have to leave the Browns they have the option here of a recheck we're taking it as a 35 they'll take it half the 35 yard line last week as you see three touchdown passes in the game against Dallas a game in which the Browns incredibly did not pick up one rushing first down that's the first time it happened in the history of the franchise finer and Manoa started the running back Langhorne and slaughter is back after eight weeks on injured reserve and there is the offensive line at the 35 yard line finer is flicked to the right and we'll see him lined up all over Manoa Stadium to block and by the cash and he's tackled at the 44 yard line he is not only to be there features running back tonight he is also the team's leading receiver for earnest Byner coming out of the backfield at his 48th catch of the year Turner soshe and Kline up front in the dolphin three-man line the four linebackers Marc Brown comes off suspension a late hit on Pantera he was gone last week offers all having a good year Green back from an injuries and the secondary and it's been a problem but Jarvis Williams the rookie at free safety has been pleasant surprise second and one from the 44 and in his monologue picking up a first down chuckling he controlled the firmly no blade and he gives the ball to Miami he did that against Denver anything since because of that fumble and tonight on his first carry he costs the ball up to Miami and manoah's fumble previously came on his first carry of the ball game as well so Tim Manoa his fourth fumble of the year and Marty Schottenheimer I think will put Tim Manoa on the bench it may be awhile Franklin he's back in this ballgame because in this caliber ballgame that can't happen early interestingly you saw on the replay he had it covered up I'm sure he was thinking about that Denver fumble both hands on it somebody just yanked it out of there TJ Turner knocked it loose and Jarvis Williams recovered Miami at the 50 it's Lorenzo Hampton stopped for no gain Bryan Washington comes up to make the stop another look now at manoa stumble and see opera doll is right there taken on the block big hold up on the left side lift both hands have covered up opera del gets a shoulder in there and it wasn't that much of a blow but if ball came out of there even though he was trying to cover it up you know you're right Frank that's what I'll drive the coaches crazy is that was really a minimal hit that brought the ball loose you can understand it when a guy puts his helmet right on the ball with a jarring hint hey anybody's gonna bubble we're gonna do too much good for manoah's mind either that wasn't much second intent from the 15 and a first down on a bullet to mark Clayton and with that catch Clayton now has 73 for the season tying his own team Warren have to marvel every time though you're watching if you're counting in seconds this is about two and a half seconds before that ball is released not bad coverage and yet with that accuracy the quick release Moreno gets it in there is pacy Mark Clayton with his route force Frank Minnifield really making contact with his own man Brian Washington who is covering the man out of the backfield effective pass route by Miami so he ties his own mark set in the Super Bowl season of 84 at the first down to poof [Applause] so is nowhere the other thing that Clayton did was he caught a fan in the 37th consecutive game and that is a new Miami record let's set the Miami offense right now led of course by Dan Marino and in a season in which so many quarterbacks have been racked up Moreno has stayed very very healthy and has not been sacked in over two months Hampton and Davenport the running backs thanks thanks super spot Leighton the other why not Farrell Evans the food looking rookie tight end and Galbreath a good-looking rookie at right guard and an otherwise veteran offensive line second at the 38-yard line [Applause] since we've dropped by Clayton right there for him he looks right with the cut bridge third down and a really on the back hip a pass to Clayton ordinarily would have caught I'm sure he would agree with that but again Marino just a little behind Clayton but again is one two three and that ball is on his way that's why he has not been sacked and Tim game the tough catch good one you'd have to say that Clayton will catch it get a good look at that because that was an excellent look at the Cleveland Browns and something other than man-to-man coverage you saw Frank Minnifield lined up one plate and dropped back into his zone responsibilities I think the Browns would like to see a little zone tonight I mean the Dolphins rather would like to see some Brown zone third and nine with four wide receivers out of the shotgun and Marino goes cheap he put too deep for Freddie banks the former Brown who had gotten behindhand prediction but the past led him too much and it's fourth down at the 38 yard line he was there and I'm sure we'll see it again to what Marty Schottenheimer told us last night holds so true he knows to to get to Dan Marino is almost impossible so is either going to send three men and try to cover or he says occasionally we'll come in six and seven and try to get to it and he's trying to hurry because no one this year is getting to Dan Marino only seven sacks all season for the moment they line up as if to attempt a 56 yard field goal why he's been taking his vitamins if he makes this yep we'll find out it's actually 55 and a half and he comes up about two and a half died little more vitamin D breaths C&D as well [Applause] dolphins can't cash in on the Browns turnover Cleveland ball now at its own 38 yard line Pantanal and finer are the running back as Kosar goes to the air be Newson the tight-end and Ozzy has now made a catch in a hundred 42 consecutive games behind only Steve Largent sometimes Ozzie Newsome has needed a catch like this to keep that streak alive and one of the big questions in Cleveland is whether or not this is going to be Ozzie Newsome to last year and I think that that's smart starts the ball game off early getting the ball this guy is still capable of being a productive member of the receiving corps I think for the game last week in Dallas a superb leaping cats to keep a drive going a lot of football still left and Ozzie Newsome find out early dammit they're going to cover him with the linebacker and they did they have you green on him it will see him again second in seven Viners through the middle and a first down as Ernest moves after the 50 yard line he stopped by the outside linebacker Rick Rath number 99 you know how we put up that graphic a minute ago about the brownies and them having a winning record and not having been to the Super Bowl kind of a good news bad news good news scenario for Cleveland this year the good news is is they have it in their destiny to make the playoffs the bad news is it's going to have to be as a wild-card team but the good news for Cleveland is that Denver isn't going to be in the playoffs this year because Denver the last two years have sent the brownies home with some superb football Washington both eliminated yesterday first time ever both Super Bowl participants failed to make the playoffs the next year looking forth in more and the pants is complete and we'll see about forward progress as it appears it's just short of the first down the catch made by Brian Brennan it'll be second down in about a half a yard oh what a beautiful pass by Kosar against william Jetson who had perfect position on Brennan Brennan's not fast he's a possession receiver and jetsam was all over him now watch this Jetson covers him right like a blanket hooking him a little bit lazing to the outside that ball is in the air right there it was in the air actually before he broke to the outside and so with a map to a free play on second down and inches with slaughter in the game for the first [Applause] to the left and Kosar will take advantage of this free play to go deep for Pantanal with much to do and he was well covered on the play it'll be third down but Brown with the coverage on Herman Fontenot the good look there of Bernie Kosar thinking that Fontenot is going to make his break back to the outside but you're right the good coverage by but Brown prevented at and in a stadium that has normally been filled with Dan Marino's footballs flying everywhere Bernie Kosar I think taking the Dolphins a little bit by surprise going to the aerial game early I think a lot of people thought the Browns will just try to hammer it at the Dolphins who are somewhat susceptible to the run but instead its toes are throwing in a way he's coming home Bernie a great star at the University of Miami third down and a short yard and Byner team find that George yard who proved a little too long and it's going to be fourth and inches as TJ Turner helps to bottle above good play by Turner that time penetration is the key on short yardage bottom of your screen watch TJ Turner fight crews stay down on all fours and get up just high enough to make the tackle and against it forest defense of miami 26 in the league against the rush party shot dimer is going to go early here on fourth down and he brings manoa back in as they pull back in the eye with Byner the tailback and since Baccano in motion to provide leverage on the left side and through the middle he goes and doesn't have it Ernest Byner racked up by PJ Turner [Applause] defensive line and listen to the crowd at Joe Robbie Stadium they have not seen a short yardage stand like this in a while they enjoy it again its penetration which side of the line of scrimmage is this game being played on a good look of him not going offside the lead block Manoa Viner not even close Miami winning the war up front is high above Joe Robbie Stadium is Miami which will be the site of the Super Bowl on the 22nd of January six weeks from yesterday Miami taking over holding on down first down dolphins at their own 41 yard line Marino to throw and the cash is made on the far side by Fredy Bank he's the man taking the spot normally occupied by mark Cooper he began his career with the Browns in 1985 laid most of it on injured reserve started five games for Cleveland 85 and injured again in 86 they waived demons Miami picked him up he has a lot of moves he has a lot of speed and great leaping ability sits into the mold of the dolphin receivers Clayton the duper's 510 180 founders Clayton bottom of the screen he's having a fabulous year that's Jensen now coming into the slot as Edmonds the tight end lines up on the left side the ball is given to Ron Davenport Davenport's been coming on over late he's played well over the past three or four weeks after a very slow start this year Clay Matthews in on the tackle and we have him isolated Clay Matthews of course I think anyone the finals Cleveland realized the Matthews is playing Provo caliber football I could say once again they are using play much more against the past as a matter of fact he is that six of the Cleveland facts well he's in there much more often and he's been in the past second and I Miami at the Cleveland 46 no score and porn again and racked up behind the line of scrimmage by will Hill the safety coming through the free agent out of Bishop College will Hill dropping them behind the line of scrimmage and a marker is down or first one of the game this crew led by the referee deckhand tack and will get the call from him in a moment we have delayed on the defense 12 men on the field we have holding on the offense number 65 Hilary's are all set repeat the down second down 12 men on the field and then Delon box the guilty dolphin and they repeat the down coming back but holding three times against Indianapolis last week and I'm not sure the will Hill might not have been to 12th on the field he was lying early free was up on the line of scrimmage yeah he certainly was unaccounted for as far as the dolphins were concerned will they enroll men on that plate on a punt run back last week they had nine guys on the field the 12 induces in with yes second and nine in the case of a by Rod Davenport who has a first down at the 36 yard line the tackle made by Felix right otherwise you would have had 10 or 15 more yards once again that offensive line just first they do they take a quick drop and then they just blow up into the Russia's face and they get Marino just two three seconds and he does release a good look at in here watch this offensive line of the Miami Dolphins they are leading the league with only seven sacks of the quarterback now that is not only on face to lead the league this year that is on pace to become the all-time best in the National Football League I'll give you a little more on it after the play birthday Sam from the 35-yard line and Moreno throws it away it'll be second down 10 Dan Marino coming into tonight's ballgame and throwing the ball 525 times he's only been sacked six times one of their sex came against Ron Jaworski who's fully thrown the ball four times and got sacked one of those four times the NFL record as you can see shared by the Cardinals of 75 and the 49ers of 1970 is eight games now those were in 14 games season and nobody threw the ball anywhere near the amount of times that Marino has thrown it's an incredible statistic well they told me about the Cardinals in 75 and the catch is made by Clayton on second and 10 with the nifty footwork he has the first down of the 22 at Cardinal of 75 team they were able to do that mainly because of doble are in banks they tell me yeah well needless to say the people you've been talking to as a hallmark of your career don't know what's going on take that Conrad hi I'm going to guess that in the year that we had eight sacks the Jimmy Hart threw the ball somewhere in the 300 here we have Dan Marino who will end up the season who knows maybe close to 600 at 10 and to stop and think that they're on a pace seven sacks for the year in my it really boggles the mind and over 4000 yards first down at the 21 yard line a Roman just push back after a gain of a yard or so just by Dave Grayson of course there run blocking is parts of concern when we talk to Don Shula this morning the dolphins incredibly averaging less than 74 yards a game running the football I can remember as a player 150 yards a game was always your goal it was something you wanted to achieve because you knew if you ran it for 150 yards you were controlling it you're eating up the clock less than 74 is really unacceptable second and eight 19 yard line five came to play first quarter no sore no rosin off the fingertip to the tight end Farrell Edmonds the good-looking rookie from Maryland and he can fly they brace and covering third down the true Dan would you say though an offensive line like the Miami Dolphins like any offensive line two blocks well they blocked well in the scheme for the Miami Dolphins and that is to pass the football Dan Marino they're not necessarily good run blockers it's a it's a different technique a different style all together no and I'm going to add one more thing about what the Dolphins have done this is after the loss of Dwight Stevenson one of the great centers that ever played the game of football and the leader of this football team who hasn't played all season third down and eight at the 19 yard line and Moreno fires over the Scot waiting on ice coverage by Brian Washington Brian Washington the strong safety of the Browns right there well a good coverage good timing and anticipation by Washington look at the delivery it's right there and he makes contact with ladies the moment the ball gets there and disrupts it this is a marvelous secondary for the Cleveland Browns Dixon Minnifield right and Washington that's as good a secondary as there is in the league two corners on the way to the Pro Bowl now reveille who missed a 55-yard er this one is deflected wide Sourav ages old for to dolphin can't capitalize after an early turnover on the Manoa fumble and good field position here and Cleveland gets the ball back with 454 to play in a scoreless first quarter off the hand of st. Clancy Chris Epps water with a broken forearm early in the season it's the first time he's been in the game in almost two months he hurt himself on the 16th of October and you could see that big pad that he still wears on his left forearm and that is a handicap for a wide receiver but Webster slaughter a big play kind of receiver and a guy the bronze very much need at this time of the season but it'll be interesting to see how that affects his ability to control the football once he gets near it he comes out john timer saying yesterday he wants him in there for about a dozen plays tonight Langhorne and whether to the wide receivers on second and 10 and pocket all goes in motion law to find her and he turned what would have been a lost into a 4-yard game back to the 24 yard line it will be third and six four and a half minutes to go in the first quarter well as you look at Mike Singletary the Chicago Bears have already clinched as you know the NFC Central they go to the Metrodome next Monday night as we wrap up the regular season the Bears and the Minnesota Vikings to top teams in the NFC Central Vikings Believe It or Not have not mathematically clinched a wild card berth and before you get too upset in the Twin Cities there's almost no way they won't go but they have not mathematically clinched third and six as the catch is made by minor to the 35 yard line e is stopped there by Stephen Fry when you start getting into the tie breakers keep the Vikings out you get into earthquakes well before anybody has a heart attack in Minnesota about five different things would have to happen where the Vikings not to get in including the Vikings losing by about 50 points to the Bears and the Eagles beating Dallas by 50 and that sort of thing something something tells me after Sunday's loss to the Packers no one in Minneapolis st. Paul is going to take anything for granted right who would have thunk escy he congratulations though - Lindy Infante in his Packard first time Cleveland at the 35-yard line [Applause] those are those underneath the new semi making the second catch of the game and takes it to the 40-yard line that's a gain of close to five it'll be second and five Rick grant has been on the stop about that throwing motion of Bernie Kosar when he first released the ball there I I thought he was throwing it in the ground getting rid of it to try to avoid taking a set the sidearm delivery of Bernie Kosar it is not textbook only the results seem to be textbook 5 of 7 we'll get it done second and six leave one at the 42 and a half minutes to go in the first quarter no school [Applause] Langhorne and motion those are under preference tax at the 33 yard line by Brian Roche dolphins coming with the Blitz form in out for the crown not enough bin to pick up those shape in the middle opera doll coming from the linebacker position when you go into that wide formation let's take a look at it here this is not Bernie Kosar strength strength and as a matter of fact you saw him stumble when he went back and you can see Bernie never even looked downfield he's doubled coming back out and never once even raised his eyes downfield into coverage third and 12 out of the shotgun inside handoff definer and finer breaks a couple of tackles but it stopped well short of the first down at the 41 yard line by TJ Turner and the Browns will have to kick it away and the Browns who had not used the shotgun went through it when closed our team back in midseason alpha defense gets the crowd on his feet they come off he got a sacked as one of the 24th of the year and they stopped the Browns in this field thanks brother gonna kick Scotch waiting back for Miami it's a good kick waiting feeling at the 12 yard line and he's out of bounds at the 27 after a 15 yard run back tackle was made by Felix right 46 yards tech 111 to go in the first quarter Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami Browns and south and sports dan Marino of the Dolphins passes to Marc duper who laterals back to Tony Nathan who in turn flips the ball from the 27 back to doofer at the 26 am duper advances to the 10 now you make the call where do you spot the ball lateral was really an illegal forward pass it's a five-yard penalty from the spot of the past slop the ball at the 30 to the 26 yard line [Applause] burrito Lorenzo Hampton who moves out to the 30-yard line a gain of four and Ana Mazda tournament followed by basketball the Bruins of UCLA resurging under Jim Harris their new coach against the Tar Heels of North Carolina Bruins unbeaten against the Tar Heels on college basketball action on ABC at 4:00 Eastern Time Saturday's resurgence second down and sixth at the 30-yard line [Applause] half a minute to go or a quarter with Edmunds demotion Davenport close to a first down takes it to the 36 yard line he is stopped there by Clay Matthews on what figures to be the final play of the first period you'll wonder how an outside linebacker could have a more solid career than the one Clay Matthews has had in Cleveland his 11th year out of Southern California and watch him play off the block here of Farrell Edmonds who comes in motion riding down to the inside look for the ball look for the ball then react back to the outside that's the way it's supposed to be done doing it all - Dan with the cast on a broken hand from a couple of weeks ago hasn't missed a moment of playing time because of it my family they're pretty solid his brother Bruce will be in action against play next week they measures that stops the clock momentarily with 17 seconds just short of the first down how do you think the Browns did in the draft back in 1978 they had two number one choices in 1978 and they only drafted Clay Matthews and Ozzie Newsome not altogether a bad way to kick off the 78 draft both in their 11th year both making major March with Cleveland we said that would probably be the final play of the first quarter but the clock just now restarts because of the measurement so the Dolphins could conceivably get up another play but now they appear to be content to let the clock run out and the reverse direction and we will start the second period so a smiling moreno comes to the sideline after the first 15 minutes of play so score back in Miami after this message and a word from your local station [Applause] in Miami Al Michaels Frank Gifford and Deardorff start the second quarter third and inches for Miami at the 36 yard line and Davenport may have gotten those inches with that second effort after the initial contact as you get to that pass the 36 yard line they needed just a couple of inches and dick hand tack signals first down dolphin might have been Davenport's third effort that got them the first time he was hit once hit twice and spin after the second hit is actually what got in the yardage for the first down not much in the way of offense when you look at it you'd expect more from Kosar and merino the only turnover the fumble by Manoa doesn't really do any damage time of possession about even pretty nondescript number mm-hmm and no score in the game Marino with all the time in the world for usual and it's dropped Freddie banks couldn't hold on he was covered by hand prediction second and ten he was dropped but it was worth watching Marino with that quick snap and fired that ball right on a line and not bad coverage by Dixon well it was better than not bad I think it was pretty good although it should have been a catch you know banks banks was there and a receiver like that Frank when he gets both hands on the ball look at Dixon oh he gets the hand right in there yeah thanks an old on to it from that angle the ball looked higher than it did from the angle before it would have been a great catch by Freddie Freddie I'll give you credit there that's a tough ball to bring down second and ten Arina once he has the ball and he's out of bounds at about the 35 yard line yes well before he's averaging almost 18 yards a cashton when we say fly fly for a tight end that is but he can really move and if you saw the game against the Jets a couple of weeks ago or the highlights you know what I mean Maryna almost lost that ball coming away from Center but looking at a rising superstar Marina with the concentration as Edmonds in the flat breaking clear and he does have great speed we watched him preseason go 80 yards for a touchdown here's what ours Stan Frankie wait 248 pounds white white continue to head for the sidelines I mean if I'm as big as Farrell Edmonds even though I'm bigger I would I'd head back for the middle of the field and take on Washington white box yourself into the sideline that is to learning at the 35 yard line Washington was thankful of a gift heading for the drive now don't you think Frank the first thing you're going to tell him is what the heck are you doing going out of bounds stay in the field challenge the guy with one of the Pazzi things that we talked to Don jewel about today was this man oh and they were stunned when he happened to be available in the third round and the Dolphins of course have not been drafting all that well but they got Edmonds in the third round and he just keeps coming on there was a lot of things he had to learn and one of them perhaps to put you two big as he was as fast as he is he breaks that back inside he might have taken it all the way well coming in is tonight's ballgame he had 29 receptions that was number 30 but the guy has an 18 yard average on his patches close our big play big time number four tight end second and Santas Davenport picks up about two taking it to the 33 yard line and Michael Dean Perry the fridges brother number 92 is in on the tackle what you can't do with an Edmunds and it's what the Dolphins have been trying to do thus far this evening of ossie newsmen is Ozzie Newsome is to cover him at the linebacker and if they continue to try to do that with Edmonds you're going to see him do something I get down and into the middle and he should be there big park six-six 411 third and eight by any of the Cleveland 33 early second quarter no score Marino out of the shotgun toy scratches in the game of the flock of the left [Applause] by banks docked at the 10-yard line as he got behind Minnifield and right is there to put him down the 1st down at the 10 great breathe by Marino picked up the zone Bank picked up the read with him he's into the slot he was wide open again that protection but look how quickly fires it so watch the body control here by Freddie banks going up that ball is behind him in hi Freddie banks is moving to the inside dan puts the ball a little high at a little behind banks look at him through the pivot and come around and bring down the football that that is nice first and 10 Miami Moreno off the fake buyers - hi over the middle intended for Jim Jensen mr. everything at the goal line Jennsen can be a running back a wide receiver a tight end he's the backup quarterback plays on special teams engage to one of the dolphin cheerleaders cleans at the stadium takes tickets he's been doing it all he's found a way to make a football team those 47 reception so many of them were third down and key receptions he's also the backup kick snapper Soula Joe Robbie here are you talking about cleaning up the state and selling tickets if you'll have him doing it it'll take me literally second and chant at the 11:00 over the middle excuse me thank you for a touchdown when Mark just loses a couple hundred dollars as he launches a ball up into the stands I think marina will pop in about half of a plate with a great effort Marino had to drill that ball super effort on the part of clay to come down with that was smoking on the fingertip kiss away at the line of scrimmage for Minnifield he passes him on map uses their 57 putting the two defensive safeties and Moreno throwing it in there so nobody's going to get a hand on it and a milestone touchdown for Dan Marino the 190 third touchdown pass of his career breaks his tie with Bob Griese good course San Marino as he Clips Bob Griese dolphin record in his sixth year when it took Bob fourteen seasons to do it safe to say the NFL has never seen a quarterback quite the equal of Dan Marilla Dan Marino and his ability to throw the football seven to nothing you want to drive to the Sun with the mill he was born in Grand River Ohio went to John Carroll University and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1951 he played with the Browns the Baltimore Colts in the Washington Redskins and became an NFL head coach at Baltimore at the age of 33 [Music] taking the lead early in the second quarter seventh of nothing Lane Young returns the kick from before after the 29 yard line with 1202 to play in the first half Joe Robbie Stadium we talked about Dan Marino and the fact that he's done it in less than six years greasy with 192 Frank over 14 here's the offense a little bit different though these days let's say so and you look around and you're Dan Marino you have not had in your six years while you've been here gazonga and a kick and that tremendous offensive lie they had four run blocks and look at the difference in the rules in the way the secondary can play quarterbacks back then went to look at the receiver and he was flat on the ground because back then it was legal with cut them at the line straight the game has indeed changed radically in the quarterbacks face and blocking for the offensive line for the password that's a punch out there now [Applause] Kosar [Applause] if a disbelief [Applause] William Jetson and Here Come guilty party here comes the argument that the balls that wasn't catchable well he didn't buggy but he did bump into it it may be overruled let's see Pierce interference defense number 26 and it's a good it's a good call there's no doubt that it's a good call although I believe the call is against William Judson number 49 but watch right here watch he moved back into slaughter right there and hit him and then the ball hits his hands I don't think there's any doubt that that not a proper call that's interference all the way we've been a slaughter from opportunity go forth I just don't know how Jarvis Williams got called for the penalty number 26 actually it's on Judson 49 neither the Shula 43 yard line Tony Baker is in the game as a running back he has never carried the ball as a brown until now as he goes to the outside baker's first-ever cleveland carry is for a first down and one problem the Browns have had is getting somebody to the outside and with Kevin Mac first tonight in particular biner likes to run north and south so does Manoa Fontenot as well here's a guy who can take it wide Marty Schottenheimer is very candid about it he said we're going to get Baker in there because we can't get back in there we can he can get to the outside we're going to give him the toss because we anticipate Miami thinking with us they know that Kevin Mac can't go so they're going to pinch everything down that's what the Dolphins have been doing big game by Baker Tony Baker on the injured reserve list all of last year and inactive much of this season [Music] at Fontenot in motion and this time it's finer picking up about five to the 39-yard line mark brown and rick grant converge on the stop you know getting back to Tony Baker and what the Browns are looking for from him he spent all of the last year on injured reserve because of a wrist injury and he has to play this year because he had aren't the stopping knee surgery a factoring training camp so this is a player that in reality the rest of the league knows nothing about free agent last year out of East Carolina there's Tony Baker looks like he may hat might have a little explosiveness he carried the ball once for the Falcons in 1986 he was their chant brown grass doing second and five at the 39 the pressure is on has to throw incomplete Jackie flying forced him to get rid of it and to the turf as well third and five boy incline hits Kosar right from behind I mean he's coming from the blindside here's flying right here just watch the rush but watch how he hits Kosar in the back Kosar never sees number 98 he gets the round field he gets around larry will Williams and then another hit from the other side by TJ burner and Virgil double whammy on Bernie Kosar frankly Klein led up might have been that extra little shot by Turner that really third and five out of the shotgun from the 39 yard line good protected we'll find her wide open touchdown Ernest Byner oh he was open a running back lined up at wide receiver you wouldn't think would get that wide open this time actually binders lined up in the backfield and comes out circles out of the backfield and just a blown coverage by the dolphin got himself locked up with but Brown a strong safety not known for great man for man coverage and finer they use a lot on the outside as they do fata know he was a wide open good luck trying to figure out who was supposed to have him David Frye was the closest of the Miami Dolphins but earnest Byner just all alone someone in it was Dave blue-green jersey made a major error but nobody picked him up after he sprinted by Matt for with the extra point that's good biner the team's leading receiver that's his 50th catch of the season but his first touchdown reception of the year and it ties the game at 7-7 with 1008 to play with Irish that linebackers in fact Phil man the linebacker losing every time [Music] Klee when tying the game 7-7 xx the top Frank mentioned that a a Cleveland victory tonight really doesn't do anything in terms of putting Cleveland to the playoffs but it puts Euston in the playoffs it is interesting they made of course next Sunday and of course Indianapolis interested because also a Cleveland win tonight and that's it for Indianapolis for the year as far as the way out the concern will clear it up we're try to at halftime is joke Chris returns the kick after the 14 yard line and if you're wondering where's Joel a cribs here is in Miami he's been around Buffalo in San Francisco and then he went to Indianapolis briefly and he winds up with the dolphins about six weeks ago the big thousand-yard he's for Buffalo going carried the ball five times over for Miami so far this year and really does this figure into their offense for the balance of the year and you really have to wonder about what the future holds in store for Joe Krebs as far as playing in this league first out for Miami from the 14 yard line 8 9 7 7 point Bulls his way out to the 21 they stop there by Frank Minnifield after a pickup of six second and four you wonder about this entire Miami running game then in terms of the draft and the fact that one of the things Miami will look for in all probability is a big back the feature back and you look at that graphic about Moreno he'll break that possibly tonight if he has just anywhere near an ordinary night and Frank and Al you're exactly right that's got to be priority number one for the dolphin is that big running back without that guy they're really not as going to effectively rush to football second and for Davenport picks up about three they've been going with Lorenzo Hansen at number one draft choice a few years back but he really hasn't developed into the 5 or under they thought he would Roy Stratford had a good rookie year but he's been walking through this year had two flu this week he doesn't appear to be the ultimate answer so they're definitely in the market for a compact you're looking for a top back yeah it's also Dan look at their defense I mean this whole day they put up 34 points two weeks ago against the Jets when they got beat 38 to 34 but you know as far as the way the Dolphins have addressed their defense you know their last three high draft choices have all gone defensively three years ago is John Offerdahl a second-round or was their first and John Boza and Eric Coomer oh so they drafted defensively they just haven't gotten any better during in one and at the nineteen the brown half the ball any Justin comes up with if they get a whistle it down at the 26 yard line and the penalty marker is down as well there's a flag on the field and I'm not quite sure what it's going to be and I'm not sure how this is going to affect either one of these two clubs it's up in the air now Paul Bates was in the discussion with dick Han tax holding is the call that was a fumble it came out [Applause] [Applause] the ball does indeed belong to any Johnson this is where we'll get the best look at it from the far side of the field let's hear that ball with one hand though now he tries to put it away but it's just too late but look at him for Dixon look where he put his helmet right on the football you saw Tim Manoa fumble earlier where the ball just came out from casual contact that is how you force a fumble and for Dixon putting the orange element right right on the football that's that's why you jarred loose first and browns at the 20 Baker and biner or the running backs last time Baker was in the game they pitched it to him swinging wide to the right this time they give it to him straight up the middle and he threads his way for a gain of about four to the 16 yard line you green and on the tackle another look at the fumble by Davenport and from the left watch hand for Dixon now you can see the balls out there in one hand and Davenport never does get a chance to cradle it right up against his body Frank never got it really what you would call tucked into that proper position and put away and there's Eddie Johnson right there but a superb play by well you'd expect him from Hanford Dixon a perennial Pro Bowler so many good backs carry like that but you've got to get it away and he never did have it tucked away before you with his second and six seven and a half minutes to go on the hands the game time seven seven [Applause] intended for a Langhorne third down mine corns done a nice job especially in the absence of slaughter it's given Reggie a chance to be the featured receiver in the Browns attack and the Browns have had to rely on their passion game with Cozart and their defense because their running game has been so far this year inside the 20 tough sledding for Cleveland and part of it has to do with the running game being subpar as you can see their worst in the lead once they get inside the 24 putting the ball in the end zone whistles blowing with third and five [Applause] his line from stopping play for the moment the impact tells us about Miami I think Miami came out I think Miami only had 10 min on the field I don't think they had a full complement of players on the field yes Tom Oliver Donny there on the right of Don Shula he's the defensive coach and he was the one who was telling Shula we got to get some more folks out there and Don quickly seizes the moment to call timeout toughen up with 11 Leland has his third down six at the 15-yard line 725 to go first half a seven seven times Dolphins blitz last time let's see if they come with extra people those are out of the shotgun and they do they rush five and Kosar off his back foot and falling down in the end zone was Langhorne Lankford covering fourth down when there was no contact there whatsoever I believe Reggie Langhorne just came became tangled up in his own feet and I think he had to get back because of a pass it was really poorly thrown by Bernie Kosar got the coverage you want it because they had a safety blitz look at his break to the outside there and look where the ball goes miscommunication between Langhorne and Kosar Langhorne expecting the ball over his outside shoulder and Bernie throwing it back to the middle of the field that bar who broke a rib last week on a busted field goal attempt or a fake attempt that was busted by Ron Burton picks this one through he did stay in the game last week continue to kick and boots a 33 yard field goal here they give Cleveland its first advantage of the night and again it's Cleveland bogging down inside the 20 yard line and it's helped Matt Barr considerably the that bogging down inside the 20 he's having a great year as far as memorable moments are concerned here's matt boy you want to use explicative whenever you say your most memorable moment you know yeah whether it's winning the Super Ball was nice and making the team's nice but I have to say my most memorable moment was the first time seeing myself on a bubblegum cards [Music] easy to please mother lofty ambition need you to blazing you're putting it through the uprights like he has for a long time Thank You public I'm cards out now don't they think you was serious well this is not Cleveland but a lot of fans have come south scouting out what they hope will be their seat locations for the Super Bowl Brow's feeling right involved little bit 10/7 cleveland if that looked like a corpsman biscuits dick goes out of bounds before it reaches the goal line so miami can take the football at the 35 yard line and this was one of the league's better rule changes by the way of not coming back and re kicking a kickoff that goes out of bounds go ahead and let the offensive team take it at the 35 yard line a suitable penalty has been applied and it saves everyone a lot of time in trouble particularly the guys are trying to cover it you know Wednesday night there's your lineup Wednesday night primetime here on ABC eight o'clock 7:00 central and mountain free to be a family followed by the Wonder Years Cooperman and China beat the Wednesday primetime Elena first and ten Miami at the 35 yard line Moreno going to the air thanks for the nice move to pick up the first down as he makes the catch and then figures out where the marker was and prediction covering on to play and they will spot the ball not quite at first down marker looked like he had it for the moment but the official right on the sidelines says no you're a couple of inches shy well they made her tonight he made the right move to go for it and banks is looking awfully good tonight first again I knew mark flight attendant week before last nfl's substance abuse policy for 30 days and of course will take him throughout the season second editions at the 45-yard line and a conservative straight ahead run by Davenport that's a first down under seven minutes to play now in the first half if if you were an offensive corner I'm going to pose this question to the two of you and you had second down up near midfield less than a foot for a first down I really need you to explain that call well particularly when you are five and nine and when you've got Dan Marino as your quarterback I just don't get it I don't think you do either first and ten at the 47 yard line maybe they get gun shot when they watch the Cleveland did before [Applause] and he picked up a batch seven remember Cleveland had the same situation second down a free play was incomplete third an incomplete fourth temps didn't pick up the first not that that would deter them but you can see what can happen occasionally let's check this guy out Clay Matthews who spends most of the game taking on the tight end working against the rookie Farrell Edmonds and Edmonds gets high and really doesn't stay with Matthews long enough and again an illustration of what an outside linebacker is supposed to do fight off the block stay on your feet pursue confront the ball carrier and bring him to the ground second and five 48 yard line Marino terrific protection again going deflate and incomplete and good coverage as Dixon might have gotten the hand on the ball and the question is whether Dixon got a hand on the receiver before the ball got there he had a little bit of both the left hand weird on the plate in the right hand going for the ball and here he is we're the finest man for man quarterbacks in the league and well times you're looking at it in slow motion and that would be hard to call in slow motion and if you're seeing it at top speed no way you're gonna call it was just a great effort by you name and prediction no that's not interference great play well in in slow motion Dixon makes contact with Clayton before the football gets there but when you are as good as hand prediction that's the kind of confidence you can play with third and five and they Stratford and Strasburg looking for the first down is very close you can see exactly how close he's run out of bounds by will Hill you know when we roll a tape like that like we watch Dixon and Clayton we're talking about hundreds of seconds when we say you can see the contact before the ball gets up no official in the world is going to make that call as interference it just illustrates it as a cornerback what a big part of your game confidence is you have to think that a rookie cornerback or a younger guy can't chance that because he's worried that he's going to get the flag a guy like Hanford Dixon getting a flag never even crosses his mind he's going to play his own game yeah fourth down if you look at it in regular speed fourth down after Stratford was shorter picking up the first and diving for the first down now is Lorenzo Hampton to keep the drive alive for Miami on a forest and inches play he takes it to the 41 yard line [Applause] there's a fourth down call I'm not too sure that Don would have gone for had not been in a five in nine situation first he's looking in the last two games at a lot of players who quite frankly will probably not be here next year he's wanting to see what they'll do in a situation when they are out of it if they'll stay in there they'll give it a hundred percent he believes that way Moreno and much too deep Clayton had broken it off to the outside and damn throws it into the end zone and again Moreno protected well we talked about the fact they've been sacked only seven times this year the Dolphins have not suffered a sack since the 25th of September or a week before the regular season ended in baseball it's been that long that's quite frankly one of the reasons he has not been sacked two in the head six in on one receiver he knew he was covered he just let it go he didn't scan the field for another receiver this is an I'm fired and then complete this guy might only have 25 or 30 SEC's if he didn't have any line I mean it's virtually impossible to get the Dan Marino and to serve his rhythm second and 10 from the 41 yard line the first time he's even been hit tonight the pass is incomplete as far as I can determine from up here this of course would be on official data no such stats are kept I think that's the first time they'd even touch Marino tonight have your timing Dan why I I cursed him didn't I here's Carl Hairston right on the nose and that's the quickest way to get to Dan Marino the penetration right up the middle it's really tough to get to him around the corners and really that's a double-team block Delon Bock Android foster both get a piece of Carl Hairston and this actually get Davenport right in the gut he should have handled the ball even though Marino was hit for a net knocks the wind out of you when that shoulder gets driven right into your solar plexus third and 10 from the shotgun Browns rushing sack by the rookie Brian Washington took it away from Clayton flags go down all over the joint after the play well after the play that's Bryan Washington's third interception of the year and this is one that you know yet we talked about him for Dixon having a lot of confidence this is a kind of a throw the quarterback makes who has a lot of confidence this is a ball Dan Marino probably should have thrown at a roll and double coverage mark Harper is back there with Brian Washington in right at this point you'd love to have it back that's Dixon number 29 Harper number 23 coming from across field the free safety Brian Washington is the nickel worked for Cleveland and whether or not Moreno saw him in out he didn't see him in time and Dan knew the minute he let that thing go that he was in trouble because Brian Washington really was just standing there waiting for the ball to come down he only had to react no more than two or three yards and then Troy Stratford got into a scuffle after the play had ended precipitating two penalties and will wait and get paying tax call here unnecessary roughness number 23 on Miami number 29 Cleveland all set question can play one that's Troy Stratford and hand prediction I guess they figure they weren't big enough to hurt each other that's in the world of pro football Bradford 5/9 192 Dixon 511 195 beat him wait scrap these Brown safeties have really come on as your Phoenix pride is playing great football free safety as you watch Brian Washington tonight and of course they replace couple of pretty good one Chris rockem's an outgrowth or their last year two new ones this year and they performed well Browns was food scoring drives in the quarter they lead 10 to 7 first content from the 13 yard line and everybody moved except the most important man of all the center Rakosi who didn't snap it [Applause] false start offense five-yard penalty people down ten of them distribute that one around it doesn't go anywhere without the football but this is where everyone's on the same page except for the center you could see Co czars hands move he goosed is the center that's asking for the football and it's really that riding of the hands it really tells that Center that it's time to snap it but for Cody what he wanted that's the standard I must ponder that I mean really a sinner has been around a long time regardless of the snap count when he gets that jerk from the center the ball comes up immediately first and 15 from the aid short game by their basic tank picks up a back to it'll be second and 13 Rick grass makes the tackle with 450 to play in the half Frank something you don't see a whole lot anymore is exactly that around the old days the quarterbacks used to really be in tune when one of the defensive men came across the line of scrimmage they never gave him a chance to get back across the line the way they do now boy he hits the center up comes the football and regardless of what happens you know you picked up at least five yards and like you said it has to be total concert be queen the two second and 13 Cleveland de from the sense [Applause] 45 seconds lock is down to three to one and they just do get the play off and those are throws to the far side of the cactus made at the 17-yard line by reggie langhorne who is about six yards short of the first down Lankford makes the tackle bond at the 18 call it third and five now this is the second area that a couple of weeks ago was ripped up by the Jets for over 430 yards and four touchdowns in that 38:34 loss to the Jets tonight moving a suitable job around the Dolphins have given a 69 point in the last [Applause] third and five from the Kosar throw is a little rakh regi Langhorne covered by the lankford in just good coverage that ball had to be thrown where Kosar threw the ball because of the coverage by Langford and Bernie takes a serious high-low shot Kosar is lucky that he comes out of that without being injured he really gets banged back in the pocket he's going to get it low from the right side Harry Coomer Oh comes in and it's that's the kind of stuff where quarterback a lot of times gets injured back stronger second punt of the night bouncers at the 47 and takes a good Miami bounce in a sound at the 50-yard line by van waiters and Miami has two timeouts remaining and 309 on the clock in the first half with Cleveland on top 10 to 7 coming up at the half Don Shula in what's built for him his toughest year and a look at the the playoff picture and will will try to be a prominent and to try to clear up a few things and give you some mathematical possibilities and probabilities [Applause] or maybe we'll just confuse you more probably test your credulity [Applause] first and ten at the fifty [Applause] marino incomplete intended work late one thing will clear up or a few misconceptions a lot of people thought on Saturday Indianapolis was eliminated wrong a lot of people thought that the Rams would win the division if they beat the 49ers not necessarily this Sunday so we'll clear up a few things as well or who was saying those things I don't know you were telling me a few guys were saying them I was flying yesterday wait till tomorrow they'll be talking about how we missed the Bernanke it is unbelievable the combinations that are still alive with one game remaining after tonight second and Sam from the 50 [Applause] and Lorenzo Hampton makes the catch at the 45 yard line Dave Grayson in on the tackle he stays inbounds clock keeps running 250 to go in the hand the one thing we know for sure is that there are probably 10 teams right now that you'd have to say have about an even chance of winning the Super Bowl I mean I don't know that there's one team right now that stands out head and shoulders above everyone else I can hardly remember when it's been this wide open before I think a dynasty in this league right now is 3 wins in a row p'raps Green Bay is on the way 3rd and 5 at the 45 yard line out of the shotgun they give the ball to Stratford who bounces off one tackler and it takes it close to a first down he's just short of the 40 it's going to be fourth and inches the young man playing hurt tonight Troy Stratford had a great rookie year a year ago from trouble all season long with nagging injuries and was questionable whether he could even play tonight and he was in the hospital Saturday and fed intravenously yesterday with the flu Shula can ponder the options at the two-minute warning you never know out of our opening yeah that's right where's the pinball coming to you from the Goodyear blimp enterprise nice considering what's going on up in the Northeast Ronnie Lee the right tackle of the Dolphins came off the field you saw him down on the turf he walked off by himself and Lois cheek the eighth round draft choice from Texas A&M replaces him in the lineup it's 4th and 1 for Miami with two minutes to go in the hands they send Jensen in motion and run the play fake with a caught and then dropped but out of bounds by Edmund Mark Harper covering on the play but he had control Edmonds has been thrown to fumbling in the past couple of weeks he's fumbled three times but if he's gonna fumble fumble out of bounds which he does here and he fumbled back works and he's lucky that he had enough forward progress that when the ball came back a couple of yards it gave him still enough yardage for the first down you know it's funny he's a rookie we sung his praises earlier he's already fumbled more times in his rookie year then his opposite number Ozzie Newsome of Cleveland has in his entire career well if he can rectify that problem I still don't think there's any doubt that we're looking at one of the future greats to this game from the 37 yard line from the shotgun tension makes the gang break the circle or finally tackled by Felix right at the 13 yard line and timeout by any their second and he's just covered one-on-one they didn't get the time that you thought Jensen asked for it and the Dolphins and waved it off so Jensen does not get the time that he asked for a flag is thrown he makes the catch that'll stop the clock at the five pressure put on that time by Hairston and a minute to 24 left on the clock they're here to jump that time offside [Applause] a lot of times in that hurry up type of offense where there's a lot of frantic movement is the offensive team that ends up making the mistake as I know it's a defensive lineman Hairston who ends up crossing line scrimmage defense number 78 [Applause] there might be a little 10 DB playing on a bad he missed last week's game but Jim some good out of the backfield he came on that long gainer for the first down from the wing back position they tried to cover him with a speedy linebacker David Grayson he couldn't handle it first and goal at the 8th [Applause] thanks to the 1-yard line we get overtime so Jensen before is interesting he had call for the timeout after that long run now they're going to take the timeout Moreno and waved it off so it wasn't called and they take one here and have one remaining thing about Jensen is that you can be deceived by his number number 11 and you say well anybody with number 11 we can't be talking about a real formidable person here but you know Jensen's listed its six-four two-twenty and when you see him down on the field before the game he looks a lot bigger than that to me I mean this is a big man here he is running the ball and more than that Dan he's a tough man a few years ago when he came up as a quarterback out of Boston University he could see pretty well he was not going to get a shot at making this team there it's staying with the team he could do it as a backup so he started going down under kickoffs covering punts he would do anything they wanted him to do and they discovered they not only had a good backup quarterback but a great athlete hi I'm going to speculate that that might be the biggest number 11s ever played in the National Football League that's a that's a big hunk of guy [Applause] first and goal ball at the two [Applause] and Moreno lossing ditches what a beautiful offensive strategy beautiful they come out late with Jensen who do they see come with him Dan Marino watches all the way it's Mike Junkin and inside linebacker Marino knows instantly that's the matchup I want Chunkin 54 comes all the way out of the middle he's just totally overmatched on a route like that I mean that's brilliant offensive play calling an execution by Dan Marino in the Dolphins and of course coming from the bench give credit to Don David Shula but again Junkin totally outclassed on a beautifully thrown ball by Marino great time invest Marino to Jensen was the key to that touchdown four consecutive plays to Jensen and the extra point and it's 14 to 10 Miami [Applause] couple of passes to Jensen and a run by Jensen and a pantsed attention for the touchdown that's a good way to get off the kickoff coverage team have to stay on anyway talked about Jensen before backup quarterback wide receiver tight end running back he'll snap for you and so the Cleveland Browns now find themselves trailing by four with 111 to go in the half look at what we're talking about here's Jensen right here watch him come all the way across the formation the one thing Dan Marino wants to see who's going to cover him here's the guy Mike Junkins going to come all the way over and the minute Dan Marino sees that he knows he's got the matchup he's looking for you'd think one of the defensive backs would come out with Jensen but as soon as he looks over there you can see him glancing to the right all the way he knows he's got the matchup he once with the inside linebacker there's a touchdown well you see that in replay and you're exactly right Dan I don't know what he had call but he saw Junkin come across there he hit it right on the head and was soon he saw junk and covering he waved to out in the flat - Jensen and an easy six no I this guy's been around here when he sees when he sees that matchup this current his cash register starts ringing right off the bat ding-ding-ding that's he's got one 194 for Moreno now just to put it in perspective as many as in Stabler through an engine tire career with the Raiders six up to the 9 yard line Gerald McNeil the ice shoes is run out of bounds at the 30 round Sabbath there with 105 in all three timeouts remaining we're team 210 Miami [Applause] some news from College Station Texas jackie sherrill who had been under some fire down there has resigned as the head coach at Texas A&M RC Slocum has taken over now as the head football coach of the Aggies and John David Crowe has been named as the athletic director and his alma mater former great Cardinal great running back Heisman Trophy winner - wasn't Jimbo first down from the 31 yard line of Kosar binary shackled immediately by david fry the linebacker up at the 36 yard line [Applause] in Cleveland with all of its timeouts but they don't take one here 48-47 clock's ticking down we have just discovered a big number 11 all right well you knew what would happen cassia's made any football and Miami has it at the 49 yard line horn pan Miami has Judson comes up with a football at the 49 was 32 seconds it was David Frye knocking it loose those are steps right back into the pocket fires and in gets the completion and again just good solid hitting us Dave and Frey and Miami has 32 seconds here at the 50-yard line and they are a hot ball club right now and if you're in the brown secondary you batten the hatches guess what's coming ere Marino and Miami has a timeout remaining [Applause] out of the shotgun [Applause] Moreno's man Jensen lines up in the backfield with him [Applause] is quite quick and he's to the 29-yard line he tackled by de Bracy a first down they have one timeout Moreno lines up out of the shotgun clock down to 1413 and ticking and from the 29 Moreno over the middle fix him up in field goal range jintan takes it to the 18 and those stops the clock and bring in Roubaix how to read by this man on the play before this last one the Browns brought poor man they dropped into a deep zone coverage Layton took a deep turned in he drilled his own play they brought six men he threw it underneath do it quickly I think it's the next completion well Frank you're exactly right because when when the brownies drop back into his own he works to the wide receiver underneath they come back and go man coverage on all his wide receivers Marino reads it instantly and goes to gents in the back out of the backfield I mean it's just plastic way it's a classic way to run a quick offense like that and a milestone pant that's 4,000 yards up and over that figure first time ever and a quarterback has done it four different seasons as Moreno does it here he's going for 189 of 1/2 4 of age to accept a 35-yard field goal Ron Jaworski the back up to Marino's to hold surveys missing 2 tonight 1 from 55 the other was partially deflected by clamping is good and it's like the old days with his proud of Joe Robbie Stadium the way the Dolphins have finished this first hand and they do it with a flourish a 5-game losing slash place but you'd never know it Joe Robbie Stadium erupts 17 to 10 Miami if the hand will return to Miami after this message from the NFL a word about an upcoming show on ABC and a word from your local station coming up an interview with Don Shula a look at the playoff picture as well [Music] I'm on a Dell just a minute all right excuse me I'm Pat O'Dell with a special thank you message for everyone who's been part of the United Way winning game Bernie Kosar can passes to victory on the field and when it Joe Robbie Stadium opened last season and they have not sold out voting they have sold one game out this year but too late to lift the blackout so the point I'm making here is that that one game has been televised locally in Miami in 1988 for those dolphin fans staying home tonight they're missing we got quite a Dan Marino show just under 200 yards in the first half and the way it was setting up at the end of the first half it should not change a whole lot well the business of at hand is for the Cleveland Browns came into this game favored trail Miami by a touchdown in their situation in their own hands if they win their remaining two games there at home for the playoffs for the wild-card game this is Joe Krebs bringing it back out to the 29 yard line and we'll take a look at the numbers through the first 30 minutes couple of turnovers for each team in Miami with Marino that hot second quarter in 189 yards for Dan at the half remember how nondescript those numbers were at the end of the first quarter 50 and 65 yards respectively a lot of action in the second and again over 4,000 yards for the fourth time where Dan Marino almost a 60 percent completion average seven more touchdowns and interceptions this guy truly has been a zone a level all by his load I want it starts to happen Dan it's sort of self-generating it just tempo just keeps picking up and he's going to have to work to make the Pro Bowl this year yep guys like Kelly and Esiason because of how their teams are doing you'd have to think are going to get real look still won't and sure he'll show up Hanson thanks again and after the 38 yard line close to a first down Dan like Fran Tarkenton for it years a notable no-show in the Pro Bowl I think I I think I was on four or five different Pro Bowl teams elected with Fran Tarkenton and never met him that was before they move the game to Hawaii I probably didn't in a restaurant once I brand I'm Dan Dierdorf he wouldn't talk to me I've spoken to Brandon number signs but you're right he was a guy that just didn't really make a habit of making it that I guess second and one Thanks attack it takes it to the Cleveland 46 yard line and so Moreno picks right up where he left off in the first half first down at the 46 of the Browns banks with his fourth reception tonight and that's a career-high for the man who started his career with the brown first Frank banks has made a major difference tonight with the loss of mark duper with the drug suspension he would have to figure the Browns concentrate on mark Lakeland they've been doing that the banks is having a big night got that big number 11 in there Dan yeah I've got one that we're going to fast along here for all you numbered nuts out there number eleven chicken chicken what a leading four-year our timing is good tonight what this is like a crap table right now yo go again Jim Jensen motion coming out of the backfield and the Browns showing an inability to stay with the motion man and Moreno there's no question where he's going with it and listen to this Jim Jensen now I talked about what a big number 11 he is at 64 220 Doug Todd the PR director of the Dallas Cowboys calls Eddie white to see our director of the Dolphins to tell us about Sonny Kim who was the second round pick of Dallas he was a quarterback out at ECU in 1962 who was 6-7 to 35 my era remembering well the only thing I say is now if you got to go back 26 years to call me out on something I can live with that I can live with it nice going Doug now the conditioning programs are different today also 6-pin what is matamata grown a little larger I remember Sonny gift do you really yeah see see you the Whorley just before the horn frog where my all-time favorite collegiate mascots Dan Jenkins handsome little creatures second and eight out of the shotgun from the 27 yard line [Applause] No intended for banks who can't come up with what would have been catch number five on the evening for him third down and he one of the few times Marino has been off target tonight he had nine consecutive completion fill misfiring here and banks wasn't wide open here against Benefield little drive to the inside banks looking awfully good tonight he had a drive to the inside that caught Metta field who liked Dixon on the other side is a good man the man defender getting spun around third and eight at the 27-yard line Ronnie Lee back at right tackle for the Dolphins here at the start of the second half Marino flag incomplete but a marker coming [Applause] intended for Clayton and the call goes against 3:1 them it's gonna be an automatic first [Applause] holy defence number 31 five yards first down Minnifield I think he's lined up on Freddie banks and rides them to the inside and then watch what happens when banks tries to go back to the outside there's the hold right there with the left hand it wasn't that shot with a right that's perfectly legal but when banks tried to cross back over in front of Minnifield spotty you saw the left hand right up with the shoulder pads an alert official said I caught you at the 22 yard line first in ten Davenport bursts out and out of bounds he goes at the 6 yard line Davenport who played a major role in Miami's offensive late after a nondescript first half of the season he's really come on and you'll recall we did a game here last year when they went to him a lot through the air in fact he caught 10 passes to tie at that point a team record and Moreno continues to go right after the line the brown linebackers this time it's David Grayson number 56 see him come out trying to cover Davenport I mean he is way late and way short and Moreno continually going to that matchup of isolating a brown linebackers first and goal from the seven Hanson whoa it stops at the one he had a big hole initially and then it closes just before he gets to the goal line push back by Clay Matthews second down that was a major-league collision you could hear that you could almost feel it all the way up here at the poof Amada just inside the two early third quarter Miami on top 17 to 10 all of the scoring in this game in the second quarter to see Moreno stick his head up out of the dolphin huddle and looked to see who came on the field for the Cleveland Brown - how alert is this guy he wants to know what personnel is on the other side wants to see if he can get Gingin matched up with Duncan again a second and goal he said he's in Bucktown look at that write to the isolation on a linebacker grayson again he opened the night with it remembered ferrell Edmonds they tried to cover him with a linebacker he's been hitting backs out of the backfield all night long but to get that kind of a hookup with a receiver and a linebacker covering you've really got to know what you're doing out there if I'm a brown guy and I'm on the other side of the ball and I see Moreno stick his head out of the huddle look at me I wave and said hey Dan come on now I give me a rest way and that's what David Grayson is saying now Moreno you have to give him credit maximizing his opportunity going for his best possible match up to where she holds her of age and the kick is good so the Dolphins take the second half kickoff watch Sam the co Marino with the hot hand and Miami leads by 14 ties to both teams you're watching tonight he started with the Browns he was their first-round draft choice in 1964 then went on to star with the Dolphins for five seasons and went back to Cleveland to close out his career hall-of-famer Paul Warfield wall warfield he gave us a lot of thrills and here's a guy who's given dolphin fans a number of them tonight after I the season June tension 24 10 Miami Leon from the floor he brings it back out to the 28 yard line you know we saw the touchdown by Hampton and will get a good look at him coming out here and the matchup with Grayson but keep an eye on this guy Ferrell Edmonds here goes Jensen in motion but watch how wide open Ferrell Edmonds the tight end is the motion by Jensen just completely confuses the Brown secondary there's Edmonds who makes a block he hits Grayson in and my gosh if Dan Marino wanted all he has to do is plop it over the top end Edmonds has an easy catch right now the Miami passing game has got the brown secondary in a serious state of flux from the 28 yard line first and 10 Cleveland those are the Pantanal and he's tackled at the 37 yard line just short of the first and by Judson who talks so much about what would happen to Cleveland wins tonight well if they lose tonight nobody is going to clinching nobody is eliminated but I sure going to complicate things well I'll tell you one thing the New England Patriots are sitting in front of their television sets tonight rooting like crazy for Miami because then New England with a victory at Denver Saturday would clinch a wild-card berth and even if they were to lose they still have a chance to get in but at least they would control their own fate and Indianapolis stays alive that's right second down and 1 at the 37 yard line [Applause] the long route to a first down loses the ball but he was down no fumble ball was down clearly indicated by the official first bound Cleveland at the 43 yard line of course this game were watching tonight if the brown should lose it it's not going to be lamented very much in Houston either is he down clearly as the Maul in his possession hits the ground it comes loose no fumble first down at the 43 yard line [Applause] Kosar [Applause] big number land eh second down and ten well we've been talking about some of the convoluted ways teams can get in and in a way we've been trying to clear it up and I'm sure along the way confusing some of you we've talked about New England now if the Browns lose tonight to down by 14 New England would clinch a wild-card with a win at Denver or even if they lose to the Broncos losses next week whether Brown to Houston and the Colts to Buffalo would still get them in but New England again would control its state and we'll tell you about Indianapolis in a moment the late great Colts who were buried on Saturday by some that are still alive will need two pages for that rookie flag is thrown at the inception of the play and the catch is made by Clarence weathers that will see if it goes into the record books or not because the can tax crew has brought some laundry 24 minutes left here though I think that's a point we have to make walk side against my auntie so Julis is wax and they'll take the play to get the plaintiff five defense number 28 Henley in decline first down Don McNeil and after those of you in Indianapolis wondering about your Colts what has to happen will have Cleveland loses tonight and what has to happen next week is the Colts have to be Buffalo there it is if they lose tonight they'd have to be Buffalo with the Colts and then the Browns would have to lose to Houston and the Patriots would have to lose Saturday to Denver and Indianapolis would go to the playoffs first things first unit they need for things to happen the first of which of course is the Browns to lose tonight okay and they be awarded the Super Bowl weekend for Frankie D while they move his sticks here and there a reason for the momentary delay and the ball is at the 44 yard line how about the Cattleya Cowboys get to the playoff yeah they're in their own Troy Aikman race field to Green Bay yeah there and when you know at the Dallas in Green Bay both won this past weekend which I think makes a statement about the competitive spirit in the National Football League I think every coach in this league would take it as an insult if you even inferred well you ought to lose this game so you can get a better grab choice you know anything about having a competitive spirit that isn't insult particularly Tom Landry is Indian buddy first and 10 Cleveland at the 44 yard line [Applause] a loose ball for the moment Tony Baker juggled it and Baker was the fellow who carried the ball for the first time as a brown for a 13-yard pickup in the first half almost wants the handle here but retrieves it in the shop after a minimal games so simple on the AFC West isn't yes LA or Seattle winner-take-all but it's incredible that if it is LA and look at that job by Baker getting the ball back that we would see a division champion with a 500 record as Cleveland West Philly in 1985 just doesn't sit right doesn't add a second down and nine at the 43 yard line [Applause] as his finer through the bill and he looks forward to the 36 you know one other thing that hasn't gotten a lot of publicity because people talking in terms of Houston as a wild-card if Washington beat Cincinnati on Saturday and it's not out of the question down in Houston beats Cleveland on Sunday Houston wins the 3rd division champ Cincinnati is a wild card so all in all who has clinched well Buffalo ain't up to worry about anything they've won the e they go into the playoffs Cincinnati is in at least as a wild-card and in the NFC Chicago is down with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and San Francisco is also in that's no worse than a wild-card spot but we only have two Division champions the net Chicago and Buffalo right third and two from the 36 yard line water back off the injured reserve list makes the catch takes it to the 25-yard line and he started by William judgment first in the NFC East the Giants can win their division outright for the win over the Jets this weekend they'll be the away team if they play in the same stadium the Eagles can become a wild card if they and the Giants both win and the Saints defeat Atlanta or the 49ers defeat the Rams he that the Eagles lose at Dallas they would still be a wild card if the Rams and the Saints both lose meanwhile as we banter about the playoff possibilities the Cleveland Browns trailing by 14 are putting together a nifty little dry and they've moved the ball all the way to the 26 yard line first and 10 625 to go in the third quarter and away on a beautiful play by William Judson intended for Clarence weathers Gutzon has made some plays tonight good position timed as well that's when playing cornerback has to be fun when you get to make a play like that where you defense the receiver perfectly follow the ball and then just reach out with your left hand and flick it away almost effortlessly at a couple of good place tonight he's had a couple of good completions but they were perfectly throwing balls and that's going to happen to a defensive back but watch this McNeal is there the last second the outstretched hand takes it away from him right over the top and that's where Clarence weathers has a wide receiver at only five nine at somewhat of a disadvantage of giving away several inches to a taller William Judson second and ten Cleveland at the 25-yard line Eric Coomer Oh was shaken up on the land play he's out [Applause] and the cash is made over the middle and then dropped but answer after Ozzie Newsome was down laugher doll makes the tackle and again we talked about Newsome the fact that Ozzy's needles of all over 500 consecutive times now without a fumble and that's about as close as you come I was a good read by Kosar picking up the Blitz but I don't think it it functions so well I mean he had called something different than what transpired on the field [Applause] [Music] well they say the ground can't cause a fumble the ball is in his possession and in his hand when his hand hits the ground I mean if you're going to take the literal interpretation we call history now third and seven looking for the first family habit on forward progress as langhorne makes the catch in first down territory before he's pushed back first down at the 15 yard line working his Langford in not bad coverage by Langford just brilliant timing between Kosar and the receiver we watched it all night good drive by the ground listen to something at least two quarterbacks by and large make such intelligent decisions about where to go who to throw to who's open it's just fun to watch the game [Applause] birth safley 150 [Applause] draw finer fights his way for five to the ten yard line cool Moreau the report on him we talked about his leaving the game about five plays to go groin full and they say he won't be back number one draft choice there is and this is a wasted opportunity for Eric Coomer oh they're number one choices this year out of Ohio State this is the time of the season when a guy like that to play every down get as much experience as he can and this is kind of a shame it's a bummer to go into the offseason off an injury I hope he can come back next week and play second and sixth at the 11 yard line Spiner makes the face and he's out of bounds at the three yard line earnest Byner who caught a touchdown pass in the second quarter stepping out with 351 to go in the third quarter each team has had the ball just once in this period finer came into the night leading the Browns in receiving me has not hurt himself tonight we watched him out of the flank we watched him work in the backfield having a big night first and goal at the 2 yard line crowd or the referee hand tag announcing that Ricky Bolden comes in as an eligible receiver 77 he has caught a touchdown pass to see and Kosar under pressure escaping and score that was not in slow motion well heads up play Bernie Kosar everything set up to the right they flood the field to the right and one of the pluses of that is that if it folds up to your right side there's nothing left over to the left and again a smart play by Kosar he knows with the way they've worked the right side of the field if I get in trouble head away from it head away to where the Dolphins have vacated the area you've talked about a Dan great read by both these quarterbacks it is a pleasure to watch it his first rushing touchdown of the season and his third rushing touchdown of his career wise extra point is good 343 to go in the third Cleveland back with e7 [Music] Marquette County Michigan 1800 square miles of woods and marshes rivers trails and mud in fact off-roading doesn't get much better than this so when you see people bouncing around out here in the Nissan hot rod and 4x4 having great time and necessarily Isan Hardbody 4x4 official track of the market shares certain highs between this year Paramount Pictures wish you hilarious holiday see rated pg-13 now play and The Naked Gun from the file the police fog machine says Siskel and Ebert and the movies two thumbs up The Naked Gun from the makers of airplane rated pg-13 now playing [Music] way down of these Browns fans are hoping us to come back to Miami and in six weeks kind of the Super Bowl which is all 23 Barr's kick taken at the sick drive line by joe cribs and he brings it back after the 27 and a penalty marker is down Marlin Jones makes the tackle 333 to play in the third quarter Youngstown Ohio the DeBartolo family from Youngstown Edward jr. the owner of the San Francisco 49ers there is no flag on the play first down by any could've fooled us yeah [Applause] Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami mom are they ready yet I'm still working on it rice krispies treats are so easy to make they take no time at all these things take time but they taste so good your family will think you're slaved over them all afternoon and that's what they think well what they don't know won't hurt them rice krispies treats dear rail back I have a complaint my husband ordered 3:33 to play in the third quarter Miami on top 24 17 dolphins took the second man kickoff roll for a touchdown Cleveland took the ball roll for a touchdown Miami hands it down for the second time in the second half first and 10 at the 27 and they start on the ground as Hampton picks up about to get Grayson the cleveland linebacker out of the game he has brewed both knees and appears to be done for very very busy tonight they've been working on Grayson as it backs out of the backfield and that means that flipper of Charlton the rookie first-round draft pick out of Ford is in the lineup now for the Browns at the 29 yard line second down and look at Dave Grayson fathers starred as a defensive back with the Raiders [Applause] from the 29-yard line dancing what about my bike well Miami tonight we go up to Minnesota to wrap up the NFL season next Monday night and then gents we are back in the south as we return to the world in the Sugar Bowl on the night of January the 2nd I don't know if college football is ready for our to our entranceway we want to get a few tips from keep jacks oh I've greased it I know nothing against Green Bay but we would have liked to been going to Minnesota with a different scenario everyone will be concentrating on the Big Uglies upfront in the trenches it's always one of the pits what's at the barn doesn't burn and the cornfield with it third and five from the 33 Moreno contention at the 45-yard line a first down Tim Jensen earlier this year established a dolphin record when he caught 12 passes in the game at New England and tonight for Jensen that's catch number 5 the Miami passing game has been something that the Browns and their past defense which is the number one pass defense in the AFC and the NFL just really haven't seemed to be able to solve tonight it's very uncharacteristic to see receivers that wide open in this talented Brown secondary Moreno from the 44 crop stood over the middle for Hansen he escaped drunken and in Matthews with help from Dixon brings him down but not until he has a first down remember how he talked at the top of the telecast about the frustration being fell here in Miami by both Don Shula and the entire team at some of the things that have been said about them and some of the things that have been written about them and talked about and I think you're seeing something tonight I think you're seeing a football team reflecting the character and the pride and the decency of that guy right there Don Shula as he said Don Shula at our halftime interview he said I've got to show leadership and I'm sure he's expressed at this past week where responding from the 45 yard-line sound year for Miami here's one guy still having a terrific season warrant Clayton a first down at the 30 yard line [Applause] and again earlier tonight eclipsing his own team record four receptions in a season and he's also caught his 12th touchdown pass of the year along the way while those six to play in the quarter and over a thousand yards first in San Miami at the 30-yard line Miami ahead 24:17 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] beautiful tack first down at the 16 yard line tackled by hand prediction oh yeah a great angle to watch that couple of all pros performing brilliantly Marino to Clayton and he was in a crowd and Marino drilled it in there well watch underneath watch Brian Washington actually be the guy from underneath that really disturbs the flight of the ball and gets the stance right Marc Clayton's face I guess what Clayton has done is made even all the more remarkable by what kind of a year duper had been having even before the suspension Cooper only had one touchdown catch all year long the burden really has been on the shoulders of Mark Clayton to perform Moreno is now thrown for 300 yards tonight as Davenport gets up just past the line of scrimmage and pushed back and that will be the final play of the third quarter so the Dolphins drove for a touchdown the browns drove for a touchdown the Browns only had the ball once in the Korean and Miami for another score about an upcoming show an order in Miami Al Michaels Frank Gifford and Deardorff good ballgame Miami on top 24 to 17 and driving are the Dolphins second down and nine at the Cleveland 50-yard line burrito out of the shotgun Cleveland wants to win this game somebody's going to have to come up with a big play it's depth and here's your big play Felix right well he loses his burrito burrito recovers the fumble boy was in a big play I guess it was what hustle by one of the Miami Dolphins who came back and jarred the ball loose and hustle by Marino to get over there let's see if we can figure out who it is okay the ball's going to be tipped at the line of scrimmage here it is by Marlin Jones now it's deflected to Felix right look at the lamp who's going to come in here and get this ball Cobra go it's mark plate it's Mark Clayton who comes in and hits Felix was right from behind and darts knocks the ball loose I mean what else can Mark Clayton do here tonight and how about Marino he was over there ready to make the tackle yeah well ready to see how things were going over the sidelines now that is some kind of hustle by Mark Clayton what he knew what he was doing didn't he Marlin Jones with the tip Felix Wright with the interception and Mark Clayton the big guy there for Miami to knock it loose oh and this is the ideal time to fire that ball into the end zone you have everything a little discombobulated take your speed probably banks fatal draw the double coverage to trying to up on top and get it all after all that first down Miami this time at the 37 yard line instead of the [Music] the ball the 26 driveline and it should be an upgrade first down [Applause] again it appears that the movement of Jenson is really some how perplexing the brown I mean they're not very complicated fast routes right no they're not they start up in motion they turn around and bringing back the other way they get it's in getting him lined up against the linebacker and Moreno has been successful all night long in doing that I mean these dolphins aren't reinventing the wheel as far as their past pattern but the Browns as just isn't their customary game [Applause] there's a Marino reads coming up first down for the 26 yard line and again but too far intended for Marc Leishman Moreno tonight up in over 300 again that's nothing new it's the sixth time this season it's the thirty second time in his career there are the figures and and only Dan Fouts with more 51 in the bounce of course played 14 season coming into tonight he had five three hundred yard games that hit only one one of those games that'll tell you a little bit about the dolphin defense well the what the Dolphins defense what they had four games this year where they didn't allow a touchdown and they lost three of those so that was the Miami offense that went to sleep they've taken turns letting each other down second intent of the 26 Jensen in motion come back the other way and she's made five banks at the 12-yard line tackled by Hanford Dixon and that's a first down but that's just fun to watch Hanford Dixon again in a great position couldn't be much better and a foul from slow getting up Harry Galbraith their rookie right guard appears alright but again he couldn't cover him any better no I mean Lucas your time Oliver Doughty the Oliver Dottie the defensive coordinator of the Dolphins if you are his counterpart for the Browns you look at Dixon in the meeting tomorrow when they watch these films and you go Bamford nice nice job sometimes it just can't be that good you can't do it well enough perfect coverage by Dixon just an even better throw first and ten that's the 13 yard line [Applause] puts back bikes Tarleton is he reaches the 10-yard line what's interesting here to Miami a team that normally does not possess the ball for large quantities of time in this second half which is 17 minutes old Cleveland has had the ball just once in the hand do you think I should explain that again I used to be there well sometimes it's time to get the late sometimes you start off with something that sounds like really a great idea halfway through there you lose it halfway [Music] second and seven from the set the fingertips of Jensen covered by Harper so third and seven at the 10-yard line [Applause] David Shula even he hasn't escaped the wrath of the fans here in Miami by no means assistant head coach at 29 years of age I guess what was a great cook a former player here gave an interview and intimated that some of the Dolphins players weren't real happy with him being the assistant head coach quickly refuted I said by most of the dolphin veterans third and seven Marines again you had another perfect who let you ride comes in but I think that was after the touchdown had already been signal flag is back at the 17 yard line Mike Johnson the Browns linebacker really upset I mean really hot still upset is still going after Jim Jensen somehow Johnson and Jensen Kame involved in something [Applause] and for Dick's around over there tried to make a little piece before Mike Johnson got thrown out permanently but what a great shot again by Marino and you had a perfect camera angle to watch it personal foul offense number 11 personal foul 59 defense killings are offset push on all happening after the touchdown an emotional game [Applause] well Johnson and his defense they're not used to this type of shredding this is a defense that has allowed only 16 points again the fourth fewest points in the lead coming into the game where they stick to throw at Miami has now scored 31 and they lead by two touchdowns if you Hannibal it's a simple pattern here's plate and just watch the corner into the end zone the only throw that will work here is one that is right there the single coverage Harper not in bad position but it's tough to defend the perfect pass in the perfect place [Applause] shop 31 to 17 and this this one started innocently enough a scoreless first quarter and then 1710 at the half Miami 31:17 at the moment pervades to kick off and that one pounds into the end zone for a touchback doubt it comes to the 20-yard line tucked ow well we've all heard about the tragic toll resulting from the earthquake in Soviet Armenia which has killed thousands left many more homeless in the Armenian people in New York have set up special phone lines for those who wish to help there's the toll-free number at the bottom one eight hundred five two seven six three six four where you can send your contributions to the armenian diocese earthquake fund at six thirty second avenue new york 100 one six four four what number you see listed right there almost hard to believe the magnitude of that president we won from the 20 Kosar starts by hitting Fontenot that's a first down up at the 33 yard line with 12 23 to go in the fourth quarter only the second time in the half that the Browns have had the football give you an idea how Moreno has credit the Browns defense we've given you a lot of stats but coming into tonight the Cleveland defense had allowed an NFL low eight touchdown passes he has hit four for tonight and it's not over and with 196 in his career just to keep putting that in perspective he passed Kenny Stabler tonight he passed Joe Ferguson tonight and he's tied with Bobby Lane and Norman's needs for career touchdown passes at the moment and closing in on Kenny Anderson [Applause] incomplete and sanded for Brian Brennan Steve hurt down in the gun and our brain trust down there I'm going to put you to work at the current pace if Moreno continues when will he become the all-time NFL touchdown pass leader now let's see how long it takes him to come up with this answer he's already got the answer a week the week from Thursday I think a week from Thursday [Applause] he really appreciates that he doesn't have enough to do down there what else do you want Rogers Hornsby batting average in 1926 I'm talking about everybody he's passing we don't have to have it in 90 seconds to second and 10 from the 33 yard line and the catch is made by Fontenot up at the 40 short of the first down by about three third and third and three with 12 minutes to play in regulation and the Goodyear blimp enterprise haha oh yeah I wonder if he's certified forget Sloane the surrogates lonely up there does trouble with me I saw Santa Claus today on water skis it doesn't seem right does it over in South Florida haven't saw Donald Trump spoke floating around down here that takes up all in South Florida third and three from the 41 and water makes the catch as the first down at the 46 yard line I think Webster's arm is okay if some contact with is what he was looking for to find out if this fractured forum is healed okay I I think that might at least get him headed in the right direction from a confidence standpoint sure they were a real good shot they wouldn't let him in there unless it was perfectly alright it does I think it's more psychological this foot Marty Schottenheimer wanted him to get rid of he has a pin in that arm he has to be thinking about it got hurt at me sixth game of the season against Philadelphia and I think he would like to get him ready for the playoffs and now becomes a much more difficult task to reach those playoffs the Dolphins I think are taking a timeout here Justin is hurt he was he was staggering around and I don't think he knew where he was for the moment and they want to get him out of the game so here he comes he's played a game tonight that's a smart play by Miami you're protecting a corpse you're protecting a 14-point lead don't take any chances with Bernie Kosar quarterback it was actually the official who who signaled for their nets charged with it but he noticed them wandering about almost aimlessly and renee.thompson comes in to replace him Kosar I find him quickly at the 47 yard line first sound like maybe now dolphins after showing blitz then back off and send only four and Cozart swings it to the 35 and a great rule by Langhorne but it only results in another yarder sold more first down at the 35 [Applause] interesting game being played on that last play as Cozart looked out saw single coverage in the form of Thompson who had just come in for William Judson he changed the play and Miami changed - they went to double coverage out on that side Judson he's back in and lines up at right corner with Brennan out there for Cleveland first down Browns at the 36 945 to go those aren't at the 31-yard line at the first catch of the night for Derek Chanel who is the heir apparent to Ozzie Newsome when and if Newsome retires to Nell in his second year out of UCLA appears to have a promising future and if I was a member the Cleveland Browns I'd be getting back in the huddle the clock continues to run 917 and ticking and two touchdowns down and Bernie Kosar is wobbling badly and the crowd if Cozart comes out and this guy comes in to hunt Strock you will hear innovation well this Marty Schottenheimer with some major concern right now this is about the worst sight possible for Schottenheimer in the Browns it was offered to all who came in and hit him and Kozar almost looks like he has nowhere to go it almost appears to be too painful to walk on and yet he doesn't want to go down on the field let's see if we can get a look at it here the ball is gone and there's John Offerdahl who comes right into the front of the knee and a lot of times that's where you'll see like a hyperextension of the knee where the knee actually gets driven back oh and Bernie Kosar has a sore leg walking off though looking better than is it a minute ago first thing it does and you hooked and it scares you boof scares him what about Modell why Art Modell is breathing again right now you see the knee braces that a lot of the players wear they are really more for the knee getting flex to the inside on a blow from the side there's really a so what they can do from that direction and the crowd tells you who's coming into the game of course the emergency quarterback brought in by the ground but he won a game for them big game against Philadelphia Danielson was out Hagel was out those are was out and they know him well here in Miami he's won big games here now this will be interesting to see how they react to any success he might have second and six as he takes over at the 31 the 38 year old struck and he gives us a fire and a big hole and finer takes it to the 20-yard line he's tackled by Jarvis Williams the clock ticking down 848 to play in regulation 31:17 Miami and there's Kosar worked on on a Cleveland benches the Browns have moved the ball to the 20-yard line or in this akin al leads us back to Mike bagel and the possibilities of what the Browns can do with him because right now it's only struck backs up Kosar the emergency quarterback is Brock were to go down as Brian Brennan Mike bagel is on injured reserve gary Danielson as an injured reserve at 220 first intently vlinn over the middle Newsom makes the catch first down at the 6 yard line Frazee Newsome the heart and the soul of the brown Frank this used to be one of the most popular plays in football just the quick dump to the tight end and you don't see it now but once every seven or eight games only Don Strax been around long enough to remember you might be right I Newsome it doesn't get any easier than that get it tight in that can get inside the linebacker why not go with it every time well it takes a 15-year veteran to an 11-year veteran to pull it off strike playing for the first time in three minutes ago first and goal at the sink [Applause] it's taught by langhorne and he told at the 4-yard line mark brown in on the stop lots of time left in this ballgame if the Browns can somehow get it in the end zone and if the Browns defense can somehow play better than they played here in the second half against Dan Marino in the Miami offense but boy there have to be a lot of lumps and people's throats in Cleveland right now looking at Bernie Kosar being worked on on the sidelines you saw the initial pain if nothing else we can guarantee he's another very sore knee [Applause] lost it for Langhorne touchdown and the crowd viewing this with very mixed emotions obviously they don't want to see the dolphin's give up a store but on the other hand Strock is popular as they've ever come here again a timing pattern McNeil trying to stay with Langhorne and the stay with me but when he gets outside of you you've got a can't look back or you lose contact with him it is beautifully thrown what kind of touches that by Don struck a guy you know that doesn't take a whole lot of snaps during the course of the week Bernie Kosar does almost all the week during practice work during practice time and then come in cold and put that kind of touch on the football a very important extra point by far is good so strike who hasn't played in eight weeks comes off the bench three for three for twenty yards and a touchdown we was kicking off to Miami Miami on top 31 to 24 and crib moves over to take it as a nine yard line and he brings him back out through the 22 yard line was 618 to play not only does Donn struck have to put touch on the ball look at the pressure look up the pressure up the middle and again the arc on the ball look at a drop in there and this expression needs no words he's seen that before he might see it again in the 45-second block all the way down to two or three seconds before he gets its death [Applause] beep play again it's Frank and he's tackled by Clayton but this time he holds on Clayton teeth jar the bull loose in a big play for the Browns instructing the Browns take over at the 39 yard line well Felix right his second interception of the game and again the same tackling combination and it was really Clayton and Wright who were locked up at the very beginning and watched his play by Felix going up timing his jump and then staying with the ball and that's the old tip drill and again the hustle by Clayton this is just a recreation of before if Mark Clayton doesn't get there had to touchdown Felix right walks into the end zone Dan Marino's all that confidence still tried to cram it in there the one thing he didn't want to do is what he just did and Felix Frank who probably is having so much of a better year than he's been publicized as having because of the two quarterbacks de defensa flavor the brown from the 39 finer picks up one if fight if by chance the Miami Dolphins win this game tonight Mark Clayton ought to get a game ball not for his reception but for his two tackles one that pours his feelings right into fumbling and interception and that tackle which saved a touchdown because Felix Wright was gone Mark Clayton is the only guy that has a shot at not often a wide receiver deserves a game ball for a couple tackles good ray plays clock ticking down under three minutes second and nine at the 38 yard line Miami ahead by seven [Applause] Hubbard by Justin then capital C and that's pretty close to offensive interference on Brian Brennan if it is if they don't call it William Judson is the guy with the inside position watch Brennan come over the top he's going for the ball and you can hear the crowd they just saw that on the board good play by Brian Brennan that's a play he has to make running the risk of the flag or not he has to break that up it's a that's a heads-up play by Brennan for wide receivers in to the Browns on 3rd and 10 at the 38 yard line and they give it to finer on an inside handoff and Byner only gets to the 33 now he's about four and a half yards short of a first down with two and a half minutes to go remember when we talked to Tom Oliver Donnie the defensive coordinator in Miami this morning he said the single biggest thing that's been killing us is people have been running the ball on us when we're in our nickel center when it's a passing situation they've been running the ball on us in that time his defensive team there's Oliver Dottie his defensive team plays the run well the biggest play of the game coming up right now for Cleveland and so Schottenheimer wants to gather all our resources and call a timeout here with a fourth down a little bit more than four at the 33 yard line ramaa you have the former backup quarterback of the Miami Dolphins he's the last thing they have at quarterback for the Browns who struggle all year long with quarterback problems going against his teammates 14 years well with Cleveland a loss tonight again it doesn't eliminate them but they've got the game against Houston next week what it does is it forces them to win that game next week to advance to the playoffs and again New England has to be sitting there and the Patriots licking their lips at the prospect of the Miami win because they know they could get to the playoffs just by beating Denver on Saturday Indianapolis would still be alive truck also tried to be the first quarterback to take a drink of water through a glass with his facemask in its position I think been so long since at that on safe to say I think he's a little bit preoccupied [Music] so it's four seven four in the hand I think Shula was saying watch the fit to one of the officials as the Browns come up from the shotgun many times his Strock faced this defense on a practice field they had snap but he picks it up buys time throws to the 7-yard line the catch is made by Brennan unbelievable first and goal and that's how we get to the two-minute warning Rock bobbled the ball had there been any pass rush whatsoever he would not have had time to take that deep of a pattern to Brennan but get Brennan credit to the little possession receiver worked himself clear struck bought the time a lot of patience kept his eye on the receiver and fired it in their super catch or was it a super hit so close a lot of time for them to review it two-minute warning [Applause] taking a look at this cat goula wants to know what the deal is you take a look down does Brendan make the catch or not it's very close but remember it has to be conclusive that's the buzzword on the replay you watch you make the judgment great effort great concentration I think the ball hits him in the thigh pad I think it's a good guess I think that the ball hits him in the thigh pad we've been watching that for two minutes from a number of different angles and none of us are in a position to say did it hit the ground almost lost on that is the fact as they confirm it as a catch was the great work of the Cleveland Browns offensive line to get strike who dropped the ball time to get the ball off and that was a fourth down play so it's first and goal at the eighth Browns trail by seven two minutes ago [Applause] Placido lunges to the 3-yard line second and goalie of all of their timeouts left and late flags here yep well after the play and if this should in any way go against Cleveland what a disaster for the ground against my aunt obviously not [Applause] and half the distance personal foul defense number 55 [Applause] having troubles offensively throughout the season it is the only the Browns in Dallas with three TDs or less in every game they've scored three tonight you know looking for a fourth and the penalties on Hugh Green number 55 and it takes the ball half the distance and a first down in a first and goal at the 1 and a half [Applause] I wonder if it's in the brown best interest the score in a hurry I was just thinking the same thing it's a good news bad news here first thing first of biner to the one this is not the worst thing in the world Oh on second and goal at the one they'd like to take a little well Schottenheimer oh she's very interesting instead of Cleveland taking the time off the clock you think Miami and Marty Miami would take the time out here Marty thought better about calling a timeout he backed off of that nerdery they're gonna let it roll the optimal situation for Cleveland is to score and take as much time off the clock as they can you don't want to give a Reno the ball with a minute no no no no no and so he rescind the timeout regarding you want to score let's not lose sight of that right I mean we're kind of asking for everything here second and goal they may need everything they get down to Langhorne 59 second shows the confidence of Marty Schottenheimer has in Don strap on second down goal to go to yard-line Schottenheimer no question at all he'll let strike put it in the air he knows that he'll protect and those he'll cover it hey this is fun and there's nobody nobody in this league can make 59 seconds look longer than Dan Marino you are going to see some pained expressions on the brown sideline when they see how long 59 seconds can be when the football is in the hands of that kind I'm kind of a comeback by the brow rod five out of six two touchdowns boys extra points which was relatively significant irrelevant design the game how about Don struck coming in relief of the injured Bernie Kosar only a couple of touchdown passes what do you expect [Applause] the word possible to combine the room and comfort of a sedan with the performance for a sports car Nissan engineers have been working on such a vehicle introducing the 160 horsepower Nissan Maxima the four-door sports car it hurts sinus pressure and headache it really hurts saina tab combines the painkiller in thailand off with the decongestant in sudafed to give you more than either one alone it stops the pain sign your tab stops the pain when you bite then tame that snappy flavor bites you back and that tingle freshens your breath dentine the gum that bites you back it started a car deserted on a frozen lake for four months and 40 cars after two and a half hours with their lights left on today's die-hard America's number one replacement battery with power to start your car a lot more the season one team with a lot at stake in the Cleveland Browns trying to get to the playoffs another with nothing at stake but the two have made for a perfect combination for the fan 31 all was 59 seconds and Miami with all of its timeouts and the kick goes out-of-bounds - they'll start at the 35 yard line will is often in nine seconds and all three times not a second use their either the ball wasn't touched by one of the Miami Dolphins so no ticks on the clock and the ball clear up at the 35 that is that is not the way to get things started for the Browns and Marino knows let's update Kozar reports second-degree sprained left knee he'll be fitted with a brace and they say is 50/50 that he'll play next Sunday against Houston that's the story at the moment on Cozart [Applause] stop and out of the gun from the 35 [Applause] Lorena Tintin dropped the ball second down don't see that very often do you [Applause] another time of Jensen coming out of the backfield a very simple pattern the ball just a little bit behind him and Mike Johnson you see number 59 late getting there and for some reason the brown linebackers are just perplexed by this very simple pass routes of people coming out of the backfield for Miami four receivers to the dolphin second intent on the 35 the merino fires - who else fart quake me past the first sound now he's Dustin now he does together the flag is thrown at the 47 yard line he was across the 45 in team back picked it up again and we'll see about the penalty he indicates somebody grabbed his facemask Bradburn indicates it anyway [Applause] facemask defense number 36 Steven Bragg allows the execution in poor timing [Applause] that'll help the cause the dolphins I thought it was a clip myself when we saw Jensen coming back to get into the play I think Shui T's number 81 comes back in watch him come in and put a clip on Felix right boy when the heads behind the guy that's I think a lot of ways the Cleveland Browns thought that that's what the call was going to be when they saw the flag not a facemask first down at the 47 yard line [Applause] Moreno going for all four things touchdown one one one official signals fetch down on the understand he went out he inside the one but the official of the field judge signals touchdown but the back judge overruled you're right Alan he did signal touchdown but he clearly went out at the one foot line and what a pass that water catch you can see the back judge he was right on top of it there he spots it and he did go out of bounds right there good a call again Dan you talked about how long 59 seconds could be we've got 37 left the number one pass defense in the National Football League is literally being brought to its knees tonight by Dan Marino I mean just being dissected and eaten alive there is no other way to describe it I hope a lot of people are watching this tonight even as Miami out of the playoff picture as they are seeing almost unbelievable exhibition by Dan Marino we watched him do a lot of things and he has been incredible tonight so the ball at the half yard line and good protection for marino super block by jensen number 11 and right in stride through the former Cleveland Brown yep well maybe they might be looking but as I said the official furthest from the play signal touchdown the one nearest said no the two then conferred upstairs they're taking a peek at it it's problem it's almost academic in a way at this particular point you might say there in field goal range thanks to former Cleveland Brown back in 1985 cut in 86 we watched coming off the bench dime struck get the Cleveland Browns back in at the former Miami Dolphin is we looked once again I don't think there's any question no I don't either Frank I'm not yes [Applause] and Rove A's warming up on the [Applause] sideline I mean you can look at this both ways one we're back to the situation where the Browns would have something to a little time to work with although we're not talking about maneuvering into field goal range we're talking about getting a touchdown to the time and if you're Miami anything can happen if you don't have it in the endzone a fumbled exchange whatever I mean this is this is more than just a casual look by the officials in the replay booth Miwa Moreno looking at the clock coming to the bench [Applause] they might be discussing a lot of options one of them being a quarterback sneak I don't know what they're just there they've confirmed that the the ruling is correct and we understand Kenny wolf is telling me they're having trouble communicating into the field so they won't be a change into play put some new batteries in the walkie-talkie meanwhile Marino is now over 400 yards he's 30 of 50 the 404 yards meanwhile one of the officials has come over to the sideline to get on the phone up to the replay booth over here on the Dolphin bench and that's always the indication as the umpires communication device is malfunction and we'll get on with this first and goal for the dolphin we know that but the crowd doesn't know that they're going to hear it in a moment [Applause] there can't be any doubt from what our cameras are telling us up here after further review please fans it's all completed pass first down inside the one against 37 seconds remaining a lot of times Ron Davenport has been the guy here but do you risk the bumble that's of course the big question the back dolphins take the lead again Cleveland will get it back with 34 seconds and two timeout [Applause] you know what's going on their dance track is probably talking to Marnie they're probably going back over what they talked about during the weeks John strike who better the former dolphin to discuss what Miami might come up with in some sort of prevent defense [Applause] started off very poorly for the Browns with bars kickoff that went out of bounds Miami got to start right off the bat it's a 35 and then it looked like Miami they remember they threw the pass to Jensen and he drops it extinct in the burrito how do you ever take me under when the dolphins are involved yeah the ACE scored some points in the games they play they score their opponents score the under players love it in the first quarter that the first quarter ended nothing nothing when he does he puts a tempo to the game and he keeps turning it up when he has of going and he's hot like he's been denied he just keeps cranking it down cranking it down and the entire temple the game it speeds up it'll be talk to Marty Schottenheimer he lifted it earlier he just marbled that Dan Marino has no better way of putting it and we asked him last night about the lack of the sax we talked about the scheme of the offense which he also admires a great deal but he said there's been no one like this he said he is as good or better than Joe Namath and releasing the ball those were his words out yep thing is funny Frank kind of fortunes in this business like any business I suppose they they change almost a week to week last time we were in here not only with a people complaining and bolding about the defense but about Moreno saying you know hey Stan's problem is he leveled off flat clothes lost interest why they went they went two weeks without a touchdown and then all of a sudden the last three weeks they've exploded I love the old Reno Fort Lauderdale paper yesterday was discussing the possibility of trading Dan Marino getting draft picks and doing an Eric Dickerson Typhoo under different circumstances [Applause] pervades the kickoff again Cleveland has to boxart now McNeil to the 17 and 29 seconds David Frye makes the tackle Quadra Bay's our travelers man of the year kept that inbound oh nice crank yeah well what he is we always work one in for you more business work in a promo we'll be at the Metrodome next week the Bears champs in the NFC Central and the Vikings who will have all but mathematically clinched a wild-card and I say that and we've brought it up from time to time among the things that would have to happen for Minnesota not to get in is Philadelphia would have to beat Dallas and Minnesota would have to lose to Chicago with a combined margin of a hundred points and in Minnesota wouldn't be him but still though al what's at stake there hopefully by the time we kick it off could be Minnesota's being home for that wild-card game that will to be determined stay tuned from the 18 yard line right at about 24 seconds now and so Cleveland it'll come down to this for Cleveland they'll have to win next week on the lakefront Kosar will be 50/50 at least as of the moment there it is with a win against Houston they punch a wild card and with two losses and one of them would be tonight unless they rally here they'd be eliminated from the playoffs and you wonder how the weather next weekend in Cleveland how that's going to affect the Houston Oilers the team from the south plays indoors it's not going to be easy for them trying to win on Lake here anywhere this time of year it's going to be cold second and 10 Rock and one is picked off but out of bow but Brown over there 17 seconds now and back it comes to the 18 yard line third and 10 but it won't be any colder in Cleveland than it will be at any of the other Lake cities up north for instance what other cities this telecast is presented by the authority of the National Football League it is intended for the private use of our audience any rebroadcast or any other use of this telecast without the expressed written consent of the National Football League is symbolically prohibited you're a bully [Applause] go buffalo all those cities of ncinnati incident hey it was cold everywhere this fancy third and 10 here's finer trying to make something out of a short clip I don't think Cincinnati's one of these great Lake cities but it was colder there than it was some of the other place was talking about the eastern city that are going to be involved in the playoffs meanwhile time out here with number prone to do on occasion good one tonight in Miami and again Cleveland launched tonight nobody flinches nobody's eliminated New England with gene a wild-card spot with a win at Denver what would have to happen for Indianapolis now is to have the Patriots there's new england's possibilities first again Browns losing tonight unless they come up with a last-second miracle so they need a win next week at Denver that's a Saturday game there's Indianapolis now and four things would have to happen the first of which the Browns would lose tonight and they'd have to beat Buffalo who's your dog Browns would have to lose to Euston Patriots would have to lose to Denver and Indy would get in all possibility or is it Houston still has a chance if Cincinnati were to lose the Saturday game to Washington and Houston beats Cleveland not only does use them get in Houston is a division champ and they get a week off person in this league what isn't a possible yeah first and 10 31 yard line [Music] whether trying to get out of bounds and seeing stays in that'll do it [Applause] Miami Dolphins and it ends with a strap between Thompson knocking down biter and then TJ Turner plays Arthur Mackenzie for attempts to I don't think I ever saw Arthur Mercante a sling a guy to the ground before and his best day he couldn't do that but you get you can I'm sure he appreciates your thinking of it the good old are amazing out the big man can throw the little man around so easily did you see that yes that was a one-handed toss by Turner and quite a toss that the Dolphins administered to the Browns here tonight and the clock now it had gone down to zero you saw it superimposed and somehow a second has appeared again a mystery second has made its appearance and with what's at stake for the Cleveland Browns you better believe they'll take it they'll take one more play any time they can get it and they'll take it here help hang it up deep look for that defensive foul period Porter can't end on that the game can't handle that it could get another shot you see it so often in throw football but you'll see it again so somehow someway this mystery second has reappeared well there it is the heat still cold 17 straight jazz wind a night in Salt Lake City the Jazz - Frank laid so just quit yep and I think a lot of you saw that that he mentioned the Shula and Landry and Noel's situation and he said it's funny how those guys all got dumb over the winter huh I don't know that there's ever been a coach certainly in the NBA that could quite equal the sense of humor frankly hi terrific I love the guy greatest lion of wool a couple of years ago having trouble signing one of their high draft choices and waiting says to the press the guy wants a million eight the first year until they in a second I told him hey what do you think you're in college there will be a loss [Music] meanwhile they're trying to figure out where this second has come from I think you talked about a prevent defense there it is looks like a rugby league here one play first out great we got to get a wide shot of this Miami defense here I think maybe only the blip then can shoot this I mean you Jarvis Williams is 10 20 30 45 yards from the line of scrimmage maybe they've got three guys back at the 20 [Music] I think he's overestimating stocks are we may see a bunch of laterals here if we don't see a hail-mary which we're going to start with anyway [Applause] [Music] the game is over I want to tell you something if Reggie Langhorne would have turned around we might have seen a recreation of the Immaculate reception Reggie Langhorne who was trailing the play was beyond it turned his back at Frank did you see that there Adele took a big bounce in the air his way there is Langhorne we can later look at a reggie Langhorne at the bottom now watch him keep on going all the ball hits the ground right there and then comes off the leg Brandon right there initially it looked like it came off Brennan's leg without hitting the ground well the big beneficiary tonight New England they control their fate now for a postseason berth and they won at Denver this is not a real disaster for Cleveland because they still get to the playoffs with a clinic in Houston Indianapolis keeps breathing on a figurative respirator and Miami of course out of the playoff picture but their five-game losing streak comes to a halt and of course the concern over Bernie Kosar he's got to be major and the Cleveland Browns plans so that is the story from Joe Robbie Stadium Billy Hayes and George Diller guys upstairs our crew led by producer Ken wolf break Jan off our director as we wrap it up from Miami where the Dolphins beat the Browns by a score of 38 to 31 you're doing well and we're looking we call
