surface and on top in a way that steel bars would never be able to this doesn't however make it feel any safer when the largest species of bear in the world decides to attack here a young child is admiring the polar bear enclosure and curiously watching it as it swims in the water as the child stands up the polar bear leaps out and towards the glass and slams into it with its paws understandably the boy has the fright of his life and walks away feeling frightened the however isn't quite done after its first failed attempt and continues to follow the boy along the wall waiting for another opportunity to strike the parents of course start laughing and think the whole thing's funny but it would have been a completely different story if the bear had managed to put just a bit more power into its move and managed to break through the glass number eight water glass polar bears are ferocious creatures and there's a reason why they are seen as the apex predators in the Arctic they're far larger than any other species of bear and with massive paws they are able to swim through the water just as effectively as they can run across the frozen landscape here a young girl is watching through the glass wall of a polar bear enclosure and she learns firsthand how elegantly fast and frightening the animals can be before the clip starts she had been watching the polar bear but her attention is drawn towards her mother who is speaking to her from the side the moment she looks away the bear decides it's the perfect time to attack so it leaps from the water and launches itself in her direction there's a big splash as it slams into the wall and while the girl finds it funny the bear seems to be surprised by what happened it tries to style it out by scratching against the a pointed bit of the rock and the panel shatters it seems this was as much of a surprise for the monkey as it was for the people that were watching and it ran away as quickly as it could before the zookeepers found out and it got into trouble it just goes to show that no matter how many precautions you take when you're dealing with wild animals you have to be prepared for the unexpected luckily on this occasion no one was hurt and no animals escaped and the zoo replaced the glass with a much thicker version number five oh my god while you might think a protective barrier between you and a powerful gorilla means that you're safe there's always that slight panic when they attack just in case the glass doesn't hold here in a wildlife sanctuary guests are watching the animals through a glass bubble which has been designed to give a much closer experience than a simple flat panel could they're looking out and the mountain gorilla is standing close staring back at them and for a moment it's not even entirely clear who's watching who the people are laughing filming and pointing at it then suddenly the gorilla has had enough it approaches the viewing dome raises its hands above bear enclosure they spend a lot of their time in swimming in the water and it's a great opportunity to see how they behave in an environment that's usually beyond our view the bear however doesn't seem to like being watched and has picked up a rock from the surface and swum down with it it launches the rock at the window and you can hear the loud bang as it hits the glass luckily aquarium walls end up fearing for your safety this cameraman was filming for a nature documentary in the Arctic and was staying in a glass paneled feeing dome to ensure that he was safe while recording the movement of polar bears you might think that taking a structure like this with he was overkill but we soon see how wise a move it actually was one of the polar bear sees him and as food is scarce saw him as a juicy meal it starts bashing and scratching at the glass windows desperately trying to break in she rocks him about and tries with all her might to crack open this strange see-through object but ultimately has to give up the cameraman even though he's used to being around wild animals admitted afterward that his fear during the encounter was far more than his fascination in the bear and that he was wishing and praying that he was going to come out of it alive number two shark breaks into ghost cage you've probably seen people diving with sharks inside the safety of a steel cage and may have even experienced it for yourself the problem with these structures though is that they somewhat limit what you can see around you so there's an alternative a box made from toughened glass that offers a 360 degree view and is known as a ghost cage in theory these are just as safe as less steel versions but as in this video shows things can occasionally go wrong but soon after entering the decides to attack in a flash it comes bounding across the ground and slams into the window with such ferocity that it would be enough to make anyone jump back luckily this time it wasn't able to
