what's going on guys welcome to the program welcome to currency world at some point or another I'm sure all of you have heard someone used the phrase it's not worth a dime to imply how cheap or worthless something is well today's video will provide the best rebuttal to these negative nancies in today's video we will be counting down the 10 most valuable modern-era dimes commonly referred to as roosevelt dimes as they feature the 30 second President of the United States Franklin D Roosevelt before we get into it don't forget to smash that like button subscribe and tell your friends about currency world where we discuss everything coins and currency okay guys let's jump in [Music] kicking off this list at number 10 we have the 1982 Roosevelt dime with no mint mark you guys may remember this coin from another top ten list we did on currency world on the most valuable coins that can still be found in circulation once you guys are done watching this video go check that one out if you have not already there will be a link above and also in the description down below as many of you know most US coins have a mint mark denoting the city they were minted in in 1982 the Philadelphia mint seems to have forgot about putting their mint mark on some of their Roosevelt dimes it is not exactly clear as to how many of these coins were released into circulation but it is widely considered one of the rarest dimes to ever be released into circulation if you are in Sandusky Ohio or are visiting Cedar Point to enjoy the rollercoasters there you should be particularly vigilant as about ten thousand of these dimes were given out as change at Cedar Point Amusement Park if you're lucky enough to find one of these dimes you will likely be able to cover a day at an amusement park for you and for some of your friends and family as they can be worth as much as three hundred to four hundred dollars next up on our list at number nine we have an entire class of error dimes you'll want to look out for I am talking about Roosevelt dimes missing clad layers as some of you coin enthusiasts out there might know most modern US coins are made up of different layers of metals known as clads the easiest way to spot these errors is to observe both sides of the coin and Roosevelt dimes one side will appear to be copper or oxidized metal while the other side will appear completely normal as you can see in the pictures right here these errors can be worth as much as $500 plus depending on condition at number eight we have another class of Roosevelt dimes you will want to look out for I am talking about any Roosevelt dimes with rainbow toning identifying these coins is relatively easy because as their name implies they will exhibit a rainbow coloring this coloring is typically the result of oxidation or other imperfections in the metal reacting with their surroundings if you happen to find a Roosevelt dime or any other coin for that matter in decent condition with rainbow toning you'll want to save it as it could be worth a nice chunk of change rainbow tone Roosevelt dimes have sold for as much as $1,000 I guess it's true what they say about there being a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow and lucky for you in this case you don't need to battle any leprechauns to claim it at number 7 we have another relatively recent error coin it is the 2002 San Francisco Mint reverse cap dye graded proof cameo 64 for those of you wondering what a cap dye air is it is an error that is caused when the coin sticks to the dye which in turn strikes the dye again or another coin causing a reverse design or other similar distortion these are oftentimes referred to as mushroom airs or bottle caps because of their similarity and shape to these particular objects as you guys can observe from these pictures this coin sold on Heritage Auctions in 2002 for an astonishing one thousand three hundred and eighty dollars although this particular example is relatively rare as far as these airs go and in very high grade you guys should look through all your dimes for kept dye errors as they will always be worth a hefty premium at number six we have the 1971 San Francisco mint no mint mark error in the 1970s and the 1980s the mints produced a number of batches of Roosevelt dimes with no mint mark you guys should generally be on the lookout for dimes from this time period with no mint mark and that is because these coins can command an impressive premium over face value in average proof grades these coins can go for five hundred dollars plus however this 71 example graded proof 69 cameo by PCGS sold for an impressive four thousand one hundred and forty dollars I bet you guys wish you had one of these laying around up next at number five we have the 1970 Roosevelt dime from the San Francisco mint with no mint mark here we have yet another dime from the San Francisco mint with no mint mark this proof example of the 1917 no mint mark Roosevelt dime in perfect deep cameo grade sold first staggering five thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars Wow at number four on our list is the 1965 silver diamond terror officially the United States Mint stopped producing silver dimes in 1964 however a batch of these coins must have been produced by mistake in 1965 as a result these coins are extremely rare and only a few have been found the best way to tell whether you have a silver die as opposed to a copper nickel clad dime is by weighing the coin silver dies will be slightly heavier and will way to point five grams the copper clad dimes which are more common will weigh two point two seven grams you can also observe the copper core edge on most clad dimes if you happen to find a silver one from this year it will be worth an excess of $9,000 depending on condition up next at number 3 we have this 1983 proof dime with no mint mark this is yet another one of those dimes I talked about earlier that was minted without a mint mark from the San Francisco mint you guys might be seeing a pattern by now these know mint mark coins from the 70s and 80s are the ones to look for especially if you guys have any proof sets locked up in your attic somewhere one of these was auctioned off in 2014 for just over $10,000 Wow guys we're really starting to get into the big money now the second most valuable Roosevelt dime ever sold is the 1968 San Francisco mint dime with no mint mark there is not much more I can say about this one except to say that these no mint mark dimes dominate the top of this list this example from 1968 graded proof 68 sold for a whopping forty eight thousand eight hundred and seventy-five dollars Wow we did it guys we finally reached number one the most valuable Roosevelt dime ever sold to date is the 1975 no s proof Roosevelt dime this is yet another dime from the San Francisco mint with no mint mark in 1975 all United States proof coins were produced at the San Francisco mint and thus have an S mint mark well almost all that is is believed that only two coins escaped with no mint mark coin experts speculate that MIT workers accidentally prepare to die with no mint mark but allegedly the mint destroyed all the coins without the S mint mark two however are known to have survived even given the extreme rarity of this particular dime variety it is still mind-blowing to think that this one sold for three hundred forty nine thousand six hundred dollars when it was auctioned off in 2011 who would have thought that a dime could buy you a nice house or that car of your dreams so there you have it
