[Music] are you doing everybody welcome to work live TV and today I want to talk about the signs that your interview went well that it was successful because as soon as you finish that any V you just wanna know now even in the interview know when they say you have any final questions I'm like yeah I've got a question have I got the job you're gonna give me the job but if we got the job just week you don't even have to say it just week one give me something give me something like a bit of a you know it doesn't happen like that that is it it doesn't so here are some signs that your interview was successful and these are things that I've found to be true from my interviews at Goldman Sachs or Barclays HSBC Deloitte as well these are some common themes that gave me an indication that my interview actually went well and it turned out that it did and these are the kind of things that kind of I saw these are the observations that I had along the process so let's start with the first one your interviewer uses your name frequently in the interview now I like this one because it kind of feels like the interviewer is trying to build a relationship and why would they want to build a relationship unless they really liked you and they wanted you to feel comfortable so I think that is a good sign you're not like candidate number 10 you know it's like you're actually there as a person with your name and that feels good and then want you to feel good and this next song feels good is when they talk about the second interview already like you're getting towards the end of the first interview and they start talking about yeah we're gonna bring some candles back to the second stage and it's gonna be next week on like a Thursday or a Friday and you like yeah I'll get out my diary now like when do you want me you know like that feels good and they wouldn't really talk about that unless they kind of wanted you to be brie and kind of available and interested in the entire process to keep you engaged in the whole recruitment process especially when it's a few stages long so I would take that as a good sign because hey if they wanted to get rid of you they're gonna waste their breath talking about a second stage I don't think so and number three he's taking a look at the interviewer does she feel comfortable does she look like she's enjoying interviewing you does he look like he's having a good time have a look at that because you want to see if they feel like they're wasting their time or not because supposing there were sitting in front of a good candidate they'd feel like finally I found a good candidate my problem is gonna be sold I don't bring this person in and continue with my normal week like they don't want to be spending time interviewing just for the fun of it interviewers tend to have other things to do so if they find a good candidate they'll be excited after all good now there is a few caveats to this because they may not want to let you know so easily that you're doing well because they still want to see what you're made of so they're not gonna be like bouncing up and down overjoyed but there's little hints you're gonna see them comfortable they kind of see you see them being really interested in what you're saying like I found when an interview is really interested in the answer I'm giving they kind of stop looking around they're really looking I mean really making eye contact really interested in what I have to say and that is a good sign for me that not only was my answer to that particular question good is that overall they're starting to really fill that connection which is something that gives me a good sign and we can extend that to say well supposing your interview was supposed to be an hour long sometimes the interviewer stays until like an hour and a half I've had that many times it's when I've spent an hour and a half for an interview because the interviewer was just interested in exploring the various projects I've worked on what I think about different areas and they would never do that unless they were interested in you as a candidate people are gonna waste their time so if you're in there for longer don't feel like ah I know like I was being grilled for so long hey enjoy it it's a good I love it when my interviews run over because I know they wouldn't I wouldn't be there unless they really wanted to hear from me so take that as a good sign too but don't be alarmed even if it's a 50 minutes instead of an hour don't be alarmed that's not necessarily bad it could have just mean that they had the information they needed so these are signs these are signs that it could be successful and then maybe at the beginning or the end of the interview if the interviewer actually gets into general small talk or social talk that's a good sign I mean that means I want to build the relationship they want to get to know you as a person you're not just a number like get in is my key questions and get out - do you want to engage with you so enjoy that process as well and I take that as a compliment I mean then say you even if it's something simple like how do you it was your journey here okay familiar with the area where about you from two simple things it doesn't have to be like super like Oh like what's your best hobby you like it can just be something really simple but if they engaging with you in that way that means it kind of you know want to get to know you a bit you know you're not just a number to them so take that as a good sign - now this one really gets you going this is when they give you a tour of the office they show you around I mean you might walk around to the office where the team sits and you might say a quick hi to the team they'll take you around to show you oh look how nice our offices are look how nice that building is just to sell the company to you to say look you're gonna feel really comfortable here you gonna have a good time you're gonna enjoy it the workplace itself is important for your experience so these are all the ways that employers try to sell the job and the company to good candidates they're gonna take you for a walk if they thought you were terrible in injury it's not gonna happen so if that happens to you it's a good sign and then we've got the unspoken aspects to this the body language the rapport building if they nod when you nodded they smile when you smile if they kind of mirror your position that means build rapport that's a good thing they want to engage with you if they would all do it they didn't like something that you said or something really put them off they'd be there they could have their arms crossed they can be looking around looking at their water not gonna be interested that's gonna be really clear but if they're really kind of showing that positive body language to you hey enjoy it that's a good sign now again as I say interview is like to challenge candidates sometimes they try to deliberately look a little bit bored or kind of like a morning bullet they might do those kind of things just to challenge you if that happens now and again don't worry about it if it happens throughout the entire interview that means it could be going badly but if it's positive body language on the whole for the majority take that as a good sign especially the body language towards the end of the interview that's always a key one is even if they're tested you like throughout the interview they'll end on a positive note if they liked you don't shake your hand in a positive way they'll make eye contact they'll smile as you leave those are the things because they want you to have the last memories as positive ones so that you do return for the whole process and that's really key step in terms of timing and then as we look to the future if you were to start the role this is what happened maybe in the middle or the end of your interview is when the interviewer asks you about the decisions you would make say in the first few months or decisions you would make on key projects they want to know what you would actually do what would you be like as a person in that role so he'll we start getting really practical into the detail because they want to really be clear on how you would work in the role this is a good sign this is going deep this is getting into the detail this is them being so curious as to what you'd be like Eva and then you start listing it out you have these examples prepared because hey if you could give them a clear idea on exactly what you were doing they're all huh they're gonna love that it gives them reassurance makes them feel safe that you're gonna take care of all the practical things that you so have examples of that because there's nothing better than an interviewer feeling confident and what you would practically do in the rock next you want to see if they give you a business card or their phone number or their email you know and a lot of my Goldman Sachs interviews they gave me their details I thought is a phone interview they gave me their email address if it was in person and there's a number of interviews I've been to of banks where they've given me that business card to say look if you've got any questions you want to know anything more about the role feel free to call me or email me any time they've been really accommodating if that happens then they want to keep you attracted as a candidate right if there were an interest whatever like now I don't really want to get bothered by calls or emails by this person right if they give you those details that's a sign that hey they interested it you know they want to keep you informed or whatever you need to know so that's a great time and you never know the good thing that I've noticed as well is when the interviewer gives you a sign of the big picture like what's going on more broadly not just in the company but in the actual department area how that interviewer who is probably a manager or a director right how they want to grow their team will grow their business area we never really start opening up into the big picture and where you fit in with that with your experience and they start describing how your experience will be useful to this bigger picture the future developments that they have over the next few years will maybe the next year specifically when they start connecting you with their future plans hey that's a great time that's like hey I need you here to make these things happen and I think you would be a great member of our team right that's what it really means so that shouldn't make you feel really good and then they might literally ask you how interested are you in the role and in the company that's a little really literal way of them saying we really want to know how intro you are here because for them to ask that they're probably interested well right it's a pretty decent sign that they want to engage with you to understand how motivated you are in the role so if you say that if you give your answer and you describe why you're motivated why you're interested in the role and the company and there's a positive reaction to that hey you know what you know you've passed that hurdle and you've ticked that box so that's a real critical part if that goes wrong yeah then we're probably in trouble with it right so get that right you get a punch of reaction boom going up that level of confidence with them and then if the interviewer goes into on the benefits the perks of working at the company that's a real blatant sign as well right that's a them really trying to sell you the company they'll say oh we got great health cover we've great gym membership deductions or we've got a great food canteen area or whatever it happens to be if they're trying to sell the benefits to you that is clearly then saying hey we want you to be attractive to our company so if they do that take that as a good sign and then as you get to the end of the interview if they really liked you I know as you're walking out of the room you may be getting to the reception area where you leave the building you shake hands you make good eye contact they give you a firm handshake the energy feels good and they say we'll be in touch very soon you have that feeling or they want to stay connected it's not like hey yeah nice to meet you see you later it's not that kind of vibe it's a good connection and as if they want to connect with you again soon that is really how good interviews feel towards the end and I've never been an into your any of the banks I've been in where the end of a good interview was felt weird like there's always been a correlation a strong relationship between a good positive end note to the interview and a positive outcome to the interview that's always been consistent for me so far you know so I hope this helps you relax after an interview know that it went positively and you can forget about it until you hear the result because so the amount of anything is IV when I really cared about the job and that's literally you're kind of thinking about it all the time after the interview you really cared about it right and you don't want to be taking up your brain space with that you just want to forget about it and just wait for that call to come through when you get the job so I hope that helps if you've got any questions as always let me know in the comments subscribe if you haven't already and I'll see you again [Music]
