cars coming up behind him but see how far it is that group cars in front of him and then they've got that far behind the group cards behind him so he's not getting much Dale Jarrett Jimmy Spencer they'll change tires respect you know they can make it on one more fuel stop if they've run all the fuel out this in there thanks but they're gonna come in do some tires let's go to John Kernan on pit road for the call and pit stop Mike be manure awaiting talking it over and decided to go either right side tires left side tires now they will go with left sides only as the crew goes to work fill it up with gasoline as you said they'll have to make at least one more stop maybe Allison is also in and he's away baby must have just taken on fuel sterling into work continuing now he is fitting to down pit road let's go down further to pit road if our partners business Jerry Park Jack the left side um but taking the left rear tire no forego trying to open the battery compartment the battery now as a small of the morbid it's in front of the left rear tire they wanted to happen here um about is that the alternator has been working normally the gates as they have a tire rolling loose on pit road a lot of activity down here a flurry should read about 14 volts on the alternator Delta it has been working the gauge for it reading 10 volts nine bulbs and it was draining the battery then they all center equipped that's those clapping they put a fresh battery in and they should get into the end of the race to go out to work on the alternator problem next week but obviously costing some time it could have been a lot worse for Mark Martin that the cost should not come out they were waiting to get a caution and not lose a lap now they are sitting in the pits the old battery is out Steve male working in the left rear wheel well trying to get the new battery in getting the plate put back getting it taped in position the cables on and Mark Martin just quite survived without losing the last as the pace car now in turn Creek they are almost finished footage of battery in the car and the fouling team a winner just one week ago may catch a break here at Talladega top the pace car is moving course rather slowly get about 80 miles an hour through the third and fourth turn both I'm sure that fans would see and say hey when I made the little knot for the battery of them under the hood in a different place will be ignored what is the case of a crash they can protect it some but more than Danna puts that way too that bad right back there on the left side here the rear of the car tough motor oil setting up a Winston Cup car on a Speedway can be extremely difficult because the rules limit what you can do in years past if you wanted to change the downforce on the back of the car you could manipulate the spoiler upper back but now the rules significantly limit your access to spoiler movement so what many of the crews have decided to do is change the front of the car in something called bender tuck let me show you what I mean this rod here attaches from the fender to the frame there are five holes here on a plate welded to the defender so you can actually adjust the rod forward a quarter of an inch which will bow the fender out if you turn the fender out it catches more air in the front of the car or stalls more air as the term is used creating more downforce all in front of the car and making the rear of the car looser and vice-versa if you pull the rod back you're bringing the fenders in allowing air to slip by cleanly less downforce up front and making the car tighter so a minor adjustment here in the fender tuck can have a major impact on a car's handling on a Speedway quick lesson there in the aerodynamics from dr. punch and our track pack just giving Spencer Spencer was going up and these guys chose not to pit yep he decided selling the race does not give up that track position forward tires were able to the tires are good enough they can run 60 70 laps on still run wide open so they stay on the racetrack 19 cars in the lead lap but it's the Rick mast come into the 50 is currently 19th year mental Kalu's don't wait when they come down they will complete lap 179 and that means there will be nine more laps to go and obviously at least one more of those will be under caution wait laps of green flag racing to decide if this guy wins it he's got two legs up on the Winston millions right and a hundred thousand five hundred in the bank and another two chances to pick up another $900,000 coca-cola 600 Chara and the southern 500 the high in southern 500 one of those two well there's Elmo and he is driving the pace car and they have just signaled that the next time Elmo will pull off and we will go back to green but we do have time to 25th and 26th through 34 Rudd Marcos Hillen Darrell Waltrip and Bob sack and then 31st through 35th in today's event Buddy Baker Jimmy Spencer who had that exciting ride down the backstretch the car nearly flipped over but didn't then Stanley Smith Jimmy means in Greg sacks then finishing 36 through 40 Terry Labonte he didn't have a very good debut in the Ford Charlie glutes back crashed wasn't you feeling I feel good you know the car the seat got real hot before you know we run so long under green air and I told you know I said the first stop somebody sprayed me down with water and I've had this situation out before you know and your body just gets too hot you just start getting sticky inside and I started feeling real bad and I told them if they'd spray me down and just pack ice in my check in my lap here you know to where it just cool a seat off around me because you know with with me in the car I'm so long leg and sitala got to move the seat back and down and it gets it on the floor and against the roll cage all that stuff does is just radiates heat back in me and then you end up sitting in a frying pan basically and you know I've been in this situation before like in the mailing cars and I don't much like it but you know you got to live with it after a good run a medium-rare Bill Elliott here at Talladega having a good effort here and a good finish here in the
