Frederik is popular among the general Danish population. That of course rubbed of on Mary. Having a bunch of what appears to be wellbehaved kids and a likeable personality also helps.
Frederik has a comedic sense well suited to the Danish mind set. Notice his response at 22.30 when asked how big is the baby.

I heard that the Danish Royal family walks around in Copenhagen and just says hello to people sometimes. They seem very down to earth but also aware of their responsibilities and their duty to their country.
I guess we have royals in Australia (the Brits) but they're not reeeeaaally ours. That's sort of why I love Mary so much.
And to pick up a whole new language in your 30's is pretty impressive! She also looks like a great mum.
And Frederik is just hot. Mary is living the dream.
