[Music] it's [Applause] it's game on presented by spectrum sports opening round action of the n-c-double-a women's volleyball tournament and the 12th see the Rainbow Wahine place play host to the bears of Northern Colorado and this is game off presented by spectrum scored for Rainbow Wahine volleyball it's awesome you know wherever they put in front of us we just got to take it one time you know one team at a time to me it doesn't matter it's just how it matters like how you know how well you play how much heart you have you know and you just keep going and that's what this team had this this team is special I'm gonna say it this whole season they're special wherever they put us they say puts us these girls are gonna play their hearts off and tazza gonna love it a very positive Robin amo all right everybody I'm Scott she's Lisa he's Ryan thanks for joining us here this evening for a very special matchup NC double-a volleyball Hawaii and Northern Colorado let's take a look right now at the Hawaii bracket the teams of four teams that are in Honolulu but up first we're gonna see the entire bracket there you seen Nebraska is a five seed they have already advanced as as Missouri earlier a couple of minutes ago San Diego knocked off Washington State in for the winner of the Hawaii Northern Colorado match will match up with San Diego tomorrow night all right let's take a look now at the ABC a full and the RPI there you get a good idea Baylor the number one seed also number one in the RPI and number one in the poll there you see some of the other teams not a big disparity Colorado State hint Rankin's they did not receive a seed and they lost actually earlier today the 11 through 20 you look at Hawaii 18 in the rankings 11th in the RPI but they did capture the number 12 of seed and the rest of the top 25 rice Michigan Washington State UCLA and Texas A&M for Hawaii they're getting a chance to host for the first time since 2013 and for the team being at home is huge [Music] when our name got called it was just kind of like a relief of like oh my gosh like yes we're staying home just because we've been traveling like the past years and I feel I mean I know our team feels like at this point like we've been playing some of our best volleyball especially in the Stan Sheriff and having a sold-out games senior night and so I feel like just the just like the vibe after that we just kind of want to carry that on we've been talking about how our crowd is the best in the nation and all that and to have that crowd on your own side during games is just amazing and I just realized that it's not only the team was playing be doing together all of the stand and it's just it's just amazing I think I think if I would have come here to play against that crowd I'd be scared so that's definitely a huge advantage for us give me whatever team you want and we just play is gonna do what every practice they want but the big thing was I get to stay home with my kids one more week the girls get to play with other fans they get to you know some of them get to play for their families you know and they packed the stand the senior night and for them you know hopefully a fans come back and pack it again for those widdy's girls to play in front of them it's awesome feeling well two weeks ago during senior night we were all talking about the possibilities of Hawaii hosting their RP I was in the right spot but we know the history while the NCAA came through on Sunday they warned Hawaii as they should the first and second round and being at home that that is a big advantage oh it's absolutely huge became an eighteen move up to 12 they sealed the deal when they won the Big West championship so they knew they were in the tourney it was just a matter of where and to be home there is nothing like home there's just that feeling I mean I'm from the Big Island from kilo and every time I get off the plane and I hear the coqui frogs it's like ah it's a relief I mean Hilo it's just that feeling that you're home I don't know what you guys compared to here in Oahu but you know it's just that's nice that sense of relief that the feeling that you get to be here on your whole core playing in front of your own fans and it's not only about playing it's also about the normalcy of your schedule these are prayers they get to go to school this is the final speech for a lot of these student athletes and if you can get pretty crazy so for them to be able to go to class for them to be able to sleep in their own beds it makes a big difference you know I will say that the n-c-double-a didn't do Hawaii any favors you can make a real argument that the first and second rounds in Honolulu is the toughest in the country when three of the four teams are in the top 25 definitely you're gonna notice is that coach Robin amo says she doesn't really want any fingers whoever they put out there she's willing to take them on she knows that she's gonna take care of her team and she's done a great job doing that just security day by day in and out playing whoever is across the net from them and it almost sound like a broken record because I feel like we say this every year Hawaii is probably in the hardest first and second round bracket in the conv in the tournament and we you're in the near out say that no doubt this is the case again this year but coulda ye have that secret weapon with Jolie Rasmussen who's actually warming up right now we'll see what happens if she gets to play tonight she might you never know I know two guys that are ready to go they'll be calling the action but no lying fresh guys all right thanks a lot Scott yeah next to Chris McLaughlin I'm canola Leahy and see Mac this has been part of the conversation all season long was Hawaii putting themselves in a position to host come the NCAA tournament opening rounds and in fact they are the crowd continues to file in here they're expecting it to be a packed house here at the Stan Sheriff Center the question I think immediately for the Rainbow Wahine though is the schedule in the last few weeks has been sparse they've played some good volleyball the last time out couple weekends ago but it's now the age-old question rest versus rust which side do you think the Rainbow Wahine will fall on I think the rest was good for them I think all could use time to heal up some those dings and and some injuries they've had so I think the two weeks off was good on that hand on the other hand they may have some timing issues tonight early on their beasts maybe some communication mix-ups here and there I think they'll be very slight though because they played so well their last two matches of the Big West Conference hey was about is it's about a good of an outing that they've had all year long were the last two outings so I don't think they'll tail off too much I watched the practices this week and they were very sharp that's right and you heard the corner crew sort of hinting towards this there was an interesting individual who was out there with the team in the initial warm-up period for Hawaii they are currently waiting to take the floor once again and that is Joe Lee Rasmussen we have not seen her since the seventh match of the season out nursing an ankle injury but we are under the understanding that she is cleared to play this weekend if need be do we see Jolie Rasmussen here tonight and or tomorrow great question I think we will not see her start at all for sure I think that Robin Romo will reward that starting lineup but the played so well at the end of the Big West championship and I think that we made those see her for a few points tonight if they can if they can squeeze her in just to get her back on the floor and just to get used to her Center and get used to the you know this Teraflex and the crowd and everything else because I do think they need more tomorrow night when they play a bigger team yeah they go up against a San Diego team that knocked off Washington State San Diego with a freshman of the year in that West Coast Conference grace rolling who did not play on the pin so we'll get to that here because Hawaii has to take care of business against Northern Colorado and this is a bit of a reboot if you will 2011 the Bears came down to the Stan Sheriff Center NCAA tournament first round hole what you want by way of a suite but this is a team that won the regular season and the Big Sky tournament championships they have a great service ability in terms of scoring aces numbers are off the charts so Hawaii's passing in ball handling game will be tested absolutely they're ranked in the top 25 in the in the NCAA and service aces and I watch them practice this week they looked at they to look very sharp they have a couple of pin hitters they're really interesting to that to hit from all at all parts of the court not just on the left side they move all over the place so that'll be interesting it'll pose a a bit of a problem for Hawaii's blockers because they have to like lock into certain numbers and then follow them chase them around make sure they get blocks on if Colorado has has passing problems though that's where their trouble will come because Hawaii blockers will be out there on the pins waiting well this is money time NCAA Tournament time and you know how we know it's a big deal see Mack he still has his credential he's official alright we'll see what per serve let's send it back over to the corner crew all right good job Chris because you know those folks around here they check for those Hawaii comes in 24 and 3 on the year but there was a little portion this season on Hawaii had a bit of a hiccup they lost in 3 to Cal Poly that got beat at home against UC Irvine after that the leaders on this team said it's time for us to start stepping up everybody knows we had that little slump in the middle with the Irvine game and Cal Poly you know the Roach fit but like right after that or doing that you know Narine had stepped up a lot and I think you know that's why I'm like ok I'm not taking her hostel course she's a focal point for the girls she's a leader for the girls right now you know she's one of the big ones Bailey is always you know been a leader she's you know on off the court I feel like everybody stepped up a lot of it is thanks to coach Rob she's done a lot for this team and I think it's just we all the girls were just we love hanging out together and it's just such a good we having such a good team spirit and I think that's so important I definitely feel like it was a lot of the senior leadership we had just cuz after that whole lost I mean definitely the seniors all like we all had a talk after about how this is our season this is our team like we have so many like new girls young girls or little babies so we kind of just have to push them to step up at this time because this is our last year and I don't know I would just say everyone did their part on contributing to helping each individual out on the team and I think the coaches did a great job of pushing us to just not give up and anything can happen the scales and weigh in brought to you by Bank of Hawaii we mention Hawaii 24 and 3 they have not lost since they lost that 3 game match at Cal Poly what do you guys think was the different what has turned this team's no us a round cuz not like they really were slumping hard but really what changed I think there was a number of things that happen with those losses I think that Brooke Van Sickle being healthy enough to be a to contribute the way that she has all throughout the season those were some of the games where she was injured and I think overall the losses actually helped to motivate this seem to realize they can just they simply cannot just show up and the team that they played tonight is very reminiscent of a lot of the teams that we see in the Big West they're not big in physicality but they remind me a lot of these other big West seams so Hawaii has got to respect the opponent and I think those losses actually help them recognize that I agree I think so many players have stepped it up they've just done a phenomenal job but also the coaching staff again they've moved players around all over the place the middles have incredibly improved Riley Reich Melissa started was no libero I mean so many things have happened with the leadership I think it comes down to leadership from the coaching staff to the seniors on this team that's what's changed Mourinho Jie that's what it is six rotation player of the year in the Big West Conference absolutely home alrighty we'll take a break but a reminder catch the greatest plays biggest blocks and schedule info by following spec sports high on Instagram Facebook and Twitter you're watching game on welcome back to the Stan Sheriff Center a white out for this first round matchup between Hawaii and Northern Colorado well the NCAA tournament got underway for some teams yesterday and continued today we're looking at the bracket from the top left and we'll go down there you see the scores number one seed Baylor no problem SC Marquette and Purdue winners and there you see how they all advance so the winner of Marquette Purdue will play the winner of Baylor and the USC other scores see that Kentucky easily wins South Carolina beats Colorado stage in five para state had not lost a match since the first match of the season and there you see Washington easily up two sets to none on a Winthrop and so the bracket for that is a good batch of Kentucky Michigan South Carolina go more than light to the plate the University of Washington other scores Nebraska which is in Hawaii's bracket in three Missouri who who I beat earlier this year they went in three San Diego earlier here one in four and of course you have boy and Northern Colorado so Nebraska and Missouri in Lincoln tomorrow and hopefully Hawaii and San Diego in Honolulu tomorrow Texas A&M a rice the UCLA of Teemo might beat this year and with Scots and all winners and so they will make it like this Texas A&M and the rice Texas A&M has already beaten the rice so they'll play the winner of UCLA Wisconsin if Wisconsin wins they will host next week the winner of tomorrow night's match here in Honolulu upper right corner there you have Stanford Cal Poly in five over Georgia Utah in five over Illinois and BYU in Provo takes a fixative at New Mexico State so you have now poly taking on Stanford and how about that BYU and Utah you don't think the NC double-a committee was thinking about anything there how about Penn State they have probably the easiest path as they always do to the sweet 16 SEBI Princeton they'll play Towson next Cincinnati defeats VCU and Pittsburgh the love book shot thoughts they've got a higher seat win so Penn State will play Towson and Cincinnati for play in Pittsburgh finally Minnesota Creighton Central Florida Florida all and dance Central Florida with maybe a bit of an upset so in Minneapolis Minnesota will play Creighton and UCF Florida Florida has knocked them off that's a Thursday Friday and so Florida awaits the winter Minnesota at Creighton here's a final bracket Western Kentucky now I've read that Western Kentucky lost on lines earlier I guess I must've misread it Louisville UC Santa Barbara and Texas [Music] they lost today okay so that was from yesterday so mobile did knock off Western Kentucky Texas got Mike Santa Barbara is fine earlier today and so those two teams will meet up in Austin next week all righty there you see Joe Lee Rasmussen cleared to participate will come back and have more from the corners so the Colorado out the Big Sky Conference they are the champions both regular season and tournament hero there to go play and kylie jo mix doing a great job leaving her team to as an MVP at the big tournament last week and as well as Taylor muff and Lauren Perkins those are the players to watch but I'll tell you what this team is undersized that they're quick and they serve bullets alright those engines time now for the peak performance brought to you by First Hawaiian Bank I want you guys to look into your crystal ball tell me who will be the peak performer for either team should it be tonight well I think for Hawaii's gonna be no Reno see if she can score points of course from behind the service line and offensively as well I think she's gonna have to have a big match and for collar on Northern Colorado I'm gonna go with Huff I think she's going to be the x-factor for them and I'm just gonna go with one player and I think that's gonna be amber IgD I think that she's gonna post a huge block tonight I think emotionally she leads her team when she lights up the rest of the team lights up as well I've been waiting long time to holy the 2013 near capacity all in white the three of us will be back after this one's called the coming up next the match [Music] versus the number 12 seed Big its mettle throughout the 2019 season 18th ranked Hawaii was rewarded a 12 seat and hosting rights to open the NCAA tournament all year the Rainbow Wahine have followed the lead of Player of the Year in the Big West Marine EOC and Conference freshman of the year on a healthy coming up its first round action between the Big Sky Conference champions Northern Colorado and the best in the Big West away [Music] and with that we welcome you inside the Stan Sheriff Center a fairly packed SSD as a matter of fact an old lady here courtside with Chris McLaughlin CMAC take the through the Kaiser Permanente keys to the match well for the Bears this first contact from the Bears get a good first pass they can have a hard to defend offense crossing attackers everywhere and for Hawaii patience is a virtue University of Northern Colorado made big a lot of balls and run a lot of confusing plays on offense but only with patience will allow any have a better chance to prevail there you see a leg out here at the Stan Sheriff Center for the opening round of the NCAA tournament Hawaii hosting for the first time since 2013 and nariƱo SIA the Big West Conference Player of the Year getting things started to begin the match somebody asked me today what do you remember most about marina SIA they said you know what the first thing cuz my mind is her job sort of and elaborations the seven of them in fact on senior night blitzing serve the dish one will be played back by northern Colorado and Taylor month fabulous junior from Pittsburg Kansas second on the team three point one kids per set hitting the bucket she's known as their Swiss Army knife chicken play anywhere on the court it has played him but every position except for tuna ba hitch ride six rotation fair old Big Sky first-team it goes outside it's Anna held wave trying to take the line to the hood too much line misses the floor wide and the Bears on top too will northern colorado comes in twenty six and seven overall seventeen and one is the record they finished in the big sky with the regular season and Big Sky tournament champions let be on a system and a free opportunity here for the Bears they go outside and it's muff against the deep Horner and a strong start here for the Bears love gets a sitting outside of this foot block or fish one blocker she can have a feel they love to get passport so three serving one early this weekend keno on the past tight to the net minute set goes to Amber IgE she misses the floor wide goes oldie and it is for serving one bears and once none of its she signals for a timeout to talk things over welcome back series record is sponsored by aqua Aston hospitality they have only met one time previously and interestingly enough CMAC it came on this floor in the NCAA tournament when Hawaii hosted back in 2011 Rainbow Wahine wind three sets to none quickly finding themselves down for one here in the first frame five all outside goes to hell big order a triple glass and she gets it down in front of Kindle he asked the question in the comedian right a sparse schedule towards the end of the regular season so a lot of rest time but that also introduces the potential of rust are we seeing any of that you think absolutely for helping hit a bailout and Amber IgA hit about the first four points very unusual get touched there on the block on the Mustang i canna Ross from the outside that one dug up by feather in the back row they came back was set the Jade in McCartney and she is denied access commander agee in the thick of things watch amber the last couple days of practice no signs of rest from amber igt she was absolute beast at the neck team leader in blocks and blocks per set his tops in the Big West Conference in that category vex a pig West Conference first teams for her middle commander Park Skylar Williams as well that ball hits the pin and so Hawaii quickly out of the timeout a 300 run the Rainbow Wahine coming in Big West champs for the first time since 2016 twenty four and three overall they finished the league fourteen and two bump set goes right side the hell babe off the block on the Bears will play it back they go middle the Lauren Heinrich she's dug up quick middle set to ITV in with a patty cake mansion of the tape pirates on the side and she goes off the block and a Lauren Hinrich so good one six one redshirt junior a transfer initially from Wichita State he's been all year like slides and quick all Big Sky second team this year and hits for the highest percentage she will make many mistakes it's right 315 percentage for Heinrichs that was a good helvi that wouldn't flush we're tied in five weeks [Music] you may see a few more sets go to help eat tonight because the last two matches she was not the go-to player everybody else got in the MEAC the truth took a lot of pressure off her but I sense that number in CT a timeout she's going to see a few more sets for everybody else IRA Hana Wahine sends the serve into the swine who saw the entrance to the match for Kaylee Joe is 6-1 sophomore actually the team's leading hitter three point eight six kills percent off of the bench interesting hey J the hammer Lucille chases down the set or his to lawsuit locked back good cover thereby Brooke Van Sickle how about that bats a to the left side biosea the wrong the finishing touches on that above the tape is kjn stylish level six serving six here in set number one Bailey Choi one of the seniors celebrated couple of weekends ago fantastic seeing a celebration or stuff past tight to the net but a good job there by Daisy Schultz she is the Big Sky MVP led the league in assists in fact ranked 12th in the NCAA come the end of the regular season in assists ball they're up contain there's no the Colorado takes no prisoners when it comes to survive that's right outside she'll get a second crack at it to the little something off it spin back around but it'll be a and so a point for northern Colorado and they're up to here eight serving six and that is the Scout on the Bears they led the Big Sky Conference in Aces they have a significant ability to score from the service line they go along there but we have already seen on several occasions what you a system see they really serve the ball at a fast pace they take their chances from their risk takers from behind that service line [Applause] gotta win Kurt flying out of those you see again there's an example Volvo and realization you know I think we saw a little bit of a guy Jeannie her crew set out a little bit with helvey heard first it out and then we see the Kinross a service out just a little bit too excited calm down here's your SIA from the opposite side yes for Isis [Music] that team to get to my world man situation its shots like that she was funny it was a spirited and emotional senior night as it always tends to be but especially for Mourinho siapro your player and then she was asked about pasting again here to start the NCAA tournament as CC Union a 16 freshman puts it down for the Bears and she said it kind of feels like oh they went through the whole symbolic very happy to be in the familiar confines of the SSC [Applause] Taylor ELLs in the barrel with the serve high ball goes opposite side so you'll see if it's saved there by ELLs down the line the whole lucky block and for another Northern Colorado point members came to play here in this opening frame she became the Karthik play right side top player injured all year long but she is just one tough quickly keeps coming back out helping this team Joey is outside that sinkhole she gobbled up the line and move towards the middle of the floor and she takes I was able to hover and see you very fertile vision for Brooke to see those two blockers when the mother first Court which is the easiest shot to do instead she goes back down the line shows she has that shot in her repertoire as well in sickle one of three transfers from Oregon averaging two point two four kills per set McCartney down the line list it wide trying to avoid the law Coquina dude nice job of putting my left foot on the line making sure she knew exactly where she was and then when the ball went to her left who was that about yours you'll see again from the service nine Rick passed there by ELLs no set Heinrichs to him save yasiel family needs Okemah sets up how big and help Bigelow ninjas and this first set is time one set by Rico you see they build the ball spinning like that off a jig well Pinot put it right on the money where a healthy that likes it three-oh rainbow wahine run were tied for the fifth time already in this opening set here it comes again from Nerine first of the overpass jumps in front this she's the first to congratulate Ashley should marie garcia believe it all the hard work fair camber is the first one to admit the shia the easy job has kept up and put it down Mourinho CEO of Big West Conference first-team selection all four years in her career which is just amazing that one so it would be point for Northern Colorado McCartney the junior friend on Nebraska twenty-seven aces on the Year knuckled I served here's what man sicker that's pissed in the middle and that's dug up nicely by ELLs the dump shot pancake save yo SIA and it's going to be a net violation called against Hawaii even though it appears that Daisy Schultz had actually fallen across the middle line and so that's going to be a point for the Bears despite the mild protest from Robin Elmo and now concerned for Schultz because she may have been stepped on there by igt well there it goes it was actually the IG DS foot that went across the line first Schultz came down on it and that is always a precarious situation Seema yeah she'll say their most valuable player will strap a player in the league touches every other ball so critical to their offense and their team success you just hope that her ankle gets better with a little bit of rest here I mean already led the league in assists was one of the national leaders in that category she appears to be okay looks as though she is going to continue but how good was she in the Big Sky tournament it was an all tournament team selection but she averages 11 points for 7 assists per set throughout the season she put that up to thirteen point three eight in the Big Sky turning high fall about like YouTube by the way you know why youngest of seven volleyball in the backyard every night they have a 6-minute team every night in the backyard is that why she wears number seven because that was a good question the number she was in the oh hang on there yes walking gingerly but it appears as though she's gonna stick okay 13 surgeon 12 then it will be Jayden McCartney but hidden sends it over you'll see a high and a way to he'll be locked out a small touch on it for the bike feather outside its mark that's dug up biosea so chemo bats blind bump set to he'll be again so trading blows here throughout the first half of this opening set were type of earlier this week she was not gonna look past this no the corral team despite the fact they've been from me from the Big Sky Conference not one of the power conferences they're respecting every opponent northern call now surely playing with the team he needs to be respectful respecting the slide that time was amber idea I think amber got the gist of it again and a very typical amber IgD celebration actually flipped like Ross got the first touch on it on GV sort of finished it all chocolate outside its mutt block good touch their layouts save and sickle here's LV from the opposite side touches it over Ellie's takes on the setting responsibilities mop cross for coyote no see [Applause] look like a traveler she took off watch this so here [Applause] [Music] welcome back you see Daisy Schultz the Center for Northern Colorado they actually removed the ankle brace that she was wearing as well as her shoes and they are reinforcing the tape job they put the brace on top of that and she is back out there sticking it through after appearing to roll her ankle coming down the member i GT cuddles to the trainer [Music] that's on the Bears here in the showing that they posted set up to be like great for Jake's chosen you see man so far and they're gonna call a bathro attacker on remedial C and Robin I'm always gonna argue that the ball was still in La Jolla inside now the officiating crew here tonight Kevin Cole highly Kimora the R 1 and R 2 respectively West cahuachi Dean the line judges so we're tied again here crisp LV from the opposite position all she jumped a little early swung on it while she was coming down caught it back and it goes along so another point for the berries they jump in front this is a feisty battle here and this opening frame really surprised that boy hasn't gone to the middles more and that's a pretty good passes there's a bit outside hitters in the middle is used more early [Applause] Williams get some sets of her three rotations here up front it's as if you're familiar with this game kind of played it before just a little bit we're tied again sixteen seven sixteen Hanuman he named salt touches it over the slide that's Heinrichs blocked back after all set goes to McCartney Hawaii will play it the other way middle sectors to Sky Williams and that's a point for the rainbow wahine a veil in 1716 sky-blue fit lucky day there wasn't a sharp connection the big boy is gonna really be cheerful about the number of self-inflicted wounds they incur due to the over tripping when I call over a groans ation the professional word mage eight-inch blasting at all people on deck so we're tied again we've had seven lead changes in this thing ten times in other words it has been a seesaw back and forth closely contested opening Hawaii hitting 250 compared to a buck 60 for Northern Colorado they have beat up from the service line as advertised case in point great pancake saved by Helbig at least that was the thought for a while the whistle is blown after the fact and they will say to that in fact touched the Teraflex good effort nonetheless by hell beat that again credit for served Laura catters in ski with the service here is healthy be up in the back row only four that's it about this opening Frank she's going from the six rotation player to a free rotation player and think those sohe sluicing her as a back pro attacker is that is the biggest loss there I can see them going back to having her go six rotations at some point though tie ball outside it's insta biotene Oh mother CC hazy Schultz catching the pin side Oh solid block for heads across how many holes in that block right side and much needed or if that my press conference honorable mention this year first time she's received conference pasties and our well-deserved I love the way she shows a lot of confidence run back down this line after just getting blocked outside [Applause] make that Jaden McCartney directed 1.86 kills per set widespread and evenly distributed offensive attacks so forth in northern Colorado very definitely five players with two kids apiece and there is the nasty service ace courtesy Kendall feather that is her 50th pace of the season led the team with 49 through the regular year and that prompts a timeout signaled by Robin mo is Hawaii finds themselves down a pair as we take another look at the ACE this to big good serving team so of it there's no surprises here this is this team serves tough but you never know on balls that drop like when they just get open that those are really tough to handle tough to judge I don't expect that Hawaii adage back to back Robins designed a nice play right now as you can tell she wants her team to come out strong after the timeout well let's check out the First Hawaiian Bank top three and we're looking at all-time NCAA division 1 championship tournament appearances Stanford and Penn State tied for tops all time 39 apiece Hawaii tied for third with 38 and if it wasn't for the anomaly that was 1992 the one Hawaii did not make the dance founder a long time legendary head coach Dave Shoji what happened in there all right let's send it over to Ryan okay thanks guys well here on the sideline for Northern Colorado it's interesting they start off the timeout which each team members in each group positioning talking to each other so the center's talk together the middles and the outsides they all spend the first part of the timeout giving feedback to each other then they meet with the coaches and the coaching staff just told them we need to continue to hit high hands challenge that block for Hawaii and when Hawaii is hitting don't let them use you they say Hawaii outside hitters are small they're known to use blockers don't let them use you back over to you guys a lot Ryan Lindsey Oates hip-deep season atop the program Big Sky Coach of the Year this season to the fourth time in her tenure oversaw the program's transition into Division and the Big Sky Conference back in 2006 and they lead by two right now Van Sickle misses wide and all the sudden Hawaii trailing by three here in the first set a 300 run here for the bearers and some anxiety now pulling through the building the past there by Aquino middle set Williams finds that deep corner so sky strikes again for her second kick it's a two-point test in the first we may see more as going to the middle attackers his highs hit attackers are struggling a little bit now finding the court who saw sky Williams hitting percentage just gaudy 388 within one forcing a Northern Colorado timeout wells a much-needed ace right there Hawaii falling down 2119 who's the a spy Rico so it goes over and just drops as you said got like a bird that got shot over the area dough fell to the ground so again you know I one of the reasons those couple reasons why Hawaii's in a predicament right now one is the two-week layoff there's been some mystery actions in these shots neither securely Colorado's placement good volleyball we serve a really tough both side attackers are good job of tooling around blockers and keeping the ball in play the term stir hair from remember squad 826 wins for Northern Colorado that sets the program's division 1 history record the riding 12 straight wins coming into this one so you're absolutely on point yet they've been playing some good volleyball let's go inside the numbers presented by fennekin and the number here is won the NCAA sub regionals with three ABC a top 25 teams that's right this is the only one in the whole tournament you have 18 ranked Hawaii number 20 San Diego which earlier this evening took down number 23 Washington State in four and I'll tell you San Diego looks absolutely formidable especially with the addition of grace rolling a 6 5 4 s Minh Hin hitter who had 17 kills against the Cougars earlier - by the way did not play when San Diego and Hawaii met to open the season this year a max five cents by the rainbow very good team election practice this week and they were very very sharp especially yesterday factors they looked really really good I wasn't surprised by their win tonight so 21 serving 22 okie no gets it across outside the singles two-month good touched by the Block dug up to the net by okay no little pattycake back and forth well ye now where the fans signal through the double block that's dug up my feather pump set goes to mop on the outside on two knees that one is dug up by Ross chance to go from off the net right there is Elle's bears again in transition not the third time Hawk check the live by Schultz muck have to try to get it across she does for Hawaii there's an example of Hawaii being patient like I said the head until together the show and said boys got to be patient in that rally they just stayed within themselves until the end when they knew they had a great shot amber IG day about his bigger Forsman middle as we'll see all into anybody in this term 3.14 Hawaii we're tied for the 13th time in this first set mop up the hands and down they just keep on working it to Taylor month she's such a great ass high school she was an all-state verbal champ for years 23 serving 22 is going to be returned how I still don't know I GT with the layout pass that saves their bike choice on in transition its back to keep the sequence alive [Applause] by Gd then simplifying the whole the boss TV 22:24 let's set point for water Colorado absolutely right a potential set same they're on the layout by Amber IG - good second touch by Van Sickle as well here's you'll see it took a little something off l2 the past high ball outside its mob and that one's gonna get above the tape a ball for the rainbow [Applause] AGB at 6-3 how bigoted 6:3 it's a solace big block which life can put up right now you need to give Hawaii the block there and the crowd flats you'll see it brings it sir a good pastime off they go right side its McCartney off the block in a temper fate was momentarily we've got ourselves an extensive opening crown first time defendant pretty gutsy said 15th tide of this first stanza - hand pass Van Sickle one hand set you'll see at the dink by igv batted around and returned early here's how they put the swing good save by McCartney down the line middle said it's Heinrichs one hand save your seal well sets a pentacle up one leg was such a difficult goal they did it with Pensacola ball coming over her head she had a one-step take off that was crazy it's like doesn't be a challenge I believe there will be a challenge they're gonna look to see if there is a net violation committed by Hawaii on that last sequence [Music] [Applause] amaura putting the headset on you know it's awkward hearing challenges like this Tamura as the one who's supposed to call the net violation if there is one more so than the r12 top referee so now she's got to look at a replay where she might have to correct herself that's right oh and that's often been a criticism of replay in general across the landscape of sports right is you know they call it a challenge you're basically challenging the officials ruling and so that always has a tendency to not sit so well sometimes with officiating crews but I think everyone by and large is in the same boat we want to see the proper and appropriate call made but it is as you mentioned a bit awkward so far I have not seen any net violations or anything that would construe a net violation there right there that might be the closest one right there does appear as though the Nets shaking a little bit and so that could be a clue but is it conclusive enough becomes the question you know sometimes the net is shaking because a ball is hit it earlier and so it that shaking goes on for a while I don't think it was shaking because of anybody hit the net well how big is this it's either a loja ball Hawaii or a low ball Northern Colorado in the Hawaii [Applause] nice enough probably come on board for Santa so here we go crowd clapping hole I'm trying to close the deal in the first here's my [Applause] 26:24 from a very game and very competitive northern colorado bears sea slugs i've sent two of the NCAA tournament coming up this presentation of Rainbow Wahine volleyball is sponsored by Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Honda dealers Hawaii hit 278 as a team in the first frame CMAC I'll not leading the way with [Applause] I'm afraid to go to Hannah here early tonight watch for the same to be more well distributed I think in this set but for the Middle's to get most in the more sense look at that block up front Hawaii with four blocks to throw the Colorado's with the one a doozy of a set one saw eight lead changes 15 times and Hawaii able to squeak it out in the end 26:24 how important was it for them to win that opening frame here I think is huge I think what to pick a home that in the first set of the night it really makes it makes it tough plus they've got San Diego sitting at home watching and they're resting they're hoping Roy has a five neighbor so why do is rely go five make it help Creek all credit to call going to contradicts waited great volleyball and they could have easily won that one I don't anticipate it getting any easier from Hawaii's vantage point that's for sure not against this competitive bears squad uhf let Excel to you online each week with updates and promotions to its each mail enewsletter to register visit Hawaii athletics calm and click on the H mail button it's simple and it's free no different shells out to the guys you have a game plan John Horiguchi bie mammogram 1982 you cheaper over [Music] 8150 she's 92 was actually addressed the crowd that came just to see John coaching in the big time in the Stan Sheriff Center if he did a great job those two I know did a lot of the game planning for that first set for sure yeah homecoming for a couple of his staff members from Northern Colorado McGeady got the first kill second one goes just long no touch-up run so Colorado I like this little-known fact though about John Haraguchi is that he was her student when you were teaching the third grade you are obviously just a student teacher at the time gucchi on the right scramble play here by her what you lost on the back road bears go outside the muff that goes off the block and so just like the first set Hawaii scored first and then Northern Colorado immediately took the lead they set that time Daisy shots the MVP in the Big Sky [Applause] serve by McCartney spit up there by Aquino oh but Miss time set nobody home in the back Roche hands here for the bears mop through the double block and down moment of miscommunication Endor disarray on the Hawaii side of the mat again there might be a little bit from the layoff could be just maybe some nervousness but how about the swing by Taylor mouth she's got one great arm swing you'll see a outside he'll be straight down to the floor in an old TT that time get some sips he'll remember she's only a three rotation clearing I'm not playing in the back row so she comes in she's got a fresh arm and some fresh legs so here is Brooke Van Sickle nineteen aces on the year Big West Conference honorable mention will seize it Hawaii clean house and the postseason awards can leave this year here's Ross little extra chili pepper water behind that they sense it move [Music] Daisy shots they thought I was a double contact this pound if any you know Benny crowd in the country club is as knowledgeable as anyone they knew that a set night or should have been called that for sure is not well taken using ace by Taylor month she had 37 aces in the regular season and that was good enough for just sold on the team that gives you a sense of just how tough this was in Colorado swab is behind the service line one from 6-8 to first set timeout welcome back let's take a look at the Jack back taking home the Big West hardware intros for sure coach of the year up and on low Player of the Year Marine you'll see a frosh of the year on a healthy and then on the first team you'll see a healthy IG d and millions that you had a su have honorable mentions in addition in case of Robin amo she was officially a coal catch of the year in conference with Ashley Preston of Cal State Fullerton [Applause] [Music] [Applause] zero zero zero two kills two errors and signing out at forty percent not a good number meantime north of Colorado hitting 667 and signing out at a hundred percent on huahine a with the serve for Hawaii trailing by two outside it goes to Joe intz outside Ross gets it down again Makenna raw love the way McKenna's hitting the ball trying to bring the ball down in the court she knows where the block is he's keeping her elbow high and snapping high actually almost trying to go over the block even though she's a little Nia 510 ER with something with great hops here's ins again fourarms save by you'll see a lot the third time but saving the back road there by the bears and then it's just five over what you bought good dig on that sequence by taylor muffins afro I was told that they would not have one week schedule it would not phenomenal final mashed kills amazing it was recognized at the tourney MVP to try to go crossing pattern in the middle to healthy couldn't put it down slide a little off target and hit save Ross - vans @ / diving past there by catters in ski and then inches block back Patterson ski to cover is a second time we're gonna have it whistling against Hawaii annette violation and that'll be another point for northern colorado they open it up to a three-point advantage they're just getting your hand between the Teraflex of the ball a lot of scar you end up picking up a three point later rerun up the first game that goes to lost him off the net had to just roll shot at it boss here's ins again the block had him corn then she makes what he paid aging is living up to her stats three point eight six kills per set tots on the team hitting 278 but what you didn't have any resistance against that one Black Lake Benton out there miss because I think sky winds was concerned about the top of other hitters three straight put downs for instance sickle and a couple of bears defenders looking at one another so much needed side out in Hood good job by burners Colorado what did you say after certainly feeling like they let the first set go to Hawaii bouncing back and here they are in a pretty prime position early on in a second for exactly great resilience good bounce-back [Music] [Applause] [Music] you whose wife said one of the keys in the games Colorado his first contact they get a good first pass their offense can be very dangerous if the ball is passed off past the three meter line ploys block can get lined up there's a good pass isn't flying in rock Bank rattled around it won't be returned a stealth move that time for the rainbow [Applause] olƔ now with five total team blocks compared to one from Northern Colorado bears don't put up a lot of blocking numbers they were actually pink in the Big Sky [Music] conference and a poll run Colorado all of a sudden hitting some rocky turkey usual usual cuz they typically do not self-destruct how self-inflicted wounds are pretty steady this time middle set free chance here for Hawaii can they cash in [Music] and Hawaii jumps in front of the store in five straight and men topsy-turvy set number two here early on welcome back visit the new spectrum store at pearl Highland Center above Sam's Club learn about Spectrum mobile and gets the best devices latest technology and coolest accessories the store is open Monday through Saturday 9:00 to 8:00 Sundays 10:00 to 6:00 well Hawaii has scored five in a row to take the nine-eight lead here in set number two Madi Bremer Reserve middle sophomore from Prior Lake Minnesota into the match he's actually the team leader in lost did not get the start here this evening this job leading that dump shot attempt by William instead she get a piece she did get a touch [Music] when robin tamil is going to challenge that so we'll take a look at that it seemed pretty immediately reaction by KJ intz that there was a touch not a huge debate to that vibe the players on the floor for Hawaii but Robin almost certainly was interested in taking another look at this that would have been you'll see uh it appears getting the touch if there was one no touch poll by the line judge interestingly enough it was Kevin Cole the r-1 exactly sit upon himself to play he's right there about four feet away so if anybody's gonna hear the touch for no amount of touch this could be him and Lorraine yasya and the attacker McCartney no that's intense yeah those are the three people that really know that what the truth is and in a situation like this postseason you're taking that to the grave with you showing your cards here all right well not enough there I would imagine we'll see the official call is here hi Vikki Morra any discussion with the officials table [Applause] [Music] [Applause] can you tell [Applause] [Laughter] shouts what the serve may have been an outlaw played by Ross and that is an ace for Daisy Schultz [Applause] and sliding one of those in the regular season pace number three on the right Tomiko rattles fellows whose food to reality glasses were stuck by inch and were ended the substitution by Lindsey oats bringing Bremer in the team leader in blocks and their next to ends immediately paying dividends nobody trailing by a deuce here's Ross two hands saved there by L into the cross good say volcano Minister Rome [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] transition dig off a downfall dig blows it up to the net force therefore completely Troy descents tiny waves connection between those two is almost always perfect if the sky Williams it's not necessarily about quantity it is about quality and she is three for three pills so far tonight as for that serve again amazing [Applause] [Music] toy to Williams to the drugs Oh baby joy after three years in the pac-12 sitting in the University of Utah knows where her middle attackers are all the time [Applause] crowd quiets as Rico Aquino he brings it over they go right side and partly dug back biosea bump setback though it's lost two hands it across eased by Schultz so highball Bunsen goes to mop up the block and [Applause] [Applause] rado hidden 263 here and in this second three compared to 294 for Hawaii when they leave by two to help they're a service error by petals just this sucker one two lemons right pretty lazy so many chances from here the server side here is a pretty high pace here is marine you'll see you they pass unison its mouth dug up ioki nor she rolls around then tickle off the hands and [Applause] with a save to remember right there so Nolan starts out like Jeannie's the player game before isn't we tokino that dick amazing six kills meanwhile for Van Sickle she is tied with helvey the tax in that step of her lungs passed by Ellis they go outside set to McCartney the dink shot [Applause] on the second touch is able to flush it down beside Tina ran over hands up like hey there's the city got CSS there you go Deenie again just fill in the statute as with the pass you'll see it taking a little something off that time apart and you got piece of the block that by Van Sickle then set comes her way to blockers up to the Bears layout save elves and it winds up in the hands isn't it amazing time and time again confliction of these sets for the complexion of these matches change and shift when Mourinho SIA is the hi see what happens all the time and how about Taylor else and that big keep the play alive for Northern Colorado and they just couldn't quite convert at the end but you're right you'll see it goes back there and it can be a different game she can take over a game all by herself with that jumps over her well Brooke Van Sickle putting up some big numbers for hole and so far seven kills his email but a good for summoners with his hips and his shoes right cuz she's got the hops she's got the volleyball DNA mom Lisa dad Gary no triple for watching on TV right now or maybe there in the arena I haven't seen him this weekend but she's playing some good volleyball tell ya he intends to bring out her best stuff when it matters the most Rip Van Sickle let's send it over to Ryan well the Hawaii poaching stop much happier with their team's effort right now and just the overall attitude with the team right now they're the they're continuing to talk to their blockers about their hand positioning saying they're getting used far too much they want their blockers to really work on staying low and tight and earlier in the time on robben we're really talking to her outside hitter saying hit with confidence sometimes you guys are going up there and look unsure she said go out there this is our house feel comfortable and swing confidently back over to you guys like that advice by Robin great advice lovin Hawaii hitting 350 now here in this second frame they lead by 2 man this crowd here in the latter has just been incredible during the timeout they're doing the wave everybody it seems with the exception of just a sprinkled in few didn't get the whiteout memo I mean just unreal and you know it would be right that's always one of the cases made potentially hosting in the postseason is it's one of the best atmospheres in the country and most certainly the fans with clouds this team if they are there and they they've done so again tonight just amazing support how about there they showed up at the box office at 5:00 Wednesday to start buying tickets here's Van Sickle over the shoulder swing that times I've got by l's month the quick hop which is able to get it TT and been pretty formidable block and get it down for another kill that we embark on here in this second set a month that's number seven I serve them [Applause] [Music] in a seated 12th in the NCAA 18th in the latest ABC AP and off of their ninth Big West Conference title and hip since rejoining the league in 2012 there's not tight to the pinned somehow got it passed i G that was another athletic play my tailor mother good stock in the family right older siblings play basketball opinions of state so it's in the DNA and here she is to serve on cue you'll see if those middle I DD connection not bear Bears play it back its lyrics in the middle and Heinrichs does to be in Northern Colorado reclaims the lead in force swings that we have seen from served number one in this match they're two very evenly matched teams letters work back there for defending side outs nobody really taking large leaves at any point tonight [Applause] [Music] perspiration off of the floor ready to continue 17 servings 16 in the second into the net ago has not tried to take something a little cheaper [Applause] [Music] you big surprise we're tied again and 15 ties in the first round seven so far in this one here's in stretch back into the match we've got a piece and that's gonna be a point for Northern Colorado catches Hawaii off-guard he was retreating there behind the service line again completing a challenge there appears as though she will accept Nepal 18 serving 17 there see it has to chase down the set high balls it outside the Ross off the block and out we can arise five kills she's actually attempted to much swim so far on this man you know their 16th attack yeah we should place front left like that all the broken plays the bad passes and things like that they all end up going to people like her on the left side she's done a pretty good job so far for kill five kills three years then sit outside hints off the block and cover there by Elle's back row it'll be Mother tailor mom why she's a six rotation player we'll send her anywhere anytime she has need much of a run-up either she's got natural hops she take one step close and she's good to go there's up one here's [Music] [Applause] you know blockers up many grammar was headed to the outside tomorrow sorry one the website attacker she's just gone it's all by yourself in the middle open court is running the hitting lines that time may have been enough ball played there on the served by ELLs and then it is McCartney writing the shifter northern Colorado and they get to 21st they did so in the first as TV so spackling chilly high quality volatile this is why they're 17 2000 the conference chase down past there by Ross Van Sickle dug up my ELLs that was sweet and then the partner from the opposite side is dug up then sickly one hand saved over the naiton invent syphilis swinging back okay she took a couple of really good shots these goes up tap sit down but a one before that as well we're houston ripping it down the line we were blind diggers for nearly call around it was popping it up team high 8 kill for Brooke hitting for 38 volcano with the Surrey outside muff comes flying in diving save Ross on the second swing month leaning out of bounds is able to get it down she was floating the antenna and still got a likkle daisy shorts his best set of the night it got a gun away from her sorry looking buff saves it keeps it in play gets the kill come up hill number 10 into the twine and it's tied at 21 [Music] as a senior honest team leader and dibs is that the team in digs in fact each last 18 years set the million Colorado record its 607 digs a year ago here's Yossi forces the overpass hi Jeannie [Applause] [Music] it's the kill but you know what the pelvis give a nice the norine you'll see her every time she does now [Applause] no fear he's a loot cami and she could take over our match like it's a little something off there gets the Bears out of system free ball coming for you'll see you outside Van Sickle down the lane and wide [Music] [Applause] the two blockers up there could have gone the Empire GT in the middle hitter goes back to no big to serve by McCartney and that is shaped it can't Forge a return that's an and we are tied yet again timeout signal by Robyn amo and she cannot be happy about the last couple of sequences an opportunity just given away by Hawaii two moments ago exactly what the shot by Ben sickle down the line just a little bit too excited trying to catch a piece of the block and didn't quite do it the toys tenth hitting error of the night not something robbing amo is used to having your team do they did that early on the year but late in the year they tend start reducing their hitting errors those self-inflicted wounds as you say well for Northern Colorado Taylor muff has just been too much to handle so far four of the rainbow meeting 10 kills hit the three one six attempts and as you have already alluded to doing it from all angles no sugar on the bathroom she's got good service realest art sir she'll hit bottles out of the back door any of the three spots out of the back row she'll he'll hit everywhere in the front row as well she's looked a call like a swing hitter where she'll actually pass the ball as a back roll passer or a front roll passer in the middle of the court and she will audible eyes where she's gonna go she till the setter in the middle of the pass where she's gonna go pretty interesting way to take advantage of her athleticism I'll take your internet with you spectrum Internet customers get three unlimited access to over 4,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the islands and of course one of those hot spots right here at the Stan Sheriff Center now think about this 375 - hitting percentage for Northern Colorado in this second set and doing so against one of the best blocking teams in the country Franco says a lot about the offense just sneaking that one over the tape was the server McCartney furry chance here for the bears they go backside Heinrichs off her one foot that's Douga volcano hi buzz bump set bang sickle to blockers up she's roof denied hundreds and no [Music] the solid block for hands and cause hope to get through that [Music] and boy it is Aloha ball put the Bears in the second set volcano the pass good one you'll see it outside he'll beat two blockers up fingertips got a piece players play it back here's mom [Applause] here in this second set the wheel air from huff that time look right into the hands of amber I James ITT late at the conference and blocks per second almost 1.3 percent here this season 24 ah here's muff IG t got just the fingernail on it but again that middle for Hawaii some of these sets outside the month [Applause] a heavy one block or just a sign to her chance for the Bears once again here in the second you see a middle I'd ZD had to just soft touch it over Northern Colorado goes middle Hinrich gets it down has shown up here in Honolulu and they have proven that they are ready to give this nationally ranked Rainbow Wahine squad a run for their money welcome back let's take a look at the McDonald's match statistics either team could be up to nil here at this stage it is 1-1 after to see back exactly look at the stats because one word you can use for even-steven 30 kills the same attempts equal fairly equal errors the same Hawaii hitting for a little bit better kill percentage blocks boys got an advantage digs about even age there's about even though it's not interesting how this matches unfolded I wasn't expected that the stats would be this even at this stage I really thought the Hawaii might start flexing their muscles a little bit sooner but you have to be a lot of credit to this for the cowboy and the other Colorado team and especially hello Taylor Ellis she leads all dangers with Tana the Hawaii digger has 10 big so maybe some credit to her it looks like Oh looks like we got a new player on the court you want announced the new I can't recognize your who is that back for the first time since the seventh match of the season Jolie Rasmussen on the floor here Tony Rasmussen six two juniors from Encinitas California one of the three transfers from Oregon just the Stan Sheriff Center on fire her debut as a rainbow wahine and through the first few weeks of the season averaging 3.4 kids per set hitting 285 hasn't played until Sept since I should say September 12th against West Virginia in which she got hurt and Hawaii wanting a and the opening salvo Sentinel and so a little bit of a delayed start here to the festivities in set number three welcoming Jolie Rasmussen back to the fray but she is a player who was the Hawaiian Airlines classic MVP early in the year ABC a Big West Conference Player of the Week I mean she was just before she got hurt awesome she had a is she had a big spring as well a big match against Texas in the spring so she the number two ranked Texas now there's the maybe a touch there [Music] you saw earlier a shot of her parents Dean and Gianna pullin from Encinitas yesterday for this weekend's activities I talked to Joey yesterday she was not expecting to play she knows how well that team was playing that finished the Big West season that combination was work so she was not expected to play but if needed she said she's happy she can go to contribute if possible and if Hawaii is you take a look at this hard to tell not sure if there's anything definitive enough to be able to overturn the call here but I think if Hawaii is to get past northern Colorado and it certainly is a big if at this point type one set of piece but if they are and moving on to play San Diego tomorrow it would behoove Robin Mo to get Joe Lee Rasmussen some action tonight just to get back into the timing and rhythm of things but she might have to rely on her to help me this part of this Rainbow Wahine squad tonight [Music] but you can tonight before I was up 2-0 up 15 10 draw a few points but [Music] it was a good challenge you see Robin Elmo upset that she even had to use the challenge in that situation either way an ace to open things up for marina hacia in set number three a must get set number three you'll see going into the net serve number two so we are knotted at one apiece [Applause] just joining us opening round of the NCAA what you default seat hosting here and this sub-regional one set apiece against Northern Colorado and the since September 12 for Jolie Rasmussen is equip them Henderson that she knows she something for is how to help a nice bumps up there Joey gets a nice swing at two person block that is just to go over you know then sit there good sir about the back bump set to muff layout say by Gd again I Jeannie again then adjust at the net by Gd winning that battle but monk will get a swing out of it touches it over save you'll see a back bump set Ross gets it from okay no down how's amber you just don't see many mental blockers layup give up their bodies that much but amber I'm afraid to do so his muffin block that a good chunk there but OB is another kill for Taylor month [Music] she was just the ball soon as she sees four hands across she's not afraid to just challenge it she's fearless out there great after you Hawaii led the Big West Conference in blocks first set they were 26th nationally in that category as Joey so it looks like the timing for the moment is just funning for Julie Rasmussen because she's in for healthy surely be playing three rotations so they are going to over use her for sure Hana Wahine would deserve and that one's shaped a little bit touched over and basically a free chance here for Hawaii here's Ross off the bluff lips he being saved by McCartney down the line highball outside and that is page 8-inch it didn't look like she had any chance of getting it through that Hawaii block and she did so by a volleyballs width of space between the antenna and the block brilliant shot by cage and a huge leap for intz from last season which was her freshman year [Applause] the outside position in splayed just 29 census of 433 kills Lester here she is leading this team in her sophomore campaign and killed consent so as you mentioned Rasmussen to the bench here Bailey Choi with the Surrey high ball outside it's intz block got a good chunk there Choi hi Paul is it outside the Ross players sort of urging officiating crew on somebody coupler Lynette it's definitely shaky that's right a lot they could see that one from the upper deck there's baby joy [Applause] [Music] [Applause] next to Marina she is saying the longer the match goes on I think it'll be easier for the Hawaii middle blockers to figure out this builder Colorado offense because it's got some nuances to it that make life difficult for middle blocker a little unorthodox in some of these approaches here in Spain one of them didn't play off the block there by Choi bumps that goes to Ross two blockers up and ctools so McKenna Ross with her knife kill this tops for Hawaii and that forces we'll take a break as well the senior McKenna doing it well the return of Jolie Rasmussen none too soon here opening round of the NCAA tournament we haven't seen her since September 12th the mansion which Kenya has caught an ankle injury of mr. Wei and Rehab her weight back into the lineup tonight and she obliges CMAC two kills on two swings on the bench at the moment but what does her presence do for Hawaii what kind of options does she provide well I think it provides a lot about each other [Applause] the center's office she could get cheap the the light up to get larger in an instant if she just almost said here's you'll see Allen puts Rasmussen in and there's a number of things they can do to get a bigger light but the small lineup is played so well speaking of large the largest lead of this match for either team a six-o Rainbow Wahine run so they're seven here off of the ace bite Bailey Choi you saw the block by Skye Williams a sequence earlier Hawaii now with seven total team blocks in this match and they're starting to assert themselves dare we say here in set number three block out a good piece there on the slide to CC who [Applause] enjoy applying back set to bed certainly Brooke was already for a pipe son out of the back room brilliant fun as much of a groove as we have seen the rainbow wahine experiencing in this match eyeball pump set those two inch on the outside put everything into it jumping higher hitting harder at the time of her life pretty good for a person who's recruit visible barrel yeah that's right playing her best volleyball in this homestretch of her career a tour run for the Bears it's walk on a good piece again Van Sickle just guarding that back [Music] from that outside that's now 19 in a row here for Hawaii just taking a stranglehold of this third frame another good serve by Toei today Balian short having a field day back there in the getting a sirs form second the team in service aces this season's the lead is 11 one is ten time out there [Music] well capture the greatest plays biggest blocks and schedule info by following specs port I on Instagram Facebook and Twitter's you have people in the Christmas spirit already Jolie Rasmussen bring in a positive spirit to the festivities tonight making her return after a long absence from the lineup and that had to be a struggle for Jolie right bursting onto the scene in her Rainbow Wahine career after transferring from Oregon and then you know seeing this team put together a championship run through conference says Ross sends it wrong was there a touch she wanted it no touch Paul [Applause] just about every rainbow wahine on the floor felt like there loves one wants to burn and another challenge particularly with her team of double digits she's used to already she's gonna save that there for a more crucial part of the game 14 for [Music] [Applause] justice that's what the crowd will likely believe in but again getting back to Jolie Rasmussen the the level of frustration and angst and just that roller coaster ride of emotions throughout the season it must feel liberating and cathartic to be back out there here this evening [Music] just splendid in all facets here in this minute 11 kills hilarous service ace Hawaii by a dozen eyeball bump said this is McKenzie Harris fresh into the match as Lindsay Oates trying to find a spark here maybe get some rest for her starters at the same time you'll see you couldn't get it down Makino the same I want you on the attack got it gosh Sarah very short sentence the most benign quick line I'm afraid that's fire it out to the net to spoilage who was ready skyy Williams Danton thousand prior to the boys got to engage more of those risky sets to really keep the other team's defense honest six kids six wings for sky Williams's prior to tonight sky hitting 388 on a year when I saved there by Van Sickle pumps that goes to yo Co good up there by ELLs on the Bears side [Applause] solo stuff and hold the f-14 what number is serpent on remember IG DS been in on five of those seven just sneaking over the tape by Ross [Applause] [Music] here in the third set and look at this score cement [Music] has to do if the block has gotten better for sure where the card is printed off a little bit offensively isn't passing as well as they were the first two cents here's a good pass in the here second middle and that time [Applause] McKenzie Harris [Applause] and the five-o rainbow wahine runs we saw a double digit run earlier in this set that one ended a 500 Rainbow Wahine run they have just been in charge here in the third and that's announcer [Applause] [Music] what's sort of going through the right try to get some good passes going offense going again because if you just want to able to score points as you can tell five points is his paltry and they're hitting percentage is not very good either roll shop passing out the spatula was Van Sickle II better late whistle as they're going to ultimately say that that hit Nutella flexin it very well may have but there is absolutely no debating that whistle came along after that attempted pancake save the Colorado hitting three kills for something negative that's been their biggest problem the past there by crook behind the head from the toy to IgD getting in on the phone [Applause] I'm afraid do that middle third time she's done that to to learn mythos who wants to have accent the pipe set to Brooke Van Sickle the osya with the serve three blockers up on Harris and Jolie when the second text sends it over scandal play here for the Bears can afford return yes they do three opportunity for the bowls outside BAM sickle my hands kept alive in the back row they go right side again it is Harris blocked back now it's going to be month them off the net right there is Ross on the attack here is Rasmussen and we keep this sequence going right side it goes to Harris Doug that by Rasmussen over the net Harris going to get it down thanks to the feistiness of Aquino Van Sickle dunk that by his diving Hills here's not the deep one hand saved by yoshiya back wall said it's Ross and we play on in the sequence month cross sport diving save Akeno Rasmussen tried to catch him napping nothing doing month again through the broth we got a net the anti climactic finish to rally here in this third grand there's a great example void there here's a great save time by nielsen here's the other side elves again having a terrific night the things trapping the more I lost the rally what's up with that because they appreciate great following exactly there's Joey [Applause] [Music] Rasmussen with her third kill on the side of the Baris eMac you've talked about her defense 13 digs here in this match so far she averages 4.5% how about Hawaii both three players in double figures in digs with 12 we kokino with 12 let's play some pretty good defense 44 digs all together 35 already yet another double-double performance for you'll see a 60 second of her career my tailor month so when you start to break this down and hold looking to close the deal here in the third what has been the biggest difference why have we seen the rainbow wahine erupt in the way that they have here in this third set you think two things one great serving for Chicano and the second thing is this was is getting negative this more errors and kills my blocks to Hawaii in this set zoo of 6-5 the hitting percentage in set three for Northern Colorado overpass Williams couldn't put it down awful one foot its Heinrichs the save by Brooke there's Jolie on the opposite side from her knees it's dug up by ORS Ince how about the dig there by IgD Minnesota's to Williams and the Bears can't for her return we may joke about it it may be at this stage of her career a bit tongue-in-cheek but not far away from amber IPTV being a six main tation middle at some point in her career I hope she watches this broadcast here as you say that a thief but she is doing [Applause] she has been incredible all evening long solo on on set point in the third m11 to close the deal in this match opening round of the NCAA tournament Hawaii f21 welcome back McKenna Ross has been tremendous in this opening round match to the NCAA tournament to seem an all-around effort water kills hitting 280 just solid numbers on the outside and the third set [Applause] five blocks up there ten in the one set in the third set the Manoa roofing company coming alive that's right the Akamai Roofing report the total blocks for Hawaii in this match Tim they have out locked their opponents nine of the last ten matches of the year coming into tonight and their blocks first set numbers two point six as a team the most since 2015 and you remember that was a season where Hawaii actually food courts [Applause] [Music] tonight and see how they do it 0 Syria now in the fourth set no guarantees here were served from show sales he starts off with the Queen easy to kill members say he tries some separation there and then really I see him serve Sai Baba the mall is going the same line up the chandelier I've set it past their instance the set in the outside and she goes off the block and out so Katy is getting the start here in this fourth set the bearers pleads tightly with selecting through the first two stanzas in fact they very well could be made up tool going into that third for easy [Applause] feather pieces leader with the serve prospect bump set goes to Jolin it hits it into the field and see a division-one to the appearance again the transition to the vision one and the Big Sky Conference back in 2006 making their second trip to Peru and here in the NCAA team in 2011 [Applause] [Music] Colorado still seeking their first NCAA tournament win at the Division one level but boy what a season they have enjoyed riding a 12 match win streak match the Big Sky single-season looking at 17 conference wins they have just been awesome throughout and so what you knew they were gonna get a run for their money but it was interesting to see the Rainbow Wahine sort of exact their authority in that third set well I knew they having a great team they're playing 26 24 26 24 this purchase else as you said they to get that one down all right ticket attendance numbers issued 7800 18 through the turnstile 7120 6-sided crowd hearing you imagine tomorrow [Music] that one misses the floor for Mackenzie helis for serving three here early in the poor whoever wins this match as we hit lead a formidable opponent in San Diego about much through the backing down enough continues in Paige here tonight 60 villages [Music] [Applause] I'm ready to send it over you'll see it goes high in a way here's where else as a heavy hit but a good dig in the back row sent over on the second touch low by mufe Rasmussen soft touch is dug up by Ellie's here's mop from off the neck hits the panel [Music] as we had seen we had three arrows all night long and thirty-eight swing so Hughes makes great choices there's quite a selection Sunday for the Rainbow Wahine not only getting word that they were gonna host which was obviously the goal all season now not complaining we can save there by Troy there's Rossi from over the shoulder and she gets it down that is 12 [Applause] this is something that I think reflects kindly certainly on the atmosphere of volleyball around these parts the Big West Conference got three teams in and UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly each getting first round wins UCSB actually taken Texas the two seed all the way to the limit before losing in five they were up two sets to one in the second round match today sky whale there's a lot the strength puppet the ctlt's in the car and join the show as usual how about Cal Poly today Tori been Linda yeah making her late ti-83 my team debut yeah hey Jolie Rasmussen collect the material on the Cal Poly Mustangs [Music] by northern Colorado so we'll take a break as well Hawaii running in the fourth enjoy the behind-the-scenes look at alleyway eateries in Japan and Hawaii as well as the iconic foods that make up our local lifestyle on the yokocho and we go each series December 1913 that 8 p.m. only on spectrum OC 68 serving four out of the time out and it will be Bailey Choi a couple of aces on her stat line already in this match his mom from that middle position had to sort of redirect her approach and she was able to get it down I told you [Music] waters washed recover to serve millions blasted by the same sky Williams still perfecto nine kills nine swings something else aren't you it really is again it is quality versus quantity for sky will ease not accept birth as many times as they'll likely set IgE certainly some of the other offensive when they do set her she is usually talking about the Big West get three teams in it has traditionally been known as a one team confident so I think be the achievement of getting three programs in for Hawaii is one that certainly deserves recognition and I think it comes at an interesting time because we also got word here just the other day is [Music] the defense the longtime Commissioner of the Big West Conference in fact for 27 years in that position announcing that he will be retiring following the 2019 2020 academic year he became the conference's fourth Commissioner back in 1992 has been with the conference formerly known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association since 1980 so he want to wish dennis wells wonderful guy has been tremendous things for this league the timing is incredible because the Big West Conference is about as respected in this sport of women's volley as it has ever been one of these I think Dennis's most problem as the legacy left knowing that he was that this conference is the only conference in America with women's volleyball beach volleyball men's volleyball all three their support [Music] for Rico Latino it's no7 service a cease for Hawaii [Applause] they were this man to meet bed is that number eight for Hawaii yeah eight service aces for the Rainbow Wahine [Applause] based a month by Gd she gets the set in the middle is Brock Lucia splits the double block and gets it down in hole officially your tummy scenery Nilsen gonna kill I got a smile on their face because she's someone who didn't practice hitting at all for the preseason in August and all of a sudden she's called upon to be a hit her you know in the middle of September then the next thing you know she's putting up kill after kill after kill amazing in sport and he knows the meatrix gets away another timeout by the bears away open it up welcome back make sure you stayed tuned right after the match for the Heineken postgame show for insight highlights and analysis you'll want to stick around they usually have some highbrow discussion to go along with an interview or two interesting match here tonight I mean it does back and forth but have gone either way for the first two sets 26:24 ha got you in the first 26 24 Northern Colorado in the second and then the Rainbow Wahine just out of a sudden one five eight seven and four high ball outside is going sick Rose shot good effort there by Schulz defensively backless it goes to Matt [Applause] Maryna think chakras up like that [Applause] [Music] that's your Big West Conference of the year I think quite a testament to the kind of influence she has had per fourth service ace of the match for the other coaches in the conference to recognize what she meant for this team can put up the biggest offensive numbers because of her all-around service she does filled the stat sheet but not to the degree of some of the offensive stalwarts that we see throughout the conference and yet the coaches recognized her importance and I thought that that was pretty remarkable I think there was [Music] recognize that they didn't know is how much she also became but the coaching the floor how much responsibility Robin our game can only yoshiya just basically run the team at various times here she is setting cross-court to Rasmussen diving saved there by Shultz the cross-court bumps that goes to muff easy pickins they're the one to save by Ross and then I cheated [Music] for good reason two blockers out amber a genie just a freshman starting to learn how to do that little shot to get away from those blockers here taking her pirate cross-court shot we've all come in for the bows you'll see a delayed middle goes to Joey and she oh she's back alright and the proud love in the fact that Jolie Rasmussen is back in action great septum you'll see as well [Applause] his Harris by the double block was heavy-handed Harris node is heaven isn't accessable doesn't just goes white he goes about her way then a couple kills a game playing the opposite position [Music] had a few service errors in this match double figures in and right g'v yes sir for the goal gotta let me play back for good there we go it's happening this is extrusion middle she's now a fourth visitor fourth notation right side said dug up there by Van Sickle Ross trying to collaborate through the block i GD takes on the setting responsibilities to McKenna good dig there by hell is over the net you see a middle Williams all she whipped on it and that is going to be the first miss connection with sky Williams here [Music] yasya here's Williams dug up high ball bum segesta muff dug up biosea rasmussen cross-court to Ross if she sends a woman begging the winner of this match San Diego and the team that ironically Hawaii opened the season will and what was a five-set thriller the Ken did not have grace rolling six five freshmen who had the 17 kills earlier this evening in a four-set win over Washington State touch shot by Rasmussen good Diggler by penguins back row that is McCartney dug up that girl Ross three blockers up against her was able to slighted by their coverage by ELLs and then muffin raghavaiah Pina Warren's bump set to Rossi pin bailed around turn good scramble plate here's Ross again I was with the hood did crayons mop up the block diving save and it'll be returned we play on another marathon sequence here's muff again bluff got a good chunk and that time Ross couldn't conjure up to say and again the crowd the effort on both sides of the story high quality play right there both teams plates horrific details rally those Tanner elves picking up a heater of whom arose [Applause] outside speaking of heaters by Ross there it is kill number 13 the only player in double figures in because we evenly distributed offense at night for Hawaii again would you figure that this young lady right here was recruited as a libero and defensive specialist now she's primary attacker on the outside the best Butler ball of her life yeah just extra springing extra confident coming at just the right time and now you me introduce Jolie Rasmussen has yet another part of this Arsenal it gives Robin amo some options and we saw that tonight those high hands dug up by Van Sickle outside Rossi Ellis digs it up to the net just above the tape saved on a rolling effort there by Aquino and now the Bears in transition McCartney sends it wrong when certain clothes in here twenty-one serving 12 [Music] [Applause] ing sub-regional 3 the only sub-regional with 3 ABC a ranked teams in Colorado the only one that's not currently in the top 25 here's man sick low lying bet you'll see a bump say goes to Ross tools the Ross does it again she has just been amazing [Music] consumed in all kinds of ways not just a tacky there she is is that a great night of passing solid night digging rocks older and Springs the tape through thumbs nothing to save there by Alpena that was a defensive maneuver room up has to readjust the approach pancakes lay on mop a third time this time wins the battle against the one take em up I mean you just you can stop her momentarily but they just keep going to her B of three she gets three swings and he coming back she's we stick over the pancake Cougars controi we looked at three smooth she's gonna win in the end run she's in the wind the folk pinball action by Hawaii to forge a return pirates off the one foot [Applause] [Music] and one other interesting aspect of this sub-regional one of only to see men with all female head coaches and I think that's something yeah that's certainly in the women's volleyball NCAA tournament sports is something to comment so let's go the right direction you're right thirteen seven thousand hang around till the end pretty amazing loyalty they can't get enough volleyball imagine they will be coming out tomorrow night round two of the NCAA tournament it's just and cue the SSC as they rise to their feet [Music] man took a while for the rainbow wahine to find the groom but boy they certainly did in that third set here they go in a chance to finish things off here since the swing block out a piece but not enough for AJ Hinch strikes again [Applause] [Music] whose camera except her they're taught kill of the night Thanks that's by okinawan remains Aloha Paul hears bangs cichlid tight to the net but the live by intz left from the back row let me in transition here's IgD Al's got just a touch on a good hugger on the second touch there by mom here's idea the rainbow in full sets against colorado's squad [Applause] the rainbow [Applause] [Music] [Applause] to a first-round victory [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] twelve straight wins and it sets up a rematch with San Diego [Applause] San Diego to rarity well coach therapy ugh [Applause] [Music] the first maps believe that free to quickly the space should be closed San Diego has a little bit it was neck-and-neck through two sets and in Hawaii just pulled on the throttle and turned on the Boosters and they race across the finish line to a four set victory here tonight but send it over to Scott Ron's first off Robin congratulations the idea is to survive and win that's exactly what you did how do you explain the difference between the Wahine in the first two sets and what we saw in the last two sets they woke up they want to lose they won this season and they woke up how much do you think Jolie Rasmussen appearance helped your team as well I mean she's been out all season I told them like we're starting a new season and so now second season we got all of our girls back you know and we're starting again so yeah they love her back I mean obviously we all love her back the prowlers are back it's a good problem to have because now you have a lot of different options you can use kind of like what we saw at the beginning of the season we can use whatever we want talked about McKenna Ross she came on late in the season she was gangbusters again tonight had just a tremendous match for you yeah I mean she's just got to have confidence the last two years just voices like I'm a little a little short and I'll say here I say you gotta come in like the rest of the season never balls on alright tomorrow night the rematch with San Diego the TV played in the very first match of the season they're much different but so are you guys that's a great team on the side that coach my great coaches is going to be a calm down by the way Robin congratulations your first win in the NCAA tournament alright guys back over to you thanks a lot Scott Bank boy presents the players of the match Taylor muff was brilliant 19 kills 232 in the hitting percentage Department blocked four digs and a service aces McKenna Ross 14 kills hit 253 blocks 5 digs and a service ace of her own all right c-max Oh Hawaii advances it was neck-and-neck through the first two sets and then they just opened up a can from there I'll give you the last thought here as the Rainbow Wahine now prepare for a rematch with the Toreros a Toreros team that is a little bit more built up in terms of their personnel here the second time around my first thought is major props that you version down to Colorado the job they did tonight and why they played how hard they played well they could have been up to old instead of being one one after the first two sets major props to them they were I think they really helped Hawaii prepare for tomorrow night because white had that play you know like second-round volleyball the last two sets in order to win so I think they're gonna have their hands full tomorrow night there'll be a lot of film watching tomorrow coaches have watched film players have not so tomorrow's me a very intense day for the Rainbow Wahine going through how to beat this very good San Diego team yeah they look crisp in the last two sets it's gonna require that level performance against San Diego it should be a doozy tomorrow night at the Stan Sheriff Center it behooves you to come on down but of course we will have it for you right here on spectrum sports all right we're gonna hand it off to the corner crew for the Heineken postgame show but for now for Chris McLaughlin I'm Kanoa Leahey see you tomorrow folks in round 2 of the NCAA tournament Aloha from the Stan Sheriff Center [Music] highlights away and more than Colorado we started with the Rainbow Wahine middle hitter Skylar Williams she hits 818 on the night nine kills as well as being in on six Pollock talking about blocky in Hawaii rocked that lifts them to the arena tonight there you see a stuffed 13 overall on the night layout blocked in the barrack 13 to 3 William and yoshiya each with six blocks IDI GD added five on the other side taylor mom she was very good she led all scorers with 19 on the night for the bears on 56 swings to get to 32 born in Hawaii sigh but how about the senior McKenna Watts leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine of 89 14 hills in 350 and the night she also have three books and added a big as well if you see the senior going across work Lane that one down as Hawaii advances for the first time since 2016 to the second round with a four six four set victory over the University of Northern Colorado [Music] from spectrum sports it's the Heineken postgame show hi everybody thanks for sticking around it is a Heineken postgame show I'm Scott she's Lisa he's Ryan in Hawaii wins in four tonight over Northern Colorado though at least through the first two sets it certainly was not easy and how much do you think that is just Russ having only played two matches in a little over three weeks well I think a little bit of that but also a little bit of anxiety and nerves you know this is Mt Double A tournament you've got a pretty young team even though they've had a great season things are a little bit different when you're going into tournament play and then to the playoffs and I think one of the major factors was just the overall passing boys passing was really bad in that first couple of sets and not really able to get in any sort of offensive rhythm they were also making a lot of errors I mean the first 10 points of that first set Hawaii gave up seven different points on hitting errors and serving errors and so I think once they minimize the errors they were really able to settle down and then they were able to sort of read this offense the blockers got much more comfortable with trying to figure out what the hitters for another Colorado we're doing canola and Chris you're talking a lot about the serving of northern Colorado and they are good servers but how about Hawaii nine service aces only eight service airs for those by of course Noreen well again Noreen eoseo putting on a serving clinic but Bailey Choi also came on strong late in this last game in Game four and really served strong effective balls getting Colorado out a system numerous time and I really feel like that was the game-changing moment was when Bailey Choi went back and got that big run as we see some of what he's highlights from behind this like of course the Reno SIA can really turn things around with her sir she almost brings a new style of momentum Northern Colorado even went to a four-man axiom when her room was serving because they had to make sure that they could cover that's my court but I really do agree with you Lisa I think that Bailey's service in that running that third set really helped to push the gap open she was serving area five in Colorado could not get a pass they were only setting before the high ball on the outside and Hawaii's blocking was just waiting hallways blockers were waiting out there and they were able to get anything like four blocks and that one run alone because of the serving of baby joy well we saw the return of Joe Lee Rasmussen for the first time since September when she went down that injury against West Virgina towards Kalin of the second set I forgotten tell Joe to get ready I'm gonna put you in and she did it and she came away with four kids only hit 231 just her presence I think kind of re-energized this team yourselves I think she has an amazing present she's kind of a leader in herself just to lead by example early in the scene as well playing only in two games tonight subbing in for Hanaa hail Vic yeah and I think really it was it was a really special moment to be in the arena when they announced that she was in here and to see the fans react the way they did you can tell that they love her of course the contribution she had in that first week and her family here in the stands as well so for her her able to have that reception I think was sort of this uplifting moment not saying that Hana was playing badly I mean she was hitting over 200 she really helped to way out in some of those key areas but I think Hawaii just needed a little bit more of a boost you can still tell though Jolie not that hundred percent that we saw that first week timing still a little off her arm swinging is still not as crisp and I don't know that she's as used to playing on the right side because she's playing on the right then she was swinging was when she was on the left but great to see her back in the line of pattern Lily all right let's take a look at the final numbers from this four set victory for the University of Hawaii over Northern Colorado and guys there they are in Hawaii hit a good percentage 315 well I think the biggest thing that jumps out to me of course is the blocks they just turned it on big-time and they Northern Colorado just could not get the ball and move it around the block enough and it changed the momentum completely giving so I Hania a ton of confidence and they were having fun and cell and that any percentage of 315 Hawaii really helping to elevate that hitting percentage it was not there at the beginning of the this match and really helped to turn things around you could tell they were getting much more confident in the plays that they were running able to run that offense and get kills scholar Willie I mean it goes on the line of all the players that played Ryoga I actually also think that Brook fen sickle had a terrific match she was sort of one of those unsung heroes there were some hits that she had in that first set where she hit a slide off of one foot on the right sideline that kind of killed in a clutch moment as we look at some of the highlights but she really helped to carry that team that hit she had from the back wall you know looked like we were watching the men's team hitting those bits that we see with them but I thought she had a really solid night as well Lisa nine kills 15 big shoot really is like that utility player DD's well it's in the genes we all know that so basically just joking huh she did have a great match I think you know she just knows the game so well her volleyball IQ and I have to say that I think her best attack is out of the backcourt she sees the court so well and then she plays middle back and usually the middle back player is your most aggressive player to the ball of your quickest player but 15 digs that's a lot of digs in one match alright so the second round is set here in Manoa tomorrow night 6:30 game of 7s quad for Hawaii San Diego the rematch but we have much more here from the corner when we return [Music] welcome back to the Heineken postgame show [Music] back in Stan Sheriff Center or Hawaii takes care of business tonight in the first round of the NC double-a tournament as they advance with a three set 2-1 victory over the Bears of Northern Colorado right let's take a look at the bracket Hawaii is in there you see Nebraska and Missouri will match up in Lincoln tomorrow and then of course tomorrow evening here they'll be Hawaii San Diego and you know you look at that Hawaii San Diego matchup they played each other in the very first match of the season oh it was on ranked San Diego I once it was 25th if I'm not mistaken Hawaii had that win and that really kind of propelled him I thought the rest of the way but we watched San Diego today that's a much different San Diego team but so is Hawaii oh they're both completely different if you ask me I mean Hawaii is significantly improved the dynamics and the court people players on the court if you will are completely different and it continues to change I mean Joe Lee Rasmussen was on the court then now she's back on the court it's just gonna continue to change and San Diego is quicker faster stronger you know there's a lot of talk of probing the the outside hitter who really has helped to carry this team 65 outside hitter did not play against Hawaii that first time around she could be a difference maker but for Hawaii Makenna Ross did not play for the first two weeks of this season she obviously a difference maker tonight leading Hawaii in kills so both of these teams missing some key components that they now have right now and I think right now the question for Hawaii is what lineup do you go with you know do you go back with the lineup he ended with or do you go back to the lineup that you started the season with there's a lot of things I think that happened have to happen for these coaching staff in the next 24 hours let's take a look at some highlights from furling the freshman for San Diego whose was really really good tonight at 6:55 she's very athletic and she's and above and over most of the party so it's gonna be an interesting chess match to see how the coaches set their lineup to have in this baby some taller people up the net when she's on the outside oh she it's a high mean ball but she also they run a quicker often so I think the big test will be for Hawaii's blockers especially the middles to be able to get out and control her at least slow the ball down because tonight she was actually going over the block numerous times hitting high off hands at 6'5 can you imagine the reach so no I can't I've never been 65 Lisa I'm sorry I'd barely over five five you know you look at Hawaii they've played teams that have happened physical players like a run ins for Santa Barbara who went off at times and they were still able to find ways to at least slow them down the thing with San Diego's they have so many weapons and when they're in system as Lisa said they run a faster attack so I think it's going to be really important for Hawaii to possibly go bigger at the net the question then becomes though you're passing who or even your pastor is gonna be so if Hawaii goes with Rasmussen and Hana in the front row what happens to Ross what happens to Van Sickle I think there's a lot of question marks in terms of who's going to be the pastor's with that so because they are the primary pastors for the scene so it there's a lot of question marks I think that need to kind of be answered you know another thing they're gonna face is a very aggressive setter Anna Newsom tonight I think she had seven or eight kills so she'll become very offensive beside pregnant with offense and and that can cause problems well it definitely caused problems the first time they met up wit they went five the way escape that three to two barely at Lee the last score was 1513 game but the other player is Megan Johnson who's there 62 middle blocker and she's incredibly explosive she reminds me a lot of amber Kaufman she does a lot behind you know just real quick a little bit undersized but I'll tell you what she's really quick with a high risk snapping attack on the ball yeah I think for Hawaii what they might end up having to do is sort of goal with the 6-2 offense and have Hana as well as have Jolie come in for the setter so we may not necessarily see norine play six rotation she may only play three and then they may stick with the smaller's on the outside and just move those two players and match them up against the bigger so they can either go left or right so we're gonna have to see what happens there well I think the good news is that there are lots of options you know these players have all gotten a lot of experience so far with different injuries and different lineups so the coaching staff they've had a lot of experience this year doing that changing things up and so hopefully they'll make the adjustments as needed it'll be line up to C dot B there's so many variations next and I think it was good to see who I be able to get back out on the floor they played a quality team in Northern Colorado I mean they went 17 and won in the Big Sky and they won the regular and the tournament to kind of get that rust off if he will get their legs back acclimated and I can't imagine they they won't play like they did then I imagine they'll play like how they did the last two cents against San Diego well I think you would hope so and I think that there's not gonna be any time for Hawaii to play catch-up if that were the case they have got to come up strong tomorrow they cannot really afford those unforced errors and a really big difference could be this crowd I mean we saw this crowd come alive in those ending of both of those sets because they really got into it especially after that Amber IgD save in that first said this place was on fire so a loud Stan Sheriff Center could be the decision-making and really the case why Hawaii always says they should be hosting this first and second round so fans should come on oh I think it's gonna be a Titanic matchup we watch San Diego obviously at the beginning of the year we watch them today against Washington say they are really good but the Rainbow Wahine are really good as well alrighty we'll take a break we'll come back have some final thoughts here from Manoa and Hawaii advances welcome back to the Heineken postgame show back inside the Stan Sheriff Center most of the folks have made their way outside the arena to the parking lot getting ready to make their plans to head on back out here tomorrow night one match the winner bazan more than likely you would think to Madison Wisconsin the way it's set up they're the highest seed in Hawaii's bracket but should they get knocked off and should Nebraska get knocked off and if away wins then the regional would be here that's right but anyway this was a big win I think a big way and also for Robin to finally get over the hump her first year they lost in five to Illinois last year they lost in five the Baylor Northern Colorado at home she got that win and you could tell she was she was pretty pleased about that well I think it's pretty huge the last two years were also at-large bid so they didn't even know if they were going to actually attend the NCAA playoffs so that was kind of a great thing and then this year the Big West getting three teams in and then being able to host at home but this was huge I mean you're at home you're hosting you're seated high and the team definitely struggled in game number one and game number two there was a little struggle there but then they gotten their rhythm and they got on task yeah and I think it's the first time you know that Hawaii really tomorrow they could make history again being able to advance to a regional semifinal it has not happened in a while for Hawaii I believe the last time was when Hawaii one to beat Texas A&M and advance to play a Penn State and actually one be Penn State to go to a regional final so it's been some years since Hawaii has kind of been back into this position you know you talked about the crowd tonight Ryan and how much do you think that really factors into the NCAA when they look at things they do you think they really care how big a crowd there is I mean I think that it plays into it definitely but I'm not sure that it's going to become a matter of something that's going to be a decision maker for the n-c-double-a down the line I think that it is something that just kind of is an added perk but it's not something because ultimately it's not the n-c-double-a it's the selection committee is the ones that are making those decisions so well besides winning tonight the big story was a return of Joe Lee Rasmussen we've been up since 7:00 anybody went down at anything West Virginia and Rasmussen came in and the third set I hopefully get their mojo back after dropping that second set and boy went on and really world over the Bears and sets three and four and Rasmussen and so good to see her back out there on the floor up and during months of trying to rehab and get that anchor you see her teammates were pretty fired up as well and she joins us now in the corner congratulations Jolie would it feel like to get the call and to go walk out on the floor for the first time in like three months um it was very exciting I don't know I just when you've been working for something and you've been wanting something for so long and I mean the team has been so supportive behind me and the coaches and the trainer's and just when everyone is just constantly asking you like when you're gonna back when you're back and you just ya know it was just it was really fun to just be able to go in and I don't know play with them again like they're so fun and they have so much energy and just to be part of that and like be a piece a lot of just it's unparalleled how close are you to a hundred person I don't know but he's really 100 percent but how close are you to what you were before you got hurt um I would say physically they've kept me going and they've kept me in really good shape they've got my ankle pretty much all the way back and it's just finding the groove finding a position back obviously our team one conference and I wasn't on the court so our team is phenomenal and our team earned it coming here with just the 15 girls who were playing and I wasn't dressed out so I mean coming back and just finding a place and earning my way back on the court in whichever way I can is just gonna be fun so I want to know how does your ankle feel right now I'm Andrea it hurts but yes not like debilitating so what is this what are things have you learned I guess sitting on the sidelines and and it's something that you'd have to do and something you've had to experience with multiple injuries throughout your career has this been an opportunity to learn maybe something else that you didn't learn the first few times that you've been injured yes yeah I think honestly I learned more than I have in the last two months than I have in years like just being there with my team and like being positive even though I can't play and like finding ways to contribute and just win like a player like looks at me and they're like what can I do and I'm just like okay like let me see and just finding ways that I can contribute off the court and just realizing like that my team trust me and that being able to help them is it's so humbling just to be like to know that like they'll turn to me and ask me questions and same for me to them is like when I stepped on the court the first thing everyone said is like hey we got you back like don't worry like we're here for you and her just it was so exciting just to be a part of that again let's take a look at one of your kills alrighty first kill bat the first kill bet yeah all right talk about tonight's match because the first two sets I mean they both win 26:24 Hawaii ones first Northern Colorado second it was a dogfight but then once the third set started it was all u8 how do you explain them um I think we're a super young team as you stated we haven't there's a lot of freshmen so they have an experience the n-c-double-a so I think we were just really excited because we wanted to win and excitement can sometimes lead to being overzealous if that makes sense like we were doing a little too much and we just needed to kind of relax and so when we went into the hallway during that break and Robin just came up and she was like you got this like just serve and pass that's all you need to do and I mean Bailey went on like a ridiculously long serving run and Rica's out there passing nails and I think that just calmed us down just to be in system and to get them out of system and then everything else I mean our middles were hitting like a thousand up until I don't even know I'm pretty sure they were still hitting a thousand at the end so I mean it was just it was just realizing like hey like we earned it like we deserve to be here like they're obviously a very good team like they earned it too so it's it was gonna be a fight but I think I was just realizing that like we had the powers and the tools to go farther and do more and really honing in on that and just settling down and playing our game of volleyball looking ahead to tomorrow you played this team as your season opener yes you guys were pretty fired up I know you were really fired up and the whole Stan Sheriff was so excited to see all the new players and the transfers and the new freshmen and everybody and you you had this natural leadership about you at that time so you've played this team before what are you looking at for tomorrow I think it's gonna be a really exciting match because we're a completely different team the lineup that we had at the beginning is not the lineup that we have today and I think the lineup that we have today would beat the lineup that we had then I think this team right now has grown and improved so much we've gels and we've learned and we've cried blood sweat like we've just done it all and we've gone this long journey from I mean the seniors myself included Kyra Schuyler comma Janelle like we were here in January and we had this foundation and then summer came along and we got five amazing freshmen and we got two great transfers and it was like our opening match is just kind of like volleyball like what can we do but now it's like okay what can we do as a team and like how do we play as a whole and I think it's just gonna be a completely different look how much of a relief is it now to kind of get that game that first game back out of your system I mean it was I was saying early was a special moment when you walked on the court you got introduced people were giving a standing ovation in the stand when your name was announced because they were you know they wanted to see you back here but now that that's sort of Otto do you feel like you're are you glad almost like that's done and now I can just beep I'm back yeah I mean I found out that I was cleared like three days ago so um I just it's been such a work in progress and just like constantly trying to figure things out and just once you get that like you're cleared mark you're like but am I like I don't know I just questioned it but I mean once you're on the court and your team's like we got you like just go and you're like okay it's just very comforting to know that like you have like all these people behind you no matter what like if I came out and I didn't do anything like my teammates there for me or whatever so I got one last question for you guys not Sunday whoo the teams are gonna be in your bracket and that you'd be home how much work have you guys done on San Diego or was everything just focused strictly on northern Colombia he didn't even talk about either of the teams because it was up between San Diego and Washington State and we didn't even look at that we were focused solely on northern Colorado we only watched film on them we only talked about them and not once we're either of those teams mentioned in a locker room a film session or on the practice floor so we were 100% focused on this team right here because we knew that it was gonna be a battle and we knew that they're gonna come out strong and it was if you don't win you can't move on so you got to focus on what's ahead of you and now it's go home and watch an hour of film and figure out who we're gonna play next and wake up in the morning and do it again so well congratulations yeah welcome back get some rest and we look forward to seeing you on the floor again tomorrow thanks guys all right though wrap things up for us here tonight from the sheriff's Anahola he advances with a four set victory over the University of Northern Colorado special thanks as always for outstanding spectrum sports crew for Jolie for Ryan for Lisa I'm Scott until next time we bid you a loja and a good evening from the Stan Sheriff Center in motto [Music]
