hi I'm Richard Gaiden and I head up a managed care executive search firm called the MMS group and in this video I'm gonna tell you the six signs that say your interview went well so we all know that a job interview is a highly subjective encounter believe me it's not always the person who is the most qualified the most competent or has the best experience that gets hired it's usually the person that does well in the interview that gets hired so if you're leaving a job interview and you're wondering how well did it go here are six very telling signs that will let you know if you did well six signs that your job interview went well you know right after a job interview you're probably feeling pretty relieved that it's all over and you're either confident that you did well or you might even be worried that you bombed it's common for job seekers to go over the interview questions that they went through and the answers they gave and note all the small things during the interview but really how do you know whether you did well or you didn't so I want you to pay attention at least six points and then you'll have a much clearer understanding about how you did in the interview about how the interview went and how well it went so let's let's start with the first one if they give you a firm answer about when you'll hear back and that means that they said I will call you on Tuesday that's a pretty good indication you don't want to hear something like we'll let you know you don't want to have to ask you know when exactly if they say I have an answer for you on Monday morning that usually means they're they've made a decision or you have done extremely extremely well in the interview the second sign is that you covered topics in your interview that went beyond the job description so they expand that their inquiry about your background well beyond what the job description was was just about they didn't ask you just questions that you're in the job you win the job by using the interview to convince them that hiring you will bring all sorts of additional dividends that they didn't expect so if you get into this kind of this discussion that's probably a pretty good sign all right the interview went longer than scheduled this you know seems logical enough you're in and you're out in a hurry you may not have really struck a chord with them but if you hang out for a while and you're talking particularly about talking about things in the next sign that we're gonna talk about but it goes longer say they we're gonna have you there for an hour maybe they have you started meeting people that weren't on the schedule I know that's a little nerve-racking but that's a pretty good sign that the interview went well another sign is that you discussed personal things this could be the best indicator and you've probably heard me say this before it's not the person who is most qualified for the job that gets it it's almost always the person who interviews the best in a job interview particularly if you're speaking with someone that's not a professional job interviewer that hasn't really been trained on interviewing candidates it's largely about personality and when you start chatting away about this thing or that thing if you're sharing jokes laughs if you're talking about personal things yeah and you got to be careful about that in an interview but that's probably a really really good sign that you're doing well that the interviewer likes you and believe me that is a big part of who gets the job that's a great great sign when the interviewer describes their frustration with the person that was in the job before or if it's a very confidential situation it could be the person that's already in the job that's a really good sign as well it's a good indication that they've decided you can probably do a bit job so if you have that interview Eric interviewer comparing you favorably to previous or existing employees then you've likely done a very good job at selling yourself as a qualified person in the interview and then the last one the sixth sign is you start plotting with the interviewer you start thinking about the kinds of things and plans that you'll be doing once you get started you know and it's a good idea to come to an interview with a game plan what would you do in your first 90 days you know if the interviewer is saying things like I can't wait for you to start overhauling this inventory system or start you know building ourselves to or whatever it might be that is a great sign that your interview went well so when you take all of these six signs and you kind of put them together if you're hitting you know four out of five out of the six you've probably done very very well if you're less than four out of the six probably not so well and you need to use that as feedback on what you're going to do on the next interview unfortunately if you do a bad interview you can't take it back it's it's done it's over with you know you there might be a few mitigating circumstances that you can talk to the interviewer about but use this as a guide and I also want to tell you about a resource that we know that a lot of of candidates have worked with us have found to be this very helpful this is a free report you can download it at the link below we don't need your email address or any that kind of stuff five killer strategies to ace your interviews written by a very experienced interview trainer and career coach so I think that you might do well to get that just click on the link below this there's a free download so that's the six signs we're next time you're finished with your job interview go back through this checklist and see how well you did if you're hitting all six then you probably can expect a call back if not if you don't think you did well at all the best the best I would say course of action to take at that point is to contact the hiring manager the person you interviewed with ask them if there's any additional information that they need and do a very very good thank-you note and follow up with them frankly if you blew it on the interview it's not going to be very easy to get back in that's why preparing for the interview is so important in having a some advanced knowledge about how you're going to answer questions if you click below this video there's a link to a valuable resource a probably the foremost book on interview question and answers I really encourage you to get it and study it and make it a part of your interview preparation Thanks
