village of zimbark northern poland has become a local tourist mecca [Music] the house is constructed entirely upside down and appears to be balancing on the middle point of the roof which is technically the floor this balancing act is actually an illusion as you get closer to the house you'll realize the sight excavation supports the upside down house the outside aesthetics are truly a sight to behold and you can only imagine how difficult it was for the design team when sorting the interior imagine trying to find ways of holding the upside down furniture in place situated at the foot of a mountain the house is a political statement and highlights the symbolic inversions of communist rule in poland it has been standing since 2007 and brings tourists from near and far people enjoy looking through the fully furnished home reading about its history and the reason it was constructed to access the house visitors have to climb through one of the attic windows as the front door is high into the sky builder and designer daniel zapiewski designed the house to portray life in communist poland and how it has turned the world upside down whether you're interested in the history come from under your bed while you're sleeping now it's time for the odd topic i mean come on check out this abode it looks like a super villain secret hideout this place is crazy right this house is home to a billionaire couple and from what we've been told they handed an architect a bucket of cash and said to him we don't care what you do just make the house as unique as you can it's fair to say he crushed the brief right though given his name is theodore it was kind of cheeky of him to build the house in the shape of his own initial the house is also far bigger than it looks with some sections within the surrounding rock and several underground floors including a gym i mean my place doesn't even have clean windows would you live somewhere like this would you ever trust a bonkers architect to build whatever he felt like for you remember to comment down below with the hashtag oddtopic and let us know your opinion in relation to what we just showed on screen and now to the next topic number 14 transparent house located in tokyo japan the transparent house really has visitors scratching their heads right there surrounded by normal everyday brick or wood houses this transparent house could almost be lost in its setting constructed with white wooden frames and flooring the walls are completely clear making this house both appealing and almost invisible the home boasts large glass windows that allow for maximum sun exposure keeping it warm and cozy throughout the day no matter the weather outside but there is a downside and it's a pretty obvious one this home might be quirky and intriguing but it also lacks privacy in fact both the house and its contents are exposed to the neighbors and anyone that passes by this house is a burglar's paradise built and designed by japan's sufukimoto architects it is known as house n a and really stands out with its iconic modern and transparent style the company wanted to build an original house and they succeeded the internal structure branches like a tree and contains 21 individual floor plates over many different levels set over a whopping 914 square feet the house defies all logic it has been designed to resemble a conceptual museum-type structure and has visitors from right throughout the globe under its spell number 13 skateboard house this unusual home is a skateboarder's paradise a private residence in malibu california it resembles a skate park every day here would be like being a kid in a candy store particularly for the skateboard enthusiasts living here allows skateboarders to practice their slick moves to their heart's content it belongs to visionary pierre andre sennheiser goose pas and is the first of its kind the home hasn't only been designed for skateboarders it's also a traditional home occupants can complete kick flips in the lounge or grind along the kitchen bench this house really lives up to its name pas is a former world champion pro skateboard rider and also the founder of edney's a footwear and apparel store that is designed to withstand the toughest conditions of skateboarding he wanted to live in a house where he was able to skate on any area or surface either inside or outside the house must be seen to be believed every single aesthetic has been designed to encourage the owner's love for skateboarding there are skateboard ramps and grind rails all over this three-storied home some areas even have drops of 15 feet now you wouldn't want to stuff that trick up would you number 12 the carrot house when architect jacob schezney of centrala was assessing this property for suitability he concluded that it was too narrow for a driveway but ideal for a house could you imagine undeterred by the size of the vacant lot he proceeded to design and build a house in gap between two existing buildings in warsaw poland the carrot house is just 1.22 meters wide at its widest point and 72 centimeters at its narrowest the building might look extremely tight and cozy but it contains many modern day conveniences the house is only 14 and a half square meters in total and is located in what was once warsaw's jewish ghetto it is cleverly designed to enjoy light from all angles this no doubt helps to minimize claustrophobia you want to see the house however such an issue would be pretty hard to avoid given the three by five foot structure is effectively wedged between two buildings and can only be accessed by a ladder the windowless house is painted white inside and out to portray space and light according to the local council it is too small to be considered a dwelling so is officially described as experimental art although it's designed to feel larger than it is even the fridge can only hold two drinks at a time you sure wouldn't want to be thirsty here a polish art foundation owns the house and artists occasionally reside there funding from the foundation of polish modern art was used to complete the project number 11 hobbit house straight from the set of peter jackson and j.r.r tolkien's the hobbit and lord of the rings comes our next unusual house this is a scale replica of the hobbit house and can be found in other parts of the world not only in a little old new zealand this hobbit house is occupied by a family in wales built by simon dale and his father-in-law the project took only four months to complete with the help of passerby and visiting friends the house was dug into the hillside for low visual impact and shelter the price of the build materials was estimated at 3 000 pounds and took around 1500 hours to complete the detail is something that has to be seen to be believed the stone and mud building foundations and oak frame ensure this home is almost a replica of the one seen on the big screen it's no wonder it's so popular with tourists similarities include straw bales in the floor roof and walls for insulation skylights for a natural light feel a compost toilet reclaimed wood for the floors and fittings and even a fridge that is cooled by the natural air coming from under the house through the foundations this house really is straight out of the movies number 10 old water tower house a love of water towers led architect maro brigham of bam design studio to design and construct this next unusual house like something out of the popular tv series grand designs he turned an old belgium water tower into a modern day living environment but it was no easy task originally constructed from red brick between 1938 and 1941 the solid 30 meter high tower proved the perfect shell and structure to repurpose the interior was gutted and all the unnecessary mechanisms were disposed of support staircases and flooring were added all the hard work was worthwhile with the result a high-tech modern residence that would gain the interest of any potential buyer with all the amenities of a typical house the tower has several bedrooms bathrooms storage space and even a terrace so the occupier can take in the magnificent belgium views it's so great how the the view is changing with every floor yes just keep getting a different perspective yeah this design kept the original brick work and proved a great way to reuse an old long-forgotten building today visitors and locals call it chateau dough number nine brooklyn clock tower house this next unusual house was listed for sale for 25 million us dollars why the huge price tag you may ask well this home is nothing short of spectacular but not for the reason you might think the amazing triplex penthouse situated in dumbo overlooks the brooklyn bridge and new york harbor the apartment is luxurious and boasts several lounges bedrooms a master closet studios and rooftop balconies but that's not all this is the ultimate view of new york city the main floor of the apartment contains four working clocks one positioned at each side north south east and west these clocks double as a 14 foot round glass window at the center of the apartment is a glass-walled elevator which helps guests and occupants move throughout the building once inside this magnificent building you can move through each floor by using the three-storied staircase this modern apartment has an open design that is ideal for entertaining large numbers of guests at once it would make the perfect house for fictional character arthur bach this historic gem truly is a sight to behold and if i had a spare 25 mil hanging around it would be mine number eight the flintstone house yes that's right even the new york times have reviewed the real life flintstone house this unique house comes straight out of the fictional town of bedrock it is located in a small town of hillsboro california in the san francisco bay area and is quite the showstopper the comically themed house is also a historical landmark unfortunately the neighbors aren't quite as intrigued as its many visitors though in fact the many improvements made to this high-profile residence house have actually annoyed them all the renovations over the years have made the home quite distinctive hence the nickname flintstone house and that's a high ceiling and you're sitting here you just feel like yourself kind of small and of course it wasn't always this way the home was once a normal suburban house today having seen significant modifications curved plaster surrounds the outside this plaster has been painted purple and orange making the neighbors cringe you could hardly blame them but it doesn't stop there the flintstone house has circular windows and big cartoon-like doors and even includes a model of fred flintstone and life-sized dinosaur dino in the garden originally the home was a real tourist spot however the owner was sued and had to remove the dinosaur statues signs and other landscaping whether this was due to copyright or just a party pooper neighbor we're not sure but at least the stone age structure still stands so all the renaults weren't completely wasted number seven the dumpster house have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a dumpster probably not right well this next unique house is literally that a dumpster 10 billion people around the world have no choice but to call a dumpster home the perfect shaped house looks like a little metal tent maybe i can convert that into a viable home the initiative called dumpster project was set up in brooklyn california when a designer turned one of those ubiquitous steel rectangles into a unique living space these makeshift homes can be wheeled anywhere the owner would like to sleep within reason throughout new york with the need for change to preserve the environment for future generations people are being set up with the tools required for sustainable living the dumpster project effectively transforms an empty old garbage dumpster into a happy healthy home gregory clone spent four thousand dollars upcycling and fixing up the unusual proposed building the cost only slightly more than an average month's rent in manhattan the initiative focuses on re-imaging of homes portable living and learning ideas and sustaining the environment the dumpster is approximately 33 square feet and contains a modern living area solar panels for lights and heating shelves and a bed it's amazing to see such an initiative take off not a great use for old dumpsters these are a much nicer and safer place to spend your night than a park bench that is for sure number six the giant seashell house the nautilus giant seashell house in mexico city looks like a house you would see carried around on the back of a hermit crab or a small fishy friend occupying it deep below the sea this unique house makes the list of most unusual houses found throughout the world it is able to be used and booked through airbnb and is a truly amazing original house to stay in the seafaring home is considered one of the most sensual houses that you could ever experience the beauty starts from the outside with picturesque 180 degree vistas able to be enjoyed no matter what way you look at the house it still resembles a giant snail or seashell it was built and designed by architectura organica's own javier senossian in 2006. he designed it to blend in with the natural surroundings in what he likes to call bio architecture this was a great thought as it blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape the home features a smooth facade painted in earthy tones and a colored mosaic window feature that lights up the entire living space with stunning rainbow colors inspired by the works of gaudy and frank lloyd wright it is truly a piece of modern day art this structure has something everyone would appreciate number five the boeing 727 hotel have you ever been on a flight and wondered what it would be like to permanently live on board this next unusual house has been made using the shell of a boeing 727 but what makes it even more unique is that it's actually an old restored plane from a crash site the plane essentially crash-landed and is still sitting in the middle of the jungle at first glance it just looks like a plane that has unfortunately fallen from the sky landing in the middle of nowhere and that's exactly what it is the plane has been modernized inside and is now actually a hotel yeah you can rent a space in it for the night how cool it is one of many accommodation options offered by hotel costa verde within the manuel antonio national park located in quapos costa rica if you thought this was too good to be true accompanying the aircraft is also a full restaurant carved out of another aircraft's cockpit this is seriously cool and should be on everyone's bucket list it's now definitely on mine number four the slide house a three-story slide would make for an incredible playground don't you think well what would you say if i told you this next unusual house had a three-story slide not only that but it's inside so you could use it rain or shine 24 hours a day seven days a week that would take me back to my childhood designed and built by architects in japan this house is perfect for any child or adult every day would be a party the plan to build this unique house started when a couple with three children approached the architect to discuss their design idea they asked for a house that would be special and magical for their children they wanted a house that would be cherished and a lasting memory as the children grew older the architects were given a large budget and the freedom to design the house in a playful and imaginative way so they decided to incorporate a slide indoors well why not the slide was then built across all three floors of the house so it's pretty big however this wasn't enough for the designers they didn't want to slide next to a staircase or installing a playroom the slide became an integral part of the house the slide acts as a magical way to access all of the house's three floors the trip down takes seconds as you travel down the entire inner perimeter of the house the slide is so big that the walls holding it up had to be reinforced how amazing would it be to live in the center of a playground sounds fun doesn't it number three the steel house this next house is truly bizarre it is made of a strong cold material that makes it blend into its vast surroundings [Music] turn on to canyon view drive santa clarita and this unlikely and unusual house is the first thing to capture your attention and it's no wonder this home looks like something straight out of a sci-fi space movie it effectively looks just like a spaceship as it is made completely from steel not only that but this very unusual looking house sits amongst the kind of anonymous homes that define american suburbia the blackened steel house rests on four poles on a scruffy ridge its curved and scrapped steel aesthetic houses many windows that look out onto the blue waters of a recreational lake designer and builder robert bruno says that the motivation to build this unusual house is simple it is to build something different and aesthetically pleasing he's not particularly concerned about having a house and he built it because he liked designing and building sculptures this is one of his largest pieces of work the house is currently not inhabited well at least not by humans anyway number two seashell house this unusual house was inspired by the shells we find at the beach the main shell is two stories this space houses the main living areas the downstairs areas contain a living room area and bathroom and the second floor is located up a spiral staircase which models the aesthetics of the outside the staircase leads to the master bedroom a second private bathroom and a balcony when out on the balcony make sure you look out for captain jack sailing on the caribbean sea the smaller shell sits by an enormous heated outdoor pool it contains one bedroom and a bathroom this building is home to some real sea gems with real seashells used right throughout the unique design but the must-see item in this house is the real giant cotshell shower head it's a real find number one the toilet-shaped house the last place i would like to live is in a house that resembles a toilet why anyone would consider it a good idea is also beyond me but hey who am i to judge the toilet-shaped house has a very unique design it involves a 419 square meter structure with two bedrooms two guest rooms and other rooms the two-story house of course features three deluxe toilets funny that the toilet house resembles the toilet bowl the home has a large front section that contains multiple windows perfect to look out over the neighboring bush line sim jay duck also known as mr toilet is the chairman of the organizing committee of the inaugural general assembly of the world toilet association he assisted on the design and build back in 2010. this guy must really love toilets once completed he was interviewed and said the design highlighted the global need for better sanitation it's certainly an interesting way of advertising the fact don't you think located in korea the house is known as heiwu j which means a place of sanctuary where one can solve one's worries this makes a lot of sense if you're related to how you feel when you're on the throne if you have thoughts of building yourself a unique house there are some throughout the globe that could provide some inspiration personally i like the idea of four walls and a roof but others look to break the mold
