will the Packers 26 of seven to take first place in the West undisputed leaders of their conference the Bears travel to Pittsburgh to tackle the Steelers the Bears dispel any fear of the left town as Billy Wade shocks the Steelers with a long pass in the opening period John Farrington tucks it in in this 54 yard play terminates on the Pittsburgh one-yard line [Applause] Willie Gallimore puts the final touch to a drive that began with the opening kickoff the Bears assumed command seven to nothing [Applause] and the Steelers tie it up but the Bears come back for the roar Wade pinpoints Ditka desperately need a score now Billy Wade Hawks the pass to Mike Ditka and watch this now Mike takes off one perhaps the most spectacular play of the year Ditka smacks into a host of dark jerseys and simply pulls his way through a maze of tacklers he finally pulled down from behind by Clendon Thomas at the Steeler 1763 exhausting yards the fate of Chicago now rests with Roger LeClair he comes quarter Wade throws to Marconi and Joe jokes the Vikings on the 29 yard play [Applause] Yallah Morris turned loose and Willie went his way inside the Minnesota v as the Bears threatened to narrow that score and Billy Wade burrows into the end zone as the Bears dig into the Viking lead it's now 17 to 10 [Applause] midway in the fourth period the Bears defense forces to break they've been looking for ball to Willie Gallimore but Willie gets spun right into the arms of Sam huh and Andy robust Ellie men met at only a yard so Wade calls his own number of silane behind blocker Mike pile of Yale Jim Patton and Vic puzzlin close the gap so suddenly the ball squirts free and there's the giant C rich Barnes with the fumble but Mike Ditka's diving tackle ends his run now the crowd knows who'll take the center stage why a tiddle with the Giants of the Bears 41 he fakes the handoff fakes the pass and then throws to Joe Morrison in Cincinnati for 11 yards 200-pound Morrison gets another call up the middle for six yards line backer Jill Fortunato from Mississippi State slows him up and little Roosevelt Taylor shoulders him down but now the Bears know they've got unwelcome company deep in their own territory [Music] [Applause] another call another Morrison run fiddles going for the middle he catches the Bears looking in and then why finds Frank different going out with a touchdown pass for Giants return that's perfection and so is the kick the chandler writes home to make the score giant seven bears zero after a mere seven minutes of play here's Chandler back up the tee for the kick that Ronnie bull takes it before and gets 14 yards before Dick Lynch sends him sprawling now it's catch-up football 4-way who goes right the fullback Joe Marconi Patton slipped off a block to bring tackle it's total time to discover the best defense in the league y shoots back but from the right linebacker Larry Morris comes in on a streamliner and down goes by a [Applause] for Alice who won his first pro championship 42 years ago this is football the big loss on Morris's tackle brings in Chandler for a Boomer a 52 yard punt the Johnny Morris takes but those only three yards bears ball Wade signal Gallimore sweep been tough and Barnes a fumble and pestilent good thing [Applause] why a comes back knocking he finds his man stop nur Dell catches 10 a year like this [Applause] [Music] that's a break for the Bears deep trouble' tittle thanks to the rice then flips to the left only there's Larry Morris with the whole world spread in front of him as Mars joke the first 30 yards I wondered if they'd catch me the last 30 I was afraid they wouldn't and phony Greg Larson and number 62 Darryl Dez do the honors the Bears turn to bull from Baylor Sam Huff wrestled him down [Applause] the Giants number 76 John lo vetere gets a shove in the wrong direction as the Bears wait o TD and after Wade Bob Jenks a rookie from Miami of Ohio ties the score now the Bears have their muscles on the moon and when rookie Charlie killeth mumbled the Bears Billy Martin sex Alphonsus for the ball only it gets a traveling notion down toward the goal where the Bears Charlie given survives the Stampede to find it it's great until the Bears are called offside and must do it all over again after the second period starts dump and the ball stay together for 24 good yards [Music] what horse Morrison is back in this time for a three-yard gain and then it's t42 tittle and Thomas tittle gets blasted but Aaron Thomas goes [Applause] [Music] other games put the Giants on the barre3 Morrison starts for the goal but from the left huge Doug Atkins powers his way to the right to slight him down [Music] and here's more pursuit as galloping obradovich charges from right to left Morrison is blissfully unaware of the chase until obradovich makes himself known with a chilling 3-yard lon [Applause] and chilled the Giants are having tried to power plays tittle sets up the Bears he hopes for this but Phil King and the ball get a quick divorce the Giants go ahead with three points Chandler mixed them with a field goal never mind says Hallas the goal line stand shows whose box for back to the bull and the Bears Ronny ball who clutches Chandler's kickoff drop set plaintiff and after ten yards gets roughed himself by barn [Applause] the mares finally give up the ball to the Giants and tittle sends Phil King through a king sized hole but Rosie Taylor smacks him down having found the door to the lich king go back for another visit and another game [Applause] [Music] for the Giants here is disaster on the the shifting grace of the born runner it's 46 yards of duty and maybe a touchdown if Taylor doesn't stop him [Applause] fiddles back massive Atkins welcomes him and such a welcome but Morrison takes the pass and sails up the sidelines he outruns Fortunato temporarily Benny McRae joins in [Music] the ball tumbles loose and the Bears bill George finds aboard just can't believe it's still the Giants ball an opinion that Halas can share with ease for tittles it's one more chance to fix the Bears apart with a pass ticketed for Schaffner only Dave whitsel is the middleman with a vital interception Wade finds Marconi of West Virginia ready and willing with a dazzling cut to go run for 19 yards [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Wade spots Marconi again this time for 34 yards and down to the giant 21 but three more passes fell earthbound for no gain and LeClair's field goal while it was long enough was off the course [Music] after swapping funds the Giants come back on their 35 tittle doesn't fool the Bears there's obrenovic to bring it in [Applause] wayde's mission take the Bears in fourscore wage techniques send bull to the right result barns turns up with a classic tackle but Wade's looking thought [Applause] [Music] morrison starts the giant's rolling with a bull likes print that goes 20 yards and then runs into a tailor-made tackle there's your cold for you as fiddle trans again for thomas and richie Pettibone comes flashing up larceny and mine but butter on the finger number 33 larry moore shakes a finger at the giant tittle ignores him and lets fly the bomb intended for stalling gifford floats on to nobody looking and when he sees shop there he throws incomplete Chandler gets the call again assignment a high kick that'll let the Giants hit the receiver before he goes anywhere success s Johnny Morris who got just two yards but as the fourth quarter open the Bears couldn't mount their attack and the Giants are routing Morrison around left and that's John Johnson number 76 who pursues him and smacks the whole party to earth on the next play Johnson gets another hand on Morrison who toggles on for three yards only to lose the ball a fumble that Ritchie Pettibone is only too happy to take care of [Music] [Applause] now the Bears aim for ball possession bold steers for seven yards and Huff puts him down Wade using a little in-and-out football himself gets away from the line with an eight-yard past the flanker Johnny Morris bull breeze bread and butter for the Bears slices himself another game on the ground but nobody does that forever against the giant ghost the Emerald estelí see the back but Claire sets it up again from the 34 but that's the signal the Giants love no good that big number 76 Johnson just loves to bring down Morrison and here he does it with all six feet five and 260 pounds tittles got a barrel of time time for Schaffner to outrun both Witsel and Roosevelt Taylor at the ball outruns everybody yaa takes the snap ball for a second it pumps up and why I mix a one-handed Republic net gain 2 yards this time tittles got the laces where they belong in his palm and the ball steams into Alec Webster's waiting hands tackle Stan Jones races back to bring him down [Applause] but now the Bears are wise to Webster his draw fly is smothered a little something patented by the defense minded bear though tittles got to go back upstairs Gifford gives us 16 yard pass a home and its first and 10 on the Bears 36 diddle has the field to explore he's all alone and so is Aaron honey [Applause] linebacker Morris the player of the game comes ricocheting in he hits fiddle the past flutters like a wounded duck different slips Fay McCray lights up the rockets to take an interception number four for the Bears now this strategy keeps the ball on the ground but most important keeping Ronnie bull slide by Jim cat cabbage outrun Jerry Hill of RAM and makes his way for 12 big yards who stops him huff and company bull goes back with that churning leg stride that eats up distance and time jimpat jabs dirty stopping with help 120 seconds left nine yet for another score there's only one thing for the Bears to do here it's third down they need the yardage and bull gives the push did he got it the giant stick Lynch gives the word a whole yard of words without speaking one of them from the Bears 43 hunter Bobby Joe Green has one chore left to kick that football as high as hard as he can when he watches he won't go near that ball this is no time to lose it the balls in the giant 1684 seconds or less the race is tightening and tittle let's Thomas catch the first one on the way to the goal shot number two out of the tittle bag a throw that picks up eight more yards but the timeouts are all gone for the Giants now only gamesmanship stops the clock 563 seconds can the Giants do it yes says the tittle McElhenney team with another 12 yard game of the Giants 46 no-huddle just line up fast and then throw the ball near a receiver but out of bound it stops the clock time 39 seconds play tittle to Gifford question was the ball caught in or out milling out time 32 seconds play fiddle to Gifford Rizzo 15-yard gain to the football in Chicago had been overtaken by his younger four halis this was the year of esteem the year when a 68 year old man brought in a great team a team that was for sure on a deadline to blow
