [Applause] convert buyers significant in taking seven is hostile Harvey Williams for a couple yards Harvey Williams from LSU number 22 but Williams [Music] than a number last year Kansas City number 44 Williams Brian Cox 51 helmet-to-helmet the fumble and Williams kayoed and more than ten minutes was on the field here at Joe Robbie and finally taken to the emergency hospital counts the linebacker there [Music] [Applause] 36 yard line the thing about [Applause] was that the fumble became more important to his life than the injury because Marty Schottenheimer basically didn't play him the rest of the ice right and there was a bigger argument as to whether Harvey was healthy or not Harvey said he was Marty said he wasn't but the net result was you're right he didn't play much after that and Harvey holds it against Marty Schottenheimer Natalie against Gerald Perry for holding and that'll take the Raiders half the distance into the 18 yard line Vic you mentioned earlier about Harvey Williams when he was with Kansas City with 230 now he's under 210 red meat [Applause] coach they're very self-conscious he the 18 secondary [Music] pushes him out of bounds there's a yellow flag back at the 16 well if we've seen Jeff Hostetler drag down hit abused so far in this first quarter and a half [Applause] McElwee checking the officials indicates it's against the Raiders of that thumb throw over the right children this was going to be third and a 3-wood and we'll take it inside the ten to the nine yard line let's see here's where that the holding takes place at Wisniewski [Applause] that's a takedown [Applause] [Music] looking for something outside or a fast and they were ready for the run gets only two meanwhile the concern for the health of the quarterback of the Raiders continues Hostetler in this first down has taken four very solid hits already his teammates have said look don't put yourself in that kind of Jeopardy [Applause] Hostetler from phil simms when he was with the giants that any chance you get to show your toughness [Applause] 26 [Music] [Applause] dolphins they play touch at middle linebacker on the pass rush because of his feet all [Applause] that's well you gotta hold the guy if he's got that greener cleaner shot on your quarter bike you can't turn the guy loose sighing spiral takes my bounce the 44 ten Brian Cox vicious attacker not playing in that middle linebacker spot leads the Dolphins with 45 hits and the last one was on Hostetler up at the rate for quickly on top well Hostetler after that last hit down on his goal line left the field through the helmet and really bark - Gerald Perry and also Wilkerson the guy who allowed Brian Cox around him that by the way was Brian Cox first sack of the season from that middle linebackers boss on a sack it wasn't called a sack incomplete facts I stand corrected sir a short jarick Hoskins was the closest player and and they're getting just enough pressure in the face of Dan Marino which has always been what teams have tried to do is collapse the pocket back into the base of Dan Marino and he's burying the throat not really sitting very comfortably in the pocket today 31 yards his last three Rhodes remaining in this first half Raiders [Applause] [Music] first down [Applause] Kantar the season you saw the signal from Don Shula that Dan Marino probably personnel because Greg Beatty and extra tight in comes in for Shula where he likes to throw on the right side [Music] you only had four seconds left on the 25 second clock now it's reset he gets another 25 so what's that [Applause] than one will see whether Miami goes for the field goal or the touchdown but first to New York alright dick at the Meadowlands the New England Patriots have pulled even with the Jets Drew Bledsoe three yards to Ray crittenton and with the extra point it's a seven sevent I between the Patriots and the Jets in East Rutherford let's go back to Miami and the winner of that game will go four and three and establish themselves as a threat in the AFC East Miami the Buffalo the frontrunners at four and two coming into this weekend well this is really a most important moment for the Miami Dolphins are down ten nothing they were stopped on fourth and one the Raider defense has really muscled it up and if they stop the fins as they call them again the Raiders could feed off that this is deja vu dolphins had the same problem in Buffalo last week and you know what that resulted in a loss normally when this offense has its rhythm it is a very difficult offense to even disrupt let alone stop they put enough middle pocket pressure on Dan Marino to really upset it they will not go for what would be about a 53-yard field goal that middle pressure maybe again they found a way that Buffalo could do it last week again the three tight ends used by [Applause] [Applause] [Music] catch of the season and Schiller says how tough is second catch first one that didn't result in a touch down you'll see Bedi come out of the crowd here from the left there he is somebody isn't blocking jerry ball jerry ball was in on Reno's in steps as he threw that one well they're trying to block him but they've also got whitener got the young man three balls for anybody [Applause] fluffing this opening hand [Music] [Applause] [Music] B Kirk was underneath rob Frederickson the man in coverage happen all day lefty Parmalee go out of the backfield be Curt an excellent drop reading Marino's eyes this can't get his hands up in time these two young guys be Curt and Fredriksson playing extremely well for this Raider defense seventh round selection a year ago Fredrickson guess the two of them along with from Penn Stater rookie three musketeers 50% 7 to 14 since we've received 250 pounds plus inside the 25 dick Miami search in here they are really searching for something that they can put their offense on some kind of hook someplace where they can run the ball you can hear those defensive coordinators that make them earn it Miami has earned every penny of this firsthand nothing has come easy for Miami you're absolutely right by the Raiders by Los Angeles Raiders 5:45 left in the first half welcome back the Raiders first-year defensive coordinator John Fox his team gave up 44 to the Niners and 38 to Seattle in the first two games but they've really tightened up things then 16 to Denver 26 to San Diego 17 last week and they have stymied today [Applause] here the gusts of wind [Applause] offenders hid serving [Applause] first down man Irving is a tough dude always has been one of the best blocking receivers in league again no pressure on Dan Marino it's like Anthony Smith and Nolan Harrison got his arm in but look at this Herrera puts his head down runs right over Washington to keep the drive alive that was a big play [Applause] [Applause] man responsible for coverage was Greg peeker Jackson Jackson gave him an out mo went right the beaker everyone talked about the quickness of arm of Moreno there was a classic delivery Moreno got that ball out in a hurry not a lot of space and that quick arm buys you space in the end zone [Applause] that of Jim Arnold's hold [Applause] [Music] ten to seven [Applause] this is the this is beaker right here here's Jackson he comes up gives the out movement then up into the endzone beaker fights on the out move and you're going to see just how little room there is for Marino to get it in but that quick release the ball is gone before Jackson even looks dick you're absolutely right that release it buys you space that's that's worth a couple of steps that quick throw watch the move outside be Kurt buys [Applause] goes right by between the APA when you have linebacker coverage on a guy like tight in eventually Jackson's going to get it we're gonna bulking out around not throwing particularly well by Dan Marino his 16th touchdown pass of the year Marino who leads the NFL [Music] [Applause] ever closer to Fran Tarkenton seemingly insurmountable record of 342 touchdown passes didn't marina tell you I want all those records I want every one of them our pregame NFL want to leave is the all-time greatest faster in terms of the numbers most [Music] for the second all-time yardage he's already second in touchdowns and second in completion suppose he carries a grudge we tried NFL scouts that have 83 they were wrong the last quarterback taken in the first round I think he reminds himself is course he does it's a eight blaze to go the 44 yards and three and a half minutes for the touchdown - Tarkenton and in attempts and incompletions and he's behind Fouts next week but he trade all those numbers for a Super Bowl champ didn't hesitate when is out moment [Music] it was the good defensive stand and the Raider penalties that set up field position rocks hitting Hostetler on the third down 10:7 all the points have been scored to the right end zone here with the wind even though it's gusting so we've got a scouring end zone we've got a non scoring in zone today and Gus strong enough that Chris green is going to have to hold the ball for story on a on the kickoff is smile and Alexander Ryder deep [Music] the rocket side [Applause] to number 30s out there the answer question is no [Applause] as a running back you take a lot of hits and the kickoff coverage you get the give one the ball that's [Applause] results out of that collision maybe a player too before the Rockets back in the huddle the Raiders at the 30 when out to the 45 yard line first down if Froy Vincent made that come back as we go back to in the grid that touchdown scored by Keith Jackson what speaker 54 in the red circle you see zone covers behind him but he's got the coverage on the tight end when the out move happens beaker takes one step out and that's all that's necessary for Keith Jackson to get in the end zone his first score [Applause] [Music] [Applause] deflected it certainly interesting matter dick I think it was the wind now it may have been Marco Coleman that got his hand on it but that ball did really get out of round in a hurry - crickets here's why does he get his hand up in time yes if the fingers get the ball out around and that baby just died right at jet speed [Applause] two four seven [Music] [Applause] is having a whale of a first-half I don't know if the penalty is on Gerald Perry number 71 you tell me yours Jeff Hostetler [Music] refuse to call [Applause] but again Coleman having an excellent first half you can see he's on period it's again it's the outside rush Rose Kari very grab that arm that's a result of that again / Wilkerson [Applause] dolphins decline the [Music] [Applause] Hostetler is holding on to that ball too long so the punting team on Raiders and Miami with four minutes and a second left on the half will get it back Cox at the far side of the screen he's on Wilkerson goes by the quarterback he comes back [Applause] there was slight contact as he delivered the pun [Applause] next weekend America versus Europe the Solheim Cup a determined American squad led by LPGA top 10 money winners that include Betsy Kang patty she and Beth Daniel against the European team Solheim Cup next Saturday at 4:00 Eastern on NBC [Applause] asses fired back and the success of the running out to the 40-yard line dick on the sideline art shell I believe just pulled Jeff Hostetler Hostetler talked back to him she'll turn around and said bids get ready [Music] trying to read lips and it the essence of the message in shelter second in five Winston also played here at the University of Miami it's third and five [Music] on the sidelines our Jill is certainly trying to make a point other thanks to new to pitch you get ready mr. Isaac install consoled Jeff Hostetler and the Raiders are leading [Applause] relating to n7 RTL making his point Raider Mystique's venting his feelings upstairs not to that man al Davis Tom Walsh is the offensive coordinator [Music] that's who he's talking through Tom Walsh meanwhile the defense certainly doing its job has stopped Miami again and Jim Arnold to punt to Tim Brown Brown at the 20-yard line [Music] successful of way [Applause] [Music] fifty-two Brandt Boyer looking for [Music] drama on the Raider sidelines well they got both of them there Prince Evans and Jeff Hostetler I Stadler pleading Sam's I'm sure you have Paula ties at this point VIN severance is coming out Paul Brown told me one time told us one time at a team meeting don't hold me responsible for what I see on the sidelines during a you responsible I would prefer to have our shell being an ex-player the emotion of Jeff Hostetler put him back in the game this could be just a one series thing I hope no more than that [Applause] he was concerned about bravado [Applause] taking over on the 16th often time and the Raiders spent a timeout [Applause] Jeff Hostetler the starting quarterback roughed up in this first half holding the ball too long and then part after he yelled at his linemen over there arts shell a former lineman I have a feeling with say hey it's not all their fault yeah that's true you're holding on to the ball too long don't be barking at the guys trying the best they can and he's he's looking out for the entire team and look Attucks Hostetler when he comes in I put him in running back our moments in a head coaches life whether we're you have to take control of the football team and hard-shell just you just handed a message to Jeff Hostetler [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] his fifth catch of the season after Brian preseason where he lived the Raiders Troy Vincent the tacklers and might take us to the two-minute timeout everybody is coming over here to try to console t apostille he was talking to Mike white on the sidelines now he's talking to fellow teammates this is still the side of self well there's Lucas trainer look Lockett 350 and he can restrain two-minute timeout in Miami emotion is expressed in many ways in sport [Applause] [Music] Williams close to a first down that was a second down carry you hope is a player that all the emotion you have built up you turn against your opponent not against a teammate that's wasted emotion for the measurement at the 148th mark of this first half [Applause] let's go back to where well it really started with the hits taken by Hostetler and the fact that his offensive linemen we're committing penalties and then lastly after chewing out his offensive line then apparently didn't agree with what our chil said to him you saw that debate and then shows that our events get ready [Music] no hesitation and our shells but whatever Hoss said it was our shells hot button and we've seen on the near sidelines Marino and Silva in that same sort of encounter Evan I don't think she was ever pulled damn [Applause] [Music] this lies you some forty pounds lighter Kluber on the inside runs the app good zone coverage Troy Vincent back from that knee problem always has that good closing speed great corners have that closing speed Vincent certainly has it second and ten Vincent Evans of quarterback for Hostetler Evans 39 he's [Applause] [Music] [Applause] had it for momentum disentangled market free perfect timing by Vincent and it looked like Hobbs his second foot came down didn't know if he had clear control of the football this is just a hitch pattern almost thrown a little late now I never had control never had control yards and kasa stopping the [Applause] Jeff cross pastor and four-cross he now is tied with Marco Coleman on the season each with four Miami calls time 1:22 left and they're going to get the ball at least in sevens didn't throw an interception or there wasn't a turnover when Evans came in it's a NFL live halftime report coming up with - Super Bowl champion coaches to analyze and comment on the action of the early games today and I am I would want to hang around just to hear what did good tips would say where did where do you cross the line with your coaching the Yankees starting Porter I think Joe Gibbs generally had a better relationship with his quarterbacks then did Mike Ditka with Jim McMahon and others they're mighty and Jim Harbaugh got along just fine all beautifully beautifully we'll be interesting to see exactly what they are [Music] [Applause] [Music] on the return to the 42 Damelin special teams tackle and Marino has one minute 11 seconds to try to move his team downfield for at least a possible time field goal dick we noticed that Lionel Washington left the field he's an extra defensive back and the Raiders have they have used seven defensive backs here and the long yardage since a race of situations against the Dolphins interesting to see what they'll do here the Dolphins have one timeout six TVs by the Raiders [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the Raiders were it'll be second and one again that's linebacker coverage on the Keith Byars you're going to see everybody clear out here and here's the matchup fires in the backfield beaker the middle linebacker and it looks to me like the fires is the only person that Dan Marino is looking for thanks to catch gets the yardage and gets out of bounds to stop the clock he leads the dolphins thirty-six Cantor's buyers on the season [Music] jerry ball they just are stop the penetration of jerry ball it was going to be a middle screen to Keith Byars it should set up right in front of you and there's a big plot by jerry ball Aaron wallet away Darrin Wallace was right there and Moreno saved him did they see Dan Marino do that a long time ago and some Super Bowl actually was joke dies when he did that interception by a Raider Mike Williams [Applause] northeastern for catches in his first four years in Miami and now has five this season dental Frank on the coverage [Applause] the line of scrimmage might have been the man offside in the neutral zone it stops the clock for the moment side number 93 defense though it was balls [Applause] oh it's a first down at the 37 as they take the completed pass fifty-two seconds remain in the hand 10 nothing Lausanne 10-7 Los Angeles [Applause] on the outside and then Derek Hoskins helping out at safety most of the excitement of this first half on defense and on the sidelines Los Angeles Raiders will Levin's be the quarterback next time out for the LA offense that was Tom Wolf's the offensive coordinator they're talking to Jeff Hostetler again this is ongoing Jeff is not me [Applause] for buyers when Harrison his pressure led to a touchdown was the man in on 74 defend Harrison was oxides this this is at least cooled off the Los Angeles Raiders this thing on the sideline the penalty total for Los Angeles continues Lars now forty yards on five calls it seems more than that doesn't yes it does but it always does when the repeaters play [Applause] second and closer to field goal range 42 seconds [Applause] in fact on the 32 yard line the defense of the Raiders has been outstanding in this first half Donald Franck the former charger with his first interception as a Raider ball tipped intended for Williams and Frank does an excellent job of hanging onto that that football or the Raiders needed that kind of defensive play Miami moving into field goal range yeah anything they need to get into the locker room settle this thing between art shell and Jeff Hostetler get on with their business in the second half Frank does a great job here the old tip drill just get your hands on it and catch it Mike Williams overpowered with that bullet Moreno and dents Evans is the quarterback as the Raiders offense takes the field [Applause] and incomplete pass [Applause] Coleman is eating Gerald berry for lunch today 6:3 and he's gained some weight he's up to 267 well that this is this is this is too tight in how in the world can the tight end be blocking on Marco Coleman I don't think Vince Evans was holding the ball there too long Raiders in this first half have a net yards passing and yet late endosome [Applause] Chris Singleton finishes what Marco Coleman started he slowed him up Coleman and singles him number 55 makes the staff Don Shula has some things to work over at halftime as well as offense has had to struggle to get seven an iron shell yes there'll be a closed door and they'll work out the problems at quarterback timeout called with 4 seconds remaining it gives us a chance to tell you that it's a great Tuesday night on NBC if you like to laugh that's the place to be here the peacock a special hour of wings this Tuesday and an all-new Fraser followed by an all-new lyric Kent it all starts at 8:00 7:00 central Tuesday night on NBC 47 year old art shell and this could be one of the major tests of his tenure as the head man of the Raider Vic I agree with you totally you're talking about those who admire Hostetler's toughness and the fact that what they don't like today is what they do like about him and that's why they acquired him but at the same time emotion on the sidelines of a football game has to be tolerated by all involved but you can't have it on the field walk to the Sun right and turn it off it doesn't happen that way an art shell knows that playa this first happened michael stewart and that'll do at the end of the half the raider is leading miami ten to seven academic is what and this deletes it days have his brief arranged as he leaves the field and Mark shale thinking about what's the deceitful has behalf [Music] fighting Raiders late 10:00 to 7:00 get you caught up with all the rest of the accident around the league let's go to Greg Gumbel in New York Lausanne New York Los Angeles Raiders using their defense with very little offense ten to seven the score at the intermission and the drama on the sidelines between head coach shell and this quarterback situation most intriguing yeah and dick we got to go back just before all that happen on the sidelines the last play that Jeff Hostetler took took part in if you'll watch the wide receivers they're three wide receivers a tight end and a running back and as to play unfolds you find an open receiver for Jeff Hostetler to throw the ball to there as Harvey Williams comes out of the backfield late but that's it he gets hit by Brian Cox and that's what really started all the argument on the sideline there's nobody for Hostetler to throw to he confronts art shale this is the first time when he comes off the field and arch told us yesterday we want him to throw the ball away quit taking the hits and then Hostetler thought about it and then he came back and started to argue and said something that she'll didn't like it all it definitely hit hard shells hot-button he turned directly to Vince Evans [Music] really wounded quarterback there let's see what has happened during the intermission Hannah Storm well I talked to Jeff hostile knows he was coming out of the locker room asked him if he was going to start the second half he said you got me asked him if he worked anything out he said they had not worked anything out and when I asked him if he even spoke with arch shell he said no shell had no comment on who is going to start the second half dick all right Anna will have to wait for that decision because the Dolphins get the ball first trailing ten to seven meanwhile the greater defense absolutely brilliant and steaming Miami most of the half kickoff out of bounds and whether no rule that means that the Miami Dolphins will start way up on the 45 yard line let's take a look at the first half results the Coors Light halftime statistics nothing to really scream at scream for here the three turnovers by the Miami Dolphins have produced but ten points for the Los Angeles Raiders Raiders have protected the ball but not protected their quarterback 11 passing yards for Los Angeles well Hostetler and Evans heating up I think houses your choice here this this is not the last game of the season it there's a lot of games left [Applause] pounds drives out close to the 45 yard line nearly 5 on the carry dairy Huskins made this stop of Parmalee who leads all rushers firmly now with 60 yards on the game I gotta get him the ball more last week 15 carries 91 yards that was his best rushing day well on his way to another best rushing day if they give him the ball enough second in fire form you wonder what all that happened on me with all that happening on the Raider sideline what effect it will have on the Raider team you can't have a situation like that and have it only affect one side of the football you've got the head coach are you arguing with the quarterback things not right no matter what yeah I agree with you except that of any team in the NFL can't handle it this is your writers two and a half for marina - tricky when blowing [Music] [Applause] [Music] dick we saw this in the again it's linebacker coverage on Keith Byars near spires ears beaker it's like this you also see Ingram with a little flock out here no call but he gets a nice assist from marking from number 82 he's right down in front of the cornerbacks legs tires a big man when he catches that football brakes to tackle her first down inside the Raider [Applause] and as feed Andrew Anderson make the tackle and every time you give credit to the runningback don't forget the guy in front of him key players Dayton Ohio where he was on two times state basketball champions more than 41 Keith Byars and there's a lot on his mind today not only these Raiders but his wife Margaret is overdue and she's right there with her partner should [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] she's a gospel singer and brilliant talent and that's her niece who were there as the designated driver keith was at practice yesterday and had a beeper on and I said well what happens if things start to happen on and he said to his wife Margaret no game day babies shul who doesn't like game day big in babies first down it will be their second child he says she knows the sex of the child but he said I didn't want to know he's taking the Lamaze he said I didn't need any refresher courses and he went through a little breathing force yesterday he's ready just get the game over mama he also has a free football camp in Dayton [Music] and Wilkinson the first pick [Applause] and get himself about two maybe three Winston Maus makes the Sun they see a change in the emotion of the readers see and there's some wonderment on this island I said are there control central as you can get that he's far away mark Higgs first time sand touchdown [Applause] Scott Davis number 70 into the game for the Raiders made the stop contact problems again antrax context problems again for Bernie Parmalee he was undrafted told us that he was dead already interviewing for a job selling insurance he's been good insurance now in his third year here at Miami a backup for two years special team star and now their leading rusher [Applause] formation I have McDuffie in the backfield as a running back with buyers buyers again lead block chips on Nolan Harrison that's a strong run hi Oda McDuffie not a particularly big kid looked like a pull back on that one first and goal from the War of the dolphins [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good surge defensively by the nin black jerseys LED that Fredrickson [Applause] last time formerly had to markets bumbled the ball picked up by Anthony Smith who went 25 yards for the Raiders touchdown tenth play that drive eight of the nine have been on the ground [Applause] a wing left [Applause] you hear the smack and then is just a wall inside against the Raiders difficult to penetrate for Miami and Davis that time shoulder for the staff No third and goal coach frumpy I'd look for the tight end chief Jackson in these situations big body is it jack on the right side he has the Miami touchdown [Applause] his hands on it for the radars great be current on the comforts as well so uncommon of its as EULA goes for the tying field-goal rare that you find it tight in at 250 pounds you can split out as a wide receiver Hoskins plays the inside ball thrown low Marino did not want any kind of a interception of the ball tipped or there wasn't much of a hole that's never discouraged chat burrito and it was a sliver 21-yard attempt I stay out of it is a new at 10 all [Applause] you know we've been together [Music] just keeps getting better [Music] dr. pepper your [Music] it's a reputation for dependability that grows with every year it's a reputation for toughness builds one mountain at a time and it's a reputation so new yet so familiar but best of all it's Toyota ranked the number one truck line in customer satisfaction four years in a row [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] looks as if we have radar date aunt and chef Hostin there will return shuttle diplomacy by Vince Evans between art shell and Hostetler things settle at least for the moment the Raiders have register the first down since mid first quarter those six knockdowns his problem not finally an open receiver and waiting and waiting and waiting hoping something would open [Applause] [Music] tense Toyota Vitz picks it off for Miami in the third [Music] Alexandr right [Applause] - time in a fastest man and the Jets going on that return timeout [Music] welcome back and in that greater huddle wouldn't you like to hear there's going to be some pretty good humor right about yeah I agree also moments like this and bring a team together there is no question about it I mean Hostetler's a popular guy hangs around with lifts weights with him there on his side but they know that ourselves to Boston boss what you sent to his room [Applause] [Music] [Applause] came up from the corner to stop him after a three-yard game Tim Brown caught the only passive you know we talked about that the 4 by 100 greatly on all the speed that here's some speed the Raiders bring in at wide receiver yet as you had pointed out about Rumpy the only cats by one of the four was Brown nine yards that was it for the first half [Applause] inside the lamby 35 18-yard play and that was a nice throw by Hostetler he had coverage underneath the receiver he had coverage on top of the receiver just put enough air in the ball to drop it right into Tim round he's looking at timber at all away Stewart the safety is behind him my house [Applause] pling by Joe Greene paid him a terrific compliment he said he thinks he's the best run stopper in the lake his only disappointment in this season cling Bell said talk to his mom at home hockey strike [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Davers [Applause] I'm the line of scrimmage Oh as close would be a sack his third of the year very familiar picture today [Applause] see if we can pick up what's Coleman 19 Bevers at the top of the screen gets by Tom Rathman and he grabs ahold of his shirt but again the corners flush the quarterback and Hostetler and we can't hold you out Kemosabe slow down we're new here is the rookie from Oklahoma Reavers beats Rathmann on one side Pullman beat Gerald Perry on the nearside they met they take the 10-yard penalty [Applause] plus a couple decline [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] yard play the watch 55 singleton dropped back he's going to appear in the picture just again he's not looking at the football he's looking at the receiver Browns season what a catch by Tim Brown all drug yet di Brown and coverage linebackers in zone underneath [Applause] this is the been that to deface concentrates on the football makes a couple of dolphins miss on the way to the a yard line a gain of 4 plus Brian Cox finally with a hit Williams who rushed for 18 yards his first carry and then only had 14 the next six of a stumbling first half for the Raiders Eko wonderful catch by Tim Brown that was a my team needs a lift I got to catch this ball [Applause] incomplete Brown trying to stay inbounds and Hoss takes another solid hit Chris Singleton in on top of the Raider quarterback and dick again he runs right over Tom Rathman watch what happens here when the collision takes place we rappin known as an excellent fast buck or watch this pool pulls him right back into the feet of Jeff Hostetler pass on his back again his joints must be rubberized the way they Raiders flew in on a 747 lots of room for Hostetler to lie down look away ho timeout Los Angeles now from good old Texas State down six [Applause] down chance of [Applause] Brown dry that was a Honolulu drive for Tim Brown pro-ball stuff [Music] as JB brown and coverage the release outside the defensive back very unusual and the athletic skills and the strength of Tim Brown well Denver tried to get him away from the Raiders Hostetler called out Davis and said you got to keep him there's further evidence of why sixteen to 10 at 17 Jeff Hostetler his reaction as Brown pulls in that touchdown boy the peaks and valleys emotionally today Jeff Hostetler News that the inspiration coming from that man tim brown 57 60 yards 17 so jameth [Applause] for 30 24 yard line again back to the big catch that happened the last time the Raiders had the ball this is Tim Brown watch what happens to the guy in the red this is the middle linebacker he has coverage underneath Hostetler puts just enough air and underneath the ball that it goes over the outstretched arms of the linebacker Brown makes the catch breaks the tackle ends up being a 30-yard reception one of his three in that Drive inspiration to his teammates is 24-yard [Applause] in Jackson and then he can't were they going to rule the ball before going to Oh flag down back at the Marino's throwing point and this may be a dolphin penalty number 78 [Music] last two weeks have not been an offensive for the Miami Dolphins they've invested a lot in this offense around it Dan Marino with an awful lot of people buyers Jackson and web boo gave up the sack and the fumble when Harrison beat him and knocked it free from [Applause] like the middle screen [Applause] this I would believe is too tough play for Dan Marino to make with that bad ankle he's got a sell pass again nolan harrison 74 right in his face and b curd shocked at the ball is right there in his arms goes incomplete dolphins prairie lucky second down [Applause] [Music] and front floor is a couple of changes that they've made [Music] [Applause] joltin Chris gray recovers the fumble Nolan Harrison again between Paul and Harrison they have been camped with Marino old you always try to get pressure up the middle there's no question about that [Applause] and Harrison right in Dan Marino's face on out of here how greater quarterback you are you don't have time to throw it he's drawing it back that's collapse of this is an offensive line that historically has protected Dan Marino like diamonds Chris gray is making his first NFL [Music] the second-year man from [Music] the first time but picking up some real estate out to the 24 yard line and that's where this series began middle pressure to get Marino sometimes 17:10 Los Angeles late in the third quarter and Tim Brown there's young Chris gray Arnel the punch very short bouncing out of bounds at the 36 yard line 41 yard punt timeout dan Marino searching for help the offense stymied by Buffalo on a 21 to 11 loss last week 17:10 as right in the second half hands of brown this time rare miss for him Freud Vincent the nearest dolphin you know we talked about Raiders having Miami's number 16 wins only five losses in a tie Raiders over Don Shula's dolphins and warm the Raiders have a winning record here 7-5 when I talk to Don Shula I didn't bring that up to June right I'm humbled as I Buffalo is losing to Indianapolis you Joel Vincente he rides him down got a piece of them but it's 15 yards Wow dick graders now had control of this football game the passing on the last Drive loosened up the defense and the Miami Dolphins a little more man-to-man and now they can go back to the run excellent job by Wisniewski 76 on 51 Cox eight nine yards down the field before he was hit [Music] [Applause] Meech no gain Kling bio made the tackle let's go to Greg Gumbel in New York all right Nick you mentioned what's happening in Buffalo take a look at Don Makowski on for injured Jim Harbaugh 19 yards to Floyd Turner his second TD catch of the game the worst passing team in the league has its third touchdown of the day by air the Colts lead at 27 to 10 in buffalo dick my 17 point lead for the cold so Miami fans will cheer that score when it's announced [Music] [Applause] beautiful rainbow through by Hostetler in the basket and Troy Vincent's defense denied man-to-man coverage the initial Chuck Vincent has to speed to stay with Tim Brown Vincent's still coming back with a knee injury should have been a flatter was contact here there was contact watch the in Pomona that's hard to turn home third and ten this second half so he'll go over and talk things over very politely I'm sure well the real talkative gun here will be Fred well let in the coffee yes aren't you keeping his distance I might make mention of this Raiders win this game this is a little blip the Raiders lose this game and this is a major problem for the Los Angeles Raiders so winning solves a lot of things this week winning means you're 3 & 3 after a very dismal start losing means or 2 & 4 and even though there's a favorable schedule ahead might be difficult to think playoff good point tomorrow night Fresh Prince gets a visit from a great athlete the legendary Kareem abdul-jabbar it's a special Fresh Prince of bel-air tomorrow night at 8:00 7:00 central here on NBC 17 to 10 the Raiders have the lead and a and Tim [Music] Norm's the Miami Dolphins as yet [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he got across the 40 it's going to be it would appear from here about a ball short of the first time but they're going to measure and dig the official sideline marker is on the far side this is the unabled site very difficult to tell there's the official sideline but again Jeff Hostetler showing his guts little sense an awful lot of nerve Stuart 35 coming stretches the ball out the same rules at the goal line do not apply the first down marker we'll see whether or not he gets the first [Music] [Music] but there again Hostetler you know the very thing that you might be criticizing him for or thing don't hold it too long a lot of less experienced less tough quarterbacks would have forced something instead he waits and waits campers out of there and get to good yardage almost the first down yeah most quarterbacks think of their own self-preservation first Hostetler one of the few who does not although that wasn't a tough hit he did have contact on the dive nine he's been under that kind of pressure as gasa comes in on interesting here with extremely long whew there's gossip lines it just into the end zone looking for the was about two yards deep into the end zone 40 yards 20 net Miami takes over on the 20 17 to 10 is Moreno hoping he can generate some offense has been very little for Miami today [Music] behind the stats we go [Applause] the Miami Dolphins who are always very positive and Everage yards per game 327 and 91 up to 340 393 363 in this year 403 yard average but today they have only 208 [Music] intercepted Hoskins was right there in front again we saw this last week Danny lock it in on a receiver you see Hoskins 20 coming right at it that was close and who was in Marino's face again jerry ball what kind of shave lived in the where only 65 idea and me outside and I hear Davis the man he's trying to block you notice it just to mcLaughlin [Music] that's on Richmond Webb Justin McLachlan not in there I mean they use a combination of defensive people up front but there's McLaughlin on the sideline with a shoulder pads they were rapping his high chest you got a report might have been his upper arm Moreno the whole second and fifteen at his own 15 patiently waited begun only three and a tough tackle the rookie Rob Frederickson Hannah dick the wind has picked up here it's blowing from Dan Marino's left to his right from the Dolphins sideline to the Raiders island and past that blast pasady through that almost got picked off was directly into the wind all right Thank You Hannah tricky stuff [Applause] tannoy cell by flag direction it's exactly the opposite the second straight wreak week to Miami Dolphins base considerable when last week in Buffalo now here in their homes this is career of Joe Robbie Stadium he looked labored when we saw him at practice on Saturday dick like he'd suffered all week with the performance of the offense last week in Buffalo just not work in the last two weeks it may or may not be the way the short kick at the 45 [Applause] and Bernie Parmalee recovers right in front of our Chell is the case as well that Browns knee was down I've not seen an indication yet have you of the third quarter [Applause] McElwee wants to gather a make sure this one [Applause] lady makes the first contact hard to tell in there can't tell from that angle sure looked as if he would be tough for him not to be down for the ball to pop out this is a key call here this either puts Miami back in the game [Applause] as he was saying here look like a fumble like he went down and it was the ground that comer's we'll be back after these messages from your local station that 1710 going to the four scented by authority of the National Football League again is intended for the private use of our audience and even broadcaster all the use of this telecast without the express written consent of the NFL is prohibited hard-shell watching what could be a very critical call it's ruled a fumble Miami takes over on a 43-yard line Tim Brown [Music] [Applause] the Raiders leave of his blockers and into the myths and cherry ball 93 what a game he's had this 8-year veteran from SMU great hand strength or agility person showed up he said look I'm not going to shrink you gonna lose a lot of weight I'm not going to shrink it our Jill that's probably the nicest thing anybody's said to Jerry Paul hey you're talking to a big man and they listed shell of less than 300 d play about 340 I am Jackson the first down if Hoskins and moss you elaborate on the stop Raiders have done a great job of taking away the outside receivers of the Miami Dolphins Herman fryer have had little or no action today it's basically come from fires Jackson on the inside plus enough for a measurement you see Marie Marino by game last week against Buffalo under 500 212 yards 1 touchdown today under 500 he's hitting 47% dozers for a man percentage up around 60% the thing is that football teams are great copycats and if they see coaches see one team put pressure up the middle in a certain way usually shows up the next week if it has some positive effect and the waiters have obviously used great effort but also some schemes to crush the pocket back inches [Music] first down the contact another big hit by key fires on the Fredrickson 53 out of the hole [Applause] the value of buyers and all fans that we're all guilty of not seeing the cause for good things and buyers the block is important as what firmly does this took took Frederickson right out of there what it Steve Smith former Raider tell us is blocking takes courage low man wins from Marino and the [Music] the crafty veteran on that Ingram looked to be open and Moreno saw it that way but watch Lewis luis always been able to cover ground that passes thrown high again to Ingram he's got a better chance to catch it again I think the wind is having for the second week in a row a real and renal he normally through asphalt very well [Music] Kansas City chief one of the reasons he has only intersections if the fact that I'll throw at him stay away from the inside [Applause] [Music] get too excited Margaret from out of the backfield again linebacker coverage this time the pattern is inside for Keith Byars no one there close although land does eventually make the tackle quiet please plays bar please maybe she's listening and up and cheer I go that any catching every quarter the game [Applause] when they're about to deliver Keith Byars has to by Margaret happy and about seventy-five thousand others here at Joe Robbie now the coined by stoyanov it's too tight [Music] [Applause] dolphins take advantage [Applause] take advantage of an apparent break on the fumble call and they yards and six plays Keith Byars for the touchdown 18 tied at 17 well lucky you know was wearing the pager today the pager the teeth had a practice in cases he's got a trainer on the sidelines but I have a feeling if it goes out Margaret whose honor Raiders Ernest Toyota chicks [Applause] [Music] [Applause] let's go back to the touchdown fires Fredrickson we have seen all day long linebacker coverage on key fires I think Fredrickson is expecting the platicas first intent buyers looks back Frederick's and bytes buyers turns up and then just he's been exploiting us all [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he moves the pile across 220 our V Williams limped off and he was in for rocket Ismail who has not returned since he took that hit from Pharma Leon a kick return in the first half little ouchie [Applause] Montgomery now 15 yards rushing [Applause] [Music] just an ouchie this time Chris Singleton playing a big game for the Dolphins at linebacker the former New England Patriots said he wants to own his own car why I was there was actually looked at us what I really wanted to do some day his own my own car wash and Auto Detailing he said I'll spend a whole afternoon Wasserman Paulson my car his twin brother ready for him he's an assistant coach at University [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and down he goes at the 28 yard line Frankie Smith there to make sure tom hollie bagatti the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins told me yesterday said you know Hostetler is most dangerous when he shakes out of that pocket because he doesn't look downfield to throw he looks downfield to run there was another instance Williams returns fling ball went [Applause] race today seconds it's the clock for that [Applause] across knighting in from defensive end with all brie Bevers the linebacker on the tackle beautiful day and this is a magnificent new stadium Joe Robbie 75,000 to see the Raiders and dolphins to long-standing foes of the AFC Shuler start shel played on the same high school [Music] [Applause] 17 [Applause] [Music] the four yard line and EC number 94 almost able to bat it away but he doesn't care about quarter of the normal rules you apply to a quarterback when he starts across the line of scrimmage Hostetler is going to be a running put his head first he's gonna do anything he possibly can [Applause] boats leave by 10 [Applause] last year Shula said it was the biggest injury they had on their team right hand knocks the ball away not only what Vincent brings to the team on the field but off the field quality kid great leader we're certainly glad to have him back this is the second week in a row now that he started a little solidarity in that defensive backfield the injured player apparently is 71 gerald Perry the left tackle we'll check on his condition when we come back welcome back to toe Robbie Stadium 17 all and gossiped forced to find McDuffie back [Applause] when really taking that one out the field of play and it'll be marked [Applause] just after 30 indeed is the offense will come on for the fins a flag is down at midfield 37-yard punt if part of the officiating that's changed that I really applaud they get together and make sure setting personal files fifty-three of the kicking team the kicking team 53 the receiving team Lee's offset first down I think it was 56 Andre Bruce and Aubrey Bevers tonight NVC it's a double movie for you double feature first up Jim Belushi stars Network television premiere of curly sue and in another comedy and the only place you're gonna find football on television tonight the network premiere the gridiron comedy Necessary Roughness ole tonight starts at 7:00 six central here on NBC [Music] or you can see the wind really take that ball man that was a slider to Mark Ingram they started the the game there's Tim Brown getting a cramps massage doubt of his calves on the sideline in the first quarter they went back to the very short stuff and at work the top of the goalpost the crossbar the uprights they're very deceiving that's above the stadium but down on the field you can see the paper blowing and it's gusting and there's no way to know exactly which way it's crowd reaction in the background was to that Buffalo score the Colts on their way to victory at [Applause] by three Raiders after a pickup of a couple Bruce was there first oh there it is up on the board 27:17 as Kelly gets the two yard touchdown pass the Thomas late in the fourth quarter [Music] with a Miami wind would give the Dolphins then sold possession of first place in the AFC East they're foreign to type of Buffalo coming in but it's certainly crowded in the AFC's toward the sidelines a win has so much affect Mike Williams was the target didn't see him Jess like a sidearm sinker I think dance very mad at himself but there's not what you can do about the conditions unless you throw underneath and come up with some shorter stuff but on a third and ten third and eight you don't have much choice you gotta at least try to get the first down around and return [Applause] 4:26 [Music] put six on the return timeout midpoint of the fourth-quarter Raiders in Miami at 17 tied at 17 midpoint of the fourth quarter time Montgomery one of the runners Harvey Williams has been more successful today and here is the story of the 94 season rushing for the Raiders up [Music] maybe six against No best of the season a hundred and six yard Michel and philosophy Legos No [Applause] [Music] can't believe it that catch has got to be made [Applause] Troy Vincent has certainly been busy today he's the man who's supposed to be covering James Jett the catch and actually that absolutely that looked very close come on then worse though watch that second foot catch me one yeah it evens out yeah oh geez [Applause] in front of Tim Braun as he was hit again Harvey Williams was open out here in the [Applause] well KITT the Jeff Hostetler is taken today mr. ice bag human ice bag yeah cross pie Quinn while there have been many hits that are just rushing salad hits on us 10.com rule [Applause] two catches by Jen almost [Music] that was a tough chance but osawa had to in the hands of the same receiver same receiver and that receiver could not hang on James Jett go six straight in completes for the Haas and in comes Gossett to fund the fireside lines [Music] Lock there gets to the 32 a 46-yard fund free on the return time running out tied at 17 come back to Hamburg bump Trumpy Hannah Storm with Joe Robbie Stadium Jeff Hostetler what almost was James J who met last year 23.4 camp was open deep he starts at the 31 [Applause] [Music] he had 91 yards last week at Buffalo he's got 96 today Chester McLaughlin out of that defensive front there one right at his spot locked in a big strong guy I got Scott Davis playing inside and there is a big drop out there Miami's gonna exploit that six and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter [Applause] five gerri ball makes the stop Parmalee over the century mark for the first time in his brief NFL career again we've talked about Keith Byars and this is going to be run right outside Scott Davis number 70 good leap block again on Winston Moss by heat fires nice pickup Bernie Parmalee all state [Applause] [Music] the pitch back looking for we just stood there Irving Pryor just stood there he runs the paradise now if he comes back for the football dick it's a completion it's absolutely amazing Irving fryer is a veteran receiver but watches this unfolds you're going to see that the dive in here and then the pits back but here's the receiver and he just stops and he doesn't come back for the football this is Just Answer to defend her time to get up to a ball and knock it away third and five could have been a score Washington with a touchdown on an interception against San Diego earlier this year that was intended for OJ McDuffie I don't understand this Ingram goes inside mcDuffie's coming outside would look at their wall so three and out for after the first down by Parmalee and moreno forest straight Haase and the other end Cicero Arnold [Music] 50 yards net 30 I'm come the Raiders tied at 17 with 526 left a reminder next Sunday we invite you to join us for our continuing NFL coverage NFL live at 12:30 most Greg Gumbel our team of Super Bowl champion coaches dipkin Gibbs and co-host Ahmad Rashad we'll keep you updated on all the breaking NFL news Reeves and Marcus Allen will be the featured interviews and there are the games Pittsburgh the Giants Seattle Kansas City early Denver San Diego our big late game [Applause] [Music] lady Browne bumps him out after a four yard [Music] and he's got his shoulder bandaged and his ankle iced that ankle is from the surgery he had with the pin in it put in out and really slowed down his progress this summer but came in with a so our shoulder played well along with Gerry bald [Applause] second six for us the safety plan right the line of scrimmage what a hit [Applause] and Ichabod second down in considerable yardage and you give it to the full-back Romo this is a tailback oriented offense that was a fine hit by Michael Stewart he'll hit anybody he's not particularly third wide-receiver Hobbs in [Applause] when they need the money he takes him to the bank seven yards in a first down Tim Brown JB Brown mob-related makes the tackle Brown runs to delay outside watch it goes inside comes back outside Brown Kent white stay with him just enough for the first now taking no chances with a win altering the path a choice he has the only offensive touchdown today for the Raiders the other came on Anthony Smith 25 [Music] Chris Singleton Frank VC there as well it looks like Jim Brown again on the bench suffering from leg cramps certainly a guy that they want and need here he comes in he's walked running rather gingerly they're hit you can get dehydrated down in this heat and humidity and then once those cramps start very hard to stop them before the game is it's a shocking statistic but of all the men who have played quarterback in the fourth quarter in the league this year 40 of them Hostetler is 40th this has been his worst dismal change here he gets down at the 46 yard line 14 more for the Raiders he's in the slot and when you're in the when Tim Brown is in the slot that's the tough work guys you got to come across the middle nice move again Troy Vincent but it looks looks like legs cramping up again couldn't really continue to run Hostetler hit again altering the linebacker ticking down two and a half minutes left tied at 17 field goal would be now Hostetler uses his last timeout that's all three have been spent by the Raiders there we'll take a break with 224 remaining at Joe Robbie 17 all all of famer art she'll barking into that telephonic device this is a most important two-and-a-half minutes for the Los Angeles Raiders they'll leave Miami well back into the hunt for the Super Bowl show calling this the best team that al Davis has ever given him or they'll leave three and three in the fourth quarter this year moreno ranked fourth in terms of production for touchdowns no interceptions and Hostetler 40 out of 40 hard to believe Wow that is absolutely amazing - I still wear one of those that you would consider to have a great quarter in the fourth quarter first in town 46 we give to her [Applause] 47 of Miami of the cup of seven Aubrey beavers made the stop good blocking out in front of Harvey Williams Glover the tight in Wisniewski 76 on the pull wrap and night nice block on Chris Singleton nice pickup Harvey Williams and that is the two-minute timeout during the timeout dan turn the snapper on field goals and kicker jeff yeager go out to check go what hash mark is that what he said right hash mark for the right hook [Music] second whoa stripped of the ball but he picks up the first down at the 43 Annie use their timeouts Thaksin beavers make the stop [Music] [Applause] a gain of maybe a yard or two Troy Vincent he's going to if they gave stickers on your helmet for your effort we're doing colleges he'd have dolphins all over that white thing 42 yards Larry Webster Webster got his myth Webster playing in there because of cling vials knee injury 79 is the man who gets his hand up he's playing on the left guard Wisniewski it's a good push 10 does get his head up yes look like it was intended for Harvey Williams out here in the flat stops the clock 48 seconds left this is the down [Applause] that's the chance of getting the butter and giving the Raiders the ball I wouldn't think so [Applause] I swear a great kick by gossipy angles that the thought 10-yard line Raiders can't stop the clock so [Applause] to do is kneel down and we go to overtime [Applause] why surely [Applause] it's only a yard game into the arms of Greg beaker fans booing but that Center when you're on your own 10-yard line and you only have seconds left you wanna gamble and force a mistake meanwhile Rathman and Williams and company are going to be punching into overtime that's the last play of regulation we'll stay here to us [Music] [Applause] the first overtime contest for these two teams this year regulation over at 17 so what's in reviewing this game the greater defense the offense frustrated marina all day and be able to find enough and got controversial call on [Music] fumble Poseidon score the tying touchdown [Music] [Applause] both on receivers Jeff decided it he's caught in the air tails he says it is a head that point right over there [Applause] when we return watch his team kick it off and hope that he'll get a chance to win it in OT time Rathmann hope they get a chance but it's the Dolphins who will receive the kickoff as we open overtime and a storm well the wind may not have been a factor for the Dolphins and the coin toss because actually the wind is not blowing from end to end in the stadium it's coming across this way in the top of the stadium and on the field it's coming down this way toward the Raider sideline where I'm standing but the advantage for the dolphins is that the new rules kicking off in the 30 you're just going to figure to get so much better feel kids right it does change the overtime period dramatically the whim knocks the ball off the tee [Applause] Raiders more successful through the years in overtime [Applause] - this season is minimal but field [Applause] Sager sends it high to the fire Duffy runs into his own locker and down at the 23-yard line 48 [Applause] these two young linebackers be Curt and Fredriksson have both played beautifully not just to David on the earlier stage of the season here's beaker fills from the inside out to stop this run watch Frederickson take on Keith Byars stands him up it's beaker and he's only 235 pounds but he plays a big another overtime game [Applause] get that fall through [Music] [Applause] definitive you got [Applause] good sound block by Keith Jackson Sims poll 69 again Keith Byars he runs through the tackle of Hoskins what a game this kid has had not only carrying the ball he also knocks get out of the game with a hit he recovers a fumble and everything for the dolphins today Harley with a and Terry Kirby Adam earlier first time in a law [Music] that covers 13 years since the last I see there at 2:30 they need at least they got to get to the 20 that's 37 yards in this unstable win here at Joey he said Jagger had to get the 25 42 is he got a better lead Martin Gore I think that end it favors you this end you're going to be more against it even though as Hannah said coming across [Applause] to be Chester McLaughlin is out of that defensive front for the Raiders runs away from ball inside nolan Harrison excellent job of blocking by the Miami Dolphin offensive line Jeff Kellen Bakken Baker [Applause] they had them to their knees I think the Raiders wearing out the heat humidity calmly for carries 36 yards he's taken kept all the art ajahn this drive other than the one pass 15 [Applause] who is this kid specialties clear basically out of the beginning the season until [Applause] [Music] quite an insurance policy first down just inside the Raider 17 now what's point blank range in Don Shula's mind repeat play out of it he's a big factor not being in there McLaughlin parmalee's out and mark Hicks comes in [Applause] they give us the fires and he takes a wallop from Derek Hoskins and Winston moss [Music] and Sheila's mine they're a CPA do I go for it down and not risk a fumble risk a turnover here rmally exhausted what a career Berni farm I'm not sure if I'm Miami time out here just to get formally arrested back in the lineup it's still in there maybe they've decided this is far enough so I oughta which hashmark be wanted [Applause] going third that can case of a mistake he gives you a chance there good take a second shot at a field goal looks at his kicker and his assistant coaches did you see Moreno just voting you want it between the hash marks to stay out of it this is far enough [Applause] and the merino ionized is he was motioning to Shuler you want to kick it on this down on the next down now they're gonna call the time they're gonna be sure [Applause] in overtime [Applause] the Raiders have had no chance Miami's got a great chance to win [Applause] how frustrating must it be you relinquish the lead you go into overtime a long struggle so much on the line so much has happened today and maybe you don't even get a chance to play in overtime on offense [Music] and dick I think your point about where they kick the ball off now you get such good field position you really don't have to establish field position in the overtime period although here they started from their 22 Miami good distance 63 yards [Music] [Applause] down to second and nine inside the 15 we wanted on the left hash mark obviously I call here he comes the clutch to 12 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for the Raiders last week of penalty against Andrew Glover against the New England Patriots going to change that game yeah he's [Applause] it'll be teed up just inside the 20 29 yard attempt force Toyota tapioca normally flickers with the pressure and the wind sure but you've got Jim Arnold as the holder thing I'm sure Shuler's told Arnold is that if there's any problem with the snap or any difficulty just swallow it kneel on and we still got another chance on fourth down remember this is the third down play snapper is Delon Bachman excellent excellent field goal snapper so the Dolphins if successful they go five and two sole possession of first in the AFC's [Applause] he's telling it blind you don't let him jump [Applause] breaking laws for the Los Angeles Raiders [Applause] game packed with deep emotion in tents at times former high school all-star teammates Dan Marino and Jeff Hostetler know best of all story on events set up on the left hash mark drills it down the middle his reputation toughen the clutch and he proves that once again Jim Arnold had the best view [Applause] dan Marino worked hard for this when that one of his prettiest games 17 for 37 but what counts is that Big W they're going to hang up in the Monday morning standings meanwhile the Raiders as you said that trip home on that big 747 I would guess there gonna be a lot of little meeting did a lot of talking agree and perhaps even one big meeting [Applause] a tough one for our chills team they go to and for did not have a chance in overtime Hall of Fame coach a Hall of Fame owner [Applause] better than any words Miami prevails in overtime we'll be right back to Joe Robbie we're back with the employee owners of Avis saluting the game's most valuable player number 30 of the Miami Dolphins Bernie Parmalee rushed for a hundred and fifty yards today the seventh best in Miami Dolphin history Parmalee there was a free agent picked three years ago by Don Shula said the kid just hustles all the time he's the kind of man I want on my team he had great foresight Parmalee in Miami have won in overtime 22:17 coming up next on NBC don't miss the exciting conclusion of the Skills Challenge as eight of golf's top players continue their competition short game iron shots bunker shots and pudding so for Bob trumpian Hannah Storm I'm Dick Enberg saying so long from Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami Florida this has been a presentation of NBC Sports in our 30th year of covering the NFL [Music]
