and we found the ants nest [Music] this video is sponsored by simply safe today is going to be a video on this little 1960s truck camper me and jen just picked up it's a clapper which i couldn't find any information on these online it says it's been painted over but uh based on the all the pictures i've seen of other campers it seems to be like early or mid 60s and uh so you know it's definitely a downgrade from the lance that we had uh but the price was right and we wanted something kind of just cheap and unique to to mess around with so anyway gonna do a quick walk around tour and then i'll show you some of the stuff we do you see these windows i guess they got like moisture in them a little bit right here i'm gonna have to do a little bit of structural repair because you can see that started uh crushing in a touch did find some some rot in areas like i pulled down this trim here and then you know there's some rotten plywood behind here but all right so moving on inside seems to be all the original wood and cabinets and this thing smells wonderful smells like an old camper should it's got an old propane lamp somebody put just a 120 volt fridge which is better than nothing and you can see the glass is a little foggy tudors jen looking at me out there it's got an old traveler stove and oven this little sink the original countertop love it looks beautiful doesn't have a bathroom but we could put one in here if we wanted to a little bit of water damage over here uh nothing too severe though i love these windows it has these original glass panes which this one's a little bit loose but this side nice and tight and i love that it's got the stained glass sun's out buns out right that's the camper now we're gonna clean it up a little bit fix some things and go do some camping you gotta get rid of this rotten wood question is how's the water getting back here and i'm thinking through these eyelids somebody put on here probably creeping through and then i'm sure up top too [Music] certainly didn't come out perfect but it's a whole lot cleaner and we'll probably hit it again i think we're gonna be painting this so look at this says clapper back here too jen can i go over clapper with a marker why i don't know why not that's a no why is that hard now it's a no the roof on this camper is actually in excellent condition i walked over no soft spots or problems a little bit of water pulling here it looks like it's actually steel instead of aluminum off to check that in a second but i'm going to pressure wash this and then just pre-show it come in a couple spots certainly not a one-piece roof you can see it's got seams down the whole thing this one i'm looking for the loose spots that are going to blow up with the pressure washer oh yeah get those refilled yeah definitely a steel roof [Music] i've decided i'm going to scrape up everything loose and then hit this old girl with a roof coating because you know what she deserves it and it's just in good shape but definitely in this corner over here it's fine i think one of the worst spots on it but we'll get all this rust off she'll be good to go here's what we got everything loose has been scraped and ready to hit this with the blower then pressure washer clean it up a little bit more and we'll coat it here's the stuff i'm going to use this henry tropicool 100 silicone roof coating so yeah see how that goes on not wasting a ton of time it's gonna go on just like this i'm gonna pour it on and then brush it out oh yeah yeah you like me now not very much probably but it's gonna seal all right we've used a couple inches and that's only how far we got so ah we're gonna have to maybe get a roller instead first half looks good and uh jen's finishing up second half do you think looking good and then with what's left in here i'm going to take it go across the top seam with a nice big fat dribble oh yeah look at that next day ended up using two more gallons to do a recoat you can re-coat this within 48 hours and used a roller that's what i should have used to begin with but really slop chopped it all over the thing and super heavy on the seams so this should basically never leak a lot of moisture in there oh boy it's not gonna look good and we found the ants nest look at these guys and now they're spreading to the entire camper well not too bad it was just all ants up here in between i don't know why he did it like that that was really stupid [Music] it's not bad though a little worse than the other side okay i mean the way he had this corner set up when you jacked up it would crush and like look how rotted the wood was on that jack i just drilled through these because the the legs were seized up but not good she just keeps saying well we got to take this off too we gotta take that off next thing you know we're gonna be down to the bare bones of this little potato [Music] foreign it's not bad looking under here how does it feel is it sturdy yeah give it away go okay oh yeah [Music] well we were making good progress but it just starts it keeps raining off and on summer rain where are you going slowing down what are we doing today going to get a new truck camper [Music] all right so let's just pull up here and go with us all right here's the new camper needs a little bit of tlc but we'll be camping in no time the leisure star 951 oh smells a little interesting oh that floor is really soft first step's gonna be moving this truck so we got one flat tire and hopefully she just fires right up nope ain't got a dead battery let me know if you see this front flexing structure flexing at all a little bit yeah tiny bit tiny bit i think it's fine [Music] all right so we brought the trailer because we were thinking about cutting the whole cab over off it but it seems fairly sturdy so we're gonna try putting it on the ram and get them home [Applause] i've got both sides stuffed tight to give that a little bit of extra support but the fast guns on there secured trailer ended up just being a nuisance but luckily there's enough clearance for it just make sure not to jack knife and turns and we're gonna uh we're good to go jones insisted that we take this old air conditioner even though it's pretty dilapidated but look who i found hiding inside oh who do we got here i'm actually kind of glad we did this because these guys would have went off to the dump looks like maybe two two rats or two mice maybe more massive maybe squirrels i don't know maybe they are squirrels are you ready babe and then just close the top up because they're uh they're getting some baked right now what do you think squirrels right i don't know hold on a little bit more all right now i'm gonna hop off do you have it yeah are you sure okay wait we're not my beer's in there ew we're not done in here you just don't want to step right here ben yeah i see it i see it well this stack is nice and sturdy is it oh yeah are you good it's like a pro all right so we stripped everything out of this free camper except for the jacks we're gonna get those when we go and drop it off the scrap yard and see how much it costs to get rid of it but uh yeah we got a bunch of goodies hot water heater oven range propane tanks steps how about that beautiful what about these things let's grab these now look these bumpers for our camper i think it's gonna fall off on your head this should be nice and sturdy good to go look at her she looks like absolute hell good [Music] the dump ready to go camping that camper weighed 2200 pounds and was only 110 to get rid of it gets like you had like five cents a pound getting some uh squirrel food puppy milk replacer here's an update on the infant squirrels unfortunately only one of them survived it was i mean i think they were severely dehydrated and well that's a whole story on those but this is leo he still hasn't opened his eyes yet we did get you know a heating pad for them so we keep that just over 100 degrees we've been checking their weight and unfortunately a few days after the other two they just they didn't make it so anyway for him we've been tracking his feeding and every four hours he gets three cc's of uh this this puppy milk replacer the powder stuff i'll give him just a little bit more so you can see him eating once he sees this nipple oh he just goes crazy for it or once he feels he can't see actually so yeah that's leo he's a little cutie and unfortunately his brother and sisters are no more for the first time ever in the grass here he goes oh doesn't even know what to think of it he's sniffing around though all right and now quick word about the sponsor of this video simply safe a user-friendly totally customizable home security system that is up-to-date tech and is super reliable on their website you can design it to fit whatever needs you might have with seemingly endless options there's no contracts no hidden fees you also have the option for 24 7 monitoring now if you take a look around my garage you might see why security is something that's pretty important to me i put this system in around a month ago and it was absolutely blown away by how simple every aspect of the installation was right over here i got the main station and if i want to arm this you can use the key fob or the master station but i like this you just hit away and now you have a minute to leave before it's fully armed and when you if you come back in this will go off and to disarm you just hit off or of course if that minute had passed you would have had to put your code in so i've got my door sensor a motion sensor smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector an indoor camera and an outdoor camera which is magnetic mount you can easily view all these cameras from your app too which is awesome if you're looking for a good home security system you should definitely check them out i'll drop that link down below simply safe.com forward slash no-nonsense know-how where you can get 30 or better all for your system let's jump back into the video now working on the other side you can see she's putting these pocket screws in and reframing we cut out all the rot that's just the plywood we're getting rid of all that too and i'm going to be redoing on the inside but it will look like this side which we just finished up so got this all framed out with uh pressure treated nice true and straight we had to change quite a bit to get it true and straight but yeah that's how it's looking right baby yep getting rid of the original window i had to cut these vertical supports though but i'm going to sister them up with some plywood i had it's incredible how good a shape the original wood is i mean for being from the 60s look it's got original tag on here trump camper and there's jen's beautiful you got anything set you want to show yourself no there's jen's cute shelf she built came out awesome and she's got some new upholstery too hi what you doing look how good that's gonna look now it's gonna look like new look at that freebie window we got from the junk camper beautiful we're a couple weeks later and haven't been pulling the camera out too much so here's the progress got all new led marker lights installed all the way around we've buttoned up the sides and siliconed everything nice and tight got the jacks these are through bolted in and reinforced on the inside too uh let's see so i put a little s hook in here too and they go down that's not really a proper amount i'm gonna hopefully order some truck camper mounts in the future but the back is uh nice and sturdy i got these pipes that go into the hitch back here so that's real tight and good and these are this the fast gun by by torque lift these are amazing they have a spring inside so they don't like overload it uh but yeah jacks i just been using a jump pack we're not going to hardwire these into the camera because i don't want to drill more holes so i just hook a jump pack up to them and that works awesome let me show the progress on the inside we got all new curtains that jen made she got uh some some fabric from a thrift store it was like five bucks or something some old drapes did a backsplash we got the sink working so it's just like a manual pump oh let me see here let me get this you gotta prime it and once you do there you go sink works good so you got that water tank and we made these little doors here um we got the propane battery which i still have to do some wiring and they'll hook all that up it's just a little water tank in there right now but the utilities are accessible and then under here this is just a little bit more storage we have a table [Music] for that here's that that window i got some new aluminum and uh sorry about this lighting um trim trim that out with some heavy duty aluminum and that came out really nice because we couldn't find any other windows online so that's really really great that she convinced me to save that thing uh and oh yes she did she found a tv at the thrift store for 10 bucks with a swivel mount perfect so we got a little dvd player too found some cute pillows and finished doing the upholstery stained the shelf don't ask me why we have so many paper towels i'm not sure we did a door for the bathroom and check this out we still got to finish painting in here and whatnot just using a bucket toilet you know that's going to be fine uh here's some of the reinforcement we use like 4x4 is reinforced into the frame for those camper jacks they seem nice and sturdy but yeah that is the update we're just about done with this thing and and we're close to using it all we really got left to do is to paint it but i think these jacks were just the best upgrade we possibly could have done i repainted the caps for them and stuff because having these on here makes this camper just so much more convenient than how it was before with these these jacks that you had to either lug around with you or only use when you got home these happen to get loose i can always reinforce some more from the inside or i left them hanging down a little bit and i can use some square tubing weld that on and then that will just go up against the wall and such and since leo is part of this whole story let me show you where he's living now he's inside the coop and this is his new home you can see he's gotten a much bigger and uh we're still giving him you know nursing him giving him milk and but he's been eating some peanuts to only put them on there so i can hold this camera but uh there he goes so he's about eight weeks now i think super healthy he's been venturing outside this coop just a little bit he's learned that the hens don't really like him too much but he still messes around with them and him and turbo are still getting along too and look he's just a little chunker and he's starting to get uh pretty athletic and can jump real good turn it into a regular old squirrel we'll slowly start introducing him to the wild and you are getting chunky buddy i actually bring him out to store sometimes with me too and i just put him down in this pocket check him out if you guide him into there he will go in here and just hang out and he he loves it it's his nook stay nice and calm in there and then poke his head out sometimes [Applause] instead of using a jump pack for the jacks i decided to use some old jumper cables i had these are like those thin cheesy ones that can't even jump a car thin gauge but good enough for this and i got some quick connectors off amazon these are kind of like forklift style connectors they're real handy to have and now you know you can control both sides from here and that's just long enough to work on the back too all right this is going to be the maiden voyage of the camper bringing the car trailer out to go pick up a carport and we'll see how she does and she made the first trek jack stayed on there nice and strong nothing loosened up and we're uh picking up this carport let's see what jen's doing what you doing in here i'm hungry we are locked and loaded i had to get a little crafty to get some of this tied down but everything's nice and secure good to go we camped over at weiser state forest last night at the port clinton track but unfortunately had to cut the thing short this morning because i don't know if you see my eye if you could see that but i got a piece of metal in it and it's painful i gotta go get it taken out of the eye doctor i tried everything oh today is paint day we're gonna get this thing shining i think we're gonna do blue on the bottom and then white repaint the white what do you think baby i'm excited it's looking awesome all right i did a little bit did half the door i'll let her go to town on this and i'm gonna start doing some other patchwork i gotta i got some aluminum here to patch up down here decided to pull all the two buys out from underneath because you can see the previous person just put them in without treating them and what's happening is the water on the bottom of the bed will soak up into them and then into the camper so i'm going to coat these with some exterior ready to zip these two by eights back under all stainless hardware still got some cutting to do but how about that now she's actually the one that does all the cutting like i did a tape line up there but look at her perfect paint lines doing this once the sun shines on this though it looks incredible it's uh not right now doing this this trim here because these windows they're dual pane and they're like i guess they soaked up some water inside of them that looks a lot better got a couple bubbles glued on so when we're jacking we can make sure it's always level sleeping level uh um this has got to be angled a little bit let's see if that'll do it yes that will work [Music] well this is going to be painful but we got to put a vent in for the three-way fridge and we both agree that we don't want to put any more roof penetrations on it so this is what we're doing here we go we still don't have any studs right i'm gonna have to get crafty for this so i got a dryer vent and well you'll see the final product but uh the vent kit that came with the fridge is just it would have allowed water into the camper today's the day finally leaving and we're of course we're doing finishing touches on it we got jen under here painting in the clapper and we're gonna do black around the window too what you doing leo you finding stuff foraging what's up hey final touch downstaters over here helping me put the solar up we got the controller in about to mount it we did some uh some fancy steampunk cap half inch tubing copper look at that oh boy hey mr turbo you remember your buddy leo well he was like get him he don't like him no more there was like whatever turbo's like dude i see you in the yard and it's fair game i've messed your day up buddy turbo oh his tail is kicking yeah he's a little agitated what if i give you scratches huh does that make you feel better all right you're a good boy he is a good cat all right you're free to go buddy all right we're finally done with the camper and ready to leave it's late night but we're gonna get some hours of driving in and hopefully make it out to utah colorado in that area in the next couple days so everything came out good it was a ton of work got the bike and the trailer all loaded up ready to hit the road [Music] i'm gonna pay in here come on seriously here we are two weeks later out on our trip we're just north of moab on off uh willow springs road and there's this free dispersed camping up here one of our favorite spots really because there's lots of trails behind it you can ride into arches national park too just 10 miles down some trails and uh yeah so you know the camper has been perfect throughout this entire trip what do you think jen anything you would change about this camper not at all i love it it's perfect yeah in the end of this video i'll probably plug some clips or pictures from this trip but i am doing a whole separate video just a complete vlog of this trip you know i just kind of document the whole thing and that's going to be on my other channel at our no nonsense no house i'll try to plug a link to that up in the corner or down below in the description uh if you've watched this video this far i definitely appreciate you checking it out uh we both do and yeah that's uh that's a wrap so until next time till the next camper we go bye uh this is no no-nonsense know-how and jennifer sujin all right [Music] wow [Music] all the way up [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] it's really neat time of the year to be up here because you don't you don't have the snowpack yet but look at this fresh snow we got last night and it's let's say the high is probably gonna be maybe 60 today it's probably in like the 50s right now but really nice temperature with this sun you
