[Music] alright guys what's going on so much needed much overdue follow up with Jim Kowalewski he's back from Maine he's crushing it here in the Market Garden said he's just starting to kind of pick up over there you know he's having some great week sales have been pretty decent I want to show you guys what he's growing where he's taking it and hopefully we don't get any sirens here in the background today and you know I had a ton of comments on that last video with Jim about the sirens and the police and this and that like Jim is like literally right next to the TV station that red roof you see is like a building where they keep vehicles you know there's 100 cop cars over there in that parking lot there's a police station right here so you know if there's an emergency this is where they you know turn on their sirens and fly Adam so you know neither Jim or I notice those sirens in that last video if I would have I probably would have stopped and we shot that for y'all so sorry about that I've had hundreds about those sirens I'll be a little bit more careful here in the future who cares - coming up carrots you said yep how old is this bed Jim um let me think these are probably ten days old the carrot and then this look planted probably two weeks ago two weeks out yeah so it'll be a shift from what we're gonna see over there so over here probably in two weeks out this will be going to tasty Tuesday this is two weeks planting two weeks ago okay I'll block okay okay the holiday armadillo just went down the path oh he was just in here this morning yeah eating all your worms yeah but the more worms in the past that telling me I might want to use those yeah I'm getting willed already ready for the health food store okay nice how many days a week are you doing to those guys now Sunday them there some weeks three times really yeah they're just can't keep it stopped I wonder if he's been in the ground gym no let's look at look at the tag tag I'd say probably 25 days maybe even because they're supposed to be 21 and these sell really well for them but she was Cindy brought him some radishes just a regular kind and they didn't sell so I don't know they like the print French breakfast yeah I guess there's a French name for this diva ID have a gun or something but it's French breakfast it's the easy way around they're so red now you're at tasty Tuesdays yesterday what do you do if you had anything left actually there do you take that too right I did but I was expecting the night harvested over harvested so I could have stuff for rights but then tasty food they wake me out all they had was arugula really left for them really yeah I mean that was I can't believe that people show up like that I mean that was probably my record day yesterday at tasty Tuesdays yeah by myself like last year I was gonna wither with help and yeah so yeah broke 700 yesterday 700 yesterday yeah I mean that's for a little market so this would be a good month yeah I'd say you know I'd say the next well yeah I'd say it's $1,000 a month or a couple months yeah $1,000 a week excuse me yeah and that's without too much value-added stuff from an area no well there's still been that a little the garlic is always good you know you sell a couple blueberries and then I got them can't blueberries the earcup great and then behind you is arugula that's been cut once this is coming back nice [Music] are you mixing that bunch up so it won't I'll just be the one where I do then yeah that's kale bouquet bouquet bouquet mustard I do behave and I try to plant so that there's a variety you know in the row so you can pick it that way but I'm really trying to be more efficient I'll pick one of each variety or a bunch of each variety and then go put it into bouquets together on a table in there any blocks yeah cuz they had extra I didn't know what to do is I just want to haven't put minis in I didn't expect anything to happen but it did I'm sure folks are wondering how is your sweet potato harvest this year I'd say the best one ever best one ever yeah well you know there was a lot of uglies again but um I'd say conservatively 3,000 pound 3,000 pounds jeez yeah and by the only probably 25% of those were pretty but you know rice is selling uglies now they're taking up to oh yeah you can have the diversity here so that you know they're not just one block you know it's not all that efficient but you know it gives you those colors which is really cool and that's one of my focuses have a look beautiful a bit of anesthetic yeah yes I don't know there's probably ten different kinds of mustard here [Music] jimson when you got back in town this year you harvested sweet potatoes did you have a lot of tumeric at harvest yeah I probably filled I don't know probably 50 pounds 50 pounds yeah and I'm selling it slowly but mine wasn't anything compared to mark so I gotta figure that out and talk to him I think he's playing deep deep and watering and why yeah yeah but now I got you know I got the irrigation system here really yeah I mean there's irrigation that we've got blue flags wounds when you plug in the corner hole on there so I could run drip to them are you running it no I haven't got my out the other yeah okay so it needs a little retrofit yeah cuz I think the poor zone and you're still running off of that well yeah with a little bit of salt in it yeah and I think we have a card yeah it's doing so well from the salt yeah do you attribute that to it Wow but it had nothing else is faltering cut from it so this must be really low when you think about local food you know I'm throwing this with the new port richey compote and harvesting it and taking it three blocks away to the health food store you know that is a really tight circle you know it seems like a lot of people that are starting to do local they get well-known and they started expanding you know because like tide Mills going to Portland now so it's not so local anymore yeah not that that's bad but it's just quite different yeah there's that dazzling blue again too they're gorgeous and now we're on to the kale yep kale bouquets this is that rainbow laughs Renato so I think so Frank Martin bred both of these so he must have somehow got it to straighten out more supposedly one of them's got a cabbage background to it too really yeah and this is a traditional dinosaur and you know I always think to figure a bunch is what fiddle fills my hand nicely there's no weight to that or not the deer business or anything well my father never waited though I so I've never been able to grow beets either and that's gonna be a nice beat what do you mean like that salt water - they're in the same family so you think the salt waters helping the beets also the same family is the chard and the spinach I've never never will finish I'm gonna change all that well lately but it still grows before I couldn't get it to be anything petitions why acog that worked with somebody else can I mean I can hardly find futsal here you know and then I say oh there's I forgot the dream well you forgot the kaleswar over here yeah cuz I'd like to get five and these are gonna start getting shaded up by the Chinese broccoli that's that happy Ridge that's the best one to grow in Florida I'd say out of all this Bobby Brown happy rich happy rich kazuo's down here and it's just a knot is big are you already cut those oh that's ok so we wouldn't grow these you wanna you know put up a little teeny head like that Arcadia's now cut that really quick so then it goes sideways you want the Sun yeah if you let it it won't do good if you don't do that oh yeah we'll have fun but the idea would be to kind of take leaves if this one's kind of going over to shade out out so that basically just thinning yeah Benny so that inner planting works better that way how much watering you do in this time of year Jim like last year I was doing a lot this year hardly any or they watered maybe this whole area maybe eight times eight times since October yeah and we're into the third week of January nice if we look over at that new bed I did over there you could see where where I put a little bit of mulch and then I didn't watch anything - that ain't mulch yet it's nine-day difference on the moisture it's holding I mean it's amazingly different and I mean that's what we do spec but they actually see it again and again it's pretty cool hold on I forgot I get this this is a new one it's not very prolific but it's called purple kale and it's a tail it is purple that's a kale yeah wow that's pretty cool so that's the only one I added yeah so kill is just as popular as it always has been huh it comes and goes I don't know if the juicers are still buying it but I had a couple neighbors that she just went vegan she was buying she came late to the market and bought up pretty much everything I had left for kale and took a lot of arugula - Wow great yeah I can see definitely you know this community could support you know probably at least ten of people telling me what I'm doing we heard no more gems oh yeah [Music] what all of used is trailer for harvesting citrus citrus was the first thing I got it for and then I was bringing TV from the beach okay I haven't used he we much amazing today you know it stays forever so I think there is a use for but I've got some compost that's at least three years old I'm digging through it there's still leaves a whole leaves of on that seagrass really yeah that stuff doesn't break down huh no and so I'm thinking as a mulch that would be a really good thing because it doesn't disappear and it also remember when I did the testing Trading the seaweed for deep in my soul I flex yeah and I had zero germination and he we yeah so ever the malts that click repeal what do you think it's killing weeds yeah really well it stopped termination and then stay along a long time so it could be the new mulch of the future but then we just over hard with it like anything fibrous [Music] not a bad way to spend the morning not bad at all Jim I've only been reporting for two minutes and like we're almost there hurry up Wow [Music] [Music] Jim this is kind of living the dream isn't it I know huh yeah I don't think there's no kind of there well this is living yeah like this is your responsibility for the day to deliver some produce by bike and grow some more plus I get the next day so this is my guy this is local local like ultra low ultra local yeah fifty percent of your foods going within a mile of your house the other 50% goes just to the next county below us Wow seventy five percent really so you're moving that much more over in this local market I like it too this were all the magic ads yeah it's cold so you're not using the wall anymore no just everybody how you starting these so these are the mini blocks and then they'll actually go up to this one didn't germinate so probably tomorrow or the next day I'll start and I'll make the big blocks and then you just put that in there and push it down but these are actually black Jimmy made for me that you did tomatoes in because I'm not sure help soon I'm gonna be leaving it might be worth doing some shoulder season crops yeah I'm gonna try some tomatoes and just see what happens I self sold some tomatoes too because I've seen the best tomatoes I've ever had are the ones that show up wherever they feed sprout they see themselves yeah and so I do um try something you know just who knows I don't know something about moving am I making that food so now so when I mulch that I had a little leftover can you see that spot but it's got mulch on it I mean it looks a lot the same but it's raised okay see here it's just kind of dry right then you get deeper it's better but watch when you go underneath yeah it's just like really moist the difference and that's the new mulch II think that's retaining I think yeah [Music] now Jim you said you actually have somebody coming to get the moringa pods the moringa pods become drumsticks it's a doctor my ex-wife's mom's doctor and he's from India and he said once he saw that he's coming over like every Sunday and getting like a handful and he'll give me 20 bucks for him he says the best drumsticks he's ever had and even from the india let's go check it out Wow that's the one that he can um were using him for medicinal purposes no toxin it's all part of that they got three different dishes they use really yeah they move any he had a specific size he wanted which is a lot bigger than I thought so is he getting him at the green stage no he's getting them this might be just a little big what do you want yeah this would be like he this was perfect that's high I mean that thing's like I know but what they do again I guess what they do is cut it up and then when you put it in your dish and then the inside gets soft and then you you strip it out the inside out Wow you know like they do with artichokes yeah yeah so he was all fired up and the only thing you've ever been on the market so far on the merengue no I usually yeah you through the powders the powder that's right and I used to everyone someone I like now they're growing considering how cold it's been amazing but I'll take some leaves you know and just hang them in the stall I'm selling 50 bucks a bunch food and you've had frost you're a couple times right right but it's all you know in the old body areas yeah I mean this is exposed it's not supposed to handle it well again you know the frost you know it's just on the ground I don't know how that works but it up in the air that's good a lot colder yeah all right guys Jim Kowalewski crushing it here in the Market Garden this place is looking pretty epic right now don't forget like subscribe share check out my other videos with Jim they'll be in the description down below and most importantly town that dirt [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
