special operation forces are the most highly skilled disciplined mission-capable and lethal units in the world they go through a rigorous selection process and training and conduct the most insane and unconventional warfare tasks but some of them are extremely more powerful and lead the pack from one of the oldest special operation units in history to a relatively new one that works in a very unique and different way here are the 15 most elite special forces in the world number 15 indian army ghost regiment no other army in the world has as many volunteers as the indian army and don't think it's because it's easy to join india is simply the seventh largest country in the world and its army has to control this large and wide variety of landscapes and weather conditions some as extreme as the siakin glacier which is at 5 000 meters above sea level so the indian army adapted their trainings so impressively that they ended up having the toughest high altitude warfare school or haws and this school isn't just about push-ups and burpees in the snow they also do telecom infiltration and counter-espionage to put it more into perspective india has the fourth most military firepower in the world and you don't get there just because you know how to ski and shoot at the same time so yes they do have supersonic nuclear missiles traveling 24 times the speed of sound and what's the name of the indian special forces the ghost regiment reportedly their own enemy gave them that nickname since the early 70s these ghosts are so stealthy that they infiltrated enemy lines with tanks without being seen or noticed not that easy even if you do have the lightest battle tank in the world at only 12 tons it is three times lighter than its chinese competition so if you haven't heard about them the hint is in the name before we go on like this video smash the subscribe button and click the notification bell right now or this centipede will crawl on your face when you're sleeping number 14 chinese forces snow leopard commandos the snow leopard commandos is probably one of the youngest special forces nowadays the people's liberation army or pla saw a peak of 5 million chinese soldiers serving in the early 50s now we count around 2.3 million soldiers but the snow leopard commandos was officially created in 2002 pla soldiers have to serve one to two years first in the people armed police but these special forces members are experts in close combat martial arts they climb six floors in six seconds and they easily dive 15 meters down to the ocean and this is just part of their training like leg day at the gym right guys and if that wasn't enough they're supported by a fleet of over 2 000 combat aircrafts and 72 ships and we calculate between 100 to 400 nuclear weapons just in case of course as china agreed to never use nuclear weapons first the snow leopards are also experts in rescuing missions mostly humanitarian performed all around china but they probably also operate in the waters of somalia where they regularly perform anti-piracy patrols who's the captain now huh number 13 the royal navy's special boat service sbs you've probably heard of the sas but have you heard about the sbs yeah the royal navy also has a fleet of 69 ships and 11 nuclear-powered submarines but it also has an elite group special boat service and from the beginning they were destined to work undetected their motto is not by strength by guile you get it maybe this story will help it sink in 1940 the commando roger courtney was at first refused by the admiral of the fleet to have such a special team probably not deeming it necessary it made our courtney want to prove his point so he decided to infiltrate an infantry ship he marked his name on the captain's door and stole a deck gun after showing it to high-ranking royal navy officers not only did they give him a 12-man team they also promoted him to captain impressive job interview roger since then the sbs has kept growing in numbers but its selection process has ninety percent failure rate it's like only one out of ten candidates gets in the sbs has also been conducting reconnaissance rescue and counter-terrorism missions in afghanistan libya or nigeria to just name a few and we've all heard about impressive commandos trainings like 40 kilometer march in less than 20 hours but these guys are also experts in submarine demolitions undetected level 9 000. i mean have you seen a submarine race exactly number 12 pakistan's special services group ssg not a lot of people have heard about the ssg pakistan special services group and most of those people don't even know that pakistan is one of the most powerful military forces in the world in fact it's in the 10th airpower with an air force fleet of over 950 aircrafts and reportedly around 150 nuclear warheads spooky right well in the mid 50s to upgrade their defense against the ussr pakistan created the ssg with the help and training of the us army but in order to get in you need a minimum five years of service in the pakistan army the ssg basic training lasts nine months to two years but statistically only five percent of the candidates get through the selection process five percent no surprise there when you know that for the first class you have to swim 28 kilometers and for the third class not less than 16 kilometers 16 kilometers wait hold my beer anyway we got a video to do so since the 80s the ssg has been sharing their tactical knowledge and skills doing joint exercises with the us military but also with the chinese and turkish special forces and reportedly they helped train the jordanian royal special forces and the iranian cuds force not surprising to hear after that that pakistan is the fifth largest contributor to u.n peacekeeping missions in terms of military personnel number 11 us delta force nowadays the u.s delta force is a very particular one you could say that as the u.s navy has its seals the us army has its delta force of course it helps to have a military budget like the usa has with over 770 billion dollars in military spending yeah that's the biggest military budget in the world right after it there's china with 252 billion and india with 72 billion and with over 6185 nuclear warheads but who's counting right so the us military's actually ranked the third largest in the world with over 1.2 million active personnel currently but when it comes to the delta force from each 120 new candidates only 12 to 14 go through with the selection process and all of them were already army rangers green berets or from other special forces then during and after the operator training course all trainees go through extensive trainings for snipers but also of explosive making and armed breach that's also why the us delta force has also been trained by the fbi and the cia to complete their sets of skills they help to learn more about hostage situations and different espionage related skills so obviously most of the delta forces operation history and details are classified but we do know that they've been engaged on basically every continent and from the declassified documents they confirm they've been behind locating and capturing saddam hussein for example or the capture of the sinaloa cartel leader el chapo number 10 france army and france's national gendarmery intervention group the gign was established in 1973 after the terrible munich massacre they are an elite police tactical unit and their missions include counter-terrorism hostage rescue surveillance of national threats protection of government officials and targeting of organized crime today the gi gn has nearly 400 members in their ranks they were the ones that got mobilized during the paris terrorist attacks in november 2015. their headquarters is in versailles which is near paris although most of their operations take place in france they're allowed to operate anywhere in the world and because many of their missions are top secret the members of the gign can't be photographed in public since its birth the gign has been involved in over 1 800 missions and they have successfully rescued 600 hostages these high success figures makes them one of the most experienced and trusted counter-terrorism units in the world the gign became known worldwide in 1994 after the successful assault of a hijacked air france flight at merce merinian airport number nine italy army and gis the italian armed forces have three branches the italian army the italian navy and the italian air force there's also a fourth group called the carabinieri and they take on the role as the nation's military police the gis's nickname is the leather heads and their roles are mainly counter terrorism and law enforcement they are the special forces unit of the carabinieri the special intervention group was initially established in 1978 as a police tactical unit and since then they gradually became the most elite special forces in the country they are renowned for their marksmanship a gis sniper team normally includes one operator that carries the mouser srs and another operator that scouts or guards and that carries a semi-automatic rifle they've been deployed in the middle east and in particular afghanistan many times for rescue missions and special operations the president of the republic heads the armed forces and the parliament has the authority to declare a state of war if necessary number eight israel army and the saret matt cal the state of israel was founded in may 1948 and shortly after the israel defense forces was created today they're one of the most feared and scary military organizations out there israel's air force is ranked number one in the world due to their space assets cutting-edge fighter jets and their high-tech armed drones and nuclear weapons their army is also ranked number one in the whole of the middle east today there are 176 500 active soldiers serving in the israel defense forces but did you know that the founders of the idf were so incredibly low on resources that up until the decade of the 50s all the commanders earned no wage at all even the senior ones they were also all of them in their early 20s and had to grow their own food in order to survive the interesting thing about the idf though is that it challenges all the preconceptions about the army because it is one of the most informal and least hierarchical armies out there the officers don't come from academies instead they work hard and rise through the ranks also the idf requires conscription meaning that every 18 year old person male and female is required to serve number seven belgian special forces group the belgian defense forces is the national military of belgium and their commander-in-chief is the king of the belgians they appeared in 1830 shortly after belgium became independent from the united kingdom and they comprise four branches the land component the air component the marine component and the medical component since their creation they have fought in world war 1 world war ii the cold war kosovo somalia and afghanistan they have also been involved several times in central africa mainly for evacuation of belgium citizens and for maintaining public order the special forces group is the elite unit of the belgium armed forces and they were created in 1942 at that time they operated alongside the british sas after the second world war their main activity was to look for war criminals today they can be deployed all over the world and they're trained for combat in extreme conditions like polar weather today they're mainly involved in missions in africa and middle eastern countries like rwanda congo cote d'ivoire and iraq number six canadian army and joint task force ii canadia is known for its delicious maple syrup and canadians are considered amongst the nicest people on earth but did you know that their army is quite skilled as well the canadian armed forces as of 2020 has 23 000 regular soldiers and 19 000 reserve soldiers for a total of 42 000 soldiers their commander in chief is lieutenant general wayne ayer the joint task force ii is an elite high readiness special operation forces and they work in collaboration with several other special forces like the delta force seal team six and the british sas they are known for being a highly secretive world-class unit they are mainly tasked with counter-terrorism direct action special reconnaissance and surveillance hostage rescue protective security and foreign internal defense but most of the information regarding the jtf2 is classified and not commented on by the canadian government i mean they're so secretive not even the prime minister knows what they're up to half the time they can operate both domestically and abroad they've had many successful interventions in afghanistan haiti and iraq number five australian army and special air service regiment the australian defense force comprises of the royal australian navy australian army and the royal australian air force as of 2017 the adf has about 80 000 full-time personnel and active reservists and they are extremely well equipped to put things into perspective they had a budget of 34.6 billion australian dollars in the 2017-2018 financial year which sounds like a lot but it's actually only 7.28 of the total australian government expenditure the special air service regiment was founded in 1957 and unlike most of the other special forces they're a branch of the australian army and not of its navy they are also known as the snake eaters and the chicken stranglers sars operators are mainly trained to conduct far-fetched covert and surveillance missions in small teams and ironically also for conducting raids in very large groups as well their main aim is counter-terrorism and peacekeeping operations both domestically and abroad but they have other responsibilities like training of indigenous forces recovery of australian citizens and humanitarian assistance number four spanish army and spain's special naval warfare force spain is one of the most militarily powerful nations of the european union and euro corps they also represent a very important position in nato which had joined in 1982 their marine corps are the oldest in the world and they also have the oldest permanent military units in the world the captain in chief of the spanish army is general king felipe vi the ssnwf or fuerza was created very recently in 2009 it is comprised of the special combats divers unit special explosive diffusers unit and the special operations unit the special operations unit is responsible for maritime counterterrorism combat diving air and amphibious insertion combat search and rescue and shipboarding in other words they are badass as hell they also have a reputation of using these techniques in hostage and pirate confrontation in 2002 the hombres rana or frogmen stormed a north korean vessel transporting scud missiles to yemen and in 2011 they rescued a french hostage from somali pirates let's just say that if one day you fall in harm's way you would be extremely lucky to have these guys looking for you number three eko cobra austria the eko cobra is a police tactical and special operations unit that focuses on counterterrorism and law enforcement it was created in 1978 after a tragic terrorist attack during the 1972 munich olympics the unit is a semi-autonomous body but it's under direct control of the austrian federal ministry of the interior which means they are not part of the austrian federal police the eko cobra has been involved in several hostage rescue operations and to understand just how good these guys are and what they do they are the only counterterrorism unit in the world to register a successful rescue mission of a hijacked aircraft in mid-air and they did that in 1996 before the help of all the cutting-edge technology we have today most of the weapons they use still today are austrian made like glocks and stair in 2020 they assisted in the manhunt of the remaining suspects involved in the vienna attack but their most famous mission happened in 2013. they were involved in the search for alois huber alongside the austrian armed forces huber had killed three police officers and one red cross paramedic in lower austria number two gs g9 germany the gs g9 is the police tactical unit of the german federal police they're specialized in counter-terrorism and they are very good at it in 1972 during the summer of the olympic games in munich the palestinian terrorist group called black september infiltrated the olympic village and kidnapped 11 israeli athletes unfortunately killing two of them the german police lacked the resources and the training to deal with such a terrible situation they even underestimated the number of terrorists involved the german army at this point had snipers but the constitution of their country didn't allow them to use german armed forces on german soil during peace time the rescue mission led by the police was an absolute catastrophe that resulted in the death of one policeman five of the eight kidnappers and all the remaining nine hostages after this international tragedy germany founded the gsg-9 and now something like that could never happen again in their country are involved in many hostage-taking kidnapping terrorism extortion and high-risk arrests they are also deployed in foreign countries as part of a security detail for german embassies in regions with conflict number one russian army and russian spetsnaz the russian army formerly known as the red army has always been an absolute force to be reckoned with let's not forget that even hitler couldn't take them down nor the us army the armed forces of the russian federation are divided in several groups the ground forces the navy the aerospace forces the airborne troops and the strategic missile troops they are all under direct control of the security council of russia spetsnaz is a russian term that can be translated to special purpose the russian spetsnaz or alpha group are insanely good at what they do they have earned international respect and praise even the green berets are no match they're russia's military intelligence service that was created after the second world war when it became obvious that the soviet union was in dire need of immediate intelligence on german land forces at first they were a ground reconnaissance detachment that only counted with 70 personnel today they have hundreds of highly trained fearless fighters specializing in counter-terrorism law enforcement hostage rescue and direct action as you can see the warfare world has changed a
