for 1971 AMC fully redesigned its Pony muscle lineup combining the javelin and AMX into one model gone was the two-seater version now the AMX was the topof the line package for their Javelin model as you probably know if you wanted to run with the big boys in the early '70s you needed a big engine so for the Javelin AMX AMC provided its biggest motor the 401 V8 this Mighty power plant produced 335 horsepower which was a respectable number however the sale started to decline although the 1971 Javelin AMX was one of the prettiest cars on the road in those days the last year for the legendary Jack Vin AMX was 1974 but despite the effort from AMC Engineers the power output was down by 20 horsepower to 235 horsepower from its optional 401 V8 engine even with the performance goodies sport suspension and manual transmission the 0 to 60 MPH times were just over 8 seconds that just isn't fast especially for a muscle car the javelin did enjoy some success on the Trans Am circuits but it didn't win many any street [Music] [Applause] races the 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 arrived at dealerships with five different trims making it more attractive to Consumers searching for options and upgrades to Pontiac muscle cars the 400 model was the top dog in the firebird lineup with power coming from the same V8 engine found in the GTO the Firebird 400 also came with a handling package that included an anti- roll bar bar and stiffer front and rear springs this car had the looks and performance to be one of the most fun and interesting muscle cars of its day if you love Q muscle cars please comment number [Music] [Applause] one back in the mid-60s AMC was famous for its lineup of economy cars and small sedans this was the time before the AMC Javelin and AMX entered the mainstream muscle car class however the company management wanted an exciting sporty car so they turned to their Marlin model as a result the Marlin was a cool looking midsize Fastback with a design that suggested it was fast and Powerful but the truth was that the car delivered only mediocre performance so for the 1967 model year AMC decided to introduce a 343 V8 version of the Marlin with 280 horsepower on tap although it wasn't much it was still enough to provide the Marlin with a decent performance and driving Dynamics today those 343 V8 powered Marlins are rare but there were even rarer options one consisted of a factory tuned 343 V8 engine providing 320 horsepower which gave the Marlin some real power it was unclear how many of those special order cars they made but today people have forgotten about them and they are impossible to find if you love muscle cars please comment number two nice the car that eventually went on to movie Glory is the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am this car was one of the stars of Smokey and the Bandit and eventually inspired the Bandit add-on package featuring gold trim a gold steering wheel and a gold accented dashboard this 1977 Trans Am also came with t-tops which was a desired feature of the time with removable roof parts that made this muscle car look cooler than it was was although the engine output was only 200 horsepower this was one of the most impressive Pontiac muscle cars of the day the look and popularity of this car made it a top seller in the late 1970s the main difference between the 1968 AMC Javelin and AMC AMX was that the MX was a two-seater model interestingly it was the only two-seater on the US car market other than the Corvette with a shorter wheelbase 390 V8 engine with 360 horsepower lots of goast options and a reasonable price the AMC AMX was a capable muscle car the javelin proved to be a Sal success but the AMX was tough to sell people wanted more room in their muscle cars so a two-seater AMX was rather obsolete it lasted on the market for 2 years but although it was successful in many drag racing championships the AMX is a forgotten obscure muscle car the GTO Judge was the Pinnacle of muscle car lore in the late 1960s the race was on to continually build better faster and stronger muscle cars Pontiac was competing with Ford and Chevrolet for Supremacy in the muscle car world the GTO Judge wore the judge decals making it the authority at the drag strip although the GTO Judge couldn't stop the decline in sales it became one of the most enticing and sought after Pontiac muscle cars in history the Rambler was an economy model with no performance options but the light body and somebody in AMC thought it would be a good idea to put a big engine in it and create a proper Factory hot rod this cool looking and rare AMC was built in cooperation with transmission manufacturer Hurst it was basically a budget Rambler model but with a powerful 390 engine and lots of Go Fast options from Hurst since it was light and small it was fast and eye-catching because it was painted only in the white red and blue color scheme AMC made only around 1,500 of these great cars in 1969 after GM ban racing its cars in Motorsports events in 1963 the 1964 Pontiac GTO became the greatest high performance achievement of this brand the GTO was initially an upgraded version of the Pontiac L man but it would soon go on to be one of the most sought-after Pontiac muscle cars in history the 196 4 GTO is widely considered the first American muscle car packing a serious punch from the massive V8 engine the tri power carburetor and big block made for racetrack performance levels in a car that spent all of its time on American streets this car began some of the fiercest battles in the muscle car [Music] [Applause] era the GTX name is often associated with Plymouth but even Dodge had a GTX V8 model that was manufactured by Chrysler fever Argentina sa and was sold in Argentina under the Dodge name plate the production of the GTX V8 lasted from 1970 to 1979 initially the GTX came with a 3.7 L slant 6 engine but later the option of choosing a 5.2 L LA V8 engine was made available paired with a four-speed manual transmission the GTX V8 is also one of the few muscle cars that were were manufactured in Argentina this muscle car also was a beast on the tracks with its powerful engine coupled with an aerodynamic design the GTX V8 W8 tesmo carera championships which is a testament to how fast this muscle car actually is the unfortunate demise of the pon AC brand meant the end of the G8 and its GXP variant this short-lived model was based on the Holden Commodore from Australia and it shared a platform with the Chevy 454ss sedan that would live on for a few more years the 2008 Pontiac G8 GXP was more than just a great Pontiac muscle car but an incredible sleeper in the market this powerful rear wheeel drive sedan could carry five passengers comfortably to three digigit speeds without blinking an eye the strong sales in 2009 couldn't save the brand or this Pontiac muscle car from Extinction released in 1974 by the Australian car manufacturer Holden a subsidiary of General Motors the HX Sandman was an effort by Holden to take advantage of Australia's surfing culture and it was quite a success the HX Sandman was fitted with one 4.2 L V8 engine along with a four-speed manual transmission capable of generating an admirable 160 horsepower the Holden Sandman was in production from 74 to 80 and was sold as a Sport coupe utility car the HX was released in 76 to meet the low emission requirements as stated by federal law the HX Sandman quickly became quite popular among the younger crowd and was commonly referred to as shag and wagons and the production of the Holden Sandman ceased in 1980 while the 1967 Pontiac executive may not be a very famous vintage American car it does offer a great package for anyone looking for a powerful and bold muscle car just like most of the full-size muscle cars of its time the 67 Executive also offered a massive Road presence and elegant cabin along with a raw Driving Experience and mighty engine under the hood the 1967 poniac executive was offered with two engine options the 428 cubic in displacement and the 455 cubic in displacement V8 both these engines were offered with an optional four-speed manual gearbox and Hurst shifter it is also worth noting the fact that the the 1967 Pontiac executive was offered in a number of body styles including Coupe sedan and station wagon yet another Holden Car on the list the Holden Monero was first released in 1968 and is one of the coolest Australian muscle cars ever built the 197 2 Monero marks the beginning of the second generation and the 1972 Holden Monero GTS came equipped with a 5.0 L V8 engine capable of generating anywhere between 185 to 240 horsepower while the GTS 350 trim came with a 5.7 L V8 engine capable of generating 275 horsepower additionally depending on the trim you chose you had the option of choosing one of three transmission options three-speed triatic automatic 3-speed th350 automatic four-speed manual the 1972 Monero GTS dawned sharp exteriors and was offered as a rear wheeel drive AMC wanted to get into the muscle car game so for 1968 they prepared two interesting models one was the javelin and the other was the AMX those two models shared drivetrains and engines the javelin was modern looking and was a four seat two-door muscle Pony car ready to fight the Mustang and Camaro it came with a long list of optional extras and featured several V8 engines but the top engine configuration was the 3958 producing 310 horsepower power which had respectable performance in fact it was the first AMC model that got some street cred from muscle car enthusiasts this one is an interesting early AMC muscle car that was born by chance squeezing a 320 7 V8 engine from a Nash Ambassador into the small compact and light Rambler body created one seriously fast yet unassuming muscle machine the 327 V8 delivered 255 horsepower which wasn't that much but in the small Rambler body it was enough for a 0 to 60 MPH time of just 7 Seconds to make things even more interesting only the expensive fuel injected Chevrolet Corvette could beat the small rambl in 1957 however the powerful engine option raised the price of an affordable Rambler so only a few buyers were ready to pay extra for the privilege of outrunning anything else on the road as a result they only Built 1,500 of [Applause] them in a desperate attempt to draw the performance or oriented crowd AMC introduced the Pacer X it was a highperformance version of their legendary compact car they equipped it with the VM package for 1979 the Pacer X featured a 4.6 L straight 6 engine with a raised compression ratio and more power the output was around 150 horsepower despite the fact it sounds funny today this was a serious performing car by late 7s standards of course with the added power AMC provided their customers with a special appearance package to make the X Stand Out from regular Pacers the 1973 piaac Grand Prix made its debut in the American Market as a full-size muscle car and was offered with large dimensions and a bold styling for buyers looking to purchase a car with strong Road presence and a comfortable cabin while the design of the 73 Pontiac Grand Prix was not appreciated by all the car did find enough buyers for its strong and powerful package the 1973 Pontiac Grand Prix was offered with three engine options 350 400 and 455 a heavy body and limited power however made the 73 Grand Prix less involving to drive and took a direct toll on the overall performance of the muscle car despite this the 197 73 Pontiac Grand Prix offers a lot of features for buyers looking for something exclusive and [Music] retro the modest success of the 1969 amcc Rambler encouraged the company to produce another special one-year only muscle car in the form of the rebel machine AMC presented the machine in 1970 with the same mechanics but this time they gave it more power at 345 horsepower and performance oriented options it had a cool name and a patriotic color scheme also it had a Ram air induction hood with a zero to 60 time of fewer than 6 seconds and all that made it a reasonable choice for any Street racer this is by far one of the rarest muscle cars that never sold in the US the Capri piranha was first released in 1969 by Ford with a 3.0 L SX 56 engine and there were less than 20 units made of the same the following Year's model came with an upgraded 5.0 L Windsor 58 engine and came with two transmission options a three-speed C4 automatic transmission and a four-speed Ford top loader transmission the Capri piranha was sold in South Africa and the base price for the same was around 4,450 Rand furthermore it boasted a top speed of nearly 141 mph and could reach 62 mph in 7 Seconds the piranha was officially available with one of two exterior color options Peri Peri red and bright yellow and totally there were fewer than 500 units of the Ford Capri piranha made the production of the piranha lasted till [Music] 1973 AMC was active in the National Hot Rod Association drag racing Championship but they needed a proper car for the super stock class so the company produced the AMX 390ss they built this car in cooperation with Hurst a famous mod company from the era it featured lots of modifications in the biggest AMC engine the 390 V8 with 340 horsepower the horsepower was not as much as other muscle cars of the period but the AMX SS 390 was light and compact making it brutally fast AMC only made 52 of them however most most of those were red white and blue machines that went to drag strips where they beat much more powerful cars with ease AMC based The Hornet on a regular economy car but they equipped it with a better suspension and sharper steering they added a graphics package and a 360 V8 to transform this hot Hornet from an ordinary compact into a proper muscle car the power was not that big at 245 horsepower but in a lightweight body those horses could really make the Hornet fly the rest of the muscle car offerings in 1971 all had problems with their big size and weight as well as engines that didn't make power anymore but the Hornet 360 was one of the fastest cars on sale unfortunately the buyers didn't understand the Forward Thinking of AMC so they sold less than 800 Hornets in 1971 that made them quite rare obscure muscle cars in an era when bigger was always better the Hornet 360 was unusual for its compact size and strong engine sadly people failed to realize how genial was the idea behind it [Music] besides drag racing AMC realized most muscle car buyers were into road racing championships especially the legendary Trans Am Series so in the late 60s the company started sponsoring Mark Donahue a famous racer and his team also AMC presented the javelin SST it was a top-of-the-line model featuring more power a better handling package and exterior details the 360 and 390 V8 engines were the only choices both with a 325 horsepower rating also the SST models had hood scoops side pipes and a rear spoiler which was a big deal back in 1969 and 1970 one of the last Aussie muscle cars the Ford Falcon fgx was released in 2014 December by Ford Australia and the production for the same lasted until October 2016 depending on the model xr6 or xr6 Turbo the Falcon FG XXR 6 was fitted with either a 4.0 L Bar inline 6-cylinder engine 4.0 L Bar eoli inline 6-cylinder engine or a 4.0 L Bar turbo inline 6-cylinder engine and could generate anywhere between 261 to 360 horsepower as far as transmission goes you could either get a 6-speed 6 horsepower 21 automatic or a 6-speed 6 horsepower 26 transmission the Falcon FG XXR 6 was also fitted with a roll bar brake set as well as competition suspension and this model was also the very last of Ford's X Series the Trans Am was named for the popular sports car racing circuit and this version of the Pontiac Firebird was one of the highest performance packages of the car the first Trans Am was the result of delorean's desire to create a performance car that could compete with the new fbody Camaro of the time the benefits of the 1969 Pontiac Trans Am over the 1969 Camaro were found in the handling of this car most muscle cars weren't known for carving up corners or good lap times but this Pontiac muscle car was a joy to drive on any Canyon Run the 1977 Pontiac L man Canam is an often overlooked muscle car that came at the wrong time the malaise of the era after the first oil embargo was felt in heavy cars with very little power thankfully the L man's Can-Am had at least 200 100 horsepower to give drivers a few Thrills on the road finding one of these Pontiac muscle cars today is a rarity only 1,377 models were made the factory building this car stopped once the rear spoiler mold broke during the production process this was a fitting end to a car that many have forgotten ever existed even though they discontinued the famous AMC Rebel machine for 1971 but the package lived on in the Matador Coupe however there was no signature red white and blue color scheme instead the machine package included steel wheels with performance rubber a heavyduty suspension and dual exhaust then they installed a 360 or 401 V8 engine producing up to 330 horsepower technically you could order the machine package as a station wagon but there are no records anybody did that the Matador machine machine was a rare car because AMC only Built 50 of them in 1977 AMC decided to turn the gremlin into a muscle car installing a 304 V8 engine producing 120 horsepower the ridiculously low power resulted in a terrible performance but the gremlin GT was quite a looker with a fresh Graphics package sporty wheels and interior equipment realizing that the performance was painfully slow even for a wannabe muscle car AMC installed a 4.2 L inline 6 engine it didn't produce much more power but it produced more torque which was enough for some improvement however even this and heavy discounts by AMC dealers didn't help so the production was low at around 3,000 copies and they discontinued the GT option for the 1978 model year first making its appearance as a concept car the 1964 Pontiac Banshee promised to offer a smart and less than conventional package for buyers the 64 Banshee concept was initiated by John DeLorean as he wanted to develop an affordable two- seat Sports car to take on German Rivals internally referred to as the XP 833 the 64 Banshee was bought by one of GM's employees and later sold at a Barrett Jackson auction in 2006 for $214,500 under the hood the XP 833 was offered with a 3.8 L overhead cam engine which was capable of producing 165 horsepower while this may not sound a lot it was more than enough for the Compact and lightweight design the 64 bans she came with reverse the Buick Grand Sport 455 called a luxury Supercar by some makes a great show car because it mixes power with plenty of chrome and styling buckets seats a convertible option and a comfortable back seat made this car the best way to get luxury and performance from GM since Cadillac focused on luxury at the time the high-end horsepower of the 455 engine could be balanced with the GSX package upgrade for improved performance and handling and hopefully showroom appeal as well if you don't want us to continue making videos about muscle cars please comment number two if you ever want to see a sleeper muscle car the 1971 Pontiac gt37 is that car this Pontiac was the high performance version of the t37 a budget friendly car of the early 1970s the gt37 brought some qualities that reminded many of the GTO although the gt37 lacked some of the design features of the GTO Judge It produced plenty of power leaving some other cars in the dust this Pontiac muscle car included the gto's dual exhaust and the floor mounted three-speed transmission AMC is almost the definition of underrated with both amazing muscle cars and Curiosities like the AMC Pacer which to its credit starred in a movie just like the muscle cars the comedy Wayne's World the 1970 AMC rebel machine has also gotten some respected auction as meum Lot number S80 in 2017 priced $50,000 it was one of the 1,000 produced with red white and blue out of 2326 total legendary heurst performance research had a hand in creating the rebel machine which featured a 390 V8 with 340 horsepower the duster is both a partially evolved Valiant which car and driver said was ugly and cheap but also a pretty decent compact superar which could take on the chevel they blame the stylists who made the interior detailed but cheap instead of simple and solid and lowered the suspension so it handled and rode poorly nevertheless the duster seems to have its share of fans and with a 34 40 and 360 cubic inch engines especially it really earned its keep it also bore the names gold duster silver duster space duster and twister debuting in 1978 the AMC Spirit AMX was a true compact muscle car it had an optional three 04 V8 engine and rear wheeel drive and buyers could opt for a manual transmission also AMC designed it as the performance version of the spirit compact car for sale for Just 2 years the spirit AMX had some success because it was inexpensive yet cool looking the AMX package included a body kit special Livery and wide wheels unfortunately AMC decided to kill the model so the spirit AMX didn't returned for the 1980 model year when AMC discontinued the Javelin AMX they were left without a muscle car in their lineup so they quickly decided to introduce the Matador X AMC redesigned the Matador for 1974 featuring the signature coupon body style that was fairly aerodynamic soon the company presented the X package which buyers could get with a three 60 V8 or optional 401 V8 delivering 235 horsepower regardless of the dressup kit big V8 and all performance goodies The Matador X wasn't any faster than the javelin so AMC killed the option after only one year this is a domestic Market upgrade of the 4 cylinder Mark I which produces well over 250 horsepower because the Japanese turbo 4S were always tuned to higher output than the American versions because the Japanese exporter Crush many of their cars after four years so they didn't worry about longevity for their domestic line available in two and four-door the car is a quite capable rear wheel drive with limited slip differential and 5-speed manual transmission the Chevy chevel lagona was a casualty of the times as the exuberance of muscle car culture was tamed by economics and fuel economy the model only lasted from 7376 it found its way into NASCAR even though Chevy wasn't looking to race at the time MotorWeek noted the suspiciously aerodynamic shovel style nose and wondered if that was really an accident detoured into using styling to produce sales since it was hamstrung by new government mandated emissions equipment the lagona didn't last long The Marauder X100 combined the comfort and features of Lincoln Mercury with 360 enthusiastic horses it could do 0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds but at 4,500 lb how quickly could it Return To Zero the land yacht dilemma and after a few years of success in the early 1960s The Marauder yielded to the pony cars and the midsized crowd which packed more power into less the powerful Marauder had a similar appearance to full luxury Lincoln cars in its later years bringing to mind the 1950 song about the Hot Rod Lincoln three engine options were offered for the 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2 plus2 but the most impressive of these Pontiac muscle car engines was the Ho Tri power 421 which produced 376 horsepower many have reported this this engine producing as much as 500 horsepower when properly tuned for more speed and power the Catalina was a full-size car but it had more than enough power to Rocket down the strip at fast speeds for the time this Pontiac is considered one of the champions of the heavyweight division of muscle cars during the time the raw power gave this car incredible speed making it fun to drive only 5001 of these were produced so there hasn't been much chance for them to be appreciated they were part of the original Chrysler 300 Luxury Line but produced in 1970 in conjunction with Hurst performance the engine was a Chrysler 440 TNT V8 transmission a three-speed torque flight and they were all twodo models painted in a white and gold color scheme with a scoop and spoiler added the full-sized Chevy biscan was produced from 1958 to 1972 to the frustration of Street Racers some models were annoying sleepers which could beat anyone when the red light changed while looking like Granny's sedan the bis Gan with a big block 427 V8 offered 425 horsepower straight from the factory other versions had engines down to 230 cubic in so competitors had to guess what they were dealing with the money for the bisqui went into the performance the biscane was the least expensive full-size Chevy at the time MBO the forensic Nam was was a performance-based muscle car but was rather tiny in size the Chevy fenza Canam is nothing but the Vox Hall's Forenza being sold in South Africa it was first introduced in 1971 and the production for the same lasted till 1975 this rear wheeel drive came with a 4.9 L V8 engine and M 21 four-speed manual transmission and it could generate up to 290 horsepower the Forenza Can-Am was stupidly fast for its time it could go from 0 to 60 mph in under 5.5 seconds and came with a top speed of over 140 mph it came with sporty interiors and a three-spoke steering wheel in addition to this there were only 100 examples of the V8 Forenza Canam made for racing and six additional cars were made for local racing making it quite rare and you may have to Shell out quite a bit if you want to own this two years of production in 1964 and 1965 were all that the olds mobile jet star was afforded but it offered a lot in a full-sized package during that time it was basically a luxury Starfire scaled down on the luxury side for buyers who wanted performance it was available in bright colors such as yellow and red and hot engines including a 394 cubic in 345 horsepower offering in 1964 and a 421 cubic inch 376 horsepower Tri power option in 1965 the 2002 Pontiac Trans AMW S6 was a fitting farewell to one of the hottest and most sought-after Pontiac muscle cars in history the WS6 package dates back to the 1978 model that arrived after the popular Smokey and the Bandit movie that also put this car on the map this package added better performance to an already impressive car this final version of the Trans Am came with standard leather seats and removable roof panels making it one of the most popular and fun cars to drive this 2002 Trans Am is easy to find in the used car market which means you could enjoy the fun of this muscle car even today show stands for super high output but Ford has kept the styling fairly discreet in this family and Executive Car with something extra Under the Hood movie appearances include Men in Black 3 where it fit the dark suit top secret capabilities Motif nicely current models come with a 3.5 L twin turbo Ecoboost V6 and a performance package with sport mode re-calibrated steering and better braking and Cooling equ equipment is available in addition to the specific performance upgrades these are the muscle cars from AMC surprisingly some of these are still on the roads but you'll see most of at car shows in America which one do you like the best please leave your comments about the car you love see you in the next [Music] video the Dodge Dart line arrived Prem muscle era in 1960 in the mid-60s it stood out with buge eyed headlights and a push button transmission shifter by 1971 it was scaled down in size but Dodge saw it as a way to reach out to the growing stock performance Market it was one of the first vehicles to offer a cassette player also maybe the name and the cute little demon decal tarnished it somehow dodges three-pronged marketing strategy was one part style one part engine and another part weird names the demon rais protest from some swinger didn't do much better are you willing to comment number one to let us know that you like this video let's do it now the Vox Hall 58 vrx the vrx name plate was given to models that were performance-based it was manufactured and sold in Australia from 2007 to 2017 fitted with a 6.2 L LS 9 V8 engine the Vox Halli 8 vrx GTS could reach a top speed of an estimated 155 mph in the beginning it came with an LSA V8 engine and was later upgraded to a 6.2 L LS 99 V8 engine furthermore it was capable of generating 362 horsepower and the voxhall fe8 vxr tourer which is blistering fast can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds the Cyclone was designed to make a name for the Mercury division on the racing circuit both drag racing and later NASCAR and also attract style conscious buyers with plenty of chrome flashy wheel covers and bucket seats in some years even the engine got some Chrome it started with a 289 in 1964 and before production ended in 1972 buyers could select a powerful 429 cubic inch engine the cyclone GT pushed the style envelope even further than the standard model with trim both visually appealing like the fulllength console and functional like the scoop which could be used for Ram induction a capable lightweight sedan that was upgraded from a six-cylinder model to an optional 283 and later a 327 Chevrolet V8 from its parent company GM sharing no body parts but looking much like a first generation chevel from 4 years earlier this 1967 model is beautiful and appears to be opal's only large displacement model until the rebadged Holden and Pontiac model showed up in the late 1990s Wikipedia claims the two-speed power glide was the only transmission but the Diplomat B model got stick shift as an option in 1972 Torino GT Grand Torino what's in a name it was changed in 1972 for the third generation of this style Clint eastwoods film Grant Torino featured a later model of the Torino GT after the name and most notably the grill had changed along with performance downgrades due to emissions requirements the look was arguably better with the so-called fishmouth Grill and a more tailored body the Grand Torino also was featured in the big Labowski though not in as great condition as Clint Eastwood's version and the TV series starski and Hutch the opal Diplomat was in production from 1968 to 1977 released as a part of the KD models as opal refers to it the big three the opal Diplomat could be bought with either a 4.6 L or a 5.6 L Chevrolet f8 engine and was pair paired with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission with a top speed of an estimated 128 mph the 1965 opal Diplomat could generate 230 horsepower and could reach 60 mph in an estimated 8.6 seconds built by Carman the open Diplomat 58 cost an estimated DM 25,500 and only 347 units of the V8 Diplomat were ever made the Buick Wildcat is a Fastback styled car on a full-size platform it was an early attempt at what came to be called the personal luxury car in the spirit of the Ford Thunderbird the interior was plush with a center console and bucket seats in most models and when the Wildcat was introduced in 1962 it was clocked 0 to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds by Motor Trend Magazine marketing sold the 360 horsepower as a reason to buy full-sized Wildcat during the 60s but the trend towards midsized muscle cars pushed the Buick Wildcat to the side in the 1970s this is actually a more sedate version of a Toronto muscle car the Toronto came with several different engines as I4 I6 and V8 most were high output 4.3 L V8s although some were rumored to be 5.0 Holden engines the 5000 SLR series was the loud color look at me version of the car but this is the gentleman's racer version here unique to Europe and Australia the car did share some parts with a Korean GM make in the American Vega and later Cavalier there was even an a9x option that had four-wheel disc brakes and a competition suspension the name Grand Prix has been used on a variety of Pontiac models from 1962 until 2008 with seven generations produced it started in 1962 as a personal luxury car became available as a midsize a full size and a coupe over time until the the end of production in 2008 John DeLorean who later created the car featured in Back to the Future was a key Pontiac management figure behind the Grand Prix during later years of its life the Grand Prix had many Innovations both tried and Abandoned and shipped including new electronics features and a prototype steam-based engine this is a fairly rare car the Interceptor series ran as a total of four series almost all were coups that looked very similar to an Avante very few drop tops were made and the majority of interceptors got a Chrysler 360 e53 police interceptor engine at 235 horsepower this car got the soft top and got the RV grade 440 RB engine rated at 275 horsepower but with 350 lb feet of torque the engine could easily be upgraded to 350 horsepower with a cam Swap and 400 horsepower with earlier heads unlike Mopar products these cars got a premium suspension and [Music] interior the designation GTO was apparently Pontiac executive and later independent car manufacturer John delorean's idea borrowed from the Ferrari 250 GTO it stands for Grand Turismo homologado derived from the Italian for Grand Touring and homologation which is the process of approval in racing Ferrari enthusiasts raged about this barebones muscle car with no credentials taking on the name so not only did the name stick but Gearheads defiantly simplified GTO to Goat from there they said it burns gas oil and tires you get the picture and it does it was one of pontiac's fastest cars in the day a lightweight car with a 160 horsepower 2000cc I6 this car was a true muscle car having upgraded front disc brakes and a trailing arm rear suspension with drum brakes the two extra cylinders added 25% more power over the standard Skyline the engine peaked at 7,000 revolutions per minute and a 5speed was the only transmission this was a tuner's dream 50 years ago this one has a roll cage and an upgraded engine 160 horsepower isn't a lot but keep in mind this car weigh 200 lb more than a Honda CRX SI which only had 130 horsepower the Ford Falcon Nash Rambler Chevrolet Corvair and Plymouth Valiant competed as compact cars all introduced around the year 1960 the 1958 song Beep Beep by The Playmates made fun of the aspirations of these compacts telling about a Nash Rambler driver who was keeping Pace with a Cadillac no matter how fast the caddy drove Ford used characters from Charles Schultz's peanuts to advertise this small car it sold well and was in production from 1960 to 1970 it was widely modified and converted by hot roders and drag Racers and still is a popular project car this is a special tuner version of the markx that comes with a factory supercharger on the three 5 L V6 putting out 355 horsepower available in rear wheeel drive and and all-wheel drive with all the best equipment this thing has a serious following upgraded cross drilled brakes and suspension with a premium interior the car shares Parts with a Camry but has different styling similar to a Corolla GTS six-speed Auto and six-speed manual transmissions are available depending on the year before ending production in 2019 there were almost 7 million Mark 2 and markx cars built in 50 years as seen in NASCAR and also the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun and many other 1970s movies and TV shows the AMC Matador was produced as a midsize car and Coupe from 1971 to 73 and full-size sedan and wagon versions were available from 1974 to 78 it competed in the personal luxury car market but was also a popular police car which outperformed many others for fans of the AMC rebel machine matadors could be ordered including four-door sedans and wagons with a go machine option which brought it up to speed so to speak the option added the works from brakes to tires and either a 360 V8 or the 4001 launched to Mark the 20th year of production Pontiac launched the 1989 Pontiac Turbo Tans M 20th anniversary edition for those looking for Pure Performance and strong Dynamics unlike most other special edition anniversary models Pontiac offered offered multiple upgrades and improvements which made the 89 turbo TransAm faster than most other performance cars of the same year including the Corvette with a claimed 0 to 60 MPH time of 6.3 seconds the 1989 ponac Turbo Trans Am was a desirable muscle car not only because it was fast but also as it offered an impressive package for the hardcore driving enthusiasts under the hood it was offered with the same turbo 3.8 8 L 56 engine which powered the Buick GNX this engine delivers a peak power output of 245 Hors power while the maximum torque produced stands at 340 lb [Music] feet from the front it looks vaguely like an old early '70s doson overall more like a period ala Romeo but the interior is that of a British touring car and under the hood 440 cubic in of chryler muscle the Interceptor is a relative of the lotus powered Jensen Healey sports car also underrated in its class interceptors were first built in the 1950s then a new version appeared in the 60s and70s with occasional revivals of the company and the car continuing until the present C Jensen International Auto Automotive Jensen was also involved in the manufacturing of several other companies cars including the Volvo P 1,800 and the Sunbeam Tiger a true high performance car with a mid-engine mounted manual transmission the car is very lightweight and started out with the high revving 1.6 L soc4 but soon got a bump to a 2.8 L V6 and eventually a two 8 L V6 turbo up to almost 185 horsepower the car was second in a series of road racing and rally series competition cars used for European racing despite being from the early 198 there were some versions fitted with antiock brakes both a for speed and 5-speed manual transmission came [Music] available first launched on the market in 1971 the Pontiac Grandville was launched for those looking for a massive muscle car with a roomy cabin and comfortable seating while it may not boast fast performance figures the 75 Grandville offers tons of character and a strong personality what makes it even more special is the fact that 1975 was the last production year for the Pontiac Grandville under the hood The 1975 Pontiac Grandville was offered with a 400 cubic inch V8 engine that delivers a peak power output of 185 horsepower and 315 lb feet of Maximum torque the power is channeled to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic gearbox option with a restricted top speed of 114 mph the claimed 0 to 60 MPH time stands at 12.5 [Music] seconds not a racer but a cruiser and sports Ute this inline six powerered mini muscle truck made around 175 horsepower and a light unibody truck kind of like a Subaru Brat with 3x the power of this thing was still plenty fast the six-cylinder came in two sizes and was a much higher state of tune than the American slant 6 the vehicle was also available in a panel van configuration the police interceptor sedan version came with a 318 [Music] V8 the the 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix Arrow was not one of the best looking muscle cars launched in the American Market back then and failed to attract enough buyers because of its average performance and controversial exterior design the car however does offer impressive Dynamics and despite failing to post impressive performance figures keeps driving enthusiasts happy and satisfied under the hood it was offered with a 305 V8 motor which was capable of delivering 15 50 horsepower and 240 lb feet of Maximum torque this engine came mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox and was also seen in a number of other Pontiac cars despite average performance figures the 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix AOK coup is liked by many for its direct and non-nonsense Driving [Laughter] Experience GM M's oldest division finally went out of business in 2017 it did build some fine muscle cars that were exported to Asia and shared manufacturing with Opel voxhall and later even Pontiac here we have one of the last panel wagons but unlike the ones of the 50s this one wasn't slow it came with a 5.0 L V8 engine making 235 horsepower if you remember Mad Max it was the wife's Jess Rock and tansky car in the movie this Chrysler build was primarily sold in Australia and is easily one of the most iconic muscle cars you can find similar to the rest of the cars on the list so far there were only 149 units of the Valiant Charger RT made it came with a 4.3 L straight 6 engine coupled with triple Weber carburetors and was capable of generating 302 horsepower the Chrysler Valiant char charger RTE 49 needed only 6.1 seconds to reach 60 MPH from a standstill and 14.1 seconds to go from zero to a/4 mile although this was sold in Australia the exterior was similar to that of the US Chrysler body platform the only difference was that it came with a wider rear axle as well as broader fenders and was sold for anywhere between $3,395 Australian dollar to$ 3,975 five Australian dollars this was really a Holden Commodore SSV with the LS6 3 l V8 the British needed to feel they built a car worth having so they named it a Vox Hall but to be honest the only thing made in Britain was the value added tax this was a wicked fast car much like an improved LS6 powered El Camino but it could handle and break because the the parts were prohibitively expensive to build the sedan series was built to run with a bmwm series car which is part of what forced Holden out of business the Chevy opala SS was manufactured and sold in South America this mean looking car was a remnant of classic muscle cars and was first released in 1969 and production for the opala SS lasted until 19 92 during its Heyday the sport trim of the opala SS was also one of the fastest cars in Brazil it boasted a 0 to 60 MPH time of an estimated 11 seconds and could reach a top speed of 112.5 mph it came with a number of engine options but the best out of the bunch was the 3.8 L straight 6 engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission low price high power was the major selling point of the Dodge Coronet superb and its sibling the Plymouth Road Runner this is the original version of the superb based on the Coronet and available from 1968 through 1971 Chrysler has reused the name on various models mostly Chargers up until 2013 in the 1968 to 71 version buyers could get an affordable car with a 383 Magnum 426 Hemi or 446 pack engine and enjoy it as is or get to work modifying it [Music] this car is a vivid reminder that auto manufacturers have over the years put impressive performance into sleepy station wagon bodies the Magnum SRT8 doesn't hide its performance Heritage though it's offered in both subdued gray or black and bright color schemes including traditional gim a ticket red which with a 425 horsepower 6.1 L engine under the hood it can easily earn in the parking lot of the supermarket whoever is driving gets to say yeah it's got a hem to all those generic SUV and crossover drivers I'm sure you've picked a favorite car for yourself please let us
