greetings on the factors my name is Sam and today we're gonna be learning all about one of the greatest villains ever conceived by the human psyche Peppa Pig the most horrifying kacct oh no wait this is the wrong script sorry hold on oh okay the Joker the most terrifying character ever to grace the pages of a comic book I don't know if it's the bleached white face the disturbing grin or simply his undying pursuit of chaos and anarchy but something about this Joker fella really gives me the heebie-jeebies can't quite put my finger on it anyways how exactly did Joe could get his trademark white skin red lips and green hair what has a Joker done more than any other DC character and when will Batman and Joker finally just get a room already 203 those questions gonna be answered so lock your doors close your windows and definitely don't try to blow up a boat filled with convicts as we spiral deliriously through 101 fact about the Joker number one the Joker is a mercifully fictional supervillain created by Bill Finger Bob Kane and Gary Robinson who first appeared in the debut issue of the comic book Batman released on the 25th of April 1940 by DC Comics nice easy intro fact for you there just in case you lived through 2008 without ever turning on a TV going to the cinema or talking to any other living person number two awkwardly credits for the creation of the Joker is heavily disputed finger Kane and Robinson all agree that finger produced an image of actor Conrad Veidt sporting an unsettling grin Wallen character as grin plane in the 1928 film the man who laughs as a source of inspiration and they also agree that Robertson grated a concept sketch of the Joker as a playing card you with me so far number three however Kane claimed that teen finger conceived with the character first and that Robinson created his sketch after seeing the image of veidt's Robinson on the other hand claims that the image of Veidt was only brought up after seeing his sketch the details of this dispute get even more complicated and contrived the more you look into it and by 2011 all three of the men involved had died leaving the dispute unresolved number 4 regardless of who was actually most responsible for creating the character the Joker debuted in Batman number 1 as the eponymous characters first villain which was about a year after Batman's own debut in Detective Comics number 27 in May of 1939 the dawn of the Golden Age of comics the Joker initially appeared as a Mersenne a serial killer with an unsettling grin who killed using a potent toxin known as Joker venom which contorted the faces of his victims into grotesque and ghoulish grins number 5 you may be surprised to learn that the Joker was originally going to be killed off almost immediately after his first appearance out of concern that recurring villains would make Batman appear incompetent can't have the billionaire looking bad can we number 6 luckily the Joker's premature parish mint which hilariously had the character accidentally stabbed himself in the chest during a scuffle with Batman what subverted by then editor Whitney Ellsworth who apparently liked The Joker enough to order an extra panel of the comic in which an ambulance driver exclaims that the villain somehow survived his embarassing self shanking number 7 unlike many other comic book superheroes and supervillains the Joker possesses no superhuman abilities and instead relies entirely on his street smarts powers of manipulation and expertise in chemical engineering to get the upper hand The Joker manufactures a variety of highly stylized theatrical and dare I say comedic weapons including razor tips playing cards overpowered exploding cigars and acid sprang lapel flowers classy number 8 while the Joker is almost universally associated with insanity chiefly due to his love of murdering people in the campus manner possible it's been suggested that the killer clown is actually the exact opposite of crazy Scottish comic book writer Grant Morrison has proposed that the Joker actually possesses super sanity in that he understands the world around him on a level beyond the comprehension of everyone else this explains his anarchic tendencies and wholesale disregard for human life as well as his avant-garde approach to fashion which as we all know is about self-expression and taking risks number 9 in 1951 finger wrote an origin story with the Joker that appeared in Detective Comics number 168 in which it was revealed that he was a mere lab worker until he decided still 1 million dollars in order to retire in pursuit of his career ambitions the humble lab tech became the criminal mastermind Red Hood again alluding to the guy's apparent love of bold fashion choices number 10 however aren't being confronted while attempting to see from the monic playing card company he evaded capture by jumping into a vat of chemical waste which I'm sure seemed like a good idea at the time the chemical concoction into which the Joker plunged himself breached his skin white and dyed his head and lips bright red and the rest is the range criminal mastermind history number 11 while the Joker was initially characterized as a murderous psychopath who killed for the sheer thrill of it by the mid-50s public opinion had turned against comic books the content of which had been blamed as the cause of various perceived social ills including juvenile delinquency violence and somehow homosexuality okay despite the fact that we now know gay people are created not by comic books but by RuPaul the immortal and everlasting in 1954 the comics code Authority was established to clean up comics and the Joker was softened into a more mischievous prankster than homicidal lunatic number 12 as a result of the characters demotion to mere goofy tricks though with a clown stick the Joker appeared less and less throughout the Silver Age of comics especially after 1964 when the Joker hater Julius Schwartz became the editor of Batman comics things were looking good for the old Joker who's running a Shinto clown themed miscreant had hobbled his best features specifically his love of murdering people purely for his own amusement I always like been a bad guy number 13 the year 1966 may represent a nadir for the character as it saw the publication of Batman number 186 in which readers were introduced to the Joker's original sidekick a disaffected circus worker and dwarf named gaggy with the Joker at his side gaggy helped carry out a number of serious crimes but was soon apprehended by Batman and Robin during a bungled heist good lord number 14 it wasn't until 1973 in the original Bronze Age of comics that writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neil Adams reinvent and reinvigorated the character returning him to his previous role as a psychotic killer with the Flair of the dramatic Adams also altered the Joker's appearance making him taller and lankier with a large chin 20 eyes his signature grin number 15 with the mid-70s came a period of experimentation of DC Comics and in 1975 the Joker made history as the first Batman villain to get his own standalone comic series simply titled the Joker whoa go Joker the only way is up number 16 hold your horses sound from the previous fact sadly you're naive celebrations are premature much like many things in your life still under the oppressive rule of the comics code Authority which required that all villains be apprehended at the end of each issue the scope of the Joker was significantly stifled and suppressed as a hope the series was canceled after only nine issues though on the bright side this has made the Joker particularly difficult to come by and today copies of the comics command high prices every cloud number 17 in 1988 legendary English comic book writer Alan Moore penned The Killing Joke a one-shot graphic novel which contained arguably the most widely accepted origin story for the Joker in Moore's version the Joker quits his job as an engineer at chemical plant in order to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian and only resorts to criminality when it turns out that he totally sucks at making me laugh hashtag relatable number 18 the Joker is later forced by the mob to assist them with a robbery immediately after finding out that his pregnant wife has been killed in a freak accident so to be fair the guy was already having a very bad day the robbery goes awry because of course it does and the Joker's face and hair are permanently stained after he falls into a vat of chemicals the double horror of his disfigurement and the loss of his family drives him insane and ultimately serves as the most widely accepted origin of the Joker as a terrifying maniac or villain number 19 the 1990s introduced a romantic interest with the Joker in the form of Harleen Quinzel also known as Harley Quinn the origin of Joker's insane innamorata was established in a 1999 graphic novel entitled the Batman adventures mad love in which Quinzel appears as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who falls madly in love with Joker eventually becoming his villainous sidekick number 20 T in the injustice gods among us here to series a spin-off of the injustice series of games Harley Quinn reveals the Black Canary that she has a four-year-old daughter named Lucy Quinn she also states that upon finding out that she was pregnant she went into hiding for a year not wanting the Joker to find out he was a father when she returned Quinn finds out that her beloved Joker didn't even know she was gone or could number 21 it's worth noting at this point that part of what makes the joke is such an unsettling character is that so little is known about his origins in fact at all the comics the Joker's true name and canonical background have never been revealed number 22 oh well sort of in the mainstream DC continuity the Joker's name is never mentioned but in the graphic novel Batman Gotham noir and the limited series Batman white nights The Joker's name has given us Jack Napier believed by some to be a play on jackanape a rare word originating in the Middle Ages meaning an impudent person or a mischievous child it's also the same name we used in a certain film about Batman that we'll get to in due course so don't worry your pretty little head about it okay okay number 23 still the Joker has a wide array of nicknames the Prince of chaos the Clown Prince of Crime the ace of knaves interestingly by the way the knave is another name for the Jack playing card a possible nod to Jack Napier number 24 the Joker has had a few choice moment too this time as Batman's most dedicated irritant in the late 80s DC published Batman a death in the family a four-part series which gave fans the ability to influence the story by calling in and voting at one point readers were asked to decide on whether Robin should live or die and not being a particularly popular character at the time the result did not lean in Robins favor as a result the story eventually saw Joker beat Robin to death of the crowbar I mean my god everyone number 25 at one point in the injustice gods among a series The Joker tricked Superman into thinking he's killed Lois Lane and the Man of Steel isn't best pleased natch unburdened by Batman's personal prohibition against killing Superman responds in a frankly on Superman way to the Joker's devilish trick by punching him through the chest yes through the chest this all happens right in front of Batman who is needless to say quite surprised number 26 in 1996 comic book fans were treated to a lovely crossover series entitled legends of the dark claw released by publishing imprint amalgam comics shared by DC and Marvel Comics in this series Batman and Wolverine are combined to make one hero called dark claw who faces off against another super villain combo named hyena a mixture of Joker and Wolverines perennial bete noire Sabretooth number 27 in 2011 DC published Geoff Johns critically acclaimed comic flashpoint series which features an altered DC Universe in which Barry Allen also known as the flash notices that things are all messed up for instance cyborg is the world's preeminent superhero which is predict coming who who could see that happening and instead of Bruce Wayne's parents being murdered in an alley Bruce himself is killed instead in response Bruce Wayne's father Thomas Wayne becomes Batman and Martha Wayne traumatized so profound by the death of her son suffered a mental breakdown adventurer Lee becomes the Joker what a twist number 28 on multiple occasions even the Joker's trademark insanity has been altered such as in the goin same storyline published in the mid 90s in which the Joker believes himself to a finally killed Batman with his foe finally gone the Joker's life loses all meaning and eventually his mind revert to a state of sanity he then has his facial features and hair recovered to a more natural tone and reenter society as of all things an accountant named Joseph Kerr luckily Batman eventually turns out not to be dead which is all that mr. Joker say where they did needs to snap back into his old unhinged self number 29 there was also the time when Martian Manhunter used a telepathic abilities to reorder the Joker's mind causing a momentary period of sanity in which the eight of news becomes aware of all the terrible things he's done his excursion to the land of compos mentis does not last long though because as soon as Martian Manhunter stops fiddling with the Joker's mind he regresses back to his usual state almost immediately number thirty as one of the most iconic characters in popular culture the Joker has on several occasions been listed among the greatest comic book villains of all time and the best fictional characters ever conceived in 2006 the Joker was ranked number one on Wizard Magazine's 100 greatest villains of all time list and in 2009 was ranked number 2 on IGN's Top 100 comic book villains list beaten only by the metal manipulating mutant Magneto number 31 if the Joker's theatrics have given you a sympathetic impression of the crazed clown take a second to remember that he's still a world-class psychopathic murderer while certain DC villains have decimated entire cities so far / Joker has racked up 460 on panel kills murdering men women and children often in horrifyingly imaginative ways this gives the joke at the highest body count of any DC characters in terms of individual acts of killing number 32 the Joker's popularity has seen his image appear on a variety of merchandise such as clothing posters and collectible items however the Joker is actually so well loved by comic-book fans that the character has also served as the inspiration for several Joker themed roller coasters all over the world such as Joker's jinks roller coaster in Six Flags in Maryland and the Joker coaster at the sixth flight parks in California and Mexico City the Joker is also featured on Batman event to the ride which is a motion simulator ride Warner Brothers amusement parks in Australia the new roof Germany and Spain number 33 along with his batty adversary the Joker has also made it to the realm of television dancing in 1966 for the TV series Batman the series featured the suave Latino movie star Cesar Romero as the Joker who point-blank refused to shave his beloved moustache for the part consequently Romero's signature stash can be easily seen under the clown white makeup number 34 Romero's characteristic howling Joker laughs came about shortly after he was cast while waiting for a meeting with producers discuss the role in the show apparently Romero happened to see some concept art of the Joker's costuming and finding it completely absurd broke into a fit of hysterical laughter adieu to overheard his impassioned mirth and explained to Romero that's it that's your Joker laughs number 35 as I'm sure many Joker fans watching this will know the actor who's played the Joker for the longest period of time and the best is in fact Mark Hamill who is far more widely known is the actor portrayed Luke Skywalker in the iconic Star Wars series despite being most well known for his on-screen role of Skywalker Hamill has since built himself a successful career as a voice actor and has been providing his delightfully raspy take on the Joker in various animated TV shows movies and video games for well over 25 years number 36 Hamill credits his successful audition for the role of the Joker to the fact that he was entirely unconvinced that anyone would cast Luke Skywalker as the Joker as a result Hamill felt far less pressure going into the audition and ended up nailing it anyways number 37 indeed Hamill recalls the casting in voice director Andrea Romano told him that he was hired to play The Joker based on his exquisitely delivered laughter which he developed while starring in a Broadway production of Amadeus incidentally Hamill lost the role of Amadeus when it was being adapted to the 1984 movie of the same name when a studio exec declared I don't want Luke Skywalker in this film clearly Hamill's worries about being rejected based on his most famous role are not unfounded number 38 though Hamill has accumulated an impressive array of Joker credits in various animated roles he's also played the Joker in live-action to kinder the Joker appeared in two episodes of the short-lived 2002 birds-of-prey TV series me neither and though he was physically betrayed by actor Roger stone Baker the characters dialogue was provided by mark hamil I mean that sounds too confusing just hub mark hamill number 39 the Joker once appeared alongside the world's most famous team of meddling kids in their bizarrely talkative dog in an episode of the new scooby-doo movies which aired for a little over a year between 1972 in 1973 in the episode entitled the Caped Crusader caper the gang team up with Batman and Robin to stop the Joker and the penguin who have kidnapped the absent-minded professor flaky in order to steal his newly invented flying suits yep those two things are the same universe now and that's canon that's the world we're living in baby number 40 The Joker appeared on the big screen for the first time in Tim Burton's generally well-liked 1989 film Batman in which the character was famously portrayed by Jack Nicholson interestingly Nicholson initially hesitated to accept the role after which the studio offered it to the late great comedian Robin Williams who accepted this begs the question why does Jack Nicholson play the Joker in the film and not Robin Williams well number 41 after ostensibly giving the part to Williams the film's producers then approached Nicholson again and told him that Williams would play the Joker if he didn't at which point Nickerson accepted the role and Williams was fired naturally Williams resented being used as a bargaining chip by the studio and not only refused to play the Riddler in the film's 1995 sequel Batman Forever but also refused to be involved with any Warner Brothers production until he received an apology damn right Robin Williams remaining over eyes apparently though Tim Burton wanted neither Nicholson nor Williams as his Joker and originally wanted to cast American actor Brad Dourif in the role not me neither before being overruled by the studio number 43 in fact it seems as though no one agreed who they wanted to star at the Joker as one of the film's screenwriters originally wanted Willem Dafoe to appear stating we all thought well Willem Dafoe just looks a bit like the Joker he doesn't he looks like a scientist in fact he's something of a scientist himself number 44 indeed a slew of other well-known actors were considered for the role before the studio manager commits Nicholson to take it by dangling Robin Williams in front of him we hasten to add I mean who does that these actors included the likes of Tim Curry Jeff Goldblum Donald Sutherland John Lithgow Robert De Niro Alan Rickman Ray Liotta John Malkovich even the famed clown rock megastar David Bowie I mean all of those would have been good shouts number 45 regardless Nicholson ultimately nabbed himself the role and was generally well received for his creepy portrayal of the Joker Nicholson worked very closely with Burton to construct their version of the character and interestingly enough Nicholson actually had a final say over how the Joker's makeup would be realized for the film Nicholson even had approval over who would be hired as the film's makeup designer and did not sign his contract until his permission was granted Robin Williams would have been less work just saying number 46 speaking of contracts Nick wasn't agreement to star in the film came with certain stipulations that gave him large amounts of control of the production schedule his contract specified that he would be entitled to a set number of hours of each day and also granted him the right to attend home games of his beloved Los Angeles Lakers throughout production number 47 not only that Nicholson also managed to negotiate the hell out of his contract with regards to payment money money money at the time Nicholson's going right for a movie was ten million dollars but with the budget of only thirty five million dollars for the you know entire film Warner Brothers couldn't afford to blow almost a third of their money on a single actor so a deal was struck Nicholson agreed to do the film for only six million dollars but in exchange was granted a slice of the film's box office and merchandising earnings as well as the cost of any future Batman sequels and earnings - and you see where I'm going with this number 48 a bond released the movie was an immediate box-office hit and ultimately earned over 400 million dollars worldwide as a result while Nickerson took home a paltry salary of only six million dollars his earnings when the film's overall income backed him 60 million dollars a figure worth roughly double in today's money when adjusted for inflation not only that Nicholson is probably still receiving royalties to this very day number 49 incidentally Nicholson later stated that the Joker was what his favorite roles but it was number 50 after the filming had concluded Nicholson paid seventy thousand dollars to keep the clothes that had been crated for him to appear as the Joker in the movie this apparently included 25 shirts six suits and twelve hats all in various striking shades of purple orange and turquoise number 51 of course we can't possibly talk about cinematic portrayals of the Joker without spending some time in the presence Jarrid now I'm killing Heath Ledger's interpretation of the character which was met with universal acclaim upon the film's release this is perhaps all the more impressive considering the fact that when Ledger was cast many fans believed he was completely wrong for the role as such the production was inundated with criticism much of it homophobic in nature owing to ledges previous role in Brokeback Mountain oh the internet had a knee-jerk reaction to something and turned out to be completely wrong quelle surprise number 52 Ledger was only 28 when he tragically passed away on the 22nd of January 2008 several months before the film was released according to Variety Ledger was also the youngest actor to play the Joker number 53 in fact while we're on the subject Heath Ledger is the only choker actor not to be older than his Batman co-star as Bale is 5 years older than ledger number 54 as a result the version of the Joker that appears in The Dark Knight is significantly younger than those seen in previous TV and film app tations ledges Joker appears to be somewhere in his late 20s or early 30s while past Joker's are typically older than Batman somewhere in their mid 40s number 55 of course a bunch of other actors were also considered for the role before it eventually went to ledger including the likes of Paul Bettany Adrien Brody Sam Rockwell and Steve Carell even Robin Williams once again expressed his interest in the part but sadly sometimes just wanting something isn't enough number 56 costume designer Lindy hemming basic Joker's attire on a wide range of sources such as fashion icons like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen but also rock heroes like John Lydon Iggy Pop and Pete Doherty wouldn't describe Pete Doherty a hero anyway Hemmings aim was to adapt the Joker's usual look to represent legislation in order to give it a more younger trendy look number 57 rumor has it that Leger went to quite frankly unsettling depths to get into the role he said to have locked himself in a hotel room for over a month to feel isolated enough with zone thoughts to get into the Joker's mindset this apparently went so far it started affecting his relationship with his then partner Michelle Williams all I know is that I feel sorry for the maid at that hotel number 58 legend was also said to have written a diary while in said hotel room that contained all sorts of horrifying tragedies sad stories and other jacory things like pictures of the bad boy himself from the comics Leger kept the diary with him on set at all times just in case you needed to dip into it number 59 while researching the part of the Joker ledger apparently true significant inspiration from Stanley Kubrick celebrated film a Clockwork Orange particularly Malcom McDowel performance st twisted sociopath Alex in fact an image of Alex appears in ledges Joker diary number 60 ledger was not only a great actor but also a good makeup a rub bra he actually came up with the Joker's makeup himself for this movie throwing it together with bits and pieces from a drugstore the makeup team then adapted this and would reproduce it every day eventually back in themselves an Oscar nom for it number 61 and that makeup worked out huh I mean look at him even the steel east of cool cockney actors would be put off by it in fact it's funny I should say that because when Leger first appeared on set fully made up as the Joker the effect was so disturbing and frightening that Michael Caine who plays Bruce Wayne's faithful Butler Alfred was rendered completely speechless and forgot his lines number 62 Leger was even sure to keep some of the face makeup on his hands which can be seen in certain shots in the film this was done subtly to show that the Joker does his own makeup which is a delightful little detail to know about a murderous murderer murder man number 63 Heath Ledger also spent several months working with a vocal coach to affect the terrifying sound and cadence of his Joker's voice it clearly paid off though because it sadly inspired legions of mediocre imitations following the film's release Nintendo 64 as if the character wasn't chilling enough Fletcher even used ventriloquist dummies as inspiration for the Joker's unsettling sarcastic tone although when tricks dummies aren't they known not to actually - anyway moving on number 65 terrifyingly Heath legislating character the entire time he was on set even when the cameras weren't rolling he's what I mean correct person would say uh-oh for some reason this rumor about legend method in the health of his acting just won't die despite the fact it's been refuted on several occasions Ledger was able to deliver his incredible performance while utilizing only regular acting which if anything makes ledger even more of a Ledge number 66 in fact he made things so realistic that in the famous interrogation scene at least according to Christian Bale in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Ledger violently threw himself into the table and wall and other furniture to make things look more Verte I should add though that Bale refused to her to seem partner it was all ledger lawsuit avoided number 67 one thing you'll notice about legislator is that he licks his lips an awful lot at the time this is a lovely bit of creepy character work ops but it was also done for practical reasons it was to try and stop the prosthetic scars coming off his face when the glue didn't work number 68 at the beginning of the movie there's a heist in which everyone is wearing clownish masks well the one Joker was wearing looks very similar to one that sees Romero's Joker donned in the 1960s Batman season 1 episode 5 the Joker is wild number 69 another nice creepy little reference but yes I guess it's during the chase scene if you look very closely at the bullet holes in the windshield of the semi you'll notice that they sort of resemble a smiley face what's it's a reference to well being happy which clowns are meant to do I guess I shouldn't have said reference earlier number 7 day when Joker gets all roleplay and slips into his nurse outfit the nametag says Matilda now Matilda is actually the name of ledges daughter so it's a reference to her or the book series nurse Matilda probably his daughter though number 71 when Joe got rudely interrupts Bruce Wayne's penthouse party I mean what bad manners an older man stands up to him saying to which the dagger responds by shoving a knife in his mouth nice well that man is senator Patrick Lee a representative of the state of Vermont he's apparently a supermassive Batman fan and has appeared in a lot of bat media over the years he's sort of like bats his Stanley except he didn't make him number seventy two had no point in the film during any face-to-face confrontation between Batman and the Joker do the pair refer to each other by name as cold as ice cold number 73 the nine minute sweet compose for the Joker is based on two notes D and C constituting a very subtle and sneaky nod to DC Comics the only people who had any chance of noticing this during the film are people with perfect pitch so talk about niche number 74 as we all know the Thekla schnapps in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aren't altogether willing to give awards to films in certain genres and superhero films are certainly one of them despite this the Dark Knight was nominated for eight Academy Awards the most nomination of any superhero film ever number 75 from those eight nominations the Dark Knight ultimately bagged itself two wins one of which was a posthumous award for Heath Ledger winning the Best Supporting Actor to this day The Dark Knight is the only movie of the superhero genre to ever receive an Academy Award in an acting category number 76 the next big movie to feature the Joker was the 2016 film a Suicide Squad which was not as good as the Dark Knight and that's being nice does that count as a fact probably not anyway the Joker in Suicide Squad was portrayed by rockstar and previous Oscar winner Jared Leto but he actually wasn't the first factor considered for the role that was actually Ryan Gosling who reportedly turned it down because he was not prepared to sign on for a multi picture deal number 77 other actors consider for Joker this time include South African actor Sharlto Copley and former doctor Matt Smith bullet dodged guys number 78 regardless Jared Leto got the part of the Joker in the end bringing his own personal interpretation to the role letter apparently took inspiration from the influential Batman comic Arkham Asylum a series house in serious earth widely considered to be one of the best Batman graphic novels and my oh my look at it it's disturbing as hell number 79 letter also stated you listen to 1920s gospel music and read books about shaman's to get into the character I don't know about you but when I saw the film I felt that gospel music and shaman's really came through in his performance number 80 one of the producers on Suicide Squad Charles Roven stated that much of the Joker's wardrobe was inspired by Mexican cartels I know when I'm getting dressed up one of my main reference points are notoriously violent drug runners so yeah I get it number 81 chip above his role in Suicide Squad Jared Leto reportedly watched hours of real crime footage on YouTube apparently in order to better understand how criminals can be calm methodical and deliberate while committing acts of violence number 82 in order to deliver a more thrilling and realistic performance as a legit psychopath let also spent hours meeting with longtime tenets of a psych ward specifically people who had committed horrendous crimes and had been institutionalized for great periods of time number 83 it's worth noting by the way that poor sue was squad warner brothers hide a therapist and life coach to be on set during filming to assist a cast during the making of the film apparently in order to stop the actors from sinking too far mentally in the pursuit of their dark and tortured performances okie-dokie number 84 unlike cesar romero Leto was far less devoted to the hair on his face and apparently shaved off his eyebrows for his role in Suicide Squad this was apparently done in order to make it more difficult to read his emotions creating a more unsettling character number 85 unlike Leger Leto did indeed stain character while on set which apparently really creeped out his co-stars Scott Eastwood who and I mean how could you forget played lieutenant GQ Edwards in the film commented the letters behavior sometimes frightened him sounds like a hostile work environment to me go talk to HR number 86 indeed Will Smith even remarked that even though he acted alongside Leto for six months he never actually met Jared Leto what a great impression to make any co-stars but hey Andy see didn't do anything weirder than that right number 87 wrong Leto submersion into the Joker character had him engaging in all manner of deviant behavior manifesting the some sort of disturbing onset bizarro Santa Claus letter apparently sent out a range of Joker inspired gifts to other members of the cast and crew and the details of his psychopathic generosity is sure to raise a few unshaven eyebrows margot robbie received a love letter and a live rat Will Smith got a number of bullets and Adewale akinnuoye-agbaje was sent a soiled Playboy magazine number 88 the whole crew was treated to a slew of other troubling and I can only assume unwanted gifts in the form of a dead pig as well as a variety of other objects in an adult nature that we can't mention here on YouTube because we found Jesus and may punish you for saying naughty words number 89 in order to perfect his Joker laugh letter apparently tried out a variety of different laughs in public while in New York City in Toronto to see which ones made people the most uncomfortable dammit Leto just let people get to work we're all very tired number 90 of course the latest development in the ongoing legacy of the Joker involves the upcoming 2019 American psychological thriller film simply entitled Joker the film which was directed by Todd Phillips and written by Phillips and Scott Silva will serve as an origin story of the character and sarsti somewhat enigmatic actor Joaquin Phoenix in the title role number 91 prior to the announcement the Phoenix would be appearing the film's title roll numerous rumors swirled through Hollywood regarding who else might have been considered for the part big names like Leo dekapan Bill scar Scott were rumored to be playing the Joker I mean surely that's not fair bill Scott guards have already got the big clown role but Phillips later projected these reports saying that we wrote the movie for Joaquin number 92 The Joker's named in this film is Arthur Fleck as this name can be shortened to a flick or a flick some have suggested that the Joker's real name in this film could be a subtle and perhaps even slightly mocking nod to burn a flick who previously played the Batman but we don't really want to talk about that so let's move on number 93 The Joker's make up in this film is markedly similar to that of John Wayne Gacy a notorious serial killer who regularly performs for children while dressed as Pogo the clown so that's fun number 94 the film makers of Joker sight Alan Moore's comics The Killing Joke is a source of inspiration indeed the film appears to follow significant narrative details present in the comic such as the Joker's initial desire to be a stand-up comedian number 95 other sources of inspiration that were used to construct the film include various Martin Scorsese films such as taxi driver Raging Bull and the King of Comedy that last one perhaps the most Scorsese was initially a producer on the film but was later forced to leave the project due to other obligations number 96 Phillips also cites the 1928 silent film the man who laughs there's another big crate of stimulus for the film which as I'm sure you'll remember was one of the principal inspirations for the original Joker character all those years ago and all those facts ago number 97 the release of Joker constitutes the first theatrical DC Comics film to be rated R since Watchmen which was released ten years earlier in 2009 so we're gonna wait another 10 years for another one hopefully in r-rated Green Lantern number 98 there's a joke that Fleck tells while on stage in the film's trailer which goes as follows when I was a little boy and told people I was going to be a comedian everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now if you think you might have heard that before this is a joke almost identical to one famously told by the late British comedian Bob Monkhouse number 99 in order to keep the nature of the film under wraps the production used the fake working title Romeo during the film yeah we're not getting a romantic vibe from the trailer here unless the jokerz Romeo and Juliet is murder and chaos number a hundred when the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival it was apparently met with an eight-minute standing ovation sorry guys I don't care how good the film is as soon as those good its roll I'm out the door to beat the rough to the box IBS baby number a hundred and one Phoenix has revealed that he based his personal interpretation of the Joker laughs on videos of people suffering from pathological laughter which the Joker in this film suffers from creepy it's gonna be a good Joker I can feel it anyway that was 101 facts about the Clown Prince of Crime the Joker which is your favorite Joker is he the best super villain of
