do you have a dime in your pocket worth over $57,000 maybe you do let's find out in this video hey youtubers this is J&B and welcome to our JB coins family we're all about coins and currency we have new videos every day and we're here to help you either start your new collection expand an existing one or find that one valuable coin that can change your life this video is about Roosevelt dimes worth money and in this video we will cover dimes from the 1990s you should be looking for now in the 1990s the US Mint struck dimes at the Philadelphia Mint they will bear a P mint mark at the Denver Mint they will have a D mint mark and at West Point mint yes a very special decade it doesn't happen very often but they struck dimes at the West Point mint and they will bear a W mint mark and let's talk about them for a second here before we move on to the last mint that struck Roosevelt dimes in the 1990s which is the San Francisco mint the West Point mint struck dimes during that decade in 1996 the 1996 W Roosevelt dime is the first United States dime which contained a W mint mark these coins were produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt dime series the coins were only sold as part of a special 11 coin mint set which was also released in 1996 they don't have any special finish but since they were sold all min sets and not released into circulation they're technically not a business struck coins they were struck in clad composition however they're very collectible because of the W mint mark now in the highest grades they are worth around $200 this coin graded by PCGS graded M s 68f be sold in May of this year for a hundred and fifty five dollars now FB for new folks to the Hobby is the designation assigned to a coin when it has a full band on the torch on the reverse side of the dime it always brings extra money to a coins value the description of the PCGS full bands designation for roosevelt's requires that both the upper and lower pair of bands on the torch be distinct and show full separation the line dividing the bands must be complete and unbroken you can see it in this picture with that being said let's move on to proof coins struck in the San Francisco mint burying the S mint mark these coins will also have a shiny finish so recognizing them is easy proof Roosevelt dimes from the 1990s were all struck in very good quality which is usually typical for proof coins what is also interesting about dimes from this decade is that the San Francisco mint struck coins in clad and silver composition in 1992 the mint introduced a new silver proof set that contained an example of each coin that was in circulation and continued through the rest of the 1990s so you shouldn't find a silver dime struck in 1990 or 1991 but if you do he would hit the jackpot because at this point it would be an error coin and again for new folks an error coin is very simply described as a coin that was minted incorrectly by the mint it's a coin that has some sort of mistake on it now how to know if you have a silver dime for example if you have a 1992 s Roosevelt dime but the San Francisco mint struck dimes and clad and silver composition that year right well there are two very easy ways to distinguish them one is by the pink edge on clad coins versus a silvery edge on silver dimes the other is weighing them a clad Roosevelt dime should weigh two point two seven grams on average now if you're weighing a coin and it's weighing slightly more or less it's most likely in the allowable range the silver coin should weigh two point 500 grams but since as we said all of the dimes with clad or silver composition were struck with good quality and enlarged mintages they're not scarce and are bringing about $20 on average in the highest grades so now let's talk about valuable times business strike times minted for circulation in the 1990s circulation strike Roosevelt dimes began to be in much nicer quality than in previous years but there are a few exceptions to this rule and those exceptions will be what you need to look for there are three years where in some mints the Roosevelt dimes were struck with poor quality we will go in order of years so it's easier for you to remember the first year to look for is 1993 and the coin struck in the Denver Mint is what you need to look for the 1990 3d or Denver Roosevelt dimes however were not struck well and examples in M s 66 appeared to be very scarce especially with the full bands designation so what you need to look for is coins at least in grade M s 66 and up and this coin in grade M s 66 full bands sold for $700 the next year you need to look for is 1998 and you're looking for coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint this time with the P mint mark on them the same rule applies here and the coin you see in this picture sold recently for 895 dollars and the last year is 1999 and you're looking for coins struck at the Denver Mint and this coin that you see in this picture sold for 1610 dollars not bad for a dime now searching dime rolls or mint sets is your best option to finding these coins and of course remember these special dates to look for and remember always always check your change not for coins and super high grades but for errors most of the valuable errors that are being found are being found in change in circulation in pockets if you see a coin in your change that looks odd or different put it aside and check it later some of them are very obvious and very valuable like this one for example it is a 1996 P dime it's double struck the first strike is off-center then it was struck again and it struck on a 1995 diam planchet and it's great at au 58 only au 58 that's a very low grade a coin that you can easily find in your change now look at this coins condition with very weak details on it but this amazing error sold for an amazing two thousand seventy dollars not bad for a dime you can find in your change huh but wait how about if you find this coin this wild looking coin has a Roosevelt dime reverse and a penny obverse in order to know that you have an error you actually would need to look at both sides of the coin look at the pictures it's easy to spot but if someone wouldn't look at both sides of the coin they wouldn't have a clue the official designation by the grading company is 1995 Roosevelt dime muled with cent obverse now again for new folks a mule coin is a coin that the obverse and reverse in other words the head and tail were not intended by the mint to be struck together they belong to two different coins how wild is that but wait for the sold price of this error are you ready $57,500 super amazing profit for a dime that you can find in your change or is it a penny that's the cool thing always check your change always check your change and check both sides of every coin so we hope you liked this video and found it helpful and if you did please like share and subscribe so we can create more videos for you also if you want to know which other coins are known muled coins worth unreal money please watch our short playlist we have linked in the upper left corner of this one see
