we have another crash and it's Charlie luck into the wall hard on the main straightaway and we have fire coming out from under that car obviously charlie is not in control of that car it looks as if he may get a stop before making contact with the outside wall but a hard shot for charlie luck in car number 45 and once again coming off of turn number four that's where the incident occurred charlie luckily is out of the car in signifying that he's okay they're letting his car went by about a hundred miles Wow hard hard flow but your luck when they built that fire and got out of the car very quickly there's a fire truck that's our fire truck now Charlie Walter go make sure he's okay yeah he may be able to shake it up here he's uh we have a replay of what happened up in turn number four here he is loosing control coming off of the fourth quarter there we see his tired so left front tires come off the automobile which made him lose control the mp9 retaining ball and when he did that he bent the steering suspension so he has no control whatsoever the Carl is home the court with that if the inside retaining wall and as we saw continued on during the turmoil we're sitting right now the heart is the chief on this car of charlie luck champion on this division and it's going to be a while before we can go back under green because they're going to have to get this battered car off first 13 laps of this event Kenny Burke's losing control in quarter number four early and the most recent accident or Charlie Luck had an encounter with the inside retaining wall also off of corner number four and the fourth-quarter betting seems to be one of the areas in this racetrack to give the drivers of most problems it's going to give the drivers the most problems early on in the event once the race gets settled down in the end the leaders start catching some of the slower cars and lapping them I really think the turn 2 is going to be a problem because high on outside of turn 2 it's variously Jack arute has something for us from the fifth Jack yeah Benny they've removed charlie luck to the infield medical center for the mandatory checkup but one of the things that we wanted to bring the people up-to-date on is the fact that as you know the lemon tree medical telemetry hooked up to his body he's been working with Appalachian State University the human performance lab trying to develop a profile of what a race driver goes through as an athlete so he had the EKG and the respiration and everything all monitored inside the car and you can be sure come Monday morning when they look through that telemetry they're really going to have their hands full well now what about that Benny you've been in accidents before does your heart beat a little faster but you know you're going to hit the wall eye candy you know there's Tommy you sit back in trying to get to they're trying to put something that must be Plexiglas or something there put it over though and tape it on but than it luckily Charlie Luck doesn't appear to be seriously injured although he had been taken to the hospital just for a routine examination we're still under caution here at Donington with 15 out of 147th laps completed the Dixie cup 200 back after this cleanup continues the Charlie accident however we have been given the indication that next time around we will resume with the race and go green again 16 laps have been completed the leader in this moment is Tim Richmond with Morgan Shepherd second Dale Earnhardt there darrell waltrip wet Bodine running in this position Dale Jarrett eighth is outstanding competitive race I remember two years ago it was one of the best races that I have ever seen in my life and last year's race was a good one also you'll recall that Harry get down the it to a has-been number three and now the car is on the inside the racetrack it looks like that's exactly what everybody bf did have an engine problem or you know water problem or some kind of liquid got under the wheels of the automobile and he was able to control it Darrell Waltrip is a guy that really did the job because if we can see him briefly I don't believe it or not but Darrell Waltrip was right behind Morgan Shepherd and was able to afford the moisture and was able to keep the car from spinning and was able to afford Morgan Shepherd while he was sliding around there so the streak in Grand National racing for Morgan Shepherd has definitely ended Morgan Shepherd will not win today's race here it is again Benny there he already has the car sideways he backed in the outside retaining wall and Darrell Waltrip gets behind that Dale Jarrett we can't see it in the fact that they'll Jarrett does spin Jarrett appeared to see the trouble in front of him and got on the brakes and did a half spin to the inside of the track but I believe that they'll continued on dropped out of this race but as for Morgan Shepherd the afternoon is over but I think it's okay people have worked or dried up and get out of the car right now yeah he's moving around yeah organs - getting out of the car here he comes Adam another replay of it there we see Dale Jarrett the other cars slowed down what happened the cars in front of Dale Jarrett slowed down so abruptly that he had to drive off the racetrack on the flat to miss those two cars there he was he he got in the order or spun he just they slowed down he had nowhere to go as a matter of fact I think it's pretty good job before those other two car absolutely Darrell Jarrett who started this race in six five in the Nationwide Auto Parts Pontiac and was running in tenth position when that incident occurred now there is the number 21 car of Larry Pearson going back out on to the racetrack after having made a pit stop and you know the amazing thing about in his pits the fellows calling the shots today is Jake elder the crew chief on Morgan Shepherd Winston Cup car I think Horace Jake right there they call it a suitcase and he's a packet and gone to this a friend national group with afraid we've gone down the road today and uh he was a crew chief for David Pearson many many years ago this path back to 1968 69 when Pearson won the Winston Cup championship JC elder was the crew chief there's Jack arute whoo yeah get in there and talk to those fellows these are two guys that you got a doctor when you see them National primer who has won this year in this division these other winners have come from the regular Winston Cup competition right Morgan Shepherd out of the race already let's get out of the fifth running average 155 155 at that speed it's very very an area takes all the racetracks around that put a slow car there or another car around you you can run art has won twice this year on the grand national circuit he won the first two races of the year at Daytona and had Rocky last weekend at Bristol you recall he finished in second position so he's looking for his third win of the year and isn't this racetrack in looking's up to seven spot already appears to be dropping back just a little bit he challenged for second place for a while but then brought back to fourth and is continuing to fall back although he's staying up in this group of cars right behind cannot record on LD oxer and car number two is in six spot there he is LD a veteran he was a former champion of this woman's muscle and turn number one and recaptures first place he went my turn art with no trouble I don't know Jackie might kick with arts if he's got as far as Richmond certainly has made up a lot of ground and darrell waltrip right behind those two definitely closing in in third place here they are coming off in the fourth corner once again by the way those fourth turn third and fourth turn corners are banked at 20 degrees and the turns they are in right now turns one and two banked at 22 degrees there's Tim Richmond from Ashland Ohio who has recaptured the lead here there is Earnhardt who is running in second position and of course Darrell Waltrip is now Thurn Donnie Allison car number 23 also doing well back in the field to 8/5 now Walter right on the back bumper of Dale Earnhardt will see if these two go at it side-by-side here not this time they go into quarter number one it's single file but Waltrip certainly looks like he is on the verge of challenging for either second or perhaps even first he's passing good cars to get to third spot and he's been able to gain a mr. Phillips when they had a 15-car Lincoln Manny back on the back bumper Richmond and again it's in the corners that Dale appears to be doing so well that car handling very very fine in the corners right on the back bumper of Tim Richmond an even challenge for the lead in the turn but Richmond for the moment hangs on to that top spot the Levi's Garrett Pontiac leading the and Goodwrench pontiac there is Donnie Allison that we mentioned that red and white car run again an eight spot it's good to see Donnie Allison back in my yard good everybody so well Daytona earlier this year he was doing so well but has not competed in all the grand national races this year Donny house younger brother of Bobby ounces of white car right behind Donny is pal Betty seven of Richard Petty so we've got two famous families but what in nose-to-tail out and look at this Earnhardt just blowing around him Betty Oh an impressive impressive past there in turn number three Earnhardt hasn't been impressive all day long and that's the 21 car David Pearson there lap and one and oh man hurt our chests stood on the button and went by rich but like II was sitting still there for the moment although now ten is not letting Dale get away with anything Tim Richmond now beginning to fall back just a little bit and Earnhardt stretching out the lead as we have completed 56 out of 147 laps in the Dixie cup 200 for Carly any total of 24 laps and now Darrell Waltrip begins to challenge they learn hard for the lead has been the most impressive race car for the past 15 20 laps looks like he's running as well as anyone out Richmond brought the card they thought the engine had expired but it was still running and they there's something right here in the blue box in the ignition system as a distributor distributor cap possibly the wires themselves they're kind of lady right now bring him in behind the wall replacing all those items but they're hoping it may be a caution will come out they could do it under a luxury by so Darryl's won't have to by those cars up in front of it on the inside for the fourth quarter Earnhardt is behind the blue car and again they go into the course now he speaks to the inside of the start/finish line here on the main straightaway we have hits on both the front stretch and the back stretch here at Darlington n has been apparently on the back stretch he's going to try to make it over there about the same area of the racetrack does Morgan Shepherd had his problem now here come the leaders into the pits Dale Earnhardt followed by Darrell Waltrip we'll see who gets in and out first L Earnhardt comes in first locks it up as does Darrell Waltrip they earn our group goes to work on the right side outside tires being exchanged also on Darrell Waltrip machine both cars taking in 22 down is raising the spoiler at the they're banging it back up that means he's the first one down in a way meanwhile they're adjusting on the wedge bolt at the left side of darrell waltrip scar so he's being kept in the pistol completed yet much longer stop by sterile but he really didn't lose that and stops have it made we're still going to yellow for a couple more laps to make sure the it's going to be interesting to see if either car was improved and we have a car spinning Kenny Bouchard looses it on floor he hits the wall to the inside and just about the same spot that Charlie LOC had problems earlier in the race and he for sure this time causes a yellow flag Proctor's very much damage to the mother mommy a little bit of excessive damage as a rider ear but the run right front beam around with his knee damage to the car but I guess the toe-in has probably knocked out I'm told that that the thing is told in pretty badly he's meant to come in and make some pretty extensive cars have dropped out of competition here this afternoon and we have seen at least two cars drop out because of accidents as Waltrip comes in for another pit stop Kenny Charlie Luck and Morgan Shepherd all involved in accidents and you can see the other drivers and there we see Jack Ingram in the pens and Darrell Waltrip both cars changes left-side tires and that's Jack arute has it down in the pits and Benny that was a break because now these guys have got literally four new Goodyear tires on they change the right size just what now that the left sides out despite the NASCAR rule they've taken on corners and they learn art meanwhile stay on the racetrack easily in the event but he only have to do right and the tires aren't worn out worn out on these automobiles certainly they don't wear out in the hundred miles but new tires just have certain adhesion characteristic characteristics it's about them makes a race car feels so much better relatively got into a huddle with his crew to say maybe we ought to come in first I'm going to see if I can get a word with him right now Kurt Waltrip's taking on four tires and you've only got two on the right side why didn't you bring them in the stars raised pretty good right there so we well there you have it a gamble one side of the leaf duo decided to come in for for this yeah but if the car feels okay as Dale says it is why my food because we saw she helped in the decision today you guys came in took on right-side tires then another caution you took on left side tires Earnhardt didn't know is that what made the difference well I wanted to do the tires I had on this car the race we're not very good I qualified on I don't mean it wasn't very good they wasn't as good as I said I had practiced on so I was anxious to get those tires on the car and in all honesty early in the race I could I saw I could outrun everybody and I wasn't too worried and knew when I got fresh tires only a couple rounds of bite that Eddie and Donnie and everybody we're getting out of it and we'd win this race it's just a neat day and they think Budweiser in the course don't forget about colonial bread got ahead at ready that chicken and drink is bear with you've been with the grand national series when it was a late-model sports Mystery's and you won so many so many victories there at the nashville raceway compare the class of competition now Darrell to let's say maybe when you were in it you were the the hot dog well you know the thing is they used to upset me so bad guys like Bobby Allison and even Jack Ingram and Morgan Shepherd a lot of guys who's come to Nashville where I was supposed to be the champ and they beat me and I used to get right upset about that and of course I see why now they had a little more experience than I did at the time and that's really there's no substitute for experience in this game being 39 years old as a blessing it in the hindrance okay tomorrow can you make it to if there was any way that I could get this the Grand National car the Winston Cup car to handle like this car died left the field but so far I have been able to do that this is a this car is a phenomenal record as you know you've done a piece on it before and it's the car won here with last September this the car that Terry Labonte won with in Charlotte and I want it I had to win today because last time it was real interior one I want to be sure I was still up as good as he was anyway but we'll see if he can win two more and tell you what guys I'm gonna be a little late I'm going to get that chicken and and 56 seconds the average feat 123 point four to two miles an hour there were nine cars on the lead lap at the end of the race we had ten lead changes among five drivers and there were six caution flags for a total of 24 laps and no injuries here this afternoon the most serious appearing accident occurred with Charlie Luck and they came on lap number 12 but Charlie was not injured so we anticipate some great action here tomorrow in the Winston Cup race as Geoff Bodine will be starting from the pole position in tomorrow's event and Tim Richmond his teammate will be alongside well
