10 THINGS I DON'T RECOMMEND FOR TRAVEL & WHAT TO DO OR USE INSTEAD!

hey thickies welcome back to thick girls guide your official guide for all things fashion lifestyle and traveling and in today's video I'm going to be sharing with you the 10 things that I do not recommend for traveling and why so without further Ado let's jump right into the video before we do don't forget to hit that subscribe button and join the thick girl gang and give this video a thumbs up let's get into [Music] [Music] [Music] it so I have brought you several I don't know if it's several but quite a few videos on stuff that I love to have when I travel again I don't travel with everything that I recommend in those videos all at once there's definitely like certain trips I'll use things and you know whatnot so um I have a whole big travel bin of stuff that I kind of pick through with um each individual trip and these are kind of the things that some of them I have tried and I don't like them um and I didn't include them in any of those videos um these are also things that a couple that I haven't tried and I'll tell you why that I think it's a little bit gimmicky or just ridiculous so there are things that just across the board that I just don't recommend for traveling let's dive in to number one now this one might be a bit controversial but I never travel with a neck pillow um and I don't recommend it so the reason being is they are so bulky and it's just one more thing to carry and unless they're like these the kind of inflatable one it doesn't you can't smush it down to make it smaller and you're only going to use it on your flight there and your flight back and nowhere else in your trip are you going to use that thing so I have never even bought one I've never even attempted it because I know I will throw it in the trash because I'll get sick of carrying it and I know so many people love love love neck pillows um so if it if it works for you and you like it continue on for me personally I won't use it I know I won't I'll get irritated with it that I have to carry it around everywhere so something I would use besides a neck pillow is if you dress in layers and you have like a hoodie or an overpiece you can always kind of wad that up or fold it up and use it kind of as a pillow as well I think that's a lot more functional because it's you can actually wear that piece later on your trip and it's not something just taking up space and being super bulky and annoying the next thing is I have seen it's kind of like a pillow SL blanket combo that a lot of influ influencers recommend and the thing is with this pillow is when you take the blanket out it's no longer a pillow so it's kind of one or the other but also I don't recommend bringing a blanket on board when you are traveling again it's bulky maybe if you have a kid and they travel it's kind of like their safety item then that's another thing but for a grown adult I don't think you need a blanket the airplanes have kind of thin blankets if needed but what I would recommend instead is to dress in layers so if it is a little chilly on the airplane or if you're traveling in a in the winter season or something like that that you can take on and off layers and it's again things you can then wear on your actual trip that you were going to bring anyway and you don't have to deal with lugging this blanket around again I just think this is kind of one of the little bit ridiculous items for me personally that I would never ever purchase and never bring when I'm traveling the next thing that I do not recommend are these rubber luggage wheel covers and so when I first saw these I was super super excited about them because I am going to be traveling to Italy later this year and in Europe there's a lot of cobblestone streets that are very rough on your luggage wheels and so I thought oh this is a great way to protect the wheels with those cobblestone streets when you're kind of dragging your luggage to your hotel and then I put them on my carry on and the wheels won't roll so there's something it's it's like it takes there's not enough room in between um the part where the wheel kind of connects and where it allows it to roll and the rubber stops it from moving so it's just like it's so counterproductive they are awful to be honest I have not been able to get them to work on any piece of luggage which is super frustrating cuz I thought they were a great concept again but when I tried them they were awful so I ended up sending those back zero out of 10 do not recommend just buy a quality piece of luggage or hope your luggage wheels don't break if you're going to be very rough on them the next thing that I would never travel with is this portable travel foot rest so you're supposed to like hook this thing I think around the tray table and then it it's supposed to allow you to put your feet up kind of I don't know this thing just I again I have not tried it and I have seen several videos where it's recommended and I just think it's ridiculous for most flights if you're if you're on a a shorter flight like you know a couple hours maybe up to four or 5 hours this is not even necessary the only thing that this could even potentially be necessary for would be a very long flight even then I think it's just too much work what are you carrying this thing around for like I don't think I've never ever ever seen anyone actually use this and so it's just one of those kind of gimmicky things I feel again if you've tried it and you love it comment down below but I think it's a little ridiculous personally and again never seen anybody use this thing I don't think it would be useful or warrant you know packing it and taking up that extra room the next thing that I don't recommend is probably going to be also controversial which is packing cubes so just regular standard packing cubes I when I get to my destination I unpack my whole suitcase anyway so I don't need it to be organized in there any particular way really and I think they're a bit like useless to be honest to me they're taking up a little bit of extra room why are you packing and then packing again into the suitcase to me it just logically doesn't make sense some people people love them I don't what I do use instead though and it's not so much for organization but it's for compression so compression packing cubes are a different story because those serve an actual purpose to me they are kind of condensing and compressing the clothing and getting the air out of it so that you can have more room in your luggage um and kind of fit more in there you don't need one of those you know those like vacuum dryer bag things like you don't have to hassle with all that stuff cuz I'm not going to do that either either but compression packing cubes again it's just like it's the initial zipper and then you zip it down even more where it just compresses it so that's what I would use instead and that's what I recommend in instead of um traditional packing cubes which I personally think are just a waste but again to each their own so if you love them don't come for me it's just my opinion the next thing that I do not recommend packing is a ton of shoes so shoes are the big biggest and um bulkiest items that you'll probably pack especially if you have like a bunch of tennis shoes and stuff that will take up your luggage space very quickly so I definitely recommend to keep it down to a minimum of three pairs of shoes you really don't need more than that when you think about it one of which you will wear on the plane wear your bulkiest pair on the plane and then the smaller of the two um or smaller of the three in into the either check bag or carryon the next thing that I do not recommend for travel is any kind of like duffel bag or shoulder bag anything like that so whether you're doing carryon only or you're using one of these as a personal item I have been there done that and got the t-shirt and it kills your shoulder because those things are heavier than they look plus you're going to be carrying it for quite a long time you're going to have to walk a long ways with it you know the strap if you wear it on one shoulder it's you know causing pressure to that shoulder digging into your shoulder and then if you wear it crossbody it's still doing the same thing so wearing it cross body makes it a little bit better and easier but if you're just trying to throw it over one shoulder it's slipping off all the time it's just awful I recommend instead using a backpack again it allows you to be handsfree the weight is distributed on both shoulders it's a heck of a lot more comfortable and just easier in general so that's what I have found um to use instead of those kind of shoulder bags or duffel bags if you're using a like a duffel bag as a full-on carryon I would recommend to get one with wheels they do sell it where it's kind of got like one of those like little luggage handles and it's got wheels on one side of it so you tilt it and go that would be a lot easier to deal with than trying to carry this huge duffel bag bag full of stuff or just get a carry-on bag um that works is also on Wheels thank me later because again carrying that stuff through the airport is awful the next thing that I will never travel with is my own towel I'm not sure why people bring their own towels on most vacations because if okay if you're going on a cruise they have towels that they will let you take off of the ship they will charge you if you don't bring it back but again they will provide you with a towel so there's no need for you to bring your own if you're at like a hotel or something like that again they have towels so if you have like if you're going to the pool or something you could just take one of those towels so I don't really understand why people want to bring their own towels so comment down below maybe there's something I'm not thinking of but I think it's again a waste of space um to bring the towel when there's so many readily available the only time I would obviously recommend that is if you're not going to be staying at a hotel or on a cruise or something and you're maybe like driving down to the coast or something like that obviously you're going to need your own towel but for most kind of circumstances if you've got a hotel or a cruise there's no need so I don't recommend to bring one the next thing that I don't recommend is this 4in one travel dispenser bottle so again kind of similar to the luggage wheel covers like this is good in theory because it has four separate little bottles in it and then you just kind of move the nozzle to press down on and it'll pump whatever is in that little section out for you um I did buy these a couple years ago and tried them out and they were terrible first of all they're very like hard to hold and pump at the same time like it's like almost a two-hander second of all when it does pump out it's a tiny tiny little drop and I'm like I would be here for 10 hours trying to pump enough shampoo into my hand or enough body wash into my hand to do everything so it was just completely unrealistic um so they definitely like they need to work on this thing again good concept but the execution was terrible it not recommended at all instead I would just recommend just the kind of the standard kind of silicone reusable um squeeze bottles where you can control the amount that you want and um or I also have featured these little um these little tiny vacuum pump uh bottles for kind of like little stuff like maybe like your your face moisturizer makeup remover stuff like that where you can you don't have to bring the whole big bottle but you can fill this little thing up um those work great as well and the 10th and final thing that I do not recommend for travel I see a lot of in influencers saying that they'll use like eye patches and face masks on a plane and I'm just like but do you but do you cuz I've never seen somebody bust out some eyp patches and face masks on a plane in front of everyone first of all those things look ridiculous when you're doing it at home like you'll turn around and scare someone if you've got one of those crazy face masks on but I know not using it on a plane okay like and if you are you're like one in a million maybe to use at your destination if you have like you know puffy eyes or something like that I could see bringing it for that but they're saying they use it on a plane and I'm not going to use that on a plane and I know 99% of you are not going to use that on a plane now the good thing about this is if you do feel like you're going to use it at some point in your trip they are very thin and so it's not going to take up a ton of room it's not the end of the world if you want to try it when you're there but again using it on a plane for inlight I don't believe you okay no but anyway I think it's me personally I'm not even going to do that on my trip to be honest um but also I don't really have an issue with kind of puffy eyes or anything like that either so if you do then go ahead and bring them but again you're probably not going to be using using it on the flight either like these other people claim so those are my 10 things that I do not recommend while traveling comment down below what else you don't recommend to use when traveling or bring when traveling soz I know there's probably got to be more than 10 but these are just kind of the ones that I feel most passionately about I guess to not use and thank you guys
