[Music] brought to you by almond auctions the worldwide leader in antique tractor auctions retired schoolteacher Darryl McClure needed someone to paint his tractor former student of Darrel McClure John Skoglund Dayton high school class of 79 Chevy ra had just opened his own paint and body shop next thing you know the prettiest little red board you'd ever want to see it's tooling around the streets of downtown dayton dayton iowa that is a real nice job on this tractor John well thank you mr. McClure I guess I had a good shop teacher in school well I don't know well I think John did a good job on the paint and I knew he would that's why I took the 1958 Ford 641 also known as the work master was purchased new by Darrell's father to work the McClure family farm in Grundy County Missouri and we hauled some hay with it and we hauled corn feed for the cattlemen and hogs and he did have a to role planner he used on it the work master was a definite improvement over earlier Ford tractors to me it's a it's an improvement over the to believes which was in 53 this tractor has different axles and these don't tend to leak as bad as the older type of axles did on those sword tractors which bothers our brakes if the oil leaks out into the brakes and you don't have any brakes the eight ends and nine ends all had problems with that and so does the to believe and do you remember having to make this choice either press in the clutch erase the hydraulic lift but don't try doing both at once the older tractors the lift wouldn't work whenever the clutch was pushed down this model would work any time using with with a clutch down it lifts still works don't have any power steering but it read really need it power steering was an option I really don't know how many Ford made of these they're not I know I've seen three of them Darrell's military service and his 35-year career as a teacher kept him away from the family farm and he never got the chance to really know the work master very well not until decades later after dad passed away I wanted something of his that I can keep so I wanted this tractor it wanted to restore it dad passed away in May of 93 and I started the restoration and after I retired from teaching when 96 and I got it painted in 99 so it it's a slow process it wasn't overnight no lucky for Darrell the tractor was in pretty good shape from the get-go he had his dad to thank for that he took care of his equipment it wasn't setting out it was in an open shed open front south front shed but nothing ever set out at night he was always put up every night and the only restoration on it had to be cleaning of the metal and get light sandblasted painted it up got the red to match had a real good color match on the red we wanted to get it so it was real original some people though I've never seen this color tractor they think it's painted wrong they never seen the red tractors of course they only made this tractor from 1957 to 1961 and then they changed back to the gray color with red trim my name is Dixie McClure and I'm married to Darrell and he loves restoring tractors it's true besides the Ford 641 work master Darrell is real proud of the work he did on this allis-chalmers d-17 and I did do 17 series for that I still use on a farm down there mowing CRP and it has all been restored hold on tight honey Darrell and Dixie have a nickname for their little red Ford we call this tractor Henry and why do they call the tractor Henry Henry Ford I guess Henry Ford was a tractor guy so so we called Henry Henry did a lot of work for us we need some help as a meanwhile we get Henry up the Ford a man here was painted by my wife that's a nice work you did on this Ford emblem on the side of it honey real proud of you thank you nice compliment speaking of compliments what does Darrell think his dad would say if he could see the 641 work master the way it looks and runs today he'd say she looks great he'd be real proud of it I have a son that's gonna keep this tractor long as easily as I'm sure I've been offered good money for it but as long as they're never gonna be talking to me when it's old John you really did a nice job on this tractor race I actually give you an a-plus on this boy geez I could have used that back in school I needed that about 20 years ago uh well we got along okay oh yeah yeah yeah thanks you know nepali sats I go okay I'll get her
