[Music] [Music] [Applause] it's game on presented by spectrum sports and the good evening from the Stan Sheriff Center in Mon dollar tonight second round action of the NC double-a volleyball tournament as a 12 seed Hawaii hosts the Toreros of San Diego and this is game on presented by spectrum Sports for Rainbow Wahine volleyball hi everybody thanks for joining us on this Saturday night I'm Scott she's Lisa and he is Ryan it's a rematch of the very first match of the season way back in August when Hawaii took on the University of San Diego but both these teams got here after first round wins last night for the Toreros a four set victory over Washington State for Hawaii a four set victory over the University of Northern Colorado so let's take a look right now at the Hawaii bracket and how things have shaped out there you see the winner of this match is awaiting Nebraska Cornhuskers went for with Missouri there you see last night's matchups San Diego and Hawaii advancing it was a difficult match for the Rainbow Wahine in the first couple of sets and overall though do you look at the numbers and it's hard to say that ho a struggle with those great numbers yeah especially that hitting percentage Hawaii at 315 really helps to elevate their hitting percentage in the latter part of that matches they got more and more confident but the block who's really the story for Hawaii 13 blocks a lot of that credited to the bad passing of Northern Colorado see their Hawaii with nine aces but the bad passing ultimately led to Hawaii's ability to set up that block well let's take a look at some of the highlights from the bears and why in it start off with Skylar Williams the middle blocker hit eight eight scanner William just literally spying really making some great connections and bringing her enthusiasm at the net us to celebrate blocking numerous balls and again as we mentioned hoist blocking overall looks very solid Fri GD as well she was included in that block party I'm Hawaii walkers really took a while to kind of figure this team out but once they did and that burden Ford said they really sealed the deal and we had the return of Jolie Rasmussen who ever played in almost three months she said it was just so awesome to get back out on the court her dream of playing again and the warm welcome that she had when she was inserted and again if he will see it from the beginning of tonight's matchup or if she will be coming off the bench but no Gaza fans were excited to see her line up and back in Hawaii New Jersey but it was really an idle McKenna rock the senior outside hitter helped lead this team and kills but not only that help provide that offensive if she did not play the last time these two teams played we'll see if she's a different vigor tonight buddy look at last night was a tale of two halves if you will just didn't see but cameras Magill white easily could have found themselves down to sets to none if it wasn't for an igt dig late in that set one but it was like they went to break and then they brought in Rasmussen and then it's like the Joaquin a wolf yeah they were like sleeping away I think they were a little anxious a little nervous and they just were trying a little bit too hard and then things kind of settled down that energy got out and they got into a good rhythm and a good system their block got hot their serving was pretty phenomenal nine service aces but they just continued to get northern Colorado out a system which like Brian said set up their block yeah it's almost like they had too much red bull it's like something to drink those energy drinks and you just can't control your movements and it kind of takes an hour so for you to kind of calm down hopefully the Red Bulls not on tap tonight for this team and their kind of start off with not those so much adrenaline pouring through their veins I think there's no question they had adrenaline but how much do you think also the layoffs they've had two byes in the last three weeks coming into that one well I think that's big but I think at this time I think that's a great thing for this team I think they needed some rest and recovery working together and again Jolie Rasmus and getting her the time off and able to work Brooke Van Sickle as far as her health everybody likes that little break and to do more breakdown in the gym yeah it helped to heal people and who knows it might have been an opportunity to sort of work on that different lineups when Jolie was inserted back into this lineup and that's I think the biggest story line in question about going into tonight's matchup is what lineup will Hawaii go with I personally think they cannot leave Hana and Jolie on the bench they're gonna need to play big against the scene we'll just have to see where those pieces fit in tonight well we may get some answers right now let's go sport side to the gentlemen they'll be calling the action come on and Chris thanks a lot Scott yeah next to Chris McLaughlin I'm canola lady in CMAC a lot of discussion I'm sure among the Rainbow Wahine coaching staff today about the aforementioned lineups personnel what do you anticipate we see from Hawaii here to start this match life well first of all I think they could grow to as many as four or five different lamps depending on the situation tonight I kind of think they're going to go a little bit big and have a healthy and rasmusson both giving the game at the same time as opposed to having no why don't sit out the entire set like they did last night helping set out three and four so I think that it's gonna be interesting and I tried to get an answer from Cleo Baxter he was secretive I try to guy tried Angelica quest she was secretive so it's a well kept secret we'll see what happens I'd say it's a great duel mystery I think tonight that's right playing it close to the vest yes certainly this coaching staff has really should be the case but you're right options that's what the return of Joe Lee Rasmussen ultimately brings we saw as the corner crew discussed we saw McKenna Ross just go bananas in that tournament opener last night against Northern Colorado and so it becomes a question yes you'd want Joe Lee Rasmussen in there but to the possible expense of not having McKenna Ross who is one of your hotter players right now that's a great question you know McKenna had a great night last night and showed up against a pretty decent block actually was it was not super large Broz a pretty decent block and sheet just work that block you would over it very many times which was surprising and but again remember that Jilly Rasmussen got 19 kills against the San Diego team in August that's right and you know so she might have something magical and she could bring to the table as well what a tough push I wouldn't want to be Robin on ball and the Cleo Baxter and Angelica quest right now because too many of the lineups too many decisions this week crazy tonight I think a great testament to this team though is we have seen lineup changes in adjustments throughout the season and there hasn't been any at least visible sort of issue with that among the players I think all the players seem to be onboard with hey look whatever is best whatever gets us the W I totally agree this team is just a great attitude supporting each other great character great spirit great camaraderie and it's all come out of love for each other love for the coaching staff and they seem to just go with the flow they're very resilient all right let's talk about San Diego on the other side they are the WCC champs this is a program that quite frankly is among the most consistent non power five programs in the country they don't do anything poorly they are just a solid volleyball team yeah and I think their biggest strength in fact to know is that is that they are balanced like last night they had four players in double figures and kills from the middle blocker in the other team I'm going to go what I don't like I like the key on just one big big whip or just maybe two but not for us right so the middle blockers I think are really be challenged tonight amber IgD in and sky woods this could be a little trickier for them let's watch that carefully tonight you see how many split blocks that they get you know it's gonna be really yeah it's really tough I think for Hawaii middle blockers and yeah but of everybody a lot of prolific offensive players for this Toreros team you have meghan jacobson in the middle who's hidden 411 on the season number seven in the country that's right kill percentage tane fayed who they will set time and time again certainly on the outside pin a player that hawaii did not see though in the season opening match is grace rolling the West Coast Conference freshman of the year and boy has she played well throughout the season 17 kills last night yeah she's a force and she's six five she goes she'll be blocking on the right side much like Hannah Helmick does for Hawaii so she'll be taking on Hawaii's number one outside hitter on the left and at six five she definitely is a presence your set better be pretty precise and the attacker has got to really attack smartly with a 65 monster out there and well the winner gets Nebraska in Madison Wisconsin in the regional in the next round of this NCAA tournament and whoever gets there they will have earned it because this is going to be a doozy we'll see what first-serve listen to back over to the corner crew all right thanks a lot guys let's take a look at that bracket this is the top left-hand side of your looking at the brackets on the piece of paper this these are the four teams they'll advance to the baylor regional you see Baylor won Purdue also Kentucky and she chopped on that side those floor teams will be in the waco later on next week also you have here in Madison Wisconsin winning entry over UCLA Texas A&M Nebraska and the winner of this match will join them and I'm sure what would be chili chili Madison Wisconsin later on this week as they mention Hawaii or sandy who will played in the pasta in the regional semi-final in the upper right section of the bracket Stanford easily over Cal Poly how about you saw that was at Bravo in Smith Fieldhouse and they destroyed the Cougars so that one seed knocked out there you see Penn State winning over Towson and how about another seeded team Pittsburgh getting knocked off at home by Cincinnati so those four teams will be in Stanford later on this week and in the bottom right hand of the bracket Minnesota survives down two sets to one they come back and beat Creighton in five Florida over UCF Texas last night in five over UC Santa Barbara Louisville last night in five over Western Kentucky so the four winners will head over to Austin to see how they do against their team for the University of Hawaii this is kind of a big deal obviously it's been a long road but what will it take to win a national championship we have to just get locked in and you know focus and do our best all the time give it give it our all during practices as well and just also it's important to like sleep well eat well drink a lot of water just to be focused on that like all day even when you're not on the court just a lot of hard work and just definitely a lot of confidence and just going out there and competing no matter who's on the other side of the net one thing is culture but you gotta have everybody you have to have like at least 95% of your team on the same page because there's a lot of people that you know a lot of kids that dare that call and let me go to these big schools and all of a sudden they're all transferring you got to get kids that want to be you want to be there if you don't want to be there you don't love what you know the place where you don't like it you're not gonna be happy therefore you know you're not gonna go all out as a athlete I just wanted coaches to be up front with me be up front you know don't hide stuff peeing on with the kids you know and show it on that you actually care about them not only volleyball wise but life flies too [Music] time now for can no can sponsored by first wine bank who say yes can and we asked Lisa annalisa ladies gopher cannon okay Hawaii win it all well you know that's a great question and it's a very tough question as well it's a anything is possible so yes they can win it now will they I don't know I think there's a lot of things that have to fall into place for this team number one they've got to play spectacular volleyball I mean no air is nothing they got to get a little lucky and like coach Robin Mo has said all year long this is a special team and in order to win they have to buy into the culture and I think she's finally got her real first team that has totally bought in to her culture and her style and she knows that they've worked very hard so I think that you've got to get them believing that they can so yes they can and again will they and if they if they do move on the further you go along in the tournament the bigger and the stronger the opponent yeah you know you when you look at this tournament in the history of this sport only ten teams have won a national championship it is very hard to do but Hawaii is one of those ten teams that have won I think Hawaii can I think that Hawaii can win a national championship it really depends on who's playing hot and how they're able to win and I think for Hawaii one of the important things for them is really the ticket game-by-game I've said this all season long this team reminds me of that 2004 team that ascended to the number one ranking they play with Hart they didn't necessarily win in the most efficient way but they found ways to win beating some very formidable opponents and I think this team is going to have to do the same thing they can't overlook anyone and they have to play each game interesting to note that team also ended up in Madison Madison Wisconsin absolutely I think part of also winning a national championship you gotta have some luck right gotta have some breaks go your way yeah you have to have things go your way and you know no better place than home to punch your ticket to get to the next level that's for sure and that's why I say Ken because you just don't know what's gonna happen what's the number-one key though to win a national championship do you think Ryan I think it goes back to all the way to your recruiting classes and I think that there are so many components that when it comes into that chemistry with a team their ability the way that they play together physicality as well but I think team chemistry is one of those things that are often overlooked if it seemed as good team chemistry I think that can over succeed talent and athleticism well it should be fun will find on the Boyken event tonight they gotta get by a really good University of San Diego squad all right don't forget catch the greatest plays biggest blocks and schedule info by falling spec sports high on Instagram Facebook and Twitter you're watching game on [Applause] well this place is starting to get filled up the bowls are spinning around on the NCAA logo second round action of the tournament Hawaii and San Diego all four teams that have participated this weekend here in Honolulu on led by female coaches and you see more and more women getting the opportunity to succeed as coaches women can do safety and men can do we can coach we played the game you know we were players once and then we know too as well and we know what girls go through and I think it's a plus for women to be coaching a women's team not necessarily saying that you know all teams should be when this team should be coached by women but we know like I told her girls all the time like I've played I played overseas I've been coached by a whole bunch of different coaches most of them were men I think I had one woman coach which was Jenny long ping on the national team and you know I've learned a lot from men but I also learned a lot from men that hey this is your where you're in a women's sport like hey some of the girls need more this or this you know I think we I think women might have a little upside over men just because we're women and we're coaching you know athletes you know but women can do it too we can be mothers we can be wives and we can be coaches at the same time [Music] it is brought to you by Bank of Hawaii will stay on the theme of female coaches you know only two programs led by women have gotten to a national championship Florida and BYU but no woman head coach has won a national title but you get the feeling that's gonna change very quickly trust me it is gonna change really quickly and I think young lady right here is gonna be one of the people that has a great opportunity the way she's on track right now to be potentially to bring Hawaii a national championship and you look at the history I mean in the beginning there just wasn't a whole lot of opportunities but for women to have this chance to coach other girls and really help in their development and in fact Donna Johnson when she started this Wahine program she told Dave Shoji I'm gonna keep you here until I find a female coach only thing Dave showed you had a pretty good career so it's kind of hard to kick him out but you know initially when they started this program she wanted she envisioned a female in this role and not robbing the most filling in in that position so it really is there's more opportunities now for women I think not only in this war but sports throughout in general and in the Big West alone eight teams total but there are six women coaches there's only two remaining men coaches in the Big West and that's just one conference from the United States it has changed dramatically it's great I think to see women coaching with it and the thing is you look at Robin as we have the last three years I could see her coaching men I mean she if you know the sport you know the sport right what she did for time help out with Charlie wait on the men's team so yeah she's just a great volleyball mind so it really doesn't matter and we're seeing it all the way up in the NBA with assistant coaches Vol assistant coaches as well you know Robin mentioned I'm a female I coached females I understand does that release do you think that plays a role being able to understand the female athlete having been one as well oh no I know it does it absolutely does and what you're gonna find to in Hawaii there are so many male coaches especially with the club volleyball in the high school oftentimes especially at that age younger girls tend to need a little bit more you'll see a little bit more care they're going through different things than young boys do so I think it's spearheaded but I think it needs and will continue to rise where you're going to see more women at all levels coaching volleyball and basketball in every sport not the rise of the Wahine a rise of the Wahine a you were before the time there run you guys are on it all right let's take a break we come back we're gonna discuss the breakdown Hawaii and San Diego there's a living legend himself Dave Shoji and his wife Mary [Music] plus another white out here at the Stan Sheriff Center for the second round of the NCAA tournament there you see the records both teams have been outstanding all year oh wait taking on the Ferrero's of the University of San Diego let's take a look at the leaders down for the University of Hawaii guys well again you see Hana Helbig she's been leading the path all season long Brooke Van Sickle with her numbers and nori Nia the Player of the Year these players and all players have been contributing immensely all year long therefore the Toreros they have a number of outstanding players these two shabby Diane is gonna be one of those players that will see a lot of sets you can see her kill percentage as well not too much but look for her to be effective as well as boots off there's about 80 to 85 the thing with San Diego's they have so many options they didn't all fit on the sheet we have to spin them up it's two players to keep an eye on well again this team just has so many options in there you can see the players and the numbers but the one thing they do is they want a very very quick offense they serve tough and they're just super athletic all right let's take a look at the season comparisons keep in mind they did play each other but this is what they did throughout the season yeah kind of book ending right here at the Stan Sheriff Center but you look at these numbers very similar all the way down like Hawaii has a slight advantage in the blocking category but again I think tonight it's gonna come down to who can get the other team out of system as Lisa was saying this is a team that runs a faster offense Hawaii is gonna have to find ways to disrupt that offense and really make them a little more predictable to their block is not running to close the seams and I would imagine one of the ways to slow down that quick halt fish is you're serving absolutely from the service line and Hawaii's been coming on strong from the service line last nine service paces Bailey toy came in and just have had a run nari Nasia the whole team has been doing a great job what I like what they've been doing is moving the ball around from the end line they're serving from the right back the left back and they're changing it up short deep jump serve dunk floaters all over so they're really trying hard to get the other opponents out of system I think one of the keys that Hawaii should really look at is actually incorporating the short serve in this especially to area two to try to disrupt the slide pattern this is a team that will run some X placements of cross and place of Hawaii can sort of bring that right front and make them pass or have that middle pass that first contact to sort of disrupt what's going on on that and and have to kick it to the outside I think not only they up to serve top they just have to be a little bit more strategic with the placement of their serves Gus fit up to keep an eye on Anna Newsome the center particularly when she's in in the front row because she's a very offensive setter yeah the center senior from Barcelona is very offensive she's not afraid to dump she's very quick on defense but she they oughta be lies-a-lot in other words they call for their sets quickly and she really does have so many options that Hawaii's blocking is really gonna be challenged tonight and you know working the sidelines I hear the coaches talk to them and one of the common things that muwaiya is always talking to their players about is their block I think sometimes what you feel when they play some of these bigger teams are going up against some of these bigger opponents they're trying to match jump and they're trying to get higher over the net and that sense it leaves more seams underneath in the arms and that's when Hawaii blockers get used and so one of the things that Hawaii coaches are constantly preaching to their players is saying low-end type if they hit over you they're going to hit over you we they'd rather have their players go low in tight not necessarily try to get a match jump over the net but more worried about their hand positioning and not use as we saw in the early part of last night's match how much do you think it throws a wrench into the plans of San Diego in terms of scouting Hawaii knowing that Jolie Rasmussen now is available Boyd knows the Sandy was gonna do for the most part but saved a little might have some well remember she was in the lineup when you see when they played that first game of the season so they're not unaware of her they know she's there but I think they're gonna just stay focused on their game plan on their side of the net and don't man-for-man yeah I think it's gonna have to be a game of changes and this is a team that I think will be able to adjust to whatever lineup for ye throws at them I mean we don't even know what player that we're gonna see what players we're going to see on the other side of the net and I think for Hawaii they all have to be ready their number could be called at any moment so we know that Robin mo will go to the bench at any time so all players have to be engaged and ready to go the first breathing went five you guys get the feeling we might be in for another long evening could be like oh no I said this is gonna be a doozy Susie it certainly will be the three of us will be back with this one Hawaii USD [Music] [Applause] although uh hehe good evening everyone the NCAA welcomes you young Chris head coach for the Rainbow Wahine Robin our mold [Applause] [Music] what you fans got to celebrate both the return of Jolie Rasmussen and head coach Robin Armos first postseason victory as the Rainbow Wahine advance for round two of the NCAA tournament earlier Friday and possibly the toughest first round matchup of the tourney San Diego family to the second round defeating Washington State in four sets up next the road to a championship continues round two between the Toreros of San Diego and the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine and with that we welcome you inside the Stan Sheriff Center Kanoa Leahey alongside Chris McLaughlin CMAC they go through the Kaiser Permanente keys to the match for San Diego at size of the pins even though they were out locked into three last night San Diego size at 62 and 65 of the pins can force hitters to make errors to avoid on the block Hawaii which lighteth willoughby with Julie Rasmussen now cleared to play or he near her whole again they can go with a small quick liner or with a big left as we shall see if Providence and staff push the tonight well the very first match of this season played in this building featured Hawaii against San Diego the last match this season who played in the Stan Sheriff Center features Hawaii and San Diego we are playing volleyball in the first set goes outside to gray scrolling by freshman from los angeles california did not play in that aforementioned season opener back in august she gets the first point those stats on her from August 30th but I'm sure we'll have plenty of stats on her tonight including that first kill it was a great match Hawaii winning that one in five sets middle set goes to Amber igt and she strikes [Music] [Applause] osya used the middle as a decoy for about the first set and a half now looks like they're gonna go to the middle early 225 win teams Toreros twenty five and five champions of the West Coast Conference at 17 in one hole what you twenty five and three they took the Big West round at 14 and 2 in Wayne [Music] she's the senior from Victoria British Columbia Canada two point eight nine kills per set one of four players before the Toreros name to the West Coast Conference first team love warm she's got two dollars a gun shot their mix up there for whole let me see a three chance here for San Diego they go slide the meghan jacobson dug up by okie no not only momentarily meghan jacobson six two senior from Lakewood Washington comes into this match hitting four [Music] number seven in the country she simply does not make many mistakes and she gets lots of kills a service error she's also on the old tournament team here in August the only one to make that all tournament team and so she's very familiar with important clients at the Stan Sheriff Center yeah she averaged three and a half kills per set in that season opening tournament and she hit for the tourney for thirteen so just bad numbers from Jacobson his Fayed again the electric swing join forces with me to turn that one back we were tied at three six three and six two on the outside pretty formidable block so the Rainbow Wahine there so to serve by number i GD she goes deep corner to Fayed middle said list of rolling and she's able to find that far sideline grace Rowling's West Coast Conference freshman of the year also a first-team selection and she puts up pounding on the ball when he comes her way you ask her she kicked that ball out of the middle so she business let a shoe right side who stays the right side she'll hit balls out of the middle outside it goes to McKenna Ross off the top of the tape ping balled around and it's gonna get on the Hawaii side of the net and you'll see it was backside the Helbig and she bounces in and we're tied again at four heats this place just you relatively hit that fire up should I be like 73,000 right here at the SSC he'll make interesting ly enough did not play in two of the sets last night in the tournament opener against Northern Colorado the first sets she missed all year the Senior Center transfer from Utah pudding any jury could get a contract there's enough about in the MLB if she wanted to for that kind of shot just has great no spin on the ball we had a couple of aces last night yeah it just falls off of a table there she goes a little deeper with it that growth bump set goes to Roxy Widow and it's dug up Hawaii outside Taurasi tried to go high hands did she get a touch yes she did and it's a point for the Rainbow Wahine hold the phone discussion between the r-1 and the line judge and they'll see if they can come to an agreement there Kevin Cole is the official atop the ladder and he is going to overrule the touch Pole by the way the are two on the floor West kolache Dean tomorrow the two line judges [Applause] the correct call not worthy of a challenge about hey bones see Robins going to challenge it she's gonna do it number one to shy away from a challenge Robin ah mo quickly reaches for that laminated green card you know one of the reasons that McKenna Ross has been so successful this last 1/3 the season she knows how to go for the high hand shot so there was no there's not a mistake that she hit the ball high off the hands they're very high off the hands I think you might have missed by a fraction but she's got really good at-bats why our numbers have been so high in the last one third of the season even though she's five-nine five-ten but she's got a great jump at a great arm swing we have said it throughout the years since this replay system was instituted that this at least with V definition that we're working with via our cameras and instant replay abilities this is the toughest review the touch no touch at the net absolutely she's very tough to stop the ball from that angle it looks like there could be a flicker on that left hand and we'll see what Kylee Kimura ultimately decides are you ficient with the reviews last night I'm gonna predict that there was a touch you've been on it here predictions laid drum roll please [Applause] [Music] [Applause] got time for standing by her hitter McKenna Ross click McKenna might have told her didn't know a way for so good say quote [Music] there's going to be a challenge of the challenge now let's go they can't challenge the same element you can challenge another ball on the same sequence though interesting to see what Jennifer Pesci might be communicating to Kylie Kimura that tree in her 21st season took over the program in 1999 was once again named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year she has won that award now six times this is a quality and veteran coaching staff on the side of the Toreros so joe pesci just check this make sure her lineup was correct so by choice they go outside it's fayed the block goes up tried to send it wrong she does no touch and it's a point for the rainbow wahine she tried to go high hands well in the rainbow wahine up three clad last night had the most receptions of anybody on the team 31 receptions looks like Hawaii's also keeping her the ball awful and a good serve there by Choi here's Fayed good chunk taken out of that Glock there Rossi gets the set on the outside it's blocked back middle seconds to sky Williams soft touches it over pinballed around here spy at another swing and this time she puts it down - named Fayed had 46 attacks the first time these two teams met his thirty people up front Houston both so hard that time screws back down the line that time you'll see it gave her away too much lime with the surly outside here's an arena you'll see on the outside in she goes I think they're more worried about the middle attackers for boy - they're worried about the left side you'll seal the marine can bring it with the dubstep men she showed there the Big West Conference Player of the Year marine you'll see a first-team selection all four years of her career [Applause] getting the gist of that one up next five seven Brookline up against the 6-2 meghan jacobson like I said before taking just not make many mistakes doesn't get blocked by often but book has the last say then her timing impeccable glue the coaches away and the practices leading up to the season where she was according to the analytics measure in practice the most effective the long term for Hawaii at five foot nine pretty amazing yeah probably five foot nine stretchy and I think possibly first thing in the morning when she's like five eight two plays like she's six to parent instead hit the serve for San Diego crouch down to set by Choi goes to Williams and it's gonna be a Miss hit there on the tour at four here tensor v6 enabled enrico Aquino back to CERN also the start here so far for Hawaii I think this one has been very successful the last three weeks you show and I think it's up to them to prove that they cannot go solve their bio Kino forces a free pass over the net [Applause] and you're right there was speculation as to whether enough Jolie Rasmussen would be inserted into the starting lineup she made her return to the team last night after many many matches out with the ankle injury but instead they stick with the lineup that's been working for them here as of late I like what happened we'll see if they can hold on over passing a joust they're played up on the Hawaii side here's you'll see on the opposite pin the date good sliding save there by Annie Ben goal and then the block at the net by a GD three ball coming again for Hawaii can they catch him [Applause] right now between [Applause] company coming out like gangbusters in step one welcome back series record is sponsored by aqua Aston hospitality Hawaii leading the old time series for to the last meeting coming in the season opener for both teams August 30th and it was San Diego up to one holla coming back and winning that match in five it was a thriller to start this 2019 season another quality served by Rico Latino and that one just gets over it was almost an excuse me swing there by Katie Luke's Luke's actually the team leader in pills perset 2.97 a second team old West Coast Conference selection you see that price time excuse that short survey and surgeries talk about the pregame we've been very effective brother here's you'll see a little bit off the net that time popped up by on a Newsom of the setter so the bunt set goes to Luke's and Hawaii will play it back one hand set by Troy but you can't quite put together that nipper in the middle another point for San Diego lieutenant los trying to get a little too precise there in that dick so Newsome will serve team leader in aces makes it over IgD fields at him and gets them behind [Applause] great decision by San Diego to serve by Gd in the little there she is something else she never ceases to amaze dig up the night last night that's right kept ye in that match was all over social media last night the NCAA's Twitter handle posting an Amber igt dig highlight being a dick highlights McKenna Ross Thomas came up with one right there would have been a big kill that had just missed the end see a potion right to see amber getting the recognition she deserves it wasn't to play the night I thought it was fantastic nine serving 13 here and set number one Aquino falling to the Teraflex with the passers huh not healthy those deep corner a turtle rattles around and triples to the floor three point one kills percent of the Year hit me 237 and six kills at 286 and two sets of work against Northern Colorado last night sting in the sub-regional rounds for the first time since 2013 19th overall time hawaii is hosted in the NCAA tournament the past there by rossi well the set in the middle was mistimed and an unforced error there by hawaii gifts some point to the Toreros and all the sudden they're within three set distribution already market really good at middles and kids will be distributed very nicely largest lead for the Rainbow Wahine was six IgD the tuckshop the string and how about amber IG start seaming five attacks five kills amazing team ready to play what do you think no her fans back to Louisiana are watching right now even though it's late at night back there serves it to fly at along that far sideline Fayed gets the set and sends it long no touch all the way no now they will say there was a violation against the violation of its kind Williams Canada so a three-point differential graceful and tied for second in the team and service aces to pass there by Ross Helbig she's breathing right now three kills on three swings for haha you know what she comes in so fresh good job you saw the block out of the corner dry taking her line cuz she went cross-court heavy similarities between these two teams pretty striking step out goes to jacobson williams blocks it back Sandiego takes another stab at it they go too far [Applause] big time milk their sky will and I think tried to come back down the line of set was little inside Joseon sky right there waiting 17 serving 12 Bailey Choi at the circle past there been Bose Y goes to Jacobson and she deets it over and down one thing we haven't seen yet is the offensive [Music] we start asserting herself if her pin hitters and millions worked in the job then should we stick with the match by herself two kills away from the triple-double in the season opener against Hawaii two kills away from a triple double last night in the fourth set Luneberg washington state you'll see I had to readjust the approach so the chance here in transition for San Diego tickets in block Ben Newsome passport bump set and that goes to Lutz and she gets it off the wall can do when you talk about the similarities between these two teams there why's that very similarly in terms of their personality and then even in terms of the recognition right you have the center of the year in the West Coast Conference in animism you have the Player of the Year in center etc etc for Mourinho SIA you have the West Coast Conference freshman of the year on the side of the Toreros yeah the Big West Conference freshman of the year and the big on the side of Hawaii and the similarities go on long we have two very good coaches as well six-time coach at West Coast Conference Coach of the Year Jim Petri just got her another honor this year's right makino on one knee gets the pass and then back up three okay we truly delivered a very precise set that time to sky Williams Scott Williams into this match hitting 402 on the year and it was thanks in large part to hurt nine kill 818 percentage last night against Northern Colorado sent off the whole lot in hands and out by Beach shot block was well before sky roads got there anyway Marine osya what you hitting 526 here so far in set 1 3:18 to San Diego this is a Toreros team that led the WCC in hitting percentage impact with seventh in the NCAA in that category middle said that's Lauren Turner when she gets it down six we were red shirt cross from Edina Minnesota [Applause] being enjoyed by San Diego they are within one crowd trying to urge the home team on here at the SSC pass by okey no outsider goes to Van Sickle up off the trampoline it's dug up by Payton Douglas to the net sky Williams couldn't put it down pinball back and forth Wigan is in the middle and she's able to Joe so he's a trying to solo the temple of Lauren Turner take that over passage is really sad she couldn't use two hands in time could end up on it then eventually God how about last night's performance 818 that's pretty impressive get it throw six blocks on top of that as well for good measure outside swing by Lutz heavy-handed strike once again by the system in teh California team all of WCC this year smells how to the hands so heavy cross sport as well Leeson the southpaw serve pass on target and IgD maybe the level that niche there could be a leech or this is the opposite [Music] tonight going to the middle early maybe they were gaming the slant-eyed baby what do you bid for maybe seven million possum 11 attempts between IgD and sky Williams in the middle to your point [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you had GD and held these up against rolling putting up the wall a lot of youth out there [Applause] here is marine you'll see ahead for aces last night so that gives her 11 aces in her last two matches and 7 on senior night here in this building another shot served middle set to turn on this time she just gets it over so Latino comes sets to hell big against the double block she's blocked back plate off the twine by Van Sickle and sent over it Vantage Toreros they go right side and it's Lutz going off the blocking down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] booing they thought there was a double hit there on Lawrenceburg Robin honey hole so so in the moment feeling like that should have reserves an inner whistle instead of the two point differential Toreros down the line agos Van Sickle off with the past bump set to Helbig from Rossi and it was just too tough of an angle within one time it's getting good here down the homestretch of step number one I'm back let's go inside the numbers presented by Heineken the number is 80 that is the number of NCAA tournament victories for Hawaii fourth all-time in NCAA women's volleyball history Robyn amo got her very first in her tenure as head coach last night so 79 of those belong to that guy the legendary save children so San Diego has to feel good about where they're at here in this set one being out blocked by Hawaii hit and yet here they are her then make it to as healthy explains again by a hella good couple six or seven way off the net she finds a way around that walking down riff heat largest lead in this set was 6 for the boulders toy where was the right side slowing hits it into the pin and that's 23 serving 20 and a timeout by San Diego we will keep things here at the Stan Sheriff Center but it was a very fun night of volleyball last night first off San Diego in Washington say you're talking about a couple of nationally ranked teams maybe the most difficult opening round match in the entire NCAA tournament just from a matchup standpoint San Diego wins that one in four and then whole what you playing Northern Colorado last night and so many connections between those two programs as you had a homecoming for a couple of the assistants for Northern Colorado absolute John Horiguchi from photo and bi you may huh and he by the way practice had a special visitor come in to see him and she's actually a professor the ethnic studies program in the University of Hawaii and she could not come to the game she's a huge volleyball fans could not come to the game tell me well I'll be in the hospital I got surgery her name is dr. Davi Anna McGregor we wish her well as we know she's cheering from her hospital bed yeah very well said see Matt glad you were able to give her a shout-out and we hope that she is in good spirits as she takes in tonight's round to match all right let's send it over to Ryan hey thanks guys well the coaching staff here for the San Diego they're team they're being very adamant about their off blocker so their wing blockers getting more involved with the minnows they said we can continue to the Hawaii's middle school one on one so look for the San Diego to kind of make that adjustment and get more blockers up on Hawaii's middles back over to you guys your thoughts on that CMAC I'll tell you if they start putting two blockers up block for a lot of tip shots going to where that block that this came from 23 serving 20 out of the timeout and with Van Sickle back behind the service line here it comes tipped it in after a timeout outside it goes to fire [Applause] but she moved out personally outside good I mean good good footwork and then just straight down with his fly out he's such a great player and sit - that meant it with the tape outside here's by it again swing dug up I hope he knows second touch centered biosea and a free chance here for the Toreros they go slide to Turner and Lauren's Berger puts it down to delay things here as Hawaii tries to sink this opening cream what a sweet set from the noose very deceptive and right on the money good swing by Turner as well and even though the Libero 5-3 sophomore from crystal Texas with the serve right side is hell big off the block played up on the terreiro side dunk down by McKenna roll 1:25 21 we are going to have a call by the r1 Kevin Cole didn't call a net violation pink so unfit so so the separation from handfuls party pretty accurate the celebration postponed momentarily at least ITT off the one handset by Yasuo couldn't get it down the swing by throwing great up there you'll see on the second touch the swing by IgD again saved on the terreiro side the date by Phi ad and this ain't over yet in set one it is twenty three serving twenty four we'll bring about a timeout from robben amo take another look at McKenna Rossum confusion here the celebration for the set one win was on but there definitely was a touch there good call there by Kevin Cole Kevin call right on it he was got three feet away and he was very sure what his call was and you see McKenna Ross argue at all she knew she had falls through a little bit too far the tip of San Diego so credit for coming back his last two points playing really some good volleyball yeah they're showing obviously some of their grit and determination here trailed by six at one point in this first frame it was 2421 aloha ball for Hawaii in the first and right now San Diego with the serve a chance to tie it well amber IgD has led the way all offensively for the Rainbow Wahine six kills on eight plain Cena you can get some pretty good touches in there up early calling for the ball very aggressive and how about Katie Luke's for San Diego six kills in seven tries three sitio 857 huge night while you look at the numbers here Hawaii five total team blocks compared to zero for San Diego Hawaii hitting 355 compared to 273 on the other side and yet the Toreros within striking distance if they some help would be felt absolutely out here yeah and he can't win they start asking some questions ooh you know what Robin I'm all if that didn't happen she shall stay confident stay strong keep believing in yourself and good things will happen they but can they finish the deal - served by Benbow passed by Ross is on the money right side it's healthy [Applause] officialy please set number 125 23 they strike first here in this second round match between these two top-notch non power five conference programs this presentation of Rainbow Wahine volleyball is sponsored by Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Honda dealers welcome back well set one the freshmen Hana he'll be stepping up in the opener last night against Northern Colorado five kills on eight swings in that first range she was special today she doesn't she buy pills one error she's got me my black soul and then on to other bats that's really been a big difference in I twice five blocks to San Diego's now when the other side of the net theft it looks like Kenny Lucas still leading the way for the Toreros six kills in seven tries hitting 857 but top of a pair of freshmen held big and IgD with 11 kills in just one hitting error between them only three hitting errors in that purse frame as a squad for the lady bows all right for the latest information on UHF let's go to Hawaii athletics comm for you h news tickets videos and more also visit UHS twitter facebook Instagram and YouTube sites to follow your favorite teams and get current fan promotion set to underway it is Ross from the back row and she is denied by Lawrence Berner who has made a living out of civil stuff this is she's got 20 bucks all set it's ijt time again by herself turns it back GT the second time couldn't catch a flush trolling from the opposite position lock him down so quick two points start here for the Toreros inset number two coleus can be such a force their lights are in six five two swings high and hard with a good short serve by San Diego and diving first touch there by IgD advantage karara's turner the paintbrush swing pancake save toy ross two hands it over from the back roll so bump set goes cross-court suck rolling and she's able to find that deep corner and get it past the diving McKenna Ross growing averaging 2.65 kills per said this season went down three in the overpass by igt rolling again high hands kept alive by Aquino right side as you'll see other swing off bat good cover there by Ross cross-court bumps at Van Sickle kicked it down - finally scratch across its first point of this second wave Norwich plate side upset by the rain you'll see I put it right under 24 bad signal now Hawaii look maybe the favorite location was Green you'll see it back to surfing I think one of the fans favorite rotations as well whenever Marines back behind the service long you always say it's cement it's as good as any the rain did all the work and igb got to go get all the Greek go pancake and IgD calculation what do you do seven pilfer amber two seven three popped up there by Bengal right side was swing there by Roxy woodland she couldn't get it down but Hawaii unable to formulate a real transition there now ping-pong match above the tape bump separable keno goes to Van Sickle I didn't say been bold bright side it's wigglin again the day there's ot no flying in to save it you'll see yeah Oh a pancake saved by bimbo to keep it alive rolling is dug up and Hawaii will play it back he'll be another save there by Fayed to the neck cows there doesn't result in a winner here is rolling off of one foot and we'll keno there to keep it alive he'll big again off the double golf hands another pancake save this time by wiggling and we play on fired from the back row along this company the best defense we've seen all year my golf teams Rico quino's giving up her body dan bull out there with the great pancakes stretches out yet another one part of that with the low key and the barrels are putting on a show unfair I mean the stop the serum that was a tall stack of pancakes on that seat [Applause] here's trolling by the double Blockheads Akeno again saves it over the tape slide goes to Turner and off of one kid learns hurry to smack it down in San Diego it was a 300 Rainbow Wahine runs you have to make it air three kills and four tries serve there by wigglin here's my sickle that little crisscross in the middle and she just where did she come from yes you brought a straight-up lien with it crossing play Wow survived an sickle barely gets over the net Turner's gonna get a flush hit on it here's Ross eight dug up over the net by Ben Bova outs and it's a point for the Rainbow Wahine in the middle of that sequence San Diego was looking up at the r1 Kevin : they were asking for an interference penalty against ITT that no whistle came that is not a challengeable call either five serving for all goods back samples two throwing [Applause] by her lonesome [Applause] that can play pig is a blocker as well she's been a big hitter reach me but how about this block goes up presses over down 23 blocks on the year coming into this match for Ross and she got it there IgD got it on that occasion but it sent back over chance here for Hawaii IG need a soft touch the one hand say pinballed around good diving save initially there by Newsom right side is he'll be smothered that time by Turner and fire first team watt of the night great block line pressed over no big took a good swing out of a fire too much trauma there too [Applause] serving six this spirited effort here in this match so far from both sides here's Rossi cross-court got a touch and at the point for the bowl [Applause] [Music] she is how many passes are going to be behind the per meter line for each team is when the passes go behind a commuter line causes all sorts of problems for the attackers rolling cross court and lied no touch along the way so another point for Hawaii and it's gonna bring about a conversation between Jennifer Petri and her hit her grace trolling I'm not sure if she asked rolling if she thought it went in whatever the answer was it convinced Petri that she's going to challenge I believe the in out call it was close from our vantage point maybe she's challenging the touch maybe that's what she was asking throat [Music] and so once again Kylie Kimura will sport the headset as they take a look at this replay [Music] let's see if we can detect anything here all right so they're taking a look at the in or out that definitely looks out from there they can also though on a challenge for in or out they can also check to see if there was a touch and that right pinky perhaps [Music] on the Hawaii side if anything was the one that got a piece but we'll see we can write Kanoa you win that battle one-to-one well we'll see what the call is here from Kimora quality challenge there by Jennifer petulant add to the intrigue of the chess match between these two coaches [Applause] what a job she has done 21 seasons as head San Diego has advanced to the NCAA tournament under Petri 19 of the last 20 20 years including the last 10 seasons in a row coming off of a sweet 16 appearance a season ago there with a victory here this evening [Applause] 6:37 and it is pulling getting the whistle signal here at home we hand passed there by Ross right side its Helbig and she bounces it just inside of that [Applause] so just naturally the first willing to give a lot of credits a bit Hillier her first assistant Jimmy London million record right but the 21 he was actually head coach at one point I think we should take a maternity leave or something but she's got a great coaching staff yeah you can't beat that kind of continuity certainly part of the reason why San Diego is what it is as a program out a system here though and a three chance for Hawaii Middlesex Kai Williams rattled around fire they'll get a swing out of it just lollipops it over though I want you only attack they go outside it's Rossi against the solar block and she eats it up no point for the bowl that whole Hawaiian control at her play was because they forced a bad pass officer so nine serving six Hawaii hitting 238 here in set 2 compared to 111 for the Toreros Choi the serve has been tough here this evening Jacobson just this and is able to get the point before the Toreros well that's how you get eight in a four hundred hitting Crusaders to the season you get shots like that's a girl she's really kind of pretty placing her tips where there aren't any playing some candy without outside you'll see you against the double block okie know the cover Choi goes back to Narine more action I think that she thought she'd get tonight especially on the left side twenty-fifth Rainbow Wahine to win Conference Player of the Year tenth in Hawaii's history as a member of the Big West Conference Hiwassee high ball comes ed Van Sickle time the jump dougga by Benbow it goes to the loops and loops pushes it ride [Applause] she's pretty perfect tonight six kills it's her first error in nine tries and it is 625 now largest lead of set two for Hawaii [Applause] down to three adults just like a mirror image of the first satellite choking the think we leave about this as they approached 15 camon text ad witness sir started her career at oregon sky Wiggins sends it long nose so you have the connection with Cameron cast ad and the three Oregon transfers on the Hawaii side between trip Van Sickle Julie Rasmussen in Cairo now said of course from solo Beach California I think a lot of the reason why she transferred back was to be closer to home and sick while taking a little something off good layout save their task that by at his dug up by Aquino Troy has to chase down the second touch almost put down on the two-handed set there San Diego just wasn't ready funky here I'll tell you freezing sleet ball-and-stick Tamara was a little deep in their passing pattern now Ross five kills how about the match she had against Northern Colorado 14 put downs to leave Hawaii was the only player in double figures and kills for the bowls a tuck shot there by Fayed easy pickings for okey know the set tight where that connection not detroy AGB connection has been frequent solace all year long that one though goes wrong way too long clearly be the first one to admit that here is Newsome Barcelona Spain senior sends it over Choi highballs it outside the Van Sickle up on Springs and she smokes it works oh crap doesn't twitchy as well what a team that has had a very thin schedule of action here in the last several weeks maybe it's all paying off now they got all this out of you talk about the rest versus rust debate last night bring the serve across a forceful serve that forces the overpass and then IG Diaz dug up back over the net you'll see ya outside this time the Van Sickle cross-court fit up there by pembo touched over bike rolling gears helping the other way a little to fire but what you got up to a fairly slow start last night right they were going basically swing to see that we will be Colorado through the first two sets 26:24 Bowl sense and so after the match when asked about that Robin Omo and the players felt like it wasn't necessarily a lisp type of thing it was maybe a little too much adrenaline as you see it just misses inside the plane 70,000 people excitement of playing for the first time in teenagers all that led into a lot of their self-inflicted wounds last night Roxy wigglin witness served as bio key no no see I was hiding away - Helbig oh she put a hit on it missed the floor wide though no touch at the net and so another point the San Diego within two behind the service line by Whitman she moves closer to the San Diego bench to line up for this one down the line it goes she puts on Rossi held big bump set it's been a result in an easy transition opportunity here for the Toreros Turner though the set a little low he gets the 15 first we got a timeout on the floor by three in the second welcome back let's take a look at the jet pack tier the select few how about this NCAA Division one women's volleyball teams there are 332 programs but teams with an NCAA Tournament appearance 247 about teams with an NCAA championship just ten Hawaii has three of them Stanford has the most but that is the elite company that is kept when it comes to national titles in NCAA tournament see that change over time this court becomes more diverse more parity develops how about the offense let's check the office these two teams why get into buck 82 the only reason they're hannah's of San Diego sitting at the 0 for 0 forcing a free chance here for Hawaii they go crossing pattern with healthy and she blacks it off the hands and after another holding point bad news is they didn't fool San Diego two blockers are up the good news is the Philippines got a handle eight kills now for the freshman from Stockholm Sweden outside said it goes to throw Lang and sheep great battle respective conference freshman of the year on either side [Applause] vengo with the server back-stepping the pass-by okey know they go right side it's held they'd towards the middle of the net though folding sends it back over on the second touch IG be the date good layout save their fire fired from her knees it's it allowed trolling the full swing sliding along the floor the dick by okey know how big is blocked good cover there by IgD and free chance here now for the Toreros right side here's rolling down the line one hand say volcano from the back row and keeping it alive is wiggling right side rolling again [Applause] [Music] they just kept feeding and feeding gracefully and she finally found the Teraflex exchanged milk in a one hander their roles Pop's it up lengthens the rally to San Diego they keep firing away six five parolees bearing it already ten digs for Rica little set mistimed IgE just has to touch it over oh but the set goes on the whole lot eastside just at the net but he plays it back Ross tried to fist it off the block now it's the Toreros coming back with it the tough shot by wiggling diving save yo sia come set to healthy bears wigglin guarding the backline middle signals to Jacobson she's blocked by igt goalie slaps it over okey no legs out on the save you'll see a trips on 89 from her knees okey no able to send it over here's Fayed sliding say Vance it people sent Ross is a an exhaustive sequence they're finally cleaned by San Diego to see to see prices in a row that time quick changing a bought can as the last word my graceful courage most of it Jacobson also in on the fun the San Diego within one years how good the defense in school right now Laura Turner said 375 on the year so for hitting 221 Jacobson number 7 hitter in the country 84 11 tonight hitting 286 this says a lot about the defense was going on it's amazing to sort of have this dynamic play out where these two teams met at the season opener and here they are last match that will be played in Honolulu this season for the Rainbow Wahine win or lose but just to see the evolution of these two teams right and some of the personnel changes McKenna Ross did not play in that sea she was out that opening weekend of action for Hawaii trolling didn't play in that opener for San Diego sir a different vibe here on the floor this second time around Fayette the dink locked back by healthy they go right side it's trolling heard date shot dug up by ITV over the net and and easy put down there for Meghan Jenkinson [Applause] see here to San Diego run and we are all tied out here they're starting to assert themselves at the net meghan jacobson actually she can take over from there she is so such a great blocker and a counter Denbo putting together a good service run here for the Toreros here's Rossi and she gets the out of a sticky rotation [Music] or straight points therefore the Toreros employing the tourniquet wasn't McKenna Ross the earlier in the year Rossum hit that one in the middle blocker now she's working the edges of the block way better Davidson pants Ross and Williams hurt I said she was hitting under 400 when she was a yeah she's now at 364 thank you very much lost the first touch you'll see it goes back row to Van Sickle and Jacobsen got a good chunk of it at the net floor for another hole what you point and they trading blows here in the latter portions of set number two [Music] you wouldn't think that someone of her size would be a back throw attacker like that but she's got such great hops she's got a great vision she knows how to stay behind the pre-meeting line not step on it so they are they're unafraid to use her when necessary Bailey Choi [Applause] [Music] Bayley joy devastating so far this weekend and there is family choice younger brother Anu who is going to be a member of the University of Hawaii men's volleyball programs it's um CEC camera-shy what do you think you know always having fun either way slide Jacobson dug up along the backline by Van Sickle Choi facing the net sets up you'll see and she the real EOC adjust has an app there's going to be a debate here between the San Diego not sure what they're arguing you're sitting CMAC a clear touch off the block in a few i think Jacobs are saying that either Billy Troy or attacker crossed under the centerline caused the violation yeah nope also hole lucky a little bit of breathing room here 20 serving 17 the pass there by Ben Bo if I add the date and that's going to be a double hit called against the remedial seal argue that the first touch came on the block attempt if that's the case then she would be allowed to get the first official touch of the side of off the ricochet and now we're gonna have the conversation between Kevin calling tiny Kimura this is one of those that could result in a redo I agree this could be Arabia County through our quick tip to help Kevin Kyle make a distinction about whether whether or not the first touch was as a blocker by Nick Mourinho SIA only whether she was a bigger to play over over it would have given San Diego bring the point there would be within two but I think I mean you'll see I'm making a good point yeah during as she was coming on the way down she had not landed yet so she was still an active blocker therefore she gets two touches did look awkward I can understand sort of from the official standpoint it didn't look like a potential violation that via the replay certainly you'll see is still a blocker on that initial music that Lisa pratfall that that's going to satisfy Jennifer Petri in any way shape [Applause] you know here's what I saw I saw during the LCS still coming down from the block and so it was not in the illegal gun attack she's a shown a pool control over there as the are to the last couple of evenings is Fayed had to go lefty because the set tight to the net and then ago ping-pong match above the tape last touched out by the Toreros in is opened up a four-point advantage that counts the crowd was in it here at the SSC enjoy behind the scenes look at the alleyway eateries in Japan and Hawaii as well as the iconic foods that make up our local light style on the yokocho and wiegel each series December 9th to 13th at 8 p.m. only on spectrum OC 16 while a packed house once again here at the Stan Sheriff Center some of them celebrating the birthday of a vet guy right there Kaleo Baxter we wish him a happy birthday I hope he enjoys his late 20s served by trollee out of the timeout slide that's Jacobson but she put a heavy beating on it but a great dig by or keno another pitter patter competition at the net in Hawaii now in transition you'll see a block but she saves it herself outside it goes to lost the touch shot by Ed chases down the first touch from the back row it swiveling dug up you'll see a high ball bump set Ross to hands it over now they advantage for the terreiro Sian against two blockers just fires it through and who I had the advantage that whole rally but sandy was so Tom never-say-die head of a defensiveness my Jacobson with terrific awkward played poppy about 18 serving 21 here at them confide in to the [Applause] and it is just the second service error for San Diego no aces for them however Hawaii with two aces on itself outside Central's taluks Katie weeks of blige's participated in the u.s. women's national team tryouts it kills a pretty low percentage though first time around against 0:37 to open the season goes past that on the third says it in former Oregon teammate Luke Van Sickle but it just gets a piece of that sideline and a huge well-timed a scoop and intestine his last week points would be very difficult to lie to get the guy right get a good sight out here we're gonna break another great serve by kamsa great saved there in the back row by Payton Douglas oops freebie for Hawaii yeah we saw how hard it was for the Rainbow Wahine [Music] two minutes away from getting the big to set advantage you [Applause] here's Okemo 23 serving 20 ships gets it above the tape mooks through the double block layout one-handed save rossi and a free opportunity here for the Toreros what do they do with it they go outside woods by the double block and Rossi couldn't get there on the second toss well Katie Lutz just from the outside [Applause] works just as you say on fire nuisance and their better scoring servers behind the line here's Van Sickle up the ladder an in violation called against the toe [Applause] both for Hawaii in the second the Stan Sheriff Center standing and the tradition for the longest time has been to stand up on just neck long time campaign champ [Music] you'll see him with the jumpsuit outside his bowling cross court and wide note so in this second when the Rainbow Wahine Oh opportunities to crack OH at the Stan Sheriff Center [Music] welcome back let's take a look at the McDonald's of math statistics Hawaii up two sets to none see Macker well the biggest difference is the kill percentage why getting hundred points higher than San Diego is just more efficient making fewer errors only nine errors that to San Diego's 13 and dicks about even the real highlight on the jig's wanna tell you how about Rico Dino it's set number two one digging the first set 11 digs in the second set I think we get to see something here maybe might be a highlight Rica highlights show coming up oh I like that the premonition here on on what's coming here in some of our production elements but you're right Hawaii behind defensive play like what we have seen from Rico Aquino scrambling keeping the ball off the Teraflex they couldn't remaster much more throughout those first two sets real she goes great burger she keeps falling on her own site and then a lot of people will stand straight up no dick the ball over the net to the opponent she does a pretty good job of keeping the ball inside of the net so centers can run a play but how about only two aces by Hawaii the knuckleballer for the MLB baby joy it just drops out she picks up a couple Asians a great strikeout pitch from the service line for Bailey Choi but it Robin amo has to be pleased with the way her team has played and they continue to fend off the runs that San Diego has made to get back in the mix they even tied that second set at one point the Rainbow Wahine able to create some space and finish the deal let's say this girl Robert people I'm sure Robin Omo told 13 between sets two and three the 10 like it's the first step do not get too cocky about what just happened being up 2-0 volcano bump set to help being off the block good cover there by Van Sickle Batgirl said it's Rossi and then go via [Applause] [Music] now Robin are more children said did not have the team retreat all the way to the locker between sets two and three she brought them back into the hallway just outside of the lower concourse area behind the tunnel that's a good idea it's a really short intermission thinner cheaper a hot team [Applause] hit help even the shoulders of the terreiro defender international experience play for the national team for four sweeteners really paid off [Music] three chance here for Hawaii you'll see his backside the helping gets it down again he'll dig the first in our own eyes then to reach double figures in case she has ten Yossi Mills where her friend is Carter go to the heavy hitter he'll dig when she's hot it's buttered in Sweden - serving one short jump served there by Van Sickle slide goes to Turner and a good job by Ross to get a chunk on that block attacked here's helping again on that opposite position she is put anymore the roller ghoster by Rico Kino she not only piggy but she's got something going on tonight as well Rico people that is her third Isis yes she has turned that pump set either way either pin to have is an art form here this season Helvey got that one block back that sickle keeps it alive to the net for this Rainbow Wahine squad they're just safe quick they've gotten so hard the clay to the last ball drops gotta love their passion for the game and the perseverance on every rally I mean nobody celebrates quite like Amber I GT slide goes to Turner with 40 little resistance at the mint that'll quiet the crowd or turn my swing there for here early on in set number three let me take in the first twenty five twenty three taking set to 25 21 out of volleyball left here in this round to match up Rossi on the Tulane time to burn inward towards the middle of the neck area you'll see on the set and Rossy obliging it's almost what they call a tandem one fire on top of another player while she's stuck in there to take a different set of that same set to be outside of the four set that's good becoming very easy to block right side the block goes up I'm not sure if the loop see it did get a piece of that Lachlan Luke says we'll get it down in the hole went inside for the point sir Rossi get over than in on that when I sell through space between Aussies hands and notes yet another k3 so v5 Hawaii on a system here eyeball bumps head goes to Ross to blockers up good dick thereby Benbow that it goes over the net so Hawaii on the attackers hell's big winds up uncoiled and a layout save in the back row by add the dink shot sliding saved thereby you'll see a back bump set to lofty no [Applause] take heed I'll be the first one to say I did not mean to the nine-foot should be the first one to say that to take the assist anyway but how about Rossi being aggressive from the 9 foot long love that block six serving three Hawaii hitting 500 here to start this third set same percentage as San Diego except Hawaii with six kills San Diego with three right side big swing Mike rolling [Applause] San Diego the West Coast Conference champions for the 11th time fifth time this decade does a great shot by grace throwing normally she's been going cross-court some white wheat they're blocking she noticed that and so she went back down the line where to his face nice job of chewing the two men passed there by Ross Middlesex Esther Williams and lack got a piece so right sides that goes to fro Ling soft touched it block back rattled around throwing another swing and it's tapped back over biosea trollee a third time she to hands it over Ross plays it along the sideline you'll see it jumps up himself touches it past the block I've been saved there by Phi AB against Bo buddies and that's gonna be a point for San Diego large fall yeah I mean you'll see I got anything [Applause] 18th in the latest AVC a pill San Diego 20th is to add to the similarities between these programs away the 12 seed though here in the NCAA tournament as you'll see against the nine Oh Boldin who again didn't play the first time around she eased into her role this season because she's a freshman pleasant surprise certainly in terms of her expeditious development for Jennifer Petri and company there's Ross on the opposite side went longing missed it wide no like that Sandiego for Otero here at this juncture of set number three nineteen kills in August thirtieth against the San Diego Zoo she'll be facing a different end blocker though in 65 gracefully sushi sushi huh boy get out of this rotation hit hit 390 in that season opener middle set [Applause] from Bailey Choi I think everybody in the gym was thinking the balls and he said you know rounds loose it'll be outside but she got sucked in but you know what it's a great pass and sky Williams up early on that one no block he saw the numbers against Northern Colorado last night for Rasmussen making her return after missing action was injured in the seventh match of the season first appearance since September 12 [Applause] no the magician simple finishing the play so one night one-handed lieutenant dick by Rico Zito yeah a left-handed tip over hi sickly go figure there's one left hand and there's the other left hand great reaction to the facial expression of repo he no perhaps nobody showing the vast level of improvement throughout her career more than Rico [Applause] that's when they tasted this first team all WCC that's why meghan jacobson was when they all turn the team here on either side we go that's it great shot and a service error is a back to Hawaii and they're up nine 800 was a tree behind along sir return Jolie Rasmussen the options that it provides for robbing our mole does not even feel compelled to turn to her until this third set because that starting rotation was playing so well earlier step out goes to Jacobson one and save Rico keno it's become repetitive Ross dug up with two hands by Douglas tight to the net the set Fayed touches it over rattle the role of Hawaii side band sickle the swing good Zig there right then bow that role said it goes to women just taps it over Choi tried to catch him neck and nothing doing come set to Van Sickle two blockers up she tried to shove a pass down now the Toreros bringing it back it's wigglin Hino toy highballs it's a Van Sickle off the block diving layout saved Newsome and then put through the Logan down good effort on all sides well played so above all where once again that last punch in it's meghan jacobson time for the fifth time already in this third set san diego for their season down Oh - right side it's Jolie and a net violation called again swing results in a point rasmussen to the bench mourinho SIA comes in but here's a good look in the knit cans of that breakfast in smooth arena sir it's a good one could handle there by Bendel up a one-leg it's jacobson deep corner and in she was really living up to her number seven in the country no percentage reputation take it - now almost 400 deep kills [Applause] establishes its it deep the past there by Ross middle said ITV slams at home here in this middle portion of set three learner connection that's it largest lead for Hawaii and this third set was three they've been tied six times on the second touch the swing by on a Newsome she is her reputation one of the more offensive minded setters and being the south was quite an advantaged the first time we've seen her bust this out tonight that she's actually that's a record of attempt I think the others no not that left-handed swing like that I was impressive to say the least here she is now with the serve and San Diego jumps ahead Robin Elmo will take a timeout doesn't like what she is seeing transpire here the last few sequences we'll take a break as well welcome back let's check out the first one banks top three we are looking at all-time NCAA Division one winning percentages Penn State atop the stack 86% throughout the years and coddled the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine number two on that list this is all-time wins not just tournament wins this is all-time pretty personal you saw Nebraska three-position they await the winner of this match in the next round of the NCAA tournament to be played in Madison Wisconsin been sick who sends it none from the back row so San Diego by to a three Oh I'm Newsome again sends it across you'll see it sets up Ross with two blockers up and she sends a signal past them go in the back door that does not look like the swing of someone who is recruited as a libero and defensive specialist she's worth appeared either low to the outside that's for sure finally earning some rest this year Big West Conference honorable mention first time in book four ears but Saint thereby you'll see of bodies hitting the floor all over the place tiller was on the attack hi Paul outside it goes to Pro Lane she nice control shot by throwing that time smart shot kill of patrolling so the T Conference freshman of the Year bowling in the San Jose Diego held these on the side of her so far this evening see on the set goes back side to helping great layout save by Newsome free chance come in here for the bones you'll see you again goes to Hana off the fingertips of the block the up there by Newsom bump set strolling two hands at over okey no chases it down plumb said you'll see a goes to Ross from a standing position couldn't find the floor sank back to Hawaii side here's Williams in the middle didn't get all [Applause] appreciate ya we're seeing bodies on the floor both sides of the mat San Diego playing for its postseason life right here and Hawaii trying to see if they can somehow conjure up a ticket to the sweet 16 middle said its Turner there's okie knows from one knee choi sets a fan sickle in the back row chased down on the second touch there by bimbo and slapped over by Fayed Hawaii on the attack here's Rasmussen the touch shot been broken sliding in violation against the Toros every time Jolie takes a swing over there USD comes into the time I think she's gonna start swinging at that though she had a good set I guess she saw four hands across she would have a shot maybe I don't know but I really think she ought to start banging away at those he looks the banging for the high hands so we're tied for the eighth time here in set three [Applause] too hard to handle fur and then [Applause] he's got no spin at all just that's just filthy it is it fits [Applause] Marnie credited with being Bailey's first real volleyball coach throughout her youth [Applause] Fayed sends it long no touch up front up to maybe put together for strength nearly toy with Beeston from behind the service here one by Jennifer Petri and the Toreros we'll take a break as well I want you to take your internet with you spectrum Internet customers get free unlimited access to over 4,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the islands and of course one of those hotspots right here the Stan Sheriff Center a particularly hot spot this evening with a huge crowd once again for the second consecutive night I've got Rico okay no set one one big since then 17 and many of them have been mesmerizing by Nature [Applause] [Music] [Applause] five Oh rainbow run here comes from joy again forces the overpass open in handcuffs Joliet the neck it was just about the tape and she was a little uncertain as to how to attack that make or receive it and she got caught in the land of in-between so break therefore the Toreros there's been go good things have happened for San Diego and been goals been behind the service line Jody Rasmussen through from the outside position this time Rasmussen again missing so many matches throughout the year after getting injured back on September 12th against West Virginia has made her return here this weekend important you think for Robin mo not just to help spark things in this third set but just to get Jolie some action as they consider possibly moving forward here in the tournament she came back very slowly because remember she said Detroit wins recently signed seven on the other so she's being extra cautious in how she came back big break there for the hose they're up three million to 16 and it is becoming Now or Never time for the Toreros [Music] loosing front row right now the light has got to be careful when tight passes for Newsome to start taking over okay no into the man [Applause] [Music] a few things she hasn't done is evening right side here's Rasmussen through the back and down Joely with four kills matches her output from the last evenings match [Applause] membership 19 of those in August now she's just having though she's playing three six rotations then he's only playing look up happy shoes look like ten rotations now the only playing half a second how good it must feel to be back in the mix back in action Jolie Rasmussen Jacobson off a two feet good save there by you'll see ax and then a miss handle on the set [Applause] we have seen those assists in other instances that time though it Gesell's around in the pond [Applause] get the ball and play defense that time didn't work out this will attendance numbers just under 7,000 through the turnstile you'll see a high in a way to helping caught the fingertip to the block the save by fire cross-court it goes to loops it'll be played back right side here Van Sickle cross-court an end a little too hot to handle so Jacobson [Applause] the turban suppose Gary and Lisa miss Kent Boomer Rainbow Warrior player in the eighties Middies that's right play from 88 to 90 mom Lisa played Hawaii Pacific University and also professionally in Argentina here's Turner on the side right there is okie no Ross [Applause] [Music] [Applause] advantage and signaled by San Diego get the lead of this third frame for the rainbow wahine once again these would be the three bonus points of the night for Hawaii to earn it's not going to be easy going down the stretch that's for sure company has once again punched in for evenings work here against San Diego [Applause] tonight set make that seven blocks tonight [Applause] by the way Johnny Williams a couple lv3 there you see this is updated including tonight's work the total team blocks as we bring you the Akamai roofing report let's check in while we have a break with Ryan Cole a suture hey thanks for all well the coaching staff here on San Diego sideline they turn from tactics to more motivational right now they're telling their team look at how hard you're having to work for just one point one point all of the defense all of the rallies that are going on just to get one point you have to keep scratching you have to keep going we didn't think it was going to be this hard but we have got to fight back over to you guys what kind of I was going to say in that Martin the roofing report we're talking about a lot of the fans in the mainland might be watching this now they don't know of it assistant coach and joke a new quest four-time all-american promises to do a lap for each one of those blocks and she hates to run yeah it's been a motivational tool for Hawaii but she will be out there running make sure she pays off again isn't the marathon tomorrow maybe we should just do that call it even catch the greatest plays biggest blocks at scheduled info by following spec sports high on Instagram Facebook and Twitter out of the timeout Hawaii by poor concept cross-court goes to loops and it'd be returned over the net another try here for the Toreros loose a heavy-handed swing dug up by Opie no she's digging everything looks like Jim is able to pull aim for what people on good and mrs. Salinas - Stroke Center I live here - not go across broke the line got the easy part well I'd say about 20 digs now for Rico okay no middle set iga misses taking a stab at the save let it and if you're San Diego this is the server you want behind the line on a nuisance goes down the line Ross passed tight to the net one handset two IgD just saw touched it over maybe it gotten away near the farm so she makes up for with two homes [Music] [Applause] you betcha [Applause] is that Kevin Cole she was held up he now is he to overthrow testing the yellow coming out of the back pocket whole conversation continues between Jennifer Petri and Kylie ki-moon take another look yellow card officially being given I do favor build the Petri in that bench boats and even may have had a beef bit yeah [Music] Cass you'll see a back side here's healthy let's dug up by usin so the bump set coming from bingo [Applause] here at the Stan Sheriff Center 8,000 tickets sold in the building the middle location comments along so they will remain standing it remains Aloha ball and it is Roxy wiggling to serve that's by Van Sickle you'll see a right side here's healthy it wins to advance to the sweet 16 Amy your concerns did not see you down coming I saw maybe a five [Music] the coaching talent as well only saw it going longer but I think cannot believe it the crowd made a difference and it did the players will really will prepare that put yourself in a good game plan this very strong San Diego team and they executed the wrong fireman duty from chile matheson mostly the same lineup has been winning the last couple weeks of the year worn again tonight rains their best all-around of the season Hawaii has now than CMAC five by way of the sweet able to sleep all your bodies we spent most of the year sewing four to five squeaking it out now they are really starting to put it together marriage amazing there were some fantastic individual performances on both sides we look at Katie loops though double figures and kills she had ten hit 471 just an amazing number one dig and she was just firing laser beams all evening long and Hana Helbig 11 kills 276 percentage three blocks and a dig Scott Rob is with a Robin amo coach congratulations you're going to the sweet 16 and you know I were just saying that was awesome hell yeah good great game but our girls just came they came from the beginning that's off to them and it was like everybody stepped up I mean Rico Aikido was terrific in the back row hopefully keep playing like that and Hana who didn't play the last two sets last night she really cared you guys also offensively yeah she got more in the game but you know it happens you don't know not everybody's gonna have the same game every night so it's good that Jolie stepped into and Hannah came back tonight what does this mean for you and for your program each year we get any further this year yeah by the way I looked at the weather reports they're expecting snow later this week congratulations thank you all right guys back over to you that's right neither rain neither snow and either Smith whatever it is this Rainbow Wahine volleyball teams is advancing to the Suites take on the Nebraska [Music] the exquisite coming from the light [Applause] I'll visit the new spectrum store of pearl Highland Center above Sam's Club learn about Spectrum mobile and get the best devices latest technology and coolest accessories the stores open Monday through Saturday 9 to 8 Sundays 10:00 to 6:00 well CMAC we now ship this rainbow wahine squad off to madison wisconsin to take on nebraska in the next round the regional hosted by the Badgers and they do so they advance via an impressive all-around performance resulting in a sweep victory over an extremely high quality San Diego Toreros team yeah how about you know the effort by Rico quinoa surely he led the spirit tonight I think for that team 20 digs on the night out of the 51 big ticks room for from Rico Aquino and for him the doubters out there that thought that maybe Hawaii was was not good enough or they're too small or boy I'm telling you the doubters can go away because this team is the real deal sky's the limit as to how far they could go as well that was my next question I mean you have a team that is rich in history and a tradition of success in Nebraska awaiting Hawaii in the next round but how much of a chance do you give this Rainbow Wahine squad if they play with this level of tenacity and effectiveness I didn't chance for sure Nebraska lost a mess up I believe the loss of set tonight to Missouri team to Hawaii beat earlier this season but I think that Hawaii can can go with the team like Nebraska rouse is very good by the way nobody used to the climate a little bit better than Hawaii but the doors let's take it inside it's the same climate indoors that's right and the measure of the net is just as I and the Hawaiians on the floor of the same so now who cares this is like a Hoosier story by the way that's I did and hose you to measure the height of the basket this is the same thing Robbie should take a tape back then and say look that's the same does this get out there and play is this is one really special group of young ladies very special I agree with you I think sky's the limit here and we shall see how it plays moving forward Hawaii advances to the sweet 16 that's it for us we're Powell in our season which CMAC it's been a pleasure I'll see you when the men take the Teraflex in January I'm excited to be part of the great season don't forget about the Heineken postgame show after this but for now for the wonderful one and only Chris McLaughlin I'm Kanoa Leahey until next time everybody Aloha from the Stan Sheriff Center [Music] [Applause] years of the night also added a couple of blocks about the block in Hawaii watch again showing their muscle at the net up blocking San Diego nine to three leading the way with four blocks was on a hill dig also with four block with Skylar Williams this way completely music as an offensive weapon as well Rica okey no have won big in the first set she had 19 bigs in the pilot who says the finish with 20 on the night was at 20 receptions without an error talking about Honda hell big setup the last game of the year as Hawaii wins it in three and they're off to Madison Wisconsin from spectrum sports it's the Heineken postgame show hi everybody thanks for sticking around it is a Heineken postgame show Scott Lisa and Ryan and you would think we would learn about this team since day one that never to predict I was really concerned about this match I mean very concerned I'd never thought in a million years that Hawaii would sweep San Diego tonight but they did I knew they were sweet that's for sure I thought it was going to be a little tougher watching San Diego last night and tonight as well they put up a good fight but Hawaii was just all in system they were in what I would call the UC state everything they did seemed to turn up right the unconscious state yeah on a pretty depressing day for you a chattel etics this really turned out to be really not only a great way to finish but really a great way for this program to really bring their name back into the conversation of being a national contender I mean think about the process that this team has got to go to in order to get to a regional semifinal it has been a long road here for this team and really happy for the program in its players but you know you're looking down the stat sheet I mean some of these numbers are gaudy to think that Hawaii if you were tell me some of these numbers last night that that's what Hawaii would hit tonight I would say you're crazy because San Diego just would look like so such a tough team look at this Hawaii out blocking San Diego nine to nine to Fox III that's incredible their heavy percentage at 277 against a team like that I mean it was it really shows how hard the team work tonight and to think to me that was impressively so said we've seen Hawaii go up and down all season long they stayed up the entire map yeah and I think you know that's that's exactly what you want you work hard all season long you've got different players contributing with different times different lineups but really in the long run the bottom line is you want to be coming in to your best performance as your season goes further into it so how nice is it for all the team the staff and especially the fans to see this team accelerate and actually be so cohesive and together in this suite and I think that's probably part of the reason why Robin didn't monkey around with the lineup we were sitting here in game on trying to figure out what kind of lineup she would go with she stuck with the lineup that's gotten her here and that was probably the right call well I think so definitely I think the team has also become very confident and trusting in one another they know where each player is and I and I really like the play of McKenna Ross tonight I thought that she has just steadied out so much she's smarter she sees the court very well but also her defense she came up with some phenomenal plays tonight as well yeah and I think the overall passing as well as Hawaii really helped to stabilize those three between Ross Van Sickle and Rica really did a nice job of they they got aged only twice but for the most part Hawaii was in system they were able to run the meadows when they wanted to and really establish themselves so I think Hawaii's outsides really did a nice job of not only providing that offensive live when needed to but they also passed really well all right let's take a look now at the bracket so we can get an idea of where Hawaii sits and where they'll be going this is the top left you see Nebraska getting by Ball State in the first round beating Missouri and floor earlier today and then of course Hawaii in the only sub regional which had three top 25 teams according to the coaches poll Hawaii comes away with a four Center against Northern Colorado and then go figure they talked about San Diego and three and so they will beat up with Nebraska I think Friday probably right we'll find out the other half of the Hawaii bracket Texas A&M up by st. John's rice beat Oklahoma than a.m. gets by the Owls and then the hosts Wisconsin easily over Illinois State and you CLA so it'll be Hawaii the fresco Texas A&M Wisconsin in Madison later this week what I like about that is Hawaii against Nebraska not at Nebraska yes I like that because Nebraska is known I think they have the highest attendance rate besides Hawaii in the nation so it's more of a neutral court if you will and Nebraska's number five they're big they're strong they're very well coached but I like Hawaii's level of play right now where they're at their confidence and hitting the road yeah and I think a lot of it is gonna come just down to how well they travel and it's a fun place to trap again but we been there back in 2004 when we had to play Wisconsin at the time when I was in the coaching staff and Hawaii I actually end up losing in five to Wisconsin but it was a battle and a lot of it was because of the travel it is a long road all the way out there so I think one of the things that's going to be important for Hawaii is to travel well but again it helps now that Jolie Rasmussen is available they have options with the lineup and again you were talking about the size of a team like Nebraska I think it says a lot when you look at some of these San Diego players at six-three six-four and Hawaii dealt with it McKenna Ross had a block solo against them so I I think height does matter but Hawaii proving tonight that they can beat height turn temperature by the way lease tonight looked right after the match what was it 35 degrees 35 degrees this nothing's not again freeze yeah like coach Robin said where she trained slow sleep ever again play indoors take the break come back what happens you're juggling Robin ah mo [Music] welcome back to the Heineken postgame show regional semi-final the sweet 16 and they will take on the University of Nebraska this Friday we did just take a look and the semi finals on Friday the finals are on Saturday for Hawaii in Wisconsin against Nebraska you know what I thought was really cool was that after this match was POW on the players went off the floor everybody remained and then they all stood up and stuttered chanting let's go bulls kind of like a curtain call at baseball until the team would come out and take a bow basically that was chicken skin that was and I think really what's what the fans are showing is their appreciation and how much they enjoyed such awesome volleyball so many long rallies and just the spirit of this team and the Aloha that they're sharing and fitting them off with that yeah and I think they just got a really good show tonight some of those rallies were incredible I mean the n-c-double-a has been posting some of the long rallies right now on their Twitter and Instagram handle I can guarantee you there's gonna be a few rallies that are gonna be posted there tonight because some of those rallies were insane and you know in talking and listening to the sidelines and the coaching staff for San Diego I mentioned in I'm in my sideline report but they were just saying we did not think that you'd have to work look at how hard you're having to work just for one point it's only one point but you're having to go through multiple rallies and as we can see the San Diego players being greeted by the anti CR again another sign of some of the best fans in the world but you know I think it caught them by surprise they got frustrated at times because Hawaii just kept playing credible defense in that traditional Wahine a style of play I know last night obviously they came out the gates a bit sluggish 26 24 they won the first they dropped the second 26 24 then they played lights out the final two matches and you guys are talking about as well it just took them awhile to get the nerves in check and I think that was good last night for that to happen because they didn't show any ill effects from last night they came out strong from the beginning I think they did and I think the biggest thing is going to be moving forward going up to the mainland is that they stick together but that they also start kind of how they're leaving off here you do not want to get off to a slow start again to Nebraska that's for sure because playing catch-up not on your home turf with the home crowd behind you although you're saying that the crowd will probably before them yeah I think I think at least in the first match against Nebraska the Wisconsin fans they're in the same conference Wisconsin Nebraska they don't want to see Nebraska if they can get by who they're gonna play right I'm sure the majority of fans will be rooting for Hawaii but there'll be a lot of Nebraska fans Nebraska fans travel really well but one of the things that I noticed unites from the players from the get-go was just there was this feistiness behind them I mean we saw players screaming for sets that normally don't call balls like mckenna ross was screaming for says I saw reco okey know at one point yell at the setter on the other team after she dug her dump say you're easy like they were just I mean it was it was this sort of chip on your shoulder shoulder they were not gonna give up and it was nice to see that some of the amber ogia we see her doing that all the time but it kind of was infectious and we saw this other swagger to this Wahine a team that I had not seen all season long so why are the only remaining non power five school left there 16 teams left downs and I'm trying to think if Hawaii is the only one that is not any power five I think so I think I think you might yeah I think you're right yeah well we have somebody in the truck they'll let us know like I guarantee you that how much do you think the crowd played a factor this weekend huge huge the whole whiteout guys yeah you like my weight colorblind I think the crowd was huge the energy that they get from this this crowd in the stands Sheriff the noise everybody's standing up clapping the music the cams the Flex cam the dance cam there's so much going on it's such good energy you cannot describe this energy until you come down to this arena and sit here personally you just don't get that vibe by the way right Cincinnati upset seeded Pittsburgh earlier today so there the other non earned the American Athletic so there are two non par five schools left yeah there you go and I was also gonna add to what Lisa said about the fans here at the Stan Sheriff Center I think one of the things that also showed is its kind of brought the fans back here I mean the past few seasons the loyal fans have continued to come back but you know season ticket numbers were down this past year and I think that they've just sort of Ria's establish themselves with this style of play and you look at this lineup there are a lot of freshmen a lot of juniors in this class this next year's team I mean I know the season is not over yet but it you can't help but look forward to the next one he volleyball team and and and the amount of talent they have coming back yeah and the question of course going into next year will be the setting position they do have a freshman coming in out of Texas named Kate laying they do have a freshman middle who's highly touted last name is karai out of Hungary who they beat the University of Texas for so they got some pretty good talent coming in and they'll probably have to get another Center as well all right so let's take a look at the bracket and there you see about things match up in the regional semifinal Baylor and Purdue that should be a pretty good matchup and Kentucky was a Washington there you see Hawaii and the per Aska and Wisconsin and Texas A&M this is the right side of the bracket Utah who went into the Fieldhouse in Provo tonight and swept BYU they'll play Stanford Cincinnati we mentioned the only oven on fire five school going up against Penn State Minnesota Florida that's a traditional power of those two schools and Louisville taking on the University of Texas so some interesting matchups but you know it's still alive Stanford who won the national title last year Hawaii will face Nebraska on Friday two years ago Nebraska won the national championship and then last year they lost in the national title game to Texas so you know I still consider Hawaii win the Blue Bloods but when you look at Nebraska their true blue blood of women's volleyball but they are and and you got to think that they're the underdog but that might come to their advantage I think they're they have nothing to lose they're gonna go up their thing and no one's gonna really respect them or expect them to do well and I think it bodes well for the same I think they play better with that and I think for Hawaii you know they're just playing for not only themselves but they're playing for their school and they're playing for the state and I think they'll definitely feel that and tonight they're playing for kaleil back ciccolo happy birthday by the way assistant coach it says right there pretty good birthday present for Cleo Baxter that's right better when I know what other thing that I want to add is what I feel is special about this team is that you can't teach heart and this team has so much heart and so much fire but you it's very hard to teach that you can teach the culture you could teach the skills you can teach the starting lineups and where to serve and what to do but you can't teach heart and it seems the longer this season has went on the more heart this team has has gotten well it says we had can no can and game on and the question was can home I win at all they're one step closer only four more to go all right let's take a break we'll come back we wrap things up here from that Stan Sheriff Center of Hawaii advances to the Sweet sixteen welcome back to the Heineken postgame show well they see the final score so what he wins it in three over San Diego 25 23 21 21 highest season continues for the Toros it has come to a conclusion and we'll put up another number somewhere on that banner later on this season hopefully as they move on to the regional semi final beginning on Friday at Madison against the University of Nebraska for us this is our final broadcast of Rainbow Wahine volleyball for this year and you know we've we've watched Robyn grow as a coach and we have watched her program grow along with her and I think today was a big moment for where this program is heading back to well definitely I mean you can just see where they started and where they're at now and again I'll say it it's her first true recruiting class that that her squad has put together but I think each one of them has their own rules and you know kudos to all of them for contributing down to the sideline staffs and everybody here at the arena she's got so much support she's built this culture and you see her metamorphosizing herself as well you see her calming down a little bit more and not just being a little bit more subtle on the sidelines it's just really been great to watch her growth as well as the team's growth yeah there was at one point she told the team girls I need you to do one thing you got to calm down I've never I don't would say that in the first season at all but you know I think one of the other things that was really nice to see at the end of the match of the in-center court all the coaching staff were hugging each other something with tears in their eyes as a players were getting lays by the ante I think it showed the love and and it was just sort of this eye of relief like we kind of did it we're here now they were they're comfortable and they know their roles and they know what it takes to be here and again they're brought this program back to where it started from and this is this program has always been sort of the marquee program for this university and this institution with it comes so much tradition and in so much history and I think that's the what they really wanted to do was continue that and bring them back and tonight by advancing to the sweet 16 they certainly did that well let's hope we don't see them back home until sometime later this month as they oh I'm sure the ticker tape parade down downtown Honolulu yeah that would be awesome we'll be there for that the three of us so we won't be back until next month when men's volleyball season begins by the way old preseason number one team gonna be on the Contra Jenny plug happy holidays guys and I'll do it for us here this evening as Hawaii wins it in three over USD special thanks as always da respective sports is for Ryan for Lisa I'm stunned till next time we be Jehovah and good evenings understand Sheriff Center in [Applause] [Music]
